Title: Streets of Clover

Summary: In the wake of Berryshade’s banishment, Brightfur finds herself more lost than ever. Every attempt to bring Ravenwind to justice has failed, and now even StarClan has turned its back on her- what’s left for her to do?

When the mysterious rogue Clover begs for help, Brightfur is plunged into a world of sidewalks, kittypets, and blood feuds. And maybe, just maybe, Ravenwind will finally take things too far.

Excerpt:

She wasn't sure how long she sat there. Time didn't seem to matter anymore; only the blood slowly soaking up her forearms as Clover gasped and wheezed. Brightfur wasn't even certain if she spoke- hoped she did, in fact, hoped she at least said I'm sorry- as the night ticked onwards. The stench of death was overwhelming. Brightfur always assumed it would feel better than this. That she would rise from Ravenwind's corpse like a lion and roar her freedom. All she felt was sick. The poppy seeds were still in her system despite the purge, and sleepiness tugged at her like a siren's song. She considered just letting it happen- sinking her body weight onto Clover's throat and letting nature decide if either of them lived to see morning- but that felt like giving the medicine cat one last win, so she didn't. Ravenwind had taken enough from her. She couldn't have Clover too. "StarClan's kits," someone whispered. No, thought Brightfur, delirious and peeved about it all. Clover's kits.

Surprise! I'm back much sooner than I expected lol. Also, it turns out I was wrong- there's one more chapter in this bad boy. I was originally planning on it being a prologue for the next part, but it'd make the allegiances weird if I did it that way, so we're gonna have a little epilogue type deal instead.

Brightfur has always been embodied by the song "Oh Ana" by Mother Mother. The song helped me create her, edit her, and make her who she is. I always intended to make a chapter titled after that, and this felt like the right time to do it!

a former kittypet, and current medicine cat of thunderclan ! he was only a couple moons of age when he wound up lost in the woods with rubber bands tied around his paws and he couldn’t walk right. he was dehydrated and disoriented and his paws were beginning to bleed and crack from the constant pressure. the regular warriors who found him only scared him more, and only the gentle cooing of medicine cat Goldenstripe and nursing queen Squirrelfur could calm him down and bring him back to strength.

Hello and thank you for the kind words! I think I got an ask about this before, but I might have accidentally deleted it? Whoever sent that in, if you did, my apologies. 

Leafpool’s name was going to be Maplenose, with -nose being a way to celebrate her finding the Moonpool. Likewise, Squirrelflight was to be Cherryfoot, which is closest to her original suffix and also her skill in the Redeux. As for the Redux’s version of the second arc, I talked a little about this here, with some continuation here!

Edit: I forgot to add that their appearances are both tortoiseshells/torbies!

Maplenose thumped her tail against the ground nervously. "Why would medicine cats keep deathberries, anyhow? Can't they seep into other herbs?"

"Only if you keep them together," she replied. Brightfur had no intentions of spilling Ravenwind's little passtime, but it was absolutely part of her decision to show the kits such deadly things. Ravenwind had yet to speak to her since the visit to Slatestar's den, and Brightfur wasn't going to take any chances. At least before I had a fairly good guess on who she would be targeting next. "And we stock them in case of cats who don't want to fight anymore. We also have foxglove."

The queen gave a hearty shudder. "I never knew medicine was so... dark."

Don't get me started! "Now, it's not often that poisons are weaponized, but when they are deathberries are usually the most commonly used. Foxglove and poppy are easy to jumble up, and other plants tend to smell much sharper than these. If something horrible should happen, I want you to know that it's the seed that'll kill you. If you're ever in a situation where someone tries to make you eat them, don't eat the seed."

Hazelkit pawed curiously as the fleshy surface of the berry. His little eyes were squinted. "It's red!"

Chapters are a bit slow-going, but they are coming! The next few are important, and the few after that? Monumental. That's when I'm gonna end this one on Ao3 and set up a third "part" to the story, because there's gonna be a short timeskip. Not long, but like... a month? And it feels right.

Would Cherryfoot and Maplepaw be classified as cinnamon torties?

Going off what I see on google, no. Keep in mind I’m not very good at genetics and I tend to defer to other people when it comes to how cat colours work. I don’t think either of their parents would carry cinnamon, either. They’re both pretty dark (with Cherry having more dark patches than Maple) and look pretty similar.

Red Pearls Fun-Facts!

Hawkflower was originally going to be named Hawkstripe but it felt too close to Bright’s moms name to be comfy so I changed it literally last minute. I have unused drafts calling him Hawkstripe.

I have “special additions” planned for Ravenwind, Willowthorn, and possibly Smithy and Scrap.

Briarspots has been in love with Smokestripe since they were apprentices.

Addershine and Leafleg were good friends as apprentices, but Leafleg’s treatment of Grayfeather caused a huge rift between the two.

Willowthorn has met Smithy

Brackenclaw will be the last of his family to die

Willowthorn had a very brief crush on Brackenclaw when he was first assigned to her, but that quickly gave way to respect. To this day she wants to impress him.

Maplenose suffers from gigantism
