You ever get bored when Oswin is at school/working. If so, what do you do to try to entertain yourself? 🤔
Why of course I get bored! I get bored quite often to be frank. It's why Oswin encouraged me to make this blog so I had something to do.
But my blog isn't the only thing I do in my spare time, goodness no. I have a long list in actuality:
Writing. It's primarily for the Parable, though I do want to write other things at some point.
Learning Guitar. I have a question in my inbox about learning the song "Megalovania" so I will see if I can somehow learn the song to be able to show you all!
Watching shows. I haven't had any new shows to watch as of late however. I did watch the BBC 1996 adaptation of Pride and Prejudice that I quite love. I poked fun at Mr. Darcy quite a lot despite Oswin's favoritism over him. It was all in good fun I promise!
Perusing on the Internet. Of course I have this blog, however I do watch a lot of YouTube when the opportunity strikes me. Instagram occasionally though it's through Oswin's account since I have no need to make my own.
Playing Video Games. I've taken up Minecraft here and there and like playing it on certain occasions. Visual Novels too if they have good characterization and story. And the Portal games too, if you would believe it. I quite like a good Puzzle. Also, Stanley and Lynne have introduced me to the game Roblox. Which contains many games within it, however they are all made in the same engine if my memory serves me right. They mainly get me to play those Tycoon games. I consider myself to be an expert on money and how to make millions of of my product! (ex, The Stanley Parable and The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe) My Tycoons are some of the best I must say.
^An addendum to this however: They've tried to introduce me to this game with an evil pig called "Piggy". Suffice to say I have been utterly terrified and will never play horror games on Roblox again.
Chores. Oswin is busy most of the time, So if it's particularly bad I do my best to help around in the house, especially when Lynne and Stanley choose to live primarily in the Parable. Oswin always treats me to some treats and snacks in return for my services however, so it's not too bad. Though most of the time it's just Oswin cleaning around.
Gardening. In the warmer months I used to do a lot of gardening around the house. We used to have a lot of potted plants in the kitchen where I would tend to. However, due to a recent...rodent infestation we've had to take them out of the house. I do hope we can get more plants as the weather warms up.
Walking. In the warmer months, I like to walk around the neighbourhood and enjoy the scenery. I usually need someone else with me for this however, and most of the time its Oswin. But for the most part taking walks is part of my repertoire of things-to-do.
This list isn't expansive, as this is all I can think of at the moment. Because most of the time if Oswin has the energy to, he takes me around with him while he goes about his day. So I often visit his University alongside him. But this list only covers the things that I do either without him, or at home by myself. So I suppose I'll update this list should I ever gain another hobby. 🥰
#asks#tsp rp#tsp narrator#rp#(ooc: ive thought abt this a lot if you cant tell askjdh)#(and the last paragraph is kinda a lore reason why my little doodles/memes of me and narry out n about are canon)#(most of the time its just me going out so i take pics n make it canon to the lore skdjfksdhf)

Up to Chapter X (Triangle Strategy)
Spoilers below, as always!
I am up to Chapter X. Why does it feel like every vote since the one to give up Roland has been a choice between a Bad Decision and an Equally Bad Decision?
I really wasn’t sure about doing the smuggling or reporting Sorsley to Hyzante but I chose the first option because I felt like we could learn something about Aesfrost and/or Sorsley’s objectives?
I know it did lead me into a fight with those two bandits from early game and they did not play around. I was down to four members of my team before I beat Trish and the healer that kept restoring her HP. Not a fun time/map for sure. I was probably overconfident thinking the bandits would be easy.
(Roland, why are you so weak sauce even though I tried catching you up?)
After that...
We run into Svarog (Dragan’s father) and he’s asking us, really pointedly who murdered his son.
Is there a revenge plot on the horizon? I believe so.
Let’s just hope this guy doesn’t lead us into another Lord Landroi situation where he completely misunderstands Serenoa and company and I’m forced to fight him (I don’t think Frederica would like fighting her uncle very much.)
If this leads me down a path where I can take out Gustadolph, Erika and Thalas I’m all for a means to an end...
Believe me I have wanted payback ever since Chapter IV.
Now since I am on the internet avoiding spoilers is impossible but I have avoided most.
Without giving away too much...
“How close am I to finishing whatever path I’m on?”
“I heard there are bad endings. How easy is it go get one?”
I haven’t exactly decided the most honorable course of action (putting survival > honor) so... I might get a bad ending? I don’t know.
In the beginning of this game I didn’t think I would get attached to these characters. I now love all of them. I think pain is on the horizon...
That is all.
#Triangle Strategy#spoilers up to Chapter X#Hyzante Vote#smuggling vote#Lynn plays video games#Lynn gets Puzzled by video games#what ending am I heading towards anyways?#Oh dear oh my oh gosh#Although I am vengeful#Point me at the Aesfrosti already!#I have an axe to grind!

FUN FACTS ABOUT HER
She loves candles and burns one every night before she goes to bed. She has to set a reminder to blow them out or she’s afraid she’s going to burn her place down by accident.
She’s never driven in her life and doesn’t have her license. She’s only really lived in cities that have transportation systems, so she’s never had the need to get one.
She enjoys working out and playing sports, but she won’t play tennis ever again after fracturing her wrist when she was fifteen.
She wears contacts because her eyesight is awful. She’s a candidate for Lasik eye surgery, but she’s afraid of being awake during the procedure and having something so close to her eyes so she’ll just deal with wearing contacts or glasses.
She loves having her nails done, and you’ll rarely ever see her without nail polish on her nails. long or short, gel or acrylic, round or square – it doesn’t matter to her as long as they look good.
Chloe is spontaneous. She’s fierce, and she’s outgoing. She’s the type of person to be best friends with someone after one conversation. It’s very easy for her to trust people, but if they lose it for some reason, it’s insanely hard to get back. She’s very reliable; when she says she’ll be there, she’ll be there.
While she loves social media, she’s a terrible texter – often either forgetting to text back or otherwise taking ages to do so. She doesn’t like emojis much but will use them sparingly. She hates chatspeak.
She cleans when she’s stressed; but, there isn’t ever much mess to take care of. She is very keen on keeping her place clean and tidy as best she can. Being so frequently busy, though, it does sometimes get (by her standards) out of control. It’s never for long, though, and she’s quick to put everything back in its place.
She collects mugs. These don’t correlate with her choice of design aesthetic for her kitchen and Brownstone, but she has a bit of an addiction to them. They range from classy to kitschy. She always got a mug on her birthday from her grandmother.
If she wasn’t into climate and sustainability, she’d definitely be a fashion designer. She loves sketching, sewing, and making garments. A lot of the clothes she wears are actually made by herself. She tries to not shop fast fashion and wants to wear clothes that are sustainable and eco-friendly. She wants to get back into fashion sometime and enroll in a class, but enjoys where she is at right now. Perhaps now that she’s in Merrock, she’ll see if the community college offers any fashion courses.
Chloe has a very extensive skincare routine; as someone who loves beauty and playing with makeup, she puts great stock in her appearance and strives to have well-behaving skin.
She loves wrapping gifts. She takes great care in making sure her gifts look nice, because the presentation is just as important as what’s inside. She keeps a small stock of wrapping papers, gift bags, ribbon, and tags so that she can mix and match appropriately depending on the person. while birthdays are her favorite thing to do gifts for, the process of wrapping presents is her favorite part of Christmas.
She drinks coffee in the mornings. She’ll drink it during the earlier hours of the day as it helps her wake up. In the afternoon and evening, she’ll make a cup of tea as it helps calms her and puts her in a more relaxed mood.
