The Power of Gratitude
Notice for the Women's day celebrations in my society read: “Nominate a woman who inspires you. We will have a lucky draw to choose the winner for a gift hamper.”
I asked my 16-year-old daughter whom to nominate. “Nominate Rehana Aunty!” she suggested. I was surprised because Rehana is our domestic help. But, the reason she gave was simple, yet I am sure not thought of by most of us:
Rehana is a working mother, with 4 kids. The younger one is about 8 and the eldest 17. All of them go to school. Her husband has taken another wife leaving all 4 kids to her.
Rehana lives in an 8 by 8 feet room, with her kids. The toilet is a shared one at a distance. Before coming to “work” she makes lunch for her kids, cleans the house, gets the kids started on their day, and then walks about 3 kms to our home. Still, she is rarely late for work because if she is late we all will get late. It is a trigger effect as you will realize. And, if she is late she might lose her job, which obviously is not an option for her… she is the sole earning member in the family.
After work she goes straight back home, sometimes talking to someone like herself…but only if they are also walking the same way. She cannot afford the luxury to sit and talk to anyone. There is a lot of work still waiting for her at home so, no networking, socializing, or party, or “me time” for her, ever. Still, she is always smiling and laughing, and proactively doing all odd jobs that we request her to do. And, often we have seen that if she hears azan at a distance while working she will cover her head and thank Allah for all that she has got.
“Isn’t she a real inspiration for all career oriented women, Mom?”
asked my young one, who is on way to being a working woman herself in a few years, as she prepares herself to be an engineer. And, I thought how right she was. We, with all our luxuries, and access to helpers like Rehana, still get grumpy and weighed down by our responsibilities. We continue to demand some distressing, some me time, some free time, some entertainment and what not. In the process we often make everyone around us feel guilty for burdening us with work.
I silently vowed to try and live life with more gratitude. After all, I have a lot more going for me than Rehana has! And I also sent a prayer up for Rehana who has unknowingly instilled an attitude of satisfaction and tolerance in my daughter. Whether or not Rehana wins the lucky draw, she surely deserves a lucky hamper from me on this women's day. Tips to find the right housemaid service for you.
Choosing the right housemaid service for you can often be a challenging task. When selecting a maid service, it is important to consider your needs and budget. Today marks the 20th death anniversary of Uma Devi Khatri aka #TunTun. She was a well-known singer and actress, famous for being the first female comedian in Hindi cinema. Uma was born in 1923 in a small village near Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, India. Tragically, her parents and brother were killed over a land dispute. Uma lost her family when she was very young and had to live as a maid with relatives. Despite these hardships, Uma's life changed when she met Akhtar Abbas Kazi, an Excise Duty Inspector, who supported and encouraged her. During the India-Pakistan partition, Kazi moved to Lahore, but Uma went to Bombay (now Mumbai) to pursue a singing career in movies. They later married in Bombay in 1947. Uma bravely approached composer Naushad Ali in Bombay, asking for a chance to sing, and he gave her an opportunity. She debuted as a singer in the film "Wamiq Azra" (1946) and quickly made a name for herself. Uma had a series of hit songs in the 1940s, including in the movie "Dard" (1947). Her singing career flourished, and she became one of the top playback singers. However, as music styles changed, she found it hard to compete with newer singers. Naushad suggested she try acting, and she debuted in the film "Babul" (1950) alongside Dilip Kumar, where she got her stage name "Tun Tun." Tun Tun became a famous comic actor, appearing in many films over the next decades, including with stars like Amitabh Bachchan. She acted in about 198 films in various languages, becoming a well-loved figure in Bollywood comedy. Her last film appearance was in "Kasam Dhande Ki" (1990). Tun Tun's name became a cultural reference in India, often associated with comic characters.

