AI For One and All
The Flavors of AI democracy
AI is not only for engineers and data scientists but also for managers, VPs and CXOs to leverage themselves and ensure usage of AI across their organization in bringing productivity and cost benefits. True democratization of AI is in enabling functions (HR, finance, operations, legal) across the organization to leverage its full potential in everyday work-life while making it simplified and amplified. It should also simplify the end customers routines and interactions with the company.
Read: Role of AI in Cybersecurity: Protecting Digital Assets From Cybercrime
A host of AI tools like ChatGPT, Midjourney, Gemini, Bedrock, Grammarly, Bing Search, etc are already used by masses. But there is more than one way to define the democratization of AI.
For London-based Stability AI, democratizing AI means opening up access to AI design and development to a larger community of users. This company open sourced its deep learning, text-to-image model to empower developers around the world to use, modify and innovate with the tool, subject to terms of use. The idea being that allowing developers closest to the end-users free access would produce the best outcomes, and evolve the model itself over time.
A more common way of democratizing AI development is allowing even non-technical users with little programming knowledge in an enterprise to build and modify models to suit their requirements with the help of low-code and no-code tools.
Less known but critical nonetheless is the democratization of AI governance. This is not about allowing anyone to use, monitor, and control AI as they please; rather it is about preventing the monopolization of AI by a few entities by allowing the interest and participation of a large number of stakeholders to influence decisions on how the technology should be used and by whom, within risk versus reward guardrails.
In the traditional environment, access to the data sandbox and the ability to utilize the data within it might be limited to a select group of technical specialists. Limiting access to data sandboxes hinders innovation in several ways in the AI era. A successful culture of experimentation is an ongoing process that requires continuous effort and commitment from everyone involved, not just the technical specialists. Democratizing access to data within sandboxes empowers business users with access to data in the sandbox. They can experiment with user-friendly AI tools and pre-trained models to automate tasks, identify patterns, and gain insights relevant to their roles. This enables them to leverage the power of AI without needing advanced technical expertise.
At times, democratization of AI development can clash with democratization of governance – for example, when developers are restricted from using data that is valuable for innovation but is protected by regulation. But eventually, all democratization efforts are directed at putting the power of AI within reach of every individual. About sharing the benefits of AI technologies throughout the organization. About making it possible for business users to create the use-cases best suited to their needs without depending on IT or undergoing extensive technical training.
In theory, at least. But execution is a little more complicated.
AI pays, but also punishes
Democratization leads to scale, and potentially, unprecedented benefits, but handled badly, it is a recipe for unmitigated disaster. Imagine a large community of developers around the world using an algorithm with biased training data to build other AI models; they will have magnified and perpetuated its discriminatory outcomes in next to no time. In democratized AI enterprises, marketers tap AI platforms and their customer data to identify leads, insurers study health information to price premiums, and relationship managers access customers’ financial statements to personalize investment portfolios. Without robust security measures – about access rights, permitted devices, consent – and sensitization to responsible use of AI and data, there is a real risk of the systems being breached by malicious actors, or information of a private or sensitive nature being leaked out of the organization. From financial and reputational loss to disruption of systems, to legal repercussions, uncontrolled, ungoverned, democratization can lead to very serious consequences.
Proceed with care
Which is why data and AI must be democratized the right way.
The first step is to understand how different users will engage with AI (use to query or to create content, use insights to make decisions, modify or develop models, etc.) Upskilling all users including non-technical business users ensures safe and effective use of AI. Before allowing employees free rein, employers should also provide guidance on responsible AI practices, such as how to avoid subjectiveness and bias while assigning data labels. Solutions like smart data fingerprinting uncovers more data with transparency and traceability, providing a foundation for experimentation for any AI or GenAI project. Easy access to diverse datasets opens doors for “responsible data sandboxes” for creative exploration to drive organizational growth. It also promotes data sharing and facilitates seamless data exchange between different systems including AI/ML applications. Organizations may want to consider using technology infrastructure, such as MLOps, to support AI training and deployment.
