Watching Madame Secretary again right now - because my sanity needs to cling to something- and I just love the McCords. No really, the way that Elizabeth will be on the phone with Henry and casually pull a "Nadine is giving me a face". I love the casual intimacy between them, yes the physical things we see is great but this family shows us a family on TV.
When I put this show on I expected a great distraction. But watching it is also a reminder of the grief this timeframe in my life always awakens. Because this show so beautifully conveys family and duty and service. And I just .... I love this show and the McCords.

[rosekiller babysitting Harry and Luna]
Evan: You need to tell Reg and James about the incident. Or James, at least
Barty: It wasn’t an incident, it was an accident. Just a sprained ankle
Evan: Incident or accident, it was still your fault, Bee
Barty: For the last time, it was not my fault
Luna: You’re in denial uncle Bat
Harry: [on crutches] Totally your fault
Barty: You just said you were fine
Barty: And it was NOT my fault
...
Barty: Oh my god this was my fault wasn’t it
Evan: Yup
Barty: Oh fuck Reggie’s gonna kill me isn’t he
Evan: I’m sure he won’t—
Barty: I BROKE HIS KID ROSIE, HES GONNA MURDER ME

Téa Leoni back on a TV screen!! I wasn’t expecting it at all!! 😃😃 On one of my favorite shows lately.
Also, she didn’t go far for the filming itself if they do shoot on location… 😂 According to Kara’s podcast Tim hadn’t seen the show but maybe he is watching now. 😜

i really hate reading them 99% of the time because they're so hard to do well. and because everyone else usually focuses on the things i find least interesting about it.
but it's sooooo fun to imagine what your favorite characters would do as feudal lords. it's a fascinating question: what would this character do with unlimited executive and probably military power over an area of land and its people? people who depended on them? would they be a good ruler? a bad one? would they take it seriously? do their inherent qualities make them better suited to that role than the modern era? or are they truly a product of the time and place they come from?
because I'm me, this thought exercise is a chance to daydream about "what if I held a gun to this character's head and forced them to get involved in politics?", really.
on one end of the scale you have anakin skywalker, who would....not....have done well as emperor, or frankly as any kind of feudal lord. maybe don't give him more power over life and death, or taxes, or food supplies. maybe don't.
on the other end of the scale, you have jed bartlet, who i truly believe would have been more comfortable with unilateral authority and a divine mandate. somebody make that man a king. let his staff profess their undying devotion to him on their knees, the way they so desperately, secretly wish they could in canon. i feel like it would Fix Them. Leo McGarry wants soooooo badly to swear his sword to Jed. you know it in your heart to be true.

"From the very first episode, Elizabeth is flanked by her ever-reliable, tirelessly loyal, and impeccably prepared assistant Blake Moran (played by Erich Bergen). The series initially coded his character in a way most will read as gay. It was all the Hollywood clichés: too coiffed, meticulously neat, even a bit of the stereotypical 'gay' accent. And yet the show curiously held back from embracing his seeming homosexuality. He did not call himself gay, we did not see him in any relationships, and his character consistently made a concerted effort to obfuscate the sex of the people he dated, a fact remarked upon by his peers. In time, we learn that this was a deliberate choice made by the writers, not to perpetuate the cowardly trope of having a queer character whose queerness exists only by inference, but to turn common sexuality assumptions on their head.
"In season three, we finally see Blake meet an ex-boyfriend at a bar, and the two get into an argument that at first appears to be over the fact that Blake refuses to own his sexuality as a gay man. But it turns out that Blake is actually bi, which his former lover rejects. The encounter upsets Blake so much that the usually private and even-keeled assistant holds up Secretary McCord’s motorcade to come out as bisexual. In a bi speech for the ages, he voices the pent-up frustrations so many bi people feel about being erased or misunderstood for not fitting neatly into a 'straight' or 'gay' binary. He says the words so many shows and films avoid: 'I’m bisexual.' He even calls out 'biphobia' by name. There’s a moment of uncertainty where he — and the audience — hold their breath to see how Elizabeth will react. She wordlessly steps out of the car and embraces him."