Her grandfather used to restore old gumball machines and he would let Chloe sit at his work bench and help. He would give her little jobs and let her use his tools and paints to make her own ‘creations’.
PLOTTING FOR CHLOE!
An approximate timeline for Chloe!
From birth to age 8: Alexandria, Virginia
From age 8 to 18: Berkeley, California
From 18 to 22: Ithaca, New York - attended Cornell University
From 22 to 31: Manhattan, New York
From 31 to present: Merrock, Maine
Chloe is fairly new to Merrock, having only been here for a few months because of a job opportunity that she couldn’t turn down. She’s originally from Berkeley although she’d been living in New York City for the past few years before moving. As a result, almost everyone she meets in the windy city would be fairly new to her. Chloe doesn’t have trouble making new friends. She seems fairly high-strung and tightly wound, but most of that is from the pressure she’s put herself related directly to making her family proud and feeling like she wasn’t worthy of her fiance who was from a far more influential family than she was. She has a deep-seated need to succeed and she can get too wrapped up in that.
Once you get past that initial opinion of her, she’s actually a very warm person. She’s very friendly, the type to offer a stranger a compliment in the grocery store for no reason and really enjoys the process of getting to know people. She likes collecting friends although she’s happiest with a group of tight-knit people she can spoil. She takes joy in putting a smile on the faces of the people she cares about and helping them solve any problems they may have. She has a long streak of rationality and she’s empathetic which makes her a very good person to have by your side in a crisis. And to be honest, she loves being the supportive shoulder.
On the other hand, she can be very rigid. She has very strong opinions of people and holds onto snap judgments made until proven otherwise. She can be very single-minded, especially when it comes to the things she feels she needs to do and she can stress herself out about it. She’d really benefit from meeting someone who can counter this and pull her out of her head when she gets too stressed out, although she wouldn’t turn down any type of support system at this point.
Her love life should be fairly open and closed. Chloe was engaged to Barry, a young lawyer currently studying to be a lawyer. She had been with him since graduate school and they were engaged for a little bit before they broke off their engagement. She still loves him (she thinks) but their relationship lacked passion, although she’s attributed that to them being in a long term relationship with each other and both of them trying to kick-start their careers. She’s been openly bisexual since her teen years, so she has experiences with all kinds of people, she doesn’t really have a preference, it’s more about vibing with the person. However, she’s been thinking about how she feels more like herself when she’s with women. She’s been questioning her sexuality and if the reason she broke it off with Barry was because she wanted someone he couldn’t be.
She’s comfortable with the idea of being single now and she's not looking for anything, but she is open to one night stands as long as she can remember their name.
WANTED PLOTS
TROUBLESOME TRIO -These three are always seen with at least one another. You can call them Charlie’s angels, Destiny’s Child, or Phoebe, Rachel, and Monica from Friends. Something that resembles the trio’s of The Bold Type and Someone Great.
OLD FRIEND - Someone from her past that she reconnects with in Merrock. Maybe they met in college or when she lived in New York City? Or maybe even in high school? Just someone she meets again and they have a past, whether romantic or not, would be very cute and much appreciated!
PARTY BUDDIES - Whenever there’s a night out for fun, they’re together tearing it up. - RYDER
MUSICAL PAL - Whatever the occasion, they’re kicking back and playing some music together. They share playlists and their favorite artists with each other. Plus, they always tag along to concerts with her! - DARRIUS
SELF-CARE FRIEND - They can text each other when they’re in need of a pick-me-up and just indulge in some serious self-care and pampering. - STELLY
MIDNIGHT HOOKUP - They barely know each other’s names and yet when the clock strikes twelve, they’re a text away from hooking up and ditching before dawn.
Other than those, I’m very much open to plotting and brainstorming!

THE QUESTION I'M SURE EVERYONE IS WONDERING---- is sophie an Epic Gamer 😎🎮🏆✨✨ /hj
BUT LEGITIMATE QUESTION-- what kind of games do you think sophie would possibly pick up? otome games? fighter games? mmorpgs? do tell!
non-prompted ask | always accepting | @artificile
LYNN, -
Look at this face! This is the face of an epic gaymer. You should see the rig she has back home! Completely up with the times and probably is a part of a guild on FF.14 while maining as a astrologian.
Okay, all jokes aside: it’s just a rule of them that Sophie is genuinely disconnected from her current generation - no matter what the verse is, but she is always considered a little behind with the modern going-ons (even in those dated back in the medieval time).
In this regard, video games were kind of an odd thing for her - she certainly played one or two as a child but that was restricted severely when she was around the age of ten. Be it out of her own choice or someone else’s is the question to ask, but that was she was throwing herself in complete adamancy to master hatmaking, tailoring, and also ensuring the happiness and success of her sisters. With newly found responsibilities at such a young age, video games sort of become secondary to her and she relied more on her imagination and drawing to let the time pass by.
Does this mean Sophie doesn’t like video games? Quite the opposite! For a girl known for escapism and imagining herself as a different person altogether, the ability to insert herself into other stories or people is very compelling to her.
A lot of her preferred genres would be lore-heavy and reading-heavy, so that would be she would be a VISUAL NOVEL fan. I don’t think she’ll be quite a big fan of otome games, given her own feelings about romance. She doesn’t exactly want her ‘incompleteness’ right in her face when some character is trying to convince her about how else the world works.
She’s also the type who loves puzzles and problem solving, she will most definitely be having a hand on strategy games that go into into the J(RPG) genre. She doesn’t mind having a default MC or a developed one, but she certainly wants one where the character has a personality - even if it will be strikingly different than her own. Truthfully, all she wants to do is experience different things - emotions and events - because the life of the eldest daughter isn’t exactly ‘fortunate’ for her to have such chances.
I can also see her handling more light-hearted puzzles like the ‘I Spy’ variants on a mobile app to keep herself entertained (or help keep kids distracted if she’s caring for them). If you’re noticing a pattern, it’s always something having to do with the mind and it is something that she needs a lot of - a big ol’ distraction or a big output (like a game) where she can over-pour a lot of her mental energy into.
HONESTLY? Stuck with this headcanon for a while but Sophie’s got a lot of pent up physical energy with how cooped up she can be. If she can get her hands on any music video games like DDR (so think rhythm games, mainly) and be able to move around, that is VERY good for her. She enjoys them because she’s able to experience adrenaline and challenge herself together - keeping mind and body happy while also letting out all of this energy that tends to worsen her anxiety.
EDIT: Honestly? You can catch her playing horror games too if she’s very much needing a distraction. It’s sometimes better to deal with fictional horror than reality sometimes, so she definitely goes into games that aren’t as cemented in ‘real world’ horror. It gets a little too real for her before she has to turn it off and avoid triggering herself.

NO IT'S MY FAULT, i got confused by icon changes and am adrift on a sea of internet embarrassment. might one please pretend i always said ace attorney
NO WORRIES, i am always delighted to talk about ace attorney with the stipulation that i’ve only played/watched 1 through 4 and a few scattered cases of 5 and 6, no spin-offs
Favorite character: either trucy or ema?? also maya. i live a sidekick life.
Least Favorite character: get oudda here godot
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): phoenix/edgeworth, apollo/klavier, lana/mia, uh maya/fran. maya/lynne.
Character I find most attractive: lana......
Character I would marry: master maya is already my wife
Character I would be best friends with: literally any sidekick, i love them all
A random thought: i’ve always considered myself terrible at pretty much every kind of video game (hi gogol i gave up on my first 80 days run in a fit of despair and am starting again) but shu takumi games are mysteriously my one strength. i don’t think that means i’m particularly good at puzzle-solving or however you’d classify aa gameplay, but i am very good at following his particular logic.
