Thank you for the distraction! 6 songs from my Fuck The System playlist coming up! Also including my favorite lyric from each song because fuck it, it helps me focus on anything else!
Mini Playlist
1. Antivist by Bring Me The Horizon
Lyric: Oh, give me a break, you deluded, ill-informed, self-serving pricks! If you really believe in the words that you preach get off your screens and onto the streets. There will be no peaceful revolution, no war without blood. You can say I'm just a fool that stands for nothing... Well, to that, I say you're a cunt.
2. Aggressive by Beartooth
Lyric: Does it strike a nerve if my voice is heard? You've lost all control of me. It's time to find the edge, time to seek revenge I don't have any sympathy. Now we're lashing out, now you start to doubt take a look at your reality. We're the living proof. We're the harshest truth. All thanks to you we're the aggressive youth!
3. Wake Up by Black Veil Brides
Lyric: See it in our eyes that we were never blind. I will fight for you until the day I die. We'll shout it from the tallest building. We, won't let them turn away we'll show them what they made, we'll be here when their heart stops beating. We the nation of today our hopes that never fade. We'll be here when their heart stops beating.
4. SLEEPS SOCIETY by While She Sleeps
Lyric: It’s the difference of opinion drawing lines across the land we live in you’re entitled to a voice so let me hear it. Resilient, it’s time to be the change you want to witness it started as a vision now we live it. The tables will turn, it won’t be the first it won’t be the last, we’re here to prove that we can speak for the masses. If you give what you take, you take what you give, you want to rebuild; create a system where the people exist. All of this energy can’t go to waste. If we don’t take the chances then we’re just the same as the leaders who lead us away from salvation. Welcome to the Sleeps Society!
5. Some Kind Of Hope by Stick To Your Guns
Lyric: In a world that can't, we can. In a world that hates, we understand. We are some kind of love. We're at the end of our rope. We are some kind of hate. We are some kind of hope
6. RMA (Revolutionary Mental Attitude) by Stick To Your Guns ft. Toby Morse
Lyric: Revolutionary mental attitude! Fuck the message, fuck its good intentions. A new attitude for a new generation! You can't fight back if you won't stand up. Being positive is no longer enough! I take a stand to do what I can and if I can't, I find out how I can. Control the feeling, organize, make a plan you can't do it all, but look into the soul and realize the role. Realize the role! The words alone won't last. Fuck the message!

I Like Their Old Stuff: Best of 2021, Albums, Songs, and more!
2021, you ignorant bastard. I can’t believe they took Betty White from us on the last day of the year. Just trying to rehash 2020 in a different way with a fucking really terrible ending. Less riots. Less looting. Now the outrage is about mandates and vaccines and thank fuck we’re not at war, but here’s Ukraine…
I’m so tired. Aren’t you? It’s exhausting to me. Every day inundated with Covid-19, Dems vs GOP, Let’s Go Brandon, Fuck Trump, Where’s proof of your 9th booster? OMICRON SOUNDS LIKE A DECEPTICON! FUCK. THIS. SHIT! Like, I’m just so fucking beat down and ready for a break, thank the lord Baby Jesus, for music and for all of you for holding it down for the underground.
So how was this year sonically? Marvelous. Magnificent. Majestic. MMMMmmmm Bitch. And the one true escape for most of us. The art over the last two years has been fucking incredible and I am not fucking talking about NFT’s good god.
So what are the criteria for these lists? Every year since I started this in 2018, I’ve wanted to do an end-of-year list(s) and I never ended up doing it. As far as songs go, I have no reason to stray from the genres we cover, albums I can’t say that I’ll always stay in the niche. It’s hard to say where I’m going from here just because I listen to Drum and Bass music more than anything else, and I have a music blog that has nothing to do with any of it. As far as live shows go, I’ve only been to 9 and had to cancel several.
This year it was massive for Hardcore music broadening its audience and landing artists like Turnstile, Angel Du$t, One Step Closer, Drain, and Every Time I Die landing on all sorts of end-of-year best-of lists. I feel like the biggest punk part of the year was The Linda Linda’s, and metal was so obviously growing in 73 different directions and landing an otherwise up-and-coming symphonic Deathcore band at the top of Rock charts all across the internet and world. There is no doubt that underground guitar-driven music can compete with rap music today. I’m not getting lost in the weeds of hip hop, all I see is rap music. What I also see is a lot of that music pulling all parts of punk, metal, and hardcore, into their influences. Whether it be moshing at shows, woo that’s a whole other conversation, to clothing, to sampling and literally screaming lyrics, the influence is still there. Etiquette needs to be the biggest part of rap music’s pull from this culture because it will help protect the fans, the artists, the venues, promoters, and more. Again, the whole other conversation being had in real-time still!
