This was a fascinating boot, featuring a Phantom with a lovely Swedish accented tenor voice, Samantha “too sweet to be hot, except to the Phantom” Hill, and release-the-thirst-floodgates Jeremy Stolle. The Stolle thirst was boundless. The Stolle thirst was all encompassing. There was scarcely a vocal phrasing, gesture, line read or body part that was not only mentioned but gushed over. I did not even begin to count the ways. Every category would have been “greater than infinity”. And, every comment was true. This man delivered! From the height of his tallness to the depths of his deep baritone, Stolle was on a roll in this boot. The boot itself was very good quality, only one large Head occasionally swallowing the action like a black hole. Very worth seeing! The passion of the AIAOY Kiss is matched only by the physics involved in making it happen between oh so tall Stolle and oh so small Hill. But true love always finds a way!

Personal thoughts on… 2019 releases (Part II)

Note: As the title says, these are just personal opinions on Choices books and chapters. Of course, you may agree or disagree with them, I only use this platform to express my thoughts on what I read every week.

Welcome to the second part of this three-part post. As I said in the first post, I will include current releases and books that were released on 2018 but finished in 2019. The list is organized in alphabetical order and it doesn’t include the VIP Books (as I don’t have access to the feature) or the seasonal books (as I’ll talk about them in another post, after all of them have been fully released). You may see Part I here.

PS: I’ll do my best to upload Part III today (Dec. 31), but I can’t make any promises because I won’t be home on New Year’s eve.

Desire & Decorum, Book 3 (August 4, 2019 - December 1, 2019): This is the only wedding book that made real sense to me this year… and it’s definitely my favorite wedding book of the year. It was the perfect closure for a series that didn’t convince me that much at first, but that I learned to love over time. We had this whole new plot with Harry that was a little weak, but at the same time it was a smart move, as it helped to keep a balance and to not overcharge things with the wedding. But can we just talk about the final chapter? It was simply adorable, I loved every part of it (honestly, I haven’t heard of anyone complaining on the final chapter yet). If I have to criticize something, I’d say the writers went too far with Mr. Sinclaire. The man went through hell in the first two books, I thought they would give him a break in the third one… I was so wrong! But overall, I really liked this book, the new characters such as Harry, Briar’s mom and Hamid’s mom gave some fresh air to the story and new plots such as matchmaking Luke and Anabelle’s sister were a nice twist. I’m pretty happy with this book.

High School Story: Class Act, Book 1 (October 8, 2018 - January 14, 2019): New cast, same school. I couldn’t actually say if I like or dislike this book more than the previous series because I actually feel it’s just impossible to compare them. The writers had a very difficult work to do, as they needed to make this cast different from the HSS one within the same environment, and I’d say they succeeded. Not only you can see the problems are different, but also the way they address their relationships is different, and it’s quite evident that they are younger kids that are transitioning into their teenage years more than teens thinking about graduating and going to college. We also went from this super popular MC and being prom king/queen to a MC who embarrasses himself/herself quite often and whose friends (except for Rory) are probably amongst the most unpopular kids in school. Finally, the fact that the story focuses in one specific school area (the theatre club) was a pretty smart move to not make this story a mess. So overall, it’s not one of my favorite books, but I enjoyed reading it and I appreciate the writers’ effort to make this series different from the first one.

High School Story: Class Act, Book 2 (February 11, 2019 - May 20, 2019): This is the theatre book where theatre is not seen anywhere. I’m not sure if this is the weakest book in the series (I think I still need to realize how Book 3 will end in a few weeks), but I admit I had to review the chapters’ summary because I couldn’t even remember what the book was about. The plot was simply lame, there are no big highlights in the story, we spent like half of it in the middle of a fight between Rory and our twin because they both want to be school president (can we talk about the fact that Maria is graduating?) and we appeared on TV. Our MC simply didn’t shine or did anything truly remarkable during this book. If it weren’t for Ajay’s parents’ divorce and the role our MC played on supporting his/her friend, this book would have been easily forgotten.