An unpopular opinion: i wish mp100 crossovers focused more on the psychics!! you’d think that’d be the point!!
My canon OTP: does ace attorney even have canon ships. lana/mia.
Non-canon OTP: i know UNNECESSARY FEELINGS seems like it would be more on brand for me but it’s klapollo
Most badass character: as always, i object to this question.
Pairing I am not a fan of: get oudda here godot
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): i am FIRMLY pro-aj!phoenix, who i know is Controversial, but i will cop to why the fuck did he never say anything about thalassa. if this is answered in 6 don’t @ me.
Favourite friendship: NICK AND MAYA :( :( :(
#i guess i played the os port of 5??#i didn't have a 3ds yet but i clearly remember playing it not watching an lp#i got to the school case#blotthis#answer

As one of the best-selling consoles of all time, the Nintendo DS had a wide variety of games in its library. With the new features the DS brought to video games including the touch screen, the built-in mic, and the local Wi-Fi connection, DS games were able to try new things other games were still unable to do.
RELATED: 10 Ways To Get Started On Your Island In Animal Crossing New Horizons
Because of these innovations, many DS games like The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass still holds up to this day. Since these games were ahead of their time, players have a plethora of challenging and fun games to play that rival anything produced for the current generation of consoles.
10 Animal Crossing: Wild World
Animal Crossing: Wild World is part of the social simulation game series Animal Crossing that has the player control a customizable human who has just moved into a new village populated by anthropomorphic animals. Since the games are open-ended, players can choose how they spend their time, which includes collecting items and talking to the other villagers.
This game is significant because it introduced many gameplay features that would become mainstays of the series. For example, instead of the top-down perspective of the first game, this game has the sideways view that later games would continue to use. Also, the game introduced online play, which has remained a big part of the series.
9 Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney
Taking place seven years after the third main Ace Attorney game, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney is a visual novel adventure game where the player as a lawyer must solve mysteries to prove their client’s innocence. Apollo Justice is a rookie defense attorney who ends up working with the memorable main character of the previous Ace Attorney trilogy, Phoenix Wright, and his daughter, Trucy, to solve the old murder case that led to Phoenix’s disbarment.
Along with the regular cross-examining in the courtroom and the investigation sequences outside of it, this game also introduces some new ideas to the series. Since Apollo does not have Phoenix’s magatama, he instead has a bracelet that allows him to see small movements people make that give away their lies. With the wide cast of intriguing characters and a darker storyline, this fourth Ace Attorney game is absolutely worth a playthrough.
8 New Super Mario Bros.
A discussion about the best DS games is not complete without the number one best-selling DS game:Â New Super Mario Bros. In this 2.5D platformer, the player controls either the titular character Mario or his brother Luigi as they navigate through various worlds to save Princess Peach from Bowser and Bowser Jr.
As one of the best-selling video games of all time, it is no surprise that this game is hard to put down. The combination of simple gameplay with the variety of worlds to explore makes the game enjoyable and addicting. New power-ups such as Blue Koopa Shell added a new element to the gameplay. Also, movements from 3D Mario games, like the wall jump, were also added to enrich the experience.
7 Dragon Quest IX
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is an RPG released in 2009 that follows an entirely customizable main character who is part of an angelic race that lives in the sky called “Celestrians.” A catastrophic event occurs that sends the Celestrians plummeting to the mortal world, and the main character must find a way back to their former state while gathering lost fruits from the world tree.
RELATED: 10 Best Classic JRPGs Available On Switch
Along with the higher difficulty, this Dragon Quest game introduces many new gameplay features that make it worth playing. While keeping the traditional role-playing mechanics and interesting storytelling of previous entries, Dragon Quest IX introduces multiplayer functionality, plenty of customization options, and spawning enemies.
6 Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
Created by Shu Takumi, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is a 2010 adventure puzzle game that follows an amnesiac ghost named Sissel who has recently died. While traveling with a female detective named Lynne, Sissel uses his new spectral powers to perform “ghost tricks” in order to save lives and try to recover his memories before dawn arrives
Over the course of the game, the player will possess corpses in order to travel back in time to four minutes before the person’s death. During this period, the player can manipulate objects in order to affect what is happening and change the future. This creates an intriguing gameplay loop that will keep the player hooked from beginning to end.
5 Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is a tactical RPG where a 17-year-old male protagonist and his friends witness an outbreak of demons in modern-day Tokyo. During seven days, the protagonist, who gains the ability to see how long a person has left to live, must try to save as many people as possible.
Similar to other SMT games, the player can recruit demons as allies to fight other demons. In addition, gamers can see the enemies and must move the teams of characters strategically across the map to fight enemies in single turns, which is similar to games like Fire Emblem. With all the possible unique endings, the player will want to replay the game several times to fully enjoy what the game has to offer.
4 The World Ends With You
Produced by Tetsuya Nomura who also developed the Kingdom Hearts series, The World Ends With You is an action RPG that takes place in modern-day Shibuya and follows an amnesiac teenager named Neku Sakuraba who has recently died. With the help of several different companions, Neku must complete the week-long Reapers’ Game in order to have a second chance at life and not be erased.
RELATED: Kingdom Hearts 3 – 10 Secrets & Easter Eggs You Totally Missed
With a gameplay style specific to the DS, this game is a must-play for the console. Using both the touch screen and buttons, the player can simultaneously control the characters in both the top and bottom screens. In addition, the soundtrack and various outfits are all sourced from Shibuya’s popular culture at the time, creating a unique time and cultural capsule players will enjoy.
3 The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is an award-winning action-adventure game and a direct sequel to The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on the GameCube. The game follows Link as he travels between various islands using the ship S.S. Linebeck in order to save his friend Tetra from a life-eating monster named Bellum.
While the game contains the dungeon exploration and item hunting of previous Zelda games, this game is unique because it also has a large central dungeon, The Temple of the Ocean King, that the player must return to throughout the story. With the help of the Phantom Hourglass and other items, the player must use stealth to avoid the Phantoms in the temple. The game’s innovative gameplay and engaging storyline make it the best Legend of Zelda title to get a remaster for the Switch.
2 Sonic Rush
Before his departure from Sega, the father of Sonic, Yuji Naka, produced one more mainline Sonic game that many fans consider to be one of the best. Sonic Rush is a 2.5D platformer where the player can control either Sonic or a new character Blaze the Cat. These two characters work together to stop Dr. Eggman and his counterpart, Dr. Eggman Nega, from Blaze’s alternate universe.
Both characters show their own side of the story, have their own specific order of levels, and have their own special abilities. The game’s smooth gameplay, beautiful level designs, and introduction of Blaze make Sonic Rush one of the best Sonic the Hedgehog video games.
1 Pokémon: Black & White
As the second generation of Pokémon on the DS, Pokémon: Black & White consists of two RPG games where the player controls a teenager who travels across the Unova region in order to catch Pokémon, battle against other trainers, and defeat Team Plasma. The game focuses on the balance between humans and Pokémon.
Created shortly after Pokémon: Diamond & Pearl, this game has updated graphics and animations compared to its predecessors. With the game’s large amount of new characters and the darker storyline compared to other Pokémon games, it is no surprise that Pokémon: Black & White has remained a favorite that fans of the franchise continually revisit.

