Finally finished the revamp of the boys abilities!!! HAZAAAAA!! I hope I never have to do this ever again *flops down* It’s illegal how long this took and how difficult it was. You have no idea how I had to scour every piece or snippet I had ever written about my boys to make this list as accurate as possible… It may still be a bit inaccurate with some stuff missing or something I’ll edit those when the time comes. This all may not be grammatically correct but I don’t really care.
Anyways! If you wanna see the difference, the old inaccurate post is here
Time to cast some magic and see what we’ll get! ✨
✨ ✨
(UT)
Sans:
Shortcuts: Traverse the Void in a dimensional pocket and reappear in another place within a blink of an eye. He needs to know what the desired location he wants to go to looks like and where it is on the map. Having been at the location before makes traversing more smooth and allows him to take multiple others with him.
Stat check: CHECK further than a normal monster can and see the ATK, DEF, LV and HP of the target.
Gravity manipulation: Turn the SOUL blue to push it to the ground or throw it around, engulf the object with magic to move it around without needing to touch it. Needs to keep it in his field of vision to work.
Bone attack control: Manifest bones in all kinds of sizes, manipulate the movement of the bones or use them as projectiles.
Gaster blaster: Manifest a skeletal beast head that has a lot of concentrated magic held taut before shooting it out in a controlled powerful beam.
Void pocket: Create a dimensional pocket in the Void where time passes differently, making it seem like reality has frozen in place. This is very taxing to him.
Corrosion magic: The parts of the target’s SOUL filled with LV will create a sapping damage whenever in contact with an attack. A SOUL with no LV will not take sapping damage.
Reset knowledge: Remembers full RESETS through fragmented dreams and flashbacks that happen during the day. Remembers what happened in a branch of the halted timeline due to a LOAD.
Papyrus:
Levitation: Able to make himself, others or objects levitate off the ground without the use of Gravity manipulation. Does not need to keep it in his field of vision once the levitation ability is activated.
Gravity manipulation: Turn the SOUL blue to push it to the ground or throw it around, engulf the object with magic to move it around without needing to touch it. Need to keep it in his field of view to manipulate it.
Healing magic: Capable of transforming the essence of kindness in the SOUL into external healing energy. He excels at this however, the moment his SOUL is in pure distress or the mind is out of deep concentration he loses the ability to do it without needing to think about healing thoughts or good memories.
Strong empathy: Capable of feeling other people’s emotions when it’s strong enough to leak through the cracks of composure. However if the emotion is not strong enough it’s harder to gauge the emotions, moods and feelings of others when only going off on facial expressions.
Fog density: Control the density of evaporated water in the air of a limited area and create a heavy fog in a controlled area.
Blaster: Gather up a lot of magic into one place putting a lot of strain on it before letting it loose into the form of an uncontrolled beam. He often creates a foundation to make it more controlled; like a cannon out of bones. It drains the user a lot. Calls this his ‘special attack’.
Massive bone attack control: Manifests bones in all kinds of sizes, shapes, creations and manipulate the movement of the bones or use them as projectiles. The attack can keep existing even if he isn’t nearby or if he isn’t focused on it.
Damage control: Exert control over how much damage the attack will cause. Takes a lot of focus and only plausible when able to control the intent behind it.
Blue attack: Imbue an attack with the ability to phase through an unmoving target without damaging them.
Observant: Able to observe many small details others might overlook.
Alternative universe knowledge: Gets fragmented dreams of versions of him experiencing different things that happened in the past. Said fragments of copies of the universe he is in or of side branch universes which can differ slightly or a lot. He has a hard time remembering the dreams after waking up.
✨ ✨
(SF)
Razzle:
Shortcuts: Traverse the Void in a dimensional pocket and reappear in another place within a blink of an eye. He needs to know where the desired location is and know what it looks like.
Gravity manipulation: Turn the SOUL blue to push it to the ground or throw it around. Or engulf the object with magic to move it around without needing to touch it. Need to keep it in his field of vision to work.
Great bone attack control: Manifest bones in all kinds of sizes, shapes and manipulate the movement of the bones or use them as projectiles. Can make the projectile follow the target for five seconds, afterwards it goes in the direction it last pointed towards.
Gaster blaster: Manifest a skeletal beast head that has a lot of concentrated magic held taut before shooting it out in a controlled powerful beam.
Blue and orange attack: Imbue an attack with one of the two abilities:
Blue ability; to phase through an unmoving target without damaging them. Orange ability; to phase through a moving target without damaging them.
Stat check: CHECK further than any other normal monster being able to see ATK DEF LV and HP of the target. Cannot tell the exact number, instead he can gauge if the HP is completely filled, lost a bit of it or a lot.
Interrogation magic: Can make a room soundproof. He doesn’t need to be in its vicinity for the magic to keep having effect.
Reset knowledge: Retains the feeling of deja vu whenever a LOAD or a RESET has happened and he does stuff he has already done. Others used to be freaked out when he could recount exactly what was going to happen a few seconds before it happened. He used to not know why and what was going on but thanks to communicating with his brothers he found out what it meant.
Connections: Having been the deputy of the Royal guard and captain of the Snowdin area, not to mention being the strategist of the Queen, he has gained quite the reputation and connections among the monster kind. Providing him with lots of useful information. There’s very little he doesn’t know that happens in the Underground. These connections are also useful on the surface, providing quite the valuable information.
Damage control: Have control over how much damage the attack will cause. Takes a lot of focus and only plausible when able to control the intent behind it.
Coal:
Healing magic: Capable of transforming the essence of kindness in the SOUL into external healing energy. Capable of feeling how much HP the target is recovering.
Bone attack control: Manifest bones in all kinds of sizes, manipulate the movement of the bones or use them as projectiles. Or use them as foundations for blanket forts.
Blue and orange attack: Imbue an attack with one of the two abilities:
Blue ability; to phase through an unmoving target without damaging them. Orange ability; to phase through a moving target without damaging them.
Phasing ability: Can make himself and whatever he’s touching phase through walls or floors. Can traverse like normally inside walls or floors. Can launch himself out of floors or walls quite fast. The limit of staying inside a material is a bit unknown, he has never tested what happens if he stays too long. The longest is ten minutes until now. There’s no surface he can’t phase through except for magic canceling materials.
Damage control: Have control over how much damage the attack will cause. Takes a lot of focus and only plausible when able to control the intent behind it.
Gravity manipulation: Engulf the object with magic to move it around without needing to touch it. He doesn’t need to keep it in his field of vision for it to work.
Reset dreams: Get slivered fragmented dreams whenever a LOAD or RESET happens. The dream entails stuff that happened before the LOAD or RESET took place. He’s restless while he dreams, and once he awakens he is only able to remember certain events vaguely and feels a big sense of dejavu.
Emotional intelligence: Understanding of how others and himself function on an emotional/mentality level. Is more open to self reflection and aid others when struggling with their own emotions and mentality.
Creativity: Very good at putting his thoughts or perspective on paper in an artistic way with harsh colors and textures like charcoal. He often sketches those images instead of drawing them or full lines. However even with just a sketch he’s capable of creating a lot of emotion inside his creation.
Quick reflexes: Having trained with his two brothers a lot (training that mostly covers dodging) and spars with his twin, he’s gotten skilled with his reflexes and agility. Capable of avoiding sudden strikes or moving very fast in a second.
Mastiff:
Target magic: Put a tracker mentally upon the target. Only he can see it. The target has to be in view for the tracker to be placed. Once placed he will be able to find wherever the target is located at. He can also mentally remove the tracker by looking at the target. The limit/ reach of this ability is still unknown.
Great bone attack control: Manifest bones in all kinds of sizes, shapes and manipulate the movement of the bones or use them as projectiles. Can make the projectile follow the target for 3 seconds, afterwards it goes in the direction it last pointed towards.
Blue, orange and red attack: Imbue an attack with one of the three abilities:
Blue ability; to phase through an unmoving target without damaging them. Orange ability; to phase through a moving target without damaging them. Red ability; an ability only accessible when he loses control of his LV. The attack will be infused with rage and hate, doubling the damage the target will take three fold. Consumes a lot of magic and afterwards will leave the user immobilized for a small duration of time.
Weapon creation: Can create and manifest bones in all kinds of weapon-like shapes. He uses long saw toothed bone weapons the most.
Laser beam: Concentrate the magic within his body into the palm of his hand. Once released, a white beam will shoot out of his hand. This ability is lesser compared to the Gaster blaster. It drains a lot of magic.
Object one way teleportation: A lesser version of the Shortcut. Hold the object in his hands and send it through the void to let it appear somewhere else in a blink of an eye. Needs to know what the location where the object is supposed to go to looks like and needs to have been there at least once.
Stealth: Capable of walking and moving in such a way that he’s hard to be noticed or heard when he wants to. Excels at blending in crowds and silently walking across varying terrains like snow and rocks. Is particularly loud in water.
Timeline/multiverse/alternative universe knowledge: Having stolen documents and research from the Dr’s lab when he made his escape, they were filled with theories and analyses of a phenomenon called alternative universes and timelines. He has read them over and over again, having memorized the contents.
Sculpting: Create all kinds of statues or figurines out of stone or wood. If putting in the effort he can create deeply detailed realistic looking statues.
✨✨
(UF)
Red:
Shortcuts: Traverse the Void in a dimensional pocket and reappear in another place in reality within a blink of an eye. Forced to blip in and out of the dimensional pocket of the void causing rapid fire disappearances and reappearances within a short distance between each shortcut .
Stats check: CHECK further than a normal monster can and see the ATK, DEF, LV, EXP and HP of the target. Checking high EXP causes him to become LV crazed for a duration of a time. (LV crazed meaning having bloodlust or starts acting like a violent manic drunk.)
Bone attack control: Manifest bones in all kinds of sizes, manipulate the movement of the bones or use them as projectiles.
Good reflexes: Got good reaction capabilities, making him able to react to something like an attack or a sudden movement within just a second or two.
Poison magic: Imbue attacks with magic that will poison the target once hit. Inside an Encounter it will drain the target’s HP, outside the Encounter it will make the target sick. One hit will make the poison last for a small duration of time. However the time will stack when being hit multiple times.
Orange attack: Imbue an attack with the ability to phase through a moving target without damaging them.
Gravitation manipulation: Turn the SOUL blue to push it to the ground or throw it around, engulf the object with magic to move it around without needing to touch it. Need to keep it in his field of vision to work.
Gaster blaster: Manifest a skeletal beast head that has a lot of concentrated magic held taut before shooting it out in a controlled powerful beam.

Mechanic: Mastered the skill to fix already existing machinery or create something new completely from scratch.
Charon:

Great bone attack control: Manifests bones in all kinds of sizes, shapes, creations and manipulate the movement of the bones or use them as projectiles. Can make it so the attack stays instead of evaporating when the target has been hit by it.
Sticking ability: By touching something or someone he can push it against the wall, floor or ceiling and it will stick to that surface until he decides to release it. Doesn’t need to touch to release an object or person. Can make himself stick to surfaces as well.
Consumes a lot of magic.

Healing magic: Capable of transforming the essence of kindness in the SOUL into external healing energy when thinking about good memories and healing thoughts.
Gravity manipulation: Turn the SOUL blue to push it to the ground or throw it around, engulf the object with magic to move it around without needing to touch it. Need to keep it in his field of vision to work.

✨✨

It’s mostly used to taste his food before eating. The tongue will also automatically stick out when he’s surrounded by flowers. (HT)
Bear:
Stat check: CHECK further than a normal monster can and see the ATK, DEF, LV, HP of the target and see if they are a threat.
Great reflexes and strength: Due to having to survive in a harsh environment his reflexes have heightened. And due to the transformation his body had gone through his strength also has improved greatly. Making him capable of bulldozing through stone.
Reset knowledge: Has remembered full RESETS through fragmented dreams and flashbacks that used to happen during the day. He remembered what happened in a branch of a halted timeline due to a LOAD. However there hasn't been a RESET in so long he doesn’t worry about these things anymore, so he has mostly forgotten about those things. However he sometimes may still get nightmares about it. And the sight of Frisk or their striped shirt will trigger a flashback of so many moments of prior RESETS it will be overwhelming. The flashback will feel so realistic he loses himself and forgets what is real and what isn’t. This state is dangerous for both himself and others involved.
Alternative universe knowledge: Having communicated with his brother about everything, he now knows about the fragmented dreams of alternative versions of his brother that his brother used to experience.
Bone axe weapon: After having lost the control of a bone attack, a new bone attack was born from it. Tearing from the ground a vertebrae that eerily looks and works like a battle axe.

Survival knowledge: Knows how to survive alone in the wild for a long time. Knows what is edible, how to track game, avoid danger, find resources and build shelter.
Traps: What once was knowledge for making puzzles has now been used to make hunting traps instead. The constructions can range from a simple snare to an elaborate puzzle trap which even the most cunning will have a hard time escaping from alive. The simple snares are his preferred method, for it takes less time to make and has way less steps to keep forgetting due to head injury.

Bean:

Vision magic: Due to being easily triggered by dark colored stains he decided to hone a magic skill where he doesn’t have to worry about such a thing. Once his sight has been handicapped by a cloth the magic ability will activate; revealing outlines of objects and figures in the complete darkness. Has to keep his sockets open for it to work.
Claws: Due to the transformation his body went through, his phalanges have grown and sharpened into claws. Making him capable of tearing through tree bark and dent metal.

He has a preference for making the complicated puzzle traps just to feel like how it used to be once upon a time, just for a little while, before all this horror went down.