//more info about the characters, the families, what they like & dislike & more about their world- :3
ALRIGHT THIS MIGHT GET LONG BUT HERE WE GO (under a read more because spoiler alert: it did get long)
I better start with the world setting because that would help other things make sense. Fogs Keep is a self-contained city divided into five sections: North Quarter, South Quarter, East Quarter, West Quarter, and the Center. There are also two classes of elves, Sky Elves and Tree Elves. The North Quarter is where all the farming/agriculture takes place (at least as much as a damp and foggy place can allow), the South Quarter is where the government buildings are, and the Center is where the shops and entertainment districts are. Sky Elves live in the West Quarter and are the higher class (get all the fancy clothes, nice houses, carriages, jobs, etc etc). Tree Elves live in the East Quarter and are the working class. Their quarter kind of looks like the Mumbai slums but not as bad? But they do live kind of packed into an area, small families/single Tree Elves get a small shack while sometimes multiple families live in one building or families take in elderly that can't fend for themselves, as is with one of my narrators Ransom.
Ransom lives in the East Quarter with his family; older sister Kay and younger sibling Ohanko, and an old man the family shares their house with. His father died when Ransom was still a kid and his mother died when she gave birth to Ohanko, so Kay and him had to raise them by themselves. He's a Tree Elf through and through, and absolutely hates Sky Elves. He thinks they don't deserve the lives they have because they don't do nearly half the work that Tree Elves do for half the pay and resources. He likes sweets, his friend Tanner, Tree Elf pride, and his family. He'd get run over by a carriage for his family. He dislikes Sky Elves (very much), his boot-blacking job (esp. since his clients are all Sky Elves), and horses. He thinks animals shouldn't be allowed to be that big.
ANYWAY so my story follows Ransom the Tree Elf and Cornelius, who is a Sky Elf. Cornelius lives in the West Quarter with his great grand-aunt Penelope and live-in maid Theodora. His mother also died in childbirth (with him) and his father passed from pneumonia. He doesn't have any siblings or other family, but used to have another Tree Elf maid named Ivy who would keep him company and be his friend. She had to be let go though because Cornelius was running out of money to support her. He's basically the only Sky Elf that believes Tree Elves should be treated fairly and better, and other Sky Elves think he's crazy for it because this is the way things have always been, it's just the way things are. He's even taken it upon himself to learn the Tree Elf dialect (although he's a total beginner and can offend with his horrible accent). Others think he's also crazy because he wants to see the world outside of Fogs Keep, but not only is he sickly and frail, nobody has ever left Fogs Keep as there's a huge ravine surrounding its boarders, and the fog makes it impossible to see the other side. It's basically cut off from the rest of the world. Cornelius likes his horse Annabelle, tea, working on maps (his father was Fogs Keep's cartographer and he took up the position once he died), and Tree Elves. He dislikes the prejudice Tree Elves get, his weak constitution, and being alone. He also dislikes his ex-friend Benjamin but that's another story haha-
I think that answered all your questions?? I hope it generates some interest??? I didn't reveal any of the plot (apart from Cornelius wanting to leave and Ransom hating Sky Elves) I think, so..... ta-da???

Is it Safe to Hire Domestic Helpers Online?
Helper4U aims to facilitate hiring helpers for the home. The idea is quite revolutionary: Hire a maid or nanny on the phone! One reason some customers hesitate using Helper4U was that they didn't feel comfortable hiring from an online portal. They have a “fear of hiring a stranger”.
This has changed during COVID. Employers now prefer to use Helper4U as a no Contact Hiring platform. But, even today sometimes employers ask us "Is it safe to hire online?" So, we will answer this question of your safety when hiring domestic Helpers online.
When we talk to employers they say they may prefer to hire someone their neighbour or security guard recommends or an agent brings. This is because somehow they have this psychological comfort that the candidate is known to "someone" - Even if that someone else is the security guard, their driver or agency. When the Helper4U team asks them, if something happens with the Helper then will these people take responsibility for that? - The answer is always “No, they will not.”
Compare this with the person you are hiring on an online portal with a live database, like Helper4U. All our candidates have been interviewed by the Helper4U team, verified using documents, and the team is constantly in touch with them till their hiring closes. Further, Criminal Background check, Address check, Document check, Employment check are all available at the click of a button on the website. As a result, a Maid, Cook, Nanny, caregiver or Driver you hire from an online platform like Helper4U can be trusted far more than the one recommended by a security guard.
Why depend on someone else
So, why depend upon someone else to work at closing your hiring needs. when you can easily hire Maid, Cook, Nanny, Caregiver, Driver, on online portal, with minimal cost and effort, through an online portal?
