I’m in love with autumn.

My mother used to say “Never say never.” Like so many other lessons, this took a long time to learn. On June 1st, my old band, Mother Redcap, will release a new single. Yep. This is all new music. The song is called “Hurricane Beach.” It was recorded by the original members of the band that was known as “Rough Mix” who released a single called “In the Dark/Graduation Day” and an EP called “Throwing Stones.”

Hurricane Beach features Steve Oakley on vocals and guitar, Ted Karapalides on guitar, Chris Ritchie on bass, Don DiPaolo on drums and me on guitar just like back in the day.

With Ted’s leadership, Hurricane Beach was recorded over the last year or so virtually. That is, Steve, Ted and Don recorded their parts in South Jersey while Chris and I recorded our parts here in Texas. Ted finished mixing Hurricane Beach just a few weeks ago.

It’s funny how time changes tastes and technique yet “Hurricane Beach” sounds unintentionally just like Rough Mix many years ago. I am proud that we did this and grateful to Ted for leading the effort. I doubt there will be a tour or anything. But, maybe we will get together for a show at the old high school, basement of the church or a parking lot where one the dingy old nightclubs used to be.

Clearly, I am excited about the opportunity to work with these talented friends again. And, I can’t wait to share the new song with our old and new friends. In the meantime, here is the artwork that Megan came up with for Hurricane Beach for Spotify, Apple Music….