Ecto tentacles: Due to the great amount of magic inside of him, forming an ecto body has a side effect of creating a multitude of tentacle-like ecto appendages of several shapes, sizes and lengths all round his body. Can manifest said appendages without the need of an ecto body. Some days when the magic becomes too overwhelming the ecto tentacles will appear without his consent.
Magic pulses: The sometimes overwhelming amount of magic stored inside of him escapes by radiating off of him in waves and pulses that can send objects or others flying backwards. Summary:
“just hurry up and tell me, jimin-ah. i don’t have all day.”
uttering a curse to himself, jimin decides it’s best to just get it over with.
so he blurts, “i need you to teach me how — how to have sex.”
at first, there’s only a rigid silence blanketing the air.
or;
in order to impress his crush, jimin turns to his favorite hyung and well-known bachelor, jeongguk. he needs jeongguk to teach him how to have sex.
as expected, things get more complicated.
Notes:
hi guys!
before you read:
this is based off of a twitter thread of mine that i revamped/rewrote.
jimin does have small breasts and a vagina in this fic, but he is not considered trans. just in case, i tagged it AFAB and boy pussy. i'm still learning the technicalities of it all.
also, this is unbeta'd so please forgive any mistakes.
the anticipated update will be early-mid july.
anyways, please enjoy :)
(See the end of the work for more notes.)
Chapter 1: one.
Chapter Text
jimin is desperate to lose his virginity.
being nineteen years old, he thought he’d have gathered his fair share of sexual experiences by now.
things haven’t got exactly to plan, though. instead, he’s been stuck with the short end of the stick. he can’t go on like this, getting off to the wickedly lustful and unrealistic scenarios that repeat behind his eyelids each night due to the absence of a warm body next to him.
especially because of his huge crush on one of the seniors, taehyung.
he’s in jimin’s literature class, all curly hair and long legs with the brightest smile. just thinking about the way taehyung’s brown eyes light up when jimin’s brave enough to initiate a conversation makes his cheeks burn.
even if they casually flirt with small touches and hushed whispers about whatever crosses their minds as they sit in the back of the classroom, even if there really is a palpable sexual tension between them, he is terrified of it going any further.
mostly, jimin fears that if he ever got the chance to hook up with taehyung, it would be painfully obvious that he’s never done anything like it before.
he has only indulged in a few excessively long pecks on the lips, maybe a slight hint of tongue that he can remember. but never second base, never escalating to touching down there. and sure, over the years jimin has watched his fair share of porn, but actually having sex is completely different and he doesn’t want to appear to be a fumbling amateur. he couldn’t bear the thought of taehyung taking him to bed only to be visibly disappointed by his inept sex skills killing the mood and any future of a relationship.
within a few days of having to consider unfavorable solution after another to his secret problem, a brilliant idea comes to him as he’s doing homework at his desk.
his brother seokjin and best friend, jeongguk, have been laughing and cursing obnoxiously for the past two hours while they play whatever new video game that was just released; sounds jimin has had to drown out with the help of his airpods.
it dawned on him.
jimin has had a sex god in his house this whole time.
jeongguk.
jeongguk was one of the most popular guys at the university, a well-known bachelor.
he's notorious for being the type that allows one hookup per person, boys and girls alike. he doesn’t pursue relationships. he acts cool and collected at all times, even when old flames would get attached to him after their rumored (amazing) experience and beg him for a date, or at least a second fuck that he consistently and politely declines.
case in point, he’s the perfect candidate for jimin to learn about sex from.
once he hears jeongguk’s deep voice traveling down the hall ten minutes later as he begins to leave, jimin is presented with the opportunity to pounce.
he’s not going to get any closer to impressing taehyung just complacently sitting around.
it may be a bit weird that he’s jeongguk’s best friend’s younger brother, an introverted sophomore with no experience but jimin doesn’t think of himself as ugly.
he’ll be cool. he can be cool. maybe jeongguk won’t completely laugh in his face. and it may take some begging, but he has to try.
“jeonggukie-hyung,” jimin calls, stumbling out of his room to catch up with jeongguk who is already nearing the stairs, “can i talk to you for a second?”
glancing over his shoulder with an inquisitive brow, a smile breaks out over jeongguk’s face upon seeing the younger scurrying toward him.
“hey tiny,” he beams, “what’s up?”
sometimes, jimin forgets how gigantic jeongguk is until he’s standing right next to him. in reality, jimin knows he’s only a few inches or more taller than him, but jeongguk is big everywhere, thick and broad with defined muscles.
he’s the textbook definition of handsome: sharp cheekbones, pierced lip and brow, and tattoos covering the entirety of his toned arms.
suddenly, this feels much more intimidating. fiddling with his sweater, jimin’s eyes stray to jeongguk’s boots in hesitation. doubts begin to cloud his mind, uncertain if this was actually a good idea. jeongguk has been like a second older brother to him since he was fourteen.
“um,” jimin says, trying his best not to stutter, “i need to ask a favor of you. a really big one.”
whether jeongguk accepts or rejects his proposal, jimin hopes their relationship doesn't change for the worse.
“why do you look so nervous?” he chuckles, eyes narrowing in concern after a beat, “did something bad happen? is someone messing with you?”
his concerned response is exactly why jimin doesn’t need to be nervous, yet he is anyway, his pulse hammering away in his chest as jeongguk takes a step closer into his space. it's just jeongguk, jimin reminds himself, the same guy he's seen nearly every day for the past five years.
although now, jimin battles the distraction that is his hyung's signature, amber cologne.
“what? — no, it’s not that,” jimin scratches the back of his neck, reluctantly pulling his gaze to meet jeongguk’s, “i need your help. i need you to teach me… ah — how do i say this?”
“teach you?” he interjects, “are you failing your classes? i thought you were a straight A student.”
jimin groans internally.
why does jeongguk have to be so himself when jimin is already struggling to find the words to politely ask him to teach him how to fuck?
“no! i mean i am but just — stop. you’re not going to guess it.” he tacks on nervously.
“okay, okay, sorry,” jeongguk sighs in defeat, leaning up against the wall, “but just tell me. whatever it is, i’m sure i could help.”
jimin clears his throat, a blush rising. he can’t believe he’s really a foot away from jeongguk, about to ask him something like this. if jeongguk rejects him, he will have to hole up in his room wallowing in his horny shame for at least a few days.
“i need you to help teach me…” jimin squeezes his eyes shut as he quickly whispers the next words, “how to have sex.”
a pause.
“why are you whispering?" jeongguk asks dumbly, "i can’t hear you.”
he huffs, annoyed and flustered. he tugs jeongguk down to his height with a, “don’t be so loud!”
jeongguk rolls his eyes but relents in a quieter tone, “just hurry up and tell me, jimin-ah. i don’t have all day.”
uttering a curse to himself, jimin decides it’s best to just get it over with.
so he blurts, “i need you to teach me how — how to have sex .”
at first, there’s only a rigid silence blanketing the air.
slowly pulling back with wide doe eyes and shocked parted lips, jeongguk stares at him as if he’s grown two heads.
“come again?”
jimin smacks him hard on the bicep, which jeongguk responds with a sarcastic hiss as he cradles his “wounded” arm.
“i’m serious,” he pleads pathetically, “you heard me. i need you to — help me learn. please?”
jeongguk huffs incredulously, “why would you ask me something like that? no guys your age available? also, did you forget i’m friends with seokjin? your brother.”
“hyung,” jimin whines petulantly, “you’re just so experienced and i need someone like that to teach me how to impress my crush. pretty please?”
as jeongguk stared down at the small, silver-haired boy, he allowed jimin’s words to sink in. peering up with his plump lips pouted, puppy dog eyes activated, along with the batting of eyelashes for emphasis, jimin whines in his throat.
ashamedly, jeongguk’s dick twitched in his pants at the younger's request. being his best friend’s little brother, he strictly tried to view jimin as off-limits. honestly, it was a difficult process coming to that decision because he’s born witness to jimin filling out nicely, growing into and embracing his curvy figure that prompted the younger to wear items accentuating his thick hips and thighs. hastily, he would tear his eyes away from the image of jimin’s perky ass peeking from his skirts. when that no longer worked, jeongguk resorted to physically shaking his head or leaving the room altogether to squash the temptation of the resulting lustful thoughts.
and now here was the same, forbidden boy, the boy he’s known for years, and has assumed jimin was too pure, not ready or interested; let alone having sex on his radar, offering himself up to jeongguk on a silver platter and begging him to teach him.
he must be dreaming.
“you’re insane.” jeongguk concludes, deadpan as he crosses his arms over his chest.
then, there’s another sulky tug on jeongguk's folded arm.
“come on, i’ll do anything you ask in return?” jimin adds, “laundry? cleaning? i’ll even beg on my knees if you want.”
although he liked the sound of it, he didn’t want to appear too indulgent, too quickly. if he did this, it would have to be a secret. seokjin could never find out. if he's not careful, if they're not careful, things could go very wrong.
after a few more seconds mulling it over and trying to ignore the way blood continues rushing south as he stares at the pretty boy, jeongguk throws caution to the wind.
he huffs, lamenting, “fine, i’ll help you. just don’t tell anyone. we can't have seokjin finding out. got it?”
as jimin squealed and jumped with excitement, and after awkwardly hugging jeongguk, he added, “of course! thank you thank you thank you. you’re the best, hyung!”
he rolled his eyes but thought: this might be fun.
a lot of fun.
if anyone could show him the pleasures of sex, jeongguk would definitely be the man for the job.
✧
to say that jimin was a contradicting ball of eager, anxious energy about jeongguk accepting his proposal would be an understatement. since that afternoon, he had been anticipating their first lesson, his stomach erupting with a flurry of butterflies every time he thought about it.
it meant that he was one step closer to losing his virginity, which meant one step closer to blowing taehyung’s mind when they finally, hopefully, hooked up.
so when he got a text from jeongguk inviting him over to his apartment this weekend, jimin agreed, responding with his consent within a minute.
today was saturday, which meant seokjin was at the gym and then would head to his girlfriend’s house for the rest of the night. his parents would do whatever they do, jimin doesn’t really pay attention. they’re around, but both work so much that he usually only sees them for dinner. so, when jimin tells them he’s going out with friends, they don’t bat an eye.
the reality of the situation doesn't hit jimin until he's already standing at his doorstep and jeongguk opens the door in a tank top and gray sweats, the same familiar and charming smile plastered across his face.
“hey jimin-ah, come in,” he greets, stepping aside to let the younger one pass him.
jeongguk has only had his own place for about a few months now and jimin is shocked by how clean and well-decorated everything is. it smells just like jeongguk, with some traces of fresh linen from what jimin assumes is from him doing a load of laundry.
it’s more put together than he expected.
“wow, nice place,” jimin observes, still distracted by the kept state of the apartment for a college student; pleased with the fact that jeongguk had nice furniture, a flat-screen television, and a sufficiently sized, open kitchen.
jimin was aware jeongguk made good money on the side by apprenticing at a tattoo shop while he finished his graphic design classes but jimin is glad to know it seems to have paid off.
“thanks, it’s still pretty new so i haven’t had time to mess it up yet,” jeongguk laughs.
jimin giggles, trying to hide his nerves about the fact that his hyung is about to give him his first lesson. as their voices die down and jeongguk shuts the door behind him, an awkward tension settles in the air.
“do you want something to drink?” jeongguk quips, sensing jimin’s nerves, “i’ve got some water, tea, soda?”
“um — just water is good, thanks hyung,” he responds politely.
jeongguk nods, subtly imploring jimin to follow him to the kitchen with a quick wave of his hand.
“so,” jeongguk clears his throat, grabbing a glass of water for jimin, “tell me about this guy you’re trying to impress. does he go to our university? do i know him?”
“i don’t think you do,” he answers, leaning his hip on the side of the counter.
“okay, well is he older?” jeongguk pries as he sets the full glass down in front of him, “what’s his name?”
“really, hyung? now you’re interrogating me?” jimin says, a cheeky deflection.
it’s embarrassing enough to be here in this situation as a sad virgin. he doesn’t want to fawn over his crush or indulge in all the details of who it is. it would feel weird. plus, he doesn’t want to give jeongguk a reason to go around trying to find out if taehyung measures up to his standards.
“just trying to understand this, is all,” jeongguk explains, uncharacteristically serious, “i’ve never even heard you talk about a guy before, having a crush, so i’m curious.”
“i know,” jimin sighs, “the crushes i’ve had before haven’t really been this strong, i guess. but now — i really think this one could turn into something and i wanna be… prepared.”
jeongguk breathes a laugh at the pink hue staining jimin’s cheeks, nodding his head curtly at the younger’s answer.
“you’re so cute, min,” he ruffles his hair, “i get it, i do. shall we start then? we can go to my room if you want and talk about things.”
jimin grabs the glass, chugging the water in one go.
“sure, let’s go.”
✧
once they’re in jeongguk’s room, jimin takes a timid seat on the edge of his spacious bed. jeongguk stays standing, stopping a foot away from jimin.
“first things first,” he begins, clapping his hands together, “we will start with something light, just touching. i’ll teach you what to do, maybe how to give a hand job today? how does that sound?”
suddenly, his heart stutters. his hand is going to be on jeongguk’s dick in the next few minutes. okay, cool.
he gulps, nodding rapidly.
jeongguk gives him a reassuring smile before adding, “if we do something and you don’t like it or don’t feel comfortable, we can stop."
he takes a seat next to jimin on the bed, thighs brushing together, "or if you change your mind and want to do something else, just tell me. i just want you to feel like you can tell me anything as we do this.”
his whole spiel is rather sweet. jimin's kind of endeared that he’s taking it so seriously and wants him to feel as comfortable as possible.
“can you look at me, tiny?” jeongguk asks softly, gently directing his face in his direction with a hand on jimin’s chin, “do you have any questions?”
jimin is distracted. jeongguk’s hair is still damp from a shower in some places, stray dry strands twisting into curls.
tracing the curve of his nose, his gaze lowers to where jeongguk is biting his lip and his round, brown eyes are surveying his own expression. as jeongguk gently holds his face, he notes how big and calloused they are. suddenly, he’s beginning to understand the desperation of his former partners. jeongguk is undeniably handsome.
“um — yeah,” jimin squeaks, turning his head away, “no, i don’t have any questions.”
a few moments later, jeongguk has them standing for his demonstration.
being only a few inches from one another, jimin has to crane his neck slightly to be able to see his hyung's face completely, who's studying him with a curious smile.
shifting back and forth on his feet from the silence, jimin pops his lips together as a way to say go on.
“so,” jeongguk starts with a friendly grin, “let’s say you’re with your crush. you’re kissing, things are getting heated, basically — it’s escalating.”
jimin hums, listening attentively.
“you’re going to want to touch each other. now, don’t be shy at showing him how much you want him,” jeongguk’s large hands come to rest on jimin's lanky arms, “what you wanna do is touch his chest — his arms, stuff like that.”
“oh, okay, yeah,” he agrees.
honestly, jimin never thought much about the build-up to sex, too consumed with thoughts about the actual act of penetration itself but jeongguk is right.
this is important information.
“here,” jeongguk grabs jimin’s wrists abruptly, pulling him forward.
with a surprised yelp, jimin stumbles, his forehead nearly colliding with jeongguk’s chin. underneath where his palms rest over the swell of his pecs, jimin can feel the steady rhythm of his heartbeat, contradicting his own erratic one.
“i'll show you," jeongguk continues, guiding his limp hands and allowing his fingers to slowly map his chest through his thin tank top.
when jeongguk brings his hands to run along the hardened muscle of his abs, jimin can’t suppress the slight hitch of his breath.
“nervous?” he prompts quietly, angling his head down to assess jimin’s reaction.
“no — just keep going,” jimin presses. when he's led to caress the sinewy muscles of jeongguk’s biceps, he has to resist the urge to squeeze and knead the hardened muscles the way his brain tells him to do.
it’s exhilarating, feeling a man like this. sparks of eagerness ignite. he wants to do more.
“then what do i do?” jimin asks in a small, breathless voice.
“you could always kiss his neck while your hands get lower,” jeongguk adds, returning jimin’s hands to trace along his abs, “be a tease if you want, but not too much — unless he’s somehow into that… dragging it out shit.”
jimin regains control, curiously moving along jeongguk’s abdomen lower and lower until his fingers reach the band of his sweatpants.
“o-okay… what else?”
“put your hand here,” jeongguk grabs his palm and places it over his soft bulge through the cotton, “cup him just firm enough to get the point across. that this is what you want.”
jimin is at a loss for words from feeling the outline of his length as he’s made to grip tighter.
an electrifying zap of lust shoots straight to his core, a heavy tension settling in between his legs when realizing how thick jeongguk is even through the separating layer.
he can't make eye contact, despite his hyung's gaze burning through him. he doesn't want to give away that only fondling is having that type of effect on him, that it has him wondering what it would feel like stretching his pussy open.
a few seconds pass before jeongguk speaks up, “can i kiss you?”
what?
when jimin peers at jeongguk, he realizes how close their faces have grown.
“kiss me?”
“how do you expect him to get hard if there’s no kissing or foreplay?" jeongguk responds smoothly, "am i not teaching you how to turn a guy on? i know you haven’t had much experience with kissing either.”
before jimin can form a sassy rebuttal, jeongguk manhandles him against the nearest wall with a knee between his thighs and his palms softly cupping his cheeks.
he's forced to meet jeongguk's penetrating gaze and the air spikes with an unfamiliar tension.
it’s not that jimin doesn’t want to kiss jeongguk. rather, it's the overwhelmingly confusing fact that he does want it and is already imagining how his lip ring would feel pressed against his lips.
“it’s just a kiss, tiny,” he laughs gruffly, his knee brushing against the skin of jimin's inner thighs.
his skirt has been forcibly rucked up by their position and if jimin moves even the slightest bit, his pussy is in the perfect position to bump jeongguk’s leg.
oh fuck. what did jimin get himself into?
he's slowly being consumed by jeongguk's looming figure dwarfing him as made to fall further against the wall.
jimin's pulse echoes in his ears from the thrilling, new proximity. he tries to calm the growing and incessant lust muddying his senses by taking a subtle, deep breath.
you’re here to learn, jimin reminds himself. jeongguk is just doing what's asked of him.
“fine," he agrees, deceptively nonchalant, "teach me how to do it.”
“as we kiss, keep your hand here if you want," jeongguk pointedly looks to where jimin still has a hand on him, "explore as much as you want.”
jeongguk’s thinner lips are slotting with jimin's before he can finish squeaking out an okay.
eyes fluttering from the hot pressure of jeongguk’s mouth mixing with the slightly cool touch of his lip ring, he whimpers, fumbling to react. jeongguk tilts his chin up, forcing his mouth to open wider.
the subtle, pleasant flavor of mint from the remnants of jeongguk's toothpaste distantly registers as their lips sensually glide together.
jeongguk’s hands travel to rest on the column of his slender neck as their spit-slick kiss moves faster, wet smacking noises resounding in the quiet room. the kiss grows heavier, sloppier, desperate. it's definitely the best kiss he's ever had, but he knows he must be falling short in hyung's eyes. jimin is still as uncoordinated as ever, stuck between enjoying and adequately matching jeongguk's lead.
it's a struggle to breathe through his nose as jeongguk's tongue slips past his lips, skillfully claiming his mouth. when jimin discovers the fattened erection under his limp hand, his whine is swallowed once more by the older's ravenous mouth.
after a few more seconds of him trying to reciprocate but failing to keep up the pace due to his racing thoughts, jeongguk pulls away to rest his forehead against his.
“stop thinking so much,” he scolds lightly, thumb delicately caressing jimin’s pillowy bottom lip, “and open your mouth wider — also don’t stand there like a dead fish, keep touching while you kiss.”
jimin rolls his eyes with a huff, “have any more pointers for me?”
“you wanna learn or not?" jeongguk teases, pausing when jimin's eyes dart away, "or are you feeling uncomfortable?”
“no, it’s not that,” he whispers, “i just feel so — i am clueless. it’s embarrassing.”
"practice makes perfect, little one,” jeongguk encourages, soothingly trailing his hands down the curve of his ribs, “remember, i’m not here to judge you.”
jimin hums, “okay… let’s try again.”
closing his eyes, jimin puckers his lips to start kissing again but is met with silence.

This is purely my opinion. But Do I like Elsword or Closers. Well I like both but let me explain.
Elsword has a total of 14 playable characters with 4 paths thats a total of 56 characters. Closers got around 19 ( Lucy isn't released yet but she is the 19th character). Both games have a set of playstyles available, though Els. somewhat landslides the maximum playstyles in games is a bit much.
Closers you can literally make 19 characters alltogether, Elsword I forgot the maximum character it has been years last I looked at the change. But you could have enough characters available.
Bankshare, so Closers has account bank and character bank, you can literally transfer sometghings over to your alts easily, except if you need to use those quality seals for some items which I know those are given like candy. Elsword NA had a quest for free bankshare in account, but got rid of it. ( i been seeing the KR players mention they have that quest on new accounts but I don't know as I can't play Els. KR so someone confirm with me.) So really locked off the chance of items and such being booped to another character.
Character progression - This might anger some people but remember I've seen the pre before revamps back in 2015-2016, Elsword was easy as hell, newer updates made them even better, I never done Master Class, bought em for a few characters i wanted for El collection. But Closers is slightly difficult, I asked my friend about Task Force, he says it takes 5 days. I'm like "What are you serious? Thats so bad, I don't want to call Closer players crazy, but you call your job changes easy? That's annoying to do." Like I'd rather a time scale of easier advancements instead thanks, not 5 days.
Character Selection - HOO BOY I will get hate for the progression but. Elsword is new with the idea but I like theirs, put away your torches. Closers Teamwork buff is great, but Elsword if they're active collected, you'll get the stat increases, Closers, my Eunha has 767,637 Combat power in hubs but in the sectors the teamwork system comes into play where she has 807,784 power I don't like the sector only buff, have it on and active no matter what, my Tina having 987,798 power and in sectors she has 1,000,000 power, I would like to see my progress at full power.
PNA vs ERP - Obviously I like the PNA is easy but you gotta level within special areas like planar gate, where the ERP you can level it in lv 99 dungeons. But rewards for pna is better imo.
Fatigue - Elsword still has this system but really it doesn't bother me much, Closers rid of that system so yay more entertainment.
Special weapons/armor - Elsword has the better kind but after seeing some players gear in Closers, Closers tops them, although the sector limit in puri does prevent the replayability that I'm use to for Void weapon and Flames Judgement. And that you'll get puri gear NOT for the main that you have, which does get annoying but more materials it is, hooray although I want Eunha's Tindalos costume but I can't get dem eroded fibers.
Promo costumes - Closers is better on this field, your character gets their base outfit and best of all you can upgrade them you can craft special outfits much easily as Els there is no perma character promo costume ( except v2 but that ended at revamp before Rose's release.) So no viable way to have a costume to rely on I'd rather a perma costume or buying major rip.
Death - Elsword is better. I'm sorry the animation in Closers add more to your time on death so elsword it doesn't take around 2-4 seconds to get a ressurection menu or leave sector.
Dungeons and hubs - I like both, just don't let me fight flying enemies, and we both good.
Characters - Mixed opinion some I don't like some I like, Tein might as well be girl I'm only joking. But some are comparable. Like Seth's to Seth and Laby to Laby i like them as characters as they refer themselves in 3rd person lol they are sweethearts of characters imo.
Story - both are good, shut up I'm not the one who skips the story and bitch and whine about why a game has story or why it shouldn't even have a story, or that you didn't bother to look at the story not our fault but its there. Your opinion is one half of the games so hush.
Search and Wikis - Els has it easier. I can find Elwiki and characters much easily than closers, Closers had a really good wiki but I can't find it as its gone so none tops Elwiki. But Closers stuff I can't find easily I have to literally specify what I am looking up for that game.