Monty Hall Zonked
7:06 PM, SEPTEMBER 30, 2017, BY JAMES GEMMELL (CNN) — Monty Hall, best known for hosting the game show ‘Let’s Make a Deal,’ died Saturday morning in Los Angeles, his daughter Sharon Hall said.
He was 96 years old and had been ill after suffering a heart attack shortly after his wife of almost 70 years died this summer.
“He was the greatest father on the planet … he was the dad who called every single night to see how your day was and never tired of hearing the details. He lived for his family,” Sharon Hall said.
Monty Hall hosted the first version of the popular game show, on which contestants dressed in costumes and often won prizes behind one of three doors. The show premiered in the mid-1960s and a version of the show starring Wayne Brady is still on the air.
AP Top News By LYNN ELBER — BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Monty Hall, the genial TV game show host whose long-running “Let’s Make a Deal” traded on love of money and merchandise and the mystery of which door had the car behind it, has died. He was 96.
Hall, who had been in poor health, died Saturday morning of heart failure at his home in Beverly Hills, said his daughter, Sharon Hall of Los Angeles.
“Let’s Make a Deal,” which Hall co-created, debuted as a daytime show on NBC in 1963 and became a TV staple. Through the next four decades, it also aired in prime time, in syndication and, in two brief outings, with hosts other than Hall at the helm.
An episode of “The Odd Couple” featured Felix Unger (Tony Randall) and Oscar Madison (Jack Klugman) as bickering guests on Hall’s program.
Contestants were chosen from the studio audience — outlandishly dressed as animals, clowns or cartoon characters to attract the host’s attention — and would start the game by trading an item of their own for a prize. After that, it was matter of swapping the prize in hand for others hidden behind doors, curtains or in boxes, presided over by the leggy, smiling Carol Merrill.
The query “Do you want Door No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3?” became a popular catch phrase, and the chance of winning a new car a matter of primal urgency. Prizes could be a car or a mink coat or a worthless item dubbed a “zonk.”
The energetic, quick-thinking Hall, a sight himself with his sideburns and colorful sports coats, was deemed the perfect host in Alex McNeil’s reference book, “Total Television.”
“Monty kept the show moving while he treated the outrageously garbed and occasionally greedy contestants courteously; it is hard to imagine anyone else but Hall working the trading area as smoothly,” McNeil wrote.
For Hall, the interaction was easy.
“I’m a people person,” he said on the PBS documentary series “Pioneers of Television.” ″And so I don’t care if they jump on me, and I don’t care if they yell and they fainted — those are my people.”
The game show gave rise to an academic exercise in which students are asked to weigh this question: In guessing which of three doors might conceal a prize car, and after one is eliminated as a possibility, should you switch your choice to the one you didn’t pick?
The puzzle sparked heated exchanges in Marilyn vos Savant’s Parade magazine column. (The answer to the Monty Hall Problem, Hall and others said, was yes, take the switch — but only if the contest is set up so the host cannot skew the results by offering some guests the chance to switch doors and not giving others the same option.)
After five years on NBC, “Let’s Make a Deal” moved to ABC in 1968 and aired on the network through 1976, including prime-time stints. It went into syndication in the 1970s and 1980s, returning to NBC in 1990-91 and again in 2003.
His name and show remain part of the language. Typical is the quotation in a 2006 Daytona Beach (Florida) News-Journal profile of a no-nonsense bail bondswoman who says, “I’m not Monty Hall and this isn’t ‘Let’s Make a Deal.’ ”
Hall also guest-starred in sitcoms and appeared in TV commercials. And with the wealth that the game show brought, he made philanthropy and fundraising his avocation. He spent 200 days a year at it, he said, estimating in the late 1990s that he had coaxed $700 million from donors.
His daughter Sharon estimated that Hall managed to raise nearly $1 billion for charity over his lifetime.
Another daughter, Joanna Gleason, is a longtime Broadway and television actress. She won a Tony in 1988 for best actress in a musical for “Into the Woods” and was nominated for Tonys two other times.
Born Monty Halparin in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada, Hall grew up during the Depression. In 1942, Hall was doing manual labor at the time when a wealthy stranger offered to pay for his college education on condition that he repaid the money, got top grades, kept his benefactor’s name anonymous and agreed to help someone else.
Hall only revealed the name of the late Max Freed about 30 years later.
Hall earned a degree from the University of Manitoba with the goal of becoming a physician. He was denied entry to medical school, Hall later said, because he was Jewish and faced quotas limiting the admission of minority students.
“Every poor kid wants to get into some kind of profession, and in my case I wanted to get into medicine to become a doctor. ... My dreams of medicine evaporated,” Hall said in a 2002 interview with The Canadian Press.
Instead, he turned to entertainment. He first tested his skills on radio and, after moving to New York in 1955 and later to Los Angeles, began working on a variety of television shows. Among the programs he hosted were “Cowboy Theater” in 1957, “Keep Talking,” 1958, and “Video Village” in 1960.
He joined with writer-producer Stefan Hatos to create “Let’s Make a Deal.”
The show’s roots could be found in “The Auctioneer,” a game show Hall hosted in Toronto in the 1950s. “The Auctioneer” was a “pretty pedestrian” program until the concluding 10 minutes, when he would barter with audience members, Hall told the Daily Herald of suburban Chicago in 2000.
“It was much more exciting than the first 20 minutes of the show,” he recalled.
Besides Hall, the hosts of “Let’s Make a Deal” were Bob Hilton (1990) and Billy Bush (2003). But it was Hall who was lastingly identified as “TV’s big dealer,” as the show put it, something he found at least mildly disconcerting.
When a People magazine interviewer suggested in 1996 that “Let’s Make a Deal” would be his epitaph, Hall replied, with a wince: “You put that on my tombstone, and I’ll kill you.”
However, Sharon Hall said Hall never refused an autograph and used his fame to help others.
His family’s financial circumstances and a childhood accident stirred that charitable desire, Hall said.
At age 7, he was severely burned by a pot of boiling water and endured a lengthy recovery.
“When you’ve been that sick, spent a year out of school, you identify with people who have these ailments and sicknesses,” he told the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post in a 2003 interview. “And when you grow up poor, you identify with people in need.”
Hall was repeatedly honored for his charity efforts, with awards including the Order of Canada, Order of Manitoba and Variety Clubs International’s Humanitarian Award. Wards were named in his honor at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia and other medical centers.
Hall and his wife, Marilyn Plottel, married in 1947. She died earlier this year.
In addition to his daughters, Hall is survived by his son, Richard; a brother, Robert Hall of Toronto, Canada, and five grandchildren.

Press Start Letter (2019)
Dear Creator-type, I’m so excited to have you join me in this exchange and I’m really excited for you to write or draw one of my prompts! I am happy with art or writing or any other medium you want to try. All my prompts are listed in no particular order and I would love any of them, or, indeed, anything using these tags that doesn’t match my prompts. I just hope you find something that speaks to you!
This time I think I’m especially about stuff that uses the logic of the world the canon is built in, plus a healthy dose of video-game logic, in new and interesting ways. For instance, magic in ways that the game wouldn’t or couldn’t let you do, or solving puzzles/mysteries in ways the game WOULD let you do but for unusual reasons. Basically, worldbuilding and video game trope-subversion, mixed with slice of life and just unusual situations. I look forward to seeing whatever you come up with... and hey, if we happen to match on a weirdo & pairing that’s even cooler!
I love unusual interactions between characters that canonically are close but there’s not a lot of exploration of why, and found family is one of my absolute favorite tropes. If you happen to match one of these weirdo “&” pairings, that’s amazing, let’s be friends if we aren’t already, and have fun writing or drawing the prompt if it catches your fancy! Let’s get to it!
