Has anyone thought about Eli in all of this? I mean I know he wasn't in 706, but you can't tell me that man didn't get an invite to the wedding and didn't make the flight across the country to see his friend get married.

But also like... He shows up, and Howie (sorry, he goes by Chimney now) is marrying the woman he was struggling to make things work with just about two years ago. And Hen is also there, and it's nice to run into her and see how life is working out. But then like, Chim ends up in the hospital and that's a little scary because hasn't he had enough of a rough go of it in the last few years.

But then, Tommy fucking Kinard shows up as the date to Chimney's new wife's brother? And how in the fuck did that happen? Because they always got along but were never besties and yet somehow he's come to town to see his buddy get married and instead he's getting a reunion with the team at the 118 that he used to have. And just out of curiosity, he asks Tommy if he still talks to Sal, and Tommy's all "sure, from time to time, we hit the gym. You should join if you have time before you leave".

And so, a quick trip to see his friend gets married becomes this whirlwind of seeing the people he left behind when he moved to Boston, and how maybe they haven't stayed the tightest over the years, but some how a decade (at least) has passed, and they're all still tangled within each other's lives.

I've been thinking about that today.

I just had a thought

AU where the madney wedding goes off without a hitch. All the couples, the bride and groom, Bobby and Athena, Hen and Karen, ((Eddie and Marisol….Probably? Right?)), Buck and Tommy are dancing and everyone is smiling and laughing and enjoying themselves.

Buck appears at Chim and Maddie’s side and asks if he can borrow her for a second. He takes her hands and twirls her and tells her how beautiful she looks and that he’s so proud of her for making it here. They sway together and she says the same thing. It’s been an uphill battle for them both at points. Music swells and they’re laughing. Aw the buckley siblings are best friends.

Cut to tommy and chim fucking twiddling their fingers…And chimney says something about how happy they both look (that’s the LOVE OF HIS LIFE).

Then he looks up at Tommy and he’s like……”wanna dance?” And Tommy bursts out laughing bc he was so in head. He didn’t really know anyone here sides him, hen and buck. But Chim doesn’t even blink, just offers his hand.

Anyway, later when they’re drunk Tommy and Chim reannact the dirty dancing lift to roaring applause.

Am I extremely bummed that Buddie karaoke was cut? Yes! The promos made the whole bachelor party look so fun and I was excited to see it.

Do I think that maybe it’s for the best that the Madney wedding episode focus on Madney? Also yes! If cutting most of the bachelor party is how they make sure the episode is focused on Madney, I’m still bummed but I’m really okay with that.

In a full season the Madney wedding is probably two episodes, but this is a shortened season so concessions have to be made. But really fucking sucks that the writers didn’t just write a 43 minute episode to begin with and it’s shitty that Buddie was used in all the promos but their scenes are likely ending up on the cutting room floor. Use something else to promote the episode if that’s the case.

But honestly the only way I’m going to be really frustrated by this episode is if other romantic relationships overshadow Madney. This is THEIR DAY. We’ve been waiting years for it. It should be about them. Everyone else should be supporting cast on your wedding day.