More Than Meets the Eye #13- Swerve Doesn’t Have Any Friends
Okay, let’s go ahead and get this out of the way.
It’s a FUCKING SPORTS BRA AND RUNNING SHORTS ALEX.
And don’t think I don’t see that friggin’ cleavage alien back there. You ain’t slick.
I’m going to make it a law that all comic book artists learn how to draw clothes that don’t vacuum-seal themselves to women’s bodies. Milne gets six months for this infraction alone, and Roche gets a year for the initial bra crime he committed back in Last Stand. Learn how women’s underwear works, you ninnies.
Our issue opens up with Swerve stretching his radio personality muscles.
Oh, Guido Guidi, whisk me away to flights of fancy!
Our artist for this issue is none other than Guido Guidi, ascended from fanwork to deliver us from evil with his near-superhuman ability to emulate other artists’ styles and just make things look really pretty. He was responsible for the mythos pages in the 2012 Annual, AKA the best part. He also filled in on some of the art for Last Stand of the Wreckers, not that I really noticed because he’s just that good.
Swerve lets Blurr know that while it might have looked like the Lost Light had exploded, thus killing everyone onboard back in issue #1, that isn’t actually what happened. I’m glad someone filled in the Cybertronian populace on that.
I was never great at math, but those speech bubbles might be phoning it in a bit.
Swerve says that he’s having a great time on the quest, despite all the hiccups, and we get an explanation for why this long-range communications system hasn’t been seen prior to this point. It’s been broken for a while- most likely due to the quantum jump that started the series off with a bang- but Blaster managed to get it running again. Good job, Blaster. With this little setup for our framing device out of the way, we get into the meat of the story.
Swerve is being nosey about things that weren’t any of his business, happening in a closed off room, when Drift drags him down the hall and hid him away for safety. Swerve doesn’t much appreciate being manhandled, but there’s a method to the madness here.
Drift’s nose has vacated the premises once again, so we’re just going to have to deal with that. And how shapely does one have to be to be known as “the guy with the legs”? I mean, Drift is RIGHT THERE.
Drift uses his own powerful legs to kick down the door to Cyclonus and Tailgate’s room. It turns out that the horrific screaming wasn’t the sound of a murder or sexual relations taking place, but rather that of Cyclonus singing in Old Cybertronian.
My god, he’s completely enamored with this unrepentant murder machine.
We are just all up in Cyclonus’ grill for this panel. Nothing but lips. Was this specified in the script? Because it feels like it might have been specified in the script.
Old Cybertronian, or the Primal Vernacular as some might call it, was last seen in general when Rodimus channeled the will of the trapped Titan all across Tailgate’s chest. It was last seen spoken when we met Vos, the terrible murder gremlin who turns into a gun and uses his face to cause puncture trauma.
Comic books are wild, y’all.
Now that we’ve established that no one’s being killed, Drift goes back to what he was doing earlier, with Swerve deciding to tag along because he’s horrifically lonely. He invites Drift to come room up with him, because I guess if you’re going to sell off your comatose roommate’s bed out from under him, you might as well go for the guy who’s third in command, is probably one of the hottest guys on the ship, and slices people into chunky salsa if they try anything funny.
Drift politely declines, and awkwardly removes himself from the conversation when Swerve doesn’t take the hint, returning to his sword lesson with Rodimus.
Oh thank god, the obnoxiously pink room is back.
Ultra Magnus bursts into the room, appalled by the actions of his fellow crew members. Some of his concerns are well-placed. Others, well…
Is- is that another friggin’ retainer on those lower teeth? Why does this design choice keep showing up?
So Magnus has imprisoned roughly a third of the ship at this point, and Rodimus suggests he take a chill pill. Magnus doesn’t even know what a chill pill even is, so we’re forced to make use of our most dangerous weapon- the threat of a good time, courtesy of Swerve.
The fact that Ultra Magnus hasn’t reduced Swerve to an oil stain on the floor is genuinely astounding. The guy has zero respect for bureaucracy or proper business management. It has been MONTHS, you dinky little man, get your act together as a business owner.
Swerve takes the bribe, and soon everyone’s shipping off to Hedonia, where the drinks are plentiful and the women… well, most of the Lost Lighters don’t even know what a woman is, so that aspect doesn’t really come into play. Thanks, Furman.
Also, Rung’s back to normal. Don’t worry about it, not a big deal.
Swerve isn’t having much luck on his Roommate Quest, as Tailgate spurns his advances, stating that he’s good kicking it with Cyclonus, mainly because they’re both old as shit.
I see we haven’t quite hit the threshold on the “Cyclonus is allowed to have friends now” meter. Give it a few more issues, I’m sure we’ll get there.
Man, zero for two for Swerve on trying to get a hot roommate. Maybe third time’s a charm?
Rodimus pops into the back of the shuttle to remind everyone that their entire race is more or less despised by the entire galaxy, and to play it safe by using their holomatter avatars.
The revamp by Brainstorm and Rung is truly a blessing, because the avatars in IDW were awful to look at up to this point.
Y’all, that is HOT ROD. Jesus wept.
Getting back to Tailgate’s questionable taste in companionship, Tailgate asks if Swerve and Blurr connected right away. Swerve gives him an affirmative, then starts listing off the guy’s racing stats until Ultra Magnus plops down between the two of them, drawn in by the melodious sound of statistics.
Magnus is having a hard time relaxing, but he’s giving it his best, and I think that’s very commendable of him. It’s hard trying new things.
On the surface of Hedonia, it would appear the B-Movies are having a Pride event in the entertainment district.
Okay, moment of truth- show us those avatars!
Oh thank god, they aren’t totally hideous. Though, isn’t Rewind old as shit? I guess youth is a state of mind. Still, I can’t believe we missed out on silver fox Rewind.
Rung’s line is in response to folks at the time claiming that Rung was a self-insert character, which is interesting, because we’ve already seen what a self-insert looks like when it’s Roberts doing the inserting, and we’ve also seen his Mary Sues.
Rung, while an original character who had appeared in Roberts’ pre-professional works (a single line of text in Eugenesis, where he was a psychiatry play-on-words), he isn’t what I’d consider a Mary Sue. Mary Sues are usually stunningly beautiful, beloved by their peers, insanely talented in ways that no other character is, and typically have some sort of connection to another character that more or less forces them into the story despite not needing to exist.
Mary Sues don’t get their friggin’ heads exploded, or exist in a constantly-forgettable state. Sure, he’s the only therapist we’ve ever seen in the Transformers franchise, but there was kind of a massive need for that sort of character to be created, seeing as all of these sons of guns have PTSD and clinical depression. And, as we’ve seen in previous issues and will continue to see later on, he’s really not even that great at it.
That isn’t to say that he doesn’t have certain traits befitting such a characterization, merely that they don’t add up to equal that sort of whole by issue #13. Transformers (2009)-era Drift is way closer to a true Mary Sue than Rung is.
Anyway, where the hell did Tailgate get to?
They really just let Frodo Baggins in this bar all babybjörned up, huh? Does Tailgate even know what a baby even is at this point? Does he just think he’s a very small person? How much human media has he consumed? We haven’t gotten into the reproductive process for the continuity yet, but fresh Cybertronians aren’t exactly a one-to-one to human infants. Damn it, Roberts, what the fuck am I supposed to make of Babygate?
Whirl’s off in the corner, disguised as a 12-year old girl who’s fucking STRAPPED. Magnus has disappeared, but Rewind locates him pretty easily as Rung makes a comment about Magnus needing to make an appointment with him.
Oh hey, Verity. Been a minute. Careful, ol’ six-eyes over there is leering at you.
The fellas come back to the bar as they truly are, and sit down for a round of drinks. Whirl gets Ultra Magnus a drink that sounds disturbingly like a Cybertronian equivalent to Milk Coke, and we get a little anatomy lesson. Transformers have something called a Fuel Intake Moderation chip, something that keeps them from getting drunk on pretty much the only thing they can consume. Swerve suggests Magnus turn his off so he can have a good time- which I don’t personally agree with, but this is Captain Stick-in-the-Mud we’re talking about here. Magnus gives it a shot.
And that’s a series wrap on Ultra Magnus!
No, the man’s just got no tolerance and has been knocked the hell out by his drink. Things begin devolving. Tailgate is crying. Skids has found out that Whirl didn’t give Magnus Milk Coke at all, but instead the equivalent of liquid cocaine. Swerve is convinced he’s going to prison. Rewind is filming the whole thing.
Nobody actually checks to see if Magnus is actually dead, until Rung gets around to it. Swerve, you’re a doctor by original trade, what the hell are you doing?
The boys sit Magnus at the table to wait out his nap. Hours later, nothing’s changed, except that they’ve started up the nemesis game, and Whirl’s decided he’s going to be rude about monoformers being monoformers. Rung gives a non-answer, because that’s just who he is as a person. Skids names Misfire as his worst enemy, only because he’s still missing a good chunk of memory and can’t remember if he had a worst enemy, but still wants to contribute to the conversation.
Rung, don’t be a dick, he did his best. You were right on top of Fort Max, it was a tricky shot.
Ultra Magnus finally starts waking up, and that’s the point where everyone decides to foot Swerve with the bill for the emotional labor he’s going to have to perform by explaining just what the friggity-frack happened.
Magnus starts laughing, then crying, then offloads his troubles onto Swerve. Magnus feels like he just doesn’t fit in on the Lost Light. He’s just trying to do his job and everyone makes fun of him, or disrespects his authority. He’s trying, he really is, but he’s just not built for post-war life. He’s actually tried to leave his position on the Lost Light, but they just keep pulling him back in.
Probably doesn’t help that Rodimus seems more interested in Drift’s opinion on matters than his own SIC half the time.
Oh no, he’s making digs at the things Swerve’s sensitive about. Where is Rung?
Magnus just wants to be understood, y’know? He’s a fully realized creation. He’s got interests. Like music! And the fact that Swerve is missing his Autobot badge!
This was the point where MTMTE was still bouncing back and forth on whether it wanted to commit to the crotch badge. It was a tumultuous time for everyone, very dark days.
WHERE THE FUCK IS RUNG
Magnus, having had enough of sharing his feelings, takes another sip of his cocaine and slips back into unconsciousness. Swerve admits to his limp body that people don’t actually like him, but rather only stick around because of what he can offer- namely, a good time.
The rest of the Swerve posse comes back, with Cyclones having joined the party. Rung shows off his new model ship, which gets Rewind started on his movie collection. He pulls up the opening ceremony for the Ark 1. Y’know, the Ark 1, that ship that Cyclonus was on that disappeared into the Dead Universe for six million years. The Ark 1 that Tailgate was supposed to be on.
Before we can get started however, someone throws the model at Rewind’s head.
That someone is none other than Cyclonus, who proceeds to fly into a rage, throwing tables and shoving the still-unconscious Ultra Magnus to the floor. My word, what a reaction! What could possibly be setting him off so much? Does he not like being reminded of his fated trip to the stars? Is this a manifestation of trauma from that event?
Who knows? No time for questions, Skids is too busy punching him in the face.
Tailgate intervenes, explaining that because Cyclonus and himself are so goddamn old, the engex Cyclonus consumed is wreaking havoc on his body. He tells the rest of them to go on while he tries to calm Cyclonus down. Interesting that Rewind doesn’t have any sort of input on this, given that he is also super fucking old, but there’s no time for questions! We’ve got to get Ultra Magnus back on the shuttle in the next 20 minutes, or else they’ll be stuck on Hedonia FOREVER.
They start throwing Magnus on the floor repeatedly, trying to get his t-cog to spin up. No dice, however.
It’s 4AM. Do you know where your Domey is? Because Rewind sure as hell doesn’t.
Okay, time for Plan B.
I’m guessing not, Rung. I’m guessing not.
Using Magnus as a trampoline does the trick, and the boys are rewarded with the sight of Magnus’ alt-mode… resting on its roof, upside down. They get him sorted, pile in the cab- Rewind is driving, which leads me to believe he at least has some experience handling a vehicle. Chromedome does turn into a car…
I don’t even know what that sort of activity implies for a Transformer. We won’t go any further down this line of thought.
The boys manage to get Ultra Magnus to the shuttle in time, and all’s well that ends well!
This is about the time that Blaster knocks on the glass at Swerve to wrap things up, seeing as he’s been at this for over nine hours now. There’s one last little aside before we’re done with our story, however, and it involves just what happened in the bar after everyone else left.
Cyclonus calmed down almost immediately after the rest of the guys left, paying for what he broke and inviting Tailgate to have a seat.
Well, I say invite, but it’s really more of an order.
If you’d already figured out at this point that this jumpy little marshmallow was lying about being the biggest badass who ever lived, a gold star for you! It turns out, dear Tailgate has been crafting a fabrication, spinning a yarn, telling a tall tale since Day One on the Lost Light. The story has been feeding us a steady diet of fish the whole time!
Red herring!
Red herring!
Red herring of Tailgate’s own design! Autopedia’s mods are a friggin’ joke.
Tailgate was supposed to be a the Ark 1 launch, but it was because he was on the cleanup crew. Boy’s a sluicer, and his arm SHOULD say "waste disposal”. Through a cunning use of his wits and cold reading, Tailgate faked his way through the dismantling of the bomb on Temptoria. A smart boy, he is, if not a bit self-centered.
Which brings us to why exactly Cyclonus freaked out in the bar: he wasn’t having an episode, but rather faking a reaction to prevent Tailgate’s lie from being exposed. He still thinks that Tailgate should come clean about this whole thing, before things get really messy, but it wouldn’t be an issue of MTMTE without some raw-ass emotions getting thrown about.
Cyclonus, who hasn’t allowed himself to feel anything other than simmering rage or national pride for over six million years, is beginning to feel something for Tailgate.
That feeling is sympathy, and maybe a little pity.
He offers to teach Tailgate a song to help him feel better, because that’s what he does when he has feelings.
And given that Cyclonus seems to sing often enough that Tailgate’s gotten used to the horrific sound, it might be that Cyclonus has feelings a hell of a lot more often than he lets on.
Roberts, how many times are you going to make Tailgate cry? How much pain are you going to subject him to before you’re satisfied?
The scene closes out on the two of them getting their karaoke on in the empty bar, in the god-awful language that is Old Cybertronian. I can only imagine that they get kicked out of the bar pretty quickly after this.
Getting back to the present, Swerve has finally, finally finished his story, closing out with an invitation for Blurr to come visit Swerve’s.
Blaster gets ready to shoot one hell of a voice message at Blurr, but there’s a problem; the number Swerve has isn’t long enough to be a personal hailing frequency.
Yeah, turns out that Tailgate isn’t the only liar on board the Lost Light.
Four million years ago, Swerve met Blurr at a publicity event, got way too friendly with a celebrity, pestered the guy until he gave him a fake number, and has convinced himself that he made a life-long friend to this very day.
Big oof.
Later, back at Swerve’s, Swerve is busy cleaning the glassware when Ultra Magnus comes in, sober and having just gotten out of surgery to fix his fuel tanks. Guess that second sip of Nucleon really wasn’t a good idea.
Swerve tries to tell a lie about what happened the night before, only to have the dawning horror that Magnus remembered the entire night, as he’s presented with a new badge. Swerve, bolstered by the fact that, while Magnus didn’t enjoy the previous evening, he appreciated having company, begins to ask Magnus if he’d want to room with him.
Wow, zero for three! That’s rough, buddy.
Kind of a bummer end to this whole issue, but it was still decently light, tone-wise, for MTMTE. A great deal of fun was had, in between all the mortifying reveals of our characters inner demons.
...Well, shit.