When someone looks for a blue or white collar job in any organization, the organization does not hire them because someone in that organization knows them. They have hired based on their experience, education or capability. Imagine, if someone said they cannot hire us because no one they know can vouch for us! In this case, most of us would remain unemployed most of our lives.
So, why don’t we apply the same logic when we hire at our homes? Just check that the person has all that is needed to complete the job you are offering. Check whether the person ticks all the boxes on the JD you have: Experience, age, qualification, temperament etc. And then, get them verified by a professional.
Bad experiences are there in every industry. Just because your friend had a bad experience with her domestic worker does not mean that you will go through the same. And, Helper4U proudly says that so far in 7 years of its work, not a single incident requiring legal intervention has taken place with any of its Helpers placed across India. Most of these Helpers have been “strangers” for the employers, still they have remained safe.
Who is a Stranger
These bring us to the definition of a stranger. A stranger is defined as a person with whom one does not know or with whom one is not familiar. So, the question is should we be suspicious of the person we are not familiar with or of a person who is not familiar with the job on offer? Logically it should be the second option.
When going through the hiring process focus on the fact that the candidate is not a stranger to the role, rather than on the fact that she and you are physically strangers.
If she has the requisite experience, skill and qualifications to carry out her duties, then the only thing left for you to do is familiarize yourself with her. Your security guard being familiar with her is of no consequence. As we said before, if something were to happen, you will not be able to hold that security guard responsible.
Many people say that the job of a maid or babysitter is more intimate and personal to the employer than that of a white collared worker in the office. We totally agree. Your domestic Helper will be interacting with and be responsible for people whom you love the most. So, ensure that you familiarize yourself with her. How do you do that?
Verification of Helper
It is simple: Check documents, get verification of criminal record done, talk to previous employers, if possible visit her home or get a third party to visit the home, ask as many questions as you can to know her personally.
As done by the HR department of a company while hiring any employee, take more than one interview, let the person go through a trial period of a couple of days to ensure that your Helper is no stranger to the job role.
These are the things you should follow as a process, even if the maid or nanny is coming through a referral. No one who refers to a maid would have done any kind of verification on your behalf before recommending the person.
At the most someone may vouch for how good they are at work. Even here, each of us has a different requirement from our domestic help. What works for them may not work for you. So, try out the person first, irrespective of the source of the candidate.
Every day as parents, we entrust our kids to new people and new environments, whether in school, playground, restaurants, etc. At school, we leave them with new teachers, in a new environment. This is not only because someone recommended that school to us, but because we do our due diligence before finalizing a school. So, do similar due diligence when hiring a Helper for home. Don’t only rely on word of mouth.
Hire Fair
The “stranger mentality” only holds us back from improving our quality of life. We should not hesitate to hire someone just because we feel we are strangers, even when the person is qualified, experienced, polite, and ready to work for us in our budget and at our time requirement - In short, they are a fit for us in every way.
So, please give yourself as well as the job seeker a chance at a better life. Do the due diligence and then be fair in hiring.
If you want to hire verified, experienced ABCDE: Aya, Bai, Cook, Driver & Everyone similar, you can do so in a cost-effective and time-saving way at Helper4U.in. You can also get any kind of verification for your staff. For this you can use the simple online, no fuss process at Helper4U.in.
We offer the following services so that the person you hire is not a stranger to you when you hire them.
