On this cool glasshouse bench some of last season apples (Malus cvs) were being stored, and the air was full of fragrance from the ripe fruit. The usually recommendation for this storage environment is that it needs to be cool and even temperature of 4-7°C (39-46°F) which is frost free. The storage needs to be well-ventilated, free from rodents and dark. Though this wasn’t a dark place it seemed a good use of the bench till it was needed in the spring.

Feral apples 🍎

This park has a lot of different malus trees (possibly an orchard once upon a time) – some with green fruit, others with bright red or even yellow.

With feral apples and crabapples, i taste the fruit first before collecting. sometimes it tastes like nothing or it’s extremely sour, or has a bad texture. this specific tree has sweet-sour fruit that’s great for making apple jelly, butter, or chutney.

In this organic garden this young tree of Malus domestica 'Pitmaston Pine Apple' (apple) was covered in fruit. This small, late, dessert apple has russet skin with creamy-yellow flesh with an intense nutty, sweet-sharp flavour, sometimes likened to pineapple. This upright tree tends to have biennial crops.