Character Patch Notes ( 4 / 1 )
For the past few weeks, a large majority of characters have been getting revamps and new stories to go with their exclusion in the upcoming story. As a result, I decided to compile most of the surface level changes for those that wish to see just what has changed for the characters. Don’t worry, I did my best to make it as compact as possible.
Charles ( Grookey )
I took the liberty of rewriting Charles’s backstory to open him up as a Grookey who, under the passion of his father and brother, is a Grookey aspiring to partake in the gym challenge and practice his drumming skills. As well as being the one to often help cheer others up during a tough situation.
Pokemon Level:
19 ---> 20
Pokemon Moves:
Taunt ---> Knock Off
Likes:
Tree Swinging ---> Helping Others
Berries ---> Battle Planning
Dislikes:
Negative Pokemon ---> Tense Moments
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Personality:
Laid Back ---> Passionate
Vanissa ( Scorbunny )
I decided to focus on revamping a number of characters with Vanissa being one of the bigger ones due to the lacking feeling in her character. I decided on having her and Gabriella, her Cinderace Sister, have difficult terms together which could lead to story and interaction between the two. I also wish to avoid all of Vanissa’s character being the hot-headed one of the group.
Pokemon Level:
19 ---> 22
Pokemon Moves:
Tackle ---> Agility
Likes:
Battle Planning ---> Showing her strength
Dislikes:
Judgemental Pokemon ---> Judgy Pokemon
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Personality:
Tomboyish ---> Stubborn
Henry ( Sobble )
Not much was needed to be changed for Henry seeing as how his character is the sort I would imagine, but I did revamp his bio to help shape as to why he’s still nervous at such an old age. I did feel him showing signs of wanting to change, yet being held back by fears that still haven’t left him, could make for a nice character that could have some interaction and such involving him.
Serena ( Wooloo )
Serena’s bio was pretty old, mainly being made when Wooloo was first introduced and had little to no changes outside of including the name of her younger brother. With that said, her backstory was changed to allow for how she met her current friends and the intrigue she has on wanting to see more of the region.
Likes:
Sweets ---> Sweets / Desserts
Rolling About ---> Exploring
Dislikes:
Sheared Wool → Aggressive Petting
Personality:
Gentle ---> Considerate
Valerie ( Galarian Farfetch’d )
I wanted to tone back on the idea that Valerie grew up in a strict household as the idea was hard for me to accept with Arthur getting more character. I decided instead to change it so that rather than her father’s actions being the thing she dislikes, it’s the fame her father has that bothers her. It’s not like she hates this fame, but the fact her training is being seen under Arthur annoys her.
Age:
19 ---> 22
Likes:
Leek Practice ---> Teaching Others
Dislikes:
Item Management ---> Unnecessary Attention
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Personality:
Tough ---> Honest
Hardworking ---> Venturesome
Rowdy ---> Reserved
Louisa ( Sirfetch’d )
I took the liberty of rewriting parts of Louisa to allow her to tie well into her daughter Valerie. The idea is that Louisa is quite invested in battling, but worries that she can’t enjoy battling forever once her leek withers. This has led to her taking the opportunity to try and teach others some of the proper ways of battling.
Age:
38 ---> 42
Likes:
Tough Opponents ---> Teaching Others
Dislikes:
Leek Tampering ---> Leek Trouble
Occupation ( Job ):
Gym Challenger
Volunteer ---> Poke Job Volunteer
Amity ( Greedent )
With Amity being one of the characters who doesn’t require too much depth her stuff pretty much stays the same outside of a few things. Otherwise, she’s the same Greedent you love.
Likes:
Sweets ---> Desserts / Sweets
Vida ( Dracozolt )
Not much was changed aside from giving Vida a bit of a relationship with Louisa, allowing Vida to become more prominent for the sword side of things.
Josephine ( Inteleon )
Lately, I found a lot of people really wanted to interact with Josephine in many unique ways. However, due to the overwhelming amount of interest, I realized Josephine might not be the easiest to present for interactions given how she is. As such, Josephine’s backstory and aspects have been rewritten to make her an Inteleon struggling to understand more about what she can do. As well as wanting to show she doesn’t have to be a strong pokemon to be a leader all the time. This backstory ties into one of the major criticisms I received where she had mostly water type moves while lacking important ones such as U-Turn or Acrobatics. I took this criticism as a new way to present Josephine since she might look and act cool, but deep down she’s not really the best. She can only really use Snipe Shot and has trouble with other moves.
Age:
28 - 27
Dislikes:
Cheating Opponents ---> Inteleon Problems
Camping ---> Feeling Incompetent
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Relationships:
Portia ( Hungry Bird ) ---> Dara ( Group Cook )
Personality:
Adaptable ---> Calm
Cooperative ---> Clear Headed
Gabriella ( Cinderace )
I decided with Gabriella to have her story focus on competition in Cinderace fashion, but have this also tie into her relationship with her own sister. The two of them often being at odds with each other is a great way for Vanissa to push wanting to show she can be more without evolving.
Age:
26 ---> 25
Likes:
Soccer ---> Sports
Spicy Curry ---> Competition
Dislikes:
Dynamax ---> Getting Blindsided
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Relationships:
Anya ( Rocking Friend ) ---> Dara ( Favorite Cook )
Personality:
Daring ---> Competitive
Vittoria ( Thievul )
I wanted to give a much better take on the young thief idea with a bit more story to her. As well as presenting the idea for why she steals more during a battle because of being impatient.
Age:
27 ---> 25
Likes:
Stealing Practice ---> Thieving Practice
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Relationships:
Amity ( Neighbor ) ---> Amity ( Slow-witted Neighbor )
Dara ( Grapploct )
Did a bit more work to present her as this odd team member who has trouble holding back, but is pretty cool to interact with when you aren’t being squeezed by her.
Age:
27 ---> 25
Dislikes:
Her Training Method ---> Holding Back
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Poke Job Volunteer
Relationships:
Louisa ( Decent Battler ) ---> Maria ( Volunteer Buddy )
Anya ( Toxtricity )
I wanted to try a better take at a character who is developed to be a loudmouth and give her a bit more depth. Now she is loudmouth that loves music and wants to battle to show it off.
Age:
27 ---> 25
Dislikes:
Music Haters → Being Silenced
Classic Music ---> Slow Music
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Dominique ( Obstagoon )
Dominique now has a bit more importance towards the overall story coming up and may or may not be related to a certain Zigzagoon. Though it is strange to see where her daughter went.
Pokemon Abilities:
Defiant ( When its stats are lowered its Attack increases. ) ---> Guts ( Boosts Attack if there is a status problem. )
Family:
( Brother ) ---> Maverick ( Brother )
Relationships:
Charles ( Piper’s friend ) ---> Portia ( Gullible Bird ),
Anya ( Music Partner ) ---> Anya ( Neighbor's Daughter )
Gabriella ( Neighbor ) ---> Amity ( Piper’s Cook )
Personality:
Tomboyish ---> Freewheeling
Hazel ( Morpeko )
As Hazel’s bio is already perfect as is, not much was needed to be done about making sure she was presented as a Morpeko struggling with her hunger.
Relationships:
Portia ( Hunger Management ) ---> Amity ( Hunger Management )
Vida ( Fossil Friend ) ---> Portia ( Cramorant Friend )
Emeline & Archer ( Dreepy & Dragapult )
I realized the mother and son dynamic that these two had makes it a little tricky for Emeline to interact with others on her own. However, someone gave me an idea that I felt was really useful to consider. What if instead of Archer being Emeline’s son, he was instead Emeline’s adopted son. This would give Emeline the dynamic of not really being a mother, but still trying to act like she is one. As a result, I rewrote Emeline from the ground up to include this idea. Also now she likes plushies
Likes:
Meat Foods ---> Plushies
Dislikes:
Destructive Pokemon ---> Feeling Alone
Family:
Archer ( Son ) ---> Archer ( Adopted Son )
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Relationships:
Vida( Fossil Pokemon ) ---> Maria ( Friendly Babysitter )
Personality:
Motherly ---> Affectionate
Stern ---> Protective
Valencia ( Duraludon )
As Arthur will be a strong impact on the story, I decided to have a character present just how much of an impact his achievements have pushed others to do what he has done. He might not be a champion, but boy does his dedication show.
Age:
32 ---> 30
Pokemon Level:
62 ---> 57
Likes:
Gigantamax ---> Target Practice
Dislikes:
Being Pushed ---> Rough Pokemon
Being Climbed On ---> Terrible Curry
Family:
( Father ) ---> ( Mother ), ( Father )
Occupation ( Job ):
Pokemon Trainer ---> Gym Challenger
Poke Job volunteer

Nobody ASKED for any of my shitty Pokemon character doodles... BUT IM IN A MOOD.
SO yall have to deal with it.
This is under a read more so dont come at me about it being annoyingly long. Blame Dumblr. Theres a SHIT TON OF DOODLES UNDER THE CUT.
First off I wanted to give Holly a whole classroom of friends... it wasnt GONNA be an all girls school... but I kept crankin of little girly Mons....
I dont actually have a shiny Darumaka or Eevee... but theyre two of my favorite shinies...
I drew these four after so theyre a bit different in style. Shiny Swirlex has the same excuse as the other two shinies... I just love the shiny colors
They also needed a teacher so I repurposed one of my older characters because I thought itd be funny to have a swan teacher... cuz swans are so scary but they care for their babies well.
Darla and Delilah can be bothered with threats because theyre safe with Mr Shandra.
Mikhail only takes classes that are small enough to fit under his wingspan so he can keep them all safe. And Eva and Tiffany learn from the best and just get pissed off like their teacher.
((Hes more bark than bite though... hes not a great fighter and a double weakness to Electric? Garbo. But he puts up a convincing enough front.))
And because he was a swan I gave him a life mate. The only other being that gets any softness from him.
He was an ex pirate.
Mikhail has no interest in criminals!!! So the captain gave up the pirate life and married a very short tempered bird and gained a lot of weight...because I wanted him chubby.
---
‘’Spider’’, Esi, and dear ol Dad. Despite Reds best efforts to keep Esi out of Osborns hands he still ended up an immensely shady bastard but at least hes not as broken as ‘’Spider’’.
I didnt finish their moms because I couldnt settle on a design for Spiders mum....
Now Spider works for Caedere his beloved boss who would never ever lie to him ever. (Hint: Spiders nature is ‘naive’)
---
I tried revamping Ray and Hebanon... but Ray still gay as hell for his boy.
I bullied Sparky a little. He’ll probably be fine even if Rays got a Mega evo. Its the name of the game Ray... hes supposed to knock his opponent out... you cant get pissed when ever Hebanon gets fucked up in battle.
---
Did I post these? Am I ever gonna finish these character sheets? No. And look I forgot the most pressing detail of Zippos and thats his fuckin Arbok mark on his back. IM A FOOL.
Kreetan and his mum and dad.
So many little comic things I’ll never finish because theres too many and instead of just stopping and finishing something I keep adding to my unfinished doodles instead. This is why I dont take requests or anything.
I time where Leif and Cyndy actually grow up?
THEY ALL HAVE CAT EARS.
Zippo is curious.
.....AS A CAT.
Polly is here too!! And shes ready to punch someone RIGHT IN THE NOODLE.
I also thought itd be nice to draw out some other Chars of Zippo and Crizs generation.
Theyre.. as you may have guessed are not finished yet.
Clem is a timid lad, Mira... not so much. Very brave
Addy is a modest princess type
Jubilee is a sassy lass.
And Criz. A sweet bashful boy whos never done anything wrong and certainly will not die because no one would be cruel enough to let that happen.
((EYES EMOJI))
Babby Clem, Addy, and Jubilee.
WHO’RE THESE ASSHOLES?!
---
Updated Mistletoe. One spooky righteous(in his own mind) lad.
She only looks stoic to start... but shes quite the weirdo.
She just got here and shes ready to go home. What a mood.
Now for some less polished individuals....
Meh meh meh lookit me IM OMI. Im gonna put three of the exact same Pokemon in the same group so Pwnyta has to suffer tryna come up with different designs.
...But I do like them. I imagine that they remain Ekans because they wont need the mark of their tribe so no one will no where they come from. So spooky.
I was torn between the codename ‘Sundown‘ and ‘Daybreak‘ for Crobat.
By day hes a wholesome trustworthy priest... by night he tortures people for a shady shady bug man. He’ll determine if youre truly innocent.
Doc has to deal with all these fuckin weirdos... he just wants to be a doctor... BUT AT WHAT COST DOC?!
This is a sequel to the doodle comic I was makin in a previous post... Kop and Doc develop an interesting friendship (In Kops mind. Its more a ‘stalker with a crush’ situation) But hey if Kops not being paid then hes got no reason to hurt Doc.
...Docs a fun character to bully because hes so smarmy and small.
---
AND NOW FOR SOME SCIENCE BITCHES.
A man of few words and an intense curiosity with mortal beings and his own existence.
A spooky lad who doesnt quite mean to torment his subordinates... its just his Pressure.
Id imagine his form changes are a bit like Iron Man in IW when hes fighting Thanos.
I drew some more science bitches...
Some casual clothes for the original three stooges.
Shes deaf Franz! She cant hear you.
Ya know IDK if itd be ‘canon‘ that they all met as kids... I just thought itd be cute. Little psychic babies all doofin off together... the most troublesome one being asleep 90% of the time due to being an Abra.... and narcoleptic. Abra sleep so much naturally... Geller sleeps even MORE... thats why hes so incredibly smart even for an Alakazam.
I had a whole little redo sketch comic idea of Mewtwo breakin loose and fuckin shit up.... (its never been finished)
Franz tries to put him to sleep. (it doesnt work. He needs Emanuel and Nola to save him and he gets his arm broken for bein such a cheeky lad.)
Mewtwo doesnt have too much of a problem with Geller due to his soft spot for kids and pure desire for knowledge... but if hes gonna protect the other assholes then PERISH.
Dont worry though big boss Deo wont let his subordinates die let alone the second smartest after him... and saves them all pretty easy. A sharp tentacle arm through the chest will stop even Mewtwo.
Some booboos happen tho...
But hes fine eventually and finds his ex wife home watchin the kids.
Shes promptly expelled.
Geller also goes back for Dilla and steals him. Lifes too short not to adopt an ancient fossil baby.
Emanuel isnt delighted... but he doesnt have the heart to call the authorities on a man who risked his life to save him.
Fossil Mons come in two types-- Resurrected fossils which have the skin color of the primary coloring of their Pokemon form so they can be solid black or blue or red or w/e... Ancestors of ancient Pokemon have normal skin tones.
And another comic sketch idea... where Geller and Roswell are gifted with some fancy new Mega stones... Ros? Not too keen on the idea hes seen what can happen to a bitch when they Mega Evo... he aint got time for that. Geller goes HARD for SCIENCE.
Ros: Geller I know your a spoon guy but stick a fork in that bastard cuz hes done. COOKED. If he thinks im riskin my ass for his bullshit. Lets go tell him off together (im scared to go without you...)
Geller: We experiment on living things all the time for the sake of scientific progress.... are we really too good to be subject to our own studies?
Ros: YES. ABSOLUTELY.
After seeing Geller use his without hesitation, putting his body through a world of hurt for the sake of SCIENCE!!! Ros couldnt pussy out on his boy...
His Mega is just FABULOUS and now he loves it.
--
I was also makin a team with the Pokemon that have the highest stats (non Legends/Psudos/Megas) but I got bored after Blissey. She has a Togekiss wife I didnt finish either... Oh well.
Shes a bold lass and prefers double battles with her support wife. She doesnt like using dangerous moves as its in her nature as a Blissey to heal.
---
(I forgot his whiskers... OH WELL)
I wanted to give Flaminio some people who missed him after he got spirited away by his Ghosts.
After he disappeared people looked for him but he was never found and years and years went by and people stopped looking. Even Clove and Ceto had to move on.
Koban is a loyal bitch though and he never let it go. He still wants his friend back. Hes an old boy now... so old people probably call him ‘Nekomata‘ and wonder when his tail is gonna split.

I’m just going to make another post and delete the old one. This one will be more in depth with what Pokemon are planned to be in the game. Will be adding to this as it grows.
I revamped every cut Pokemon from Spaceworld ‘97 to use in this game. I had to sort of guess what kind of stats they would have based on their looks. (Unless they’re an evolution or pre-evolution. Those are pretty easy for me to guess.) Most of the Pokemon from the Demo will retain their original name, unless I change my mind. Some though I just wanted to use different names for them for... Some reason.
Some of these will probably have minor changes to them in the future. (Specifically the outlines of some of them... Okay maybe almost all of them.)
I don’t know if I’m going to bother revamping any of the cut Pokemon from Red and Green. Mostly since I would have to trace over the art from the book first, and some of them are cut off. They’re also in black and white so it would be hard to tell what’s supposed to be what.
I also recorded myself making the sprites! (Just in case I lost them just like I lost a lot of the faces.)
Starters
Well, technically Tauros will be your starter. (And your bike.) But you get to pick from one of these three anyway,
Kurusu, Akua and Akueria, the water starter line.
Honoguma, Borubeea and Dainabea, the fire starter line
Happa, Hanamogura, and Tilian Meganium, the grass starter line. The difference between these and the regular Chikorita line (besides the elephant in the room) is that Meganium is going to have a Dragon typing as it’s second type! I may even just let all three of them be part dragon. Doubtful, but if I feel like Grass/Dragon Meganium isn’t enough to make it as appealing as the other two starters, I just might. For now though I did add “poison” to Hanamogura.
I didn’t make them any bigger because for some reason they just appear so much bigger than the other two lines in the post. It was kind of an eyesore.
Cut Evolutions
These were cut from Pokemon Gold for some reason. I’m bringing them back.
Buddmitto. (Maybe just “Budmitt” in the final.) A second evolution for Weepinbell if a Poison Stone is used. This Pokemon favors Special Attack over Attack and can learn more Special Grass moves than Physical.
Madamu, the evolution for Farfetch’d. It doesn’t really make sense for this Pokemon to have been cut. Farfetch’d was important to the story at one point of the second gen games. This would’ve been a perfect introduction to “old Pokemon having new evolutions” but nooo~!
Quiddlefish... Okay so my husband took one look at it when I was working on revamping it and said “It’s a Quiddlefish!” so... Yeah. I removed the lightning bolt that was on it’s head because there was literally no reason for it to be there.
Removed Baby Pokemon
So far these all evolve just by leveling up, since in the demo Leveling by Happiness wasn’t a thing.
Koonya, baby Meowth
Mikon, baby Vulpix
Monja, baby Tangela
Pudi, baby Growlithe. I decided to call his species “gud boi.”
Para, baby Paras. This design actually raises some questions.
Peticorn. (Petite unicorn... Despite not being a unicorn.) Baby Ponyta.
Dododo, baby Doduo... Yeah, I know. 3-2-3 doesn’t make any sense. I kind of want to give it a Pokedex entry that has two of the babies consuming one somehow, and then that one coming back for revenge in Dodrio. I... I don’t fucking know.
Betobebe, baby Grimer. Look at it! It’s so cute!
I may have baby Goldeen in the game too. I revamped the sprite and even made interesting boy/girl variants, but err... There doesn’t seem to be a way to have that separation yet.
Completely Cut Pokemon
Rinrin and Bellune, dark type cats
Bomushika, fire/water type seal
Manboo, Ikari and Grotesu, water into water/steel... I don’t understand either.
Norowara and Kyonpan, ghost types. What’s interesting about Norowara is that it apparently evolves at level 1 in the demo, which is literally impossible, so I’m making it evolve at level 2. At the start it will only know Confuse Ray and Curse, and only have 1 HP with Wonder Guard. Once evolved it will have a normal HP stat. It could be good for a “bomb,” meaning that it could sacrifice itself by using Curse on a particularly hard to beat Pokemon, but that does mean that it won’t gain any EXP.
Kotora and Raitora, thunder cats
And Gorotora. I found out recently that a third evolution was planned for gen 1 before it was dropped even sooner than Kotora and Raitora. I wouldn’t have bothered except I was commissioned to do a saber tooth Pokemon anyway, so I figured that I might as well. This one will probably be evolved using a Thunder Stone.
Urufuman and Warwolf, ice type... The concept of these two confuses the hell out of me, but those claws look like the claws of Weavile so I’m just going to say that these are a Sneasel and a Weavile who couldn’t develop feet claws so they murdered an innocent Pokemon to make them look intimidating. That Pokemon doesn’t exist but maybe I’ll make it exist someday I dunno. (Or maybe I’ll make the Pokemon they killed look like existing Pokemon, like Arcanine.)
...How did the suit evolve with them? Why would an Ice Pokemon need a coat?
Cloyster... Again. Water/Psychic type. Evolves from Shellder with a Slowpoke’s tail. (As gruesome of a mental image that is.) I may change the name of this one because it will be mostly different from the original Cloyster... Just not into “Turbann.” (I’ll come up with something else, maybe.)
Noxeon, poison type. (May change the name later.) This one wasn’t technically cut. Umbreon was originally going to be a Poison type but they switched it to Dark to show off the new type. I decided that if I was going to make this, I would use Umbreon as a base. (It’s a different Umbreon sprite than the one in the game.) I may make the ears blend in like the tail later. I don’t know how Eevee would evolve into this yet.
This one isn’t actually going to be in this build, which is why it’s all blurred out. But it is a Pokemon that was cut! I would give a hint to it’s role in my game, but that would probably be giving it away.
Pokemon made up my me, my husband or other
Eeveeon, evolved from leveling up to... 32? I dunno. This is the conversation exactly:
Husband: “Eevee needs a normal type evolution that’s just a fluffier version of it!”
Me: “So... A brown Flareon?”
Huband: “Yes!”
Vespitos (Vespa/custos, or the Latin word for “guard”)
I wanted to make a male evolution for Combee and this is what I came up with on the spot. It’s weaker than Vespiquen (With around 380 total base stats) but can still hold it’s own. You can evolve Combee into it at level 18 instead of 21 and it focuses more on attack than on defense.
Deloris, grass/ghost type. When I saw it, my immediate thoughts were “I need to make this NOW!” I don’t know if I’ll “make” a Fizzbitch move. (I would just be replacing the name of one move to “Fizzbitch.” Probably one of the legendary exclusive moves from a legendary Pokemon that’s not going to be in the game. Hell, I’ll probably turn Deloris into a Legendary!)
I have no idea if I want other 4Chan Pokemon in the game. Possibly not, considering that this one has an official canon mystery behind it that we still don’t have the answer to, but the others have been solved... Maybe Tentaquil.
Alternative Luvdisc colors! So some context: I made some very boring hearts (and “friendship circles) to show how much a person likes you. I decided to change it to Luvdiscs, but then I got an idea for a festival where you can catch these alternative Luvdisc (and OG) and if you catch all of them, you can get something cute for your house!
Also the “Friendship circles” are now Pokeballs.
(Other) Tilian Pokemon
Somebody who goes by Obermarschall on Reddit commissioned me to make a bunch of Pokemon, including some Delta/Alolan Pokemon. I can’t really see a use for some of them but I can see a use for most of them... And use them I shall!
Fairy Stantler, based on Disney’s version of Bambi. Obermarschall is going to be using a version that’s more orange in color so this version may only appear in my game!
Ice/Grass Eggxecute and Eggxegutor. They’re pine cones. I love these ideas. Though again the Eggxegutor that Obermarschall’s going to have different legs. I just prefer this one over the one they’re going to be using.
Ice Numel and Camerupt. The Numel is so fucking CUTE!
Dark/Normal Snubbel and Granbull.
Water Shuckle. Look at him. Look at him and BOW DOWN!
He’s so cute! I love him!
Maybe
Animon, depending on what Meltan or whatever it’s called turns out to be like in battle. I would have to make this a pretty special Pokemon to make people bother to evolve Ditto, which will be pretty hard to do if it’s only going to be able to transform.
Meltitan (yes I am calling it that) kinda destroyed any connection to Animon it may have had. Dammit.
They’re ground Growlithe and Arcanine based on dingos. I love them, but I realized that I would have to make Pudi part ground type too, and I don’t want to do that. Not in this game at least. Maybe I can make them part of... I dunno. Some other region, and you can trade for these two plus ground Pudi.
Ground type Ponyta and Rapidash... Only they’re zebras. They’re “maybes” for the same reason.
In the game Obermarschall’s making, they’ll be fighting/ground... I don’t know how to make it obvious that they’re part fighting so I just opted for using those poses.

