#Mac issues

I just made the first ever post using my Reddit account to see if anyone knows what to do about this, but it fees worth putting here to. So. He is a list of things going wrong with my computer (copy pasted directly from my Reddit post):

- “i” key doesn’t work upon restart, instead the computer makes a little noise (I assume some sort of “error” or “you can’t do that” noise. It sounds like a little “plick!” type sound.) All other keys seem to work. Only appears as I start the computer up, happening while I’m logging in, hence I can’t see what characters are being input by working keys. May relate to next issue. Requires restart to fix.

- Keyboard randomly switches to special characters only. Requires restart for long fix, can be fixed for a couple minutes by toggling sticky keys on and off. Sticky keys trick only works sometimes. May be related to “i” key not working.

- Computer turns itself back on after I put it to sleep. My mom has reported this problem with her much newer Mac computer as well, but none of the others on this list.

- Computer doesn’t fall asleep naturally despite me having screensaver set to start after 1 minute of inactivity and display to fully shut off after 2 minutes, and to require password after 5 minutes. Only happens sometimes. Seemingly random, not affected by restart.

- When clicking between various open windows, window previously being used will disappear even thought it’s still shown as open by its toolbar icon. Clicking on the finder background also triggers this. If multiple finder folder windows are open, both/all with disappear when clicked off of, as well as when the red x button is clicked on one to close it. Requires restart to fix.

- Links in browsers such as google chrome cannot be opened, instead start automatically downloading. Requires restart to fix.

- Force quit window (from finder apple icon menu at top of screen) disappears after you quit the application you were attempting to quit, even if there are other applications still open.

- When something needs to be fixed via restart, and restart is clicked through the apple icon menu, restart initiates instantly instead of showing a pop up with a 1 minute countdown, as it would if the computer were behaving normally.

Additionally:

- If I’m using my phone (iPhone SE, running on iOS 16.6.1) and I have it open using safari, an icon shows up on my toolbar for google chrome saying it’s being used through my phone. I do not have the google chrome app on my phone. If I click the icon it does however open the correct link that is open on my phone, through google chrome. I do have safari still in my computer, I don’t think it can be removed, but I DO have chrome set to my default browser, so this may be an intended function. This does not change if I restart. I’ve also only noticed this today because I was charging my phone through my computer usb while at my desk, so it may only happen while my phone is plugged in.

- Often times, I will have to restart the computer between 1-3 times back-to-back before it works without these issues occurring. The last couple days it’s been a shorter amount of time without issues between each time I have to restart.

It’s a refurbished Mac desktop running on Ventura 13.6.1 as of when I’m writing this, I updated it today after ignoring the update prompt for a little while but the issues have not changed. I believe it was originally made in 2014, but I may remember incorrectly and I can’t find the original year in the “about this Mac” section.

This has been happening for months now, but it’s gotten worse over the last couple weeks, to the point where it’s hard to use for more than 5-10 minutes at a time without having to restart.

Any ideas? Personally, I think it might just be haunted.

and if I said that dennis’ insistence on being the breadwinner/provider despite literally being a pampered princess who dgaf about traditional roles of masculinity in every other regard (aside from ego) is because his mom only stayed with/chose frank for his wealth and dennis is highly aware that he’s difficult to love and unable to show his emotions openly so he has to be contributing something to the relationship materially in order to feel like he’s worth staying for… and mac grew up with parents who were extremely ambivalent to him and eachother so he has to overcompensate by proving his worth at every given moment and seeking praise/validation from people (and religious icons) who will never demonstrate the same amount of dedication to him but he has no idea how else to desperately keep himself close to those he loves other than by eroding himself into something they’ll approve of… dear god they’re both exactly what the other needs — someone who can’t and won’t leave them even if they try — and they don’t even see it…

Punch out locker room heacanons: minor circuit mishaps

Got a wee bit bored #ijbol I think the minor circuit locker room conditions would be ABYSMAL im talking flickering lights and easy - to - break - everything

The minor circuit locker room is a STATE

The moment disco kid saw he it he swore tears fell from his eyes

Joe always swears someone steals his stuff and kicks off, usually its king hippo who points out he was looking in the wrong locker the whole time

Kaiser is the dedicated janitor since the actual janitor seemingly quit ages ago

Disco tried to help but instead mixed the wrong chemicals together and made fucking mustard gas

King hippo has accidentally crushed almost everyones stuff (mac included, his water bottle exploded because of Hippo's foot)

Joe once found a spider the size of his palm and screamed so loudly that even Disco could hear it through his headphones

They all look out for eachother, Disco plays music in the background whilst everyone trains, Kaiser gives tips on how to move more efficiently in the ring, Joe helps hype everyone up and well Hippo, hippo makes sure everyone is fed after training of course

Disco listens to music with his head phones a bit too loudly... Kaiser has to remind him to turn it down unless he wants to end up partially deaf (kaiser is partially deaf)

When little Mac first joined, Joe saved him the least beaten up locker. It was missing a door and had a punch shaped dent which suspiciously aligned perfectly with kaiser's fist...

