Y’ALL I JUST FOUND SOMETHING WILD:
I figured this out by pure accident because musically, I’m not a big fan of Tori Amos’s singing style (I’m sorry 🙁, besides the point though!), so I pulled up the original instead to put on my playlist.
And GUYS. I don’t think “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” is about them at the Ritz together in the 21st century, or at least not at first…
It’s about this.
“A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” originally came out in 1940 by Vera Lynn, one year before Crowley pulled the most romantic ass stunt Aziraphale had ever seen and, let’s be honest, the vibes uh… changed. I mean there was a reason the rumor of them being an item spread in hell around this time.
And that’s not all, the song was actually meant to be part of a musical, on the West End. The place where they made a fond memory together for the first time in nearly a hundred years, took care of each other, trusted each other. Hell, where Crowley and Aziraphale, both friends of the theatre in different ways, probably heard this song about causing the impossible and falling in love just a year prior for the first time.
Yah so I’ve FULLY drank my own koolaide and completely believe that they already associated this song with each other. Not only saw it as a fond reminder of that night in 1941, but the quiet, gentle reality they might have together someday. But they wouldn’t DARE say that out loud, wouldn’t be ridiculous enough to let themselves hope for it.
I think this was Aziraphale breaking the unspoken rules and acknowledging this thing they share. Him saying “I know, I see you. I hope so too.”

Creating your own audio book (Cover Reveal for Urban Punk audio book)
I’ve been working on Urban Punk recently, to publish it and release the audio book at the same time. I’ll admit, audio is still the most difficult part. Even if you believe you have a good audio setup, it’s probably not good enough. At least I know in my case, using the budget setup that I have, I’m not going to get perfect audio. I don’t have a professional microphone, at least not for…

She will not return with anything new because she has nothing left to beg, borrow or steal. She never really identified with any of the musical styles or aesthetics she’s adopted- the enchant sound was leftover classical inspo form her music school, Tori Amos/fiona Apple, and her fairy aesthetic was taken from her mothers costumes. The goth/punk/victorian aesthetic from Opheliac was stolen from Ophelia Rising and propped up by Vecona. Her industrial sound in that era was inspired by her boyfriends, Brendon Smalls and Billy Corgan. The traumatized, angry woman thing was ripped from Courtney Love, down to the styling and content of TAFWVG, taken straight from Courtney Loves book. FLAG and the musical obsession? Taken straight from Darren Lynn Bousman. Compare the FLAG hair and costume to the Painted Doll styling. Of course all she had left was alibaba drop shipped merch and AI art. She doesn’t have anything that’s hers. She can’t make anything new.

So I've listened to multiple versions of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" and each one has a very different vibe. I'm gonna list them down here, just because this has been in my head for a while:
Vera Lynn (the original 40s version): telling the girlfriends about the guy you met and swearing he's "the one"
Glenn Miller: two lovers reunite after the war
Nat King Cole: dreamy honeymoon
Frank Sinatra: bittersweet flashback after it didn't work out and you had to go separate ways
Bobby Darin/Michael Bublé: teenage love, going on a carnival date
Tori Amos (from Good Omens): wedding
I enjoy all of these but honestly my favorite ones are Miller, Sinatra, and Amos
Just wanted to put this here. It's a good song (I'm so lonely tho man)

At Least When You Cry Now, He Can't Even Hear You (Sad Girl Cento)
Is that why they call me a sullen girl—sullen girl? Boy I think you're confused, I'm not Persephone. I don't want to look, but I'm already hooked on jealousy. Can't forget the things you never said—and you've decided to love me for eternity. Sometimes I feel deceived, and I weep at your feet. My ever present suicide, my grief, my grief, my grief, my grief. My grief, I've wished on the lidded blue flames under your brow. Birds that scream for territory can learn to sing: dear God. Life ain't kind—I can feel it in my bones. Even when I was seventeen, prettiest mess you've ever seen, I'd a terrible broken heart. I wake up in the night, my stupid fuck, my blushing bride, I saw hips, I saw thighs wrapped around your feet, wrapped around like good little roses. You've done nothing so far but destroy my life. Breathless and torn, all drunk on my love, I want your warm but it will only make me colder when it's over. Foam can be dangerous with tape across my mouth. And it rains and rains—but it's calm under the waves, in the blue of my oblivion.
—Jessie Lynn McMains, from forget the fuck away from me (spring 2019)