Character Breakdown: Pidge Gunderson, aka Katie Holt, wins. Again, protag of 60.5% of my fics.Lance McClain has a good second place, but I focused more on Pidge throughout because I like her more
BESTS AND WORSTS
Best Title(s)? I’m very fond of Through the Looking Glass because I’m a fan of Lewis Carroll and Alice in Wonderland. Also, Growing Plance because I like puns and I adore that ship name.
Worst Title? This Guy’s… I am NOT proud of that one.
Best First Line? From Just Like Home
“Voltron’s yellow paladin walked into the kitchen with one purpose: snacking.”
I like that line because, like why else would you walk into a kitchen lol
Worst First Line? Direct okay. From New Soul Revamped!
“It was a bright day in the Land of Fire and in the Village Hidden in the Leaves as well.”
I don’t like it because if it’s bright in the Land of Fire, it’s gonna be bright in the Leaf Village duh you idiot
Best Last Line? Well… From Preprogrammed
“‘So,’ she concluded, ‘Why would someone else’s robot flirt with my boyfriend?’”
Because same, girl, same.
but ALSO from Growing Plance
“In a fierce whisper, she spoke to PM3, ‘Pidge McClain III. Not. One. Word.’”
I adore this line because Pidge is so cute in that one.
Worst Last Line? Calling for it again ooh boy. From This Guy’s…
“’Hunk,’ Lance glanced to him, stifling snickers, ‘What do you think of Katie’s new haircut?’”
That line is such a week ending ugh.
GENERAL QUESTIONS
Looking back, did you write more or less fics than you expected?
Way more, mostly because of Pidgance month (it brought upon over half of my fics this year.)
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you wouldn’t have expected last year?
Considering I just got into Voltron this year… Pidgance and Voltron. I mostly stick to the same genres, though…
What’s your favorite story that you wrote?
Through the Looking Glass because I wear glasses and every time someone tells me that I explode I’ve ruined so many outfits with that pls help
What’s your most popular story?
On tumblr, with 72 notes as of 01-01-2018 (one more than the second place spot) is Treasured
One fanfiction.net Dadrien leads with 119 faves (eight above the second place spot) as of 01-01-2018
Least popular story?
Oh boy… on tumblr, it’s Making People with 5 notes
On fanfiction.net Let It Sink In has only 3 faves
Fic that could use the most improvement?
Emphasis on “the most” because ALL my fics could use improvement to some extent. But the one that needs it the most is Marinette DuPun-Cheng. It was just… awful. I’d scrap it completely and never look back, but I use it as a standing point to say “I’m getting better all the time”
Sexiest Fic? *winks with with both eyes*
SPOILER ALERT
HA! I don’t really write sex scenes… So… The closest would be The Ultimate Ninjutsu, where Naruto uses Sexy Jutsu during the bell-test
Saddest Story?
I don’t write sad stories much either… But I’d have to say
It’s “Pining,” Not “Piping” or That Cute Green Monster
one of those is the saddest, but I can’t decide which.
Most fun to write?
Oh goodness. Three-way tie!
of Voltron, Hopelance Romantic
of Miraculous Ladybug, How to Pick Up Ladybugs
of Camp Camp, Pixie and the Python
Story with single sweetest moment?
Hm. Good question… What is a “sweet moment” though? A moment of genuine connection and caring shown between two people whether romantic, platonic, or familial?
Literally all of Making People is Max doing his best to show Nerris he’s trying. I think that’s really sweet. But also, Treasured is really sweet I think
Hardest story to write?
New Soul Revamped! is really hard because I failed once I’m trying really hard not to fail again.
Hopelance Romantic was also hard, just because I had to keep deleting and rewriting because my first few drafts were unsatisfactory
Easiest story to write?
Freedom was literally me just expressing after making it through finals so
Did any stories shift your perception of characters?
Writing Marinette Dupain-Cheng made me think Marinette was boring unless Ladybug was directly involved.
Most overdue story?
I don’t really put deadlines on my stories… But I guess Tall Tales was uploaded like a day after the prompt dictated?
Did you take any writing risks this year?
This is JNPR is my first multichapter romcom, and I’m not far in, but I’ve learned that you can’t be lenient with your readers because no ending is acceptable
What are your writing goals for 2018?
Ohhh boy… I guess I want to keep up with my multichapter fics, This Is JNPR, New Soul Revamped, and Getting into Character. Also, I want to branch out into some other fandoms, too
Wow. Thanks for tagging me. Doing this has felt amazing.
What now? Snack? Snack.

Majority of my followers know what Wakfu is, but not all know about the game: how many wounds it left in my heart, and everyone else’s. This post isn’t gonna be precisely explaining the wrongs that Wakfu did, I just wanted to mention that, in aftermath, it was a disaster of a game that left its most loyal players hurt, disappointed and immensely sad. I still keep meeting people who love this franchise, but can’t stand the game anymore since it’s.. Changed too much and didn’t stay enjoyable, to say mildly. I’m surrounded by, literally, traumatized veterans who look back at the good old days and shed tears. And I’ve been talking a lot about GW2 recently, not for no reason.
I want you to heal, just like I did. I mean.. I’m still hurt over Wakfu and I’ll stay this way forever, but I found a game where you can feel safe, loved, cared about. Devs in GW2 are humans who talk to us, who put smileys and memes in their posts, who hang out on reddit and ingame. This’s one of the major and striking differences between Wakfu and GW2. I’m still genuinely stunned by my own experience with customer support, I had a few troubles during my 1.5 years in GW2 and the response was not only fast and effective, it was HUMAN AND CUTE. I’m still not over it. Now that I’ve been invited to be a creative partner.. I’m still not over it too. They shower their regular players and content creators in gentle attention and kindness. I cry. During the 5+ years of being the most active and visible artist in Wakfu fandom, literally promoting it with thousands of drawings, I’ve never got a tiniest bit of official recognition. Not even a single placement on official media. When I took part in contests, I never won. Overall it’s been a one-way street. During my first 1.5 years in GW2, I’ve been noticed, picked up by the team, pampered and spoiled to the point of barely believing it’s true. That’s my personal experience, but it should indicate Anet’s general attitude towards the players. They. Do. Care.
I just wanna try and convince more ex-Wakfu players to give GW2 a shot. The two games are different in the visual and core gameplay aspects, yes, transitioning from an isometric 2D turn-based to a 3D, real-time game was somewhat harsh, but boy, how glad I am that I did it.
There’s EVEN MORE TEXT, brace yourselves. :D In GW2, I found everything that I wish was in Wakfu.
GW2 is a true sandbox. You log in, you do whatever the fuck you want. Level your first (second, 12th, 33rd, 68th) char? Grind mobs and dungeons? NO. Run around, look for events, explore, literally everything you do and everywhere you go, gives xp. You can level via crafting! Which, btw, is relevant throughout the entire game, unlike in Wakfu.
You do have dungeons of two kinds, and you CAN farm them if you want, but it’s your deliberate decision. There ARE farms in GW2, but they’re fun, if you’re not trying to get a legendary weapon in a month. I personally like running around with a bunch of random people who are there to FARM events in a specific map, but that happens once every two months.
Said legendary weapons ARE hard to get and yes, they can get you burnt out in no time if you don’t have a concept of a “long term goal”. Leggies are a prestige item, and, just like other prestige items (auras, specific minis, skins, etc), they’re meant to be your ultimate show-off item. People see you and know that you’ve been through.. A lot. BUT. Your hard-earned prestige item is to stay prestige. I assume you know relics in Wakfu? Then you must know what happened to them after a few years.
There’s no devaluing in GW2. Your trophies stay relevant and rare. Your prizes, your exclusive titles, skins, etc stay exclusive. You aren’t losing half of your wealth just because the devs decided to revamp ALL GEAR FOR THE THIRD TIME.
Speaking of the gear, the orange set you get at 80, is endgame gear. GW2 is 5 years old, so that orange gear is. People crafted it on the release and.. It stayed endgame. Yes, there’s also pink gear, which ~5% better than orange and is only needed if you do high lvl fractals or are min-maxing in raids. If you’re casual or just starting, you don’t even have to think about it. But once you craft your set, it stays relevant forever. People’s effort is never shoved up their asses.
There’s no constant carrot-on-a-stick gear upgrades. Level cap is 80 since release and will stay so. The game promotes safety and stability, that’s what attracted me. You take a 2 years break? No problem, you log in and go play. Nothing has lost its value, you don’t feel inferior, you don’t need to catch up to play with your friends.
Which reminded me: there’s a wonderfully done level downscale system. You’re a lvl 80 in a lvl 16 zone? Your stats are auto-adapted so the enemies you fought as a noob are still dangerous, and your reward (xp/gold/materials) is adapted to your true lvl. You go and play anywhere you want, and get fair rewards.
Crafting materials of all levels are also demanded and relevant. Oh yeah, you can run around for hours just gathering wood/ore, familiar to Wakfu players? It’s nice and relaxing until you meet another player. Well, in GW2 all gathering nodes are NOT shared. You see a tree? It’s your tree. That dude who runs up to it won’t steal it from you.
Oh also there’s no kill steal! Which is big, imo. You’re encouraged to play together, to help people kill stuff, to contribute to any event you see around, since everyone gets rewarded equally.
Legendary stability of GW2 servers. Lemme just say: there’s no weekly maintenance. There is. No. Downtime. Even on the big update days, you can download and play pretty safely. If there’s a hotfix, the game KINDLY WARNS YOU that you need to update and you have TWO FLIPPING HOURS to do so. Before you did that, you still can play, finish whatever you were up to.
Everything revolves around player’s happiness and convenience. There are constant quality-of-life updates. Your bags are full of crap? Here, salvage it into materials with two clicks, then deposit into your bank with two clicks (from anywhere in the world), then compact the rest of your shit. Yeah, with two clicks. x’D
There’s wonderful Fashion Wars. The game offers so much customization, and it’s taken so seriously, that it’s one of the endgame aspects. There’s 30000+ achievement points to earn, which are mostly fun and make you go out of your usual way. Dailies? You get 10 points and 2 gold for doing 3 easy tasks that take ~15 minutes.
There’s LORE. There’s fun little interactions all over the world. You just did an event? Stay here and listen, probably npcs will say/do something and start another event, logically following the previous one. The world lives and breathes. You can just walk around and observe. You’ll learn so much. And of course, there’s always a good cause to laugh. Dialogues/reactions are just hilarious sometimes.
Regarding the lore: there’s a so-called personal story which accompanies you up to lvl 80, then there’s “living world”, smaller events and single maps being rolled out every once in a while - so far there’s 2 seasons available, and 1 being “historical”, not playable anymore. In that season, they fucking crushed the main capital city. It changed forever. It was an epic event, which I missed, but watched people’s videos later. Then season 2, then HoT, then season 3, and now we’re waiting for PoF, second expansion. The updates have picked a nice pace and are frequent now.
There’s just so much to do. Just go, dive into the world and drown forever. :3c And meet me on the bottom. x’DD
GW2 feels different from Wakfu, but I found similarities for myself. It’s a sandbox after all, and later endgame has a lot of strategy. GW2 is never tank-and-spank. You just, literally, can’t facetank shit here. You gotta use your skills wisely, time your dodges, play with traits/passives until it all flows together. You’ve got a HUGE BUILD FREEDOM. There’s 9 classes, each having at least 3 defined roles, with more variations. You don’t just go ranger (oh archer it’s like a cra rite??) and do pew pew from max distance. Well, yes, you have a bow and can pew pew.. Or you can be a melee fighter, you can be a full blown healer/support.. As a ranger, yes.
I’ll be wrapping up now, I swear. GW2 is true f2p. Which of course does have a few restrictions (can’t trade or use map-chat), but you can get to 80, gear up and explore to your heart’s content before you decide to pay. I personally played for 5 months, every day, before I bought HoT.
Why’d you buy an expansion? More story, more maps, new class traits, gliding in HoT and mounts in PoF. The expansion and living world content has been constantly improving, visually, mechanically and lore/writing-wise.
Other than that, there’s a gemstore offering cosmetic and convenience items (gems can be bought for cash OR ingame gold). There are infamous rng boxes, but none of those are p2w. GW2 is oriented at the western consumer, which means, yeah, they know that we hate p2w and they’ll never do that to us.
*breathes out* I had to get that off my chest. I wanna talk about GW2 forever, but it’s exhausting to do one-on-one. :P Hopefully someone’s still reading this!
Now lemme remind you that now I have those partner links, if you use this to create a new account and play for free (for an hour or two months? w/e), or this to buy an expansion, I’ll get paid a bit. Not much, but it definitely helps!
And I was gonna write this wall of text regardlessly of the partnership one day, now I just have more incentive. x’DD Plus, we’re gonna have a beta weekend on 11-13 august, where you can preview the second expansion for free! It’s a perfect timing to write this post and try convincing you. You’ll just need a f2p account, and you’ll be given a lvl 80 boost and whatnot for that beta weekend. I’m not sure yet, but I assume you WILL. Just please register using my link above, so that I get paid for the two hours I spent on this post. :D
#wakfu#gw2#guild wars 2#please read it's like a matter of life and death to me#gw2 is everything for me right now#and i want YOU to play a game which would love you back

