Lucas Cranach the Younger, Venus and Cupid, 1540. Alte Pinakothek, Munich.
The blond Venus stands against a dark background on stony ground. She holds a thin veil in her left hand, which partially envelops her, but does not conceal her nakedness. In addition she wears numerous pieces of jewellery around her forehead, her neck and her stomach. With her right hand she points to Cupid, who stands balancing on his right foot on a small pedestal on the left side of the painting. He holds an arrow in his right hand and his left hand is raised towards Venus.
