Here is a brand of toothpaste that is very mild and *still* has fluoride (sadly many "alternative" toothpastes don't have fluoride, fluoride is very good at preventing cavities and unless you have a very good reason don't skip it) I do not enjoy the sensation of mint... the "tingle" is not something I like. It took forever to find these. I tried like a dozen brands.
BURSTkids Mareshmallow (very mild, lightly sweet, no mint at all)
BURSTkids Strawberry (sweeter, no mint at all)
BURSTkids Bubblegum (not that sweet, mild, no mint)
Curaprox Be You Toothpaste, Watermelon Flavor (This one is just a tiny bit minty and has a texture, but it's not that bad)
I keep a toothbrush at my desk by my computer and brush my teeth sitting down, then exit to rinse. This is easier to do that going in to the bathroom looking in the mirror and just ... standing there. I can brush longer too.
Happily I've found that I want to brush now that I've been doing it much more often. So after I eat (at the desk) I can wait a bit and then brush.
For flossing a water pick is a nice addition and you can use it in the shower since it's kind of messy. I don't think a water pick is as effective as using real floss, but it can get food out from between the teeth and that makes a big difference.
Also, I've been hunting for less... stimulating mouthwashes, and ACT bubblegum is the best one so far... but would love any advice. I feel kind of patronized that all the products that meet my needs are "for kids" but I asked my dentist and he said it didn't matter. Just get what you can use often.
I have trouble taking care of my teeth because everything that involves doing that is a sensory nightmare. I decide to do some research to see if there's anything I can do about this. The results?
"How to make your autistic child brush their teeth"
"Autistic Children and Sensory issues relating to tooth brushing"
"How to get your little shit to brush his fucking teeth"
Like, yeah Google, thanks, that really helps. And like, even if I was a child, some of the advice seemed... unhelpful. Like, doing a dance and singing a song while brushing your teeth? Even for a kid, I don't think that would help distract from a sensory experience as intense as brushing your teeth. Like, the extremely intense and unpleasant flavor, the intense feeling of the brush against your teeth scraping across it, even mouthwash has such an intense and disgusting flavor that I have difficulty keeping it in my mouth for more than a few seconds. I wish there was SOMETHING that could be done.

Rainbow Brigade
@mareshmallow... @chelsthebookworm... Itâs my delight to gift to you the following fic in honor of this Holiday Season.
Whether due to surprise or etiquette, Cal shot up from his relaxed slump when more people joined him and his silver commanders in the room. Farley blocked his view for a moment and he relaxed recognizing other members of Command. His head snapped between Farley and a man on his right with only a small hint of confusion and a whole heap of annoyance. Then, intending to land back on Farley, he instead looked directly at Mare and morphed like an ember being extinguished in a muddy puddle. He visibly struggled to recover his composure. Cal turned to consult with the squat man with graying temples. Neither of them expected command to be there and Cal hadnât anticipated seeing Mare so soon.
Command thought Mare could have input on the Guardâs strategy and, disrupt the power balance at least a little. Farley stayed true to Commandâs decision and convinced Mare to attend a Command meeting, forgetting to mention that they were crashing a Silver alliance meeting.
Itâs only because he couldnât control his eyesâalways finding Mare even during the introductions, that he noticed the sag in her posture. She held her arm to her gingerly, and defensively. Sheâd left the battlefield hurt, but was healed before they entered the hall with House Samos. Her injuries made him shift in his seat. Twenty-four hours had passed and she was already hurt.
When she slid her hand off the table and under she emitted a soft groan. Cal shifted forward and into the table between them, a physical reminder of his divisive choice. The move stopped the droning speech of the squat man on his arm.
When his adviser put a hand on Calâs forearm, a sign of caution and meant to ground him, Cal exploded. Flames flickered and heat exuded throughout the tiny room. The man retracted, moving an arms length away. Cal blanched hot, eyes lit up. Suspicion crease the corners of his eyes. His chin jutted up in defiance.
âWhoâs games are you playing, Mare?â His echoing snarl snapped in half when the heavy door slammed shut behind him. Clearly, the prince thought Mareâs presence âwounded as she wasâ a play on his emotions. A play that obviously worked.
Farley turned to Mare, eyes set on rectifying the situation, at least on explaining it; but Mare didnât have time or patience or enough calm left to give her the chance.
âWhat game are we playing? Iâm not playing anyoneâs game.â Mare shook. Shaking was safer than pulling the lights down around the tables, but the lights still flickered.