LIKES: fluff of any sort, found family, regular family realizing they get along better than previously thought, friends-to-lovers, platonic or romantic relationships where the participants are each very different but appreciated anyway, AUs, fandom crossovers or fusions, bonding, taking a level in badass, slice of life, angst to happy end, hurt/comfort or plain comfort, missing in-canon moments, bonding and emotional support/intimacy, physical intimacy, lingering touches, loyalty, banter, worldbuilding, sensory details, unusual interactions, puns and wordplay OKAY WITH: 5+1 and similar formats, any tense, any amount of plot or none, heavy dialogue, no dialogue, character explorations, art depicting slice of life moments rather than poses DNWS: non-con, dub-con, unrequested ships, angst without a happy ending or at least some kind of resolution, infidelity, gore, angst with no resolution, underage relationships, non-canon children, disrespect of the holy & symbol
PROMPTS
Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective
I’ll be honest. I love this game; I love all the tags for this one and I love all the characters so anyone or anything you want to include (minus DNWs of course) is fine. Here are just a few specific prompts which can be combined in any configuration, in case you need a starter, but if you have your own thing in mind, as long as it follows the tags and my preferences, I’m OK with that too. I love surprises!
Alma & Emma
Alma & Sissel
Cabanela & Jowd
Cabanela & Kamila
Cabanela & Missile
Cabanela & Pigeon Man
Cabanela/Jowd (Ghost Trick)
Cabanela/Jowd/Alma
Jowd & Lynne & Memry
Jowd & Pigeon Man
Jowd & Sissel
Kamila & Amelie
Lynne & Memry
Lynne/Memry
Pigeon Man & Blue Doctor
Rindge & Lynne & Memry
Sissel & Missile & Lovey-Dove
Cabanela
Pigeon Man & Blue Doctor: They never met in canon, but like so many of the pairs in the cast (Cabanela & Jowd, Lynne & Memry, Sissel & Missile... you get the point) they are supposed to be foils for each other. It would be interesting to explore how they might approach the same scenario but with such different mindsets. Setting them as antagonists within this same scenario might be fun too.
Rindge & Lynne & Memry: The three young leading lights of the police force. Rindge knew both but Lynne & Memry didn’t know each other. What if they had to work together in their first big case as detectives? Could be post-canon or even alt-canon somehow. Love Jowd and Cabanela as bemused and slightly-terrible mentors so if you want to work them in that would be great.
Sissel & Missile & Lovey-Dove: Animals being adorable together. Maybe they have their own mystery to solve, and solving theirs incidentally solves a big case at the precinct? Or just hanging out with each other and their assorted humans. (Post or alt-canon)
Alma/Cabanela/Jowd: Cabanela’s got an immaculate postmodern loft with lots of metal and glass and white furniture. Someone comes in to clean and cook for him a couple of times a week. It’s where he stays occasionally. It’s not home… but for some reason the rest of the family has to stay with him for a while and he is reminded that home is not necessarily a place. Messy, fish-out-of-water situation all around. Pre-, post-, or alt-canon.
Cabanela & Kamila: Cabanela brings Kamila for a “Bring the Kids to Work” day and ends up needing her inventing expertise to solve a case.Of necessity, post-canon (but definitely not post-Kanon).
Lynne/Memry OR Lynne & Memry: Rivals to friends to lovers, two odd girls realizing each other’s oddnesses play to each other’s strengths? I’m OK with just stopping at friends if you’d prefer to keep it gen. I just love the odd ladies, OK. Post or alt-canon.
Some Fusion AUs we in the Discord have been kicking around. Any of the prompts above or indeed any of the tags can be slotted into these AUs and explored and I would be so, so happy:
Final Fantasy VI: It’s long and complicated but here’s the short version: King Jowd (Our Blitz and Sketch user) of Figaro was captured by the Empire five years ago, en route home from the catastrophic poisoning of Doma, with Alma, his Queen (who was originally from Doma and is our Samurai). Cabanela (Runic infused mage), who was the Vectorian ambassador to Figaro at the time, heard about the capture, and after sending Kamila to safety with a few old friends (Memry the airship captain and Cidgeon, who is a combination of Cid, Strago, and Pigeon Man), left immediately for Vector. From his point of view, it’s been three years. From Alma’s point of view, it’s been five, and he’s been around and terrorizing her, trying to make her give into the Empire. He’s got a magitek clone who’s gone mad with power (AND some dude who supposedly looks amazingly like him and sings opera). Sissel’s a half-esper. Lynne’s a treasure hunter. Bailey’s a moogle. Yomiel said “Screw it” and went and hid under a Zone Eater. Look, it works amazingly well, OK, and if you want to explore it, PLEASE BE MY GUEST. (For more information on this AU, you can check my series page!)
Final Fantasy X: Jowd’s a Summoner, Alma’s his Unsent Guardian, Cabanela’s a Zanarkand expat and Jowd’s Guardian. There’s probably time travel.
Trails Series: Cabanela’s a Dominion undercover as a dancer with Arc-en-Ciel. Jowd’s the new chief of police after the events of Zero no Kiseki. Alma is Cabanela’s Church-assigned Knight, likewise undercover somewhere in Crossbell. Jowd and Kamila were separated from the others after unfortunate circumstances surrounding Cabanela’s Stigma revealing itself and injuring Alma and Kamila badly. They meet again in Crossbell City after 5 years of fruitless searching...
Legend of Heroes: Trails series
This is another one where all the tags are fair game, plus you can add most any of the characters from the games themselves if you’d like. Because of the way they are interlocked, I am prompting all three major arcs together and you can pull from any and every time and place within the canon. I especially like the NPCs so if you want to add in NPC interactions, super cool. I am eagerly awaiting Trails of Cold Steel III’s English release, so no spoilers from there on please, but I have played all of the other games in the Trails series except Nayuta no Kiseki and Akatsuki no Kiseki. I am including some story starters from each major arc but if you have something else in mind, as long as it follows the tags and my preferences, I’m OK with it.
Trails in the Sky/Sora no Kiseki
Anelace Elfead
Aina Holden & Lugran & Jean & Kilika Rouran & Elnan
Estelle Bright & Cassius Bright
Estelle Bright & Kloe Rinz | Klaudia von Auslese
Estelle Bright & Olivier Lenheim | Olivert Reise Arnor
Estelle Bright & Tita Russell
Julia Schwarz & Mueller Vander
Kevin Graham & Ries Argent
Kloe Rinz | Klaudia von Auslese & Celeste D. Auslese
Kloe Rinz | Klaudia von Auslese & Julia Schwarz
Scherazard Harvey & Estelle Bright & Joshua Bright
Olivier Lenheim
Aina & Lugran & Kilika & Jean & Elnan: I like the idea that the Bracer Guild receptionists have a gossip network and working friendship, maybe over cards and dinner once every couple of weeks (although Aina is not allowed to bring the alcohol). Maybe something right before Kilika leaves her job with the Guild and heads to Calvard?
Estelle & Kloe: Best friends from two very different upbringings and with vastly different types of responsibilities and personalities, but they’re united in a need to see justice done and I love that. I like their Red Knight/Blue Knight imagery (with all the Japanese cultural baggage that entails) so maybe something playing on Kloe’s feelings of needing to abnegate herself for Liberl’s good?
