Anniversary Tournament
Last year for Doctor Who's anniversary I ran a tournament between Doctor Who stories, and I wanted to so something different again this year. A tournament between real people important to the history of Doctor Who, actors, writers, producers, directors, composers, production designers. Technically it'll be a tournament for the most infuential person to Doctor Who and its development over the years, but really I want it to be a celebration of all of these people, and not just the winner.
To that end, the nomination form, you can also submit nominations normally, ie sending me an ask or replying to this post, however I won't be accepting propaganda through those methods.

hello hello!
so they might have licensed the ruby slippers from warner brothers for the movie(s)!! (personally, i feel excited but also nervous because I hope they still do the wicked witch of the east switcheroo/effect with them) I was also able to spot lullaby league lookalikes in one of the pictures, so it seems they may be leaning into the baum books, the 1939 movie, AND the maguire books. have you read any of the books? what are your thoughts on the book aspect adding more to the musical?
(so so sorry for this multi-part question)
I thought I had dreamed seeing this Ask because WHAT. The creators behind Oz the Great and Powerful couldn't even use the 1939 Wicked Witch's skin tone for their film - they needed a whole different shade. So for WB to give the Wicked film permission to use the slippers is major imo!!
The fun thing about Wicked is that Universal has owned the rights from Day 1. Maguire gave the rights to Universal to make a live-action film in 1998; Stephen Schwartz convinced him to turn it into a musical, and then convinced Marc Platt from Universal to join the production. So it's possible that we're getting everything. Pieces from the 1939 movie, the Baum books, Maguire's books, and possibly - hopefully!!! - bits from the Wicked scripts that had been written and re-written in the time between 1998 and 2001!! It's possible that they're just sticking with the 1939 movie and some of Maguire's book to keep things simple and to also appeal to a certain demographic, but I would love for it to be different enough from the musical to not feel like I'm paying a major studio $15 for something I would rather see on stage.
But it's possible that my autism is just making me fire on all cylinders for this, lol. I have been in love with Gregory Maguire's Wicked since I read it in 2006 (it turned me gay and a raging liberal, according to my mother), and the musical cemented it for me when I finally saw it the following year. After that, I went on an Oz obsessive spree that hasn't really stopped. Read all of Maguire's books as they were released following SoaW, bought all of the original Baum canon and tore into those, devoured every. single. adaptation I could find - from Tin Man to the 1925 Wizard of Oz film... There is just so much to play with!
#toiletpotato#max answers asks sometimes#[coco peru voice] it's the autism#sorry for word-vomitting - i don't have a lot of people to talk about this with lmao

I dont think the problem with the ronnie spector film isnt the lack of pull from zendaya. Marc Platt is also a producer and he has a ton of pull in the industry coupled with the fact that A24 is already pegged as a distributor. I think the problem is getting the right team in place and not having something written in addition to zendaya just being busy with euphoria, spiderman and dune and the recent passing of ronnie spector they may have temporarily shelved it.
Though I think once euphoria is done ( i think season 3 is the final season) I think she'll finally be able to do some extensive pre production with ronnie spector and I think late 2025 or 2026 filming is nost relaistic (unless she has another movie in the pipeline before then)
Thank you Anon 😊