It should be known, I have major issues with MGK so he is not a part of my lists, never will be. Y’all put a massive dork on a pedestal. Shit is hilarious.

ARCHSPIRE - BLEED THE FUTURE 19. WAGE WAR - MANIC 20. THRICE – HORIZONS/EAST 21. WHILE SHE SLEEPS – SLEEPS SOCIETY
Hey! This is my taste. Not yours. You can criticize it but if you’re expecting me to be you, well got some news for ya bud or lady or whomever… I’m not you. I’m only me. This isn’t a team. It’s just one guy listening to music and reading press releases and begging for photo passes. The quarantine year of 2020 made it obvious that so many artists want to work. They just want to create. I am fucking here for it. You can find plenty of shit in the world to dislike or like. It’s your choice what you focus on. Keep in mind the MGK comment earlier in this post, was about 3 paragraphs long before I edited it to a mere sentence. You could literally take the top 5 of this list and rearrange them in any way and I’m cool with it. You could take 6-21 and do the same and yeah, it’s really hard to rank shit when there are things on each record that could move it all the way to the top, so I’ve been perplexed all month with all of these lists. I’m going to try to go even further in-depth next year. So many good records and a couple of masterpieces.
EP’S OF THE YEAR
KNOCKED LOOSE – A TEAR IN THE FABRIC OF LIFE LORNA SHORE - …AND I RETURN TO NOTHINGNESS TURNSTILE - TURNSTILE LOVE CONNECTION CIRCA SURVIVE – A DREAM ABOUT LOVE BELMONT – BOWSER'S MIXTAPE
I wanna give it to Lorna Shore for putting out the heaviest song of the year, the heaviest release, and getting the number one trending metal song of the summer during fucking Metallica’s 30th anniversary of the black album parade. But the full schabang for EP’s goes to Knocked Loose, absolutely loved it as a visual piece of art, the songs are brute as fuck, and just straight mosh heavy. I love this band. I love this music. I love how fucking predictable I have been this year.
FAVORITE SONGS OF THE YEAR
FIDDLEHEAD – HEART TO HEART 2. LORNA SHORE – TO THE HELLFIRE 3. TURNSTILE – MYSTERY 4. EVERY TIME I DIE – PLANET SHIT 5. GOJIRA – BORN FOR ONE THING 6. KNOCKED LOOSE – GOD KNOWS 7. SPIRITBOX – CIRCLE WITH ME 8. ARCHITECTS – DEAD BUTTERFLIES 9. QUICKSAND - INVERSION 10. HEART ATTACK MAN - LEAP YEAR
“Heart to Heart” by Fiddlehead was one of my most listened to songs but it’s the one that made me break down and have a moment in my life where I took a massive step forward. Lorna Shore has hands down the heaviest song of the year with “To The Hellfire”. Fucking… gimme a god damn orange, Turnstile played “Mystery” on Seth Meyer’s late-night tv show a few weeks ago, wtf. The “FUCK! YOU!… DIE!” breakdown in “Planet Shit” by Every Time I Die is fucking perfect to me. And I’m just going to mention number 10, Heart Attack Man is a band that I’d be paying attention to if I was looking for young Mid West pop-punk millennial fuckery. I really like them and the song “Leap Year” is pretty fucking relatable coming from a dirtbag like myself.
ARTIST OF THE YEAR
THIS ONE SHOULD DEFINITELY BE OBVIOUS… IT’S… TURNSTILE.
Turnstile has found a way into every heart in the hardcore scene and so many adjacent to it. A lot of the kids who are bumping Olivia Rodrigo this year will be pumping up Turnstile in a couple of years. This band is a gateway for the next generation. A kid who is 16 listening to Turnstile today as a new fan will get to Drain by summer, will end up dancing in their bedroom to Knocked Loose driving their Gen X parents batshit. I told myself I’d never be like the gatekeepers I encountered in the 90s and 2000s. I swore that if this was really what I cared about, that I’d do my best to help anyone who is younger and interested. I feel like I’m doing a mediocre job but it’s better than I honestly expected myself to do. I used to be such an elitist. Bands like this and the people in it have calmed me the fuck down with that shit. There is no real template for hardcore. It’s just a bunch of people who like the same shit, have the same values, and want to make music for themselves and their friends. When it gets to a point where you’re topping every end-of-year list out there, well, in this case, it couldn’t happen to better people. Turnstile will be here at the Majestic in the Spring, it’s sold out. I just hope I can get media for it, and that they remove the barricade. BEHOLD, THE TRUE CURRENT KINGS OF HARDCORE
FAVORITE PHOTO FROM 2021
I am in fact a photographer sometimes. So here is my favorite photo I took of 2021.
I’ve been struggling for the last couple of years to get out of this last period of my life. I feel like I’m still stuck being this same person I’ve tried so hard to evolve from. At any point in time, I’d like to wake up feeling like I did the right things to make positive changes. I have in most aspects did what everyone’s done since early 2020, tread water.
