I cosplay her like that, and my personal headcanon is that the glasses she spent a hundred years with broke during her trials in Suffering Game, and the guilt of everything kept her from replacing anything else in her life. She’s just like me fr (blind as Madam Director)

I love the art where young Lucretia wears glasses while her older self doesn’t, because it implies that she either found fantasy contact lenses or she pretended she needed glasses for 100 years

i originally Hated that they changed taako's costume to ross from friends in the graphic novels

like i get that they'd change it from what it was in the podcast bc that one doesn't make much sense without justin's explanation

but ross from friends??? that's such a painfully boring choice. and like it would be funny in a "taako put zero effort into this and is just wearing clothes he already owned" way but most of those items look nothing like the other clothes he owns and would normally wear

BUT i have come up with a headcanon that makes it Good again:

all of those clothes used to be lup's.

(like, lup would absolutely not wear that whole outfit, but each individual article of clothing looks like something she'd wear. a red sweater, a plain button-up shirt and tie, a leather jacket, bluejeans. i could see her rocking all of those with different outfits.)

taako borrowed/stole them from his sister, and they were with the rest of his clothes when lucretia voidfished him/gave him a new life, and lucretia accidentally gave them to him with the rest of his normal clothes

so taako, seeing that he owned clothes that were not his usual style but fit him perfectly, but could not remember where or why he got them, just assumed "huh, i must have bought these all as a costume at some point"

when she comes back and finds out about this, lup is going to roast his ass MERCILESSLY for not only haven stolen her clothes for a DECADE, but for mistaking them as a ROSS COSPLAY

("well lup, if you didn't want your clothes to be mistaken for a ross costume, you shouldn't own clothes that ross would wear" "you're not supposed to wear them all TOGETHER, taako. besides, clearly you liked them enough to steal them from me for so many years" "it was cold and all my warm clothes were in the laundry. i was gonna return them soon but /someone/ erased my memories")

Welcome to the Overworked Blorbo Battle Preliminary Round!

Many characters were submitted for this tournament so, in order to allow as many different blorbos into the bracket as I can, I’ve had to limit them to one per series. For most, i just included the most highly submitted character but there were a number of series with characters who had the same (or very similar) number of submissions. Therefore, I’ve created a preliminary round for you to vote on which character from each series gets to enter the bracket.

There will be 37 polls lasting 1 week each.

The polls will be separated into 3 waves. Each wave will be posted 24 hours after the previous.

The first wave will begin on Tuesday the 27th of June at 3PM BST

I've tried my best to only include official images for all of the characters on the polls but I'm not familiar with every series listed so, when the polls go up, if you notice I've used a fanart or cosplay image without permission or credit please let me know and I'll add credit and correct it for any future appearances of that character.

Top 10 Fandom Moments

I am trying to figure out how to interpret this, because I don't think I have been doing fandom long enough to have 10 moments that are important to the whole of whatever fandom, buuuuuut I do probably have 10 moments in fandom that are personally important? so let's do some kind of mix of those two things

The first thing I thought of: The Adventure Zone Balance finale, which I listened to over discord with friends, and it's the first time I've ever experience a media moment like that, and it remains incredibly special

Somewhat related: the Stolen Century reveal, which is the moment that I had my "you can't tell me that DIDN'T happen" experience, that led to me writing hundreds of thousands of words of fic

The first time someone beta'd a fic for me; I don't think we are mutuals anymore, but it was such a great experience having someone read my writing and offer help to make it better.

Similarly, and not long after, the first time that Ryn messaged me, and maybe more importantly, the time they messaged me and said "do you want to be a mod on this discord server I'm starting" and I basically said "sure what's discord"

This question has me thinking about fandom-like experiences when I wasn't actually in fandom, and the one that came to mind first was going to see the Lord of the Rings movies, especially the last one, on opening day, at the Seattle Cinerama, where the audience was full of people in costume, and people were cheering. (Goddamn, the moment when Eowyn pulled off her helmet? AMAZING, the shouting from the audience.)

