Anniversary Tournament
Last year for Doctor Who's anniversary I ran a tournament between Doctor Who stories, and I wanted to so something different again this year. A tournament between real people important to the history of Doctor Who, actors, writers, producers, directors, composers, production designers. Technically it'll be a tournament for the most infuential person to Doctor Who and its development over the years, but really I want it to be a celebration of all of these people, and not just the winner.
To that end, the nomination form, you can also submit nominations normally, ie sending me an ask or replying to this post, however I won't be accepting propaganda through those methods.

On the 19th of November 2024, the teaser trailer for the live action 'How To Train Your Dragon' was released!
It is based on the 2010 Dreamwork's computer animated movie of the same name and on the 2003 novel by Cressida Cowell.
The live action How To Train Your Dragon is directed by Dean Deblois, who also directed the original animated trilogy. Filming took place in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
It is being produced by DreamWorks' Animation and Marc Platt Productions. It will be distributed by Universal Pictures.
London based VFX studio Framestore are creating the visual effects.
It has also been designed for the IMAX and RealD 3D cinema experience.
This trailer offers a sneak peek into the live action set to be released in June 2025, fifteen years after the animated classic was released.
It features Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, Stoick the Vast and of course, Toothless the Night Fury dragon!
A first look video has also been released alongside the trailer.
This reveals why a live action version was released and also offers a glimpse of the Viking training academy and Astrid Hofferson.

I dont think the problem with the ronnie spector film isnt the lack of pull from zendaya. Marc Platt is also a producer and he has a ton of pull in the industry coupled with the fact that A24 is already pegged as a distributor. I think the problem is getting the right team in place and not having something written in addition to zendaya just being busy with euphoria, spiderman and dune and the recent passing of ronnie spector they may have temporarily shelved it.
Though I think once euphoria is done ( i think season 3 is the final season) I think she'll finally be able to do some extensive pre production with ronnie spector and I think late 2025 or 2026 filming is nost relaistic (unless she has another movie in the pipeline before then)
Thank you Anon 😊

CONTINUED...
Here’s a more detailed, point-by-point explanation of the situation, as though a professor is explaining the nuances of the intellectual property and film rights for Wanted:
1. Ownership of the Wanted Comic IP
Creator and Publisher: Wanted, the comic book series, was created by Mark Millar (writer) and J.G. Jones (artist). It was first published by Image Comics between 2003 and 2004. This means that Mark Millar, as the writer and co-creator, retains the ownership of the intellectual property (IP) for the comic itself.
Mark Millar's Role: As the creator of the comic series, Millar owns the rights to the characters, storyline, and original concept. This gives him authority over the comic book version of Wanted.
2. Film Rights to Wanted
Acquisition of Film Rights: While Millar owns the comic’s IP, the film rights for Wanted were sold to Universal Pictures. This happened before the 2008 movie adaptation was produced. The film rights give Universal the ability to create, produce, and distribute movies based on the Wanted comic series.
Universal's Role: Universal Pictures holds the legal control over any live-action film adaptations of Wanted. This means that any potential reboots, sequels, or film projects related to the Wanted universe would need to go through Universal Pictures.
3. What This Means for a Potential Reboot
Beyoncé’s Interest in Rebooting: If an artist like Beyoncé wanted to reboot the Wanted film, she would need to negotiate primarily with Universal Pictures, as they control the rights to make new films based on the comic.
Universal’s Control: While Millar still holds the original comic IP, Universal’s film rights supersede his control over the movie adaptations. Therefore, even if Beyoncé were interested in working on a reboot, her team would need to enter into discussions with Universal to obtain the necessary permissions and collaborate on a new adaptation.
Mark Millar's Role: Even though Millar no longer controls the film adaptation rights, he is still the creator of the original source material. Depending on the nature of the reboot or any potential film project, Millar may still be involved in some capacity, particularly if Universal or any other producer wants to incorporate his vision of the Wanted universe. However, his role would likely be secondary to Universal's control over the film.
4. What Would Be Involved in the Negotiations
Primary Negotiations: The primary negotiations for a film reboot of Wanted would need to be conducted with Universal Pictures. They are the gatekeepers when it comes to making any new film adaptations or reboots. Beyoncé, or anyone interested in reviving the franchise, would need to approach Universal and discuss the terms of creating a new movie, including creative direction, contracts, financial arrangements, and distribution.
Secondary Consideration – Millarworld: If Universal is still working with Mark Millar through his company, Millarworld, which was acquired by Netflix in 2017, then Millarworld may also have a say in how the intellectual property is handled. In the event of a reboot, Millar’s company could offer consultation or involvement, but Universal would ultimately hold the final decision-making power regarding the film.
5. Conclusion: Who to Negotiate With for a Reboot
Key Point: While Mark Millar owns the original comic IP for Wanted, Universal Pictures holds the film rights. Thus, any film reboot or new adaptation of Wanted would require negotiations with Universal, and potentially also with Millarworld if they are consulted on the project. Millar's involvement would depend on the terms of the arrangement, but Universal Pictures is the primary entity to contact for anything related to the film.
This breakdown should provide clarity on the intricate relationship between comic creators, film rights, and the process of rebooting a franchise. If you'd like more detail on any specific part of this process or have further questions, feel free to ask!