We know things are always going to change and life will always have to be different. I guess what I’m looking for is more clarity and true consciousness of my sanity or lack thereof, whichever it may be. There’s a lot more to work on and this site is one of those things that will help me attain the things I’m searching for. Maybe that’s why I neglect it so much? I’ve always hated results. I don’t know, don’t @ me. I used to do all the homework I needed to then get so fucked up with anxiety because teachers would read my writing aloud to the class. Sometimes I had teachers who embraced that shit and I was fine with it. Then I got a couple that hated it and me and would make it torturous. That’s at least what one of my many past therapists said was the cause. Shame of someone not understanding me and getting a class of my peers to laugh at me. I think I need to be held accountable nowadays? But how do you hold yourself accountable to a fucking music blog? I need structure but how?
The work.
I am shifting in different ways and I can’t tell you how everything is going to be, but I do know that this type of candid writing is going to be on Patreon more than anywhere else. That’s right there’s a Patreon, I launched one, and all through 2022 I will be loading it up with all sorts of content that you can only find there. Anyway, making everything including this post about me is fun for my expression and it helps that this isn’t entirely built to be a media site. I’d like that to change though. I’d like to just build a huge library of bands and artists I’ve photographed and update on, and grow this into another level of creativity. So that’s what I’m doing. Evolving. Focusing. And well, growing up in my own way. Thanks for making it this far. See ya in 2022. Happy New Year. Good Luck. Stay Safe. More Cliches. It’s the god damn journey of assholes who are still here, where we go from here, no one knows. I’ll be baked when I get there though. Peace be with all of you weird little people. P.S. I can’t do show of the year when I only got to go to 9. Next year.

Top 20 Songs of 2017
Spotify Playlist
Long post under the cut
20. ‘Laps Around A Picture Frame’ - Broadside
In my AOTY post, and throughout this year, I commended Broadside on their ability to write fun, upbeat songs, so it surprised me that ‘Laps Around A Picture Frame’, one of the album’s darker tracks, ended up making this list. This song is more interesting - both musically and lyrically - than a lot of Broadside’s other work, and it still really stands out to me as a fantastic piece of songwriting.
19. ‘There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back’ - Shawn Mendes
If I had any sort of shame whatsoever, Shawn Mendes would be my guilty pleasure. As it stands, I unabashedly love his music, particularly this song. It’s considerably less depressing than pretty much everything else he’s ever written, and it’s an unbelievably fun and catchy song. I dare you to listen to ‘There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back’ without at least tapping your foot.
18. ‘Guilty Melody’ - ROAM
ROAM has got to be one of my favourite current pop punk bands, and I remained loyal to them despite the disaster that was Backbone. That loyalty paid off because their second LP, Great Heights and Nosedives, is full to the brim with great jams, none more so than ‘Guilty Melody’. Although the two singles that came out before this one were also really good, this track was the one that restored my faith in ROAM. It’s pretty much a perfect pop punk song, with an unerringly catchy tune, solid lyricism, and a vast improvement in singing ability from both vocalists.
17. ‘The Line’ - Foo Fighters
Although Concrete and Gold was generally a disappointment, ‘The Line’ is an absolutely fantastic soft rock song. It’s super laidback and chill, the melody is simple, which to me (as someone who knows nothing about rock instrumentation) seems to complement the slightly more intricate instrumental parts, and it sounds more like Foo Fighters than anything else off this record.
16. ‘The Last Of The Real Ones’ - Fall Out Boy
While I will readily admit that I’m not the biggest fan of Fall Out Boy’s new sound, this song is brilliant. It’s a great electro-rock anthem while remaining a recognisably Fall Out Boy song. The keyboard part works perfectly under the melody, which is simultaneously very simple but also quite interesting. I also love the contrast between the anthemic chorus and comparatively relaxed verses.
15. ‘One Foot’ - Walk The Moon
After being absent for a year or so, Walk The Moon returned in September with this indie pop bop. ‘One Foot’ has all the hallmarks of a classic WTM song - it’s super upbeat and very catchy with a solid melody and instrumental and synth parts that work perfectly underneath the vocal line. While it may not be the next ‘Shut Up And Dance’, it’s a fantastic pop song and the perfect tune for Walk The Moon to return with.
14. ‘All My Friends (feat. State Champs)’ - Hoodie Allen
It may surprise you to see a hip-hop song on this list - I feel the same way - but this song is just too good not to include. While ‘All My Friends’ may not be Hoodie’s best song, the way he and State Champs manage to blend their very different sounds is incredible and works surprisingly well. From the hip-hop beat during the verses to the almost breakdown in the bridge and the build-up to the explosive last chorus, every aspect of this song ties in wonderfully with the others and creates a very interesting and very fun song.