[]
âGet me out of here,â Mare demanded.
âI didnât think⊠None of us thoughtâŠâ Farley started but words couldnât chip away the anger. She hedged with facts instead. âWeâre regrouping at the base, first transport at 1540. Iâll put your name on the list.â
Mare picked up an already packed duffel and marched to the field of transports to wait.
[]
Kilorn and Bree leaned against the hanger and waited for the transport door to spread wide. New bloods spilled out, silent and tired. Most were injured and in need of Sarahâs attention, Mare included. She looked more exhausted than any of them.
âHey, Mare!â Bree called her attention and Kilorn wished he was the one to catch her first hug as she crumpled in Breeâs arms. âYouâre hurt?â
âIâm okay. A New Blood healed most of it on the plane,â Mare assured him.
âMare, come on. Your momâs waiting.â Kilorn tugged them into motion. She sucked up snot and dried her eyes, squeezing his arm in response. She fell into her family and sunk into bed next to Gisa, sleeping more than a day in one stretch.
A stroke on her shoulder brought her around. Her dream told her it was Cal, her mind reminded her it was not. And her eyes hardened to see Farley, in plain clothes, looking with pity.
âWhy do you want?â Mare hissed, her throat dry and her chest sore.
âAre you ill?â
âWhat do you want?â Mare repeated, then pushed up and out of bed. She fumbled fingers through her hair and ignored the ache in her body. She couldnât ignore the pulse of pain from her bladder.
âTo see if youâre okay. Youâve been out for a while.â
âIâm fine.â She moved to side step Farley, but she was immediately blocked.
âSleeping so much isnât a sign of being okay.â
Mare bobbed left but Farley countered. âMove or Iâll piss right on you.â
Farley twisted to the side and let Mare pass, but stayed outside the door.
âIf your sick, Iâll send for Sarah,â Farley murmured.
âA little privacy?â
âMareââ when the lights flickered, Farley backed down the stairs.
The shower revived her although she didnât know to what ends. But Farley surely had a purpose specially chosen for her: a performance to give, a speech to read, a lie to tell. She combed her hair and fixed it back into a braid. The gray ends made up nearly half of her length. Running the tail through her fingers she considered her options. If she went down stairs, sheâd be obligated to listen. If she stomped out the front door, Farley would follow. She examined the different hues of gray as she turned her hair in the sunlight, then approached the window.
A window on the second floor was directly below her bedroom. It had a brick facade that jutted out an extra inch framing it. The little ledge was enough for her toes. And a small leap away was the sturdy branch of a oak. Escaping became second nature months ago. She lowered herself carefully, caught the ledge, and leapt backwards, twisting and grabbing the branch. Her breath caught as the tight skin forming into a scar on her arm pulled in an uncomfortable stretch. She moved hand over hand to the trunk and slid down to the grass. Better safe than sorry, she ran the length of the street and only slowed when she saw the swirl of storm clouds over the practice field.
She could sense Ellaâs power halfway across the base. She exuded an energy that coursed through the air begging Mare to come play. Tyton must have felt similar, as he sucked blue waves of light down into his skin and bounced white, crackling shocks between his fingers. He sent his bolts to a mannequin mock-up. It sizzled and danced on the sand. Mare gaped as the crown toppled off itâs head and onto the ground. She was certain it wasnât Maven drawing their ire.
Ellaâs clouds dissipated and cleared, Tyton stopped crackling his fingertips and both looked sheepishly at their toes. Mare gathered the static from the air and shot bright purple at the tin-foil hat and watched it blacken and fuse together with coils of lightning-glass.
âSorry, Mare. Rough situation,â Rafe sighed, his hand in a sling.
âYou were hurt?â She countered, placing the focus back on him.
âNot as much as it looks. Iâm low priority for the healers, scheduled for tomorrow.â
She nodded and turned back to the field.
âYou got any more crowns?â Mare asked.
âA few,â Ella smiled, pointing at a small pile of shrapnel fashioned into metal rings. Ella picked one made from barbed wire coils, tossed it a few times between her palms then and then launched it like a frisbee out and up. Mare painted the darkening sky purple.
â-
âHow long are you going to avoid me?â Farley asks, coming behind Mare on her trek from her parents home to the barracks.
