Early 2000s Home - Download Here

Hey everyone! I've been really inspired lately by the nostalgic aesthetic pioneered by @awingedllama and I wanted to create a small family home that is set in the early 2000s. It includes three bedrooms and a bathroom. One bedroom decorated for parents, one for a teen or child, and another for an infant.

I only chose appliances and electronics that would make sense for that time period. That means fat TVs, VCRs, old Mac computers, and CD players. I think my favorite part of the house is the carpet with all the stains lol.

This is the first home I'm releasing from a save file project I'm working on for Newcrest. No idea how long it will take but I'm just enjoying building what inspires me. This build includes tons of cc but I've gone very maxis match lately and have used a lot of maxis items that I previously would've ignored, opening up a lot of new ideas for me :). Stay tuned for more.

My GIF Making process: Screen capturing using MPV player, Organizing files, 3 Sharpening settings, Basic Coloring PSD + Actions set

This is a very long post so heads up.

I’ll try to be as thorough and true as much as possible to the way I make my gifs (I already use Photoshop Actions which I’ve long since set up but now for this tutorial I’m reviewing them to show you the exact steps I’ve learned to create my gifs 😃) and present them to you in a semi-coherent way. Also, please bear with me since English is my second language.

First things first. Below are the things and tools we need to do this:

Downloaded 4K or 1080p quality videos (let’s all assume we know where to get these—especially for high definition movies and tv series—so this post doesn’t get removed, okay? 😛)

Adobe Photoshop CC or the CS versions can work as well, but full disclosure I haven’t created gifs using the CS versions since 2020. I’m currently using Adobe Photoshop 2024.

mpv player. Use mpv player to get those frames/screenshots or any other video player that has a screen grabber feature. I’ve used adapter for the longest time but I’ve switched to mpv because the press to screenshot feature while the video is playing has been a game changer not to mention ultimate time saver for me. For adapter you need to play it in another video player (like VLC player), to get the start and end timestamps of the scene you want to gif which takes me ages before I can even open Photoshop.

Anyway! Please stop reading this post for a moment and head over to this amazing tutorial by kylos. She perfectly tells you how to install and use mpv player, both for Mac and Windows users.

One thing I have to share though, I had a tough time when I updated my MacOS to Sonoma since MPV is suddenly either duplicating frames or when I delete the duplicates the player seems to be skipping frames :/ I searched and found a solution here, though it didn’t work for me lol. My workaround for this in the meantime is decreasing the speed down to 0.70 then start screenshotting—it’s not the same pre Sonoma update but it works so I’ll have to accept it rather than have jumpy looking gifs.

I want to share this little tip (sorry, this will only cater to Mac users) that I hope will be helpful for organizing the screenshots that MPV saved to the folder you have selected. Because believe me you don’t want to go through 1k+ of screenshots to select just 42-50 frames for your gif.

The Control + Command + N shortcut

This shortcut allows you to create a new folder from files you have pre-selected. As you can see below I have already created a couple of folders, and inside each folder I have selected screenshots that I want to include in one single gif. It's up to you how you want to divide yours, assuming you intend to create and post a Tumblr gifset rather than just one gif.

Another tip is making use of tags. Most of, if not all the time, I make supercorp gifs so I tag blue for Kara and red (or green) for Lena—just being ridiculously on brand and all that.

Before we finally open Photoshop, there's one more thing I want to say—I know, please bear with me for the third? fourth? time 😅

It's helpful to organize everything into their respective folders so you know the total number of items/frames you have. This way, you can add or delete excess or unnecessary shots before uploading them in Photoshop.

For example below there are 80 screenshots of Kara inside this folder and for a 1:1 (540 x 540 px) Tumblr gif, Photoshop can just work around with 42-50 max number of frames with color adjustments applied before it exceeds the 10 MB file size limit of Tumblr.

Sometimes I skip this step because it can be exhausting (haha) and include everything so I can decide visually which frames to keep later on. You'll understand what I mean later on. But it's important to keep the Tumblr 10 MB file size limit in mind. Fewer frames, or just the right amount of frames, is better.

So, with the screenshot organization out of the way, let's finally head over to Photoshop.

Giffing in Photoshop, yay!

Let’s begin by navigating to File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack…

The Load Layers window will appear. Click the Browse button next.

Find your chosen screenshots folder, press Command + A to select all files from that folder then click Open. Then click OK.

After importing and stacking your files, Photoshop should display the following view:

By the way, I'll be providing the clip I've used in this tutorial so if want to use them to follow along be my guest :)

If you haven't already opened your Timeline panel, navigate to Windows > Timeline.

Now, let's focus on the Timeline panel for the next couple of steps.

Click Create Video Timeline, then you’ll have this:

Now click the menu icon on the top right corner then go to Convert Frames > Make Frames from Clips

Still working on the Timeline panel, click the bottom left icon this time—the icon with the three tiny boxes—to Convert to Frame Animation

Select Make Frames From Layers from the top right corner menu button.