As more users work with and on AI, they expose the organization to greater cybersecurity risks; secure coding practices, rigorous testing, and responsible data handling will mitigate vulnerability to attack and prevent misuse of data.
Introducing fairness and accountability checks during development will lower the probability of biased or inaccurate algorithmic outcomes and inspire trust in the applications. Building transparent and explainable AI models is key. While allowing more people to participate in designing and building AI models, enterprises should appoint a qualified human in the loop for overseeing responsible development. But even a “fair” algorithm can produce unfair outcomes if trained on flawed data: think of a dataset of potential borrowers that excludes ethnic minorities; an AI loan approval system using this data may end up rejecting eligible borrowers from those communities.
While democratization of AI will help the majority of employees become more productive and creative, it could displace some workers; employers must reskill and upskill these people for redeployment in other roles.
Share the benefits
Democratizing AI is not just about giving access to the latest tools, but it is about empowering employees at all levels to make better data driven decisions using AI, innovate by collaborating with AI, reduce biases, and deliver tangible results with improved productivity and efficiency. It allows every individual in the organization, regardless of rank or function, a share in this revolutionary technology creates inclusion, improves morale, and elevates employee experience.
These benefits directly translate into tangible and intangible business value like increased sales, customer satisfaction, and brand reputation.
By democratizing AI, companies can bridge the gap between execution and value. Ultimately, businesses can create strategic advantage to the stakeholders and achieve long term sustainable success.
Employees in every role can use generative AI to create a variety of content – text, visual, audio, code – and to produce new and innovative ideas. For example, instead of deferring to brand custodians, marketing staff can use pre-trained gen AI tools to independently build “creatives” in conformance with brand guidelines, including color, font, and tone of voice. A product development team can input desired parameters into the tool and instruct it to create multiple design options, to save substantial costs and time.
Helping everyone feel empowered and happy at work. What is democracy, if not this?

The Roadmap to Intelligent Automation Transformation: Achieving Maximum Efficiency
To plan for the post-pandemic world, business leaders are looking for technologies that offer gains in efficiency and save costs. Technologies like robotic process automation (RPA) and intelligent process automation (IPA) therefore continue to gain popularity. However, successful, implementation of intelligent automation requires a well-defined roadmap that outlines the steps and actions required to fulfill its objectives. It also means identifying the right areas that are best suited for automation.
Based on your needs, you may require any one or a combination of the following:
Design and develop automation solutions
Deploy and integrate automation solutions
Develop a change management automation solution
Scale and expand with process automation
How to Make Intelligent Automation Work for Your Business
Intelligent Automation uses advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and robotic process automation (RPA) to automate complex business processes and tasks. It combines AI algorithms' power with automation's efficiency to improve operational efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance decision-making. There are numerous business applications for intelligent automation across various industries, such as manual processing of data and filling forms. By leveraging intelligent automation, organizations can achieve increased productivity, cost savings, and improved customer satisfaction.
Harnessing the Power of Intelligent Automation for Diverse Firms
Intelligent automation works on several components simultaneously, such as ML, or machine learning, and robotics. For example, ML can receive and analyze customer data like queries, complaints, and tickets, which can be classified and stored into different categories. Robotic process automation (RPA) can automatically respond to queries based on their priorities. ML can also catch any change in customer behavior based on the interaction and, ultimately, any churn risks. Several industries, like manufacturing and logistics, function on complex machinery, and ML can be used to analyze time-sensitive data and spot fault risks.
Retail-based industries thrive mainly on customer data and purchasing histories, and RPA can be applied to collect dispersed data to help AI generate personalised recommendations. Lastly, intelligent automation can help streamline routing and spot any possible bottlenecks. ML brings preventive action to the table, while RPA offers alerts to the relevant workforce.
Reimagining Intelligent Automation in 2023: What's Next?
