Just Friends – Alex Karev x Fem! Reader
Tumblr media
Type: Imagine (2,200+ words)
Requested: No
Summary: After being invited to a gala, you beg Alex to accompany you to help soften the blow of your mother's demands of you finding a suitable man.
Warning(s): Grey's Spoilers, Mild Swearing, Smut-ish towards the end
Note(s): You're a Peds nurse, so you and Alex grew close over the years, and your mom is a famous fashion designer. Thank you for reading!
———
I sit behind the nurse's station, going over a couple of charts. I drift my index finger over a few lines, then look up to log the information into the desktop computer in front of me. My ears perk up as I hear a familiar voice coming from down the hallway to my left. I look up from the log and spot my best friend and Pediatrics Chief, Alex Karev.
He enters a patient's room and I duck my head down to continue transfering information from the charts that I have. After a few minutes, he comes out and knocks on the marble island in front of my seat.
I look up and give him a sweet smile. "Hey, Karev. What's up?"
"Oh, nothing much. I just wanted to say hi." He smirks, returning the smile.
"Aw, that's so–"
"Ah, just kidding. I just need the chart for 2211. The kid in there is allergic to a few medications and I just need to look over which ones." Alex leans his forearms against the island and scrunches his nose.
"Rude." I roll my eyes before sifting through my pile of charts on my lap and beside me on the desk. I grab it and begin to hand it to him, but then I remember that I need a favor. "Actually," I pull the chart back, looking Alex up and down, "could you do me a favor?"
Alex reaches over for the chart and shakes his head. "You've asked me too many times for me to know that what I'm gonna agree to is gonna be either embarrassing or go down really badly."
I pull my arm back and feign a gasp. "What? No! It's just a simple, teeny-tiny favor, Alex, please!"
"Let me hear it," he grumbles, standing straight and crossing his arms. "This better be quick."
"Okay, so you know how my mom has these galas a couple of times a year to celebrate the brand and their partners?"
"Yes?" Alex drags out.
"Well, she invited me to one and wants me to bring a date. And I was hoping‐"
"No, no no no no no." Alex turns and walks away briskly. I tuck 2211's chart under my arm and I immediately get up to try and follow him.
I trail behind Alex, pouting. "Karev, please! It's just gonna be for a few hours!"
"Don't you have patients to tend to, L/n?" Chief Bailey turns the corner and stops in her tracks, eyeing the chart in my arm. I wince and Alex shakes his head.
"She's being a brat about her Mom's stupid gala," Alex explains as he leans against a wall a few feet down from the nurse's station.
"Am not!" I scoff and shove Karev lightly. He chuckles and finally turns to look at me.
"Well whatever it is, it better not he interfering with patient care. Hurry on." Bailey continues down the hallway, making a few stops in a could rooms along the way.
I give Alex a lopsided smile before continuing to pester him. "Alex, please. My mom really wants me to bring someone."
"Yeah, and that someone should be your boyfriend." Alex raises his eyebrow as if he's challenging me.
"Alex, you and I both know I don't have one of those. Believe me, I don't wanna go either, but the gala's tomorrow. Please? I'll do anything."
"Whatever," he turns and begins walking away, but I quickly catch up to him.
"I'll do your laundry for a week. I'll pay your rent for three months. I'll buy you a suit for tomorrow!" I finally intercept him and stand in front of him, hugging the chart in front of my chest and keeping my arms tight around me.
"Fine. But you're telling your mom that we're just friends. None of this 'fake boyfriend' crap." He points an accusing finger at me and I nod happily.
"Ah, thank you, Alex. Send me your measurements tonight so I can order your suit so we can have it ready for tomorrow!" I hug him briskly and hand him the chart curtly, before rushing back to the nurse's station to finish with the rest of the charts.
———
I knock on Meredith's front door and open my red velvet handbag, searching for the small comb I had packed before I left my apartment.
"Who is it?" I hear Meredith shout from inside.
"Your favorite nurse!" I yell cheerfully. I straighten my dress, it's black with small red roses trailing around the skirt.
A few seconds later, Meredith opens the door and looks me up and down. "Hm, I don't think so..." I scoff and smile, she giggles at her joke and steps aside. "He's figuring out his tie, maybe you should help him. Upstairs bathroom."
I walk in and thank her before making my way up the wooden stairs and to the upstairs bathroom. I knock on the door before entering and swing the door open. "I'm here!"
Alex whirls around from looking at himself in the sink mirror and lets his tie rest on his shoulders. "Jesus Christ, knock much?" He grabs the black fabric from his shoulders and holds it out to me. I leave the bathroom door open a few inches and take the undone tie from his hands.
"Uh, I did knock, Karev. Maybe you're just deaf." I drape the tie around his neck and begin.
"Whatever. Anyway, what time are we heading out of there?"
I pull back, having finished tieing his tie, and gasp, hitting him on the shoulder softly. "We haven't even left for the gala yet and you already wanna leave!"
He chuckles and I smile. Alex turns around to look at himself in the mirror once more. He tries shifting his tie around and I reach my arms over his shoulders to fix it for him.
"Quit it, I wanna do it..."
"It looks fine, Karev, calm down." I scoff and lightly slap his hands away from his tie. "So, you ready to go?" I ask, moving beside him and looking at him through the mirror.
He lifts his chin and turns his head from side to side before nodding and looking back at me through the mirror. "Yeah, let's get this over with, I guess."
———
The valet takes my car keys, tipping his head to Alex and me before rounding the front of the car and sitting in the driver's seat.
Alex and I walk up and gawk at the size of the venue. The building is about 5 stories tall and looks large enough to host a carnival and then some. Freshly-cut bushes line the front walls by the large double doors, and leading up to those doors is a mini red carpet. Two men guard the door, while another waits and is taking the names of who is arriving, he stands at a pedestal holding a pen and clipboard.
While marveling at the sight of spotlights dancing along the outside walls, I feel Alex's hand slip into mine. I take a deep breath, It's just the lights, it's just the lights.
Alex nudges me with his elbow, letting go of my hand, making it seem like an accident. "You ready to go in? You've been staring at the stars for a few minutes."
I don't bother correcting him and just nod, looking down at my feet and smoothening out my dress. Others walk past us, mostly couples my mom's age and younger, business partners, former models, employees. All are in their elegant attire, chatting away and it makes me feel small, insignificant.
Alex hooks my arm into his and I smirk slightly as we walk in together. After passing through the security, Alex and I make our way inside and the scenery is just as bright and fancy what was outside.
Another red carpet is lined up, but it instead leads to a large ice sculpture in the center of the building, with three more on the sides of it. Mini chandeliers hang over a few of the tables with the largest at the end of the hall, hanging over the large stage. Tables that seat 8 are sprawled around the venue, around 50 to 70 of them, covered in white table cloth and fixed with a wine glass, plates, utensils, and napkins.
"Oh, shit. This is a gala." I hear Alex mutter under his breath.
"You bet'cha. Crap, I need to find my mom." I bite the inside of my cheek and stand on my tippy-toes for a bit, looking around the large room as we continue to walk in.
"Look at that sculpture, how is it not melting?" Alex continues to marvel at the many exclusive items inside the vicinity while I scour the room for my mom.
"Y/n! Y/n, darling! Over here, honey!" I could hear my mom's voice from across the building. I spot her past the sculpture and right by the stage.
"Okay, Alex, you're gonna stay quiet and only talk when spoken to. If not, we'll be talking for a while and this gala will never end. You understand?"
"Loud and clear, captain." Alex sneers and I elbow him in the side. He crumbles over for a split second and groans before standing up straight again.
I walk up to my mom and smile, my arm still looped in Alex's.
"Y/n, I'm so glad you made it. And who's this?" My mom asks, eyeing Alex up and down.
"Oh this is Alex, my be–"
"–Boyfriend. Nice to finally meet you, Ms. L/n." Alex smiles shortly and shakes my mom's hand.
Boyfriend?
