Sky reports that Manuel Neuer has been training “obsessively” and will make a comeback sooner than expected. He will start goalkeeping training and running in about 2 weeks. They say he has been supporting Yann Sommer and their new goalkeeping coach in training.

Thomas Tuchel wants to welcome him back as number 1 as soon as possible, also due to leadership qualities and defense management.

They will definitely bring a lot on the pitch but I think that Manu being back will also help a lot for the management of the team. These babies need their mommy. More seriously I have the feeling that the atmosphere within the team isn't so good recently, which is perfectly understandable considering the events of the last months, but I think that Manu's absence also had a great impact on that. We missed his calm yet powerful leadership. Him and Thomas works a little bit like Philipp and Bastian back in the days, one is the quiet leader while the other is the vocal leader and Bayern needs both of them to function well.

Yeah that’s what’s circulating out there? I cannot judge the truth content of those hearsays, obviously, but rn they seem to be rather one sided, to put it nicely. Clearly Toni and Manu are close friends and have been for long, so ofc there’s that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My main problem with this whole thing is that I feel like they are currently both getting framed in the press and in a way that’s very much not to my liking. All of a sudden the captain of the team (!) and the gk coach who’s been there for a decade (!) are mean, gossipy fossils, who run their bff clique, are uncooperative, against progress/new approaches and hide from competition? All while Brazzo is pictured as the big mediator, which is just lol no thanks.

How convenient it is for all this to come up when one of the concerned people is not even available to properly react/take a stand (very literally ehhh).

I don’t have an elaborate theory of who exactly wants what endgame here (honestly I’ve been avoiding football news/content for a while too for— well, my sanity), and a huge chunk of it is surely the press spinning whatever narrative they “stumble into” and “sells well”, but this is not happening for the first time here. (Maybe I’d be less suspicious if it wasn’t the case.) There has been a rather similar “character assassination campaign” against Hansi Flick back in the day. And isn’t it interesting that Brazzo always had a dream coach, who very clearly wasn’t Flick—

But somehow we aren’t supposed to be discussing/questioning other egos and biases that are in play in this. Wonder who/what does that imbalance serve. Wonder who/what that now longish list of super accomplished, loyal people serve who have been let go from the club one way or another (I’d say mostly disgracefully) over the last 2 years. Funnily many of them work together now elsewhere. Now I only have experience in the corporate world (which is actually great bc Bayern after all is a corporation lol), but this is usually a sign of shit (could say toxic) management.

I’m willing to accept that change can be necessary even if it’s painful, but like— has anyone delivered on the promises here? I’d like to see what all this soulless purge was for.

Even that wouldn’t bother me so much if not for all the “mia san mia” bs. Well, the style and pace in which the club is getting rid of some of its best and most loyal ones make me question who exactly are they really. Hope they prove me wrong, but what’s happening (again) comes off as an attack on more than one club legend at once. One just got fired and I can’t help being very concerned for the other. Can’t wait to learn from Bild how Manu was never actually a good goalie, Toni just managed to hide the facts till now, out of brotherly love—

Btw, to whom it may concern: if this is how your employer has your back while you are on sick leave, maybe time to reconsider some things in your (professional) life.

on his vice captains Rüdiger and Havertz: I've known Antonio since his time at VfB Stuttgart. He was a first team player and I was still a youth player. We looked up to him. Everyone who made it to the first team from the youth was a great role model for us. Unfortunately we never played together at club level. Our relationship is very good. We get on really well. I've known Kai for a long time too. I'm very happy that he got this role. He flies under the radar. Sometimes it's not just about scoring goals. Kai runs a lot and gives everything for the team. We need people like him.

on Stiller and Pavlović: Both have developed a lot. I know Angelo from the second team at Bayern. Unfortunately, he left the club back then. You could already tell back then that he's someone who is brave and wants the ball. He's technically good and has no fear, similar to Pavlo. In his first season, Aleks started against Real at the Bernabeu and wasn't afraid. Both have a similar profile, both are technically strong and play good passes. Both have fun on the pitch.

on Germany's new #1 ter Stegen: He's done brilliantly over the years. He always gave me the impression that he wants to be number one. That's part of football. But if it doesn't work out, you have a responsibility towards the team. And he has always done that outstandingly. He's captain at FC Barcelona. That's not very common for a German player. I'm happy for him that the door is now opening for him. He deserves it.

on his role model as Germany captain: You are inspired by the captains that you played with yourself. Philipp Lahm, Manuel Neuer and Ilkay Gündogan. I think everyone interprets the role in their own way. But the structure of the team was also different for everyone. You have to approach it individually. Certain tasks definitely have to be completed, which I may not know about yet.

on continuing to play right-back in the national team: I see it as a strength that I can play both positions. It has helped me a lot in my career to get to where I am. That's why I will never close myself off to one position. I hope that we can close this topic soon.

Club World Cup or Nations League next summer?: I would like to play both. In general, I'm a fan of playing many games. When it comes to the Nations League, people always say it's an 'artificial' competition. Personally, I would rather play the Nations League and compete for a trophy than play in any kind of friendly games.