So now you have this:

Go and click the top right menu icon again to Select All Frames

Then click the small dropdown icon to set another value for Frame Delay. Select Other…

The best for me and for most is 0.05 but you can always play around and see what you think works for you.

Click the top right menu icon again to Reverse Frames.

I think Photoshop has long since fixed this issue but usually the first animation frame is empty so I just delete it but now going through all these steps there seems to be none of that but anyways, the delete icon is the last one among the line of feature buttons at the bottom part of the Timeline panel.

Yay, now we can have our first proper GIF preview of a thirsty Lena 😜

Press spacebar to watch your gif play for the very first time! After an hour and half of selecting and cutting off screenshots! 😛 Play it some more. No really, I’m serious. I do this so even as early (lol) as this part in the gif making process, I can see which frames I can/should delete to be within the 10 MB file size limit. You can also do it at the end of course 🙂

Now, let’s go to the next important steps of this tutorial post which I’ve numbered below.

Crop and resize to meet Tumblr's required dimensions. The width value should be either 540px, 268px, or 177px.

Convert the gif to a Smart Object for sharpening.

Apply lighting and basic color adjustments before the heavy coloring. I will be sharing the base adjustments layers I use for my gifs 😃.

1. Crop and Resize

Click on the Crop tool (shortcut: the C key)

I like my GIFs big so I always set this to 1:1 ratio if the scene allows it. Press the Enter key after selecting the area of the frame that you want to keep.

Side note: If you find that after cropping, you want to adjust the image to the left or another direction, simply unselect the Delete Cropped Pixels option. This way, you will still have the whole frame area available to crop again as needed and as you prefer.

Now we need to resize our gif and the shortcut for that is Command + Opt + I. Type in 540 as the width measurement, then the height will automatically change to follow the ratio you’ve set while cropping.

540 x 540 px for 1:1

540 x 405 px for 4:3

540 x 304 px for 16:9

For the Resample value I prefer Bilinear—but you can always select the other options to see what you like best.

Click OK. Then Command + 0 and Command + - to properly view the those 540 pixels.

Now we get to the exciting part :) the sharpen settings!

2. Sharpen

First we need to have all these layers “compressed” intro a single smart object from which we can apply filters to.

Select this little button on the the bottom left corner of the Timeline panel.

Select > All Layers

Then go to Filter > Convert for Smart Filters

Just click OK when a pop-up shows up.

Now you should have this view on the Layers panel:

Now I have 3 sharpen settings to share but I’ll have download links to the Action packs at the end of this long ass tutorial so if you want to skip ahead, feel free to do so.

Sharpen v1

Go to Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen…

Below are my settings. I don’t adjust anything under Shadows/Highlights.

Amount: 500

Radius: 0.4

Click OK then do another Smart Sharpen but this time with the below adjustments.

Amount: 12

Radius: 10.0

As you can see Lena’s beautiful eyes are “popping out” now with these filters applied. Click OK.

Now we need to Convert to Frame Animation. Follow the steps below.

Click on the menu icon at the top right corner of the Timeline panel, then click Convert Frames > Flatten Frames into Clips

Then Convert Frames > Convert to Frame Animation

One more click to Make Frames From Layers

Delete the first frame then Select All then Set Frame Delay to 0.05

and there you have it! Play your GIF and make sure it’s just around 42-50 frames. This is the time to select and delete.

To preview and save your GIF go to File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)…

Below are my Export settings. Make sure to have the file size around 9.2 MB to 9.4 MB max and not exactly 10 MB.

This time I got away with 55 frames but this is because I haven’t applied lighting and color adjustments yet and not to mention the smart sharpen settings aren't to heavy so let’s take that into consideration.

Go back to this part of the tutorial and apply the v2 settings.

Smart Sharpen 1:

Amount: 500

Radius: 0.3

Smart Sharpen 2:

Amount: 20

Radius: 0.5

We’re adding a new type of Filter which is Reduce Noise (Filter > Noise > Reduce Noise...) with the below settings.

Then one last Smart Sharpen:

Amount: 500

Radius: 0.3

Your Layers panel should look like this:

Then do the Convert to Frames Animation section again and see below preview.

So for the next few weeks, Jungkook came in after practice to work on his assignments with you. He'd usually be hot and sweaty but somehow still smell good. His long hair is usually tied up with the shortest pieces escaping in the back. His hands were something you'd stare at often. His hands were big and his fingers were long and thick you'd think about how they'd feel inside you, you're fingers were nothing compared to his. "Hey, Y/n?" He says turning back and walking to the desk leaning over it. "I'm having this party tonight, I just thought maybe you'd want to come. I never see you anywhere but here. You don't even have to stay, you know, if that's not your thing." He says. He's right, parties are very far from 'your thing' but you wanted to see him outside of work, and he was inviting you. You ponder for a moment, no homework to be done, you cleaned your apartment the morning prior. Tonight you could choose you and your comfort movie, or some alcohol and a hot guy.

"Umm. Yeah, I'll stop by." You say with a small smile. He flashes you a small smile and wink. "I'll keep my eye out for you. I'll send my address." He turns leaving and you aren't sure if you're actually prepared for what you've signed up for.