"Boyfriend? You never mentioned anything about a boyfriend, Y/n?" My mom questions, raising an eyebrow and looking me in the eye.
"Well... I was..." I look from her to Alex and bite my lip. "You see, I was going to, but I've just been so busy, y'know, at the hospital." I exaggerate to try changing the subject. I can feel my face going warm and my hands becoming sweaty.
"Okay, okay. I guess it's valid enough. I'm glad you could make it, we missed you at the last one." My mom pouts and rubs my arm, giving it a squeeze before pulling back. "Well, going to go get a drink. Would either of you like something?"
"No ma'am, but thank you." Alex smiles and shakes his head. My eyes almost widen in shock, but I keep my composure.
"Alright, well, I'll be with Ricky and Delilah by the stage if you guys need me. Have fun you two!" She waves a good-bye and makes her way back to the large stage, weaving her way through small crowds of people.
I wait a few seconds before turning to look up at Alex with wide eyes and my jaw dropped. "Why would you do that? Now she's gonna keep asking me questions about you all night!"
"Don't worry about it, just follow my lead, okay?"
"You're supposed to be following my lead! What happened to 'Loud and clear, captain'?"
Alex shrugs nonchalantly, "I got bored."
"You got- You know what, never mind. We just have to get through the first few hours, and then we can sneak out of here."
———
I stumble with Alex at my side into the unisex bathroom. I pull us both inside and lock the door.
"Alex, what happened to Following. My. Lead?" I pinch the bridge of my nose and look down, my back against the brown door.
"'Your lead' was about to get us busted. You should be thanking me! I just helped convince your mom you aren't a lonely loser who can't get a guy." He smirks and crosses his arms in front of his chest.
The few glasses of wine make me push him back harder than I intended, which makes him hit the restroom sink on his backside. He groans and rubs his side, probably where the sink jabbed him.
"Hey! No need to get violent! It's the truth!" He jokes, moving off the sink and taking steps toward me.
I laugh loudly and he covers my mouth, pushing me up against the door. "Shush! They're gonna think there's a comedy show in here." Alex whispers, slowly removing his hand from my lips, but not his eyes.
I bite my lip to keep myself from laughing and stare into his eyes, though he doesn't stare back into mine. I notice his hands have moved down to my waist and his fingers are slowly tapping at my dress. He looks up to my eyes, then down to my lips and I nod. Alex kisses me harshly, squeezing my waist as I tug at his dress suit.
We can taste the alcohol on each other's lips, but it doesn't stop either of us.
I can only think of how badly I've wanted this. To be able to kiss Alex Karev without the fear of him not wanting me back. Now that it's happening, I'm praying to God to make it last forever.
Alex moves one hand to my neck, the other on the back of my thigh. He lifts me up and holds me steady, my hands are in his hair and my legs are wrapped around his waist.
We continue making out for a few more seconds before I pull back. "What about 'just friends'?"
"Screw 'just friends'." Alex kisses me again, rougher. He takes a few steps and sits me on the bathroom sink, taking off his suit jacket.
We continue making out until we aren't "just friends" anymore.

Date Nights 2

Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader
Warnings: NSFW, 18+, Smut

Tumblr media
“That went well.” Pepper sighed once the two of you were in the elevator alone. “I was concerned they would change their mind since Tony, well, blew up the roof garden last time.”
“He didn’t blow the WHOLE thing, just a marble urn.” You fought the smile. Pepper’s charity projects were one of the more fun parts of your gig as her PA. “You knew they wouldn’t say no.”
“I suppose.” She was reading something on her phone. “We’re good for the day. I’ve got to head into the office.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah,” She smiled just as the elevators from the Patron’s Lounge opened on the Sculpture exhibit. “Enjoy the museum.”
“Huh?” You looked up to see Steve leaning against the wall behind the people waiting for the elevator. He grinned at you from under his old baseball cap. “Okay. See ya, Pep.”
Steve’s smile spread as you clasped your hands behind your back, swaying your hips as you playfully sauntered over to him. “That’s a great dress.”
It was new, something you bought to celebrate spring returning. Three-quarter sleeved, tighter at the waist with full, knee-length skirt, it was conservative enough for work. However, the cornflower blue behind spring florals and the buttons running the whole length of the front made it light and flirty. It complimented you well, and you knew it.
“Glad you like it.” You smirked. “What are you doing here? I thought you were up at the Compound.”
He held up a little strip of paper, making a show of reading it. “Take time to appreciate something beautiful.” He looked around the halls of the Met Museum. “Seems like the right spot.”
“You’re adorable.” A giggle escaped.
He pushed off the wall, spinning on his toe and holding out his arm. You took it, happily swinging your small handbag. “Do you care if we head down to the American Art wing first?”
“Wherever you want.” You looked up. “How long have you planned this?”
“Since, ah, breakfast.” He chuckled. “My afternoon opened up and Tony couldn’t shut up about how Pepper kept making him promise not to wreck the next place she found for the benefit party.”
You pulled him behind a large marble statue. Scowling at him, but not seriously. “Did you purposely dig out that slip? That’s not the way it’s supposed to work.”
His hands rested on your hips, pulling you closer. Steve fought to not smile. “No. I just grabbed one.” Your eyes narrowed. He grinned, leaning closer covering your lips with his in a chaste kiss. “I swear. But there’s several that would have worked, if it had been something else we’d do it. I’m not cheating.”
You tried to be stern, until he whined and pulled you closer to kiss your face, your ear, the side of your neck. Giggling, your arms wrapped around him. Steve usually wasn’t one for PDA’s. You weren’t complaining. “Fine. I believe you.”
He laughed, low and privately, as he wrapped his arm around you. “As you should.” Steve began to lead you back through the galleries. “It’s been a while since I’ve been in the Met.” He paused, staring at the enormous screen among the medieval sculptures of religious figures. He guided you to the side.
You followed, admiring the work and enjoying the quiet. The museum was not very busy. In fact, the only two other people in the gallery room you were in slowly made their way out. Steve’s hand drifted from your back to take a firm hand hold of your ass.
Even as you shot him a look, Steve grinned. He stepped behind you, wrapping his arms around you. Hot breath tickled your ear. “So, these buttons could be, ah, convenient.”
His teeth nipped your neck, sending a shiver all the way down your body. His fingers deftly unfastened two buttons just below your hips, and he slipped his hand in your dress to cup your mound. “Steve!” You hissed.
“Shh, Sweetheart. No one’s here.” His tongue playfully danced over your neck.
“Cameras.”
“Not at this angle.” He chuckled. “Don’t move.”
You felt his fingers slip beneath the silk of your panties. You sunk your back deeper into his chest with a whine.
“Mmm, so wet for me.” He purred. You shivered.
Suddenly, Steve stood up straight and efficiently rebuttoned your dress, leaving you panting. The sound of footsteps broke through your fogged brain. Leaning into his chest, you looked up into his mischievous blue eyes. “That was not fair.”
He smiled, licking his fingers slowly. “Oh, we’re just getting started.”
“Oh my god!” You felt your face flush.
He chuckled. “You are so beautiful when you blush.” You pressed your forehead into his strong chest, torn between wanting to smack him and wanting to climb him like a tree. You noticed you weren’t the only one riled by his little stunt, so you snuggled closer to rub yourself against the hardness in his jeans. Steve sucked in a breath, “Damn, woman.”
It was your turn to chuckle. You turned fake innocent eyes on him. “What?”
He laughed, biting it back as it drew the attention of the people who’d joined you in the gallery. Steve’s arm wrapped around you again as he led you through the exhibit, and yet kept you both away from the others. More people milled around the next room. Still, Steve leaned close to your ear. “I can taste you on my tongue. I want more.”
Steve walked you through room after room of beautiful paintings, commenting on the subjects or the style. He watched the others, stealing opportunities to steal kisses, to fill his palm with the swell of your breast, and to whisper filthy promises in your ear.
Eventually, he held you pinned against the wall in a little alcove by a service door. One hand gripped your hip, the other cupped your breast, while he pressed his thigh between your legs. Steve’s deep timber sent heat flowing to your core. “I want to hike this skirt up and bury my face in your sweet pussy.”
