Writing on my resume "proficient in MS Word" while also trying not to disturb the formatting at all because I have no idea how to reproduce it without sacrificing a baby to its dark magic.

Reminder not to take this too serious. It’s a silly little tumblr poll, be kind to each other and have a good time.

i have a weirdly specific question
so back in ye olde days of 2008 i would get to play on my dad's macbook and the version of ms word that was on it had a feature where your document could be like a little notebook with tabs. i found this screenshot on the internet of it.
i want a writing program that can do something like that but i do not use a mac and it is not 2008 anymore. does anyone know of a program that does something similar? ideally free?
& if u dont could u rb this for visibility lol

I hate the fact that in MS Word, if you accidentally mistype something, you can completely fuck up the settings, and it's hard AF to figure out what the hell you did and how the hell to undo it.

MS Word needs to stop trying to condemn me for my word choices. sometimes words have more than one meaning. I chose the word for its slang definition, not its medical definition.

We discovered that Microsoft Word will now automatically generate Alt Text (alternative text) descriptions of the images you insert into your documents after it described an Ethiopic scroll as a roll of toilet paper. Clearly the robots have some training to do on cultural heritage materials.

Everywhere you turn lately it seems like tech companies are adding some kind of AI feature to their software. Sometimes these updates are incredibly useful. Other times… not so much.

word's conciseness suggestions are the bane of my existence. like, no, i do not want to change the phrase 'over and over again' to 'repeatedly,' those are different things entirely.

My life changed so much for the better when I discovered you can actually turn off the red-underlining spellcheck and the green-underlining grammar checker in Microsoft Word.
The amount of time I used to spend manually right-clicking underlined words and going "Add to dictionary" or "Ignore rule", oh my god. (Especially given that Word's judgement for what apparently constitutes incorrect grammar is horrendously oversensitive.)
But it turns out it's possible to just! Turn it off! And then you'll never see those ugly red and green squiggly lines ever again! You can type in peace and leave it up to yourself to check for spelling or grammar issues rather than having Word throw danger signals at you every four sentences.

Microsoft Word is making my Grinch fics appropriately red and green. It hates "Whos" so much, begging me to add an apostrophe or an e.
However, it not only recognizes "Grinch" as a word but autocorrects me if I forget to capitalize it. So we now know whose side MS Word is on.

Dear anyone who hates Aptos...
I have an easy fix for you that doesn't involve fighting with the back ends of MS Word's settings.
In Word, open the design tab, click font, and then select Office 2013-2022 from the drop-down menu: this changes your entire document fonts (including headings) into the previous default formatting.
This works on pre-existing documents too.
Hope this helps!
PS. In the 'design' tab, you can select the 2013-2022 default as a format - this doesn't change font: just layout and colours :)
PPS. THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO DON'T KNOW ABOUT AUTOMATIC REFERENCING IN WORD TERRIFIES ME. You don't have to type out APA references, just use the tool in word, it makes the reference list for you. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/create-a-bibliography-citations-and-references-17686589-4824-4940-9c69-342c289fa2a5
It's not as good as the likes of EndNote or Zotero but it's decent enough to save your grade in a high school project.

Powerpoint and Word are partners, lovers even. Excel is some kind of nerd that gets shoved into a locker. Access and Publisher are the high end couple barely anyone dares to talk to. And Outlook is.. kind of a whore.
