For Absolute Superman, who would you want to see be this Superman’s main love interest if he has one at all?

Not Lois, Lana, or Wonder Woman. Especially not Lois or Wonder Woman. Clois is already the focus of MAWS, Superman & Lois, and presumably Gunn's upcoming reboot. We do not need another Elseworld Superman story that reaffirms the two are soulmates. Particularly not one that makes a big deal of taking away all the comforts Superman usually gets! Taking away Ma & Pa, Smallville, and the Fortress but giving Absolute Superman his soulmate strikes me as a complete waste of the concept. For this Earth, the two of them need to not be endgame, frankly I'd prefer if Lois was actually his enemy. With Wonder Woman I'm simply bored of that being the #2 go-to and would rather have Maxima.

I want Aaron to pair Kal with someone we haven't seen thoroughly explored at this point, ideally someone that the regular Superman would never get with. Who would have thought that Spider-Man and Kitty Pryde would make a great couple for instance? Couldn't work in 616 but Bendis paired the two in 1610 and people loved it! Outside of MJ she was easily the most popular love interest. Kitty had a different dynamic with Peter than what we see with the 616 pairings Peter and Gwen or Peter and Black Cat, and I want something like that for Absolute Superman. I know who I would pick:

They were going to pair Jon and Jenny together for 5G and frankly that is such a brilliant idea that I want to see it used here in the AU. Jenny has a weird history with "Superman" via an expy of him called the High, who in a roundabout way inspired the creation of the Authority. She clearly had feelings for him, which makes it plausible that she would be attracted to the genuine article. Plus Jenny is similar to Lois! Look at her getting ready to smoke a cig while scoffing at Superman's optimism, how is that any different from Kidder Lois' first interview with Reeve Superman? Jenny is a cynical idealist at heart, just like Lois, but the difference is she's a powerhouse on par with Supes in her own right.

If Absolute Superman is more raw and angry, more willing to physically fight the powers-that-be, what happens when he gets involved with someone who has power and also is pissed off? Instead of Lois telling him calm down, we get Jenny going "fuck yeah mate, let's smack some gits upside the head." Imagine if we didn't get an Absolute Justice League but an Absolute Authority instead? I'd love it if each Absolute Trinity member formed their own team rather than joining together as expected. Superman forms the Authority, Batman the Outsiders, Wonder Woman forms Shadowpact - that would be exciting!

Simply put, with Absolute Superman I want to end every issue unsure of what happens next and that's why I don't want to see the same relationships we've already seen explored done so here yet again. Jenny offers that, but there are plenty of other options. Up to Aaron if he actually chooses to purse one.

On the (continued) topic of Spidey in DC, if I can be a bit crass with the subject matter... how many DC heroines (or DC villainesses, if you want to dip your toes in that puddle) do you think would find Peter/Spidey genuinely attractive as a person, even if they might not actually get to see his face? Not to step on Gwen or MJ's toes or anything but I feel like a lot of DC ladies would see that prime real estate and want in on that property, iykwim.

I just feel like there'd be, on more than one occasion, moments where a few random lady members of the League would absolutely play a few rounds of FMK if bored enough, Spider-Man would be among the choices, and it's usually F or M, but almost never K for the webslinger.

Honestly Spider-Man's like a brother to me, and a kid brother at that (...maybe because he's my younger brother's favorite superhero...), so beyond MJ (and to a much lesser extent Deadpool), I never really 'got' the concept of Spidey as the Marvel Comics Community Bicycle. He talks too much, and when he's put next to other heroes, it very quickly becomes "talks too much because he's self-conscious," so like, he's relatable to me, absolutely, but he's never really been that much of a romantic lead in my head. He's too much of the narrative's chew toy to be that, so like... you do have some overlap with Jimmy Olsen in that respect.

That being said, if I had to pick like... potential DC characters that would be into him, I'd say definitely Misa, my deep-cut fave from the 90's Superman comics that everyone has forgotten about. She has a fun tech-hippie look. She's obnoxious, she likes to cause problems on purpose--but deep down she's actually surprisingly well-meaning and very supportive of other characters going through really sloppy points in their own character arcs. She can be delightful fun in that "Aren't you tired of being nice? Don't you just want to go apeshit?" sense that I think would be a good contrast to Spidey. On top of that, they both have a passion for gadgetry! I'd love to see her tinker with his spider-suit capabilities! This, again, is Spidey moving into Jimmy Olsen's territory, because Misa was also a romantic interest for Jimmy Olsen for a handful of issues.