Your hands clung to his shoulders beneath his light jacket, whispering into his neck. “Fuck, Steve.” You ground against his denim clad thigh. “I need you.”
“Hold tight, Sweetheart.” His hand cupped the back of your neck. Steve froze. Someone walked by, not noticing your entangled bodied. He released a breath, hot over your skin. “Can’t wait.”
Steve took your hand in his and purposefully marched through the museum. You trailed a little behind, having to take two steps to every one of his long strides. A few people glanced your way, but you didn’t bother to notice their reaction. He pulled his keys out of his pocket even before you made it to the Great Hall. Damn it, why did the parking garage have to be at the other end of the building?
He blew past the elevators and went for the stairs. As soon as the door closed, Steve pulled you close, crashing his mouth to yours in a desperate kiss full of tongue and teeth. He growled, pulling you tight against him, letting you feel how hard and ready he was. You moaned as he lifted you off your feet.
“Come on.” Steve set you down, and you both rushed down the stairs to the parking garage. His SUV was parked in a dark corner of the garage. Steve opened the door for you, but before you could slide in he pulled you to him. Mouth hot and wet, kiss heated and desperate, he pulled at you. He bunched your skirt up in his fist until you felt his bare hands on your ass.
“Need you.” Your voice shook. He tore you panties, fingers sinking into your wetness. You gasped. “Oh, fuck.”
“Yes.” Steve growled, finger pumping against your wall perfectly, knowing your body so well. Wet, sloppy, his fingers pumped. He made you shake. One of your legs came up on the running board, spreading your legs wider for him. When you began to quiver, Steve’s other hand grasped the back of your neck and nipped at the spot on your throat that sent you over the edge.
Biting back a moan, you came over his hand, shaking and grasping his shoulders. Steve unbuckled his belt and you pulled at his jeans until your hand wrapped around his hard cock. He groaned as you stroked him. “I need to be in you, Sweetheart.” Steve pulled your leg over his hip. “Gotta fuck you now.”
A breath exploded out of your body as he plunged into you with one deep thrust. Steve pulled back, slow. You whined. He gripped your ass in one hand, protect your head with other and lifted you against the side of the SUV. Hips snapping hard and fast, Steve pressed his face into your neck. You just held on.
Tension coiled. You moaned. Steve breathed heavy in your ear, “Quiet, love. Ah, fuck. Shhh.”
You bit your lip hard. Fingers pulled on Steve’s hair. He growled, fucking you harder. You practically cried. “I’m gonna come. Steve, oh shit.”
His fingers dug into your ass hard. You bit down on his shoulder, holding back a scream as you came apart. Steve grunted holding you to him tight, burying deep, emptying himself. You clung to him, panting.
A small giggle started, but bloomed into a wicked laugh.
Steve moaned at the way it felt. “What’s so funny?”
“I can’t believe we fucked in the public parking garage?” You giggled in his ear.
He kissed you deep, smiling against your mouth. “You’re just a bad influence on me.”
“Me?” You laughed. “You started it.”
“Well, I’ll have to make it up to you.” Steve lowered you to the ground. You pouted at the loss of his touch, of his weight in you. You could feel the slick of your sex left behind. “Let’s get back to my place. How does a hot bath and dinner in bed sound?”
“Amazing.” You grinned.
He covered your mouth with his one more time before he made sure you were settled in to the passenger seat before running around the driver’s seat. He caught your staring, studying his gorgeous face, lips full and pink. “What?”
“Just taking time to appreciate something beautiful.” You rested your head back. He smiled, bright and loving.

Monday Fairytale
“Shit, I’m short.”
Y/N glanced at the cashier of the bagel truck with a wry smile with just slightest hint of reassurance that she was in fact trying her best to not claw through her handbag just to make up the remaining fifty cents.
Fifty cents. That was how much she was short of. She felt every single penny wrap around her neck in a godforsaken noose— more so for holding up the line than not popping by the ATM to have cash on her.
“Ma’am, if you could just—“
“I got it, I got it,” she frantically replied, using up all of her pre-caffeinated sanity to sound composed even as the contents of her wallet screamed in desolation. “Just give me a second, I’m so sorry.”
“Lady, just step to the side,” a nasally complaint from certainly the man behind her— one that accompanied a scowl, she was sure— leered around her. Y/N would usually just shrug off the attitude. She lives in a big city. Absolutely no one has the time to be nice or patient, but she was panicking.
Y/N dreaded the thought that fifty cents might be one of the few things she would ever ask any figure at all pertaining a higher power. She had no time to beat any other rush hour breakfast line except this one.
“No, miss,” a voice embodying the euphoria that overtakes your forehead after a good painkiller replaced the commotion of impatient customers. “I insist. It happens, I’m happy to cover this for you.”
Y/N stepped to the side almost immediately just so she could have the foot space to turn around in pure amazement at the modern day angel who had just stepped in to declare his menial—but life-changing— philantrophy.
Before she could even utter a word of gratefulness, it seemed the cashier shared in her shock as the sharply dressed man next to her handed over a sizable stack of notes.
Gods above and devils below— he was stratospherically handsome.
Another moment of panic had set in as Y/N feared that she was in a dream and that she could be any way later than she already was for her meeting. She had seen her fair share of happiness and tragedies in this ancient metropolis, but handsome men in expensive office attire were strictly reserved for movies.
His medium grey shirt adorned each detail of his uncannily perfect upper body as if the tailor had a marble sculpture of the man to work off from. His stature was tied together beautifully with pants of a slightly darker shade that Y/N would not have been able to pin on a spectrum and a belt of which she had no doubt the morning sunlight must have drawn inspiration from.
“Hey, pal,” the same nasally voice shredded her momentary day dream, and she was now able to see that it in fact came from the scoundrel behind the subject of her Monday bliss— which in theory sounded oddly paradoxical. “I appreciate the chivalry but—“
“This should cover everyone, right?” The gentleman continued, politely swatting away the interruption like a pesky fly on a hot summer day. “Just give me that one over there. I’m good with that.”
Y/N hoped that he wouldn’t notice at all that she was still in pure awe at his abnormal generosity. The bagel line that extended close to the entrance of the apartment building nearby went from being annoyed at her incompetence to otherworldly charmed by this knight in Hugo Boss shining armor.
She couldn’t have seen the man politely handing over her order the next second as he excused himself from the line. Y/N could see that the cashier was still trailing her eyes in shock at the abnormality of wealth distribution on a godforsaken Monday morning.
“And this is yours, I believe,” the handsome man joked. Y/N chuckled softly as she took the paper bag from his hands and she could swear back and forth that he was magnetic. “Don’t worry about that guy. I have to get going now, though. Have a nice day.”
Y/N could have sworn he lingered his gaze on her just a little longer. It seemed that her manners had gone silent, but before she could part her lips just enough to say thank you— since a situation involving her slamming him against the lamp post in an impromptu makeout session wasn’t appropriate— he disappeared with one last smile into his chauffeured black Benz.
Y/N walked in pure awe towards her office building for the next few blocks as she both tried to demolish her meal without smiling too hard. This had to have been a fever dream or just that one instance in life when the cinematic universe bleeds over for corporate hamsters like her to feel less awful about their glass office prisons.
She hadn’t noticed that she was still smiling ear to ear until her manager, forcibly called Bang P.D of his own coercion and no one else’s, stopped her in her tracks.
“What the hell are you so chirpy about, sunshine?” He snapped, lumping a stack of paperwork right on her desk. The coffee in her hand would have met the floor had she not resumed her usual Monday dread.
“Nothing,” Y/N muttered, shoveling the stacks to her end of the table. “Just in a good mood.”
“Hopefully that carries on in the meeting later,” he scoffed, turning his heel to exit her office. “If you don’t get Kim Seokjung to sign on with us, you can get acquainted with the water cooler again.”
