Today the Church honors St. Usthazanes and Companions, Martyrs.
Orate pro nobis.
St. Usthazanes was a monk in late 3rd-4th c. Persia. He was also the Abbot of his monastery. He is numbered among the Martyrs of Persia under Shapur II, who were a group of Assyrian Christian martyrs put to death by Shapur II of Persia (r. 309–379) for refusing to renounce the Christian Faith.
Shapur II severely persecuted the Christians of the Persian empire from AD 339 until his death in 379. This was in part a response to the increasing Christianization of the Roman Empire, the fierce enemies of Persia, making all Christians suspected traitors. This was confirmed in his mind when St. Shimun Bar Sabbae, bishop of Seleucia-Ctesiphon, was accused of being in secret correspondence with the Roman emperor. In total, it is estimated that Shapur martyred roughly 200,000 Persian Christians. They are remembered as a group in the Roman and Orthodox calendars. The Roman Martyrology gives feast days of 6 April, 22 April and 9 May for different groups. Some individuals we know by name and they are honored with their own feast days.
St. Usthazanes is one such saint and martyr. Little is known about his life except that he was a monk and abbot. As part of the sweeping persecution of Christians, St. Usthazanes was tortured and executed with 12 of his brother monks at Ishtar in AD 341.
In “The Ecclesiastical History of Sozomen : comprising a history of the Church from A.D. 324 to A.D. 440” (written c. AD 349-350), he records the story of the martyrdom of St. Usthazanes, his fellow monks, and nearly 100 other clergy:
“In this manner the honorable life of Usthazanes was terminated, and when the intelligence was brought to Symeon in the prison, he offered thanksgiving to God on his account. The following day, which happened to be the sixth day of the week, and likewise the day on which, as immediately preceding the festival of the resurrection, the annual memorial of the passion of the Saviour is celebrated, the king issued orders for the decapitation of Symeon; for he had again been conducted to the palace from the prison, had reasoned most nobly with Sapor on points of doctrine, and had expressed a determination never to worship either the king or the sun. On the same day a hundred other prisoners were ordered to be slain. Symeon beheld their execution, and last of all he was put to death. Amongst these victims were bishops, presbyters, and other clergy of different grades. As they were being led out to execution, the chief of the Magi approached them, and asked them whether they would preserve their lives by conforming to the religion of the king and by worshiping the sun. As none of them would comply with this condition, they were conducted to the place of execution, and the executioners applied themselves to the task of slaying these martyrs. Symeon, standing by those who were to be slain, exhorted them to constancy, and reasoned concerning death, and the resurrection, and piety, and showed them from the sacred Scriptures that a death like theirs is true life; whereas to live, and through fear to deny God, is as truly death. He told them, too, that even if no one were to slay them, death would inevitably overtake them; for our death is a natural consequence of our birth. The things after those of this life are perpetual, and do not happen alike to all men; but as if measured by some rule, they must give an accurate account of the course of life here. Each one who did well, will receive immortal rewards and will escape the punishments of those who did the opposite. He likewise told them that the greatest and happiest of all good actions is to die for the cause of God. While Symeon was pursuing such themes, and like a household attendant, was exhorting them about the manner in which they were to go into the conflicts, each one listened and spiritedly went to the slaughter. After the executioner had despatched a hundred, Symeon himself was slain; and Abedechalaas and Anannias, two aged presbyters of his own church, who had been his fellow-prisoners, suffered with him.”
Almighty God, who gave to your servant Usthazanes and Companions boldness to confess the Name of our Savior Jesus Christ before the rulers of this world, and courage to die for this faith: Grant that we may always be ready to give a reason for the hope that is in us, and to suffer gladly for the sake of our Lord Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever.
Amen.

Magi 349 Spoilers
Warning: As usual, please note that my level of Japanese is basic at most, and this is just a translation of text summaries available online, so I cannot guarantee that the following snippets are accurate. In other words, these can be just rumors or misinterpretations, and I might have left some parts out because I didn’t understand them. Feel free to share the link, but please DO NOT REPOST, and don’t forget to support the official releases!!
In which Aladdin, Arba, Alibaba, and Ugo take sides, and the discussion continues... .
Status: Confirmed
Starting from where we left the action last time, Ugo explains that he thought about such a magic to connect dimensions a long time ago, but it requires the magical power of a god. It is necessary to send everyone back to the rukh!
Aladdin, after a moment, says that Ugo is not completely broken, but just a little confused. They calm him down, and Ugo asks Aladdin if he will listen to him. He agrees.
Ugo says that, to begin with, breaking the walls that separate the dimensions is a bad idea - there is a world beyond this one, so wouldn’t it be annoying for the people over there? Arba gets a little snappy at this (remember that Ugo is the one who “changed places” with Il Ilah).
This gets Alibaba wondering. They all thought Il Ilah was a such a bad guy, but if consider that again, that might be just something they are assuming. Maybe that’s why Solomon scattered Destiny?
Arba jumps in to defend Il Ilah. She calls them all arrogant, saying they all thought Il Ilah was just a ball of energy or something, but Il Ilah does have a will, and is no different from them.
They are not the same, replies Ugo, as those in the higher worlds have the ability to twist their fates. That’s why he agrees with Alibaba and Sinbad - the upper walls must be broken.
Of course, Arba is against this, as it would mean once again depriving the god of a different dimension of its power. Ugo once again defends that they should break the vertical walls, but Aladdin now suggests that, instead, they should make those walls stronger and protect their world.
Sinbad, who has been silent so far, speaks up. Why are they all assuming they cannot communicate with other worlds? If we say each world is a country, then the vertical walls would be the “borders” that separate them. As such, what Aladdin and Arba are proposing is to isolate their country, while Alibaba and Ugo are saying they should invade others.
The people of other worlds should be just like them, having a will, building societies. It’s exactly like in Alma Toran. In that case, what should they do? They might even have different resources, and thus be able to trade with each other. Alibaba and Aladdin seem to agree with his words.
Sinbad then looks at Alibaba, and remembers his words about how it’s amazing to do things with everyone, and how Alibaba has involved him as well.
Alibaba, meanwhile, seems proud of Sinbad? He says that this is as expected of Sinbad, and laughs.
In the next chapter, looks like fate starts to change!