Document Verification | Criminal Verification | Address Verification

it’s 2023 so gonna post my “Haven is a Hellfire Club” headcanon again and elaborating on what that actually means for those not familiar with it in Marvel, the Hellfire Club is simply a super fancy international social club for the mega wealthy. There’s literally no stipulations for joining besides being over a certain net worth. To quote a comic, it’s simultaneously uber elite and exclusive whilst also egalitarian---race, sex, even species are no matter, you just gotta be RICH, whether it’s earned or inherited. While most major cities have a Hellfire Club, there’s four major branches---London, Paris, Hong Kong, and Manhattan. And each HFC, or at least each major one, has an Inner Circle. The Black Queen, the White King, and so one. While the majority of the HFC members are just normal members who are normal people aside from being mega crazy rich---for instance, Tony Stark’s dad was one, and he inherited the membership, as did Archangel and Psylocke from their own super rich fathers--the Inner Circle are a different story. While to most people they just appear to be members who rose to management status, the reality is that actually they’re plotting to control the world (and perhaps do!) through using their vast wealth and connections to influence politics and economics. Gosh, rich people are evil and greedy?! I’m shocked! They’ve been around centuries, but the game changed with the advent of mutantkind. The Manhattan Inner Circle is the one most people---hell, most canon writers, it seems---are aware of. These are the X-Men baddies, E.mma F.rost and S.ebastian S.haw and so on. For most of their history, up until VERY recently, they were not known to the public as mutants or villains, just super respectable rich people, because the Hellfire Club, despite the name SCREAMING EVIL, is considered a super respectable organization! SO WHERE THE FUCK DOES HAVEN FEATURE IN THIS? She has ZERO connection to them in canon, but she’s canonically from one of the wealthiest families in Mumbai, which is the billionaire city of India. No matter how much money she’s devoted to her work, her fam musta been LOADED. And, like Hong Kong, Mumbai is a former major British colony, and I hc that the HFC largely spread in the non-Western world through colonialism (bc...sadly, that makes sense) so I reckon that Mumbai has a Hellfire Club, even if it’s not a major base, and Haven’s family was invited. And while I hc her parents refused on the ground of “this literally came with the British Raj” Haven decided she’d join in order to network there among the uber-wealthy and try to get them to put their white guilt money towards good causes at least. She’s not an Inner Circle member, she has no more idea than anyone else that the Inner Circle are bad guys, they didn’t know she was a supervillain either, it was just a “two ships crossing in the night” deal. She thought they were just regular rich people, they thought she was just regular rich people. Also, there’s a very. . .sexual side to the services offered at the Hellfire Club, it’s emphasized as very stuffy and formal with balls and galas for the creme de la creme and the upper-crustiest of the upper crust, yet at the same time very clearly a decadent kink/sex club too. I feel like they probably offer these “special” services to patrons they think will be into it but have the common sense to know it’s not something everyone is going to want to partake in, otherwise I feel like they’d be risking offending WAY too much of their clientele, like there’s gotta be way too many conservative old duchesses and so on who would be SHOCKED and APPALLED at such a thing. I feel like Haven is DEF one of the ones where they went “yeah let’s NOT ask her if she wants the French maid service” and she’s like...she’s vaguely aware there’s a scandalous aspect available to those that wish it, but it seems like everyone is properly paid/consenting/etc so it’s not really her business and it’s not in front of her face so it’s like, ok, I’m just going to ignore the abundance of corsets passing me by. I also feel like the Mumbai culture makes THEIR HFC less overtly sexy and I like to think they’ve very much made their base more a celebration of the local diversity, culture, and art/dance/decor of the city and not the invaders who founded the place

Mumbai Dabbawala
Mumbai Dabbawala
Helper4U.in has associated with Mumbai Dabbawalas to extend our reach to the Job Givers for Blue Collared workers. It was a wonderful experience watching how the Dabbawalas work on autopilot, in spite of no MBA or training.
Sharing here some memories we carried back from our first campaign through them.
Checking out the associated brand
When we reached, first of all, the managers checked the pamphlets to ensure it was good enough to be associated with. Do the gentlemen look familiar? Well, they were part of The Lunchbox movie!
Interestingly, the bench they are sitting on is also multipurpose. It turns into a carrier once the work starts.
Our pamphlets garnered attention as many dabbawalas saw an opportunity to find jobs for their wives or relatives.
Beautiful Arrangement
The arrangement of so many Dabba cases in Mumbai looks difficult, but actually is quite simple:
Just take one strap as a central strap
Put it through the straps of all the cases
behold, you have this beautiful, simple arrangement that is easy to carry and sort.
Maximizing the ROI
Whether a bike or a bicycle, this arrangement ensures maximum ROI with every trip.
Men at Work
Dabbawalas with their trademark cap everywhere carrying lunch boxes in every direction, as per the assigned destination.
Coded Dabbas
The dabbas are then coded as per their destination, and no mistake is made in delivery.
Unbelievable Co-ordination
As seen above, as soon as the boxes reach their respective spot marked for a destination someone would come, insert pamphlets in all the dabbas there,
Ready to leave
Finally, pick them up and leave for delivery.
Mumbai Dabbawalas have become an integral part of our lives and we fail to realize their importance in our daily lives.