Monday morning was never properly settled without an empty threat from Bang P.D. Y/N was almost grateful that her fairytale bliss was disappearing. Smiles are rarely ever genuine in corporate and she hated to kid herself.
Y/N was never going to see this guy again. He probably had a woman waiting for him to be a million times more chivalrous to that he had to rush to see. She was just a lucky commoner caught in the threads of his charming web.
She had underestimated the bliss, really. It trailed her to the meeting room shortly after and the mile high view of the park and skyscrapers below only heightened her little euphoria. The rich— especially the handsome bunch— really do know how to capture the commoners by the heartstrings, it seems.
“Wipe that glee off your face or Bang P.D will do it with his forced overtime, Y/N,” Nayeon, her co-worker and the closest concept she has to a friend in this lonely city, pinched her gently. “Seriously, some of us are miserable. Kim Seokjung is a dickhead and if he cancels today, it will be the third time.”
“Someone paid for my bagel,” Y/N whined, glancing at Nayeon with a small smile. “And for everyone else in line as well.”
“Crack? Is that what you do, Y/N?” Nayeon hushed, shooting her an affectionate yet snarly glare. “That literally never happens.”
“I’m telling you it did,” Y/N insisted, keeping her expressions as complacent as possible as her colleagues began to take their seats. “Though remind me to never go to Riley’s again. What kind of food truck doesn’t take cards these days? After a pandemic too.”
“One that actually makes good food, dumbass,” Nayeon retorted, shaking her head softly at her friend. “You got lucky this time.”
“Yeah, well. I’m hoping the good karma carries on so Bang P.D doesn’t chain you and me all week for fucking this deal up.”
“Way to go. Keep your spirits alive, Y/N. You can do that for a bagel but not a deal that could help you move out of that prehistoric relic.”
“My place is exceptionally tasteful. Excuse you!”
“By that you mean derelict and musky— and not the good kind! You just willingly walk up five stairs. Couldn’t be me.”
The girls laughed among themselves for the few seconds of fleeting happiness they were allowed. Nayeon was right. If Kim Seokjung bails and chooses another PR firm for his book tour, Y/N would for sure become acquainted with the water cooler and the staff room dish rack. She was the one who brought him on to try and make a name for herself, but it seemed she had not picked the right old money know it all with an out of touch book and too much dough to blow.
“Look alive, ladies,” Bang P.D snapped his fingers towards them. Y/N had gotten over the disrespectful threshold. She wasn’t a human in his eyes anyway. “He bailed again. His brother is filling in.”
And neither Y/N or Nayeon knew. The girls turned to face each other in pure panic as they had not been notified prior. The fear in their eyes seemed to inquire which of their incompetence allowed for this to happen.
“Chill,” Bang P.D continued. “I didn’t know either. He literally called in just this morning. I’m just ready to wrap this over with. Kim Seokjung could send his damn poodle at this point.”
“I’m sorry to disappoint, then.”
All the heads in the room collectively whipped around to behold the owner of the apologetic statement. Y/N gulped as her eyes widened like saucers at the sight of the handsome man who took care of the bagel rotting in her stomach.
“No fucking way,” she thought to herself, the realization blaring in her eardrums.
Kim Seokjung had a brother and he was the man who gave the cashier at a bagel truck a stack just to make time move faster for him. Kim Seokjung had a brother who was punctual and funny.
“Tiki, his poodle, would make a better co-signer than me, but I was told you needed a human,” he continued.
A soft laughter roared through the room, and Y/N giggled to herself simply because she had never seen Bang P.D panic before.
So much so that she almost didn’t take notice of the handsome man locking his gaze with her briefly— as if he too was pleasantly surprised to see her again. She didn’t know if she was just adamant to get it all over with, but she held his gaze long enough to whisper a soft thank-you-for-this-morning to the multimillionaire bagel philanthropist north of her seat.
He shook his head as if his gesture was just so normal in his routine, and Y/N swore he kept his eyes on her long enough to ignite just a faint hue of blush on her cheeks.
Nayeon swiveled her focus back and forth from her and the handsome man. Y/N knew that she must have figured out the whole ordeal because she slumped in her chair and rolled her eyes with a smile.
“I’m Kim Seokjin,” the handsome man gave a name to his otherworldly existence. “You probably haven’t seen me around at all because I like to sort of manage in the background, but I would just like to apologize for my brother’s previous tardiness. Truly I’ve tried all my life and still can’t contain it, so I will fully sign once and for all today. The proposal is excellent. May I know who initiated it?”
“She did,” Nayeon perked, directing his gaze yet again towards Y/N. “All of it. Her name is Y/N.”
Bang P.D looked both dejected and furious that he even pinned all of the responsibility on her. Y/N could only manage a small smile as she nodded and affirmed her work.
“Very well, then,” Seokjin nodded, uncapping his fountain pen as she glanced at her for every dotted line he glided his name across. “Am I able to discuss more about the terms with you after this meeting, Y/N?”
“She would love to,” Nayeon interjected once again, to both the dismay and gratefulness of Y/N of course. “In fact I think she could benefit from someone who listens. She doesn’t get much of that around here. Hah.”
Hah. Nayeon made sure to always end every valid observation as a joke as nobody else in the office understood her brand of snarky humor as well as Y/N.
Y/N was simply just overwhelmed with relief that her gamble had paid off in the best way possible that it was even hard to accept so much satisfaction with her work. It didn’t come from Bang P.D and she wws all too grateful for that.
“She’s right,” Y/N finally spoke. “I could go over the clauses after.”
Y/N could feel Nayeon’s deadpan that’s-it from beside her. Y/N wasn’t as brave as Nayeon. She wasn’t some old money graduate who could treat this job like a past time and get away with so many snarky remarks. Even in the face of a literal old money angel, she had to be professional.
“Okay, well,” Seokjin dropped the pen back into his shirt pocket. “Meeting adjourned now, yes? I apologize once again. If not me then I’ll make sure my brother enjoys your consideration.”
The staff could not wait to wrap up their supplies upon the dismissal, and Bang P.D practically pulled Seokjin up by his shoulders just for a handshake. Nayeon had joined the rest of the crowd as they shuffled out of the office, and once Y/N could catch that heart fluttering gaze of his again, she mouthed she would be right in her office whenever Bang P.D was done with his overwhelming gratefulness.
Seokjin knocked on the glass in the same manner a confident yet slightly timid schoolboy would on his way to make an impression with his crush. Y/N was sure he had swindled many like her before, but there was an air of genuine intent surrounding him as he made his way to sit in front of her.
“I hope you had a warm welcome,” Y/N began, glancing over to the side for a split second to see Nayeon looming over with a coffee mug in her hand and an encouraging brow raise.
“I sure did,” Seokjin replied, his hands individually and politely resting on the arm rests. “It’s not everyday I try and help a beautiful woman and I see her later with a manager that would have liked me to be a poodle.”
“Well,” Y/N continued. “It’s not everyday I meet a bagel enthusiast somewhat bent that I wrote an astounding PR proposal. So much so he has to see me alone.”
Seokjin shook his hand and still so politely laughed at her professional dismissiveness. If he was marvelously gorgeous at ground level, he was hard to not melt at the sight of on the 60th floor. Y/N had no idea Kim Seokjung had more to offer than tardiness. She was entirely too grareful he never showed up.
“I am quite serious about that. Thank you for seeing the potential so many others turned down. I know he’s my brother and I’m almost always inclined to be biased, but with you and your team on our side I think I will perhaps sleep better.”
“Why is that so?”
“He’s not exactly easy to make likable. I don’t like him most days.”
“I have a strong bias and inclination that you are the opposite most days, Mr Kim.”
“Most days, Miss Y/N?”
And if Nayeon had instilled anything in her at all, it all boiled down to this next tongue-in-cheek catch.
“All of them if you’d like to hear that.”
Seokjin clasped his hands together gently and eagerly leaned forward as if there was no one on earth he would rather speak to but her.
“And would it be formal of me to formally invite you for dinner with me tonight whenever you and I can meet as Jin and Y/N?”