"I don’t think beer pong is my thing." You say looking toward the group of people looking at you and Jungkook. He waves them away telling them to go on without him. 

"Oh, that’s fine. Minecraft?" He asked his eyes bright, he looked happy to see you. You think back to the conversation you had with the boys at the front door. One of them said something about Jungkook having a crush on you. It had to be the alcohol in their systems because in no way did this man have a crush on me. He never even looked at you that way. "I’m down." He nods grabbing your hand once more and rushing up the stairs. You stop at his door as he pulls out a key and unlocks it. He walks in and you follow in behind him. "Welcome to my room, pretty cool right?" He asks with a smile. His room was decorated with band posters and tapestry, something you would’ve never expected from him. "It’s dope, I didn’t know you were into Mac." You say pointing to the Mac Miller poster above his bed. "The man’s a genius, anyone who doesn’t think the same has to be deaf." You chuckle at his joke, "Sit anywhere, you want the beanbag?" He asked pointing to the blue one in the corner. You nod and he quickly drags it over for you to sit. "I’m glad you came." He spoke turning on his TV and setting up the controller handing one to you, then finally sitting beside you. "I’ve been wanting to get to know you more, I thought maybe you thought I was like those other horrible frat guys. I just suck at math and have a hard time saying no." He chuckles and you join him. "I was shocked you invited me, I don’t usually get invited to things like this. Especially by guys like you." He hums, "Guys like me?" He questioned. "I just mean, every girl is dying to get to know you. You wanting to get to know me is a first." He pouts. "I’m kinda overlooked until someone is paying to do their bio projects." You laugh. "Well, I’m not using you, I promise. I got a head start on my math study guide for the exam. Just if you were curious." You nod. 

"So what do you want to know about me?" You ask. "Everything, I guess. What’s your favorite movie?" He asks to break the ice. "The Truman Show." You respond simply. "No fucking way…" He almost shouts. He quickly rolls up his sleeve revealing a fresh tattoo with the famous quote. 

"And in case I don’t see you…" He starts.

"Good morning, Afternoon, and Goodnight." You finish. "See I knew you were cool." He says nudging your shoulder. "I try but my exterior doesn’t scream ‘cool girl’ Even your friends called me a nerd." You laugh but Jungkook doesn’t. "Who?" He snaps his neck toward you. "Jimin, I think his name was." He shakes his head. "He’s an idiot and you’re beautiful." He says quickly. You blush at his compliment. "Thank you." You say softly.

" I mean it." He says surely. "I’m sorry about them, they’re just mad I want someone who cares about their future instead of someone who’s only into frat guys for status." He realizes after he finishes his sentence that he confessed to you but tries to play it cool. Inside that man is shitting himself. 

"So, it’s true?" He hums at your question. "What?" He tries to act clueless. "You like me?" He swallows thickly. "I do. I think you’re pretty and smart, and you’re witty. I like that. You are the only cute girl with some brain cells on this campus, I’m sure of it." You laugh. "Well, I like you too. I just think we’re from two different worlds almost." He sighs, you said the one thing he feared. "I think we’re more similar than you think." He says reassuring you. "Maybe." You say looking at him. "I was staring at you. Well, your hands." He tilts his head confused. "Most times when you think I’m daydreaming I was staring at you. God that sounds weird." He sits in front of you. His eyes were soft and warm. Then you suddenly gain the courage to do something you never thought you would. You sit on the ground in front of him, and he flashes a cute smile. You peck his lips quickly. You almost instantly regret it after he says nothing. His eyes are stuck on you and he’s unreadable. He quickly pecks you back and stays close to you. A small smile grows on your face. "You are so cute." He says. Your cheeks flush. He kisses you again this time deeper. His lips are soft and sweet from his chapstick. You’ve never made out with anyone before but you follow his lead, kissing his lips as hungrily as he kisses yours. 

"You’re such a good kisser." He says breaking the kiss. "Really? I’ve actually never done this before." His eyes widened. "You could’ve fooled me, you’re a natural." He says before pecking your lips one last time. "Yeah, I’ve never done anything with anyone before. I told you I’m not the hottest thing smoking." You joke. this is a good website for pirating books thats a lot easier than looking for vk epubs, there are pdfs and epubs for a LOT of books and the site is the easiest to use and most comprehensive of the ones that I've found

the free kindle app (don't pay for amazon kindle) lets you send these files to all of you devices with the kindle app at the same time, you can use this site or find the email addresses for your devices in your amazon account (this is amazon tutorial for how to use the send to kindle email), the files are identical to ebooks that you buy for kindle, you can also upload any epub or pdf files from your device to google books and read them there exactly the same

this is a good site for reading any articles that are behind a paywall for free, not sure it if works with academic journals and papers but it definitely works for stuff like the nyt

this is the classic and one of the best sites for pirating movies, tv shows, video games, books, and more, you will need to have a torrent installed to download and use these files, I use utorrent (free)

this is a site that's good for a lot of stuff, its a nonproft free library type program, the book downloads do not work with the kindle app even if the file type is correct but the pdfs can be opened normally with any pdf reader

this is a cracked spotify apk, I think this one might be for android only and this is a link to spotiflyer which is an app that lets you pirate songs from spotify, youtube, and a few others to put on an mp3 player or flashdrive or cd or just to have them downloaded but separate from the spotify app, works on android, windows and mac

this is a very detailed step by step tutorial on getting ALL of the sims 4 dlc for free (it takes a LONG time to download the actual dlc, set aside at least 12 hours where you won't need to restart or turn off your computer but it works perfectly) you will need a torrent and file extractor but the tutorial links to reliable free apps for both

