Cubism in Interior Design
Next to many round and friendly interior design we also noticed some cubist inspired decor. Not that much, but we feel it could well be the next trend. It almost has to be, because all the ‘Barbapapa’ furniture design you can think of has already been made, for a couple of seasons, by all brands at this point.
Carpet / Moroso
Mural / Lammhults. The bright pastel color-scheme of this interior didn’t suit the other images so we made it in black and white.
Motorcycle / De Castelli
Mirror/ ClassiCon
These four are the most evident examples of design, leaning towards Cubist shapes: Carpet from Moroso/ Mural by Siri Carlén for Lammhults / Motorcycle Samotracia Mario Trimarchi for De Castelli / Mirror from ClassiCon.

Edible architecture - Mario Trimarchi has designed a series of geometric silicone food moulds for Italian design house Alessi that create miniature pieces of food architecture. I really appreciate the way that designer combines food with architecture, the geometric shapes are fantastic!

A Ferragamo scarf featuring a fabric made from squeezed orange residue - Orange Fiber.
A press release issued by the innovative Italian company set up by two young entrepreneurs from Catania, Sicily, Adriana Santanocito and Enrica Arena, explained how every year the squeezed orange industry generates, in Italy alone, more than 700,000 tonnes of waste, whose elimination is both highly costly and impactful on the environment.
The Ferragamo Orange Fiber Collection consists of shirts, dresses, trousers and scarves featuring printed motifs designed by architect Mario Trimarchi and inspired by the Mediterranean landscape. The collection will be launched on 22nd April to coincide with World Earth Day, and will be available at selected Ferragamo stores.

By Jean Marie Carey
Mario Mafai, who with his wife Antonietta Raphaël was one of the central figures of a group of artists called the Scuola di Via Cavour, was born 12 February 1902 in Rome, where he lived and worked for much of his life until his death there in 1965.
From 1922 until 1925 he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome. There he met the sculptor Raphaël, who introduced him to the work of the Ecole de Paris. By 1927 the painter Scipione and the sculptor Marino Mazzacurati gathered regularly in Mafai’s studio. During this period Mafai painted views of the River Tiber, self-portraits, and still-lifes.
Mafai stressed the tonal qualities in his paintings. This concentration on the subtle gradation of values endowed the commonplace objects of his still-lifes with a heightened, magical reality. After 1935 he developed veiled anti-Fascist themes in the Demolition series, exhibited at the Galleria della Cometa in Rome in 1937. In 1939 Mafai and Raphaël fled to Genoa, though later that year he was drafted. Mafai returned to Rome in 1943 and continued working on his principal themes, also producing some abstract works during the 1950s.
The Centro Studio Mafai Raphaël holds archives of the artists’ live and works. Mafai’s paintings are also in the permanent collection of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna of Roma Capitale.

De Castelli – SAMOTRACIA Copper Shell Motorcycle De Castelli – SAMOTRACIA Copper Shell Motorcycle
De Castelli – SAMOTRACIA Copper Shell Motorcycle De Castelli – SAMOTRACIA Copper Shell Motorcycle
Mario Trimarchi has designed the first motorcycle with copper bodywork for De Castelli. Putting typical aerodynamic curves aside, the fairing (shell) that conceals the inner engineering is like a visual interpretation of speed.
Over time, with the natural oxidation of the copper, the object is aligned with the pace of the city, experienced in an eternally contemporary condition.
