Anyways, a concept that is very near and dear to my heart is Arthur actually going back to Marie’s to visit and she ropes him into playing board games.

Because old people fucking love board games.

And John would get so into it. Concerningly into it? Competitive as hell. He’d start out all “This is a waste of time! We should be out looking for the Order, not sitting here playing games!” and then one hour in he’s all “Yes! Yes!! We have two railroads!! She owes us double!!”

Plus the shenanigans of Arthur trying to teach John how to play while he literally can’t speak to him out loud? Hilarious.

Harlan if you’re reading this, please, imagine a big monopoly game with the S4 characters, it would be so funny.

This is a collection of 22 LGBTQ+ stories published between 1841-1923, covering a wide span of authors, genres, and literary traditions. Some stories are coded and euphemistic, often framing their central relationships as friendships or familial bonds. Others are surprisingly brazen and bold for their time, courting controversy for their refusal to obscure the sexuality of their characters. Some tales come from canonical, widely known authors (Whitman, Chopin, Wilde, Cather), while others emerge from obscurer and less recognized writers (Thanet, Cooke, Bunner). Some are tragic and self- critical, clearly the byproducts of when they were written. Others are lightly comedic or triumphant, bucking the conventions of the time. Throughout each story, however, persists a desire to represent the seemingly unrepresentable, finding expression for the “love that dare not speak its name.” — Summary by ChuckW

i finally watched headless: a sleepy hollow story and oh. my. god.

every line of dialogue, every shot, every costume, every tiny detail in the background of every scene, all of it was captivating.

my knowledge of the legend of sleepy hollow is extremely limited. when i was around five or six i watched the first fifteen minutes of the disney cartoon, before my grandmother shut it off saying it was "too scary" (although i disagreed. i was six, i wasn't gonna win) and that was the end of that.

but i don't need to be the #1 washington irving fan to know that shipwrecked did it right. it was comedic, it was spooky, it was heart-warming and heart-wrenching and i loved it.

i know of almost everyone in the cast from different projects, but they blend so beautifully here you forget you're watching a show (even with jon cozart breaking the fourth wall to beautifully sing at you)

so anyway if you haven't seen it yet, i highly suggest setting aside two and a half hours to watch this masterpiece (and all other shipwrecked masterpieces) because you will want to press play again right after.

something tastyyyyyy about marty and rust in ep4 where marty's losing the grip on his patriarchal status as a husband/father/macho, so when rust comes in like "hey fuck your feelings we have a job to do, also here's my gruesome undercover backstory" he's acting as kind of a masculinity role model for marty: someone who's done all this novel manly stuff like Killing People and Wearing Cool Jacket herding marty back to "being a real man" (which marty conceptualises as enduring the horrors for the greater good and being soo brave about it)

EXCEPT to rust, and to the viewer who's heard rust tell that same backstory in 2012, his time undercover was not about heroism or tough yet necessary choices but about powerlessness and humiliation and being given no choice. it was an experience he compares to prostitution specifically, with his body physically penetrated by bullets and substances (and possibly tattoo needles) and every hierarchy, both the gangs and the police, seeing him as less than human (prey or a tool respectively). the thing that in ep4 makes marty feel low-key envious of rust's manhood is the part of rust's life where he had to assume a symbolically feminine role