High School Story: Class Act, Book 3 (October 30, 2019 - Present): Honestly, I’m not a fan of mixing both HSS gangs in Book 3. It feels weird not to be able to control a MC that I was able to manage in the past. I also understand all the hype for going to London, but did we really need as many people as we see in this book? Where are people like Natalie or Danielle? I mean, I don’t like them, but they’ve belonged to this group since day 1. Anyway… I’m guessing this is the way the writers found for us to say goodbye to this series. After six books, I think it’s the perfect time to put High School Story to rest for a while, before it becomes a mess. Even though there are some chapters left, I can already tell what my favorite thing about this book (and this series) is: the issues these kids have to face in their personal lives are serious stuff. In the past, Rory’s mom had cancer and Ajay’s parents got divorced, and now we talk about Skye coming from an abusive family and our twins trying to find their roots. That was enough. I don’t think we needed Rory and Ajay facing new problems in this book. Instead, I would have preferred to see Rory working with Maria or Ajay dealing with the fact that he became “the man of the house” after his parents’ divorce. The idea was to see them “growing” throughout the series; unfortunately, this hasn’t happened yet.

It Lives Beneath (October 10, 2018 - January 30, 2019): This is the only book in the list I haven’t read… and there is a very specific reason for it. When It Lives In The Woods was first released, I noticed that a lot of the screenshots people were posting included spiders… a lot of them. As an aracnophobic myself, I just couldn’t even begin the first chapter of that book. Then, It Lives Beneath was released and I noticed that there were some characters from the first book, so I said “mmm… maybe I do need to read the first book because it might be linked to the second one”, so I never read it. However, I have to agree with the fandom on the fact that we need more mystery and horror books in the app. Sure, I’m a sucker for romance books, but at the same time, I’m totally capable to understand that we need more diversity in terms of books. So I’m totally waiting for this series to be revisited in the future, the fans deserve it.

Mother Of The Year (August 30, 2019 - Present): This God-tier book is one of those gifts that you don’t expect to be that nice, but it ends up being a treasure. It definitely climbed up in my personal list and went straight to the Top 2 of my favorite books in the app. Nobody had much hope on this story, but we ended up meeting an adorable daughter, a mom that was a warrior, three LIs that were simply adorable, one of the best BBFs that Choices has given us and Luz Mendez, probably one of the best characters in the app. Overall, the plot and the characters (even the evil ones!) were so real and relatable that I have to admit I went through every single possible feeling while reading the book… I laughed, I cried, I screamed, and I got mad at times. And of course, my heart broke when we realized that this was a standalone book. But do I really want it to become a series? I’m not that sure. There is a part of me who wouldn’t like to see a second book because the ending was so precious that I wouldn’t like it to be ruined with a second book. On the other hand, I love the story so much that it makes me sad to realize we won’t be getting anything new from these beautiful people. However, I think the story is perfect to make a Christmas or a Halloween special, focused on the kids… maybe even a summer book! This book definitely deserves to be revisited in the future.

Nightbound (April 24, 2019 - July 31, 2019): I’m not surprised by the end of Nightbound, but I’m definitely sad. I had problems trying to understand the book at first because I’m not the type of person who’s into supernatural and magical stuff (I have to admit this also causes me some problems even when trying to understand the plots in books such as Bloodbound and The Elementalists, despite I think those are good series). I may even have to replay it to fully understand it. But there are some things that are pretty clear to me: the book is well written, the book is good, the book has awesome characters and most importantly, the book is DIFFERENT, something that this fandom has been asking for a long time now. So I was quite shocked when the writers said the book wasn’t doing as good as they thought. Does this book deserve a sequel? Absolutely! Even though I think it got a proper closure, I also think the plot has a lot of potential that could be explored. As that won’t be happening, I really hope to see some of these characters in Bloodblound 3, just as we saw Cal in Bloodbound 2.

Open Heart (February 22, 2019 - June 7, 2019): Sorry, but right now I think my opinion will be completely biased because this is my absolute favorite book in the app. There’s just nothing I don’t love about it. The balance between the romance and the professional stories is one of the bests (if not the best) in the app, the characters are well written, the medical plot is interesting and it addresses many of the current conflicts in health care… it’s just a masterpiece. On the romantic side, it doesn’t matter if you go straight to Bryce or Jackie or if you preferred the slow burn with Rafael (actually, can he be considered a “slow burn”?) or Ethan, the writers took their time for the MC to befriend them, we got to deeply know these people (except for Bryce and Jackie… I’m so waiting to know more about them!) before making a choice, and not all of the romance stories ended up with happy endings and fairy tails, so yeah… it’s my perfect book. Can’t wait for the second one!

