Hiyoko Tosaka: human girl dating birds. extremely strong. the way she speaks is also hilarious. i love her.

Lucette Riella Britton: I really like her as a protagonist because she's not your typical romance visual novel mc girl just ready to fall in love once the initial conflict has been sorted through (which I'm not shitting on btw, I love those MCs too). I like an MC who is headstrong and independent and it takes them a while to fall in love because they're too focused on their goal to worry about romance.

And that's what Lucette is but it's so much more than that because she's genuinely a horrible person and she doesn't actually believe that she or others are capable of love. She was brainwashed and gaslit as a child into believing that literally everyone in the world except for her mother would only be kind to her (even down to small things like smiling at her) if they wanted or needed something from her. By the time she's 17 and the game has begun, she's fully internalized that lesson and she's cold, rude, and all around pretty heartless.

And I really really like that Lucette starts out with those traits because I feel like so often in visual novel games, the MC is kinda this vague character that nearly every player should be able to relate to, but Lucette has a personality, and it's a bad one, and that makes her so interesting! Especially since you get to see her grow and change into a kind, loving, and trusting person throughout the game.

So often hero's quests are about good people who want to be great, but Lucette's quest is awesome because her whole story is a unique, beautiful, and interesting redemption arc about a bad person trying not to turn out worse than she already is and dooming her kingdom in the process.

Recently played the excellent otome game, Cinderella Phenomenon, and honestly if I didn't have a postgraduate degree to complete I would be writing so much fanfiction for my beloved Fritzgerald Aiden Leverton. He is best boy and also always in love with you no matter whose route you play AND YET they gave him the most tragic route even in the good ending😭 the bias against loyal knights and their aching hearts is real. Anyways, fanart of him and Lucette will be incoming when I have a moment to breathe. He deserves to be held every day very softly.

Let's keep the CinPhen train going! I'll only answer for Fritz, Anon, since I do have a few other questions in my inbox that I want to get to and answering for four characters at once might take too long.

Favorite thing about them: Sword sexy... Sorry. I'm weak for a man who can and will fight and get bloody. It's a shallow reason but kdhausrht!

Least favorite thing about them: What happened to him in Klaude's route. If you know, you know...

OOOOHHH! The whole scene that this line is a part of is good but just this line on it's own is plenty of fun. The flirty use of "princess"! The graceful teasing! The little allusion to Fritz's dog/wolf theming with the mention of biting! KJDHIUEAHT! So short but so delicious~!

brOTP: Spoilers for those who haven't played the game and want to...

Fritz & Varg. I know they're the same person but they're also not? I'm not deep in this fandom but I know it's a talking point so for now they're being treated as separate entities. They even talk about each other as separate people at times so it works. Anyways, they're mostly antagonistic towards each other but it kinda settles down. Varg gives up control so Fritz can live, and Fritz eventually comes to terms with the part of himself that Varg is so be a more balanced (and more fun) man.

OTP: Fritz x Lucette. Yeah I'm so down for the game's heroine to get with Fritz. He and Waltz are the top choices for her. But I like Fritz in particular because he and Lucette get to see each other a their worst/weakest which I don't really get with Lucette x Waltz. The mutual acknowledgement of weakness/fault is something I kinda need to see in a ship and I feel that so strongly with Fritz x Lucette as Fritz is powerless to his curse and Lucette is under the stress of seeing her whole world essentially fall apart.

nOTP: None that I can think of honestly.

Random headcanon: He's got a big appetite. A combination of a high metabolism and an active lifestyle as a knight means he needs to eat a lot. And people don't really notice it until they spend more time with him and find "wait, he's going back for a fourth plate?"

Unpopular opinion: He should be allowed to kill his dad as a treat. I actually don't know or care if it's an unpopular opinion in the fandom, I wanted to say it. He really should get to.

Song I associate with them: Hozier's Like Real People Do. A love song about troubled individuals finding love? It's all too perfect for Fritz, whose romance route is heavy and he's left with a lot of complex feelings coming out of it.

Favorite picture of them: Dicesuki cooked with this cg from Fritz's Evermore route! The lighting! The besotted expressions! The flower petals in the wind! Serving absolute romance!