Training with the other Electricons was more than a distraction to Mare. And, in her estimation, none of Farleyâs business. Lacking actual orders to fight or even a direction for what the Guard would pursue next, everyone had turned to routines and training to pass the time. Mare didnât even slow her pace, no intention to respond. Petty as it was to hold her encounter with Cal against Farley, Mare couldnât look at her without sparks threatening to dance on her skin.
âYouâre a soldier and you are one step away from being insubordinate. I know you donât want to face the factsââ
âWhat else am I supposed to do? Iâm training just like every other soldier.â
âYouâre not just another soldier. We need you to show up to meetings.â
âWhy? Iâm not good at scheming like you. Every time I try, I fuck up. Remember? Misjudging Cal. Misjudging Maven. Misjudging John. Misjudging Cal, again. Lets stop pretending Iâm at all helpful in making decisions. I am a new blood, a foot soldier. All Iâm good at is fighting. So go figure out who or what or where you want me to kill next, because Iâm done shitting all over this with my bad ideas.â
Farleyâs mouth opened and closed two times before she nodded and let Mare continue to her new bunk.
[]
âYou couldnât tell me this morning that you were moving?â Kilorn slumped onto the foot of her bed. He wiggled his toes in his boots and stretched his back as if heâd walked a dozen miles. Mare peaked out from under the flesh of her upper arm. Sheâd been dozing after a hard training session, blocking out the sun and the situation at the same time with the familiar feel of her sweaty skin.
âYou ever dye anything before?â Mare asked.
âI walked all the way to your folks place only to be told you decided to rough it out here with us.â
âDying? Have you ever dyed anything?â she stated with crisper enunciation.
âNot a âsorryâ or a âoopsâ?â
Mare sat up on her elbows and pushed his side with her barefoot while saying, âKilorn, Iâm sorry you had to walk an extra half mile and eat diner with my family.â
âHowâd you know?â Kilorn sat back, eyebrow raised.
âThereâs crumbs on your shirt.â She pointed with her toe. He slapped her foot back down to the bed.
âTramy sent rolls. I might have ate one.â Kilorn produced two bread rolls from behind his back. Mare snatched them, greedy. âWhat do you wanna dye?â
âMy hair.â
âAsk Gisa.â
âIâm asking you,â she said, mouth full of dry crust.
âWhat color?â he relented.
âPurple.â
Kilorn considered her thoughtfully, breaking into a small grin. âConformist.â
âShut up.â She snapped to her feet, pulled on her boots, and pushed him in the direction of the toilets.
[]
âI thought you werenât gonna dye your hair,â Rafe smirked.
âIâve made a dozen bad decisions, why not this one?â she countered, passing them on her way up the hill.
Half way into practice, a message runner arrived in a transport. Ella took the note, Mare was focused on precision strikes, sweating and cursing as she hit and missed.
âHold up, Barrow. We got orders.â Ella passed the note to her.
âLakelands? Weâre going to the Lakelands?â Mare racked her brain for any reason why the Scarlet Guard would cross the silver lines and attack in enemy territories, especially without an agreement with Cal. She regretted skipping meetings.
âSo?â Rafe looked at her expectantly.
She struggled again, then swallowed hard. Under her own request, she knew no more details than any other soldier.
âSoldiers donât make choices, they follow orders. Letâs get ready.â She lead them back to the barracks. Her insistence that she didnât know anything additional didnât dissuade their pointed questions.
Mare gave her mother a hug like it could be the last and then followed it with her father and brothers. Gisa she squeezed extra tight.
Kilorn pulled a hand out of his pocket so he could punch her shoulder lightly. âYou come back, okay?â He nodded at her.
âStay out of trouble,â she hit his shoulder back a tad harder than he had.
She turned and took in a deep breath when she faced the transport. Kilornâs hand on her shoulder spun her around and he wrapped her up.
âStay alive. Donât forget you got us here. Okay? He means nothing in all of this.â
âWho?â She responded dryly.
âDonât be stupid just because youâre hurting. Just come home, okay?â He held her long enough to force a nod.
The Electricons waited for her to board first then followed up the ramp.
[]
Three days of walking into skirmishes and theyâd finally stumbled onto a walled city built on the cliffs of the coast. Each company had a rough split of the new blood powers, excepting those that needed water from the ocean or who could turn the iron gates from defensive structures to offensive weapons. Mare called energy from a well so deep inside of her she scarcely believed she had more left to draw. Her energy was fading, she was fading. Never one to pray, she found herself searching for fireballs, heat, warmth, a sign that heâd come and help her, save her. Theyâd always saved each other. Down on one knee, she saw her purple bend down, snatched and turned yellow. She pushed through the Telky woman battering her with stones and bodies. She watching a blond-headed body streak past, sparks flying from fingertips, but no armor. She raced after him, eager to protect him, to draw energy from him, to get a respite and recover. Another Electricon, an undiscovered Lakelander New Blood could be a powerful ally in recruitment.