13. ‘Scatter My Ashes Along The Coast Or Don’t’ - Seaway
While I’d be hard pressed to pick a favourite song off Vacation, ‘Scatter My Ashes...’ would definitely be in the top three. It’s a ridiculously fun song, with some not so fun lyrics hidden under the upbeat melody and catchy riffs. It also features Caleb Shomo of Beartooth on a fantastic guest vocals spot. His voice works so well on this song and complements the Seaway boys’ perfectly, and it really just gives the track that extra boost.
12. ‘The Man’ - The Killers
I’ve never really listened to The Killers that much, and I think I only listened to this song in the first place because of Brandon Flower’s bicep in the thumbnail for the music video on YouTube. But thank god for that because ‘The Man’ very rapidly became one of my favourite songs. It’s got a lyrical theme that I’ve never seen before, as the band explores what it means to be a “man”, and it’s all laid over a funky 70s-esque disco beat with a fantastic melody.
11. ‘Hearts Don’t Break Around Here’ - Ed Sheeran
This may be a slightly sappy choice, but I’ll admit that I love a good romantic ballad, and by God if ‘Hearts Don’t Break Around Here’ isn’t exactly that. I feel like this song didn’t get the credit it deserved and was kind of brushed aside in favour of ‘Perfect’ but from day one this was my favourite track off Divide. It’s a perfect relaxed, stripped back, typical Ed Sheeran love song with very simple instrumentation and a gorgeous vocal melody that I can’t help but sing along to.
10. ‘Bad Behavior’ - The Maine
Lovely Little Lonely is made up of wall to wall jams, and none more so than lead single ‘Bad Behavior’. It’s an irresistibly fun song, that you can’t help but dance along to, and it’s impossible not to smile when you’re listening to it. It’s an incredible pop rock song, with that alternative edge that The Maine do so well. You might worry that after 10 years they would’ve stagnated, but this song is proof that The Maine are better than they’ve ever been.
9. ‘On My Own’ - Niall Horan
On an album full of beautiful ballads and acoustic slow jams, ‘On My Own’ stands out as the most upbeat song of the lot. It’s an Irish folk influenced anthem for the happily single, about having fun by yourself when you’re young. It may not be Niall’s strongest vocal performance on Flicker, but it shows the diversity in his writing and provides a welcome interlude from all the slower songs on the album. It’s another song that you just can’t help but nod along to, and perfectly blends the style of pop rock on One Direction’s later albums and the folk and country influences of Niall’s solo work.
8. ‘Soap’ - As It Is
This is arguably one of the most musically diverse and interesting pop punk songs of the decade. ‘Soap’ is a spooky, sinister, slightly aggressive track which is totally unexpected of As It Is. It probably wouldn’t sound out of place on a gothic horror movie soundtrack and is a fascinating take on the genre. The vocal performances from both singers are fantastic, with Patty effortlessly transitioning from the subdued verses to the almost screamed choruses. The guitars in the intro perfectly set the tone for the rest of the song, and the rumbling bass sounds incredible under everything else. ‘Soap’ is, without a doubt, the standout track from January’s okay. and possibly As It Is’ discography in general.
7. ‘Drowned In Gold’ - Boston Manor
This is a very late addition to this list, seeing as it only came out earlier this month, but in the space of 24 hours it had already pushed its way up to this position. I reviewed ‘Drowned In Gold’ when it was released, and all of the sentiments in that post still ring true today. The “choose life” lyrical structure of the verses is still one of the most interesting writing techniques I’ve heard in a while and I really can’t get over the creepy sound Boston Manor manages to create with the instruments in this track, and the musical progress they’ve made in the past year.
6. ‘Hurt’ - Trophy Eyes
This is probably the most depressing song on this list, and easily one of the most emotionally evocative. ‘Hurt’ is Trophy Eyes’ first release since their album Chemical Miracle last year, and you can tell they’ve put that year to good use with immense improvements across the board. The most noticeable improvement is John’s vocals. As far as I can remember (correct me if I’m wrong), this is the first song on which he’s only done clean vocals, and he sounds better than I ever imagined he could. ‘Hurt’ almost has a kind of stadium rock type vibe to it, and I, for one, love it.
5. ‘Praying’ - Kesha
‘Praying’ is the eagerly anticipated comeback track from beleaguered pop icon Kesha, and the perfect song to show not only how she’s progressed as an artist, but also the struggles she’s faced the past few years. The song alludes to her legal battle with her producer, but it is mostly a song about personal growth and overcoming your struggles. It’s a beautiful stripped back, piano-laden ballad which really lets Kesha’s immense vocal talent take the spotlight. ‘Praying’ is an incredibly powerful song, which has the ability to draw a huge amount of emotion from its listeners - if you haven’t cried listening to this song, you’re probably not human.