Again, I'd also like to see Spidey get sucked into the Forever People polycule. There's no escape. Just osmose him in.

I should probably try and veer this to more recognizable names, but I could also see 20-something Spider-Man getting with a Green Lantern. Either Kyle Rayner or Jessica Cruz. The mainstream Justice League I largely see perceiving Spider-Man as pretty much a kid. Zatanna could be a fun option, and also versatile depending on like, what level-of-maturity Spidey you want to work with.

OHH DONNA TROY OR CASSANDRA CAIN. WOMEN WHO WILL ELBOW-DROP HIM AND HE'LL THANK THEM FOR IT. Guy who goes "Hiiiii" and girl who goes "Bruh" power couples.

Blonde Twink stick-in-the-mud Brainiac-5 is an option, too. Someone to be geeky with but who is also kind of a bitch to offset your obnoxiousness. (Give him back his looong haaaaair).

Also I don't know if this would be shippy, but I would be interested in seeing him interact with Raven. Just the combination of Hope/Despair/Crushing Responsibility/Empathy would be very interesting to watch.

Which of your favourite books got bad adaptations? Do you feel Rwrb was a decent adaptation? How do you feel about the casting? What about a sequel? Hope it’s still honesty hour!

It's always honesty hour! A follow-up to this ask.

Answering the middle question first because I'm filled with chaos: I do think the RWRB film was overall a good adaption! There were parts of the book I missed desperately (June obviously, but also Liam and Raf my beloveds) and things about it that I would have preferred to be different, but I have criticisms of the book too which don't stop me loving it, and overall I really enjoyed the film. I thought the casting was fantastic, very impressed with TZP's ability to bring 'chaotic little shit' energy without actually being the short king of the book 🤣 and Nick did an excellent job with Henry. There's a lot going on in the book, and I do think streamlining it for a film was a smart move, even if it meant we lost some amazing stuff.

Regarding a sequel... I'd rather no sequel than a bad sequel, and while I trust Casey with their characters, approaching something film-first does wind up with a different structure to a novel that's turned into a film, the third-act misunderstandings that I hate, etc. I'd rather they wrote another book that could then get adapted, but I'm aware that's the most unlikely approach to be taken lol. Also, based on some of the reactions to Henry's bonus chapter, people get very attached to their post-canon headcanons and I feel like a sequel runs the risk of being divisive. Like, I want a sequel because I want more of Alex and Henry, but I would not enjoy all the Discourse™️ it would inspire.

Favourite books with bad adaptions! I'm still bitter over The Lovely Bones a decade and a half later, though not as much as My Sister's Keeper lol. The Dark Tower can get in the fucking bin. Sometimes I think about how desperately teenage MJ wanted an Artemis Fowl adaption and then we got... that. 11.22.63 was actually a decent miniseries but I hated it as an adaption of one of my favourite Stephen King books. I wanted to like Death on the Nile but holy FUCK. Fucking... Justice League I almost walked out of the cinema. There are probably more that are fully blocked from my memory lmao.

Something that interests me to no end is who people see when they think of certain characters

If I think Batman, I see Christian Bale’s Batman or Batman from Justice League Unlimited. Catwoman is Halle Berry. Robin is from the Teen Titans show, but Nightwing is from Young Justice

Spider-Man is Andrew Garfield, but MJ is Zendaya and Harry Osborn is James Franco

Uh, hi, I guess... I'm the long request anon btw... Umm... I just really have another crazy wanting to add to the request if you're ok...? (ONLY IF YOU'RE OKAY!!!) so...

Reader is a half-banshee, and that she could not predict dead. This is due to the blood she inherited from her mother side, and for some reasons her mother never inherit any of it but reader does. Reader found out her identity as knew day she went to visited her mother and stepfather and stepsister around 17 (the age she moves out) and a wolf that's about dying told reader about it and the only reason why they said, it's because they want someone to listen to them just once. Afterwards, reader buried the wolf and look through everything she could while handling her ability.

