Five years they’d been together and he still didn’t trust Muggle cars—‘death metal’, he called them. He hadn’t been amused in the slightest when she showed him that was actually an entire genre of music.

“It’s no more dangerous than your Nimbus.”

Grey eyes narrowed in disbelief, and he huffed before stepping back even further. Still, he didn’t turn away. He watched her pull out and continued watching until she’d turned the corner.

Hermione drove the car every chance she could get, which wasn’t that often due to England’s short summers and even less clear days. Every single time she hopped in the driver’s seat and backed out, he called, “be safe,” and, every time, she answered, “always.”

The idea came to her after listening to an old mixtape.

“I don’t see why I need to sit in here when we aren’t even going anywhere,” he muttered, his long legs struggling to get comfortable in the cramped space. “What was it you wanted to show me?”

“This.”

She’d worn a flippable skirt for just this occasion, plopping down atop him with the flexibility of a woman who’d never stopped her daily yoga over the past decade.

“Wha—”

She froze him with a quick immobulus, taking the opportunity to settle her knees on either side of him more comfortably. It really was a wonderful thing that she was as bendy as she was, especially given the way he filled the seat.

His eyes flitted over her face, and she knew were she to let him go now, he’d let out a furious string of expletives. As it was, he couldn’t do a bloody thing.

She tugged on his belt and popped open the top button, humming a little song all the while. A whine spilled out of his still lip from deep in his throat and she paused to look up at him.

“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of you.”

His eyes flashed at the leer she’d picked up from him. He really didn’t have anyone else to blame.

In no time at all, she’d slipped her hand in and pulled his cock out, swollen and leaking, and she couldn’t help but swipe her thumb across the top to gather up the essence of Draco and lift it to her lips in a naughty suck, holding eye contact with him the entire time. They had an entire home filled with surfaces to defile, and here she was wanting to christen the car she’d grown up loving. She’d bet a million galleons that her parents had done the same in this very seat, and nearly cackled at the filthiness of overriding their invisible stains with her own.

“You are such a fucking brat,” he finally got out, his breath heavy. “You know I hate this thing—”

“What better way to get over it?” she said hotly against his lips, clenching her inner walls as tightly as she could and watching him go nearly crossed eyed at the stranglehold.

He was close, his speed going erratic and his fingers tightening on her hips in the way it always did when she found bruises afterward. She wore them with pride, smirking into the mirror as she placed her own fingertips atop them.

He could just finish ahead of her in revenge, but Draco wouldn’t ever be so selfish no matter how much she pissed him off. He splayed one hand against her lower back to keep pressing her downward. The other squeezed between them to rub circles around her just there. He shifted slightly, amazing, really, in the bucket seat, and then he was hammering against a part of her that now had her rolling back her eyes and grunting with each thrust.

She exploded with a scream that might have alerted authorities to their impropriety were they actually in the vicinity. As it was, only the neighbor’s cat startled, sprinting across the yard away from the shaking car. Draco followed her immediately after, groaning long as he pulsed inside of her, his head dropping into her chest.

“You witch.”

“Well, obviously.”

“You do realize that now you owe me a ride on my broomstick?”

“Isn’t that what we just did?”

“Ha-ha.”

But ride his broomstick, she did, and if he preceded their airborne coupling with a barrel roll or two, who was she to complain?

Omegaverse 101

So you've encountered the term for the first time - maybe you're 12 or very offline, or you've heard it before but heeded someone's advice to not look it up - either way, you're here, wondering. What is omegaverse, or alpha/beta/omega dynamics, as AO3 puts it? Here's a brief overview for you!

What is the omegaverse?

It's a trope mostly used in fanfiction, that has been spreading into published fiction, manga, and recently even into anime and tv shows. It can appear confusing to outsiders, since there is no unifying canon a/b/o authors draw from, and the details vary wildly between each story. The core is simple: On top of your gender, which is still identified at birth and works the same as it does in real life, you're also assigned to be an alpha, beta, or omega, though this tends to happen later in life, usually around when puberty happens. Whether you're male, female, intersex, non-binary, or any other sex/gender does not determine what you present as.

Alphas can sire children, even if they're afab. They tend to be seen as aggressive, competitive, and natural leaders. Whatever you associate with stereotypical, hypermasculine behaviour in the real world, that's now associated with alphas. They can go into ruts, a period of time where they get extremely horny and often aggressive/protective, and they may or may not be able to control themselves during that time. They generally have big dicks, though exact measurements are rarely given. Those dicks can swell at the base during sex, to lock them and their partner together for a while, which is called knotting.

Betas are essentially just baseline humans. They can have sex and feel horny, but only in the same way a real human can. Sometimes they're infertile, but other times they reproduce the same way actual humans do. Storys are rarely about betas, but they tend to be seen as rational and calm, good to have around to diffuse whatever the alphas and omegas have going on.

Omegas can bear children, even if they're amab. They're generally seen as submissive, caring, and weak. Women, basically, just more exaggerated. They periodically go into heat, which makes them horny and extremely appealing/irresistable to alphas in their vicinity. This is also the time period where they're fertile. Male omegas tend to have small dicks. Sometimes they have a pussy on top of that, other times their asshole self-lubricates and is connected to their uterus, whichever the author prefers.

