Buddy Request: are you a Loki obsessed high fantasy lover?

I would really like to connect with fellow Loki fans who want to rant about/analyze Loki and Thor's psychology, family dynamics, Asgardian society, Jotunheim, magic/seiðr, and the Nine Realms. Ideas/thoughts that aren't canon-compliant with the MCU are more than welcome!

Let me set the scene:

For the past year and a half, I've been working on developing a longfic featuring a Thor 2011 Loki and an OC Sigyn. Honestly, I don't think that I'll get around to posting it anytime soon (there's still so much work to be done on it), but it's constantly on my mind. It's sort of a hybrid concept of the MCU, Norse Mythology, my own ideas, OCs, and magic systems. It has an epic scope with multiple arcs and characters from most of the Nine Realms. Do you like characters with wings? I got you covered. An imminent threat to the Nine Realms? Check. An in-depth analysis of Ásgarðr and Jǫtunheimr's history uncovered during Loki's identity crisis? A Jǫtunn OC? A Laufey that never wanted to lose his child? Check, check, and check.

I've found it hard to talk to people about all this because it involves a LOT of worldbuilding. Epic fantasy definitely isn't for everyone and this will not be a "light" read. Some non-fanfic stories that have inspired me along the way include the Roots of Chaos series by Samantha Shannon (The Priory of the Orange Tree and A Day of Fallen Night) and Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. So if you like those types of stories, you might like the ideas I come up with.

If you relate to anything I've said, I also want to mention that I would love to hear about your ideas as well! If you feel trapped inside your own head and feel hesitant to "info-dump" on people, I am the person for you. And hey, maybe we can inspire each other :) Fanfiction is not about gatekeeping, and I have been unabashedly inspired by so many different takes on Loki that I've read along the way.

Im REALLY loving how they made Odin a “manipulative mob boss” type, someone who rules with psychological presence, charisma rather than raw power and might.

A breath of fresh air compared to like… 99% “big fellas” in the series (2/3 of this group included) plus perfect sense Atreus would “vibe more” with him, since he’s never really been one for muscle talk.

Unpopular opinion…

It seems as if everyone is annoyed at Bryce for not immediately sharing every detail of her world with the IC. Bryce did not read 5 ACOTAR books or know these people as we do. Her experience with Fae (rightfully) show that they are horrible. These people overthrew her enemy which must mean they are dangerous.

Although they do not physically torture her it is EXTREMELY CLEAR not just by their actions but actual DIALOGUE that they do not trust Bryce

Also, the IC just finished a war and for the first time in most of their lives are experiencing peace. We know from ACOTAR that Rhysand and friends will do all that is necessary to keep their world save even if that includes killing Bryce which could upon a portal for the big bad “Daglan/ Asteri”

Bryce realising she needs to escape and being reckless is understandable she left her mate and family behind and she doesn’t have time to win the IC’s trust. They clearly view her as a prisoner not a guest and have disarmed her. Bryce does not have one reason to trust them or even expect to them to be trustworthy.

I feel the people who feel let down by this crossover are let down by the fact that the CRESCENT CITY book centers around the CRESCENT CITY characters and isn’t more batboy smut.

There are definitely plot points that could have been dealt with better such as the information from Silene, everything about Ithan. The biggest issue I have with Bryce is her seemingly having this golden hamster wheel in her mind which happens to make perfect conveniently timed plans. Bryce does feel like a moderniser attempt at Aelin’s character. That being said constantly drawing comparisons between the FMC takes away from them so it isn’t something I feel I should do.

Ithan is so annoying to me especially his inability to stay on track or have any logical thought process. I don’t understand his undying loyalty to the wolves who abandoned and betrayed him. Sigrid tried to KILL HIM as well but he still yapped on about her and had no respect for his friend Cormac by not even protesting against the idea of resurrecting Sophie just to use her power to make himself feel better. He should have focused on the friends that are loyal to him which he even called his pack.

Also ENOUGH with the sunball references. Only so much benefits can be drawn from sunball which directly correlates with any real world benefit.

Tharion just feels like one big yap fest (lack of a better explanation to convey the boredom he perpetuates in me). Aidas and Appolion also could have spoken up about EVERYTHING about two books ago or at least in all their little encounters with Hunt.

Jesiba Roga and Fury 🤝 Mor and Amren

(Overhyped and underperforming)

I have religiously read every Sarah J Maas and all things considered I really enjoyed this book it might even be my favorite in the CC universe.

