To repeat myself: Now that BOAW chapter three's first page is back out, and the character refs are posted-I can now post Valerian and Gladiolus concept art and images that go WAY back to the early times of my blog. Marx parent talk below:

Marx's parents Valerian and Gladiolus are kinda the opposite of how I've seen more Marx parents depicted in fandom spaces. While I do enjoy the typical innocent Dreamlander Marx parent who has no idea of how insane their son is, I much prefer the idea of a Marx parent or parents who are also as insane as their son.

Gladiolus and Valerian have their sweet positive traits, but equally have cunning, mischievous, conniving personality traits. As a matter of fact-Valerian's theft and outright lying of a certain artifact led Marx to exist in the first place. Marx very much here is a product of nature, not nurture.

Now saying all that, Valerian and Gladiolus have a healthy loving relationship, and love their son all the same. It will be frequently hinted at that Marx's view of the situation in terms of going no contact with his parents is not as malicious as he makes it seem to be (he is always an unreliable narrator if we've learned anything) in the second chapter of Birth of a Wish. But anyway I enjoy these two and the chaos they add to Nextgen's world.

Magolor: Okay well, cent is pronounced the same way as scent so I’m gonna say the S is silent.

Susie: Okay, but sent is also spelled the same way.

Magolor: Google says that the C was added in the late seventeenth century, so I guess the S is silent.

Marx: Plot twist, both the S and the C are silent and the E actually makes the sss sound.

Susie: Marx is not allowed to talk anymore.

I had done this for the clown week but for reasons I couldn't finish it in time (I still had more characters in mind to add but if I continued it would never end) but I thought it would be a waste not to publish it so I decided to do it postscript: if you have a character clown branch (classic clowns, jesters, mimes, pierrots, etc.) who that you like and is not here, put it in the comments and I will take it into account for next year! :o]

Now that chapter three's first page is back up here's something kinda new- old character refs for the comic! Including now baby Marx and his parents; Valerian and Gladiolus. Valerian has already appeared in chapter 3 and Gladiolus appeared in the scrapped chapter 3, but is planned to appear in chapter 4 (yes, there's more chapters planned than you think).