Gartner's 2023 technology trends for intelligent IT automation include hyperautomation, AI-powered decision-making, intelligent chatbots and virtual assistants, and automation of knowledge work. Hyperautomation is used to automate complex business processes end-to-end, while AI-powered decision-making analyses data and makes data-driven recommendations. Process mining, enhanced security, governance, collaboration between humans and automation, and ethical considerations in automation are emerging trends. Intelligent automation (IA) combines capabilities that enable organisations to mimic, replicate, or augment human activities. It has evolved beyond robotic process automation (RPA) with features such as low-code and no-code development platforms, intelligent document processing (IDP), optical character recognition (OCR), natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning (ML).
More intelligent automation tools are available today than ever before to support business enablement and drive operational efficiency. 2023 will be a year of significant automation potential due to continued talent shortages, soaring labour costs, inflation pressures, and increasing customer demands. Leaders should stay up-to-date on the latest automation trends and technologies to drive innovation.
End-to-end automation is gaining popularity due to its ability to integrate with different systems and technologies, providing a seamless and efficient workflow.
Low-code technology platforms enable organizations to quickly create, deploy, and manage automation solutions, leading to faster time-to-market and more efficient processes.
Organizations use automation for business transformation and value creation, leading to digital-centered products and services, improved customer and employee experiences, and increased revenue.
Automation is used to offset rising labour costs and inflation, with 78% investing to cover position voids and attract fresh talent.
Businesses must establish an RPA Centre of Excellence (CoE) to scale their automation program and increase operational efficiency, with 72% having deployed one by 2022.
AI and automation are used to create advanced automated systems and processes, such as advanced communications mining and intelligent document processing.
Low-code technology is essential for increasing the accessibility of automation and artificial intelligence, allowing users to generate automation, data models, and applications with a drag-and-drop interface.
Unlocking the Potential of Intelligent Automation in Operations & Process Improvement
Intelligent automation plays a crucial role in operations and process improvement by leveraging advanced technologies such as AI, ML, robotics, and process automation. It combines these technologies to streamline and optimize business operations, resulting in increased efficiency, reduced costs, improved quality, and enhanced customer satisfaction.

Onsite Management of Data Capture
“Data is at the core of a business’s ability to run effectively and efficiently on a day-to-day basis. From simply collecting and inputting customer profiles and sales information to structured and unstructured information sourced from paper and web forms, the need for accurate, secure data capture strategies is extremely high.”
Unfortunately, very few businesses have staff or management specialists who completely understand leading-edge data capture methodologies, including manual keying and automated data entry. Businesses often assign these tasks to front-line employees or managers instead, taking up precious working hours and increasing the risk of errors.
PDE’s Onsite Management of Data Capture ensures that you always have data collection experts at your location to help you collect data the right way. Key Benefits of Onsite Management of Data Capture Better Access to Business-Critical Information and Analytics
Businesses who collect and organize data properly benefit from a heightened assortment of business intelligence and planning options compared to those who lack expertise. Our experts have the power to collect data from more sources, organizing it into a format or style that works best for your business. Instead of relying on a system you need to conform to, your system conforms to your needs instead.
Having Onsite Management of Data Capture also ensures that PDE’s experts are always present and available to help you manage your information. If business processes change, or if you need a temporary adjustment to capture specific data, making changes is fast and easy. Our proprietary combination of automation and manual data entry ensures maximum efficiency.
Funnel Captured Data into Sensibly Organized Formats
How you use your data is up to you, but whatever your goals, PDE can work around them. From web analytics to sensitive customer financial or medical data entry outsourcing, our Data Capture strategies make the right tools available. Working with Onsite Management of Data Capture from PDE ensures your unstructured or structured data is presented in ways that make sense and retain usefulness, even if that data is unstructured from the start.
Our Onsite Data Capture Management teams have extensive experience working with diverse information and data formats, including manual key entry, imaging, scanning, digital channels like emails, and more. No matter how complex your data collection methods are, we can streamline business processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency at the endpoint of every collection channel. Being able to offload these tasks to a specific third-party team is of immense benefit to businesses with multiple departments, many projects, and few resources to spare.