Announced by SEGA, Sonic Dream Team, a new Sonic the Hedgehog game, exclusive for the Apple Arcade platform, is on the way.

Developed by SEGA HARDlight, the same developers of Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle, Sonic Dream Team is a new 3D action-platformer coming exclusively to Apple Arcade, Apple’s gaming subscription service exclusive to Apple products, with the title being playable across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV.

Sunday night dinners were Halstead tradition and you liked to think there was nothing that would stop it. That was until one of your brothers had a work emergency and was called in. For the last two weeks, one of your brothers couldn't make it, so as a way of making up for it, they both made sure to be there this Sunday.

As a way of making up got it, Will promised to make mac and cheese and garlic bread. You grinned and claimed it was the best winter comfort food. Jay rolled his eyes, for reasons beyond you he wasn't the biggest fan of Mac and Cheese. He claimed it was because it was all you ate when you were younger and he got sick of only eating it for days on end.

You rolled your eyes, "You can't be related to me."

You were sandwiched between both of your brothers on the couch, watching the game with dinner on your lap. You were tucked under a blanket with fluffy socks and comfy PJ pants on. Jay and Will were focused entirely on the hockey game on the TV. You were chewing on a piece of garlic bread when Jay and Will started cheering at the screen.

You felt like your soul left your body from the fright. You should have been expecting them to start cheering, but you were too engrossed in your garlic bread to realize. You started to chuckle, trying to clear your throat of the garlic bread that had lodged there when you had gasped from the shock.

Will and Jay didn't seem to notice, you were always kind of jumpy. Especially when they started cheering loudly for their team. You coughed a few more times, only succeeding in getting the bread stuck in your throat more. You started to panic, now the bread was choking you fully, blocking the air you kept gasping for.

You coughed a few more times, grabbing Wills forearm and clenching tightly.

"You okay?" Will asked, giving you a few hard pats on the back.

You shook your head, grabbing your chest as your throat started to burn.

"Y/N?" Jay asked, turning his full attention to you and trying to sooth you with a hand on your back.

You were sure the world was moving slowly, the last few seconds were dragging so excruciating slow. Will started to get more worried when you stopped coughing, not gasping at all. He quickly got to his feet, pulling you up off the couch and trying to dislodge the bread with the heimlich. In the process you were sure he moved all of your organs but it was a fleeting thought that flashed through your oxygen deprived mind.

"Will, it's not working," Jay said, standing in front of you with a terrified look.

"I know, Jay," Will said back, just as panicked, "I know."

By now, you were sure thing were slowing down. In the corner of your eyes you could see the hockey game continuing, but it was like the the player were moving at half the speed they normally did. The sounds of the room started the echo and distort, your brain fighting your lungs for oxygen and not able to win.

Eventually, Wil gave up on the heimlich. Feeling you grow more and more limp in his arms. His brain was clouded with his own panic, he had to fight himself to help you and not freeze in terror. He lay you down on the ground, watching your face that was filled with panic.

He pressed two fingers to your neck, feeling your racing pulse beneath his fingertips.

"Jay," Will called, "I need you to get me a knife and a pen."

Jay hesitated, "A pen-?"

"Yes!" Will shouted back, "Just do it!"

Jay rushed out of the room. WIll could hear him frantically opening drawers and rummaging through them. Moments later he came back with the knife and pen, shoving the knife towards Will and waiting for his further instructions.

Jay had seen enough things on the job to know what was coming next. He watched you pass out, completely limp on the floor at his knees. Will ordered him to unscrew the pen, then get on the phone with 911 and get an ambulance there straight away.

Jay did what he was told, watching as Will cranked his little sister with the little supplies he had on hand. When Will had finished his makeshift crank, he breathed a few breathes into the pen to try prompt your body to breathe for itself.

What felt like an entirenity later there was a loud knock on the door. Jay raced to the door to let the two paramedics in.

"Dr Halstead?" Brett asked, shocked to see him hovering over his little sisters limp body.

Will started to rattle off what had happened, but he stumbled over his words unable to fully explain. He worked in a high pressure environment every day but now he was struggling to get the words out to help his own sister. Brett and Violet weren't at all fazed, just immediately started working. Jay and Will helped them transfer you to the stretcher then the ambulance.