4. ‘Gone’ - Knuckle Puck
I don’t think it’s any secret that I love Knuckle Puck, but if you’ve been following this blog for a while and read my review of Shapeshifter, it’s also no secret that I wasn’t its biggest fan. However, I absolutely adore ‘Gone’. It may just be because it was the first thing to follow the hugely disappointing Calendar Days/Indecisive release earlier this year, or it may be because it’s a brilliant song. It has attitude and a certain aggressiveness that I love. It’s got the lyricism we’ve come to know and love from KP, and it’s unbelievably catchy. The duel vocalism works amazingly on this track and the slightly dotted rhythm in the guitar riff provides another interesting layer to the instrumentation.
3. ‘Atlantic’ - Grayscale
I can honestly say that this song has been the soundtrack to my 2017. Grayscale very quickly became one of my favourite bands this year, and their album Adornment was even my Album of the Year. ‘Atlantic’ is definitely what one could refer to as an anthem, with a powerful chorus that contrasts perfectly with the relatively chill verses and bridge. It’s a very mature sounding song, showcasing a writing ability far beyond what one would expect of such a young band, although there are a couple of very minor issues in the vocal line. But overall, this song is a brilliant piece of writing that I can imagine aging very well.
2. ‘Out Of It’ - The Story So Far
The excitement that I felt when this song dropped truly cannot be expressed in words. I still feel the same excitement every time 'Out Of It’ comes on, and I don’t think I’ve skipped it once since adding it to my playlist. It doesn’t stray too far from the classic TSSF sound, and probably wouldn’t sound out of place on The Story So Far. I love the change in rhythm between the verses and choruses, which isn’t something I’ve really seen that much in this type of music, and the punchy tune is just perfect for the attitude of the song. It’s just a shame Parker Cannon still can’t annunciate his words properly.
1. ‘In Bloom’ - Neck Deep
From the day ‘In Bloom’ was released I knew it would be in competition for my favourite song of this year. After listening to it maybe 4 or 5 times in a row, it was promptly named my favourite Neck Deep song and I stand by that decision. It’s the most musically interesting song they have released, and it’s so unique from the rest of their work. It showcases so well the improvement Ben has made in his vocal performance over the past couple of years - did anyone see that high note coming? - as well as the progress that the band has made as a whole in terms of their songwriting ability.

Roman Holiday.
Hello, world! It’s my first entry of 2020! And now I want to share how I had spent my winter holidays.
In this country, the majority of population celebrates Orthdox Christmas on January 7th, but the national holiday is New Year’s Day on December 31st. That’s why our holidays start on that day and end on Orthdox Christmas, so my holidays started in the beginning of January as well.
My parents decided to go on a trip to Rome, I haven’t been in Italy before, and I was equally excited and annoyed. Why annoyed? Because holidays with my parents and younger brother (let’s call him Justin) are always a nightmare. They don’t listen to me, force me to go to excursions with them (I prefer discovering everything on my own, even in the museums, and I hate excursions, because I have my own pace and I want to see things that I want), and...well, they all are abusive, so you can imagine the hell I’m going through every holiday trip. And I can’t refuse - I’m obligated to go on every holiday trip with them.
But as I said, I haven’t been in Rome before, and this was a great opportunity to see Colosseum and Trevi Fountain, I had seen them before only in books, so I was a bit interested in this trip. And now, as it had ended, I’ll give this trip a 5 out of 10 (usually it’s 1 out of 10, or even - 0,1 out of ten).
Of course, I saw Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and many other sights. But, as always, my parents forced me to go with them on a pointless excursions - first was the Rome sightseeing tour, then Vatican sightseeing tour.
Things that were bad:
My parents’ and Justin’s constant abuse;
I was really tired after tours;
They forced me to see the sights I didn’t wanted to see;
My depression;
My ED and/or OCD;
And some other things.
Things that were good:
Hard Rock Cafe Rome, of course!
Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, The Abduction of Proserpina in the Galleria Borghese;
Toy shop;
Pizza, ice cream, spaghetti.
Sunlight.
Also, when my parents took me and Justin to the mall, I found a very pleasant surprise at the bookshop - I got some A7X CDs. It’s impossible to get them in Russia, because they are not so popular there as, say, Metallica or Iron Maiden, so I couldn’t believe my own happiness when I found what I was looking for.
I took many pictures and I’ve posted them on my Instagram acc, melatonin15. Here’s some of them.

Some sights.

I even met the Claus characters!

And some Hard Rock Cafe memories.