Lucette:

Her story makes a fun twist on the Cinderella story. She's not a Cinderella character so much as she has a Cinderella curse. Basically the clock strikes midnight one night, and everyone in the kingdom has forgotten who she was. She's been a snotty princess her whole life, but she wakes the next morning a snotty peasant, with one valuable item, a necklace with a glass slipper charm on it. To restore her status and everyone's memories, she must do three good, selfless deeds, and for each deed she will gain a piece of the second glass slipper charm, until she has a pair. Once she completes the pair, everything will go back to the way it was before, except for the princess will have changed her distrustful hateful ways and become a royal that the people can be proud of.

OHHHHH MY GODDD YESS 😭 I literally just got through my first play through and I just couldn’t enjoy the game properly bcs I thought everyone was just so fucking insufferably unreasonable???? I couldn’t even properly support Lucettes changes bcs I thought her punishment was so fucking ridiculous for what she’s done and gone through and I just straight forwarded HATEDDD Delora to the point I just wanted to dig my heels and have Lucette get worse or switch sides at some points (not that her mother and her supporters would treat Lucette better I just HATE the fact the “good teachers” were just fucking terrible in my eyes)

Cinderella Phenomenon: Lucette Was Wrongfully Cursed

So, this might be a hot take on the game since Lucette is portrayed to be this rude person that needs to be taught “kindness” so she doesn’t become a “tyrant and cruel ruler”, at least that is what everyone expects her to be. At least in the game.

Lucette never once came across as a really rude or mean person to me. Maybe she was a bit blunt when the more polite thing to do would be to be quiet, but she didn’t actually do anything wrong.

Let’s start off with Lucette’s supposed “wrongdoings”. One thing that is brought up in the game is that she fired Annice. The characters say she was wrong to do such a thing, but that’s false. From Lucette’s perspective Annice tore the dress of one of her dolls and failed to do her job. So, she fired her, Annice didn’t correct that wrong assumption and inform Lucette it was actually a crow that tore it.

Delora knows Lucette thinks that Annice tore the dress, and fired her for it, but thinks Lucette is in the wrong for that. Realistically, if someone breaks (rips) the belongings of the Crown Princess, they would probably get a worse punishment than just being fired. And all Lucette did was fire some that she thought failed their job, so she wasn’t wrong for that. It was wrong for people to think she should just let it go when that’s the normal reaction for a noble.

Lucette was also seen as being in the wrong for not being nice to her new family, but that’s expecting way too much from her. The King barely ever spent time with her even when he finally had the opportunity and just brought in this entirely new family without warning. Then he expects Lucette to treat them with kindness even though he treats them with much more kindness than he has ever treated her with, from her perspective replacing her mother who did no wrong, and still barely gives her any emotional support or attention. She’s just expected to accept it. Most teenagers would get mad and be upset if something like this happened.

That’s not even touching on the fact that you can actively tell the King sees Lucette as a mini version of her mother and that’s probably why he’s neglecting his own child. But he’s never actually properly called out by anyone but Lucette. And he’s not the only one. Everyone always sees her mother before they see Lucette, and because of that they treat her horribly for something that she hasn’t even done. It’s normal for her not to want to interact with others when she knows they are constantly talking behind her back. She shouldn’t be expected to treat them kindly when they can’t treat her with any respect.

That’s the entire reason Delora curses her. Even with the year that she spends with Lucette, or just about, even after Lucette confesses all her troubles to her, she only ever sees Lucette as a mini version of her mother. She expects Lucette to be this super kind person when that’s not something anyone really has the right to ask of Lucette considering how most people treat her.

And it doesn’t help that no one ever told Lucette who her mother actually was. Most people just assumed she knew who she was and that’s why they acted so bothered when she defended her mother at times. Well, either assumed, expected, or acted like she knew. But there’s a good portion of the cast that should know that Lucette didn’t truly know who her mother was. The King and Delora in particular.

That’s not to say Lucette can’t be a tad too blunt or harsh to people that are kind to her. But considering how most people treat her, it’s no wonder she thinks people are just faking it to get at her.

