You knew it was a mistake when Jason did a “renovation project” in one of his backup safe houses. You knew he was up to something, but that stupid, but adorable, smile caught you in its trap. honestly it’s a bit annoying how people are bending themselves into a pretzel to justify this writing but are claiming that they’re somehow smarter for getting it like dude you can’t flipflop like if you think Alicent should be allowed to resent her child and get him beheaded cuz he was the result of marital rapr but somehow when it’s brought up of Alicent not the narrative acknowledges viserys being somebody that did that then it’s that oh Alicent is a character of that time so obviously she has buried that resentment deep inside but it’s the resentment conveniently reaches the surface when it’s time to press forward the rhaenicent ship.

I’m trying to be understanding but honestly what I’ve personally observed is that the only people that seem to love this are rhaenicent shippers and that’s it cuz how come oh all of this war was pointless and that’s the point all along but it’s like dude come on a character not acknowledging their grandchild was beheaded in their sleep is not an example of how well it shows the war is pointless cuz how is the mother of that beheaded child helping the man that got him murdered. How come the narrative doesn’t acknowledge that daemon did that and rhaenyra is still allowing that man back into her team like yeah let her do that but let the narrative acknowledge that she’s selfish for it and that she doesn’t truly care about what happened and what happened to helaena either.

I was willing to think people just have different interpretations and leave it at that before but the writing has become so blatantly biased that when people don’t even acknowledge that I genuinely feel like I’m being gaslit here like excuse me what

no, i totally get it and it is SO frustrating. bending themselves into a pretzel is such a good way of saying it. people love the IP and the asoiaf universe so much that they are willing to gaslit themselves that it's not bad.

but what's the point? it's bad execution after bad execution, a whole continuous string of them. you can't fundamentally change characters like that without making huge adjustments to the plot and to their fate as well - they won't naturally hit the same story beats! a character with show!alicent's personality would never do the things book!alicent did! a character with show!rhaenyra's personality is never going to do the things book!rhaenyra did!

they want to reconstruct these characters from the ground up, shove their dumbass life philosophies and first wave understanding of feminism in there, then NOT do any of the work that might allow them to depict an organic character arc. they still have to hit the same plot points, so ofc it's going to be circus-level flip-floping bc the motivations will not make sense if you change their core self so much.

this is especially evident with how the show REFUSES to admit viserys was a rapist. but at the same time implying so badly that alicent didn't want these children and is shackled by them. if she didn't want them, how did she manage to produce 4?? of them? who put those children into her body? if she didn't want them, then it was done against her will, no? can we examine that before we get to the point of gleefully handing them over to be executed bc you want to "be free"? no, ofc not, bc that would make viserys look bad 🙄 so how can you accept that supposed motivation of alicent's if it so half-baked? i hate it so much. and i hate it that people are going "fans are triggered by bad mother characters, but that's not feminist, women should be allowed to be villains and unpalatable on screen REEEEEE"

and another thing i find frustrating is this (mistaken IMO) attempt at a distinction between wanting explicit media vs media where things are left open to interpretation, and how hotd is supposedly the latter and we just don't understand that some people prefer having to fill in the gaps themselves. i don't want media with neon signs pointing if something is """"bad""""" or """""""good"""""". i am not asking for the booktokification of asoiaf!

no one in Succession is looking at the camera and saying "i am doing X thing bc of Y" and there are enough points where the show supports multiple interpretations, but the character work and attention to detail is stellar with similar amounts of screen time. i wish i could word this better but hotd does this annoying ass thing where it skips the fallout of important moments and then never addresses them, then pretends that's subtle character work instead of what it actually is: a lazy hack job.

i mean, honestly, i can't believe we ever complained about season 8 in the first place if these are the new standards. genuinely, i would encourage everyone to go back and re-watch those last episodes and make a bullet-point list about what's actually bad about them while trying to defend hotd s2 with the same arguments. because at least dany has a very clear, if rushed, progression there: she has a clear goal, an obstacle, suffers some losses she considers harrowing (an escalation), she is shown to be depressed and getting paranoid, there's a trigger point, she gives into violence and finishes off fanatical about her own self. where is the problem?

Soda had never felt unsafe in his own home before Darry got jumped, but in the weeks that followed, he found himself lying awake half the night worrying about what lurked in the shadows. 

It’d never been a problem before because there had always been someone around to protect him; when he was a kid he had his parents, and after they died, well, he still had Darry. But seeing his brother get jumped reminded Soda that no matter how many times they said it, his brother wasn’t Superman, not really. And as much as he hated to admit it, it had shaken his faith to see his once invincible brother so thoroughly beaten down, even if it wasn’t a fair fight.

The only thing that seemed to soothe his worries was locking the doors. He was embarrassed to do it at first. They’d never had a problem before keeping them unlocked, and the rational part of him knew they probably wouldn’t have one now. But that didn’t matter. All Soda could imagine as he lay awake at night was Darry’s friends coming back for another round. They knew where Darry lived, right? What if they decided they weren’t finished? What if they decided they wanted to take away the last line of defense Soda had left in this world? They’d nearly killed him before, what was stopping them from doing it now? 