“I—,” Y/N was struggling to meet his eyes as confidently as she had been prior to this romantic proposition. She wanted badly to say yes, of course, but Y/N was never someone who approached flirtation with her brain. It was always with her issues, and she could feel his warm gaze dropping ever so slightly at her clear hesitation. She did not want him to think he was rejected, but she had herself to think of first.
It wasn’t entirely rushed that he had signed the proposal so quick. Her firm had been delayed a few times that everyone on the team, including the janitor, could recite the clauses by heart. Nayeon and her had a firm plan to approach everything. She was well within her professional competence and his interest in her came out of a kind curiosity than forcible persuasion.
Her work was very, very unlikely to be interrupted. Seokjin approved of the terms and expressed his satisfaction prior to knowing that it was her who drafted it. He really was unequivocally interested in her for her and whatever enticing demeanor she radiated from the bagel instance until now.
So why was she hesitating so much? Even if all societal connotations were eliminated, it would not be so abnormal for her to just say yes.
“Y/N, you know exactly why,” the voice in her head interrupted, causing her eager smile to hang onto her hesitation just a little longer.
She had seen many hopeful interns and young professionals walk to their cubicles looking dreary and defeated beyond just corporate dread too many times. She and Nayeon have had to push past the lines at the clubs and rescue one too many dreamy-eyed youngbloods trying to fix their broken hearts by killing their livers.
However, it seemed that Nayeon in this current moment had every intention to murder Y/N in broad daylight if she didn’t agree. She had figured out the situation from meters away and threw a deathly, coercive scowl towards Y/N as her claws sunk unintentionally into the forearm of an unsuspecting male intern.
“I will kill you,” Nayeon mouthed, scrunching her lips as she urged Y/N to agree— a feat Nayeon had never shown before due to her unassailable distaste for the male species.
But Nayeon was from the same old money circle as Seokjin’s. She had to have known a few things Y/N could never grasp.
Even more simple than all of this mental gymnastics— her heart tugged at the sight of him. He was a hopeful boy shooting his shot at a girl he was interested in.
“Well...” Y/N began, relaxing her shoulders as she pushed her chair further. “I work very hard so I most likely won’t be too cute when I get off, but does 8pm work for you?
“8pm has never worked better,” Seokjin sighed in relief as if he had been hanging onto every breath that she drew. “Please come as you are. I’ll be happy to see you however.”
The content on his face was paramount. The kind of happiness for someone who anticipated a rejection but was grateful the universe ended up on their side. Y/N wondered if a man Seokjin ever got rejected before, and if he has then it had to have surely been someone who eclipsed her in terms of... well, literally everything.
This led her to a train of doubt Nayeon had taught her not to have. Why was Seokjin even interested in her? And why in god’s name can she not put a finger on where she had seen him before? He looked far too familiar and it was an observation she had not deduced prior.
If all rich and handsome men shared the same features, Y/N thought Seokjin had the créme de la créme.
Y/N hadn’t noticed that he seemed to have snapped out of his own daze of being entranced with her, much to her own surprise. He uncapped that marvelous fountain pen again and handed it over to her alongside his business card.
“Please give me your number,” he requested, looking once again nervous and Y/N once again wondered why. “I want to let you know I’m looking forward to seeing you.”
Y/N couldn’t help but relax her shoulders and laugh endearingly at his wonderfully timid disposition. She took the pen from his hands and touted quietly to herself that her number had never looked more beautifully written. Seokjin took his business card from her and gently put it back into his suit pocket alongside the pen.
“I wish I could look at you longer, Y/N,” he spoke softly, his shoulders hunched eagerly forward in the same manner as when he asked her out. “But I’m horrifically late for my next meeting. I’ll pick you up in the lobby at 8pm.”
“You best get going then!” Y/N blurted, not really wanting him to leave— if at all— but rather out of worry that she might be a minor inconvenience. Even if the younger brother of the richest family in Seoul had just asked her out.
Seokjin dropped his smile ever so slightly at her accidental dismissal, and Y/N shook her head like she had never wanted anyone to think otherwise so badly.
“No, no,” she insisted, chuckling softly at her own insolence. “I mean, I can’t wait to see you as well. I usually don’t agree often if at all, but the pandemic is over. Might as well take a chance, right?”
Y/N could see that Nayeon’s jaw had dropped in pure shock at what had just exited her lips. It was as if she could detect the curtness of her words from across the office. Call it a best friend’s intuition.
“Oh, if she’s not gonna kill me, she’ll at least strangle me for this,” Y/N thought to herself, hoping Seokjin at least found her dryness somewhat humorous.
It was if the heavens listened to her because he too started laughing as his gaze lingered on her the whole time he left his seat and walked slowly towards the door.
“I promise I’ll let you know more when I see you again, Y/N,” he wished her well, his smile reaching his eyes as they twinkled towards her. “Until then... have a day as beautiful as you are.”
Before another word could exit her lips, he bowed ever so slightly and left with his bodyguard by his side. She hadn’t even noticed that the guy was there, but she did notice the lingering gaze on Seokjin’s face even as he headed towards the elevator. She could not help but display the same hopefulness to let him know that she too couldn’t wait as well.
When his marvelous stature disappeared in the elevator, Y/N had never wanted to work harder just so the hours could fly fast enough until she could look into those capitative brown eyes again.
What else could have wanted to tell her that it was best saved for later?

Before moving to this house in Flemington, Leah Holt and Oliver Whiteley were living in a one-bedroom warehouse in Melbourne’s CBD.
‘It was a great place, but it didn’t have an outdoor space, and since we were both working from home due to Covid (and newly living together, eeek!), it felt a little claustrophobic,’ says Leah.
In search of a larger home and outdoor space, they ended up in Flemington in mid 2020, where Leah found her dream home complete with high ceilings, beautiful ornate details, and most importantly, a backyard. ‘I just kept walking around saying “I LOVE IT” repeatedly,’ recalls Leah of the inspection.
The home was newly renovated, so all that was needed was Leah’s styling to bring it to life. As the operations and projects manager at Curated Spaces, and owner of vintage furniture studio LH Design Hub, she luckily had access to some amazing pieces – the only challenge was choosing the right ones!
‘I think I am on my 12th set of dining chairs!,’ says Leah. ‘Oliver knows not to get attached to anything, as it will probably be gone in a few weeks.’
Interestingly, this career path is an entirely new direction for Leah, who was working in the higher education sector up to 18 months ago. ‘Creating  LH Design Hub and having the opportunity to sell exclusively via Curated Spaces has been the best decision I have ever made,’ she says.
One element of Leah and Oliver’s decoration that isn’t going anywhere is their growing art collection, including works by Angie Pai and Alexandria Park. They’ve also switched out the rental’s lighting pendants for Shades Launay, and worked hard to transform the backyard.
‘Even though we are renting, I still thought it was important to buy and source pieces that tell a story, and I hope that is evident throughout the house.’
Our backyard has been a real passion project for Oliver… we have our own veggie patch now, and have planted a whole bunch of ferns, hanging baskets and flowers to make it feel romantic and relaxing,’ says Leah.
From the bedroom, to the living room, and the outdoor area, this home now feels like a true reflection of Leah and Oliver. Leah hopes it looks the way it makes them feel – warm, cosy and safe.
‘As soon as we walk through the door, we feel at home and completely comfortable and relaxed,’ she says. ‘We have signed on for another year’s lease and we couldn’t be happier.’

Moda Operandi’s Tatiana Hambro Arader Is Still Dreaming About This *One* Bag
Sometimes I lay restless in the night, wondering about other peoples’ hyper-specific search terms, guarded like sapphires at the Smithsonian. What first editions of books do my contemporaries find worthy of rooting around the Internet for? Whose bedroom will finally feel tied together if they have a Valentine Olivetti typewriter perched on their desk? Who will swear off all other vessels if they can carry their wallet and keys in a Christopher Kane jelly clutch? What else do they find on their journeys down these rabbit holes? My curiosity became so overwhelming, so egregious, so probing, that I caved and just asked.