Klaudia/Kloe & Julia: The princess and her knight. The two couldn’t have a more different dynamic than Olivier & Mueller but they have just as strong a bond. I think Julia harbors very strong feelings about her once-protégée -- it’s not romantic love, but not exactly familial either? Just strong, sincere platonic love for someone who she has to watch give her all over and over again and a wish to protect her from it if she could. I’d love to see Julia trying to protect Kloe who turns around and protects her from something in return.
Klaudia/Kloe & Celeste: Kloe loves knowledge in all its forms and Celeste is not only the virtual reenactment of her ancestor but the guardian of the knowledge of Ancient Zemuria. Bet your sweet bippy that Kloe did her best to get everything out of Phantasma that she could-- what might she have brought back from her time with Celeste and the wisdom of the ages?
Scherazard Harvey & Estelle Bright & Joshua Bright: Schera was basically Estelle & Joshua’s big sister and main caretaker in those days after Cassius brought Joshua home and was killing himself with work to ensure Liberl’s safety. Something from those days in Estelle’s childhood, perhaps?
Julia Schwarz & Mueller Vander: Royal retainers and bodyguards, called to do vastly more than the normal run of royal guardians might ever be asked. They’re tasked with working together quite a bit-- do they come to some private arrangements of their own?
Zero/Ao no Kiseki
Elie MacDowell
Cecil Neues & Ilya Platiere
Elie MacDowell & Tio Plato & KeA
Lloyd Bannings & KeA
Lloyd Bannings & Randy Orlando
Randy Orlando & Tio Plato
Rixia Mao/Ilya Platiere
Sergei Lou & Alex Dudley
Sergei Lou & KeA
Shizuku MacLaine & KeA
Wazy Hemisphere & Noel Seeker
Randy Orlando
Elie & Tio & KeA: KeA could use a little SSS girl-bonding time, especially after going to Michelam Wonderland in Zero. Elie and Tio would, I assume, wonder why she was down and do their best to cheer her up in their own inimitable fashions...
Shizuku & KeA: On the run with a man who has a lot to atone for and is frankly, still not entirely trustworthy to our main protagonists even though I believe he’d never purposefully hurt Shizuku or KeA... I'd like to know more about how the girls grow together while on their journey
Wazy & Noel: They joined the SSS and never quite fully integrated. Do they regret that, seeing the bond the SSS had before they came along? Maybe an evening during Zero where they talk about their conflicted feelings minus the others (but having to be guarded because of their vastly different motivations).
Cecil(e) & Ilya: Long-term best friends. I’d like something during Ilya’s time in the hospital, maybe exploring Ilya’s feelings about having to be STILL for the first time in a long time and how difficult it must be for Cecil(e) to nurse her in that condition.
Rixia/Ilya: Rixia is in love with Ilya, but I’m not 100% sure Ilya reciprocates, given she’s pretty much shown to be married to her work. Perhaps some good old-fashioned pining is indicated here, especially as it seems Rixia will not be able to continue with her work in Arc-en-Ciel for some time.
Elie: I just have a lot of feelings about Elie, OK, and I feel like she didn’t really get explored as much as I’d have liked in the Crossbell duology. She’s smart, brave, and politically-savvy and she’s constantly being asked to serve as secretary or assistant. She’s betrayed by her best friend but the SSS is there for her--even when she can no longer be there for them? I especially have a lot of feelings about Elie’s time locked in the mansion on Michelam during Zero and would like to see something exploring that. (Note: I don’t ship her with Lloyd or any other of the main cast so please don’t make that a main focus).
Trails of Cold Steel (Sen no Kiseki)
I’d like to note here that I do not care for Crow and I personally don’t see him as redeemable, so if you include him, please take that into account if you don’t mind. I’ve also been kicking around a headcanon that Rean and Crow’s somewhat uncanny persuasiveness and charisma is an inherent part of their Divine Knight abilities and tends to make people just that much more willing to go out of their way for them... possibly an outcropping of the events in Crossbell, retroactively. In Rean, a good-hearted hard worker, it manifests as kind leadership. In Crow, it manifested as something more sinister. Anyway, feel free to explore that with Rean if you like.
Elliot Craig & Fie Claussell
Emma Millstein & Laura S. Arseid
Fie Clausell & Instructor Beatrix
Instructor Makarov & Alisa Reinford
Mary Artheim & Elliot Craig
Mueller Vander & Elise Schwarzer
Oliver Lenheim | Olivert Reise Arnor & Alfin Reise Arnor & Mueller Vander
Olivier Lenheim | Olivert Reise Arnor & Alfin Reise Arnor
Olivier Lenheim | Olivert Reise Arnor & Mueller Vander
Olivier Lenheim | Olivert Reise Arnor/Mueller Vander
Principle Vandyck & Instructor Beatrix
Towa Herschel & George Nome & Angelica Rogner
Olivert/Mueller or Olivert & Mueller: I definitely ship these two but I’m OK with strong friendship of the Mueller-will-definitely-murder-Olivier-one-day-but-no-one-else-is-allowed-to-mess-with-him sort of way. I love that Muller still calls Olivert Olivier when in non-formal situations. I love their dynamic. I love them and want them to be happy. Now that they’re back in Erebonia, duty presses harder on both of them but quiet(?) moments in each other’s company are secretly cherished by both.
Mueller & Elise: As Mueller is Olivier’s guide and protector, Elise is Alfin’s in many ways. And since the the Emperor’s family is such good friends of the Schwarzers, I like to imagine Mueller takes a bit of an interest in making sure Elise is supported in that (after all, HE never gets any supprt but he can for sure make sure his Prince’s sister is protected to the best of his ability). Maybe a chat in Ymir or at some point after the rescue in CSII?
Emma & Laura: The two quietest, most serious members of Class VII are arguably the strongest respectively magically and physically in battle. I like watching them come into their own over the course of Cold Steel’s first two games. I’d like something set during their time in LEgram while Rean was indisposed, and them learning to trust and work with each other in a way that uses both’s strength’s to best effect.
Towa & George & Angelica: They were a quartet, the golden students who could do no wrong. Now they’re a trio and without Crow as a binding factor, their differences threaten to tear apart their friendship. Explore how their friendship changes and ultimately grows stronger in the wake of losing their fourth.
Fie & Instructor Beatrix: Beatrix is a certified badass and I doubt Fie would sleep in the infirmary all the time if she didn’t feel absolutely safe with her. I’d love to see something about how Fie came to that conclusion!
Instructor Makarov & Alisa: Makarov is Schmidt’s former disciple; Alisa is Gwyn’s granddaughter, yet here’s Makarov having to teach Alisa anyway and probably finding himself a little interested despite himself. What can Alisa teach him? What can she learn?
Instructor Mary & Elliot: Gentle instructor Mary probably worries all the time about equally gentle musician Elliot, since she seems to take a lot of care for her club attendees (Gaius notwithstanding, since he is more outwardly martial and definitely acts more assured about fighting). I’d like to see Elliot reassuring Mary he can do what it takes to protect himself and his ideals too.
Pyre
I would never have expected this game to grab and keep my interest as much as it has but I am absolutely weak for found family and this game has it out the ears. Kind moments and interactions, neat worldbuilding about either part of the world, and happy moments in amongst the sadness of losing each other: this is the quintessential Pyre experience for me and I want anything that gives me that feeling again.
Big Bertrude & Volfred Sandalwood
Big Betrude/Pamitha Theyn
Volfred Sandalwood/Tariq | The Lone Minstrel
Tariq | The Lone Minstrel & Big Bertrude
Tariq | The Lone Minstrel & Sir Gilman
Volfred Sandalwood & Sandra
Jodariel & Sir Gilman
Big Bertrude & Sir Gilman
Ti’zo
Bertrude & Volfred: Calm moments of friendship from the times after Rites have ended--I especially like Bertude staying but Volfred going so maybe just mutual remembrances of friends long gone. I would also be good with somehow combining this with the Volfred/Tariq and Bertrude/Pamitha tags - life goes on with new loves and new goals but true friends are connected always, something goopy like that...