King hippo has a locker dedicated to storing food... No. He is NOT sharing said food unless he is in a good mood

When Mac is alone he steals food from Hippo's food locker, no one has caught him yet

One time, kaisers back cracked mid push up and it was so bad Disco and Joe thought he broke something

Mac has caught Disco singing in the showers and yes, Mac did record it. He threatens to show it to everyone whenever Disco tries to annoy him

One time Joe tripped over a misplaced tile on the floor and fell straight into a sink which ended up breaking off the wall and landed on his hand thus breaking it

Now Disco jokes that the sink was glass joe's 100th loss

A similar thing happened with kaiser but instead he sat on a bench and fucking broke it in half. Lets just say Disco found that the funniest thing ever

Disco doesnt have little "hehe" giggle oh nah Disco's laugh would have a beginning middle and end, he would charge up and unleash it, its not a laugh its a hearty roar.

Kaiser sneezes so loudly, sometimes Joe cant tell wether he is yelling something or actually sneezing.

Since king hippo can only roar, Mac learnt sign language to communicate with him, however the only thing he ever told Mac was that kaiser secretly isnt 42 he is 62 which Mac actually thought was true

"kaiser is it true your 62? I mean if you are then, thats impressive you look great for 62!"

"w-was?...."

Kaiser shaved his mustache off one time and until it grew back, no one looked at him in the eye

Joe takes long showers. Doesnt help when there is only 2 and one of them doesnt work because someone (Disco) made mustard gas in that one and everyone was told not to use it

Yesterday's translation weirdness:

What.

This is a completely wild reason to give why Conall might not be thrilled about having to behead Lugaid. It sets the whole thing up as a double kinslaying -- Lugaid kills Cú Chulainn, Conall kills Lugaid -- and it also makes no sense. Why would you use athair here? Aite/oide (foster-father) would be unexpected and surprising, but it would make sense... father, though?? Really?? How??

I looked it up in eDIL, but although it very occasionally gets used for non-familial relationships, it's extremely rare and seems to be limited to particular contexts that aren't what's going on here. Not that I know what's going on here. My best guess is that there's some confusion with Lugaid of the Red Stripes, who is sometimes depicted as Cú Chulainn's fosterson (and who does, notably, have three biological dads) (don't look up his family tree, it's all terrible). So, if you transferred that over, I could see how Cú Chulainn might be positioned in a paternal relationship towards Lugaid, even if using athair is a rogue choice and I would expect aite/oide. But I cannot see how Conall fits into this.

Gonna have to chase this one up, which means going through all the texts that Lugaid is in to figure out where this is coming from, which is a lot of texts. 🙃

is there any season that you'd say does the best (or worst) at character development for the gang? personally, i've always thought that season 1 did wonders in helping the audience understand the gang's individual characters (minus frank) right away, but i'm interested in your opinion on the topic

Season 10 absolutely, 100%. It’s my favourite season of Sunny (and one of my favourite seasons of television ever), especially for the fact that it does so much insane character work in its span of ten episodes.

I don’t want to discount seasons before it, there’s an insane amount of foundational work that should be mentioned, but Season 10 being a milestone they never thought they would reach really sticks out as a major turn in the idea that the Gang don’t “develop” as characters by making the Gang face their own devolution. I've written about how Misses the Boat touches on this on the Paddy's Pub Blog, but Season 10 really as a whole just turns a lot more inward to the characters.

Charlie Work rotates around one of the Gang's schemes while having quite literally nothing to do with the scheme at all and everything to do with Charlie's character. This is the perfect example as to how the whole season operates, pushing the characters ahead of the plots, the schemes are just background work to revolve around. (Really, this is how the show operates a chunk of the time, but Season 10 is really really telling you that.)

It's hard to talk about each individual character without spiralling and trying to hit every S10 episode for everyone, but in brief summary: Frank unearths his own childhood trauma and starts to understand he's running out of time here; Dennis is diagnosed and his mask starts slipping more and more as he's forced to face (and attempt to disregard) how he is seen by outsiders; Mac is no longer able to front to himself that he's into women and he destroys his relationship with his father one step further; Charlie really sees he's viewed as less-than by Mac and Dennis and grows much more persistent to (dis)prove Frank is his father; Dee is shown as an even more 'successful' predator than Dennis, though just as pathetic at each turn.

All of this is not only built off what their characters were, but really are the very central parts of their characters that they clearly keep in mind as we push into the later seasons. (Arguably every character is still grappling with these core issues except Mac.)

(Briefly on worst season for character development, I think 13 is kind of the obvious choice. While there are some things I think they did well and are built on later (i.e. Bathroom Problem), episodes like The Gang Wins the Big Game are a prime example of how Sunny does not work well when the whole basis of an episode has nothing to do with the characters and everything to do with the plot. There was really negative character work done there, imo.)

I think it's funny you mention Season 1 for character development, because while I think it’s so so insanely essential to watch (and understand) as a foundation for the show and who the characters become, those versions of the characters are pretty distant from the Gang to me. Season 1 reads very much as Rob’s original idea: these are the worst versions of themselves; characters, but still a little too clearly RCG. Season 2 took those guys and built on them to create actual characters outside of themselves as terrible people, but I don't see the Gang as fully formed individuals until ~S4 (which I think RCG have mostly (?) admitted as much on TASP, lol)

Obviously every season contributes a lot to the characters as we know them, and some do a lot more for certain characters than others, so these are just my personal opinions... But I will argue for the rest of time that Season 10 is that bitch (and the best example of who the characters are).