Also, I have discovered a new band for me, Beartooth. I find their lyrics very relatable, so I listened to them a lot during flights, car rides, and walks in the park to not listen to my parents. Justin has complained once about my headphones, and mother had told him that she doesn’t mind me walking and listening to “pleasant music”...while I listened to Caleb Shomo’s screams. I doubt that she would’ve consider them “pleasant”, but I don’t care, because this music is good for my soul anyway - sometimes all I want to do is scream, scream, and scream.
Today, I’ve rewatched Live in the LBC that I’ve got, and I fell in love with A7X even more - it helps me cope with any difficulties. When in doubt, listen to A7X, this is the golden rule of my life.

Yes, Another Decade Recap List: These Are The 16 Most Impactful Records of the 2010′s
Look, to be honest, when it came to constructing some sort of “end of decade” list looking back on the 2010′s, we here at The Noise really had no idea what we wanted to do.
With literally hundreds and hundreds of amazing releases over the last 10 years, how in the world are we supposed to pick “the best” of the decade?
The answer: We aren’t.
See, the idea of something being labeled “the best” is subjective. It’s simply one person’s opinion vs the other. And truthfully, the idea of us thinking our opinion on something is any better or more important than yours makes us look like a bunch of assholes.
Really, who cares what we think is the best?
So, after constructing a colossal playlist featuring 1000 of our favorite songs from the 2010′s, something became very clear to us. Of all the songs we picked, there were a handful of records that contributed way more songs than the others.
Simply put, these albums made a lasting mark on this decade that go way deeper than them being any good or not. These particular albums helped influence a generation, jumpstart artists’ careers and ultimately solidify themselves as the most impactful releases of the 2010′s.
The albums we decided to shine a light on from the last ten years are records that carry more weight than just being a fan-favorite. We’re talking about releases we’ll look back on as a moment where everything changed for that artist.
To check out the 16 albums we think are the biggest movers and shakers from our scene over the last ten years, be sure to look below. Afterward, if you hate our list and really want to tell us your opinion, you can file a complaint at: [email protected].
16) Movements - Feel Something
youtube
Starting our list off is a debut record from 2017 that helped propel a band from opening act to headliner in no time. With an impressive six-track EP released the year prior, SoCal act Movements quickly solidified their emerging star status with their flawless LP Feel Something. Following their first-ever full-length, Movements went on to sell out 27 dates of their first headlining tour and perform on the main stage of the final cross country Warped Tour. With a new album on the horizon, we’ll see just how far Movements and their unique brand of alternative pop-punk are able to take things leading into a new decade.
15) Dance Gavin Dance - Acceptance Speech
youtube
How does a band with two former frontmen and four fantastic LPs continue to thrive eight years into their career? Enter, Tilian Pearson. Following another departure of original vocalist Jonny Craig, post-hardcore experimentalists Dance Gavin Dance turned to the former Tides Of Man singer to handle the vacant role of clean vocals. The result? The game-changing release of Acceptance Speech which helped spring-board the band to another level of musical perfection. Six years and three more genre-defining albums later, DGD and Pearson are still going strong gearing up to headline their own hometown festival and release their ninth full-length album all thanks in part to their 2013 LP.
14) Ice Nine Kills - The Silver Scream
youtube
Coming in as the most recent record on our list, this horror-based release will be seen as the turning point in a band’s seasoned tenure. After 10-plus years of honing their craft, Boston’s Ice Nine Kills finally saw the fruits of their labor with the groundbreaking, career-defining album The Silver Scream. Taking the passion of metalheads and scary movie fanatics and combining them into a blood-soaked, breakdown-heavy package, Ice Nine Kills constructed a record that will easily withstand the test of time and help them extend their careers well into the 2020′s.
13) Code Orange - I Am King
youtube
Dropping the “Kids” from their moniker and shifting gears into their first album as just Code Orange, the Pittsburgh bruisers constructed an unrelenting metal record that shook listeners to their core. With a punishing opening track that literally warns you about what you’re about to experience, it was pretty evident I Am King was unlike anything people have ever heard. Coupled with the mind-altering “Dreams In Inertia” and the utterly pulverizing “My World,” Code Orange quickly and deservingly so became the metal megastars they were destined to become.
12) Ghost - Meliora
youtube
Speaking of metal megastars, after slowly creating word-of-mouth with their cult-like presence, throwback metal sounds and revolving door of Papa Emeritus frontmen, Sweedish act Ghost finally put it all together with their third studio album Meliora. Lead by the Grammy-winning single “Cirice,” Meliora fused haunting heavy metal imagery with roaring and anthemic songwriting creating the perfect package of evil-yet-accessible music. Debuting at number 8 on the Billboard 200 chart selling an estimated 29,000 copies in its first week, it was clear no matter which Papa was fronting the band, Ghost was ready to claim their spot atop the metal hierarchy.