And aren’t I glad that I did: I heard stories that were the 21st century equivalent of Jack Kerouac’s On The Road—the road, in this case, is the information superhighway—and so we’ll be publishing these ditties as a series over the course of this week. Ruby Redstone was first up in the series, with her tale of tracking down a 2013 pair of Acne Studios glitter boots. Come back tomorrow for more where this came from!

It’s all fun and games and royal waves on Day 1
A post shared by Tatiana Hambro Arader (@tatianahambro) on Feb 9, 2020 at 5:05am PST
Your shopping rabbit hole: The Wonton Boyy bag. Unusual for two reasons. 1. I rarely shop—window or otherwise—for fashion outside of Moda and 2. I am not a “bag girl”—never have been. I will salivate over shoes and then toss on whatever free tote comes my way. But this wasn’t any old Wonton. We met in person (is that what made all the difference?). Seduced by the handsome marble door of the Boyy boutique while strolling around Copenhagen one Fashion Week, I entered. And there she was, sitting pretty on a geometric plinth. Beautifully lit, might I add. I was struck by her nuanced size (carries everything yet folds up to appear pleasantly sculptural, boasts a shoulder and top handle); her very specific hue (a luxuriously swampy shade of olive—this, ladies and gentleman, is what fashion loves to christen a “not-your-average-neutral”), and her velvety, stop-it-she’s-so-deliciously-smooth leather.
Similar BOYY bag color, deep green rather than olive
See All 1
Can you walk me through what going down this rabbit hole entails? I didn’t buy it then, something I regret now. My desire followed me back to Manhattan like a shadow, where, one night sitting on the sofa, I confided in my husband. Prefacing the topic with the words, “So you know how I don’t covet stuff, especially not handbags—(ick)—well, it’s funny, in Copenhagen…” Once reassured it was not exorbitantly expensive, relatively speaking for a designer bag, he smiled and asked to see it (Valentine’s Day was nigh). At that moment, my search began. What followed was weeks of endless scrolling. Groping around for my iPhone in the middle of the night and tugging it from its charger, tyrannizing my Chrome bar with an endless addition of tabs bearing some amalgamation of “Wonton+Boyy+Bag+Olive,” messaging friends in fashion.
From the usual suspects (Moda, Bergorfs, Saks, SSENSE, Matches, NAP…) to The RealReal, The Outnet, and eBay, I swarmed the digital shelves of online retail. I even went through the arduous process of updating my password on Vestiaire Collective to access their search tool. I trawled Google Shopping, leaving no stone unturned, index finger rhythmically tapping the arrow key that points right: next, next, next. Nothing. Not yet defeated, I graduated to Google Images to do it all over again. When that didn’t work, I texted a handbag buyer to ask where the old Boyy stock ends up, and then called and emailed the warehouse. My search yielded plenty of similar options, but not the one. After that, I just stopped looking. Cold turkey.
What ultimately satiates the quest? They say time is a healer. Let’s see…

Versace Women’s Spring-Summer 2020 | Fashion Show
youtube
For the Spring-Summer 2020 Collection, Donatella Versace honors an iconic moment when fashion and culture became a catalyst for technological progress. The exploration of couture techniques and novel materials has always been signature to the Versace runway. Twenty years ago, that spirit of innovation emanated from Milan to the Hollywood red carpet, and ultimately, Silicon Valley.
Debuting in the Spring-Summer 2000 Collection, the Jungle print dress made multiple appearances on the red carpet. At the 2000 Grammy Awards, Jennifer Lopez garnered international attention when she wore the unique runway design. Millions of people took to the internet to see Jennifer in the legendary dress, making it one the most popular search queries for Google at the time. However, the desired results – an image of the star and the gown – were not able to be surfaced on the search page. The epic red-carpet look, and the excitement it created, inspired the team to create Google Images.
“It was amazing! The world had the same reaction: jaw dropping. Today we live in a technological world, but back then, one event prompted the creation of a new tool that now has become part of our lives.” Donatella Versace
To celebrate its 20th anniversary, the Jungle print is reprised on the Versace runway in tropical green and fire orange-pink palettes. Presented in its original version, the palm trees are juxtaposed with different treatments and fabrications. The motif is depicted on metal mesh, embellished with crystals or complemented with tie-dye. Shirts adorned with Jungle details are layered under corset bodices with graphic heart-shaped, heritage necklines. The pattern is also introduced on Squalo sneakers and beaded as a three-dimensional décor on Virtus handbags.
Volume, layering and intricate décolletage cuts redefine the iconic black Versace dress. Drawing inspiration from Atelier creations, sharp geometric lines add character to a series of opening looks in black. Form-fitting silhouettes are paired with gold-tone hardware and delicate lace-up sandals embellished with leather leaf accents. Strong shoulders characterize tailored blazers, coats and crystal-enriched shirts. The sculptured shapes are accentuated by slim waistlines and voluminous skirts creating a strong, feminine figure.
Statement pieces are complemented with innovative tie-dye materials. The pioneering technique is applied to leather, creating a unique marble effect in acid hues. The multi-color pattern is featured on a leather coat and jersey t-shirts boasting the emblematic Medusa logo or Gianni Versace signature. Representing the intersection between the House’s aesthetic and forward-looking approach, tie-dye is fused with classic Prince of Wales on tailored separates. Strappy sandals with a smoked plexiglass heel and micro crystal mesh bags complement runway looks.
This season Versace and Google collaborate to celebrate twenty years of the legendary moment in both fashion and Google history. The amalgamation between technology, classicism and fashion is evident throughout the runway space featuring a Pantheon-inspired ceiling and a bronze palm sculpture surrounded by digital art projections. Created with Google Tilt Brush technology, the artwork portrays the iconic print designed by Donatella Versace. Passionate for constant innovation, the brand’s Chief Creative Officer uses the latest technology – the Google Assistant – to call for the Jungle dress’ appearance on the runway, creating yet another unforgettable, Google-worthy Versace moment. source

Will Instagram Ever ‘Free the Nipple’?