Volfred/Tariq: Once upon a time, the moon fell in love with a tree. It sounds like a fairytale with absolutely inhuman participants and I love it. How and when does the tree notice and in what way might he begin to reciprocate?
Bertrude/Pamitha: Pamitha takes on guilt and Bertrude lives her life as free from that kind of moral dithering as she can manage. I like to think Pamitha’s attracted to that kind of freedom and Bertrude, in turn, comes to care for her broken bird in the long years of remaining Downside. Trust and affection turning to love is very very good.
Tariq & Bertrude: Tariq is very confused about his feelings for a tree, and Bertrude notices (post-chat with Volfred regarding her own feelings). She has some fellow-feeling but she’s a contrarian too...
Tariq & Gilman: A bard with the only concept of honor being the one the Scribes wrote into him and wyrm learning that honor is what you create... an exploration of this dichotomy would be fascinating...
Volfred & Sandra: I have a billion feelings about Sandra, and Volfred wanting bloodless emancipation for his people but not getting it for two important people in the Nightwings kind of slays me.
Jodariel & Gilman: She BIG, he slithery, she doesn’t give much of a crap for courtly notions of honor and to him its everything. How they get past it to consider each other family is my favorite consideration about this & pairing
Final Fantasy VI
I’ve spent more time thinking about Final Fantasy VI this last year than almost any other game and even after all this time, I still love the cast, the setting, the various unanswered questions, especially surrounding the War of the Magi, relics, and the Warring Triad. Any of these questions explored in context of prompts would be exciting.
Setzer Gabbiani
Cayenne Garamonde | Cyan Garamonde
Celes Chere
Edgar Roni Figaro & Setzer Gabbiani
Setzer: He was alone for so very long after he lost Darill and then he found people and a cause again. The loss of them strikes him more visibly hard than almost any other--we find him again drinking himself away in Kohlingen. A man of the skies tethered to the earth, but given freedom to fly again when his friends come back...
Cyan: What drove him to Zozo, of all places? Why THERE? Why Lola? Why flowers? His choices after the ruin of the world are baffling but I kind of love the mental image of him puzzling out how to make silk flowers, maybe remembering his wife trying to teach him something like that at some point...
Celes: Opera scene. Anything about the opera scene. Her feelings on going out to that giant, hot stage in huge poofy clothes and sing an aria with no training or prep... and yet she has the presence of mind to DO IT and well enough that people apparently didn’t ask for their money back. I’ve been fixated on this one scene for years and years and just... opera scene.
Edgar & Setzer: Something about these two so-called “ladies’ men” and their juxtaposition has always made me think that Setzer probably bonded fastest with Edgar as far as making actual friends in the party. Mechanics, women, gambling... any fun moment on the Blackbird before it all went to hell?
Lunar
These games are a treasured part of my gaming experience and I recently got to watch a friend play through the first one, so my love has been rekindled! I love that music is so important, I love the vast amounts of lore we never get to actually explore, all of it. I have played Silver Star Story Complete and Eternal Blue Complete, but not any of the other games, although I am aware of some of the lore introduced in them
Alex Noa & Nall
Dragonmaster Dyne | Laike & Ohro Noa
Jessica Alkirk & Mia Ausa & Luna Noa
Nall & Amelia & Cyan
Quark & Rubeus
Saria Noa & Luna Noa
Luna Noa
Goddess Althena
Alex & Nall: I’m especially interested in Alex’s life after the first game. I hope he and Nall stayed friends and in touch to the ends of his days (and that he FINALLY got Nall some fish). How about some reminiscences? Alex is old but Nall is still barely a baby in Dragon terms. They remember their adventures and Nall reassures Alex that the world is in good hands (claws) with him...
Laike & Ohro: While Alex is off adventuring, his parents are home fretting after him and Luna. It’d be nice to think that Laike visited them and reassured them. Does Ohro recognize his old friend? Does Laike allow the memory of their friendship to give him solace?
Jessica & Mia & Luna: Look, I want one thing, and that’s cool old ladies with cool old lady friends hanging out together. A shopping trip in Meribia, trying to figure out what to do about Vane, just a quiet moment in Burg-- I dunno.
Nall & Amelia & Cyan: The three survivors of Ghaleon’s machinations get together at some point after Luna and Alex have passed away, maybe to give Nall someone to grieve with, maybe to help Nall learn the skills he’ll need to go on with
Quark & Rubeus: On the flip side, these two didn’t make it, so let’s give them a memory of some happier times, maybe pre-Silver Star Story, when they were young and Althena was still around. OC Dragonmasters are OK for this one!
Saria Noa & Luna Noa: Saria’s just been handed a literal goddess to raise, and she’s more than up to the challenge but it’s a Lot. Did Luna’s latent powers ever still make occasional appearances when she was a baby? How did Alex react to suddenly getting a younger sister? Just give me the cute, OK
Luna Noa: This one goes kind of hand in hand with the next one, but Luna remembers being Althena, both good and bad. As she lives her life, what parallels does she remember with the past? What does she worry for the future?
Althena: What are Althena’s thoughts as the end of her divinity comes nigh? As she chooses to be reborn? Does she regret her lost chances? Or, being a goddess, does she have faith in her own ineffability?
In conclusion, thanks again for reading all of this (I know it’s a LOT and I really I am impressed at grateful at your fortitude!), and I hope it proved enlightening as to my general thoughts, likes, dislikes and wants for this exchange. You are so much appreciated!

22 percent of men without college degrees don't have jobs. Here's why they're being left behind
http://bit.ly/2HjIpwF
The job market is still tough for many Americans. AP Photo/Lynne Sladky
The unemployment rate has plunged to about the lowest level in half a century. Yet at least one group of Americans is being left behind: men who didn’t go to college.
Just 78 percent of men aged 25-54 who never went to college were employed in 2016, the latest year for which data are available in the American Community Survey. That contrasts with about 90 percent for those who have at least one year of college and is a big change from the 1950s, when employment rates for college and non-college men were the same.
What’s driving the employment gap, which has been with us for decades?
Economists have traditionally pointed the finger at what are known as demand-side factors, such as jobs moving out of the U.S. or robots. More recently, economists have been blaming the supply side, such as growing welfare payments and better video games that glue more men to their couches.
Supply side just means that the explanation has to do with the individual – the supplier of labor — as opposed to something related to a company – the demand.
My research attempts to get to the bottom of why non-college men aren’t working in hopes that it can suggest the right solutions to turn this around.
A recent study suggests video games are why some young men aren’t working. AP Photo/Kamil Zihnioglu
Employment vs. unemployment
One of the most important measures of an economy is the number of jobs it’s creating, typically measured by the unemployment rate. The latest jobs report, which came out on June 1, showed that the rate dipped to 3.8 percent in May, the lowest since 2000. If it falls any more, it’ll be the lowest since 1969.
But the unemployment rate doesn’t tell the full story because it only includes people actively looking for work. People who report not having looked for work in the previous four weeks are completely left out of this number. The employment rate, which is the share who are actually employed, captures the full picture.
And the numbers are stark. Back in the 1950s, there was no education-based gap in employment. About 90 percent of men aged 25-54 – regardless of whether they went to college – were employed. That began to change in the 70s and 80s as non-college men left the workforce.