So after he was sure everyone was asleep, he’d sneak down the hall and turn the deadbolt, the soft click in the night soothing his worries, then he’d get up early in the morning to unlock them again before Darry left. It wasn’t perfect, and Soda couldn’t keep it secret forever, but for the first time in weeks, he could at least get a few hours of sleep. 

Soda didn't even think to mention it to the guys, and if he was honest, he didn’t want to, but then Two-Bit came over one night after he’d had a bit too much to drink and started pounding on the door, unable in his drunken haze to understand why the Curtis’s front door no longer worked. He made enough racket to wake the whole damn neighborhood, and Soda realized his mistake.

By some miracle, Darry didn’t wake up, but Soda nearly ripped Two-Bit’s head off when he dragged him inside.

The next morning when Soda came tiptoeing down the hall to unlock the door, he was met with Two-Bit sitting up on the couch, sober, if perhaps a little hungover, giving Soda a worried look.

“What the hell are you doing?”

Soda laughed, but it didn’t sound quite right. “Ain’t nothing, man, the neighborhood’s just been rowdy lately, you know?”

Two-Bit’s expression softened, and he said quietly, “Soda, what’s going on?”

Soda didn’t know what it was about that moment, maybe it was the gentle look in his friend’s eye, maybe the words were just simpler to say in the mist of the early morning, or maybe Soda was just so damn tired of keeping it all in, but he found all his fears and worries of the past month spilling out of him; worrying about Darry, worrying his friends would come and finish the job, worrying that if they did, there was nothing Soda could do to stop it.

Somewhere along the way Two-Bit got up and pulled Soda over to the couch, and when finally he ran out of words, Soda apologized.

Two-Bit gave him a bewildered look. “What the hell are you sorry for?”

“I know this is where you guys crash, maybe we can figure some sort of system out or something. Like you could come knock on my window instead! Well actually, that won’t work either, I don’t want to wake Pony up. We could—”

But Two-Bit shook his head before Soda could spiral further, “Don’t worry about us man, we’ll figure something out.”

“But–” 

“I’m serious Soda, it ain’t nothing.”

A few days rolled by and Two-Bit came back with Soda’s house key plus two copies he’d had made (never mind that Soda didn’t even know they had a house key). When Soda gave him a confused look, Two-Bit shrugged and said, “For me and Steve. We can still get in, you can keep the door locked. It’s a win win.”

Soda stared at the keys in his hand, touched by the gesture, but unsure how to say it. “What about the rest of the hood? Hell, Curly Shepard slept on the couch for a month straight a while back. Where will they go?”

Two-Bit waved him off, “They know the deal, don’t worry about it.”

“I don’t want it to be a problem for anyone,” Soda said.

Two-Bit gave him a look so serious Soda didn’t know what to do with it, not from his friend who was usually quick to a smile and had enough jokes to fill a phone book. “I’m telling you, Soda, it ain’t a problem. You gotta look after your brother. Everyone else can figure it out.”

Soda paused, another thought worrying him. “If Darry ever finds out–”

Two-Bit rolled his eyes and gave him a light punch in the shoulder. “He won’t. Will ya get it through that thick head of yours? Me and Steve got it covered.”

Soda looked at the front door, then at the keys still in Two-Bit’s hand. After a moment he nodded. For the first time in weeks, he felt something settle. Maybe they could make it through this with his friends’ help, he thought. Maybe, eventually, they’d be okay again.

Hellooo I didn't see someone asking this before but maybe I'm blind. I was thinking of starting to watch Bonanza and Dr. Quinn. I am interested but I'm a little afraid of how big they are so to speak? I thought asking you what you like about them would be cool? Your posts are so nice!

I love westerns and I don't need romance romance but I am also not feeling the newer series like Yellowstone if that makes sense? So I thought maybe Bonanza and Dr. Quinn would be the ones to try.

Hello!! Both VERY good and fun shows!! But yes both can definetly feel like quite the undertaking, especially Bonanza (looks at the 14 seasons)

If I'm to say what I like about Bonanza we might be here a while and this post will get very long, it is my favorite tv show after all, but I'll try to keep it short! I really overrall enjoy the characters and family aspect of it. All the adventures and situations they get into and how they interact with each other and the people around them. Bonanza is more of an anthology series, where each episode has it's own plot and the series doesn't follow one main plot (well I guess the main plot is following The Cartwrights and the stuff they get into each episode). The anthology-ness of it sometimes might make it easier to watch, cause honestly you can kinda skip around the episodes and seasons and watch the ones that you think sound interesting plotwise if you don't feel like starting from the beginning and watch all the episodes (or if you start at the begining to familiarize yourself with the characters and get tired of watching it in order). But keep in mind this is a long TV show that started in 1959 and ended in 1973, so the show look and feel rather different in the later seasons than in the first ones, but naturally it still follows the same premise. You REALLY do not have to watch all of it in order to enjoy it.

