“Merci,” I shut the door behind me, grateful for the warmth of the fire crackling in her living room’s grate. She didn’t bustle as I had expected, but moved with a cool grace that was almost predatory.

Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness - Derelict Apartment Block / Industrial Rooftops / Margot Carvier's Apartment:
“Here’s a bunch of areas in the game. There’s a LOT of places you can go in this game, so making a post for everyone, may not be the best idea. First section is inside an apartment. Lara is stuck in an apartment, so she needs to find a way to get out. If you go down the stairs, the police will arrest you, but if you go up the stairs, then you may find a way out. It’s a really short but fun section.
Then, we have the Industrial Rooftops. This is an area that can take you less than a minute, or many minutes, depending on the path you choose to go. You need to be fast, tho, because an helicopter is chasing you and trying to kill you. There’s a lot of platforming involved, so you better start to get used to Lara’s moves...because she’s going to be your biggest issue. Lara’s platforming skills are...flawed.
Lastly, the game introduced to us something new: dialogues. Tecnically, this is nothing new. We’ve have dialogues in the previous games, but in form of a cutscene. However, in this game, you can choose what Lara needs to say. In some dialogues, is kind of irrelevant what you say, but in this situation? Honestly? It’s sort of irrelevant what you pick. Let me explain: so Lara meets Margot Carvier. Carvier is someone who was going to help Lara’s friend, aka Von Croy. Unfortunately, he died and Lara is wanted for his murder. Carvier has Von Croy’s notebook, and Lara needs it. So, when talking to Carvier, you have 2 options: option A: you are nice to her, so that she can give you the notebook right away. option B: you are rude & sassy towards her, so Carvier locks herself in the room and call the police on you. This means she didn’t gave you the notebook, however...you can still get it by going to Carvier’s kitchen, and get the notebook there. Afterwards, you need to leave the apartment, before the police shows up and arrests you.
Honestly, this are some awesome locations. I love the platforming in the first section, love to explore the industrial rooftops, and the dialogues in this game are so memorable and quotable...”I strongly suggest you to give it to me NOW”.
PS: the gameplay used for this gifset is not mine. The original video comes from the user: BadAssGamez, on Youtube.

The prison wasn’t a modern one.
Judging by it’s architecture it was originally built in the late 1800′s but had been altered with a new wing which greatly expanded it. Though calling it new was a stretch as the expansion work had been done sometime between the 1920′s and 30′s.. But it served it’s purpose and seemingly it was enough to justify keeping it in active use.
Thankfully the guards were as rotten as the place itself. The men spending their break smoking outside didn’t think too long before accepting the money to turn a blind eye for the duration of her visit. Croft was lucky that they hadn’t heard about the events of the last night. Wanted for murder.. It was still difficult to believe.
Lara found her way to the solitary where the woman she came to find was held. “Franky Victoria” That name was in Werner Von Croy’s notebook under the list of useful contacts. The notebook? She got it from now dead Margot Carvier, a archeologist colleague of Werner, who was reported dead soon after Lara’s visit to her apartment.
The Monstrum murders.. A serial killer was on a loose and now she was the suspect on the run. She wasn’t sure what to make of it. First she met with Werner. They argued, they fought and then it was a blur. All Lara knew when she came back to it was that her old mentor, Werner, was shot with his own gun which he used to threaten her with just moments earlier and that her hands were covered in his blood.. And when the police arrived she ran.
If they hadn’t come so quickly maybe there would have been a chance to learn what had happened but instead she ran to avoid being taken in for a murder she didn’t commit.. At least Croft believed it to be so. Even still the doubt gnawed in the back of her mind. She didn’t know for sure. What made her worry even more was the fact that Margot Carvier was found dead soon after she had picked up the notebook from her. Twice it was a coincidence but thrice? Well, if Franky would end up dead after her visit Lara would be more than terrified of the possibility that she had done these horrible acts herself and there hadn’t been anyone else as she now wished to believe.
“You knew Werner?” There wasn’t much time so she cut to the chase without even introducing herself. “He has been murdered.” Lara stared at the woman trapped in a cramped cell. The only light coming in was through the barred window but even that luxury was given after she had slid the hatch to the side in order see inside the small room.
“Your name was in his notebook, so you must know something. What he did, what he was working on.. For who? That kind of thing. I need to know.”