The Great Recession was particularly painful for men without any college. By 2010, only 74 percent had a job, compared with 87 percent of those with a year or more of college.
In other words, employment rates diverged over 10 percentage points in just half a century.
The gap extends to the wages of those who actually had jobs as well. As recently as 1980, real hourly wages for the two groups were nearly identical at about US$13. In 2015, men with at least a little college saw their wages soar 65 percent to over $22 an hour. Meanwhile, pay for those who never attended plunged by almost half to less than $8.
Modeling the economy
In fact, wages reveal the answer to this puzzle.
In my analysis, which I’m planning to publish, I wanted to determine whether the widening employment rate gap was caused by factors related to the supply of workers — video games and welfare — or demand — trade and robots.
So I built and calibrated an economic model aimed at finding the answer. Just as an architect builds a model city to test out ideas, economists build model economies out of math. Models allow architects and economists alike to push aside the gory details of reality and cut to the gist of things.
They also allow us to run experiments on what would otherwise be untestable hypotheses. An architect might ask: If I build a balcony, will that compromise the building’s structural integrity? I asked: If the only things that changed since the 1970s were supply-side factors, what would have happened to employment rates?
To answer this question, I plugged employment, wage and other relevant data into my model so that it replicates the real world. I then ran different analyses on the model to try to learn things, such as the underlying causes of the fall in employment for non-college men.
The intuition is like this: If a significant part of the reason non-college men dropped out of the workforce was because of supply-side factors that allowed them to remain home yet still afford their lifestyles, companies would have had to pay them more to entice them to join the labor market. On the other hand, demand-side factors would have put downward pressure on wages.
That’s exactly what my model helped me identify, suggesting that all the blame goes to demand-side factors like trade and automation, not video games.
An important caveat with my analysis — and economic research in general — is that our models are not reality. Economists have to make tough judgment calls in hopes of approximating reality and teasing out underlying truths that are otherwise difficult to ascertain.
Work wanted
All the same, I think my work reveals some important truths.
While it is true that many non-college men are home playing video games, collecting welfare payments and, unfortunately, addicted to opioids, it’s by and large not because they are choosing these over a job. Rather, sadly, it’s because they couldn’t find a job in the first place.
The takeaway is if the government wants to get more of these men back into the workforce, it should focus on stimulating demand or helping people learn new skills.
Even though we know what the problem is, we still have a lot of work ahead to solve it and get these men back into the workforce.

10 things you need to know before baseball's opening day
yahoo
We’re just hours away from real actual meaningful baseball being played in 2018. If you’ve paid attention to every day of the MLB offseason, then you’re probably filled to your capacity with stats and storylines and projections.
But if you need a catch-up — if you’ve been off monitoring the NBA or binging Netflix shows, and aren’t 100 percent up to date on every single thing that happened between Game 7 of the World Series and this very moment — you’ve come to the right place.
[Still not too late to join a Yahoo Fantasy Baseball league]
Below are 10 big things you need to know before opening day. If you’re excited and would like to keep reading, you’ll find our collected MLB previews for 2018 after that. Happy baseball season!
Be scared: Giancarlo Stanton is playing for the Yankees now. (AP)
1. Giancarlo Stanton is on the Yankees now In case you hadn’t heard. Or had been living under a rock. Or had been sleeping since the day after the World Series. (If so, you might want to check your privacy settings on Facebook too, friends). And, yes, that sound you hear is American League East pitchers sitting in the corner and sobbing at the prospect of having to face Stanton and Aaron Judge in the same lineup.
2. New faces in new places The free-agent market was what you’d call Bartolo Colon-running-the-bases slow. Most of the big names are now playing in new places. There are a few people still looking for jobs (more on them in a sec) but you can ace your opening day trivia contest by memorizing this list:
Yu Darvish = Chicago Cubs Eric Hosmer = San Diego Padres J.D. Martinez = Boston Red Sox Jake Arrieta = Philadelphia Phillies Lorenzo Cain = Milwaukee Brewers Alex Cobb = Baltimore Orioles Wade Davis = Colorado Rockies Jay Bruce = New York Mets Lance Lynn = Minnesota Twins Carlos Santana = Phillies
3. The unemployment line is pretty talented The remaining free agents can certainly help some teams out there. As injuries occur or teams get off to bad starts, we might see them get signed. Until then, the list of players looking for jobs includes: Greg Holland, Jose Bautista, Matt Holliday, Brandon Phillips, J.J. Hardy, John Lackey, Melky Cabrera. Who gets snatched up first? We’ll see.
Shohei Ohtani has all the hype this season, but will he deliver? (AP)
4. The Shohei Ohtani Show is here By far, the most fascinating new player in MLB this season is Shohei Ohtani, the Japanese import who is trying to play two ways as a pitcher and DH for the Los Angeles Angels. He’s 23 and had the tools to throw 100+ mph and launch big homers in Japan, the question is whether that will carry over to MLB. So far, the spring training results aren’t encouraging. He’s been a better pitcher than hitter, but neither has been excellent. But it seems like the Angels are going to give him every chance to succeed.
5. The Houston Astros are favorites to win the World Series — again Can the Astros become back-to-back champs? The gambling industry seems to think so. According to the most recent odds from online sportsbook Bovada, the Astros are favorites to repeat (17/4), followed by the Dodgers (5/1), the Yankees (13/2) then the Cubs and Indians (both 15/2).
6. There’s a limit on mound visits now As part of MLB’s new pace-of-play rules for 2018, there’s a limit of six mound visits per game now. It counts for managers, pitching coaches, catchers and other players. It’s caused a bit of a hubbub around baseball, especially between pitchers and catchers in an era where signs are getting more complex. Teams have plenty of questions about how this will be applied in real time. It seems like another of those things that will get fine-tuned as the games go on. The application of the rules will be something to watch.
7. Every MLB stadium has extended its netting. Some fans will, inevitably, be upset that their views are a little more constricted. But everyone will be safer.
Alex Cora is the Red Sox manager after winning a World Series with the Astros. (AP)
8. We’ve got a few new managers this year Aaron Boone jumped out of the ESPN broadcast booth and now is the skipper of the Yankees and he’s not the only new manager in MLB. Alex Cora left the Houston Astros staff and is the Boston Red Sox manager. Dave Martinez is hoping to get the Washington Nationals over the hump. Mickey Callaway, who oversaw the Cleveland Indians’ pitchers, is now hoping to get the most out of the New York Mets pitching staff. Gabe Kapler is leading the rebuild of the Philadelphia Phillies and Ron Gardenhire is back with the Detroit Tigers.
9. A-Rod has a new job Speaking of the ESPN booth, Alex Rodriguez is headed there now that Aaron Boone is managing the Yankees. Think about that: A-Rod, now holding down one of the biggest broadcast seats in baseball. What a turnaround it’s been.
10. Free agency will be the undercurrent of this season Yes, we have 162 games ahead for each team, a postseason still to play and a World Series winner to crown — but you’re probably going to hear about next year’s free-agent class every day. It’s loaded, and many of its entrants play a big part in the season ahead. We’re talking Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, Josh Donaldson, Charlie Blackmon and potentially even Clayton Kershaw. The storylines abound: Can Harper and the Nats get over the hump before he possibly jets? Will Machado or Donaldson get dealt if their teams can’t keep up with the Yankees and Red Sox?
How about a little more? If you’ve read this far and want to keep going, here’s a full rundown of all the Yahoo Sports MLB preview coverage for 2018. Come back on opening day for a full-day, second-screen experience with Yahoo Sports writers talking baseball from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