In Bonanza you kinda have everything. You got humor, drama, action, extreme sillyness and more dramatic darker themes and lots of other things and I really like that! there is romance also but it's more like.... what girl is Joe dating this episode and then you never hear about her again. and also

While Dr. Quinn is probably best to watch from the start and work your way through it. It's alot more heavy on the romance side tho (the cheesy campy good kind of romance mind you). It's a very feel-good and sweet TV show that also isn't afraid to get dark and dramatic and also being cheerful. I like it cause it gives me a wierd 90's romance drama nostalgia that I really love along with family drama.

HOWEVER if you feel like trying out some other older western shows that aren't as lengthy as Bonanza and Dr. Quinn, I can recommend these:

The Magnificant Seven (1998-2000)

The Young Riders (1989-1992)

Bordertown (1989-1991)

Little Men (1998-1999)

I also totally understand not vibing with newer shows like Yellowstone! Personally I really don't watch alot of newer westerns cause they feel to gritty for me. I prefer the vibe of the 60's-90's westerns.

back 2 canon. Maki accidentally doms the hell out of Miu solely by virtue of existing. Maki goes "shut up" and Miu becomes a puddle on the ground. Miu walks into Maki's talent lab at one point, sees Maki practicing with a whip, and faints on the spot

what are your top 5 favorite sam episodes?

AH oh my god only 5 !! well. i believe that every episode can really be a sam episode if you think about it enough. that being said:

02x16 - features one of my favorite sam quotes of all time & ghosts <3 he is just so gentle & understanding and it is such a comfort ep for me

04x04 - what to even say. truly one of THE episodes to me

04x21 - again what to even say ! it's really just 45 minutes of sam going through it and i enjoy every second of it

05x22 - i hesitated to include this because i don't want it to be taken the wrong way but i love lucifer & sam interactions and i think that it is an ending that really works for the themes of s5

07x02 - at one point i had the warehouse interaction between dean & sam memorized <3 and it has that added bonus of sam genuinely questioning if he is still in the cage

sorry im about to vent off topic :i s2g if they hint on handsome jack in the movie and it is NOT dameon clarke im gonna lose my marbles. I feel like when they look at the success of the characters as well the VAs do so much heavy lifting to giving life to these characters. why they didnt just use the VA for Claptrap from B3 is beyond me why did it need to be someone else so it doesnt even sound right - they def went for name recongition over matching the characters - kevin hart is so tiny hes such a small dude and roland is large and also if roland is alive wouldnt thta imply that jack's also alive. like handsome jack is so successful because of dameon. he gave so many off the cuff lines. and if they wnated to make a movie why would they not choose the tales gang if thats the one that gave them so much credit? sorry i have so many feelings and i, also so SICK of seeing tiny tina bein g used for literally every borderlands merch thing recently

I'm fine with actors putting their own spin on characters they play and seeing how their writing can be interpreted differently but with handsome jack it becomes really tricky cause like... dameon clarke MADE jack who he is. Like a lot of people credit him for how good of a character he is so whoever WOULD play jack would have a whole lot of expectations to match. We already hate the casting (which is 100% just to get attention instead of accurately portraying the characters) so imagine how much more we would hate it if they messed jack up

Overall the whole movie just adds to what I said about gbox being out of touch with the fandom. We got randy already claiming he wants to make a sequel when the whole fanbase has voiced concern and disinterest about the movie just based on the trailers and they're just really trying to force lilith and tina to be fan favorites when they're... not? Like I love them, especially lilith like that's my homegirl right there, but the fandom as a whole would disagree that they're even well-liked characters

Dw the Fatui is covering the costs for the wedding! Also consider: Childe + promise rings, I think he'd want to wait to marry you after a lot of the hardcore Fatui stuff dies down just for your safety so he gifts you that ring as a reminder to wait for him 💖💖

You, who donned the familiar green, gold, and white hues of the Akademiya's uniform. You, who were hanging off a ladder looking for a book on the high shelves like it was no big deal. You, who were smiling and giggling even though you probably had a 20-page essay due before midnight. You, who looked so happy... just like how he remembered you. Ah, how many centuries ago that was. It seems even he must grow weak to time sometimes.

... And then his eyes travel down to some person calling for you. Who the hell is that? Why are you working with someone besides him? And then he thinks, this scene is probably from before he got to know you. But still...

He idly wonders if he killed that pest in the past, but he can't remember because he doesn't care about his irrelevant victims.

to start with i do think he’s drawn to people who are kind :3 on a deeper level, y’know? someone with an inherent sense of care or justice even if they don’t always seem like they do…. maybe especially if they don’t seem like they do?? i could see him falling hard for someone he can’t get a good read on. someone with a lot more to them than what meets the eye… he’d get captivated pretty quickly <3333

as for being a sorcerer or not!!! this one is tough because like …. with satoru and shoko i genuinely think they would be better off with a non-sorcerer. but i feel like maybe suguru is the opposite? 😭 he’d be overprotective either way but with a non-sorcerer it’s wayyyy worse . it could get a little… suffocating? infantilizing? he doesn’t mean any harm but i think his intense sense of duty would end up holding you both back. suguru needs someone he can see as an equal, someone he’ll trust to bear even a tiny bit of his burden, (even if he doesn’t want them to) and… with a non-sorcerer i doubt that’s possible. :’)