Thoughts on the reunion of Aladdin and Ugo?
It feels nostalgic to see Aladdin and Ugo reunited. The last time they appeared on page together was during the Balbadd arc and it has been such a long time even since.
Ugo is the closest thing to a parent for Aladdin. He was the first person Aladdin met and the only one who was there as the boy was growing up.
Unfortunately, Ohtaka miss the chance to make an emotional and impactful reunion between those two.
Instead we get this:
Pretty unimpressive.
However, as far as the character development goes I find it interesting that Aladdin is the one who calms down Ugo and reassure him that he’s okay. In the past, it was always Ugo the one who comforted Aladdin and gave him advice kinda like a parent does with their child. But now their roles are reversed, just like when someone grows up and has to be the to comfort their parents. Their current interaction marks Aladdin’s passage to adulthood.
This is further highlighted by that panel:
Where Aladdin is shown to have a heated disagreement with Ugo. Aladdin no longer follows Ugo (and Solomon’s) wishes. Now, he’s a grown up who can make decisions on his own. And that’s something very important.

Return to original form ?
Wait . I just thaught about something. If the humans of the Magi World are humans , it's because of Ugo , right ? And Aladdin want to destroy the sacred palace . If he destroys it ... Does all the humans would came back to their original form ?! Since all the species are now in one and have made childs with each others , their would be hybrids ? Also , I don't know for the other humans but obviously all the fanalis would turn back in red lions ( just like in the dark continent ) so ... One last question : - do Alibaba will still love morgiana as a wolf-looked creature ? ( I know it's a lion but for me , it's a freacking wolf. ) I don't know , Alibaba seems to like pretty girls who can help at home ect ... She can't do that as a wolf ?!

I'm back to reading magi but I'm doing it achronologically from chapters 1, 105, and 210. Anyways in the Balbad arc Alibaba declares intent to make Balbad as a republic with representative government and a redistribution, but in the Kou Sindria council meeting arc none of that is brought up. Instead he agrees to a deal where he will be king/acting governor and the Saluja dynasty continues. Did the author just forget?
Tsk tsl bad ugo, creating an enforced class system. Really tho that's a TERRIBLE idea.
And again with Alibaba, ch 241. With the Kou empire on the brink of civil war this is the perfect opportunity to raise an army (possibly with international support), overthow the local Kou government, and reestablish Balbadd as an independent state. You have options man. Also a marriage to the Ren family means sooo much less now, you could try and renegotiate the deal.
Ahh hakuryuu. Hmmm so his priorities shifted from revenge against al tharam who through gokurou killed his family and usurped the throne, to killing the instigator gokurou and reclaiming the throne.
Ch 250. Ok that makes a lot more sense. Yeah I'll buy that.
Ch 288: ☆☆☆Capitalism~!☆☆☆
Ch 302: oh wow they actually brought up sensationalism in an information era. they don’t have any anti-trust laws huh
ch 312: again??? why does this always happen to hakuryuu
ch 316: essence before existence or existence before essence. how black/white rukh has been defined has changed throughout magi and I’m not sure is its intentional or the author winging it for drama. White rukh is first introduced as a person’s intended fate and black and someone choosing something different. Then we learn that white is what solomon intends for people and black is what god intends for people. Now Aladdin introduces the idea that a person envisioning a better future decides the path of the rukh.
ch 325: alright you’re losing me
FINALLY AFTER 332 CHAPTERS SOMEONE FINALLY SAYS THAT ITS THE SYSTEM THAT WRONG. not sure i trust the author with tackling systematic problems but we’ll see where this goes.
ch 337: dEBaTe ME bRo ... and the unrepentant bastard award goes tooooooo: Judal! its quite refreshing how consistent his character is.
ch 348: wasn’t there infinite vertical levels? 349: I actually really love this type of stuff haha. a dialectic in my manga? I’m happy its here. where are judal and hakuryuu
ch354: ... its like a revolving door of sinbad and david... uuuggggg just stop
ch 367: ok... someone explain to me again how destroying the towers and breaking the system leads to wars. there will be no more difference between black and white? and that does what??? ahhhh good old alibaba
ch 369: end
so in the end they ended up with aladin’s proposal of horizontal integration and taking down ugo’s system (thank you that’s really all I wanted). I was worried if MAgi would stick the ending after 300+ chapters and I am elated to say it did! I really liked this ending overall. I can see how characters yelling philosophy and ethics for 30 chapters might put off people but this was so totally my thing.
The weak points in the series were: David. just all of david. the Al Torran flashback dragged a bit. The Hakuryuu takeover I like in concept but the execution could have been better and less reliant on edge and shock value. I’m still not sure why the Alibaba and Hakuryuu fight had to happen at all even though it ended up being really plot important. Everyone forgave him for killing alibaba way to easily. also are we just going to forget the fact that he tortured thousands of people?
alba just gets away scot free huh. turning into a kid is the worst that she gets.