Will climbed into the back, vaguely registering Jay say he would follow in his truck. Will's mind was racing, he wasn't sure exactly how long it took before he could get you oxygen again. It felt like forever, but it couldn't have been more than 4 minutes. What if it was 5? Will knew the likelihood of a hypoxic brain injury increased significantly after 3 minutes, he had no idea how this would turn out.

The drive to Med felt even slower, Will fumbled with his phone to call ahead to Maggie, knowing she would have things prepared.

"Hey Will," Maggie answered, the sounds of the ED almost overpowering her voice.

"Maggie," Will's voice broke, "i- uh"

Will had to pause, compose himself.

"I'm on the way with Y/n, she- uh, she choked. I need abrams," Will stuttered.

Maggie was silent on the other end for a few seconds, "How far out are you?"

Will relayed the question to Brett in the front, who called back, "4 minutes!"

"We'll be ready, Will," Maggie said.

Jay hadn't left your bedside the whole night. After getting you to med, Dr Abrams had completed a neurological exam that had given Jay a sickening sense of Deja Vu. It felt so much like what they had gone through with your dad. You had only been 6 when he had died, you knew nothing about what was happening. Jay and Will had to try and shelter you from it all. But now Jay had the same sinking feeling.

The only thing that was keeping him sane was the way Dr Abrams had said your results were promising.

Will came and stayed for a few hours, before an emergency had Ms Goodwin asking for his help in the ED. It didn't bother Jay, he knew Will was just outside the doors should he need him.

It was almost 3 in the morning when the monitors started beeping in a strange symphony. Jay looked over at the array of screens, but he knew nothing about what was going on. He got up quickly, pulling open the door and calling for Maggie.

Maggie took one look and sent over Dr Archer, ordering himaroudn while she paged Abrams.

Dr Archer took one look at the screens and declared, "She's overbreathing the vent."

He headed to the screen nearby, punching in some numbers or whatever he needed to do. Jay was more focused on you and how you were. He only looked up when Will came bounding into the room followed by Dr Abrams.

They conversed and decided on trialing taking you off the ventilator, knowing there would be a risk but ultimately it was worth it. Extubation went well, Dr Archer sutured the hastily cut crank and promised to check in later. Abrams had hovered as well, he mentioned something about a test but that he would have to transfer you to the neuro floor to run it.

Jay nodded along but understood little of what was being said. Will handled the doctor talk, just gently guiding Jay about what was happening once everyone had left the room.

Will stood at the end of the bed, "Doesn't this give you Deja Vu?"

Jay looked from your peaceful face and then to Will, "I can't do this again, Will. I can't."

Will nodded, he walked around the bed and pressed a hand to your forehead, smoothing back your hair from your face, "I won't let it."

When you finally came round your brothers had to use every ounce self control not to pull you into the tightest hug.

You smiled and gave a little finger wave, but were too exhausted to do much else. Jay pressed a kiss to your forehead, muttering about being relieved that you were okay. You let out a quiet reply but couldn't muster much of an answer.

Will did pull you into a gentle hug, holding you close but being careful not to squash you. He pulled away with a big grin, you could see the relief in his eyes.

Will relayed information to you about how Dr Abrams wanted to observe you overnight on the Neuro floor but that hopefully you would be able to. gohome soon after. You were much too exhausted to complain or argue, just nodding along and letting them transfer you upstairs.

Jay refused to leave your side, he stayed right beside you for as long as he could. You had gone back to sleep after being transferred and Jay hovered the whole time holding your hand or stroking your hair off your face.

Will came in at 5 am with coffees, dressed for his upcoming shift.

"How is she?" He asked, handing his brother the coffee.

Jay sighed, "Tired but okay I think."

Will nodded, taking a seat opposite Jay and looking over you, "She'll be okay."

Jay could only nod.

Your brothers watched you sleep for a few more moments before Dr Abrams came in and interrupted the peace.

"Dr Halstead," Dr Abrams started. It woke you up with a fright, the sudden noise clearing the drowsiness from your brain.

"Hey, hey," Will grabbed your hand and cradled your cheek with his other hand, "It's okay. Take it easy."

Will smiled as you relaxed again, sucking in a deep breath.

You let out a small yawn, "Sorry, i just... got..."

Will frowned as you paused in the middle of your sentence, staring off into space instead of looking at him like you were before.

"Y/N?" he said, trying to draw your attention back to him.

After a few seconds you blinked a few times, looking back at your brother and frowning, "What?"

Will looked startled, he looked from you to Dr Abrams, who looked just as surprised as Will.

Abrams came around the bed and stood at your side, "Y/N, can you tell me what just happened?"

You just looked at him with a frown.

Abrams gestured for Will to follow him out of the room, "I think what we just witnessed was an absence seizure."

Will scrubbed a hand down his face, "So what do we do?"

"We do an EEG, hope that it's a temporary symptom of the Anoxic Injury."

"But you don't think it's temporary do you," Will pressed. He worked with Abrams enough to know his bad news face.

"I don't," Abrams confirmed, "I've had patients who have TBI's have epileptic seizures."

Will couldn't form words, unable to even respond to Dr Abrams.

