Not to be a downer and this isn't an indictment of people celebrating this, but I remember watching an as-it-happened documentary (my favorite type of documentary tbh) on the fiftieth anniversary of the Moon Landing and then halfway into it the spell it had over me snapped and I just started thinking "What did the people fighting in Vietnam, both sides, think of all this? Where was that 'moment of global unity' everyone has been talking about for the last fifty years that was allegedly during this moment? What about the people slaving away in factories or in fields or prison during this? What about the people who couldn't afford a TV because of rampant wealth inequality? There was so much vitriol in this moment just for people who wanted to be treated equal but I'm told the world as a whole and America in particular had come together."
I love as-it-happened documentaries because I love putting myself in moments that witness history in the making, good or bad, but I couldn't reconcile this idealized version of what I've been told my entire life and the historical truths I knew were going on as Americans landed on the moon

Ways to romanticize sports (fantasy);
Tennis: deflecting fireballs/spells
Marching band: preparing for war
Track: you are That Bitch(compliment) that created marathons (the dude that ran to warn of battle and died)
Volleyball: casting/deflecting spells into enemy territory/ alternatively, releasing catapults into enemy territory
Basketball: gotta get past the guards to kill the evil king (the ball is your weapon)
Dance/Ballet: you are a forest nymph

NOW I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR HS EXPERIENCE! We're you one of the ~popular~ kids, or one of the club kids? We're you an overachiever, a nerd, or did you have an emo stage? I NEED TO KNOW
well jesus lets rewind the clock!!!!!!!!!!!! i was a goth alt girl in middle school, but the homeschooling gap i had before high school shifted my priorities- other than my hair. in high school i had rainbow hair, then bleach blonde, then all the other colors.
i went to a very small private school made up entirely of academic overachievers and bigtime troublemakers. with a student body in the double digits there wasn't really much of a social hierarchy. even the so-called popular kids…. we all knew they wouldn't be top of the food chain at ANY OTHER SCHOOL lmao. we had one sport, and a smattering of vague attempts at clubs that largely dissolved from lack of members.
my first group of friends were sort of quiet nerdy girls, but sophomore year my new bestie transferred in and i got a new social circle (which yeah... caused massive drama bc i was accused of abandoning my friends and like plz i tried to straddle both groups but one of them gave me attitude about my absence every time i was back so can u really blame me for my choice? and i'm still besties with bestie all these years later I REGRET NOTHING). bestie was a metalhead with a forbidden boyfriend, so i ran a lot of parental interference there. i was a beard for one of my friends at his family and church events [leave room for the holy spirit! embedded in my brain for life]. i did theater, traveled for theater showcases, and i was in photography club. i was constantly taking pictures and videos, i was always the girl with a camera in her hand. i didn't work yearbook staff at all but they came to me for pictures lmao. there really wasn't that much going on at school! i did go to junior and senior prom with different rando dates i aggressively avoided at afterparties. i went to parties. my older brother threw parties. my parents never laid down any rules, i could do literally anything i wanted. one time i got home at about 4am to my dads place and i was the first one there. god both my divorced parents entirely independently from each other told me IT'S OKAY IF YOU GET PREGNANT I WON'T BE UPSET!!! i mean thanks i guess??? one of my friends was the school drug dealer and the best part of that was i got a say in who to overcharge. in retrospect what a very strange social cachet. i occasionally fell into lowkey academic rivalries that pushed me to be obsessively ambitious for that one class, but beyond that i wasn't enthusiastic about academics.
i was very artsy! i made costumes for myself and other people. weirdly not for theater at all tho. bestie and i would pass notes and drawings back and forth- we'd do that exquisite corpse game a lot in class. oh god we both flunked spanish 3 junior year and had to come back for summer school for it. that wound up being like..... the best summer tho. and i'll never forget graduation. we had finals that day, a few hours at home then the graduation ceremony, immediately after that we got on the bus to disneyland, were there until 6am, then 2 hours later we were back in the car driving to mexico, and didn't get home til 3 days later. then the next saturday bestie and i were drunk off our asses at a tattoo parlor party and the next morning i was on the plane to oz. what a goddamn nostalgia bomb jesus christ WE CERTAINLY HAD FUN THO WHAT AN ERA. SO GLAD IT'S OVER WILL NEVER GO BACK BUT IT WAS A GOOD TIME

