“Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds” recording session, 1967; photos by Henry Grossman.
“I liked ‘Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds’ a lot. John always had a way of having an edge to his songs. I particularly liked the sounds on it where I managed to superimpose some Indian instruments onto the Western music, Thgere were specific things that I had written, like ‘Within You Without You,’ to try to feature the Indian instruments, but under normal circumstances that wouldn’t work on a Western song like ‘Lucy’ which had chord changes and modulations (whereas tamboura and sitars stay in the same key forever). I liked the way the drone of the tamboura could be fitted in there.” - George Harrison, The Beatles Anthology (2000)
“[I]f you listen to ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds,’ you’ll hear me try and play the melody on guitar with John’s voice, which is what the instrumentalist does in Hindustani vocal music.” - George Harrison, Guitar World, 1992
Q: “The song [‘I Want To Tell You’] marked a turning point in your playing, and in the history of rock music writing. There’s a weird, jarring chord at the end of every line that mirrors the disturbed feeling of the song. Everybody does that today, but that was the first time we'd heard that in a rock song.” George Harrison: “I’m really pleased that you noticed that. That’s an E7th with an F on the top, played on the piano. I’m really proud of that, because I literally invented that chord. The song was about the frustration we all feel about trying to communicate certain things with just words. I realized the chords I knew at the time just didn’t capture that feeling. So after I got the guitar riff, I experimented until I came up with this dissonant chord that really echoed that sense of frustration. John later borrowed it on Abbey Road. If you listen to ‘I Want You (She’s So Heavy)’ it’s right after John sings ‘it’s driving me mad!’ To my knowledge, there's only been one other song where somebody copped that chord — ‘Back on the Chain Gang’ by the Pretenders.” - Guitar World, 1992 (x)

Coming Soon:
Strawberry Wine (Penelope Garcia x Reader)
If the power had not gone down, you never would have met.
You had been in the middle of a what type of cat am I? quiz, having just hit the results button when your laptop crashed.
You tried switching it back on but nothing worked, not even aggressively shaking it over your head.
“Again?” You muttered; technology and you did not exactly coincide.
That’s when the lights flickered off.
You marched towards your apartment door and pulled it open.
And then you saw her, the most beautiful girl you’d ever laid eyes upon.
She was stood in what you assumed was her doorway, opposite yours, frantically typing on her phone.
She hadn’t noticed you yet. Or so you thought, Penelope’s heart was racing the second she’d noticed you exit your apartment.
She’d liked you for a while actually.
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (Spencer Reid x Reader)
You didn’t know how you ended up sat overlooking the sea with that one guy you never really spoke to at work.
Steven Reece, you thought his name was. No, no - Spencer. Spencer Reid.
The tall, handsome and obnoxiously smart man from the Behavioural Analysis Unit.
He worked on the floor above you at Quantico, and, despite your devastatingly brief encounters in the elevator every Monday and Thursday morning, you had never spoken before today.
It’s quite strange, now that you thought about it, as his arm snaked around your waist, pulling you closer against him.
Your head rested on his shoulder.
You both stared forward, counting the stars in the sky.
“I’ve never seen the sky this clear before,” you remarked.
Cassiopeia was above where you were sat on the old sea wall.
In your peripheral you could see Spencer gently turn his head to stare at you.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?”

what's your current favourite song and what colour do you associate with that song?
Hmmmm tricky. I've really been loving Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds recently. I don't have a specific colour, but the song is like... Transparent? Like a bunch of colours, but as like glass. Maybe the kaleidoscope or several other glass/ clearish materials referenced.¯\_(ツ)_/¯. The whole song feels like I'm looking through a window into a new, colourful world, like stained glass