Fully Scalable Data Capture and Collection From These Important Channels
Onsite Management of Data Capture significantly extends the collection and capture options for nearly all businesses and enterprise organizations. See the list below for a surface-level overview of just a few of the methods we use to ensure you have the right data at all times.
Manual and Nearshore Keying – For unstructured data that automated systems struggle to recognize or organize. Often best for low-volume data entry demands, such as weekly analytics, monthly reports, and customer profile information. Nearshore keying combines manual keying with automation to reduce workload and improve collection.
Intelligent Character Recognition – Automated software that powerfully interprets and catalogs unstructured and structured data such as forms, faxes, and handwritten notes. Unlike OCR (discussed further down), ICR is one of the only technologies with the power to recognize handwriting, even if the handwriting is messy or difficult to read.
Barcode recognition – This data capture method is best for inventory and other systems that rely on barcode recognition for efficient business processes. May also be used to itemize specific documents, such as transportation contracts, shipping information, or proof of delivery.
Templated Automated Capture – Data capture using automated technologies that only capture specific information based on a pre-designed template. Templates may be customized to suit the needs of the business. Suitable for tests, quizzes, and other education applications as well as government surveys and more.
Optical Character Recognition – Uses a computer-based “eye” to review documents and capture structured and unstructured data, including some handwriting and most forms. OCR systems may also be customized to recognize and categorize data based on the content within it for more accurate processes.
Intelligent Document Recognition – Similar to OCR, but follows specific rules for recognizing data. For context, many post offices use IDR to recognize postal codes and shipping information, auto-populating it into the system after it is scanned. Appropriate for any business who receives a high amount of information, but only needs to analyze a portion of what is presented at any given time.
Voice Capture – Have our Onsite Management of Data Capture team set up and manage processes to record voice notes, voicemails, and voice messages. Make taking notes for meetings, recording conferences, and staying on top of contacts fast and easy.
Strategies for Legacy Data – Using a different type of data, including older input systems? We can help you improve your business processes while retaining your older legacy systems with custom software retrofits and manual keying.

Anyone can now create captivating app experiences that expand from a single department to the entire company fast and safely.
Companies may efficiently expand and expedite app delivery by empowering business stakeholders such as business process analysts, rather than depending primarily on professional developers to construct apps. More than just extra hands, these business specialists are frequently the most knowledgeable about the business requirements, associated procedures, and end-user preferences that the most successful apps are based on.
Agile automation offered through software is required for growth and success. App Engine, which is powered by the Now Platform, enables the rapid low code development of Creator Workflows that provide exceptional experiences for everyone. App Engine enables you to create apps quickly with low-code development and grow cross-enterprise experiences that customers love as more people build with less complexity.
Continuous innovation is required to keep up with constant change
With today’s rapid speed of change, those who can innovate the most quickly will have the most prospects. Companies cannot afford to wait when market conditions change or a new competition joins the market. Companies must modernize and turn manual processes into automated digital workflows, while also inventing new workflows to suit their developing business models and practices, in order to keep up.
This increases the demand for new apps and workflows, but keeping up is difficult. Most companies do not have enough professional developers to fulfill demand, resulting in backlogs. Simultaneously, user expectations continue to rise. They expect a complete, end-to-end, and seamless digital experience at all times that matter. As a result, each new app must provide a modern, feature-rich complete experience.
Accelerate innovation with a low-code solution
More creators, less code, and simpler technology are required to scale innovation today. However, cost management and security cannot be sacrificed in the sake of efficiency and productivity. The emergence of unfettered apps that lack the essential enterprise safeguards poses a risk and makes growth unsustainable.
Professional developers, line of business technologists (citizen developers), and low-code developers all work on the same platform using App Engine, either independently or in collaborative teams. What’s the end result?
Better apps that scale without sprawl and a faster time to market.