[]
The base gathered around the transports as one after another arrived. The first ship carried the wounded. And the second contained lower priority cases. Each transport that landed after produced waves of returning soldiers, prisoners, and new allies. Every plane was greeted as if they all carried victors and not ravaged rebels. Most of the coastal cities had been freed from silver control. But each was released back to Lakelanders as the small army moved from one to the next. In succession, every town but one was reclaimed by silver lords. But a heavy price had been paid. In the silver-lining, new bloods roused from the Lakeland countryside arrived for training, equipment, and supplies. All were ready to be sent back to join the fight as members of the Scarlet Guard.
Ruth reached Mare first, cupping her swollen face gently. The bruising on her left side was bad enough that she was barely recognizable, and Mare suspected she had a fractured orbital socket.
âIâm okay, mom,â she assured, pushing her motherâs hands away from her injuries.
The rest of her Electricons emerged from the transport behind her. The blond-headed boy starstruck by the big hangers and the crowd straggled for a moment and hopped two big strides to catch up with Tyton and Rafe. Ella limped a little behind the boys.
Kilorn touched her shoulders and chuckled in a nervous release of anxiety. âYouâre two colors short of officially being the Rainbow Brigade,â he teased.
âOh that one? Yeah, picked him up at the first city. Heâs been a pretty good addition. He may not need any hair dye to fit in. But I could use a touch up.â She smiled and allowed her arms to wrap around his middle. He rocked her inside of a solid hug, their soles pushing from side to side.
âGood job staying alive.â Kilorn pressed his face to the top of her head.
âWho else is gonna keep you in line?â Mare sighed into him, heavy in his arms. For the first time since they left weeks prior, she let herself relax.

Iâm more excited for Paige starting to call Warden Arcturus in The Mask Falling than I can describe. How will they decide on that? Will they have a discussion? Will Paige shade him before doing so? Will the first time come as a surprise? Will it have ... oh no, of course itâll be filled this incredible yet soft sexual tension between them, the question is rather - will Iâll be reading the scene innumerable times afterward as a paragon of a ship or will it be so intense Iâll combust? When just Warden saying âhmâ can be done sexily, Paige saying âArcturusâ with love instead of spite in a pivotal moment of their relationship will be breathtaking.
Samantha Shannon raised our standards with Paige x Warden so much, Iâm not surprised sheâs so open with hints to the progression of their relationship *cough* - Iâm fully convinced she cannot disappoint there.

Looking for artists!!
I'm looking for any artists who'd be down to collaborate and make a WebToon. Especially if you don't have a story idea but have always wanted to create one, boy oh boy do I have one for you (is this pitch working?? I, uh, I'm trying to sound like one of those cool infomercials rn)
HOWEVER this is a big undertaking!! If you're like me and are a big fan of WebToons like Purple Hyacinth, Siren's Lament, True Beauty, SubZero, I Love Yoo....etc and are interested in brainstorming, I'd be happy to answer any questions.
Especially if you're into the fantasy/dark academia genres, then I'd think you'd like this! And if you're questioning you're art skills I'm already mad because I have no doubt that you're amazing and I will not hesitate to bully you with love and support. Also the more the better! I'm looking for a team here!!
You will need:
To have experience with digital drawing, lineart, colouring, shading
Have some base knowledge about storyboarding. If you don't then, hey me neither we can figure it out
Come with ideas!!
Love WebToons (lol jk not a requirement)
Submit a few pieces so I can get a general idea of your art style. But don't let this scare you! All styles are appreciated and welcomed.
Feel free to message me @mareshmallow here or on Twitter @adraxsteia

Random fact: I used to live in Alaska! It was so beautiful, I absolutely loved it. I really wish I could go back
Describe yourself as aesthetic things: Fuzzy socks and sliding on hardwood, dark chocolate melting in your mouth, sunlight filtering through green leaves, fire-warmed clothes, wheezing laughter with friends, crimson berries against snow

Nick: Jax is not from Scion.