"Will," Jay stepped out of the room, closing the door behind him and crossing his arms sternly. "What's going on?"

You weren’t feeling well so you didn’t go to the devils game. That didn’t stop you from watching it on TV and seeing the devils lose miserably. You get to work to making Nico a comfort food snack, run a bath, and wait for him to arrive…essentially just how you would comfort him when he’s upset after a loss.

Comforting Nico After A Loss

The sound of the television echoed through your living room as you sat curled up on the couch, a blanket wrapped around you like a cocoon. You hadn’t felt well enough to go to the game, but you couldn’t bring yourself to miss watching it from home. As the final buzzer sounded, you winced at the sight of the Devils’ disappointing loss. You could see the frustration etched on the players’ faces, especially Nico’s.

You sighed, feeling a pang of sympathy for him. You knew how much he invested emotionally in every game, and it hurt to think about how upset he must be. Determined to lift his spirits, you got up from the couch, your energy slightly renewed by the idea of comforting him after the game.

Heading to the kitchen, you pulled out the ingredients to make his favorite comfort food: mac and cheese with crispy bacon bits and a sprinkle of green onions. As the water boiled, you chopped the bacon, letting the savory aroma fill the air. Cooking always calmed you, and you hoped the familiar scents would bring a smile to Nico’s face later.

While the macaroni boiled, you prepared a tray with some snacks—a couple of his favorite chocolate bars and a cold soda. Once the mac and cheese was ready, you plated it up beautifully, ensuring it looked as comforting as it tasted.

With the food ready, you moved to the bathroom, filling the tub with warm water and pouring in some lavender bath oil. The scent wafted through the air, creating a tranquil atmosphere. You lit a couple of candles and dimmed the lights, making it a cozy sanctuary.

With everything prepared, you settled onto the couch, glancing at the clock. Nico would be home soon. You couldn’t wait to see him, to wrap your arms around him and let him know he was supported, even on a tough night like this.

Just as you were about to lose yourself in thought, you heard the sound of the door opening. Your heart skipped a beat as you jumped up, excitement bubbling within you. Nico walked in, his expression tired but softening the moment he saw you.

“Hey,” you said, a gentle smile breaking across your face. "I'm sorry."

He dropped his bag on the floor and ran a hand through his tousled hair, his features showing the weight of disappointment. “I'm glad you weren't there for that. We didn’t play well.”

You walked over, pulling him into a warm embrace. He sighed, leaning into you, and you could feel the tension in his body begin to melt away.

“I made you some comfort food,” you said softly, pulling back to look into his eyes. “And I thought you might want to unwind in a bath.”

A flicker of surprise crossed his face. “You didn’t have to do all this.”

“I wanted to,” you replied, guiding him toward the kitchen. “You always put so much into the game. It’s okay to feel upset, and I’m here to help you feel better.”

He smiled, a genuine warmth in his gaze. “You always know how to make me feel better.”

You both sat down at the table, and you served him the mac and cheese, watching as his eyes lit up with appreciation. “This looks amazing. Thank you,” he said, taking a bite and sighing contentedly. “You really know how to cheer me up.”

“I try my best,” you replied, feeling a swell of happiness at his reaction. You chatted about the game, listening as he expressed his frustrations. It felt good to be there for him, offering support and understanding.

After he finished eating, you led him to the bathroom, where the warm water and lavender scent awaited him. “Take your time. I’ll be right here if you need anything,” you said, watching as he slipped into the tub, a look of relief washing over his face.

As he settled in, you sat on the edge, running your fingers gently through his hair. “You played your heart out, Nico. You can’t let one loss define you.”

He smiled softly, looking up at you with gratitude. “Thanks for reminding me of that. I’m really lucky to have you.”

You leaned down, placing a tender kiss on his forehead. “You’re never alone in this. I’ll always be here to support you.”

With the warm bath and your presence, you could see the tension slowly fading from his shoulders. The evening stretched on as you talked, shared laughter, and wrapped him in love, knowing that no matter how the games went, you’d always find ways to comfort each other.

jin looked you up and down before dropping a quick kiss to your lips. you were wearing nothing but a sports bra and tiny biker shorts. you didn't think anything of it. you were hot and in the comfort of your own home. you went back to searching for your hdmi cord. you could tell by the look on his face that he was gonna say something, but you weren't in the mood to wait around and figure out what that was. closed mouths don't get fed.

“sooooo… do you always answer the door like that?” he called from the kitchen.

you sighed heavily, eyes rolling to the back of your skull. “why you starting with me this early in the morning?”

he walked back into the living room watching you scour through your junk drawers. “it’s 3 in the afternoon.”

you glared at him, before bending down to look under your couch. you wouldn't have told him he could come over if you knew he was going to be annoying, which was on you really because his entire personality was built off the fact that he played too much.