Tumblr media
Photographers have learned to be inventive in evading Instagram’s ban on female nipples. They’ve used paint, glitter, hair and flower petals to obscure them. They’ve covered them up with leaves, cornstarch, a spatula, handbags, shot glasses, strands of bubble gum, and sand. Some have inserted a rectangular black censorship bar. Others have used digital editing tools to blur the nipples or overlay a patch of the model’s skin color to give the impression that she has no nipples at all. These artistic gymnastics are the result of Instagram’s community guidelines, which allow female nipples in paintings and sculptures, but not typically in photography. And they are related to a campaign — #Freethenipple — being waged by artists, activists and celebrities, and playing out on the social media platform itself. These Instagrammers are pushing the boundaries with doctored photographs, as well as posting unadulterated photos that test how far the platform is willing to go in censoring their artwork. It’s a cat-and-mouse game that the cat usually wins, since the cat has access to artificial intelligence and 15,000 people working around the world to review posts and look for banned material.“Censoring photography is invalidating it as an art form,” said Joanne Leah, a Brooklyn-based photographer who estimates that she has about one post removed every month. “Every time something gets censored, it feels like a punch in the gut.”Since Instagram’s ascent as a mainstream, image-centric social media platform, it has effectively turned its users into published photographers. It has also allowed artists, once at the mercy of galleries, to promote their work independently, as long as they abide by certain rules. There are plenty of risqué images allowed on the site. Photos of women in sheer tops — the shape of their nipples exposed — often stay up, as do some with the nipples craftily covered or altered. But bare nipples on a photograph of a woman are off limits, though Instagram says it makes allowances for users who make clear that the display of nudity is meant as a form of protest or to raise awareness for a cause. That’s why photos of mastectomy scarring and breastfeeding are allowed. (Instagram started allowing photos and videos of breastfeeding in 2014 after pressure from activists.)The same rules apply on Facebook, which owns Instagram. In defending its policies, the company emphasizes its vast global reach: 2.4 billion monthly users on Facebook, and over 1 billion on Instagram, both in 100 languages. In an email, Instagram’s head of public policy, Karina Newton, said that the site isn’t trying to “impose its own value judgment on how nipples should be viewed in society.” “We’re trying to reflect the sensitivities of the broad and diverse array of cultures and countries across the world in our policies,” Newton said.Instagram’s rationale for drawing a line between photography and other forms of fine art is that the nipples typically belong to living people, and the site cannot know for sure whether the subjects have given consent. Posting a photo of a marble Aphrodite doesn’t present the same problem for them.Pictures of genitals and “close-ups of fully nude buttocks” are also against the rules, but it’s the explicit exclusion of the female nipple that has drawn the fiercest objections.Rihanna, Miley Cyrus and Chrissy Teigen, who have tens of millions of followers each, have tested the Instagram censors by exposing their nipples in posts that were swiftly taken down by Instagram. But at the forefront of the movement have been artists who have put persistent pressure on Instagram to loosen its restrictions in a way, some of them acknowledge, that would run afoul of social custom. Free the Nipple has been a cause for years, and the hashtag on Instagram now aggregates more than four million posts. Leah, 41, has been communicating directly with representatives from Facebook for about a year and a half about her concerns over how their policy affects artists like her. So the company decided it was time for a meeting.Last month it hosted about two dozen artists and anticensorship activists at its offices in Lower Manhattan for a five-hour discussion with the company about Instagram’s policing of nudity in their work. The company representatives listened, but gave no signs of budging, according to several people who attended. The company told them that it was just keeping within the bounds of social propriety: If you walked down the street in New York, one employee explained, you wouldn’t see exposed female nipples on advertisements. One of those who attended, Micol Hebron, 47, an interdisciplinary artist in Los Angeles (Instagram paid for her travel), snapped a topless selfie outside the building and tried to post it after the meeting. Almost immediately, her Instagram account was shut down.Several years ago, after Facebook took down a topless photo of Hebron from an art exhibition about breast cancer awareness, she created what she calls a male nipple pasty — a circular cutout of a man’s nipple that a woman can copy and can stick on her own nipples. As Hebron’s pasty cleverly pointed out, Instagram’s ban does not extend to male nipples. In the real world, the female breast has had some success on the equal-rights front. In February, a federal appeals court in Denver decided against Fort Collins, Colo., which sought to uphold an ordinance banning women from going topless in public. In New York, a 1992 State Court of Appeals decision established women’s right to go topless in public for noncommercial reasons. But decisions elsewhere have let similar laws stay on the books because, unlike male chests, female chests were considered to be an “erogenous zone.”When it comes to nipples, there are “criteria” to help both human and technological reviewers identify a nipple as male or female, Instagram’s Newton said. The criteria include indicators of the person’s gender, an Instagram spokeswoman said. But Instagram stresses that the system is imperfect. “There are times that we can’t tell — and mistakes may be made,” Newton said.In July, Instagram introduced the option for users to appeal deleted content; before, users could appeal if their account had been deleted but not in response to individual posts having been removed. As the great democratizer of photography, Instagram has opened up a new chapter of art history. From depictions of the nursing Madonna in 14th-century Italy to Frenchwomen lounging in the nude in 16th-century paintings, bare breasts have long been an artistic preoccupation, the gender studies scholar Marilyn Yalom wrote in the 1997 book “A History of the Breast.”“Though breasts still carry an overload of cultural and sexual expectations, many women hope to see the day when their chests do not have to bear such a burden,” Yalom wrote. What is different about the current era of nude art is that women are often the ones wielding the camera or the paintbrush. Mona Kuhn, 49, a Brazilian-born photographer, whose work focuses on the human form and often captures nude figures, has had work exhibited at the Louvre and the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. But on Instagram, she said, she has to hold back what she considers some of her most important pieces.“I cannot promote my work as much as some other person who does landscapes,” she said.Other artists have accepted the reality that they don’t have free rein on such a wildly popular, global platform. “No one forced us to use Instagram,” said John Yuyi, 28, who uses her own body, with nipples obscured, to make popular Instagram posts about human interaction with technology. “They can say, ‘if you don’t like our rules, you can find another social media.’”At Facebook’s meeting, some artists pressed the tech employees on the matter of transgender and nonbinary users posting topless images. Is it still a female nipple if the person no longer considers themselves female? What if their nipples used to be anatomically male, but they transitioned to being a woman?Last year, Rain Dove, a gender-nonconforming model with more than 360,000 Instagram followers, found themselves in a battle with the platform’s censors when they posted topless images with breasts exposed. In one video, they were playing basketball. In another, they were drinking from a gallon of milk, wearing only boxer briefs.Dove, 30, said in an interview that after Instagram took down two of the topless posts, they would repeatedly republish them, writing in the caption that because Dove did not consider themselves female, their nipples weren’t female either. In the caption’s text, Dove threatened to take legal action if Instagram continued to remove their posts, and eventually, the bare-chested images were allowed to stay.“No one’s head exploded,” Dove said. “We’re all going to be fine!”Newton said that if Instagram’s content reviewers have context signaling that a user identifies as a man or nonbinary (for example, if the user states their pronouns), nipple exposure is allowed. And if a transgender woman posts an image of their exposed nipples, Instagram will remove it. But Instagram is not showing any signs of relaxing its general ban on female nipples. So artists have begun to factor that into their work, even as #freethenipple lives on.Amanda Charchian, a commercial and artistic photographer who shoots nudes, often obscures women’s nipples with pinpoints of color or a blurring feature. Charchian, 31, is now working on a series that involves her applying paint to photographs of nude women and architecture, and she said that she feels Instagram’s restrictions creeping into her artistic process.“When there’s a nipple, I think to myself, ‘Should I cover it or not?’” she said. “That’s the infiltration of Instagram censorship on my mind and my creative decision-making.” Source link Read the full article

1.       Natural Products
Olives & Olive Oil
The Greek olive and its virgin oil is considered as one of the best in the world. It is the basis of the Greek and Mediterranean diet. It is a healthy product and medical researchers have proved that it is one of the reasons that Cretans live longer. Olive and olive oil is produced all over Greece.
 Honey
The production of honey is a Greek tradition that dates back to the antiquity. Greece, with its great variety of plants and flowers, produces different tastes of honey. This product is considered as one of the best in the world and the best honey can only be found in mountain villages.
 Wine
Wine was born in Greece and it is a Greek tradition since the antiquity. Wine processing was actually invented in Greece. Today, one can enjoy a great diversity of Greek wines: red, white and rose, sweet or dry. Greece also produces some famous kinds of wine like the Retsina, a white wine which has an accentuated resin taste, and the Mavrodafni, a dark red wine which reminds the Portuguese Porto. For a detailed gallery of Greek wines, see the section of Greek food and wines.
 Alcohol
Ouzo is the most famous Greek alcohol of Greece and its trademark. It is a strong alcohol with the taste of Anis which can be served straight or with water. It is accompanied with little meets (mezedes). Tsipouro reminds the Ouzo but has a stronger taste. Depending of the region, it is also called Raki.
 Vinegar
Greece has a variety of tasty natural vinegar made from wine.
 Herbs
Greece has a great variety of herbs and plants with many virtues: mountain tea, oregano, sage, chamomile, sage, basil, mint, parsley.
 Spices
Greece is also famous for the many spices used in the food: sesame (white sesame also), the cumin, the machlepi and the valuable red saffron.
 Nuts
Greece also produces a large variety of nuts: almonds, pistasamos, dry grapes, sun flowers seeds, melon seeds, hazel-nut, and peanuts.
 2. Manufactured products
Carpets and rugs
Handmade carpets and rugs have been a part of the Greek tradition for centuries. The actual main production areas of rugs can be found around the town of Tripolis, in the Peloponnese, and around the towns of Trikala and Karditsa in Thessaly. Carpets are known since the antiquity, one can even find allusions to them in the mythology. The most important centres of hand-weaving are in Lefkada Island, Anogeia and Metsovo.