🔊 John Egan and Buck Cleven (individually and as a couple)
WELL i literally just realized the ask meme only asks for one song for each person and i've been answering with five this whole time...but i've thought too much about this whole list of an answer so
john egan:
daredevil - fiona apple if i were to make propaganda for this as a john/clegan song i would just have to print out the whole song. listen to it. you know.
i'm your man - leonard cohen
i wanna be yours - arctic monkeys
gloomy sunday - artie shaw feat. pauline byrne for his grieving widow era <3
and half life
gale cleven
bombshell blonde because i think i'm hilarious and he's a literal LITERAL bombshell blonde. and it wouldn't be a playlist by me if i didn't include some ridiculous pop songs
i won't back down - johnny cash he seems like a johnny cash kind of guy
farewell daddy blues - margot bingham because this is a gale cleven electra complex daddy issues TRUTHER *AND* boardwalk empire stan blog
babooshka - kate bush yes this song has nothing to do with buck but babooshka era buck <3
and i can't think of a fifth one
clegan:
we'll meet again - vera lynn and
it's been a long, long time by kitty kallen both of these for their reunion era and because the concept of wartime songs and clegan makes me weak
tori amos' cover of you belong to me because it has a nice close-enough vintage sound but the lyrics are kind of cutely possessive and territorial (bucky coded. fly the ocean in a silver plane see the jungle when it's wet with rain just remember til you're home again you belong to me)
i see you - phoebe bridgers. mr john "i don't feel anything" egan feels something when i see you (buck) now!!!! if you're a work of art i'm standing too close i can see the brushstrokes! i hate your mom (dad)
savior complex - phoebe bridgers yes i'm being one of those people who puts multiple phoebe bridgers songs on a playlist BUT bucky's a vampireeeeeeee he wants blood and you promised and gale's a bad liar with a savior complex! all the skeletons you hide show me yours and i'll show you mine!!!!

I'm almost sure somebody's made a post like this before, so forgive me, but it's literally been all I can think about for days now and I have to tell someone so...
I was listening to A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square on loop the other day, first the Tori Amos version, then Vera Lynn's and I noticed, for the first time, that the Vera Lynn rendition has several verses which are missing in the one used in GO. And while it's probably just a stylistic choice to leave them out, I can't help thinking that the original lyrics of the last verse in particular would be so, so, so good at the end of S3.
Picture this: It's the final scene of S3. We see Crowley and Aziraphale walking slowly in their garden. Everything's pretty and green and washed in golden sunlight.
And then we see their cottage. There's a little gate, perhaps, and a garden path lined with plants up to the door. they enter the gate, bickering over something small and unimportant, the flowers for their garden, maybe. IDK. It doesn't matter. They can be holding hands during this, if you like. And, as the door closes behind them for the last time, we hear their song drowning out their little squabble with these lyrics:
When dawn came steaming up all gold and blue,
To interrupt our rendezvous,
I still remember how you smiled and said,
Is that a dream or was it true.
Our homeward step was just as light
As the tap dancing feet of Astaire,
And like an echo far away,
A Nightingale sang in Berkeley Square.
And there's a Nightingale singing in the background for good measure, of course.

I've risen here to rant about the different versions of A nightingale sang in berkeley square.
Soundtrack version, not bad 6/10 not amazing but not horrible either. Sad though :(.
Vera Lynn (we'll meet agian) decent 7/10 very similar to above.
9/10 my favorite probably because it's the least sad, it's a lot more..happy I guess.
1/10 I hate it, the long held out parts aren't there and it just sounds strange.
"No nightingales" - a.j. Crowley
