Two Gods Among Mortals

Summary: Both Shanks and Marco are both Gods that have been around long before the Void Century. The two are great friends and would often give up their godly status to walk among the mortals. They find it quite entertaining.

Shanks blinked as he looked at his long-term best friend. Marco was in his Godly form, which wasn't much of a surprise. However, he did kind of wonder what happened. “...What… what happened?” He asked. Marco looked at him and gave a huff. Probably annoyed at his hesitance. “Teach. He tried attacking Thatch for the Devil Fruit he found.” Marvo replied, wings bristling in anger. “...Which Devil Fruit?” He asked. It had to have been a powerful Fruit for Teach to act.

“The Yami-Yami no mi,” Marco replied as Shanks sat next to him. The red-haired male stiffened next to him. “Oh. Did he get it? And is Thatch okay?” Shanks replied. “No, and yes.” Marco points at Thatch who waves. Shanks smiled at him before looking up at the sky. “...War is coming and as always, I will stand by your side, friend,” Shanks said as he gently intertwined their pinkies together. Marco smiled.

Nobody said anything. The Whitebeard Pirates knew that Marco was a God, given that he had once again regained his godly form and powers. And the Red-haired Pirates knew that Shanks was a God. Mainly because Shanks didn't feel comfortable with keeping this information from his crew. Nobody cared. They were shocked, yes, but Shanks and Marco were still Shanks and Marco.

After a while, Ace walked over to Shanks who was talking to Vista. “Shanks.” He said, making the male look at him. “Yes?” He asked, looking at the ravenette. “How long have you and Marco been friends?” Vista perked up at that. “Oh yeah. I also thought that Marco hated you. He always looked annoyed whenever you were brought up. Mainly in the newspaper.” Vista said and Shanks sighed. “He was probably more annoyed at what the Marines were saying about me more than anything. Marco is the God of Adventure, Freedom, Knowledge, Protection, Rebirth, Healing, and Family after all.” Shanks replied. “And we have been friends for a very long time. Long before the Void Century. Everyone has forgotten about the true gods and we all have decided to play the long game. Wait until Joy Boy comes back.” Shanks replied.

“What are you the God of?” Izo asked, walking over with Thatch. “Oh? I'm the God of War, Victory, Bravery, Power, Intelligence Warfare, Strength, Chaos, and Order.” Shanks replied.

Its not really dragon claw Sabo never learnt but his insane grip strength is canon to me in ways that Ace has daddy issues and so he still knows how to shatter metal between his fingers and ofc skulls

Marcos turn to be surprised, brows raised, he had been so so sure that Sabo had a devil fruit too, considering Ace being a logia and their closeness it made sense for his effective second to have one too

“Raw?” Sabo flexes his fingers grins as Ace coughs up salt water and moans with the aggravated temperament of a man whos lost too many times (not wrong but hes allowed to be mad about it)

Our gramps twists something mean inside Marcos gut, who the fuck would shoot cannonballs at their own damn family? More importantly who even had the budget to afford to waste munitions on a bunch of kids

Fifty becomes sixty, becomes seventy. You miss his flames from time to time, but your fifty year old husband has more pep in his step and draw hot baths for you, brings you tea. You’re nearly eighty, maybe a little older, when the end draws near for you.

He’s over sixty, by true rights over a century, and he sits with you with a warm smile, the edges drawn only a little in sorrow. You’ve had more decades of time together than you ever believed possible.

And you’ll die before him. As everyone else has.

He regretted not being able to outlive you, after carrying that burden for so many others, but that was, perhaps the last gift his Zoan fruit gave him. Being able to keep you comfortable, safe, and loved for all the days of your life.

Being able to protect you from the solitude that would have followed. His pretty bird, after all, should never have to sing such a sorrowful song.

He will bury you, but his broken heart, and his extra years, will not carry him much further. A year later the village buried him beside you, grave set at the foot of the great mountain.

8. Which character(s) do you find easiest to write?

i don't find Doffy or Smoker to be particularly difficult? once i outlined each story and determined their motivations, it's been easy enough to keep them on track in terms of characterization and development (though i was intimidated by doffy early on)

also Brook in The HΩuse on Rumbar Boulevard has been a joy to write, he's a breeze and SO MUCH FUN