Leather
Leather is a specialty in Greece. Many leather items of all qualities can be found in the country: shoes, clothes, sandals, handbags, gloves, hats and more.
 Handicrafts
Many traditional handicrafts can be found in Greece: knotted carpets, embroidered cushion covers, woodwork and much more.
 Jewellery
Jewel is a Greek tradition dated to the antiquity. Many jewellery shops, famous or not, offer a large variety of jewels: golden or silver jewellery or objects to reproductions of ancient jewellery and ornaments. Islands like Santorini Island and Mykonos Island has specialized in jewellery.
  Material
1.     Clothing material in ancient Greece
Primarily consisted of the chiton, peplos, himation, and chlamys. Ancient Greek men and women typically wore two pieces of clothing draped about the body: an undergarment and a cloak. Clothes were customarily homemade out of various lengths of rectangular linen or wool fabric with little cutting or sewing, and secured with ornamental clasps or pins, and a belt, or girdle (zone). Pieces were generally interchangeable between men and women.
 Fabrics
Ancient Greek clothing was made with silk, linen and most often, wool. The production of fabric was a long and tedious process, making ready-made clothing expensive. It was socially accepted that textile making was primarily women's responsibility, and the production of high quality textiles was regarded as an accomplishment for women of high status. Once made, the cloth was rarely cut. The seamless rectangles of fabric were draped on the body in various ways with little sewing involved.
 2.  Sculpture material
Stone and marble
Various uncrystallized limestones were frequently used in the archaic period and here and there even in the fifth century. But white marble, in which Greece abounds, came also early into use, and its immense superiority to limestone for statuary purposes led to the abandonment of the latter. The choicest varieties of marble were the Parian and Pentelic. Both of these were exported to every part of the Greek world.
 Wood
Wood was often, if not exclusively, used for the earliest Greek temple-images, those rude xoana, of which many survived into the historical period, to be regarded with peculiar veneration. We even hear of wooden statues made in the developed period of Greek art. But this was certainly exceptional. Wood plays no part worth mentioning in the fully developed sculpture of Greece, except as it entered into the making of gold and ivory statues or of the cheaper substitutes for these.
 Food
Greek Mezedes
The mezedes (single: mezes) are appetizers, served before or with the main dishes, usually accompanied with ouzo or tsipouro. They come in small plates. It is one of the basic elements of the Greek culture to share food and wine with friends, in a joyful and unhurried environment.
 Tzatziki

Htapodi Small pieces of octopus served either fried with lemon juice or boiled, with olive oil, vinegar and oregano. Feta cheese the famous Greek cheese can also be eaten alone, as a meze, with olive oil and oregano.
 Greek salades
Of course, the most famous is the Greek salad, or else Horiatiki (Village Salad), but there are also many other types of salads and dip sauces.
Horiatiki Salata or Greek salad Also know as "Greek salad", the horiatiki is a mix of fresh tomatoes, olives, cucumber, onions, green pepper, feta cheese, olive oil and oregano.

Greeks have a lot of excellent main dishes and meat is their favorite ingredient.
Moussaka This famous Greek dish has a base made of potatoes topped with eggplants onions, minced beef and bechamel creme.
Pastitsio This is another well-known Greek dish reminding of the Italian Lasagnas. It consists of spaghetti No 2 topped with minced beef, onions, tomato sauce and bechamel sauce.
Paidakia Grilled lamb's ribs served with lemon.
Kokoretsi This is one of the favorite dishes of Greeks. They mostly eat it during Easter. It consists of wrapped and roasted entrails of lamb, served with lemon.
 Soups
Greek soups are succulent and Greeks usually have soups in winter.
Kotossoupa Chicken soup usually with avgolemono (sauce made with eggs and lemon).
Psarossoupa Fish soup with parsley, potatoes and carrots.

 Herbs and spices
Greece is famous for its unique herbs and spices which they use in every Greek dish to add an extra taste and delight the senses. The excellent quality of spices and herbs is due to the long sunshine periods, making the Greek flora particularly rich, producing an incredible variety of the best herbs and spices in the world.
Famous herbs of great quality and easy to find in Greece are the chamomile, the mountain tea, sage, basil, mint, parsley, tilio (lime leaves used as an infusion) and much more. Supreme Greek spices are the sesame (white sesame also), the cumin, the machlepi and the valuable red saffron.
 Greek Wines and alcohol beverages
Tsipouro / Raki
This really strong alcohol looks a bit like ouzo but with a stronger taste of anis. Greeks drink it with ice and sometimes add a bit of water. It is always accompanied with mezedes and good friends. In different parts of Greece, such as Crete, some islands and the northern Greece, people make their own home made Tsipouro, also called Raki (depending of the region) which is really strong.
 Ouzo
This is the most famous Greek alcohol beverage, the trade mark of the country. It is a strong alcohol, drinkable straight with ice or with a bit of water. It is ideal to drink with all kinds of mezedes. The best ouzo is made in Lesvos and the most famous trades are Ouzo Plomariou and Barbayanni.
 Mavrodafni
This sweet wine is made in Patras Peloponnese. It is really thick and dark (almost black) and can be compared to the Portuguese Porto. This strong wine is used for the Holy Communion in the Greek Orthodox Church.
 Retsina
The famous Retsina is a Greek white wine with a particular resin taste. This taste is due to the way of production of this wine: they put the grapes in new cask which have still the wood resin on, giving to the whine that special taste.
 Greek Wines
There is a huge diversity of Greek wines: red, white and rose, sweet or dry.
    Pattern
Various Greek Key names used to describe the Greek Key Pattern include Greek Fret, Greek Key, Labyrinth, Maze, and the Meander Pattern.
The pattern originated from Greek mythology and were symbolic of the labyrinth that imprisoned the Minotaur.
In Greek mythology the Centaur had the torso of a person combined with the body of a horse.
In a time when most people could not write or read, myths were the most effective way to pass knowledge and teach people about moral virtues, cosmology, love, death, forgiveness and everything that is present in our daily lives.
The pattern is often incorporated as a border design around a ring, bracelet surround forming a running ornamental design of repeated symmetrical figures.
In Europe, this pattern was included in the dominant style of architecture during the 18th century. The style of architecture also influenced and was reflected in the jewelry of the time.
Greek Key Pattern & Beach Stones
The Greek Key design isn't only found on jewelry. In the photograph below is a pavement in the streets of Rhodes, made from beach stones, featuring the "meander" Greek key pattern!
Hannes Grobe
This is the work of Hannes Grobe, who kindly permitted me to reproduce this image on Antique Jewelry Investor.
Now, what would the earth look like from space if we were to re-surface all those ugly old black tar roads with Greek Key design cobblestones, like in the streets of Rhodes. Wouldn't that look something from space!
Curved or angular variations of the same key patterns are also in existence. Being very ancient motifs they occur in the earliest farming communities in Anatolia in the six millennium BC and were a major feature design in pottery decoration throughout Neolithic Europe.
Designs based on spiral scrolls, circles, and meandering bands are typical of the art of the Mycenaean civilization on the Greek mainland in the middle of the second millennium BC.
During the Georgian neoclassical movement when Europe was having a revival in classical Greece, the Greek key pattern above all others signified Greek style and taste.
The connection with water persisted into Roman times when the motif was frequently used on mosaic floors in bath houses.
Men's jewelry may also include the key pattern. Jewelry art historians, will know, that throughout the History of Jewelry men have been adorning their bodies with jewelry for as long as women, but for slightly different motives.
Women’s jewelry was generally worn to enhance a woman's  beauty while  in modern times most men have  worn jewelry mainly as a status symbol, badge of rank, or for recognition of achievement. But times are changing and changing fast. This ship is slowly turning around. Gender Appropriate Jewelry?  If it floats your boat - wear it!
Popular motifs on men's contemporary jewelry include the Celtic knot patterns, Greek key designs, Arabic geometric patterns and abstract designs.