Reader cannot predict deads, but she indeed has a few little tricks: Reader can blend in the shadows and hide her presence and whoever within her side in 7 km as well, more than the 7, no. Her another ability is to control rain and wind, but reader rarely does so since it never occurs to her, and that she could only stop it for around 5 minutes then none. Reader only uses it when she doesn't want to get cold, or have her shoes soaked in water. Unlike most banshees, reader rarely cries since she's very much in good control of her emotions, but it can be too hard sometimes and it is the only time reader allows herself to be waved. Most of it would be sudden mood swings, battling with her inner monster, insomnia. She misses Jason very much each time it happens.

Would reader tells Jason she's half-banshee? Yes. Since he'd told her as well he's Red Hood and that only makes it fair. Jason's capable of taking care reader when she's waved, he hold her in both arms while reading those children storybooks they had around as it reminds her that she could never read those but now she can and Jason's voice soothes her. He makes sure to prepare food and if possible he would just gone disappearing to accompany reader and wouldn't give a fuck to Bruce or whoever and be so obliged for no reason (Damian: you are late, Todd. - Jason: Sorry. Be sure around next time. Bruce & the rest of batfam and Peter, MJ & Ned who's just happened to be on scene: ... - Alfred: A-hem. - Everyone's back to doing their stuffs while Jason gives Alfred a thumb and he returns it) (Alfred would know if any batboys or batgirls has a relationship, I just think he would and it makes sense) (And Jason would let him knows, he's his grandpa)

On ways to Wayne Manor to make sure her husband is alright, reader would try to fight back her tears even though Roy told her that Jason's fine. But she's still not okay, and tears makes her depressed the worst and that she needs to stay strong for Jason. So... reader's on the rage of wanting to throw anything and there's others who knows Jason more than her keeps on stopping her (the batfam mostly Damian while MJ literally tries not to murder him with Peter and Ned holding her back saying it's for reader) and that only kills her and... Reader starts wailing. And all of the batfam and their guests stops everything, as they now have reader who suddenly sobbing with Damian who looks with them with "I did not do anything" before reader criticize them and cry more harder when she's done (reader just keeps on sobbing and I could see Alfred disapprove glances and declare that he will await an explanation before crouching down to his knees and begins to comfort reader)

Reader keeps on sobbing while Alfred wipes off her tears and asks Duke or Cass to fetch Jason and Roy, which they quickly do so and reader is rather calm down at this point, with Alfred promising and that he welcoming her, she can't help but calm down. At this point, the entire Justice League, Avengers & Titans all presented. Tony and Pepper immediately rushes to reader's side while she called them dad and mom and began to cry again (yeah, the tiredness of being a banshee) as she isn't sure she's allowed and under Alfred's glance, Tony quickly reassured reader it's nothing and that Pepper beam saying that it's her honour. Reader's still sobbing quietly.

"Y/N?"

Reader's look up when her name's whispered by that only person she desperate to see the most. Reader cries again as she rueshes into Jason's arms and he keeps on apologizing as reader's keep shaking her bead... AND...

Why do you think DC wanted to boot PKJ off Action Comics ?

Well I was working on a NYCC 2023 post, and unfortunately the damn thing suddenly deleted itself. Left me totally drained seeing all that hard work gone, so I'm going to keep it short this go around.

Aaron is a very similar writer to PKJ in both tone and style. If he were taking over for the long term I'd be cautiously optimistic - but he's only doing three issues. Doesn't matter if he sucks or is great, he'll be gone in a blink of the eye. Leaves me with no strong feelings regarding him.

Pitch sounds cool, it's the Multiverse Bizarro that Tomasi used. It will be darker in tone and Bizarro has a new power seemingly. Waid consulted and Aaron says he "passed the Waid test". Shows how influential that Waid has become that he's being brought in to help the other Superman writers. Once an editor always an editor. Timms on art is fine, he's not an artist I have strong feelings for but I liked his work on Son of Kal-El and his brief Superman run with PKJ. Given Bizarro was on the cover of Williamson's first issue but is showing up here, I wonder if this is just Williamson farming out a story to Aaron that he didn't have time for himself anymore.

After Aaron, Williamson takes over for "House of Brainiac" which is the big Superman crossover story. Brainiac wants to find his Queen and is unleashing his Bottled City of Czarnia to get her. Supes, the Superfamily, Lex, and Lobo team up to stop him. Great pitch - but Williamson writing another event by himself is a huge red flag. He's 0/2 on events thus far and my concerns had previously been soothed by the assumption that PKJ would help him this time, which sadly is not the case. If it's shit at least we get to see Sandoval draw the hell out of the fight scenes.