Passport to Romance (March 20, 2019 - June 19, 2019): Probably my biggest disappointment of the year. The idea behind this story seemed nice, we could have learned about so many places, we could have laughed about so many of the troubles that people travelling on a budget face, we could have had a series instead of a standalone book. Instead, we got a MC who was always late, who seemed to be quite irresponsible with her job, who lived a life of luxury and who suddenly became BFF with people he/she had just met. Come on, they were nice people (even though at some point I just wanted to make Elliot disappear), but again… we had just met, it’s not like you can’t live without them. On top of that, I can’t even remember how many times this gang violated some rules… sure, Yvette was happy, but it might have cost you an expulsion from Europe, which is not nice if you’re a travel blogger. Let’s add up the non-sense of some situations. I know that books are supposed to be a mix between fiction and reality, but I think they went too far this time. I mean… why would the coach allow Ahmed to travel with a group of strangers instead of travelling with the rest of the team? Especially if he’s a professional athlete and he’s competing in an important championship... sorry guys, but there’s nothing I can rescue from this book.

Platinum (May 30, 2019 - September 19, 2019): This is definitely one of my favorite stories this year, and sorry… but I will never get over the fact that this is a standalone book. This book is so unique in so many ways… for the first time, we heard voices and we heard people singing… we also got Avery and Raleigh, two LIs that were gender customizable… the secondary characters were gold… the plot was so cliché but so attractive at the same time… and I could continue. Reading it every week was a real pleasure, you were actually waiting to find out what would happen the next week, and at some point, it seemed like it was the only book that people talked about. However, creating this book was expensive, and well... that just sucks. It would have been so nice to see our MC touring with her friends, taking new risks, visiting new places, and receiving the rock star treatment that she deserved. This book still has a solid fanbase (especially in Tumblr), so it’s just sad it won’t be revisited in the future.

N.FLYING'S 'ROOFTOP' WAS K-POP'S SLEEPER HIT OF 2019

HOW AN ONLINE FORUM, AN ANONYMOUS POST, AND WORD OF MOUTH GAVE THIS KOREAN BAND THE HIT THEY’D BEEN WAITING FOR

When did N.Flying feel the success of their sleeper hit, “Rooftop?” “Just now,” main vocalist Hwe Seung says, pointing down at the ground.

Their newfound acclaim brought them halfway around the world to play KCON LA, where Seung Hyub, JaeHyun, Cha Hun, and Hwe Seung are huddled in a makeshift dressing room at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Our interview competes with a chorus of cheers for rookie boy band ATEEZ, who cook kimbap at the #KCONFoodie station a few feet away. Over the booming of the fandemonium, the N.Flying members loudly enunciate their words.

“We just had a meet and greet with our fans right now,” he continues. “Right when ‘Rooftop’ started coming on, the fans started all singing along. And I felt like, ‘Oh, we are receiving so much love right now.’”

It was a long time coming for one of K-pop’s few idol bands — and it all started on SoundCloud.

Back in August 2018, the four-piece’s leader Seung Hyub unwittingly uploaded a sketch called “Rooftop Room” to his profile under the name JDON. The DIY upload was a relatively lo-fi collaboration with Hwe Seung, constructed around trappy percussion and blaring bass. It was well-received by their fandom, N.Fia (a portmanteau of their name and “Utopia”), so the group decided to create an N.Flying version.

The band released “Rooftop” to relatively modest excitement on January 2, 2019. The track did better than usual, reaching No. 643 on Melon’s daily chart before wrapping up music show promotions on February 8. But then something unprecedented happened.

A week later, an anonymous user posted their track to a popular Korean forum. Suddenly, their song took off, entering at No. 97 on Melon’s real-time Top 100. It continued to climb the charts, eventually taking over the local Gaon rankings for a few weeks. They even returned to televised music shows for an encore run.

N.Flying went four years without a music show win, a career-making milestone for K-pop artists. (For context, BTS’s first win in 2015 is seen as the turning point in their record-breaking career.) But it finally happened for the group at The Show on March 5.

The high-flying foursome was up against some of the industry’s biggest contenders: monster rookies (G)I-DLE and former Wanna One member Ha Sung Woon. When the band’s name was announced, Hwe Seung smiled brightly, and Seung Hyub choked up while giving a speech. Cha Hun maintained his cat-like cool, reaching over to console his members. But it was resident goofball JaeHyun who fully let his emotions flow.

Or as he put it: “I was really ugly crying.” (When I tell him I saw the video, he covered his face and jokingly let out a melodramatic “Noooooo!”)