Jaxon: Donât insult me. Further from the Archon than the cradle from the grave. Not that those two states are all that far apart, but you understand my meaning.
Paige: (thinking) I wasnât sure I did.
Me: âNot that those two states are all that far apart, but you understand my meaning.â Oh. O_O

Within the Static
What they knew about the sea past Norta was that it seemed to be endless. Airships had left with extra tanks installed and still had to turn back before they spotted land. And, without much to do besides bankroll an adventure, Cal found the distraction he had wanted. The ship was made with a wide hull lined in thin plates of metal. The masts were strong and reinforced waiting for when the fuel ran out and theyâd be at the mercy of the wind. The more-than-worthy crew came with recommendations and experience on small vessels and large bases that all promised military discipline. They all wanted to see the end of the horizon as much as they wanted the handsome pay.
Mare paused her tour around the countryside to watch the ship leave harbor. The vote was coming and notable war heroes drummed support for the act of casting a ballot. Still, time held still for her as she waved an arm with the masses and watched him push past the jetty and beyond the bay. Her chest twinged knowing, in some way, he ran as much away from her as towards anything else.
The ship disappeared as theyâd intended and life proceeded on with imaginings of what would be found at the other end of the water. Mare gravitated to the edge of the ocean and sat as the waves came in and washed over her legs more times than she could count. Her eyes looked east so often, they barely looked elsewhere.
As a year passed and the anticipated return flitted by, the papers posted headlines that, at first, scraped optimistic and then carved ominous. From âThe Return of Calore!â to âCalore Lost at Sea?â and then bleakly, âHope Expires.â And each left deep, scouring divots that soon left Mare paper thin.
Raising support for another ship, without the money of a High House, took another year. All along the arguments against were paired with her pert hope that heâd be coming back into the harbor on his own.
âRescue Launchedâ and âChasing Caloreâ were the primary taglines that came with the news of the second voyage. Dirty details both true and not were spilled across the pages for everyone to gape and jeer. Her seduction. His rejection. Their reconciliation. The end of the war that ended them.
âThe Red Queen Sails for her Princeâ
The best had already gone and the runners up had more sense. And yet, she managed to pull together a crew that at least feared a sound shock. A few had useful abilities though not a Nymph nor Windweaver bunked among them. Six months after the two year mark, Mare set out on less an adventure and more a folly looking for the heir to House Calore.
Nothing worse than âtyrantâ was ever said to her face, but she overheard much worse. Through pin-hole vision she pushed the sailors across the expanse and into the unknown. A radio waved back and forth and all around searching for any signal and sending more than a few in all directions. Only static returned.
From it, her brain pulled melodies complex and lyrical and after hours words sounded more foreign than the white snow that sank deep into her scars. Among the signals of silence, she made the landscape of her dreams where she sifted the sounds and uncovered a foot here and a hand there, though the rest of him always stayed down beneath the muffling hiss.
âLand! I see land!â The boy on the mast called it for the fourth time this week only this time heâd waited extra long for the mirage to clear.
From the front of the boat, she saw land. At the back, the hurricane spiraled faster than they could outrun. The crew continued to secure what they could, to find sturdy flotation devices, and strapping packs with some provisions though still too light to sink.
Land. There was a hope that they could close some of the gap. That they might just make it to shore. The rain began to pelt the deck. Mare heard it as just more static snow.
When the wave took them up, she knew this one would spill them. She, and the crew, all clung to the railings predicting which way it would turn. The game tumbled like dice with some choosing wrong and others right. Mare leapt as far and as clear as she could. And then she hugged her flotation harness and sucked air when ever she could and sucked water at the same time.
Mare Barrow drowned under the crushing waves and amidst the debris of her rescue craft within sight of a new land. She could see the murky surface of the water as the rise of the massive waves cast shadows and pulled her deep. Her lungs kicked her ribs and her vision faded to black. Deep in her ears, the whirl of nothing lived on.
The absence of the rush meant there wasnât any static in the afterlife. And the sore pulse of her breathing in her ribs meant there was air. No where in her imagination did she predict her survival. And yet, she laid on her side on a soft mat in the darkness of some place subterranean. And a warm rush of air pushed across her ear.
Crooked fingers and a white scar marred the arm wrapped around her. Hairy legs and nothing else separated him from behind her. She should have snapped away from him, naked as she was. She should have sent a shock ripping through her entire length and left him for dead. She would have if it werenât for the bracelet under the scar.