Next we will get at least two more creative teams, one of whom is almost certainly Waid and Henry doing the Phantom Zone/Aethyr storyline. Not happy to see Waid claim that story, his Silver Age sensibilities are not going to live up to what PKJ was building to. Huge disappointment at this chance to let PKJ flesh out the Phantom Zone like he did Warworld pass by. After Waid we have one more team, and if Tom King isn't shooting his shot by now he will never get on a Superbook. Turning Action into an anthology book feels like a last minute decision made to buy time while they try and get a permanent creative team, which I do think has a chance of being King.

As mentioned in other posts, PKJ claims he will still be writing Superman and I believe that means he's been tapped to write the Justice League relaunch. He was saying on Twitter that we would get to see his Warworld plot threads such as Kryl-Ux unfold elsewhere, and also he would touch on the backstory of the events we saw in the FS House of El one shot. Sounds exciting to me, the kind of story actually worth bringing JL back.

Oh and starting with issue 10, Williamson is doing a Superman arc that is a Western, expands on Moonlight's backstory, and brings in Terra-Man. Sign me the hell up for that! Redondo seems to have permanently moved to Superman from Nightwing which means I'm probably dropping Nightwing soon.

For other DC news I am ecstatic to see Spurrier and Campbell reunite for more Hellblazer, but otherwise it was a fairly muted showing from DC aside from one huge rumor that I'll cover in a separate post. Oh and I guess there was the Elseworlds announcement but since that was mostly Batbooks I’m not interested.

Apologies to all the Asks about the new Ultimate Universe, I did get them but they were deleted.

Ultimate Spider-Man - Pitch is perfect, a mid-life Peter inspired by Spiderverse Peter B. Parker is exactly what I want. Ideally this Peter will be married to MJ and a father to Mayday but we can't rule out Hickman throwing a curveball and having him be divorced or dating Liz Allen or something. Seeing DoomReed hold the spider in the vial that Maker had, plus the transition scenes of 6160 Peter wearing all the suits makes me guess that DoomReed will time travel back and give Peter his powers similar to how he and Tony used time travel to save Cap. Thus this Peter will have been Spider-Man for a while, in secret. Or it's setting up a bunch of variant covers and instead we will see what happens when Peter gets his powers much later than usual. Either way I am excited about reading Spider-Man comics again, no mean feat.

Ultimate Black Panther - Great choice for writer, Hill's run on Blade rules and his name dropping Dune as an influence has me hyped since I love the book too and it's influence is all over the work of Hickman and PKJ. Great artist in Caselli. Moss is the editor and that is not great. He edited the main BP book and his tenure has been a disaster. Hickman needs to be involved to protect Hill from Moss. Costume design is not great either, feels 90s in a bad way. Of all the new Ultimate books, this is the one I hope is most like the old UU in terms of updating T'Challa, his supporting cast, and Rogues Gallery for a modern era. Fine to start off with "Ultimate Moon Knight", but let's not wait too long to bring in traditional Panther foes like Achebe who need the spotlight and revamps.

Ultimate X-Men - Not interested. Momoko is a talented artist but I only care about the A-List X-Men. A bunch of OC mutants does not intrigue me. Easy skip.

No Ultimates is surprising but my suspicion is that Black Panther will tell the story of T'Challa housing the Ultimates in Wakanda and Hickman wants to push people towards Hill's book. Eventually the Ultimates will spin out of UBP I reckon.

Expect the same level of quality here as Orlando showed on the previous SW book. That said if this is not setting up the restoration of the twins being mutants, I find more Magneto drama tedious. Either pull the trigger and make them mutants again or keep them away from Magneto and the X-Line.

And that was basically it for Marvel announcements that I care about. Might check out the vampire event since McKay is writing, haven't decided yet.

Somebody’s really trying to argue with me that Into the Spiderverse isn’t a real Spider-Man movie just because Peter Parker isn’t the main character, but they have absolutely no issues with the writing of Disney Marvel’s Baby Parker who can’t do squat (even be his own damn character) unless Iron-Man’s there to hold his hand.