11) Issues - Issues
youtube
Not many bands can say that their first full-length album debuted inside the top ten of the Billboard 200. But then again, not many bands are Issues. Fusing djent, hip-hop, metal, pop-punk, R&B and more to create their sensational self-titled album, Issues proved they were more than just a band featuring former members of Woe, Is Me. Instead, Issues showcased a group of talented, trendsetting musicians destined to change the landscape of metalcore music for the better.
10) I Prevail - Lifelines
youtube
After a famed cover of a well-known pop artist quickly put them on the map, Detroit’s I Prevail instantly had all the pressure in the world as they started to create what would be their debut album. Riding the success of their first EP Heart Vs Mind and tours with the likes of Hollywood Undead, Crown The Empire and Pop Evil, the Michigan act suddenly shot to the top of the metalcore ranks with the release of their remarkable, sonically-charged LP Lifelines. Charting at number 15 on the Billboard 200 selling over 19,000 copies in the first week, I Prevail went on to play Warped Tour for the first time -- finding a home on the main stage -- and later headlined the Rage On The Stage tour with scene veterans We Came As Romans, The Word Alive and Escape The Fate. Now Grammy-nominated and continuing to grow even larger, thanks in part to the accomplishments of Lifelines, I Prevail is without-a-doubt one of our scene’s biggest acts.
09) PVRIS - White Noise
youtube
In the midst of metalcore’s supremacy in the Warped Tour scene -- thanks to the never-ending list of “Risecore” bands -- came an act no one saw coming. Featured on a roster with the likes of Memphis May Fire, Miss May I, Like Moths To Flames, Crown The Empire and more was a pop-savvy, synth-lead baby band mistakenly pronounced “p-ver-is.” With their infectious, critically acclaimed debut White Noise landing at number 88 on Billboard and totaling nearly 50 million YouTube views on its TEN music videos, PVRIS proved it was possible to make an impact in this community with sheer talent, hard work, and catchy-as-hell lyricism. After just one listen to the undeniably great lead single “St. Patrick,” you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about.
08) Knocked Loose - Laugh Tracks
youtube
15 years from now, if we haven’t burnt the earth to the ground yet, we’ll look back on the Laugh Tracks era of Knocked Loose and remember where we were -- you know, because by 2034 Knocked Loose will be one of the biggest bands on the planet. Anyway, for us, the most memorable moment was watching them play “Billy No Mates” on the 2017 Vans Warped Tour at the Full Sail Stage. It was easily the largest and most insane side stage set we had ever seen in our 10 years of attending Warped Tour. From that very moment, we knew Knocked Loose and Laugh Tracks were going to be a big deal. Fast forward to 2019 and the band is now selling out 2,000-capacity venues on a semi-nightly basis. 2034 here we come!
07) Beartooth - Disgusting
youtube
Very rarely does a member of a former band make it bigger with his second act. In those situations though, those people aren’t Caleb Shomo. Venturing out from his teenage band Attack Attack!, Shomo started Beartooth as a fun project with zero expectations of anything blowing up. Little did he know after building buzz with his chaotic 2013 EP Sick, Beartooth was about to take things to a whole nother level with the release of their massive breakout LP Disgusting. Fiery and fearsome from start to finish and full of nothing but hits like “In Between,” "The Lines” and “Beaten In Lips,” Disgusting is definitely the fuse that lit Beartooth’s outstanding career.
06) Every Time I Die - Low Teens
youtube
How does a hardcore band 18 years into a well-respected career keep things relevant and progressing to a point where they’re anointed into “cult” status? Well, how about releasing their darkest, most emotionally charged album of their discography. After a life-altering scare to frontman Keith Buckley and his family, the longtime vocalist constructed some of his deepest and most honest lyrics for Every Time I Die’s soul-crushing LP Low Teens. Featuring guest vocals from Deadguy’s Tim Singer and Panic! At The Disco’s Brendon Urie (plus their most moving song to date “Map Change”), ETID showed off their versatility with their eighth studio album and were treated to a successful two-year touring cycle with the likes of Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, Motionless In White and Turnstile as well as a memorable run on the last-ever Vans Warped Tour. Not to mention, following the success of Low Teens, the band’s hometown of Buffalo, NY officially proclaimed December 15th, 2018 as “Every Time I Die Day” and a year later inducted them into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame.
05) Of Mice & Men - Restoring Force
youtube
While some may point to 2011′s The Flood as the record that “broke” scene-favorites Of Mice & Men and others might argue their debut self-titled release was what laid the foundation for one of this decade’s most successful acts, we’d like to focus on 2014. Continuing to climb the metalcore ranks following the release of two very well-received records, Austin Carlile and Co. put out their career-changing LP Restoring Force featuring new bassist and clean vocalist Aaron Pauley. Laying to rest any displeasure about their changes in sound or lineup, Of Mice & Men went on to sell over 51,000 copies in the first week peaking at number 4 on the Billboard 200. Riding the success of their third full-length album, OM&M later went on to support bands like Linkin Park and Rise Against out on tour thus solidifying their spot as one of the biggest metalcore acts of the 2010′s.