9. Which character(s) do you find most difficult to write?

i've been poking at a Marco (One Piece) fic and tbh he's tough, it's hard to nail his demeanor and speaking voice (i refuse to add 'yoi' all over the damn place when writing in english LMAO)

also Kurama (YYH), but not because i personally have trouble writing him per se...i just have a very specific characterization of him in mind and it's pissed people off before (like bro people are SO PRECIOUS ABOUT HIM!??? wtfffff)...i have felt self-conscious about my plans for him in The Sight Unseen as a result...also the OC i've paired with him isn't the fandom's normal OC archetype for a kurama fic and i've gotten the rudest fucking comments about it saying Rei is not "special enough" for him LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO.........it's wild what people find acceptable for this fictional blorbo (like they think they can somehow dictate which OCs are 'allowed' or not) but you do you booboo, live your truth, LMAO

i've been posting lately about The Art of Queen Sacrifice, my upcoming Doffy/OC fic...it takes place in an AU setting that's more in line with a historical pirate setting, with no Devil Fruit powers, and i'm really eager to show it to you all....OBLIGATORY MOODBOARD REPOST:

i also have a ton of OCCULT PIECE stories to share...i have fics planned for Marco, Katakuri, Shanks, Mihawk, Pedro, Crocodile, Buggy, Sabo, and many more...i just love exploring the lore of that gigantic AU, and every story is a new opportunity to map out new connections and the history of the modern, urban fantasy AU setting

19. Do you prefer canon-compliant, AUs, or something in-between?

it's one or the other and NO in-between at all

i love writing canon compliant shit...There's Fire and The Grasp of Gilded Strings are both as canon compliant as they can be considering One Piece is unfinished, and i designed both stories to fit seamlessly with canon without disrupting it...i want them to read as additional side-stories that complement the canon, and for both of them, i'm achieved that (though of course future Smoker or Doffy developments during or post-Egghead, which is where we are now in canon, could derail my plans)

tbh, setting things post-canon for complete series is my overall preference when remaining canon compliant...canon can never "unmake" anything i write when the series is complete, and i used to write exclusively for completed series before falling in love with One Piece

on the opposite side of the spectrum, OCCULT PIECE is a clear indicator of how much i love completely AU settings...i love making my own playground within the bounds of fandom <3

i don't write pairings of canon characters, so OC/CC is my preferred pairing to write (and read)

the entire OCCULT PIECE world is alive in my head and i daydream about it constantly...i think Sanji is at work in the Baratie restaurant in the OCCULT PIECE world and he occasionally serves meals to the couples in the OccP universe, so it's funny to think about him serving Zoro and the Witch on a date

i think about Rei and Kurama going dancing a lot...also i headcanon that she's the OC in The Hunt sometimes, and if that story is their married life, i can't help but think about what she and Kurama got up to on their honeymoon LMAOOOOOO...planning on writing that one down someday because it's gonna be 🔥

also i daydream the conclusions of There's Fire, Beyond the Fracture and Gilded ALL THE TIME, i've basically lived out those stories a million times already LMAO

FOR THE BIRD AU. I love building and your ideas mmmmm delish.

Thoughts on celestial dragon not having wings? Or cutting them off at birth? Maybe there wings are useless seeing as they never use them and always keep them covered no one really knows. But there are theory’s. (Could be why Dolfamingo and Corason ware those fluffy feathered coats to cover up the fact they don’t have wings.)

Ok devil fruit user who I think don’t have wings. Crocodile. Wether threw injury or choice. I feel like Sir crocodile doesn’t have wings anymore. New People constantly expect signals from a whole form of communication that simply doesn’t exist anymore, he of course uses this to its full possibilities-He is impossible to read at first and alot of people underestimate him because of his disability and by being ableist dicks, he can go and take everything they love right from under there nose and they never even suspected him.

Kuma though not by choice. He’s back stories already so god damned sad why don’t we add even more tears it huh. (Every time I learn more about this man I want to strangle Oda, how dare this sweet teddy bear of a man be subjected to such horror.)

And surprise Marco. I feel like it would interesting a lot of people would probably dicks about it at first or just avoid him or be very delicate and over correcting themselves around him. Marco and crew will quickly dissuade new comers of this stupidity.

A few of big moms kids might not have wings? Seeing as she’s seems to be part gaint maybe gaints don’t have wings or at least different type? Maybe Kaido got rid of his wings? Or again was born without seeing as he’s another species called Oni? Maybe he has Dragon wings?

Either way I love this au and will be writing and drawing alot more for it in the future.

OKAY BUT I HAVE THOUGHTS!

Celestial Dragons see themselves as gods, right? Different from everyone else. Higher than everyone else. They don't eat devil fruits because to them, they don't need that extra power. Plus, why would gods ruin their relationship with Mother Sea?

So yeah, they cut their wings off at birth as a sign of being better than everyone else. Doflamingo and Corazon definitely have their feathered jackets as a memory of the wings they lost.

Crocodile did get his wings cut off when he got his devil fruit. He didn't see the point in them anymore. And if he was going to take over Alabasta, it would be better to get rid of wings that could give away his emotions.