...January 24, 1925 ~
Remembering America’s first Prima Ballerina, MARIA TALLCHIEF, today on her birthday ❤️
Born on the Osage Reservation in Oklahoma, Tallchief began taking dance lessons at an early age. The family moved to Los Angeles, and at age 12 she began training with dancer/choreographer Bronislava Nijinska. Her dance career was beginning to accelerate, and at age 17, Tallchief found herself in New York City, as a member of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. Then in 1944, she met with, and began working under, George Balanchine. In August of 1946, Tallchief and Balanchine married each another.
In 1947, Tallchief became the first American to perform with the Paris Opera Ballet. Back in the States, in October of 1947, she then became the first Prima Ballerina of the New York City Ballet. In 1949, Balanchine created the title role for Tallchief, in the electrifying “The Firebird” - with scenery and costumes by none other than Marc Chagall. This was the role that put her on top of the ballet world.
In 1952, she took some time off to go to Hollywood, appearing as the dancer Anna Pavlova in the Esther Williams movie “Million Dollar Mermaid”, a retelling of the life of Australian swimmer/actress Annette Kellermann. More demanding roles followed in the years to come.
In 1954, Balanchine took an obscure ballet titled “The Nutcracker”, completely restaged it, and put Tallchief into the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy, transforming it into the classic it is today. More roles followed: the Swan Queen in “Swan Lake”; Eurydice in “Orpheus”; and principal roles in numerous plotless vehicles. She was Rudolf Nureyev’s partner for his 1962 American debut, which was broadcast on national tv.
Tallchief retired from dancing in 1966, moving to Chicago and founding the ballet school in that city’s Lyric Opera. She also became the artistic director of the Chicago City Ballet. She received the Kennedy Center Honor in 1996. Maria Tallchief passed away in 2013 at age 88.
Her legacy as a dancer is one who was electrifying, passionate and fiery, but also one of unsurpassed strength and technical brilliance.
Tallchief is honored as one of the “Five Moons”, i,e, the five Oklahoma-born Native American ballerinas, which include Maria Tallchief (Osage); sister Marjorie Tallchief (Osage) - and who sadly just passed away in 2021 at age 95; Yvonne Chouteau (Shawnee); Moscelyne Larkin (Eastern Shawnee/Peoria); and, Rosella Hightower (Choctaw).

According to Variety, Universal Pictures will be producing a film adaptation of SEGA’s Shinobi and the studio has enlisted “Extraction” filmmaker Sam Hargrave and producer Marc Platt to adapt the ninja action-packed franchise for the big screen.
Ken Kobayashi, known for his work on “Sunny” and “Move On”, will be writing the screenplay for “Shinobi.” Platt and Adam Siegel will produce through Marc Platt Productions. Dmitri M. Johnson will produce through Story Kitchen. Toru Nakahara will produce through Sega.
Mike Goldberg will executive produce alongside co-producer Timothy I. Stevenson. Universal’s senior VP of production development Ryan Jones and director of production development Christine Sun will oversee the project for the studio.
SEGA has been on a roll with film and tv adaptations as of late along with the recent announcement of returning IPs currently in development. This is a great way to introduce their retro titles to a newer audience.

Cruella 2021
Cruella is a 2021 American crime comedy film produced by Walt Disney Pictures, Marc Platt Productions and Gunn Films and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is based on the character Cruella de Vil from Dodie Smith's 1956 novel The Hundred and One Dalmatians. The film was directed by Craig Gillespie and produced by Andrew Gunn, Mark Platt and Christine Burr, with a screenplay by Dana Fox and Tony McNamara, from a story by Alain Brosh McKenna, Kelly Marcel and Steve Geese. It is the third live-action adaptation of the 101 Dalmatians franchise, and serves as a reboot and an alternate origin story for the title character. Emma Stone stars as the title character, with Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, Emily Beecham, Kirby Howell-Baptiste and Mark Strong in supporting roles. Set in London during the punk rock movement of the 1970s, the film revolves around Estella Miller, an aspiring fashion designer, as she explores the path that led her to become a notorious up-and-coming fashion designer known as Cruella de Vil.

i know this isn't the most important thing about maha dakhil's situation with caa, but i always found lovely how much maha supported simone even if she wasn't her agent. maybe as one of the few powerful non-white women behind the scene in hollywood, she felt a kinship to simone.
what has happened recently shows how fragile non-white people's positions in the industry actually are anyway, especially women.
how media has been covering the firing of melissa also feels to me like them trying to scare people off to silence. a variety article mentioned that marc platt tried to get the black (and jewish) director boots riley fired from wme for being antizionist and saying that idf movie that gal gadot was sponsoring should be boycotted. he didn't get him fired and boots said that he also thought it was just used to scare people https://twitter.com/BootsRiley/status/1727189361656266850?t=kEx6toyf3-QVF05MExzduA&s=19
Maha supporting Simone 🥺
Hollywood needs to burn to the ground, you know it’s bad when trash like Tom Cruise steps out to say what’s going on is beyond all reason
Seeing the actress from scream being labelled as antisemitic by a production company when she was very inclusive of Jewish voices in all her posts is not surprising, Hollywood is a tool to spread Israeli propaganda 🤡