Legion - the good, the bad, the “what the flying fuck were you thinking, Blizzard?”
Let’s kick this off with the good since I’m a pessimist at heart and I like to set things up before I knock them down.
The return of class quests - these were great in my opinion. It was nice to have more long-term goals to work towards this time, and the unique questlines for each class helps make playing alts slightly more bearable since you’re getting a different experience each time.
World Quests - huge improvement over dailies in my opinion, even if it’s ultimately a smaller change. Now you can at least choose which zone you wanna do your dailies in and if you don’t care for them you can just do the four you need for your cache and that’s it. Mixing in PVP quests into the mix is also a nice way to try and get some more world PVP action out there, even if it ultimately didn’t work out that way.
Mythic Plus - Mythic+ was SUCH a good fucking idea. It’s nice to have a smaller group alternative to raiding for gear and the different affixes are actually challenging and require you to change how you play and build your character. Granted, some of the affixes are ball-busters, but that’s the point.
Individual challenge modes - I’ve been loving the challenge modes this expansion. It’s so nice to have an encounter that’s built with your spec in mind and is a test of your mechanics and skill as a player, with a (mostly) cool cosmetic reward tied into it so if you suck you don’t feel like you’re missing too much.
Actual regular content releases - Everyone who played WoD knows how shitty the content drought was. Thankfully Legion isn’t WoD and we’re actually getting new dungeons, raids and events pretty often. We haven’t had an entire content patch devoted to a fucking selfie camera so far.
The return of Karazhan - The new dungeon revamp of Kara was a neat idea. I liked it more as the “mega dungeon” it was when they debuted it before Blizzard split it into two halves, but it’s still a great dungeon to run and it’s a new twist on an old raid. And now you have TWO Attumen mounts to chase.
All of the little Easter Eggs laid around the game - The amount of care and detail they put into hiding some of these is astonishing. Things like the hidden artifact appearances (especially the Ashbringer one - they literally took every old Ashbringer rumor from vanilla and threw them into one questline), the Kosumoth hidden quest with the orbs, returning to Gnomeregan to fight a 5-man raid boss, and so many more. I’m so glad that they actually put their heart into this expansion and it really shows.
And now the bad, and boy is it bad.
Artifacts - Right off the bat, artifacts were a big mixed bag. Up until 7.2 the grind was absolutely insane and drove a lot of players away from the expansion, especially the altoholics. Artifact knowledge and power punished rolling alts, punished people who wanted to change specs, and even punished people for staying with the same spec because you were never more than one nerf away from all that AP you threw into those swords meaning fuck all. They’ve managed to iron out most of the issues regarding the artifact grind now, but that’s a full year later.
Legendaries - RNG legendaries are already a mistake. RNG legendaries that are core to making your spec work and flow smoothly are an even bigger mistake. RNG legendaries that have effects that were literally ripped out of your talent tree from the previous expansion is just insulting. Ultimately Legion legendaries don’t even feel legendary - I got most of mine from world quest cache boxes and that shit feels like a participation trophy. I didn’t earn it, you just gave it to me, and now I have BiS gear forever. Or worse, you got Sephuz’s Secret, in which case you’re probably considering re-rolling. Like, the fact that BAD LEGENDARIES EXIST is baffling to me.
Number inflation - Sweet fucking lord, I do over a million DPS now. I have six million health as a DPS class. Bosses have billions of health. I’m getting artifact power boosts in the billions. I pop an Execute crit and the damn game’s considering making the numbers continue in a second row the crit is so huge. It’s really not that big a deal all things considered, but once numbers reach a certain threshold they kind of lose all meaning for the observer, and I think WoW’s passed that point a long time ago. I can’t wait for the stat and ilevel squish in Battle for Azeroth.
Pruning and class balance - Did we seriously need another fucking pruning? I didn’t think we had any spells LEFT to prune but Blizzard surprised me yet again. Some classes are down to four-button rotations and it’s fucking stupid. Also their idea of “class fantasy” is a joke and their efforts to make each spec more unique made a lot of them feel more generic and samey. Warriors don’t even have stances anymore for fuck’s sake - tell me how that makes the class more unique? Or DKs with their presences? Why does Shaman have a blue rage bar now instead of mana? Artifacts also played into this since it shoehorned your spec into using only one kind of weapon. Did you like two-handed frost? Too bad, you dual wield now. Did you like single-minded fury? Too bad, two-handers. Give me back my fucking Gladiator Stance, god dammit.
Time gating - Absolutely FUCK time gating. Don’t make me wait literal days to finish your stupid questline due to order hall mission table bullshit. Don’t make me do only one Suramar quest a week before waiting for the next one. If someone is able to play the game all day let them. Don’t sit here and tell people “no you’ve had enough fun for today”, because if you tell them this enough they’ll leave and go to a game that won’t tell them that. I don’t even no-life this game but I see no reason to hinder the people that do. Players shouldn’t be punished for wanting to play your game.
Order Halls and Mission Tables - Please for the love of God, never ever do these again. Nothing takes people out of the game more than sending someone ELSE to do the adventuring for them. This is a fucking MMO, not FarmVille. I don’t want to micro-manage an entire village’s worth of idiots and tell them what to do all day and I wouldn’t if you didn’t make this shit mandatory to finish the class and new content questlines. And then you have the audacity to time gate it so I have to wait days at a time for missions to clear so I can do another one of the FIVE I HAVE LEFT TO DO.
There’s so much more I could have done for both good and bad things about Legion, but this shit’s approaching thesis paper length so I’m just gonna cut it off here. In short, I think that for every one step forward they took with Legion, they took two steps back. The things they added in that make the game more fun get almost immediately offset by the things that either make your playing experience a pain in the ass or just outright tell you you’re not allowed to keep going on the thing you were having fun with. Ultimately Legion is a good expansion that is seriously being held back from being one of the best by this sort of shit and I really do hope they learn from their mistakes here and make Battle for Azeroth a truly great expansion. PS - Suramar and Pathfinder were great, fuck casuals.

p5 thoughts
After having drawn so much fanart of p5 (most of it being Yusuke) before the game even came out, even with my hype when I started playing on the release date, I only FINALLY finished persona 5 OTL
Below will be my mini-review and thoughts on the game?? spoilers are gonna here on the entire game
Total playtime - 87 hours 40 minutes
OK this is gonna be disorganized mess but i will try to be .. not messy Story: The story unfortunately was very weak :( Like the game had an AMAZING start and it was tackling really important issues. I really started to care about Ryuji and Ann and their goals. Then Yusuke joins and I thought the game was just heading in perfect direction. Then I felt off during Kaneshiro’s arc as Makoto did not really feel .. really into the whole PT thing?? sorry Makoto fans i love her but she felt rly overrated... anyway Futaba’s arc no doubt was my favorite but then the game really started falling apart. like lets not talk about the whole series of events that were Morgana leaving the team that was straight up BAD. the pacing picked up a bit for the Casino dungeon and it was really intense then its Shido and thing kinda... fell back into this weird pacing ... Ah yes, let’s just wait 20 days to see if Shido has a change of heart or we die. After that the pacing was still all over the place then the huge plottwist happens. I knew about it but still liked it! The last arc had on point emotions and feels so it felt like a good ending to the game. SEVERE PACING ISSUES KILL THE GAME FOR ME THOUGH. I get that they still wanted the calendar system but honestly i dont think it worked any huge favors for the game . .. anyway yeah the game started amazing then dropped close to death then picked up again but not as good as the beginning Characters: I have not managed to finish a lot of confidants so near the end the parts where confidants help out it was .. very lacking lol .. . if that part wasnt so depended on the confidants that you have finished.... But overall the characters were good. Pacing of the story and the story itself did not do any justice to them I think and it feels bad bc everyone had so much potential but having a big cast it was obvious that not everyone was getting the attention they deserved Ryuji - good bro and I loved him but the middle part of the game and the constant “we gotta get the girls!” moments were so . . ugh ... confidant rank and beginning of game ryuji was absolute best though Ann - same goes for her as with ryuji that the beginning of the game was best characterization moment for her. I liked her a lot and she’s pretty bro for female heroine! but the constant fanservice kills me guys Morgana - boy did i dislike morgana for the most of the game. he really felt like teddie 2.0 at times and i just did not have a lot motivation to like him. Last arc of the game tho?? i love morgana??? i wanna cry tbh those parts near the end really resonated with me so my final verdict is that i like morgana a lot now Yusuke - I LOVE THIS BOY. while i get the beef that people have with his recruitment arc (the whole nude modeling thing) I thought it was ok since my interpretation is that he was just pissed and really needed that inspiration he found in ann but idk. otherwise his arc was good but goddamn fuck you atlus for continuously treating him like a weirdo?? PT is supposed to be a gang of misfits and yet even the teammates keep treating him like a weirdo. . that was just really bad like come on let me kiss yusuke and feed him. also will never forgive atlus for not letting yusuke move into leblanc. He’s a very good character and very level-headed so i love him sm. he has really great moments Makoto - I liked her a lot! i do think she’s a bit overrated and that she doesn’t fit well with PT but I think that’s just the issue with Atlus pacing of the story, because her issues during her recruitment were really good (as in i did feel like she would fit into PT well) Futaba - I LOVE THIS GIRL!! I played with jpn dub which I think does much better justice to her characterization. Her entire arc was so so good and I felt like she was a really solid character going through growth. her confidant was very very good. She has a lot of funny moments and I love her antics with Yusuke. they are the blessed characters of this game. too good for this game. Haru - love her too!!!! she was so nice and sweet but damn atlus did not do her justice at all. she is the “last” party member to join and it is so sad she does not get a lof interaction with PT. like I wish PT interacted with her somehow throughout the game before she joins, be it like help her out sometimes or something bc they go to same school so when she joins later the team dynamic can easily accept her. Goro - we dont talk about goro jk but honestly he was handled bad. his link was automatic and I get why but his initial personality just makes me hate him a lot. he was cool as a party member but not for long. I expect him to appear in spinoffs bc wtf was that ending for him goddamn atlus. i like a lot his potential as a character but everything else? hate Sae was for me quite funny during the interrogation (when you start the confidant parts) but after her casino her involvement in the story I really ended up liking Sae. she’s good Also gonna mention Sojiro bc i love that coffee dad. His dynamic with Futaba and protagonist was extremely good!!! such a solid family. I loved that he finds out the truth and how he handled it. love u sojiro Speaking of protagonist, I really really really wish atlus would ease up on the “silent protagonist” a bit more. for a game as huge as this, the silence does not do justice to the protagonist. idk i just wish there would have been a bit more voice to him and solid characterization other than some off-hand comments that imply the underlying personality. i get the whole “self-insert” part but it sucks stop putting it in games Overall character summary: pacing sucked so characterization suffered a lot. a lot of characters don’t get their time to shine and while I love them a lot it really sucks to see how they were treated. Pacing ruined a lot of things including team dynamic. Palaces: (in chronological order) Kamoshida/Castle - IT SUCKED I HATE IT. being the first freaking dungeon it sure was extremely hard and damn long. also not knowing about the calling car system really hurt lmao. i just hate this dungeon and i got stuck there a lot too Madarame/Art Museum - THE BEST ONE! Honestly I think it is the only palace that really did feel like a heist! It is a very beautiful palace and im probably also biased bc its Yusuke’s arc but this palace was legit fun to get through. Kaneshiro/Bank - it was ok, good music. i don’t really feel much for it and I was just mostly annoyed how long the vault part was. Futaba/Pyramid - I loved it a lot too! 10/10 music I had a lot of annoyances with coffin shadows and the puzzles for a bit but overall the music and aesthetics really made the palace work well with the story Okumura/Spaceship - we don’t talk about the “lunch break” parts.... overall it was ok and I liked its aesthetic. also the implications about the workers there was good sad material. Sae/Casino - 10/10 music. overall i disliked it a lot bc some of the parts really dragged and I hated gambling in there to progress. Shido/Ship - 10/10 music. overall i liked it / it was ok. the mouse mechanic was a bit fun, the last part being ... 3 boss fights in a row without saving was sure something. 10/10 creepy outside aesthetic of sunken city. Mementos Depths - not to be confused w/ p3/4 style dungeon we know as mementos (which were pretty much mindless fun to progress thru), the depths was ... so good. mostly for the creepy aesthetic 10/10 would suffer again. the music track Freedom and Security, that plays during goro’s bad end credits, plays as the theme for this dungeon and jeez did it make me feel so emo. the parts where you can talk to locked up people who are apathetic to the world just gave me depression and i loved it.. . i didnt really like the later part of it (when tokyo merges with mementos) To rank the palaces overall its: Art museum > Mementos Depths > Pyramid >> Ruse Cruise > Spaceship > Casino > Bank >>>>>> Castle Gameplay mechanics were very solid and fun. Movement a bit could be clunky (or that’s what i felt like) and stealth mechanic in dungeons was ok. The gameplay has A LOT of attention to detail and i appreciated it a lot. UI was cluttered but it worked and was quite Aesthetic. I think the game would have benefited if the stats weren’t so important to the social aspect or if the calendar system was revamped. Final boss imo was not as bad as P4 but still ... sucked. P3′s final boss fight is still ultimately my favorite. P5 comes close but once again, pacing issues. Protagonist summoning freaking Satanael was cool af though. Honestly my big issue with P5 was the PACING that made the story and characters suck a lot of times but overall the game was extremely solid and memorable. Of the persona entries i played i think P5 is special so I can’t really rank it. I am really attached to the game despite its heavy flaws that kill me. P3 and P2 are still quite my favorites but P5 is like really close to them so I guess it’s a fave too i love those phantom thieves

Persona 5 Royal Review — This Palace’s Treasure Gleams Even Brighter
March 17, 2020 9:00 AM EST
The long-awaited Persona 5 Royal is finally upon us, with tons of new content and gameplay overhauls to create a more robust experience.
Persona 5 Royal is the upgraded version of the immensely popular JRPG that originally released in Japan back in 2016. With this definitive edition of the game comes a variety of new changes which include two new characters and Confidants, a brand new semester and Palace that culminates in two new endings, new gameplay mechanics, and reworked dungeons and boss battles.
There are also a variety of new minigames, gameplay balance fixes, expanded character scenes, and so much more. While it might still share much of the same DNA as the original Persona 5, Atlus has packed P5R full of new content that is sure to delight newcomers and veterans of the original with a far more robust experience.