I enjoyed it more than Tower of Dawn, ACOSF and ACOFAS but I will not read the next book if it is about Ithan or Tharion.

I suspect Azriel is linked to Hel but Sarah definitely still has alot of loose threads surrounding him which is starting to feel redundant and an elaborate attempt at making him seem mysterious.

Things I would like so see in the Maasverse: the parasite being removed from the water and the Midgardians tapping into their raw power, better understanding of Bryce and Hunt joint ability. I also think Sarah could become one of the best fantasy writers of all time if she focused more on how the multiverse works (time differences, abilities (technicalities of it all). I would like to know what happened to Erilea because all the evidence points to it being a conquered world which will honestly just be depressing but we see that Prythian and midgard follow the same time sequence so perhaps Erilea is joined in on that time scape and Aelin falling through still happens relatively “recent”.

And I agree on how annoying the term “alphahole” is but lets focus on the real enemy “his luxurious length”. That just reminds me of ms Perky in 10 things I hate about you and Reginalds quivering member.

Let’s move away from the smut which was excellently balanced out in TOG in my opinion. I do think that Sarah amortised her credibility as a fantasy writer between TOG and ACOTAR by focusing more on the smut scenes and not the plot point. I am ready to be hated but I DON’T care about what Lorcan did or Cassian and the stupid headboard. I DO care about how the time differs between the universes, the different gods in all the worlds and how they link, each string on the harp and the different heritages.

I ended up attempting a bit of concept art for my post-Ragnarok AU! From top to bottom, we have Greece, Rome, and Midgard XDD

These are technically background studies too since I struggle with perspective and wanted to practice! My references were screenshots of those “What did Ancient Greece/Rome look like?” videos on YouTube. Regardless of how accurate the videos are, they at least gave me that Greco-Roman inspired setting that I needed -- and besides, this is God of War, so historical accuracy isn’t totally necessary lololl

As for Kratos’ house, I think I messed up on the proportions, especially for the roof loll But overall, I’m quite happy with it! :DDD Unfortunately though (or maybe fortunately?), Kratos is not home when Atreus and Calliope visit the house ^^;;

Dating Thor Headcanons

As a Midgardian...

Thor is clueless about dating traditions on Earth. And he was not even going to date anyone on Earth, but then he saw you.

You're close-but-not-that-close with the Avengers, and the moment Thor saw you, he knew he was going to court you.

But he wanted to do it the right way, so he did some reading and observed around, looking at other couples.

He went as far as to ask for tips from Tony and Clint.

Truth be told, you liked Thor too. But you hadn't asked him out because you thought that he had an Asgardian girlfriend or something. After all, women over there were far more beautiful than those on earth. So why would he even look at you?

But he did. And after enough preparation, he's going to ask you out.

You were surprised when he did, but said yes immediately because you had liked the god for a long time.

Soon, you were in a relationship.

Thor would keep you as happy as he could, bringing you gifts and precious jewels from Asgard, telling you stories of himself and the Warriors three and Lady Sif, and spending a lot of time with you.

He'd never fail to remind you how much you mean to him, and how beautiful, smart and kind you are. Whenever you felt insecure and down because of all other beautiful women - Midgardian and Asgardian - would throw themselves at Thor, the God of Thunder always consoled you and told you that you are the one he wants.

You'd get many jealous looks from women and men, because of your relationship with the God. You had expected that, since Thor was otherworldly handsome and powerful, but took time to adjust to it.

You and Thor love to go to different tourist places and explore the Earth. The fact that he can fly is a bonus.

You always understand when he has to go back to Asgard and don't hold it against him, even when you miss him terribly.

You and he try out different dishes and cuisines from around the world, and he's fascinated by the sheer variety.

Whenever you are sad, he does everything - and I mean everything - to help you feel better. Sometimes, you just burst out laughing because of his sheer innocence/idiocy. But you know he's doing that for you, and you're eternally grateful.

Thor's love language is physical touch. He loves to hold you, kiss you, run his fingers through your hair, caress your cheek and massage your sore muscles. You were taken aback by the gravity of that at first, but love it now.

He's not as dumb as people make him out to be. He's quite smart, and you can see that. He's a lovable himbo, but he's not stupid.

The fact that you're mortal and he's immortal and that you're not gonna stay with him forever is a tense topic, and you avoid discussing it.

There is however, the unspoken truth that you're gonna be with each other as long as you can.

In fact, he wants to introduce you to his family.

Thor's not the smartest, but he is the most loving and caring. And that's all you need, a partner to cherish you, hold you, and love you beyond all your faults.
