Continue reading Untitled

As a fan of both Folie and The Holy Bible, I feel like there’s more to this line in 20 Dollar Nosebleed than I ever see people discuss, including Mr Wentz himself:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The picture is cropped because it contains blood but you can see the full thing here.)
I think Pete Wentz related to Richey Edwards for these reasons: (tw for brief discussion of suicide/self harm/eating disorders)
1) The most glaringly obvious reason is Richey Edwards' struggles with ill mental health. Struggling with an eating disorder and depression, he was open in interviews about his self-harming. Now presumed dead, he mysteriously dissapeared in 1995, making him part of the '27 Club.' While he was alive, many people fixated on his mental health issues and he even once recieved a set of knives from a fan, along with a note saying "Look at me while you do it."
Pete Wentz also recieved both praise for being open about his struggles with mental health, especially his suicide attempt, and a weird obsession, writing on Don't You Know Who I Think I Am? "There's a world outside my front door that gets off on being down." Throughout Folie, there are many lines referring to wanting to disappear, including "sometimes I want to quit this all and become an accountant now," like in The (Shipped) Gold Standard, and pretty much all of the song 27 (a reference to the 27 Club, which Edwards is a part of).
2) Richey Edwards was the ideas man of the Manics first and rhythm guitarist second. In fact, it wasn't a secret that he would mime playing, either turned down or just unplugged, especially early on. The band famously had grand plans for their first album, claiming that they would release a debut album that would be the "greatest rock album ever," selling incredibly well, and would then be followed by them splitting up.
3) The Manics were questioned for their authenticity. During an interview with an NME writer, Richey Edwards took a razor (from where, no one's sure) and carved the phrase "4 Real" into his arm. The picture that Pete Wentz chose to include is of this incident. Richie Edwards needed many stitches afterwards and they had to cancel a show on the following day.
4) Richey Edwards and Nicky wire would write lyrics and the other half of the band, James Dean Bradfield and Sean Moore, would write the music. Perhaps this reminded him of his creative relationship with Patrick Stump and the rest of Fall Out Boy? Both bands had roots in heavier punk but grew into a more distinctive rock sound.
I feel there are a fair few parrallels between the two, including one or two I didn't mention. Maybe he thought so too.

my piece for @placebopilled for the velvet goldmine secret fairy event!! we haven't really spoken but i saw that you liked the manic street preachers and i thought that taking their lyrics with the context of shots from the film would be interesting. i've been listening to this is my truth tell me yours a lot, so i ended up pairing lyrics from you're tender and you're tired with the dynamic between brian and curt.
this ended up being a triptych because i had several ideas i felt worked best together - the idea for the first one started with the "sand and sea" line, the rest of which reflects brian's allowance for curt to use him as a support, as well as the poetic tragedy of their relationship. The latter two, with the repetitive lyrics at the end of the song, reflect the end of their relationship and brian's denial of that support he once offered to curt, defined by his silent exit.
these were also an interesting experience to draw, as they allowed me to flex some technical skill muscles - rather than drawing from observation, i mapped out the tonal values semi-blindly and only after that did i add colour. each one was executed differently depending on what worked best with each image. the text is also a very technical element, it allowed me to work with the remaining space and create lettering with both consistency and difference, as well as with a visual flow. this is also a style of writing i used in another piece inspired by glam rock.
thank you @gayalienwilde and @placebopilled for this opportunity!! and to the latter, i hope you enjoy this work!!!

How can ppl still see that hand scene and say maybe he didn't know what he was doing? Still committing to the bit? They may never come out publicly and DT peruses his Liberace ways but for me, he has screamed it to our faces.
there isn't one single possibility he unknowingly put this madness in there. He's reaching ppl maybe try getting the message?
This man is Chronically hyper-fixated and fucking GETS subtle, nuanced stuff. You should listen to a podcast he did about manic street preachers and their music. his insights about the layered meanings behind the songs still give me chills to this day. (FUN FACT he said his favourite song was Nobody Loved You Like Me, a very obscure song from the band, and that song was played at the bloody NTA where he gave David his award. the lyrics and his opinions about that song say A LOT
Well I seem to be getting more anons going “okay what the fuck is going on” instead of haters nowadays so I think it is reaching more people. Also anons are screaming for us to stop talking about it and call us sick so I think it’s getting to them too.
I need to listen to the podcast but *breathes* what do you mean he said this song is his favourite and then it was played during NTAs when he gave David his award?