The day that Ryn and I wrote the boss fight scene in The Reckoning Arrives, or at least a substantive chunk of it. Mostly I wrote it in a Starbucks across the street from my divorce lawyer's office. (Close runner up: the day that Ryn messaged that she'd written a scene from the POV of our OC in that fic, and it was so beautiful, and it was so very much for me going forward in that next phase of my life.

The first time I ever went to a con, and I did cosplay for it, and having artists recognize my Lucretia costume, and meeting @faintvox for the first time, and buying art, including a sticker that is now one of my tattoos

The day they announced the second season of OFMD! One of those joyful wild tumblr experiences, I'm so happy I was here for it.

The first time I read Water Flowing Underground, which both kinda melted my brain and also led to so many other things in my life.

The watch party I went to for those first three episodes of S2, and like the Balance finale, being among people who were Into It, but in person this time, and also being supported when I had a complete meltdown at the end of 2x3 when it was so hugely triggering (because it was done so well).

TAZ for the fandom ask? (I don't know much about TAZ but I wanna hear you talk about it!)

i am kicking my feet i fucking love taz balance (which is the only taz i remember well enough to do this for)

The first character I first fell in love with: I got into TAZ cause of people’s cool Taako cosplays so you know it’s chaboi

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Lucretia maybe? I just have a lot of feelings about her.

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: i mean this not in a “i hate him eugh awful” but I Just Don’t Care For Barold. he’s fine! i just don’t care for him.

The character I love that everyone else hates: i’m not in touch with fandom enough to know who is hated, but i know there’s some folks who really hate lucretia, but like. i love her.

The character I used to love but don’t any longer: doesn’t really apply? i love all of them

The character I would totally smooch: So many of them my dude but primarily Lup, Lucretia, and Julia

The character I’d want to be like: As above Lup and Julia but swap out Lucretia for Magnus (please know that i am a fat buff lup truther because two thin twins is overrated and overdome)

The character I’d slap: i don’t think i have one, they’re all stupid and that’s kinda the point, and slapping john hunger… doesn’t really do anything?

A pairing that I love: we a lupcretia household to the point that hitchhikers started out as a lupcretia au idea! i just think! them!!!

A pairing that I despise: i don’t think i really despise any of them? despise is such a strong word man.

ok fellows. Here's the story.

Three years and some change ago I found an animatic that blew my MIND.

It's this one actually.

This was what introduced me to TAZ. I had no idea what was going on but the characters looked really nice and the emotion was high so I went "well boy oh boy I gotta listen to whatever this is from" and well... It was disorienting to go from this to episode 1 and the chaos of the start. I had no idea how much of a spoiler this animatic was. I had no idea. I spent the whole podcast in a strange limbo between knowing nothing about the story and knowing that Taako's sister Lup exists and was inside the staff. It was an odd existence.

And so ya. I knew. I wasn't Lucretia. I didn't know what was going on. I didn't know. But I did know that Lup was imprisoned in the umbra staff. I was painfully aware every time that he mentioned growing up alone that that wasn't true. I just didn't know why HE didn't know.

To hear the audio from this finally come up in the podcast after months of listening, it was an extra wave of nostalgia and relief.

It's been three years since then and I'm still just as obsessed with this podcast. I'm in the process of making a Taako cosplay. I own the comics. I made friends because of our shared obsession with this franchise.

Please give this animatic more love. It deserves it.

to me, the most fascinating (and utterly unintentional) feature of TAZ Balance's narrative structure is the way that on the first listen, Tres Horny Boys are the audience surrogates because they, much like us, have no idea what the fuck is going on, but on all subsequent relistens, then Lucretia, and sometimes Barry, and arguably especially Lup in the umbrella become the new audience stand-ins, because just like us, they are, in fact, painfully aware of what the fuck is going on :)