How did we get here?

The terms originate from behavioural studies of wolves, and so does some of the biology (yes, wolves do have knots. in real life. if you didn't heed the warning to not look up omegaverse, at least heed mine not to look up wolf dicks. or any other animal dicks). Parts of the trope are pretty old - what's a heat if not a Pon Farr (Star Trek) for werewolves? Then, in 2010, a request was posted to the supernatural kink meme, requesting J2 smut with what became the basic tenets of the trope. It fit the already popular werewolf fic in the massive spn fandom, and spread like wildfire in just a few years far beyond spn or werewolves, and here we are.

Notes

Almost all omegaverse is m/m. Het omegaverse has found success (and a lawsuit) in original books, though I can say I haven't read any. The only het omegaverse I've ever read was fic with a female alpha and male omega, so don't ask me about this. Rare brave fans do write f/f omegaverse, and they have all my respect and gratitude. However, they're the exception, so for the purpose of this and any further discussion on this blog, please assume all parties are male unless specified otherwise.

Omegaverse can be abbreviated as A/B/O, or A/O if you don't have/don't care about betas. Some people simply use abo without the slashes, but abo is also a slur for aboriginal people in australia, so proceed with caution if you insist on using it.

There is NO one true way to write an omegaverse story. Nobody has the copyright to it. People will expect some of the above framework if you classify your fic as omegaverse, but you can do whatever you want forever. If you've read published manga, many of them share an explanation graphic that gives some base rules, but you don't need to stick to those, nor should you expect others to. It's a wild west out here. Write and read stories that do the trope how you like it, and don't read the rest. It's that easy.

Blog 3: Chinese Medicine, the 5 Elements & Me

In the previous blog, I touched on the yin and yang properties emphasized in Chinese medicine. The ancient Chinese sages also viewed the world in terms of a system of Five Elements: wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. These elements interact with each other and are found within all life, including our bodies.

Marie Hopkinson, a Chinese medicine practitioner in Australia, used the analogy of a plant to explain how these elements interact. The sun contributes fire to the plant, urging it to grow upward. The earth grounds the plant, allowing it to absorb nutrients. Metal refers to the wind and air, giving the plant oxygen. Also, the plant needs water to grow. I have been diagnosed by my acupuncturist as having dampness in my spleen, known as spleen energy deficiency, or spleen qi deficiency. The spleen-pancreas system, which is more of a functional term than a reference to these biological organs, is governed by the earth element. Summer corresponds to the earth element because of its dampness. I have a particularly tough time with summer's humidity because I am allergic to molds, particularly leaf molds. Since we live in the woods, and not far from a large lake, I have to stay in the house with air filters on to get away from leaf mold.

Someone like me with a spleen-pancreas imbalance will suffer with chronic tiredness, a weak digestion, and many other issues. Imagine a plant that has been over-watered, sagging with yellow leaves and not growing as it should.

To understand the spleen-pancreas system's function, imagine a fire (the spleen) heating up a pot of fluids (the stomach). The stomach needs warm, moist, cooked foods so it does not have to overwork while getting the nutrients of the foods. If the fires of the spleen system has been depleted, like mine has, cold foods make it work too hard.

To gain energy, those with spleen energy deficiency will crave sweets. To supply this energy in a healthy way, not overloading the body with glucose which we all know creates a rollercoaster of sugar highs and lows, Chinese medicine recommends eating grains, especially rice, and some fruit, with plenty of vegetables. Fried foods, refined foods, dairy products and dampening fruits and vegetables should be limited.

Many of these changes have challenged me. As I mentioned in my previous blog, Total Health gave me a convenient table that categorizes food as drying, lubricating, neutral, and strengthening. Since not every practitioner agrees with what foods fit in what categories, I have chosen to follow Ting's advice. I use Pitchford's book as a reference. He provides in-depth descriptions of the various properties of foods along with information on what conditions they treat.

Unlike my mother, I do not excel in menu planning. When I was young, my brother and I were not allowed to just grab something to eat because my mother was probably planning to use it for a specific meal. My biggest challenge has been figuring out what to eat using Chinese medicine recommendations.

I found a recipe in Total Healing called "Morning Energy Mega Boost" that satisfies my desire for sweets in the morning. It contains oatmeal, protein powder, walnuts, black sesame seeds, bee pollen, figs, apricots, and dates. My stomach and my taste buds like it.

Having soup or rice congee, a soupy rice mixture, works for supper. Chinese medicine also recommends eating light in the evening, which I was already doing because the result is that I have less acid reflux at night.

This leaves the biggest dilemma--what to eat for our main meal. Chinese medicine recommends eating your main meal in the middle of the day. We have been doing that for quite some time because of my husband's work schedule. Pitchford recommends eating only a small amount of meat, but my husband and I have been eating meat all of our lives. I have yet to find many recipes that work for me, other than stir fries, because we have always centered our main meal around meat!
