What I find markedly different between Mado and other investigators is how cold he is. Where others' say disparaging things to the ghouls they're encountering, they say it with such passion it's almost as if they're trying to convince themselves that what they're doing is 100% justified. With some, it seems like there is wiggle-room for some form of dialogue between them and the ghoul, and that theres' a small possibility that a ghoul *may* be able to say something that makes an impact. No chance with Mado, that (almost) complete lack of emotion is chilling. He is absolutely set on what he is there to do.

Having others' be concerned for her is such an unfamiliar feeling, Touka's automatic reaction is hostility. Relatable.

Anyone else notice that a lot of issues in tg could be resolved through fucking conversation? I'm confident that if Yoshimura or Yomo (🙄) TALKED to Touka, it would make a big difference. She wouldn't have to react the way she does, feel like she can't rely on anyone, or that it doesn't matter what she does because either way she'll be someway responsible. The girl needs help rewiring her instincts into "think first-speak to someone-think some more - then MAYBE act" instead of them telling her "don't do that Touka *brief reason why*" and "oh look you're hurt well if you die 🤷‍♀️lol". How on earth is she supposed to trust people when they treat her like that?

Kasuka Mado Headcanons

- She came from an elite family, her father was a retired military man and her mother owned a restaurant.

- Her parents were conservative and wanted her to have an arranged marriage, but Kasuka wanted more, she ran away and joined the CCG as it was the only military branch her dad wouldn't be able to intervene in her integration.

- Maybe she ran away on the day of the wedding and showed up for registration dressed as a bride.

- If joining the CCG was very difficult for her, I'm still in doubt if Marude was from her class, or if he was from Kureo's class, but she sure did deal with very irritating men like Marude.

- She was very hardworking and rigid, years of gymnastics, ballet and volleyball have given her a good physique.

- She kept diaries and letters to her parents, always very impersonal and serious, her parents never answered the letters.

- She formed a duo with Kiyoko for a few years, before becoming an instructor at the academy, while Kiyoko preferred to remain on the field

- Kasuka's mentor was Iba, she admired him a lot

- She took care of Kureo's appearance when they dated and got married, his best phase was when he was married to her.

- Akira was not a very talkative child, at night Kasuka rehearsed for classes and presented the contents to Akira, certain that her daughter did not pay attention.

- But Akira started memorizing the combat laws, Akira still remembers her mother teaching her, she doesn't remember Kasuka's voice, but she remembers the words.

- Kasuka wasn't overly strict with Akira, but she wasn't very affectionate, Akira took some extracurricular classes like ballet and piano, maybe fencing or some language, but Akira was never strongly interested in any area, as a teenager, Kureo let her do Taekwondo and Akira took to the end.

- Akira met her maternal grandparents a few times, her grandfather died when she was six years old, it was the first contact she had with death.

- Her grandmother never recognized her, when Akira was ten they got a little closer, but after Kasuka died her grandmother came back to despise her.

- Supposedly, Iba was supposed to be Akira's step-grandfather, when something happened and the Mado needed to hide, Kureo would send Akira to Iba's house, Akira liked it because it was close to the beach, but he didn't like the dogs Iba had

Maturing is realizing that Kureo Mado is funny as hell. Like did he murder a lot of people in horrific ways then use their corpses to murder their families? Yeah. But was he probably the biggest menace the CCG bureaucracy has ever seen and the reason several HR representatives quit their jobs? Also yes. Akira had to get her freak behavior from somewhere

Can’t believe tokyo ghoul parents are so terrible that the mass murderer who lured in a middle-schooler with her dead mother’s hand so he could kill her is one of the best dads. Like this man was incredibly murderous but was still willing to suspend his bloodlust to take his daughter shopping. This guy would kill a school bus full of elementary schoolers if they were ghouls but you know he would drop everything for his kid’s piano recital.

Headcanon about the time when Houji was working with Mado Kureo:

- Mado was his first partner after his graduation, but they partnered for a short time then Houji got assigned with the Clown operation and then moved to China

- Houji was VERY skeptical about his hunch, until he witnessed it himself. Then he really developed a mad respect for Mado and believe less in what was written in the book

- Mado liked Houji because they both liked quinques. He enjoyed teaching Houji too because he was diligent and can utilize different types of quinque, unlike Shinohara who often relied on his own body's strength and skills. Houji found Mado's lessons were straightforward and easy to understand

- Akira liked Houji because he was one of the rare people who showed respect to her father and nice to ladies (her). Especially when he called her by Akira-san, instead of -chan like many other investigators which she found rude.

- As Houji somewhat sympathized with ghoul and he was a fresher, he sometimes found Mado's actions disturbing, but he didn't say it. Mado sensed this and often chastised him about it, but eventually let it slide becausr he still did his job well

- Mado usually forgot or neglected the paperwork on purpose when he was too deep in investigation. Houji would do it for him but he still reminded him to be more responsible

- Houji did not enjoy drinking alcohol because it was bad for his health, so he was grateful to have Mado as his superior who never pushed him to drink

- Houji had a low spicy tolerance. When Mado offered him a bite of his not-so-spicy curry, he hold back choking and crying and silently swallowed it in the most elegant way he managed at that time. He was scared to offend his superior

- They often exchanged letters when Houji was in China. Mado made him describe in details about how Chinese quinques were like. He was in great joy when Houji returned and brought him some. He also advised Houji about the making of Chi She and Douhi