WHY WOULD YOU MENTION KUMA!? (Sobs into blankets) But you are so right. Anyway.

Marco lost his wings because they burned up when he ate his devil fruit because I want the angst. JUST IMAGINE! His devil allows him to become a Phoenix, but at the painful cost of his original wings.

Kaido isn't changed much because of what species he is. He stays a dragon, but in human form he still has the dragon wings.

I am 100% going to write more for this au, and honestly, I will probably cry if you make more fanart/fanfiction for this au. I love it.

Cora! Heads up. I’ll use both Cora and Rosi interchangeably  throughout this. Sorry if anyone has a particular preference.

favorite thing about them:

The side of goofiness amongst the harshness. Trying to be tough (and he is tough) and so easily undermined. EG: When he’s trying to impress Law and Law says that even Baby 5′s power is better than Cora’s (and Baby 5 has a wicked devil’s fruit), and Cora admits that Law’s right

Or when he first reveals to Law that he can speak and Law asks him if the clumsiness was all an act, and he says that it was, of course...then immediately has to douse a fire, cos’ his set himself alight (or Law has to point it out to him).

So much to like about him.

least favorite thing about them:

He whaled into the kids (Law, Baby 5, Buffalo) as viciously and consistently (2 years for Law) as Garp ever did with ASL, though maybe the time was a bit shorter with Law than Garp with Luffy.

It’s a story, and these characters are all very flawed in their own ways, but I don’t know that he should get such a pass for it, or feel that it should be recognised a little more.

favorite line:

I actually have one for him, because watching or reading that fateful scene in Minion, how many times, has it almost seared into my mind, as I’m sure it is into the minds of many. Still makes me tear up.

Does Rosi have these? I like chaotic crack fics, usually AU, where Doffy and Cora kinda co-parent together. Cora’s the slightly more societally acceptable 

and empathetic, but still manages to cause plenty of trouble, and Doff is just trouble. Not evil. Just trouble. Lol. Law’s the adult of the family of course. Even at age 10.

I really can’t think of him as brOTP with another character, but possibly with someone from the marines.

OTP:

Bell-mère. I like the fanfics that have them chaotically looking after Nami, Nojiko and Law as sibs. I’ve read Rosi and Croc, and Katakuri, and I won’t say no to either. I’ve also read a snippet of Reiju and Cora and it was nicely written.

OOH, I know, I love the Kuzan/Cora ship (ASL in Red in particular painted that ship really well in fanfic, AO3).

nOTP: Again, I’ve read some of these fics, and enjoyed some, and like a lot of the art, but I’m not into Cora///Law (unless they met as adults with no connection to one another). Cora is a parental figure to me in terms of his relationship with Law.

and not much into Doff//Cora either. Lots of very cool art and fiction and all though. So I can’t say I haven’t read or seen or reblogged.

Nearly everyone else is okay, depending on power dynamics.

random headcanon:

As with others in the fandom, that Sengoku’s goat (Bleat in my fics) was a gift to a very quiet boy to help him have someone to care for and to care for someone.

That he (and Bleat) spoke to Nico Olvia when she was chained up in the cell by the marines.

Therefore, he knew Jaguar D. Saul

He went to Ohara as a 17 year old, but they kept him away from the cannon balls. Sengoku sent him as a test of his loyalty to the marines.

He was lucky he was with Doflamingo when the World Government decided to intervene or not intervene with Flevance.

unpopular opinion:

Ah, my unpopular opinion is up there in the thing I don’t like category. As I think I said on my Law post, and I might have misunderstood intent, but Law had lots of reasons to question Cora’s love, even while obviously loving him.

I don’t have one. Something light, or heart wrenching. You know what? “She Cries Your Name,” by Beth Orton keeps going around in my head, especially the violin (if that’s what it is) at the beginning ( a single sound like a rim scraping against a lonely railway line), so let’s say that. God, I love that song.

I don’t know that I portrayed my take on this guy, but I really like him.

Two Gods Among Mortals Information:

This is basically a One Piece AU where Shanks and Marco are gods. They are also good friends, but everyone thinks that the two are enemies.

The two have been good friends with each other since before the Void Century. Not many people remember the true gods that existed before the Celestial Dragons, but neither care. Also, the true gods are playing the long game. When Joy Boy comes back that is when they will strike.

These are what they are the Gods of.

Marco God of Adventure, Freedom, Knowledge, Protection, Rebirth, Healing, and Family.

Shanks God of War, Victory, Bravery Power, Intelligence Warfare, Strength, Chaos, and Order.

Edit: They also have God forms and in Marco's God form, he has wings that look like his wings when he uses his Devil Fruit. He can also turn into a full Phoenix and has no Devil Fruit.