"so if there was a percentage of times you opened the door wearing this, would you put it in the 40-50 range or 20-30 or?"

you stood back up, hand on hip, head tilted slightly, just radiating attitude. "a lot of people leave the house just like this. what's wrong with it?"

he shrugged. "nothing. it's just that you don't."

and he was right. you didn't. you had a lot more assets, so the line between cute and slutty was a bit thinner. and you had your insecurities. you accepted what your mama gave you and carried it with pride, but that didn’t mean you always wanted everyone to see it. right now, though, you were hot and irritable. the only thing you cared about was cooling down and finding that stupid cord. didn't have time for whatever this shakedown was. "oh my god. why does it matter?" he blinked at you and you narrowed your eyes, connecting the dots. "you jealous or something?"

"at the thought of someone seeing you like this? incredibly."

you walked over to him and put your hands on his shoulders, hoping to shake some sense into him. “jin, the only reason i answered the door like this is because i knew it was you! i'm not parading around in my underwear for any other person. right now, i'm not even parading around in my underwear for you! i'm just hot!"

"yes, you are," he said, nonchalantly wrapping his arms around your waist.

you whined, trying to push him off of you. you were wholly not in the mood for him to start flirting with you, and the last thing you needed was more body heat. "no. jin. i can't."

"relax. let me hold you." and there was just something about the tone of his voice that made you stop squirming. "what are you looking for?"

"my hdmi cord. i wanna hook my hp up to the tv."

"why don't you just airplay it from your mac?"

there he goes questioning you again. "because i plan on using it. now can you let me go?" you started pushing at him again. you probably could've found it by now had he not been so insistent on interrogating you.

"i said, relax," he scolded, sliding his hands down until they reached your butt, squeezing it firmly. you gasped. he removed one hand and gripped your chin with his fingers forcing you to look at him. "go sit down."

"but-"

"we'll just use the one you have connected to your dvd player for now, and i'll buy you another one later."

you opened your mouth ready to interject, but it was actually a good plan and you were mad you didn't think of it first. it would've saved you a whole lot of irritation. then again that's why jin was your boyfriend. not because he was a self proclaimed worldwide handsome but because he added value to your life. so, you closed your mouth back, dropping your lips into a pout, and did what he told you to do while he wandered into the kitchen.

he came back out with a pint of your favorite ice cream and you really could've cried. a sweet treat was just what you needed. you reached your arms up at him, making grabby hands. he thrusted the ice cream out to you, but you bypassed it reaching for the collar of his shirt instead, tugging him toward you to press a series of kisses on his lips. "thank you. thank you. thank you." yet, another reason why he was your boyfriend. he took care of you.

he giggled, taking the seat next to you. "you're welcome."

"when did you even get this?"

"i had a whole bag of snacks when i came in. you were just too busy being mean to notice."

"heyyyy... i was not being mean," you lied.

"you definitely were. but it's okay i expected it."

you furrowed your brows. "why?"

he gripped your wrist, bringing the spoonful of ice cream you were about to eat to his mouth before speaking. "after you cancelled our date, i checked your period tracker, and saw that you're supposed to get it in 2 days. that's why i wanted to come over anyway. had to make sure you were good."

you rolled your eyes again. you forgot he did that. you don't know how seeing as every time he realized you were on he went through the checklist his app had asking you how heavy your flow was and what other symptoms you were having. it was oddly sweet in the most awkward of ways.

"what? it's helpful!" he defended.

"it is," you agreed, handing him the ice cream and snuggling into his side now that you didn't feel like you were burning alive.

he shook his head at your switch up. you were sure you were a pain in his neck, but he loved it. he loved you. he was the only man you'd met that could handle you. "what did you want to watch that was so important you were ready to tear your house apart?"

a sweet smile spread across your lips. "run bts."

Unfortunately, in a modern AU (in which he's a younger millennial—like almost Gen Z, but not quite), I do think Steve Harrington would fuck up a strawberry banana Elf Bar or even a spearmint one. And he'd probably, honestly, love a mango Whiteclaw.

Also, he'd like Halo Top ice cream (probably chocolate mocha chip, mint chip, or sea salt caramel) because it's good for him, even though he finishes the whole pint in one go. And then Robin catches him in his bedroom puffing away no less than thirty minutes afterwards.

He'd finish a whole season of Love Island in his bedroom. He'd fucking adore Tame Impala and MGMT and TV Girl and Mac DeMarco. He'd probably listen to true crime podcasts with Robin; and he's fucking obsessed with Dateline. He'd probably have a heinous Twitter account, only used to look at his favorite basketball players, his favorite musicians, and way too much porn. He was on Vine when it was in its prime, and constantly brags about it, always making niche references that barely anybody understands—and if they do understand, they think he's cringe. Yeah, he probably had a 2015 Tumblr phase and he probably kept all his hipster clothes, shoved in a cardboard box in the back of his closet. He'd probably get offended if somebody told him his side part was outdated. And he'd cling to Rugrats with his fucking life.

Steve Harrington would be such a big loser. But he'd be like a cool loser. Like the manager from your first waiter/waitressing gig. He'd probably, on the same note of being manager, let his employees get away with free meals with a wink. And he'd probably drive around in a used sedan Subaru from like 2006 because he used all of his "Daddy's money" for college to pursue a degree in marketing/advertising he didn't even want. And he still had to pay out of pocket for his dining hall pass, textbooks, and dormitory. In fact, he's going back to school via community college to head start a degree in secondary education; and he constantly chastises himself because he should've just gone this route the first time, screw his dad's opinions.