“Atlus has packed Persona 5 Royal full of new content that is sure to delight newcomers and even veterans of the original with a far more robust experience.”
Royal starts off with a bang as it brandishes two of its biggest additions in the prologue. The protagonist, codenamed Joker, ends up using his grappling hook to reach a new area of the stairwell during his chase scene. Afterward, he encounters a mysterious and masked young woman, who wields a Persona, and aids him in battle. She departs just as abruptly as she arrived — with parting words hinting at her relationship to him — and Joker continues on his way.
Following this opening, we delve into the story proper: a tale of high school students who band together with the help of a cat-like ally named Morgana to dive into the hearts of rotten adults. Known as the “Phantom Thieves,” they slowly become infamous both online and in the real world and are soon pulled into a much greater and more sinister plot.
While the main premise from the original Persona 5 remains intact, it soon becomes apparent that the story has been tangibly altered due to the added presence of the two new characters. First is the mysterious girl, Kasumi, whom we met in the opening. The second is the psychologist Maruki, brought in by Shujin Academy after the infamous events of Kamoshida occur. Both newcomers are as interesting and nuanced as the rest of the main cast and it’s clear that plenty of effort went into reworking both the general writing and the spoken dialogue to ensure that they fit in with the plot seamlessly.
Both characters even receive their own Confidants (Faith and Councillor respectively), giving the protagonist time to cozy up and learn more about their backstories and motivations. I found their Confidants to be engaging, funny, and well-written, particularly Maruki’s, as his methods of counseling mirror how real-world psychologists and psychiatrists’ sessions run. There’s even a tangible perk for ranking up their Confidants. For each level, Kasumi awards the hero with a 5 HP increase while Maruki provides him with a 5 SP increase. But even ignoring these benefits, the quality of writing alone places them as two of my favorite Confidants, only beaten out by Toranosuke Yoshida.
Just as Kasumi and Maruki are intertwined with the protagonist, they’re also deeply connected with each other. This all comes to a head during the new semester and final Palace, which spirals into an emotional reveal and conclusion that contrasts well with the beautiful aesthetics of both the dungeon itself and the true final boss designs. Without going into spoiler territory, I found the resolution between Kasumi, Maruki, and Joker to be wholly satisfying, if not somewhat predictable.
Receiving some much-needed love is the ever divisive Akechi, as his entire Confidant route has been completely overhauled. As a result, his route is slotted in at a different point in the story to go along with more screen time and importance in the bonus sections of the new endgame content. While my opinion of him is still rather lukewarm, I found myself appreciating his character more due to these improvements.
“Both newcomers are as interesting and nuanced as the rest of the main cast and it’s clear that plenty of effort went into reworking both the general writing and the spoken dialogue to ensure that they fit in with the plot seamlessly.”
The main cast also shares in the glow of additional screen time. Throughout the game, there are new holidays featuring brand new cutscenes and voiced dialogue, new conversations that lead to special team-up moves being unlocked, new portrait artwork giving each character a more dynamic range of expressions, and a third tier of Personae that are unlocked during the new semester (similar to Persona 4 Golden), among other features. Even the last party member, Haru, receives slightly better treatment, though her late introduction to the Phantom Thieves still hurts her overall development.
The infamous scene at the end of the drug trade investigation in Shinjuku has also been altered in the English version of the game. The two gay men, who in the original attempted to sexually harass and assault a teenager (AKA Ryuji), have had their dialogue changed to instead mistakenly believe that he’s into the drag scene because he’s been standing around their club and attempt to help him out. While not perfect in its execution, it’s a far more genuinely funny scene than the one in the original Persona 5 and is much less painful to watch in action. Not to mention, it’s a very natural change that fits much more nicely; if you weren’t aware of the original scene, you would be hard-pressed to notice any difference.
Gameplay gets plenty of fixing as well. Each dungeon has been reworked to incorporate the grappling hook mechanic, which at first feels limited due to its fixed uses. Players will find that the hook not only serves as a far better way for Joker to traverse through each Palace but also lets you access brand new areas where Will Seeds can be found. Each Palace contains three seeds and finding them all unlocks a special accessory that, when equipped, allows that party member to permanently access a certain useful skill.
Then there’s Showtime, the brand new super moves that are unlocked throughout the main story via conversations between two teammates. This allows for two party members, whether in the active or backup party, to team up and unleash a Showtime attack that deals massive damage to the enemy. Though incredibly fun to watch and even more useful, they’re extremely powerful and destroy the balance of each battle as they’re much stronger than All Out Attacks. Luckily, they’re optional, so you can simply ignore them when they crop up.
Boss battles have also been revamped to either provide more of a challenge or to better connect them with their respective Palace. For instance, Kamoshida’s battle now involves two new “slaves” that help him set up his special attack. Madarame’s battle features a new stage, and Kaneshiro’s fight now requires that you toss away an item to avoid his most powerful attack. While small changes, they make each boss feel more fleshed out and memorable from a gameplay perspective. Though, my one complaint is that the connection between the Palace boss and their corresponding story arc could have been stronger and made more personal, resulting in a more compelling conclusion.
The side quest dungeon, Mementos, sees its fair share of upgrades as well. The dungeon portions have been expanded and the randomized floors are often much larger in size, lending itself to more exploration. That said, why couldn’t they change the music sooner? Only the later sections of Mementos play an excellent remix of the main theme. Most of the dungeon is still filled with that unfortunate, bland track that’s stuck on an infinite repeat, which is personally disappointing to me, especially considering all the enhancements to the dungeon design itself. The brightest spot in the host of changes comes in the form of a strange young boy named Jose who appears before your party the first time they venture into Mementos. This is the same boy from the Thieves’ Den.
“While small changes, they make each boss feel more fleshed out and memorable from a gameplay perspective.”
Jose opens up a special shop that sells battle items based on the number of flowers you collect for him within the dungeon. And if you located special stickers scattered around platforms, you can use them to change gameplay properties inside Mementos which can lead to more rewards from battle, higher encounter rates, and so on. It doesn’t hurt that Jose is adorable and his shop UI is literally the most gorgeous thing you will see in the game (considering how polished the UI is in general, this is extremely high praise).
Even the Velvet Room hasn’t been spared from improvements. One of the major new features is called Challenge Battles. By speaking to the wardens, you can fight foes using your current party to aim for the highest score by dealing as much damage as possible. You’ll receive a reward from the wardens based on your score and because you won’t get a game over if you lose, it’s a fun and low-risk challenge.
Another added mechanic is the fusion alarm status, which occurs randomly after defeating enemies in a Palace. When fusing during this time, any resulting Persona will have greatly boosted stats and a chance to pass on new special skills. The downside is that fusion accidents are much more likely, which can result in wildly different and sometimes disappointing results. Despite the clear drawback, it’s a great mechanic that injects some much-needed excitement and vibrance in the otherwise monotonous grind of fusing.
Personae themselves — both with Joker and the other playable characters — have been upgraded with a brand new feature called Skill Traits. In Royal, each Persona possesses a unique trait that grants certain abilities, such as decreased SP cost for skills under a certain element or increased potency for spells that have a single target. These special traits can also be passed on just like regular skills and can also be passed on during fusion, allowing for even more customization options. Their general existence, especially skills that cut down on SP cost, are so useful during dungeon runs that I found myself wondering how I managed to traverse Palaces in vanilla P5.
It’s also worth mentioning here that another major change to Royal sees Morgana cutting back on the number of times they make Joker go to bed early, which has a tremendous effect on how quickly players can rank up their parameters. Even on days in which venturing outside isn’t possible, you can still engage in a multitude of tasks that raise your social stats. For instance, in my own playthrough, by the middle of July, three of my stats were already rank three and the other two were rank four.
More minigames make their debut in Persona 5 Royal and not only are they a welcome break from the intensity of the main story, but they also provide players with gameplay advantages.
The Thieves Den is an example of the former as it lets players use collected P Medals, the currency of this base, in order to purchase artwork for your gallery, soundtracks, and trophies depicting major story events to decorate said base with. You win P Medals either by obtaining awards or by playing the card game Tycoon with your party members. I’ve spent so much time playing Tycoon that it often feels like its own separate (albeit much smaller) game and the enthusiast voice work and expressions from the characters really immerses you in the experience of sitting back and playing a fun round of cards with your friends.
youtube
The last minigame comes from a new district that Ryuji opens up, called Kichijoji. The area itself, bustling with tons of eateries and shops selling unique wares, is the largest explorable location in the game. It’s also home to the Darts and Billiards lounge, which features a darts game reminiscent of the one from the Yakuza series in that it utilizes the motion controls built into the DualShock 4. The darts minigame is fun, fairly easy to master, and best of all, it can be used to rank up a team member’s Baton Pass. The higher the rank, the more benefits that party members will receive whenever Baton Pass is used in a turn, which includes dealing more damage and HP/SP recovery.
Graphics have been noticeably upgraded in Persona 5 Royal as they’ve been optimized for the PS4, resulting in a crisper look to the character models and 3D environments. PS4 Pro owners haven’t been left in the dust either, as there’s a 4K setting to choose from.
There are also several new music tracks in Royal and for the most part, they’re quite enjoyable, particularly the new battle theme. That being said, I wasn’t too impressed with the true boss theme; while a great track on its own, it lacked the weighty presence and punch that a final boss theme should have.
“If you never got around to playing vanilla Persona 5, then Persona 5 Royal is now the perfect starting point.”
If you never got around to playing vanilla Persona 5, then Persona 5 Royal is now the perfect starting point. Filled with a plethora of new story and gameplay content to go along with all of the DLC from the original, this is without a doubt the definitive edition.
However, what if you did sink over 100 hours into the original? Then the question becomes, how much did you enjoy Persona 5? Because make no mistake, even with all the shiny new things included here with Royal, this is still Persona 5. That means you will absolutely be playing through the same 100 hours of the base game since no effort has been made to fix one of the most egregious issues of the original: its pacing. First time players discovering each twist and turn will most decidedly find Persona 5 Royal exciting and fresh. However, veterans may have a difficult time staying engaged the whole way through, even with all the bells and whistles.
Regardless, for an updated re-release, Persona 5 Royal is certainly worth the price of admission for newcomers. And if you enjoyed the original and are eager to jump back into the fray, then there’s certainly more than enough new content and improvements to justify a second purchase.

Game Review: Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (PS4)
If I was to tell you a tale about a young blonde kid, while traveling with a smuggler of sorts and his animal companion, had met up with a princess to thwart an evil empire, you’d probably assume I was talking about Star Wars, and you’d be mostly right in that assumption, but that is still very much the premise to Final Fantasy XII, a game that originally released on the PlayStation 2 way back in 2006 and has since been re-released for the PlayStation 4 as Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.
While the Final Fantasy games haven’t been some of my favorite games I’ve ever played, I have enjoyed several of them, but I wouldn’t consider myself a huge fan. I’ve tried playing through VII but I only get so far and then quit. I wasn’t a huge fan of VIII or IX and despite liking much of what I saw about X, I never did play it myself. I really enjoyed XI; the online MMO and played it for around two years. I also played quite a bit of XIII and XIV, and you can read my review for XV here.
My main issues with the series, up until XI, was that I was never a fan of the wait and see approach to turn based combat, and this was something that XII changed, as it was the first of the main series Final Fantasy games to do so. While I never fully completed it at the time, and frankly, I can’t recall what made me stop playing it, It was easily my favorite of the series and one that always stayed with me, despite the fact I had never fully completed it.
While Final Fantasy XII was released back in 2006, it was a short time after that it was re-released in Japan as ‘Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System’ and this recent remaster is based upon that version of the game, featuring some changes to the job system, whereas the original release didn’t really have defined job classes. This release also features a wealth of other adjustments, improvements, and some fresh new additions that make this game even better than before, and yes, this time I did fully complete it.
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age brings with it a lot of changes to the game while still having a few issues remain, many of which I will talk about near the end of the review. The positive changes that are present are the revamped Job system, a better on-screen map, auto-saving, faster loading times, 7.1 ch sound support, new items, spells, revamped shop inventories and tweaks to the difficulty due to the addition of the job classes. They even moved the secret shop you discover late in the game, it’s still in the same central area, but it has been relocated nonetheless. There is also a Trial mode added that has you face off against 100 floors of enemies while you earn rewards for your group. Those looking to jump right back into the game will notice a new game+ mode added to keep the adventure going.
Lastly, is one of my favorite new additions; Speed Mode. This allows the game to be sped up, making encounters and grinding fly by so fast that you don’t feel almost any of the repetition that comes with EXP grinding or traveling the large sprawling open-world. Thankfully, the music stays at the normal speed, so you don’t have to listen to sped up versions of the fantastic score, which has been completely re-recorded, but you do also have the option of listening to the original music.
Final Fantasy XII is probably one of the least talked about in the series despite Famitsu, Japan’s most widely read and respected game magazine, giving the game a perfect 40/40 score, not to mention being the first PS2 game to ever hit that high on their rating scale, it was still a game that many fans of the series weren’t interested in singing its praises and many just flat out hated it. The game was – is – very different than what had come before and it didn’t follow many of the past conventions of what fans had come to expect from the series. Different doesn’t always mean better, but in this case, at least for myself, it definitely did.
The game takes place in the land of Ivalice, a name that should sound familiar to those who have played Final Fantasy Tactics and the seemingly unrelated RPG, Vagrant Story, as these games all share the same world. The empires of Archadia and Rozarria are at war with one another and Dalmasca, a small kingdom that borders each of these lands is caught in the middle. When Dalmasca is forcefully claimed by Archadia, its princess, Ashe, who is claimed to have taken her own life during this unlawful conquest, secretly went underground and created a resistance movement.
We are also introduced to Basch, a man marked as a traitor to Dalmasca, as well as Vaan and Penelo, two citizens of Dalmasca’s Royal City of Rabanastre. Vaan, while breaking into the Royal Palace, meets up with the Sky Pirates Balthier and Fran, the two best characters in the game and eventually the whole group of freshly made allies then takes the fight to the evil Archadian Empire.
The cast and even parts of the central plot are directly influenced by Star Wars, which is the reason for my intro at the start of this review. You have the young boy who wants nothing more than to fight the Empire, as well as the Princess who shares the same motivation. There are Balthier and Fran who easily fit the mold of Han Solo and Chewbacca and you even have black armor clad Knights and a single green colored bounty hunter than wants revenge upon Balthier.
Before I dive too far into the combat, I’ll need to explain a few mechanics first. Characters can be equipped with Gambits, preset commands that provide instructions on what to do under certain circumstances. You can have characters use certain spells or attacks when a set number of enemies are nearby or use a specific item when under the negative status effect of something like Poison or Petrify. There are thousands of different combinations and how well you set the Gambits to each character and what role they have in the party can make or break your group during difficult encounters. Gambits need to be purchased via shops and you need to be able to use certain attacks or spells, and this is where the License Board comes into play.
Upon selecting your starting job for each character, you’ll need to purchase tiles on the Licence board to unlock the ability to use certain weapons, gear, spells, or boost HP amounts or how fast your Action Bar fills up. You’ll purchase these tiles with LP, which you earn alongside EXP. Where EXP is used to level up and boost central stats like Strength and Speed, LP is used to define your character within their role. When you can eventually select a character’s second job, you’ll be given a second board to unlock more from, so choosing what you want your second job to be may be based upon what you feel is missing from that character’s first job.
The original Final Fantasy XII didn’t have defined job classes and this meant you needed to work your way across a massive license board that had you unlock a bit of everything in order to make your characters fit certain roles within the group. This in some ways made them a Jack of all trades, but master of none. By implementing job classes and changing the License Board to accommodate this, it allows each character to find a role within the group and since that board is then tailored to that specific job, it makes them far more efficient as well. The jobs you have to choose from in The Zodiac Age are Archer, Black Mage, Bushi, Foebreaker, Knight, Machinist, Monk, Red Battlemage, Shikari, Time Battlemage, Uhlan, and White Mage.
As you progress through the game and unlock many of its secrets, you’ll encounter Espers. These are meant to be semi-powerful creatures that you can summon into battle should things get a bit difficult. There are better ones than others but mostly I found them far too weak to really be that great at all. Several of them would die after taking a few hits and their attacks weren’t really anything special. The battles to get them are thrilling, but the prize of then using them in battle just isn’t as rewarding.
Now that I’ve explained the basics of combat, let’s flesh out the structure of how fights go down. Combat is based almost entirely on how you’ve set up your Gambits, and what jobs you have given your teammates. Attacking or being attacked will be indicated by colored lines that flow out to your target, or to you if an enemy is then targeting the character you are currently playing as or the other two members of your group. There are times where you will have a guest character and you can fully control them as well, you just can’t give them Gambits or equip gear or weapons to them, they are generally set up to be helpful but I found them to not be nearly as durable as my fellow party members.
Combat is semi-real time and you’ll automatically attack once your active time bar is filled up. You can set the game to pause while using menu’s or items or have the action continue while you do so. These repeated attacks or actions, like healing or using items, are based upon your Gambits. I usually would roll as Vaan as I tend to get right up in the action, so my healers Penelo and Ashe would chill in the back, along with my range attackers Balthier and Fran, and Basch would be right alongside me on the front lines, depending on who I would have in the group at the time. I would set Vaan to auto attack whatever is nearby and my teammates would then target who I was attacking and the Gambits of casting Protect and Regen would fly out to my teammates once the conditions of the Gambit I gave them were met.
Once I unlocked certain spells and found them in the shops to buy, I found a certain rhythm to how I set up my team. I would set Gambits up in such a way where they would use items efficiently and the better part of my teammates were fairly self-sufficient. You also need to set up Gambits in order of priority so that you are performing the proper actions at the proper times. You don’t want your healers removing poison from a teammate if their health is critical, you want them to use a cure spell and then remove the poison.
As you vanquish foes and explore the various chests and caches around the map, you’ll earn gil and various items to sell. Most of the items that drop from enemies are able to be sold at shops that in turn unlock bundle packs that you can purchase via the Bazaar tab. These are packs of items that are generally cheaper to get than buying them separately. This is also how you’ll unlock the Grimoires; items that increase the chances of rare drops from certain types of enemies. You’ll also need to pay attention during certain weather storms as this will also change the types of enemies that spawn in the zone.
You can earn more items and a wealth of gil through Hunts; rare monsters that you will kill through contacts. At first, these are simple Hunts that you’ll find in Rabanastre (and a few other locations) and eventually through the Hunt Club in the Phon Coast. The Rabanastre Hunts are easy enough and the rewards are fairly low-key, but the Hunt Club is where the real meat of the rewards are but you’ll have to choose what you want to unlock as you won’t be able to earn every single reward. It’s actually designed to be impossible to unlock everything.
FF XII has seen a fairly substantial visual upgrade without the game being entirely remade. It still is very much the same game, it just has far better texturing than before and characters have a more painted look to their faces and characters like Balthier have some incredible detail work done to their hair. There are still some issues of poor outdated textures sneaking their way in and not every NPC seems to have had much improvement given to them. The overall look of the game is smooth, crisp and looks extremely good for a remaster of a game that came out over a decade ago. The way I explain it to friends is this is how I remember the game looking like back then when visuals were what they were back in 2006.
While I absolutely enjoyed my time with Final Fantasy XII, with approaching almost a hundred hours or so in-game, there are still a few issues that not only plague this remaster but that of the original release as well. The camera in small tight spaces isn’t great and even one shopkeeper is out of frame in one awkwardly designed shop. I’ve never been a fan of games that combine the action button with the open a chest button, and this game has that in spades as it’s annoying when you are just not close enough and your action menu pops up instead of that chest in front of you opening. Hunt’s also don’t show up on the regular map and the number of menus you have to navigate to get to them (and subsequently, out of them) is a bit much.
There is also some slow pacing later on in the game that tends to really grind the game to a halt, and characters like Vaan and Penelo can sometimes feel like they don’t really belong there and serve almost no point to the main story. I also didn’t like that you couldn’t bring up your map unless you backed out of every action menu prompt. It’s a minor issue, but one that became a bit of an annoyance with how long the game can get.
Apart from those issues, I was incredibly happy to jump right back into Final Fantasy XII and actually complete it this time. This is a game that has aged remarkably well and is a model example of how you do a remaster. While a few characters and story bits don’t quite hit the highs of everything the game can offer, the overall package of what XII brings to the table is a worthwhile investment of your time. The semi-real time nature of the combat is really enjoyable and the fact that you can speed up the game to bypass that feeling that comes with the RPG grind is one of pure genius on whoever came up with that addition. Final Fantasy XII is easily my favorite of the series, and one of my favorite RPG’s of all time. I still have over a dozen or so Hunts left to do and secrets to explore.
This game isn’t done with me yet.

