Sampo… more like, Hoyoverse rant… thingy..? Idk what to call this

So this random thought popped up in my brain at 5 in the morning after I watched Mina and Molly (Seele’s va)’s stream where they ranked HSR characters, and they said some things specifically about Sampo that got me thinking.

Hoyoverse always makes sure their characters are marketable, or at the very least likeable enough. even in cases where their characters end up being unused or straight up become a punching bag for the community it’s usually never because that’s what the company intended to do.

I find it very odd how Sampo specifically doesn’t meet any of their criteria of character making. He’s not particularly hot (he is the hottest character) or to be more specific he’s not the same type of hot as Jing Yuan or Blade for example that would have a lot of people fangirling over

He’s not really “cool” (he’s the coolest character) in the same way Blade or Dan Heng are cool, enough to get people invested in him.

He’s deliberately created to be unlikeable, it feels like Hoyoverse made him this way on purpose which just feels so… unlikely for them to do.

In fact, like Molly said, he’s not like anyone Hoyoverse has ever made, I mean I’m very glad that Sampo is actually so special, they managed to create such an outstanding character with him, but I also have to question why?

I know silly goofy man is technically what his fans like about him the most but in the grander scheme of things if you really take a look, Sampo is one of the least liked characters. there’s so little attention being given to him by HSR fans especially in comparison to other characters like Jing Yuan, Dan Heng, Kafka, Welt yada yada, and I know they’re like main characters but still… heck I would argue characters like Qingque are more popular than Sampo come on.

My point still stands that Hoyoverse seems to want to make him dislikable on purpose, which is a behavior so opposite of what they typically do. they must have a good plan for him. I refuse to believe otherwise.

I really really hope the rangers apprentice movie/show is a show. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll take literally whatever I can get!!! But knowing the way the series is written, how the characters develop, just the kinda vibes, it would make more sense for it to be a series yk? Number one, more content, number two, more opportunities to become even MORE attached to the characters, and each book could be a season. If you think about book 1, it wouldn’t make much sense for it to be a movie on its own, at least in my opinion. Like I said, I’ll literally settle for anything, these are just my thoughts