He has a scraggly, one-eyed dog he rescued from the pound. And he adores it with his whole soul. And he shares an apartment with Robin. And they get up to all kinds of shenanigans.

But GOD he would be such a loser (affectionately).

I feel like a recent years have shown that fan reaction has influenced the way Sega handles Sonic in some ways. Frontiers for example in a lot of ways feels like a reaction to complain. So a lot of fans have had about mainline Sonic games.

With that said what do you think about Sega making a multi-character 3D action game Sonic and then slapping it on a platform that has some of the least amount of player reach despite being a mainline platform?

I would be very curious to know more about the development behind Dream Team for sure, but as far as I'm aware the game was more than likely made specifically for Apple Arcade from the very start with heavy involvement from Apple, rather than being a project Sega was shopping around that just so happened to end up as an Apple exclusive.

I have to assume that this game would not exist at all if it wasn't an Apple Arcade project. Hardlight is very much Sega's mobile game division first and foremost, so it's unlikely (if not impossible) that Sega would've had them working on a 3D Sonic platformer for consoles and PC when that's Sonic Team's job. And Apple Arcade's subscription revenue is basically the only home for mobile games that aren't chock full of ads, microtransactions, and wait timers these days. So while it could theoretically get ported elsewhere in the future, it's unlikely that Dream Team ever would've gotten made for any other platform.

Like, there are already two Sonic games on Apple Arcade. Sonic Racing (based off of TSR) was one of the earliest releases for the service and has always been heavily promoted as one of Apple Arcade's flagship games. Later they also did Sonic Dash+, a version of the existing endless runner game with the ads and microtransactions stripped out. I have to assume that these games have done well on Apple Arcade, and Apple simply looked at that and went "Hey, what if we got them to make us an ORIGINAL Sonic game?" Apple Arcade also appeals pretty heavily to parents who want their kids to have something to play on their iPads that isn't cram full of microtransactions, and Sonic remains extremely popular with kids.

But beyond that, why they landed on a full 3D platformer with SIX playable characters, some amount of story, and a new style of level design that takes some influence from skate parks? Who knows. Maybe some folks at Sega Hardlight were just dying to make something like that, and the Apple gig was their opportunity to make it happen after so many years being stuck working on glorified Skinner boxes. Or maybe Apple thought a 3D platformer would be good to diversify their portfolio. Again, I'd be very curious to learn more

(Also, honestly, as annoyed as I am that I have to play Dream Team on my iPad instead of my PC or a console, I do find the talking point that "no one will be able to play it" extremely silly. There are billions of iPhones, iPads, Mac computers, and to a lesser extent Apple TVs out there. Billions. With a B. Apple Arcade reportedly had over 100 million users last year. That's quadruple the number of subscribers Game Pass had, even though if you asked the average gamer they'd probably assume Game Pass was the more popular one! Exclusivity is always frustrating, and I sympathize with folks annoyed that they don't have any devices that can play it, but the fandom deciding that "only six people will be able to play this" is completely divorced from reality.)

Dennis Burkley in the 1970s (Part 2)

In 1977: Dennis Burkley was a regular on Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman for 85 episodes. It is difficult to find any photos.

He appeared on another episode of The Rockford Files as a Nazi.

He was in Eight is Enough as a guy who got sucker-punched at a dance.

Dennis Burkley was in a TV Movie about a wrestler called Mad Bull, starring Alex Karras, who looks kind of puny next to his co-stars. Richard Karron is the big, hairy guy.

In 1977 Burkley also appeared in TV Movie Delta County, U.S.A., Quincy, M.E., The Oregon Trail and the Henry Winkler and Sally Field movie Heroes. (no photos)

 After Mary Hartman ended and the title character left the series, Dennis Burkley continued as Mac under the new title Forever Fernwood for 135 shows into 1978.

In 1978 he plays a Deputy in the sci-fi, alien invasion movie Laserblast.

He appeared on an episode of Baretta and on failed TV show Another Day.

He also appeared on Maude again as Congressional aid Sam Dickey. This was the last season of Maude as Bea Arthur quit the series. Norman Lear had planned to continue the Maude series as her being a Congresswoman and Dennis’ character Sam Dickey would be a regular. Instead, he developed a show starring John Amos as a black Congressman called Onward and Upward. John Amos had problems with the script and quit.

Lear reworked the show with Cleavon Little as the lead retitled Mr. Dugan. They were set to air in 1979, but a screening for actual black Congressmen was too insulting for them and the show was scrapped again.

The show was retooled again, now starring Bill Macy as a former pro football player becoming a congressman. Bill Macy, really? Why not make Dennis the former Pro-football player? The show was now entitled Hanging In. Dennis Burkley played his character, but the show lasted only 4 episodes.

Also in 1979, he appeared in his 3rd episode of The Rockford Files as a biker.
