Man, I’ve been following this series for so long, I managed to get a major in law and get the job I’ve been dreaming about for the last 10 years or so (I got the good news last week, so I guess I’ll find out for real next year if it really is my dream job or not).

That said, I still plan on finishing the “Makai Ouji Redrawn/Changed Panels” thing, since I have only 2 volumes left + it’s fun to do in general, I’ve just been very busy the last 2 years D:

 She stood up gleefully, strode across the living room, and retrieved her jacket and white overcoat from her room. She also pulled on her perfectly-fitting gloves, changed into her long boots, and quickly walked out of the flat.

  “W-w-wait!” I yelled as they walked away. They both turned and faced me.

  “Are you really going to leave him here?”

   “Is that a problem?” Shirley said. Lestrade glared at me angrily with both hands on her hips and lectured me.

   “My son is gentle and well behaved. He is a good boy, like an angel.”

  “It’s not like that; he might be a good boy, but… ummm… I’m not good with kids.”

  They looked at me as if I was some social outcast. I withered under their intense stares.

   How dare a domestic violence inspector and a private android detective look at me like that!

  “Sorry, but it’s impossible. I just can’t handle kids,” I explained desperately.

  “Then, why don’t you leave?”

  “Why should I have to leave my apartment? You aren’t even going to come back tonight, are you? I know you didn’t last time. I can’t afford to go out to eat; I am like a NEET*.”

  Essentially, I’m not good with children. I never wanted to specialize in pediatrics. I can’t stand the sound of kids screaming. The best thing about being a military doctor was that I never had children as patients. Still, I witnessed many nasty things in Afghanistan. Several times I saw the corpses of elementary school age children stacked like cordwood. Once, I caught a kid who came to my tent at midnight and tried to steal my gun. One time a kid even casually handed me a live grenade. If the pin had been completely pulled, I wouldn’t be here to tell the tale.

  “I’m sorry, but I really can’t. I can’t take kids.”

  Shirley saw that I was about to lose it and gave me a strange look. Her and Lestrade mumbled quietly to each other.

  “Want to come with us?”

  ——Thus, I took to my pen, to record the exploits of this noble private detective. The story of our encounter, a Depression in Scarlet, had begun.