Bunni continues to play Monster Rancher Advance 2! And generally not enjoy it as much as the first advance, though i can kinda blame it on the fact the first advance trained me to get used to a bunch of differences from regular monster rancher and now thats all gone again :P ANYWAY, ONWARD!
* Its a shame that the training coach system’s revamp makes it so much harder to actually achieve it now. i feel so guilty that my first monster Wrigley didnt quite make it! And like.. fusion isnt even WORTH it anymore! if I fused my high stats Wrigley with another high stats monster then all I get is the base stats version of that fusion, it doesnt carry over AT ALL! And it doesnt even let you carry over Traits like MRA1 did. And retiring a monster just seems to be like another name for deleting them, so I just have Wrigley frozen in the hibernation lab forevermore now. I DONT WANNA LET HIM GO! I do feel guilty for giggling slightly at the fact he’s got that cold minty freshness now XD
* Oh, and the ‘nobody dies anymore’ thing has been rebalanced now. In MRA1 you could just continue going forever with your retired monster, you just couldnt raise its stats anymore. (Tho you could still LOSE stats, so that was kinda awkward) Now you cant do anything with your retired monster except rest and give it items, and then send it to retirement/coaching class. BUT because of that change, I didnt realise Wrigley had as little time as he did, and I didnt manage to do that final tournement in time. :(
* For some reason the ‘SPECIAL’ training has been renamed to ‘Sparring’ training even though its exactly the same thing. And its called Errantry in every other game. I DUNNO LOL Also Loyalty has become Reliance, and now the E rank tournement has returned from Monster Rancher 2. (This is part of why its harder to reach teacher rank now)
* A funny glitch that may have possibly fucked up my ability to complete the main story, I HONESTLY DON’T KNOW?? Okay, so.. in MRA1 there was an annoying thing where you could still ‘use’ unuseable items, and they’d be gone forever with no effect to your monster. I lost 5000 gold due to this, the badly translated item descriptions meant I didnt even know that the Silver Cup passively reduces stress when you keep it in your inventory... In MRA2 you now actually get a ‘this is unuseable’ message when you select them! BUT... there’s one random specific circumstance where the game doesnt check for this. Sometimes when your monster is upset with a choice you’re making, it’ll say ‘[Name] would rather [suggested action]’. This time it SOMEHOW came out with ‘Wrigley would rather eat [magic amulet key item]’?? And I was just mashing thru the text and didnt realise it until I’d already hit yes! I really hope this doesnt come back to bite me in the ass later...
* Oh and there’s now a cool rival guy character! I’ve gained three rivals so far but he’s the most actually a rival. Can I just say the plot works a LOT better with actual other monster trainers as characters?? Seriously. THANKE! Why on earth was I even fighting in these tournements last time, lol... Anyway, here’s Mr Bishie Mysterious Jerk Rival:
* There’s also another rival who has more of a story role.. or uhh.. maybe I’m not able to get bishie man story scenes anymore cos i lost the key item, lol Anyway, he’s a younger cutie patoot rival who’s actually on your level as another rookie, rather than being an asshole adult randomly picking on kids. (No seriously, bishie man is introduced as a dude who’s ATTACKING OTHER RANCHES and then he’s just instantly forgiven??) lil rival boy is a bit competitive and grumpy but its just cos he (understandably) feels like you’re cheating by having the legendary holly as your mentor. But then when you battle him he realises youre actually a worthy rival and then you become Kinda Friends I Guess? I like him!
* Also your third rival is GRANDPA Seriously, you literally just fuckin.. find a wild grandpa starving in the cold and take him in. And he says he’s gonna repay you by giving his monsters as free tutors for a certain period of time, but for the life of me I COULD NOT FIND any way to unlock them in the tutor screen! But this was back when I was first learning all these new systems to maybe I just messed up somewhere? Anyway, after a certain amount of time he’s all ‘I’m proud of you, you dont need me anymore, i’m gonna go join the tourneys too cos you inspired me to get back out of retirement’. And its kinda sad that he leaves :( I WILL MAKE U MO PROUD, MYSTERY FOREST GRANDPA I STILL DONT KNOW WHERE DE FUCK U CAME FROM
(Clarification: he is not saying this about you but about the jerkass bandit you just fought off.)
(This is the jerkass bandit you just fought off)
(It is TOTALLY unfair how the game throws you immediately into a battle with him as a tutorial to the exploration system! I literally got this as the first thing with my new monster after Wrigley, I just got lucky enough with the RNG that all his attacks missed and I somehow survived!)
* Random fun highlight of Wrigley’s short career: winning an all bunnies league.
* I really don’t like the random addition they made of a ‘counter system’, though. Apparantly this was an addition made in Monster Rancher 4 for the PS2? It wasnt very liked there either, but this is an absolutely TERRIBLE port of it into a modified game engine that was never designed to include it. In the PS2 game each move is assigned to the four face buttons, and you press one of those to choose which move to counter. Its still not very good cos you only have a 1 in 4 chance of it working, and the AI is completely random anyway so it’s only predictable in 2 player mode. but they somehow made it EVEN WORSE in this version, cos the moves ARENT mapped to buttons yet you still have to input a button combination with a 1 in 4 chance! You have to awkwardly try and hit B and one of the directional buttons simultaneously, and there’s no way to know which random direction the AI picked, and just... GAHHH The only good thing is that you can still play the game perfectly fine without ever using it, and the AI is equally likely to fuck up. I only saw a successful AI counter ONCE after raising three monsters! Anyway, look at this dumbass who failed a counter and smacked himself in the head for 220 damage as soon as the fight started.
* My second monster was kinda awesome, i lucked out and got a rare monster from random tablet regeneration! Its the only Antlan type that I actually like, cos its unique colouration makes it look more like a giant skull thingie. Woo!
* His name was Heartbreak! He didnt have many spectacular adventures along his way, just managing to become a coach for future generations. I mean, he didnt break my heart, so it turned out better than expected XD I’m sorry i didnt have faith in you, lil buddy! THIS GAME IS STILL REALLY DAMN HARD THO
* i haaaaaaate the changes to the coaching system I HAAAAAAAAATE dear fuckin GODDDDDD now you have to keep paying a salary every half a year or you lose your coaches forever all your memories of your past monsters dont have enough for one payment and they NEVER COME BACK T_________T I’ve been savescumming a lot more in this version of the game, there’s a lot of bullshit chances to lose everything... And like.. they kinda wanted to make a good change by letting you hire governement-funded coaches if you cant train your own. but their prices are so ludicrously high and the most powerful one just has 300 in two stats and 600 in one. Your own monsters are always gonna be better than that, and you’d need to raise a few monsters to even get enough money anyway! So yeah just.. fuck this system, seriously, dear god. I still had complaints about it last time, but i was more forgiving cos it was a new change to the formula and all, but this is just making it worse in every possible way...
* Its also very annoying that we have a lot more items in the game but all their descriptions are badly translated. I have NO CLUE what the whole second page is about! ‘Its a cake’, ‘its a candy’, ‘its a meat dish’. Even stuff that had descriptions last time doesnt! You’d never know that ‘smoked newt’ lowers your monster’s ‘spoiled’ status! I mean, at least you could kinda assume that the cake raises it, if you’re getting too strict? I think? Cos I thought maybe the cake is for raising weight like the diet pills are for lowering it, but I can never get it to actually do that. the weight system is so unintuitively awkward! Any choice you make will change it wildly while your monster is a baby, and then as soon as they hit maturity its nigh impossible to change it! And its really hard to keep pushing it back and forth to keep the middle for whenever the maturity flag pops up, cos its not even set to happen on their birthday or anything. And being fat or thin causes gigantic debuffs because WHY NOT! Weirdly enough the raising style doesnt seem to do that anymore, its just like the chance of them running away, and a (never actually explained) small chance of lowering their overall lifespan every time you drift away from the medium.
* But anyway, I AM glad that now your strict/spoiled meter actually does exist in the menu again! It was definately still actually a part of the mechanics in MRA1, you’d still get stress and disobedience and stuff and just not be able to know when you were getting close to it. But MAN is it unforgiving this time... its always been the most difficult thing to manage but seriously... but seriously I am glad its at least in the menu...
* HOWEVER... i have no idea what the personalities do!! There’s now a thing on the menu above the spoilt/strict menu that says stuff like ‘hot headed’ or ‘medium’. And it never seems to change throughout their whole lifespan, so it seems to be like a personality or nature value? Does it actually affec anything? is it like pokemon and it means its easier to train a certain stat?
* Also there’s now the ability to get ill and go to the doctor. Its mostly pointless as its just like.. okay now you get TWO potential punishments for being too strict- monster can run away OR get sick. And running away just means you have to wait a few months and lose training time til they return, but instead sickness is like a debuff that halves your gains in a certain training. Its surprisingly in-depth, they give you a full diagonosis of a random illness and some made up medicines you need to take to fix it.
* ...do you really get anemia from being malnourished? i thought it was genetic only?
* And then ALAS I didnt manage to get any screenshots of my third monster while I was actually training her. I coulda sworn I did?? But it seems I forgot, so have a pic of her as a training coach
(for some reason special monsters get an ugly red background in status screens)
* She was actually surprisingly useful as my designated Explorer monster! It just sucks that you have to rank up in combat tourneys to unlock exploration areas, and you have to do it AGAIN every time you get a new monster. I didnt realise this so i trained her with an exploration-focused moveset and had to blunder thru the tourneys like a total mess. Errantry/Special/Sparring is now also based around combat stats, your chance of gaining a skill is greatly reduced if your stats are lower than the tutor, even if you win the fight! And if you dont, its fuckin impossibleeeee! So I couldnt even gain more skills to fight the skill tutor to gain more skills, GAH! Am I supposed to assign my own tutors here who have terrible stats?? But then the stat gains I get would be low too! So yeah, an intelligence based monster and I never managed to get a single intelligence skill in her entire lifespan. ALAS!
* Oh and Exploration is also REALLY WAY TOO HARD AND UNBALANCED AND HARD Well I mean.. its not??? But it is??? Its actually got much smaller stat requirements than in MR on PS1, and the chance of getting nothing when you inspect a ruin is much lower. But the odds of the MOST HATED STUPID MECHANIC are way higher, and it seems that there isnt ANY stat that affects it, its totally random with no way to avoid! See, sometimes randomly when you’re exploring you can get lost. this ends the exploration immediately and you lose every item you’d collected. COMPLETELY AT RANDOM. NO WAY TO AVOID. keeps fuckin happening at the end of my 500 HP long 50 items gathered super sessions with super Rina the kitty of joy and hugs so I just ended up savescumming every time it happened, its too bullshit to be allowed to exist! Rina earned around 30000 or so Gold during her lifespan, and I was able to get the barn upgrade to keep bigger mons. And she also found the item that unlocks Monol monsters. Yay!
* So yeah thats the end of my gameplay today, and I didnt really enjoy it as much as the last one. The weird new gameplay decisions are a part of it, but also because of just HOW MANY monsters are locked behind various sidequests, and how you have no clue how to get half of them. Last time they were all just tournements you had to beat, now there’s bullshit like raising five monsters of specific species to master rank and sending them to certain exploration areas to find orbs... And like, with the inability to carry over traits and stuff, and the smaller amount of fusions, you cant even make a particularly customized monster out of the ones you can start with. So its just les fun to wait to open up all the options. And there doesnt feel like much incentive to even do it anyway, its not like most of them were locked away because theyre stronger. There’s loads of stuff that was a starter monster last time and there’s just no reason you have to save up a titanic amount of 20000 just to get the weird rhino motorcycle i got by typing my own name in the game last time... But ehh, I might play again anyway? I dunno. Later. Much later.
* BUT I STILL LOVE MY SWEET MONSTER FRIENDOS love and hugs list of all the bebs: Jade the Golem/Lesione, Carole the Momo/Zan, Kyubi the Zan/Mocchi, Dandelion the special albino Lesione, and Diva the special albino Dragon and now Wrigley the Hare/Lesione, Heartbreak the special albino/halloween variant Antlan, and Rina the special albino Mew that looks more like nidorina hence the name ...I’m only just realizing that I tend to like the albino variants the best. I guess maybe its cos they look more normal and dont tend to have overpowered stats or anything. Except the albino dragon which was the strongest one in the first game, hence why I picked it when I just gave up and wanted to brute force my way to the ending... ANYWAY THEY ARE ALL CUTE AND YOU WILL APPRECIATE THEM
* ok bunni go play different games now
* also bunni go try and learn how to draw these monsters, yo

Answering mail Qs from Titans fans
Answering mail Qs from Titans fans
Sylvester Williams is not getting much love. I have several emails of disappointment. The Titans staff evaluated him and believe he can clog the middle of the defense. The only stats that I’ve ever found indicative of a nose tackle’s play are rushes up the middle. The best nose tackles don’t have gaudy tackle stats or many sacks. The Titans were ranked 29th against runs up the middle and Jon Robinson added someone to help. I believe that Casey is as safe as can be. The rest of the defensive line will be quite fluid this summer. Let’s see how things shake out and give Williams a chance here. They added him for a reason, let’s wait and see.
Which pick would the Titans trade to get second rounders like last year?
I don’t think Robinson is “dying” to get second round picks. I believe he said it would be nice to have and…that means nothing. Surely it would be nice to have a pick in each round.
The Titans didn’t re-sign much of their depth free agents after the season. They need the picks. I don’t envision some crafty trade up scenario. As such, it would have to be a trade down from the first round. I don’t think he should trade the fifth pick in the draft. I’ve written about it a few times. They have a unique opportunity to get a best of the best talent. That opportunity may not come along again for many years. Trading the 18th pick seems more likely for a trade down scenario.

Can you shed some light on what happens at the draft?
No, sorry I can’t. I’ve only sat in the “cheap seats.” I’ve never been in a “war room.” There’s tons of stories in books and even a Hollywood movie about draft war rooms. I’ve never been a part of it.
Jim Wyatt wrote Jim: Hey Jay. At the draft, teams have representatives there to take a call from Nashville, where they’ll be informed of the pick. Then the Titans rep at the draft will turn the card in before it is announced on TV. There is sometimes a backlog. Teams know the picks early, before they’re on TV. I was at the draft in Chicago last year, and I anticipate being in Philadelphia next month. As far as me being in the war room, I’ve never been in there on draft day, but I’ve heard some pretty good stories over the years
From that, it seems the Titans prefer a headquarters at the team facility and simply have representatives at the draft.
Teams are generally tight-lipped about this and that’s why I recommend picking up a couple of books to read about it. After their careers, then they seem to be forthcoming.
Davis or Williams?
Their history of developing wide receivers is poor. I am not rooting for them to draft a wide receiver in the first round. I’m much more comfortable with wide receivers being selected in later rounds. Had to pick- Williams, despite how those with the same name have struggled in the NFL.
Will the Titans select…a dozen local players?
Derek Barnett and Zach Cunningham are outstanding players. The Titans could select them, sure. The Titans could also use both of them right away at their respective positions.
Besides those two, the readers are putting me in a bad spot here. It seems several adore some local player that either isn’t ranked by scouting databases or is ranked poorly. I don’t mean to “hurt your feelings” here. The Titans will not select anyone that isn’t rated by a major site or service. These sites rate more than 1000 players. Again, if your favorite player is not amongst the top 1000, then no he won’t be drafted by the Titans.
The Titans do have a history of signing lesser ranked players and local players as undrafted free agents. You could shift your hope to these players making the team via this route.
All in all, I think some of you are going to have a tough summer. Sorry about that. It’s just “your boy” is probably not good enough for the NFL. Google these prospects and see if they are ranked- try to gauge your hope from there.
There are other good “local” prospects, but they haven’t been suggested to me lately.
Will the Titans select a quarterback?
I think Alex Tanney will be replaced by another “young gun.” In general, only a few quarterbacks are selected in the final two rounds. There isn’t a big rush to land them. These types are invited to camp as undrafted free agents.
Can’t the Titans sign Keenan Reynolds off the Ravens practice squad?
Ahh there he is. Titans fans love this guy. I see him signed to the Ravens as a future’s player. Last season, he was playing wide receiver (not quarterback) on their practice squad. During the offseason, there is no practice squad. Teams can not sign and promote a player from another team’s practice squad, since the squad doesn’t exist.
If Jon Robinson wanted Reynolds as the third string quarterback, he would have to trade for him. It shouldn’t take much in trade. He probably could trade a 7th round pick and get him or some backup player.
Quite candidly, I don’t think this is a particularly good year for quarterbacks in the draft. I’m surprised to be writing this, but I wouldn’t mind such a trade at all. I think Reynolds is better than any 7th round quarterback the Titans could select and better than any UDFA they could sign.
Don’t forget the Ravens here too. They may love Reynolds as much as you all do. They may be inclined to keep him and watch him develop.
What does your fantasy football background tell you about the Titans? Who is probably overrated?
Rishard Matthews, definitely. Matthews yardage totals during his career are 151, 448, 135, 662, and then 945. Prior to his time with the Titans, he was not a top wide receiver. He never even had 50 catches in a season before joining the Titans.
I think he is a perfect fit. A zillion years ago, Wes Welker was signed from Miami and was a perfect fit for the Patriots. I think there’s some similarity there. Matthews makes all the catches he must. The coaches seem to think highly of him. Marcus Mariota seems to have developed a nice rapport with him. Everything has fit in oh so well.
Fantasy football is about stats and using them to make predictions. In this light, Matthews doesn’t necessarily look like a strong player. There have been dozens of wide receivers that take longer to develop than just one training camp. There have been dozens that improve their play dramatically when they land with a new team. I am a fan of Rishard’s and think the future is bright for him. This is solely a question about using stats as a predictor.
Will the Titans bring back Dorial Green-Beckham now? Or trade for Jordan Matthews?
My first thought is how curious it has been that fans have focused largely on the Jets, Eagles, and Patriots this offseason. The Titans can add available players from the other 31 teams. There’s been an odd focus on three teams.
My guess is the Titans “took their shot” with DGB and have moved on. If he is cut, I don’t think they will jump at the chance to bring him back.
I like Jordan Matthews. The rumors have him available for a third round draft pick. I think Matthews is better than any draft prospect wide receiver available in the third. As such, I would make that deal.
The problem here, and our offseason theme, is that the Titans are a run first run often offense and fans want to add a plethora of wide receivers to the team. They will add one or two, that’s all. They will need to add several wideouts to have enough bodies to make it through camp. They are needed for drills and to get everyone practicing. When we come back around to the 53 man roster, they will have only added one or two.
Who is available from last summer that you would like the Titans to bring back?
Not many, not many. I loved Andrew Turzilli’s size and speed. I’d like to see him added. Most of all I would have to say Ben Roberts. He made the team. If you look at the timeline of cuts, he made the Titans first roster, then was replaced. It’s odd that he wasn’t added to the practice squad. Players cut “last minute” are usually added.
He played much of the second half in last season’s preseason games. The Titans had roughly a dozen wide receivers in camp and many didn’t get time in the preseason games. It was odd to not see everyone get a few minutes in these games. Roberts seemed to have locked down one spot.
I have been intrigued with his baseball background and what I read of his demeanor and professionalism. He was slow, but with the ball in the air, Roberts could “fly.” That’s often how outfielders are. I wanted to see that in games, but he didn’t get many passes thrown his way last summer. I imagine those sudden “wheels” would make him difficult to cover. As an outfielder, he has to have excellent ability to track a deep ball. I saw him block plenty and he blocked well last preseason. Roberts would definitely be my answer here.
Andrews was our feature back two years ago and no one wants him?
Yeah that’s about right. Dexter McCluster, David Cobb, and Bishop Sankey haven’t lit up the NFL since they left the team either.
Andrews is unique. I am a huge fan of his. I expect he will land somewhere and be greatly appreciated by his new team. As I’ve written before, he is about “custom-made” for Bill Belichick who appreciates multi-dimensional players. Andrews was a former stud quarterback- not just some quarterback, but two state championships and Mr. Kentucky. Andrews was the Titans backup runningback, backup fullback, backup long snapper, and backup return man. He has played as the running back, as the fullback, lined out wide, and in the slot. He threw a nice pass to Marcus Mariota in one game.
Andrews had incredible yardage stats in college. He was an excellent college running back. He’s only played behind bad offensive lines in the NFL. He got a few carries behind the Titans revamped line and did well those few times. We’ve never really seen Andrews run behind a good line.
In today’s NFL, running backs are a “dime a dozen.” He’ll sign somewhere. Just give it time.
Do you think it’s odd that the Titans add all of these special teams players after firing their coach last year?
In that light, yes, absolutely. I don’t think it’s that simple though. I imagine Mike Mularkey expected more of the prior coach than he delivered. The special teams are rarely written about in the press, so we are largely in the dark here. It was said that he was Mularkey’s friend, so I’m sure the decision wasnt made lightly.
I think that’s everyone. Thanks for writing in.