Everyone, as I finish up my master's thesis and prepare for my presentation (which is in less than ten days now), I just wanted to extend my thanks to all of you who are being so patient for updates to The Risen Lamb and the Fallen God. Most of y'all who have been here for a while have known me to put out a oneshot or chapter just about every week, but due to grad school this year being so strenuous, it's no surprise that I haven't had nearly as much time to focus on writing. I've had a bit of an influx of new followers since I started the reboot in November as well, so readers who are new probably don't think my three-weeks-or-so per chapter isn't all that weird, but it's quite a long time for me lmao. I know y'all have told me that you don't mind waiting, but I wanted to say thanks anyway!

Spooky Self-Care
It’s that time of year again—Halloween, when everything gets a little spooky and a lot more fun. But while ghosts and goblins might be lurking around every corner, there’s something scarier that we all face from time to time: burnout and stress. High school can feel like a haunted house, filled with deadlines, exams, and social pressures that can seriously drain your energy.
But fear not! Instead of letting the stress of school and life creep up on you, this Halloween, it’s time to practice some spooky self-care. 🎃 Self-care doesn’t have to be boring or time-consuming—it can be fun, festive, and even Halloween-themed! So grab your favorite cozy blanket and some candy corn, because we’re about to dive into how you can treat yourself right this spooky season.
1. Pumpkin-Spiced Self-Care
Who doesn’t love a little pumpkin spice this time of year? You’ve seen it in lattes, cookies, and even candles. But did you know you can turn that fall flavor into a relaxing self-care routine?
Pumpkin-spiced skincare is a real thing! You can find pumpkin-scented face masks or even DIY one at home using pumpkin puree, honey, and cinnamon. Pumpkins are packed with vitamins A and C, which are great for your skin. So while everyone’s carving their jack-o’-lanterns, you can carve out some time for yourself and treat your skin to a festive spa night. 🧖‍♀️
2. Watch Feel-Good, Not Feel-Fright Movies
Sure, horror movies are all the rage during Halloween, but sometimes watching something too spooky can mess with your mental health, especially if you’re already feeling stressed or anxious. So instead of turning to the usual jump-scare flicks, why not opt for feel-good Halloween classics? Movies like Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, or Casper are just spooky enough to get you into the Halloween spirit, but without leaving you feeling like you need to sleep with the lights on.
Laughter and light-hearted fun can be a great way to unwind after a tough day of school or when you're feeling overwhelmed by all the homework monsters chasing you. 🎬
3. Candy Corn and Chill: Indulge in Sweet Treats
Halloween is the perfect excuse to indulge your sweet tooth! While balance is always important, allowing yourself to enjoy some festive treats can be a simple form of self-care. Bake some Halloween-themed cookies, make caramel apples, or create your own hot chocolate bar with spooky marshmallows and sprinkles.
Food can be comforting, but it’s important to eat mindfully—focus on how it makes you feel, and enjoy the experience rather than just munching through a bag of candy in one sitting. Treating yourself to something sweet is a fun way to show yourself a little love (just be careful not to overdo it, or you might feel like a zombie later!). 🍬
4. Ghosting Stress: Halloween-Themed Journaling
Journaling is one of the best ways to clear out the cobwebs in your mind and process your feelings. For a spooky twist, try a Halloween-themed journaling session. Write about your favorite Halloween memories, or even create your own spooky stories. You could also list the things that “haunt” you—like stress, anxiety, or fears—and then write about how you plan to overcome them.
Seeing your thoughts on paper can make them less intimidating, like unmasking a ghost in a Scooby-Doo episode. Journaling can help you manage your mental health by giving you a space to vent, reflect, and work through your emotions. 📝
5. Cozy Up with Some Witchy Vibes
There’s nothing better than snuggling up on a chilly October night with some candles, a comfy blanket, and maybe a cup of tea (or a pumpkin spice latte!). Setting up a cozy atmosphere can be a great way to practice self-care. Try lighting fall-scented candles, like cinnamon or apple, and curling up with a good book or just listening to some relaxing music.
Taking a break from the digital world and getting lost in a good book or calming playlist can do wonders for your mental health. It’s all about slowing down and creating a peaceful environment where you can recharge your “magic.” ✨
6. Beware of Burnout: Take a Breather
Halloween parties, school events, and hanging out with friends can be a lot of fun—but if you’re already feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to take a step back. You don’t need to be everywhere at once, like a Halloween ghost popping in and out of different parties. Sometimes, the best self-care is simply saying “no” to an invitation and recharging your social battery.
Whether it’s staying in for a quiet night or just taking a break from your usual routine, know that it’s okay to prioritize yourself and your mental health. You don’t need to wear a mask (literal or metaphorical) to impress anyone. 🎭
7. Get Moving with Some Monster Mash
Exercise is a great way to release tension, boost your mood, and shake off stress, but it doesn’t have to be boring. Turn your workout into a Halloween dance party by blasting some spooky hits like “Monster Mash,” “Thriller,” or “Ghostbusters.” Dance like no one’s watching, or try out a Halloween-themed yoga flow (yes, you can find videos for “witchy yoga” online!).
Moving your body helps release endorphins, also known as the “feel-good” chemicals in your brain, which can lift your spirits and leave you feeling more energized. So grab your broomstick, put on your best Halloween playlist, and get moving! 💃
8. Embrace the Dark (But in a Good Way)
While some people fear the dark, there’s something calming about embracing a bit of darkness during Halloween. Dim the lights, light some candles, and practice deep breathing or meditation. Darkness can be soothing and allow you to focus inward, helping you relax and tune out the external world for a bit.
Even 10 minutes of mindfulness or meditation can do wonders for your mental health, especially if you’re feeling like life is as chaotic as a haunted house. Find a quiet corner, let the darkness wrap around you like a cozy blanket, and take a moment to just breathe.
Self-Care Isn’t Scary 👻
Halloween doesn’t have to be all about scares and spooks—it can also be a time to focus on taking care of yourself. Whether you’re pampering yourself with pumpkin-spiced skincare, indulging in your favorite Halloween treats, or dancing to the “Monster Mash,” self-care can be a fun and festive way to boost your mental health.
Just remember: self-care isn’t selfish. It’s a way to recharge your mind, body, and soul so that you can face whatever challenges come your way. So this Halloween, treat yourself to some spooky self-care, and let your inner witch or wizard shine!
Happy Halloween, and don’t forget to take care of yourself—no tricks, all treats! 🎃💀

