Me 2 years ago occasionally getting sick while dealing with chronic pain everyday: "well at least i don't feel ill all the time like my mom has to deal with. I just have to deal with chronic pain all the time. I may be hurting but at least i have energy. "

Inhaled a Tylenol last night on accident. Literally. All the way down the windpipe. Was coughing powder all night til it dissolved. Had to lay on my back with my entire torso hanging off the bed to keep it from slipping down into my chest cavity, and I honestly have no idea how I was able to fall asleep like that, except for total exhaustion.

If I had a nickel for every time this has happened, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it's happened twice.

You know who should have this happen more often?

Always manage to brighten me up, especially when I get my broom-guitar going to rock out! I used to get teased a bit about it, but Byakuren says that I should never be ashamed of expressing my happiness, especially when it's such a joyous celebration! It really meant a lot to me. When I first started at the temple, I kinda hated it because I thought I had to be all stiff and quiet, and hide things like my tail wagging- like it is when I go to the village- but…with her help, and with the band becoming so big…I'm not ashamed!

Here it is this morning. I'm alternating between this singles I spun and dyed a couple years back (yellow) and the singles I spun while meeting up with a fellow spinner in another city--its cormo top, and they lent me their dragonfly spindle to use it. I remember the experience really clearly, it was a good day. I've just had this little cop of singles sitting around since like 2021, but now I get to use it !

I anticipate I'll need to iron the base a lot to get it to stand right, but so far so good. The yellow yarn is lasting way longer than I thought, so it'll be a good tall bag I'm hoping.

Still don't know how sound the idea is, but it's coming along.

So, used up a little of what remains of my beautiful rya lambswool that I had dyed a couple years back I think, to make the second handle on this bag (which is also done, just keep forgetting to take pics). And then I thought, wow, this would be the great base for a bag !

This picture fails to really show the base since it's covered in one of the other yarns I'm using. I had this idea of a very thick felted base (rigid, if I can manage it) and then a much thinner fabric that has a wider circumference so it can bulge out a little, with a drawstring on top. Originally I was going to felt the base first, but I think I want the fabric to be felted also, and I've already played the game of "Can I felt the initial element and then add more stuff and felt again ?". Which for the record, you can, but I've found it's unpredictable how much the first part will felt the second time. So dimensions get much more tricky. So, I will felt it all in one go before I add the drawstring.

Initially I wanted to knit the fabric part, but the base is already so rigid that dpns really didn't work (ridiculous laddering at the corners plus just terrible to work with). Now I am doing double crochet (us terms). I will update with how it goes.

Also, my roommate is going to make seitan with me, which is exciting ! They've made it a few times and I fucking love seitan and want to learn how to make it myself, since vital wheat gluten is currently very cheap at my nearest store. Or rather the thing in the bin next to it which is identical is very cheap, which is basically the same thing.

So I probably won't finish crocheting tonight, but maybe tomorrow ! Pics to come.

At a time when the recreational use of ketamine is coming under more scrutiny from law enforcement after the death of actor Matthew Perry, a new study highlights its potential value as a treatment for fibromyalgia pain.

Ketamine is an anesthetic drug that is only FDA-approved for depression and anesthesia. But in recent years ketamine infusions are increasingly being used “off-label” for severe chronic pain conditions such as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS).

In a small systematic review (a study of studies), researchers in Brazil found that ketamine infusions were safe and effective in relieving fibromyalgia pain. The review was small – just 6 clinical trials involving 115 patients – because ketamine has rarely been considered as a treatment for fibromyalgia due to its potency. Ketamine infusions require constant medical supervision because they put patients into a temporary dream-like state that can lead to hallucinations and out-of-body experiences.

But the Brazilian researchers found the side effects from infusions were mild and short-term, with some fibromyalgia patients experiencing pain relief that lasted for days or weeks.

Fibromyalgia is a poorly understood condition that causes widespread body pain, fatigue, insomnia, brain fog and mood disorders. The FDA has approved only three medications for fibromyalgia, two antidepressants (Cymbalta and Savella) and a nerve drug (Lyrica), but many patients consider them ineffective.

Could ketamine be another option?

In better news, I feel GOOD today.

No pain at rest, just the uncomfortable sensation of having plastic boxes where my boobs used to be.

2/10 pain with movement.

Energy.

Lyrica (nerve pain med) and Celebrex (NSAID) and Tylenol on board, just in case, but no muscle relaxers or oxys.

My drains have less drainage than yesterday.

I’m even wearing a t-shirt!!

Now comes the hard part: I CAN’T OVERDO IT.

I want to bring the fan (6.8lbs) from the bedroom to the living room. I want to do dishes, with all those awkward reaches. I want to casually pick up Soba (10lbs) and give him a little kissy on his head. I want to walk super far. I want to DRIVE.

But instead I will find quiet, still, creative things to do between walks, and remember that I’m still only 9 days out from a major surgery.