04) A Day To Remember - Common Courtesy
youtube
Some people remember A Day To Remember’s Common Courtesy for different reasons. Maybe it was the hilarious “reality series” made to promote the record -- the “Golden Eagle” episode was our favorite! Or maybe it was the seemingly never-ending lawsuit battle between the band and the notoriously greedy Victory Records -- we’ll never forget when ADTR broke the news on stage that the album was actually coming. For us, what we remember most was the first time we saw the music video for “Right Back At It Again.” We watched that goofy, cartoony music video 500 times trying to catch all the different things they put in the video -- like did you ever notice the surfing dog or aliens abducting cows? Well, whatever it was that got you to check out Common Courtesy, there’s no denying the impact it had on A Day To Remember’s career as the Ocala natives have only gotten even bigger since that 2013 release. With a new album on the way from the not-at-all-greedy Fueled By Ramen, it’ll be exciting to see where the 2020′s take ADTR next.
03) Architects - Holy Hell
youtube
With all the biopics being made today, there is no doubt in our mind one will be made about Brighton’s finest, Architects. With an already established career under their belts dating back to 2006, the band was continuing to see growth following their signing to Epitaph Records and the release of breathtaking LPs Lost Forever // Lost Together and All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us. Then, just like that, on August 20th, 2016 founding guitarist and primary songwriter Tom Searle lost his fight with cancer. Leaving the band in an obvious state of disarray after losing their bandmate and brethren, Architects were left with the choice of giving up or continuing Tom’s legacy. As with most biopics, this story has a positive ending as Architects decided to fight through the pain and ultimately release not just one of the best records of their career but one of the best records in metalcore, period.
02) Bring Me The Horizon - That’s The Spirit
youtube
This can go one of two ways: You either accept That’s The Spirit is Bring Me The Horizon’s most impactful career-defining record to date or fight with us to the death that Sempiternal is deserving of this spot. Either way, there’s no denying Bring Me The Horizon’s influence on this decade. With their boundary-pushing LP That’s The Spirit, frontman Oli Sykes traded his growl for more of a pop-laced bite as BMTH ushered in their most successful era as a band seeing their fifth studio album land at number 2 on the Billboard 200. Still doubting That’s The Sprit’s impact on the scene? In 2018, only three years after its release, the gold-certified record amassed over one BILLION Spotify streams -- billion, with a B!
01) Pierce The Veil - Collide With The Sky
youtube
Want to talk about a life-changing album? For San Diego scenesters Pierce The Veil, the famed four-piece went from a successful slow-building career to becoming a full-blown force with their third full-length record. Building off two well-received albums in A Flair For The Dramatic and Selfish Machines, Vic Fuentes and Co. (with the help of a Kellin Quinn-featured song) absolutely exploded into another stratosphere -- no pun intended -- with their now-gold-certified album Collide With The Sky. Lead by their platinum-selling single “King For A Day” and their Spanish-styled song “Bulls In The Bronx,” Pierce The Veil took the scene by storm thanks to their angsty, heart-pounding Fearless Records debut.
Honorable Mentions:
Deafheaven - Sunbather Falling In Reverse - The Drug In Me Is You Neck Deep - Life’s Not Out To Get You Nothing More - The Stories We Tell Ourselves PUP - PUP State Champs - Around The World And Back The Amity Affliction - Let The Ocean Take Me The Story So Far - What You Don’t See The Wonder Years - The Greatest Generation Wage War - Blueprints

Y’all life has been ROUGH this week there’s no doubt about it. Maybe it’s just me, but damn does music speak to me no matter what mood I’m in. Right now the song/lyrics that are speaking to me are Beartooth’s “In Between.” It’s alternative so if you’re in to that, I highly suggest you take a listen! And also Three Days Grace “Riot.” 🙌🏼 Post some of the lyrics you’re loving right now cuz I wanna knoooww! “Don't run away, run away, run away Up on the mountain I see down below It's easy to lose yourself I know Can't hear what you're shouting, I'm deaf to your show It's easy to lose your self control Everybody gets high, everybody gets low Life can be such overdose Up on the mountain I see down below It's easy to lose yourself I know in the in between Life's so dark when every day is a struggle why go out and see the world on fire Don't let your mindset become what controls you Speak right now and make the choice to grow I won't let pain get in my way I can't have silence claiming me We have strength in numbers, strength in numbers To get us through the day No compromises to be made, this is a war we're gonna win” - 📸@stefanielk (at Lucky Peak State Park and Reservoir & Arrowrock Dam- Idaho) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzy7yTYH1Z_/?igshid=1tey6411o0uin