You know last Friday (23 June) I had to go on a school marathon while I had epic stomach ache and it was 4.5 km uhhh
I think I screamed about
Takao Hiyama from the hit anime Mirai Nikki originally created in 2006 by Sakae Esuno and adapted in 2012 by Studio Asread
Like. At least 5 times. Maybe 10. I'd say like once every 30 minutes.
Tummy hurtie make me delirious. Somehow my throat was not hoarse at all.
Shout out to my two friends who had to hear me scream it every time bc we decided to stick together throughout the marathon.
Oh, dang! I hope your stomachache goes away soon.
Also, I'm surprised no one else heard you scream about Takao during the marathon. I probably would have if I were there.

#vent#don't think i have seasonal depression but i hate the end of the school year being during spring#because then i have to think about the fact that i'm not even close to graduating#it took me 3 years to finish core classes because i kept failing and having to retake some due to procrastination that i feel is controllab#le but probably isn't and i think i have an underlying issue but i don't have a diagnosis. and i don't think i'm getting one anytime soon#because my sister is going to college next school year and our family is going to be short on spending money#and i feel guilty that it feels like im wasting my parent's money#whenever we visit family they always ask when i'm graduating and next year will be my fourth year but i'm not and i feel like a fucking#fool. and yes i see a lot of posts about college positivity and that it's a marathon not a race and that it takes everyone different#amounts of time to graduate but it does nothing if it feels like im wasting it all away over something i can easily control but what if#it's not that easy to control? i need a psychiatrist but the last time i tried to get an appointment they put me on a 6 week wait list that#i never heard from besides one call asking if i still wanted to be on it#and i can't go to my previous doctor anymore because i'm 21 now and have to go to the one my parents use#previous doctor told me i seem fine and didn't have anything wrong with me#and i feel like she's right#but this excessive procrastination didn't start until high school and where did everything go so wrong? why can't i complete school work in#a timely manner anymore? i was able to do it just fine in my first semester but ever since i went on a 2 day vacation it's all been downhil#and i can't seem to recreate the success of getting A's and B's that semester again