AOD has the best plot in series? Please... Your emotions are blinding you. For example why does Lara start searching for Bouchard? No one ever mentioned him until Lara suddenly starts searching for him. She shoulda searched for Eckhardt instead as he was Von Croy's employer and how does Lara and Karel know each other and where does he suddenly go after offering Lara to help him. Murti Schofield is not such good writer after all. Game is like a swiss cheese SO MANY PLOT HOLES
Geeez, have you even tried before sending this?
Lara starts searching for Bouchard because his name is written in Werner’s notebook - Louis Bouchard. Useful contact - purchased handgun. Discretion assured -, which she gets in Margot Carvier’s apartment and which is a main item in the game. That is not a plothole, that is just you not paying attention to the game you’re playing.
Lara does know Karel in the original script, they collaborate mutually before she gets to know who he is. This is a real plothole that couldn’t be totally implemented into the final version of the game, but again, due to Eidos pressing schedule and so many things they were cut out. I’ve read the whole game version and which was Karel’s role, so I’ve been knowing this for years.
What I find funny is that you’re here like testing me. Darling, I know TRAOD better than you apparently. You won’t catch me in fault. I know better every plothole of this game.
“Murti Schofield is not such a good writer?” Are you serious? Do you really think he wrote the story as you watch it in-game? His script was cut off, darling. For your information.
Tumblr media
He has written the most deep and elaborated storyline ever done for a TR - you just have to read, have you even tried? Do you realize he has nothing to do with the fact that so many scenes and dialogues were cut oft out of the game? He did his job, and he did it well. Again it was Eidos’ schedule who forced to take out so many content and he had no part in it. He already had delivered his piece of work - even twice as requested, because he loves to write. That sad task of cutting content fell in Adrian Smith’s shoulders, if I recall correctly. Murti Schofield is the storywriter, and there is not a single plothole in his work - just different alternative versions which he kept as a memory.
I suggest you to read more about TRAOD, because you’re clueless. I’ve been reading unreleased documents, developer’s interviews, game scripts and more to fill plotholes. Not my fault you don’t bother to do your research before coming to bother me.
Damn, you didn’t even bother in opening Werner’s notebook. I don’t think you’re the one to give me lessons about TRAOD plot. No offense.

Day 25: Have you read the official AoD comic? If so, what are your thoughts about it?
I am not a fan of comics, I must say, though I certainly do not belittle the effort one puts into creating it. It is an art, and admirrable for sure. The drawings are fascinating and I bow to people who have such talent. However, being a bookworm, I prefer words over pictures.
So yes, I’ve read it but if it wasn’t for this question, I would not have had any intention to read the comic, probably.
The primary focus of comics is the pictural representation, the plot itself goes into the background (at least that is my impression from what I’ve seen in comics when skimming through them). When reading a story, I need time to symphatize with characters, to fall in love with them, to get to know them. When I read the AoD comics - EDITION 32 (08/2003), EDITION 33 (09/2003), EDITION 34 (10/2003) - I did not grow any attachment towards the characters despite I normally love them to bits.
Not even to Lara. Not even to Kurtis And we all know how crazy I am about them.
Moreover the wannabe plot is … I dunno what words should I use to aptly describe it.
It is confusing, everything happens so quickly, for me the scenes barely relate to one another. One minute Lara contemplates over her life, suddenly she fights and runs away on a camel; then she is contacted by Werner and story somehow developes. But it is a total mess, Werner wants to kill Lara because he is granted immortality by Eckhardt if he does so. Kurtis appears and he is weird. Margot Carvier develops murderous intentions and attacks Lara. Kurtis is impaled but walks away like nothing happened. The fights with Eckhardt, or whoever Lara and Kurtis fight there, are totally out of another world. I had no idea what was happening, I barely noticed there was an actual fight (and for what it was, do not ask me) when suddenly the plot ended..
Tumblr media
Probably the most horrible part is the depiction of Lara and Kurtis. Kurtis is the worst. He is so irresistible in the game, not only because of his looks but his behaviour and attitude. The comics do not show ANY of his charisma. What else….the real Kurtis may have been driven by his own goal at first but as the plot of AoD develops further, he grows some attachment towards Lara and he becomes less selfish. In game, there is an immense, gripping and sparkling tention and sexual attraction going between those two. In the comics? Everything what makes these two so loveable together is gone. Kurtis calling Lara SISTER totally kills the mood, it kills everything what was hot and exciting between them. He does not show any liking in her. Lara seems to have more interest in some pilot guy who apparently loves her. Though she says she doesn’t love him, she calls him love, promises him dinner in Paris…. Like okay, that’s fine, if they need to give Lara a boyfriend and different from Kurt, I am fine with it (if it stays with the comics). But why on Earth then Lara and Kurtis kiss at the end?!!!! Just to give a fanservice to Lartis fans? If it was a proof that Lara and Kurtis really were meant to be more then partners in crime, then it was a VERY BAD ONE. There is no spark between them, whatsoever, and voilà suddenly they are so sad their paths are going apart so they have an urge to exchange saliva. And I won’t even mention that clichéd, embarassing and typical Hollywood moment aka ‘I need to give her mouth-to-mouth breathing because she is dying’. Or the unnecessary stripping of Lara…
Tumblr media
I am sure there are some enjoyable and very good comics out there but these AoD ones surely did not convince me to get interested in this kind of art.
I will wait for @hydraballista to become the renowned and worldwide respected artist one day (because she deserves it) and that will be the time I’ll be reading comics. Like look at THIS!!!  She did a comic version of one scene from @positivelyamazonian amazing AoD sequel The Golden Seal (which needs to get recognized by some publisher, I need it in a book version, as it is mindblowing). THAT IS A COMIC I WOULD CERTAINLY READ: BASED ON TOTALLY KICKASS AND MAGICAL PLOT AND THE DRAWINGS BEING FROM HEAVEN. These two girls need to get famous… immediately, now, this instance.

Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness:
Genre: Action & Adventure;
Console: PC;
Year: 2003;
Story: "Angel of Darkness follows on from events in Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation and Tomb Raider Chronicles, where Lara Croft was presumed dead. An unspecified time later, Lara arrives in Paris at the request of her former mentor, Werner Von Croy, who mentions that he has been tracking medieval icons known as the Obscura Paintings by a man named Echkardt. The city, and Von Croy, are gripped with fear over a serial killer the press have dubbed the "Monstrum". The Monstrum steals body parts and leaves distinctive signs made with the victim’s blood in its wake. During a confrontation with Von Croy at his apartment, a flurry of activity occurs and Lara is knocked unconscious. When she wakes, she discovers Von Croy dead, apparently having been murdered by the Monstrum, and Lara becomes the prime suspect. Fleeing the crime scene with police in pursuit, Lara tracks down Von Croy's friend Margot Carvier, who agrees to give Lara Von Croy's old notebook, which he had left with her for safekeeping. Carvier reveals to Lara how Von Croy had been contracted by Eckhardt to track the Obscura Paintings while adding details on how he had been fearful doing the job. The next day, it is revealed Carvier has also been murdered by the Monstrum." (Info from the wiki).
Gameplay: let's talk about the most underrated Tomb Raider game ever. This is Core Design's last Tomb Raider game, so they really tried to end the series with a bang...which didn't work for them... Lara plays similary to before, but she brought many new things for this game. We can still jump, crouch, sprint (not always), use weapons and all, but we can also crawl, climb nearly everthing, and for the first time, we can fight! (even tho is pointless to beat anyone with your punches and kicks). Sadly, the iconic duo guns didn't returned. One of the annoying new things about this game, is the fact that Lara needs strenght to do a lot of stuff. If she wants to push blocks, open doors, and some other stuff, she needs to "feel" stronger. The same for sprint. Also, you can interact with people, for the first time. You need to chat with some people, in order to find information. Last thing to be mentioned is the fact that you don't play as Lara Croft in the inteir game. There's a section of the game that you play as a new character, Kurtis. Not a fan of his gameplay. He plays similary as Lara, but he's a bit more stiff and annoying to control.
Graphics: this is a very incomplete game, in many aspects. Compared to the previous games, this looks pretty nice. Lara looks a lot like the Lara from the trilogy, which I aprove. However, some of the areas of the game are very glitchy and incomplete, due to lack of time to complete the game. Sadly, Core Design had to make the game and release it at a specific date, so they had to do a lot of cuts.
Soundtrack: it's really good. Such gorgeous music in this game. Of course, the best track is the one at Le Serpent Rouge. It's so much fun and dancy.
Final Thoughts: this game is very flawed, but I love it so much. It's a really awesome adventure. I love the horror / mystery vibe going on. It's a hard game to get into, right away, because is harder to control Lara, in this game, but once you're able to control her, you will have fun. A lot of challenges, and a lot of drama awaits you in this game. Just ignore the bugs. Overall, I will give this game a 9.5 out of 10. I really adore this game, even tho it's flawed. Perhaps, that's why I love this game.