It’s kinda like the whole thing with Emelaigne. Emelaigne did nothing wrong, but besides being blunt and a little harsher that absolutely necessary, Lucette did nothing wrong when interacting with her. Everyone kept pushing Emelaigne on to her, while they all talked behind her back about how Emelaigne would make a better Crown Princess. And the King, who no doubt heard this, did nothing to correct it or ease any potential worries Lucette might have. 

Then there’s the whole thing with Lucette’s childhood. Not touching on how Lucette’s mother emotionally manipulated and abused her as well as kept her isolated, people weren’t even kind to Lucette then. The one person that was, was Waltz. And Lucette didn’t remember him.

But from bits that we are shown, children did actively take advantage of Lucette when she was younger. They would call her cruel and pick on her when she didn’t do what they wanted. Which Lucette’s mother used to manipulate her.

Point being, no one ever gave Lucette a chance to be anyone but a mini version of her mother. They never saw Lucette. Which is why when Lucette didn’t act super sweet to them, they assumed the worse. The only one I can say actively gave her a chance to just be with the knowledge of who she was, was Rumpel who had lost his memories, Parfait, Emelaigne, Ophelia, Fritz, and Waltz. I’m not including Delora, because after being with Lucette for a year she should have realized Lucette was never a bad person. The King was just a horrible father. I’m also not including Karma, because even though his route was amazing, he outright admitted to planning on taking advantage of Lucette from the start and getting her to break his curse. Just not in the way it happened in his route.

Of course, with all this said, I still love the game to pieces. It has interesting lore and is well crafted. I understand they couldn’t make Lucette pure evil because she was the protagonist, but I just never felt like she deserved the punishment she got.

Thank you, Anon! I'll answer for Rumpel/Chevalier because that man is in desperate need of love! AAAAHHHH!

Favorite thing about them: I think Chevalier is the only "flirt" archetype character that I'm really passionate about. It does take a while for that aspect of his character to be addressed in his route

Least favorite thing about them: Him calling himself "ancient" at age 24 has aged poorly since now I'm older than him and I think "dang, my self-esteem gets shot in the foot whenever I hear that line now."/lh

Favorite line: This line from early on in Rumpel's route stuck out to me because it is a show of his character (always looking out for others' well-being) but it's just plain good advice.

All you have to do is listen to people, sympathize with them, maybe get to know them, and you can make them happy by doing even small things for them.

We can't all be grand philanthropists or change the world through outstanding charity work, but everyone can still help others in smaller, simpler ways like being a listening ear. It's nice to be able to do big gestures of care but that's not always possible, but aiming for small acts of kindness is still kindness.

brOTP: Chevalier & Annice. I think it's sweet to see Chevaliar take Annice as a student (best seen in the Evermore sequel), it shows how people in-universe see the admirable qualities of Chevalier and he can take charge.

OTP: Chevalier x Klaude. Vitriolic friends to actual friends to lovers anyone? Also, the way the game's themes of honesty vs secrets and selfish vs selfless overlap with these two particularly fascinates me.

nOTP: Chevalier x Annice. They work much better their their canon friends + teacher/student dynamic.

Random headcanon: His dad was a serious flirt and his mom was super into it, kinda explaining how he is so good at flirting and why he doesn't really see the negatives of it.

Unpopular opinion: Why do people dislike him/his route so much? I suppose flirty characters are hard to make appealing to a lot of people. Maybe the harsh turn near the end threw people off? Or maybe it's the admittedly slow first half dealing with Chevalier's flirting and past relationship.

Song I associate with them: Never Getting Rid of Me from the musical Waitress has this fun and infectious energy as well as showing off a guy who persistently pursues the woman who captured his heart so I think it works for Chevalier. Not a perfect fit since the in-song reactions of Dawn (the pursued woman) are more nervous while Lucette is annoyed by Chevalier's dramatics. But hey, it's my own personal association.

Favorite picture of them: The moment when he makes Lucette laugh and the way he looks happy to have been able to do that for her (even if it was at the expense of his pride a little). They're cute together, guys!