This was a dramatic reversal of fortunes. A mere week before their comeback, their bassist Kwon Kwang Jin — who had been with the group since their Japanese debut in 2013 — abruptly left the lineup amid accusations that he sexually harassed fans. "We ... confirmed the fact of him dating a fan, so we have made the final decision for Kwon Kwang Jin to leave the team,” their company, FNC Entertainment, said in a statement last December, while also denying claims of sexual harassment.

Kwang Jin's departure was yet another setback for the band. N.Flying made their formal debut in Korea in 2015 as a quartet after nearly two years of delays. Initially, leader Seung Hyub was the sole frontman, defining his performance by his fluid transitions between singing and rapping. Cha Hun and Kwang Jin handled backing vocals, with JaeHyun on the drums.

Meanwhile, Hwe Seung almost went down the alluring flower boy path of a traditional idol, competing on the second season of Produce 101 in 2017. Let’s just say his high notes were fodder for instant replays. He didn’t make it to the final lineup that formed the now-defunct Wanna One. But it’s fitting that he wound up in a band the week after the show ended in June — his upper register is capable of a rough intensity that even a rockist could love.

The new maknae’s (youngest member) 2017 entry into the group didn’t only change the dynamics of their sound — it also marked their return from a lengthy hiatus. On a March 2019 episode of the Korean music program Yoo Hee Yeol’s Sketchbook, Seung Hyub revealed that they had taken a break to find their identity as a group. “But we are still not quite sure what our color is now,” he said at the time.

Now, N.Flying has a bit more breathing room to explore their sound on their own terms. A company-created track couldn’t break them into the Korean market, so it's poetic that the newly minted hitmakers’ breakthrough was their first-ever self-composed song. The group traverses an aural expanse of genre classifications that are in the process of breaking down. K-pop’s genre agnosticism is well-documented; it’s common for idol groups to cycle through a flurry of “concepts.” In that sense, N.Flying is true to the industry.

“I don’t think our approach is any different from any other artist in K-pop,” says guitarist Cha Hun, who cites Slash from Guns N' Roses and Creed as his favorite artists. “The only thing that really sets us apart is that our weapon of choice is that we’re a band. We try to think about, ‘How can we as a band reach our fans in the appropriate way?’”

But their ability to play instruments has drastically widened the spectrum of genres at their disposal, and their versatility is underscored by the deep cuts. The opening riff on “Just One Day” closely resembles The Smashing Pumpkins’ ’90s-alt anthem “Today” — until the track abruptly veers into a pastiche of 2000s-era pop-punk. “Lupin” is a much harder-hitting blend of J-pop and metal, refracted through dubstep wubs. Then songs like “Let Me Show You” take after The Lumineers’ style of stomp-rock with a poppified blues twist.

Still, their particular blend of rap and rock feels organic to them. Seung Hyub clarifies that the band doesn’t exactly discuss how they approach their mishmash of genres. “We basically think about what can we do as a group,” he tells MTV News. “It just comes naturally when we form those kinds of mixes.”

But genre fusions aren’t the only type of hybridization that’s defined their career. Their status as a rock band complicates their relationship to the typical idol formula.

In a visual-oriented music industry that revolves around intense choreography, N.Flying’s relatively static blocking makes them stand out. Granted, there are idol-worthy elements to their stage presence. Just watch a stage mix of “Rooftop,” and you can tell the members have clearly rehearsed that A Night at the Roxburyrealness. Not only that, but they put their own twist on K-pop fandom norms. Thanks to “Hot Potato,” you could say N.Fia find light sticks a-peeling, bringing actual potatoes (on sticks) to the band's promotions. Their status as a rock band reshapes the standards of an idol.

While the Jonas Brothers were breaking the barrier for boy band classification in the aughts, Korea simultaneously forged its own take on the idol band. N.Flying’s successful senior labelmate FTISLAND is billed as the first of their kind: a hybrid of gorgeous, flower-boy imagery and rock-leaning tracks that added a new layer to the K-pop landscape in 2007. CNBLUE carried that torch in 2010, achieving commercial success right out the gate with their Korean debut, “I’m a Loner.”

Which brings us to the latest set of bands on the K-pop scene, fronted by the likes of N.Flying and DAY6. While the latter has a more complicated relationship with boy band status, N.Flying openly embraces the idol label. “We feel like we’re an idol band,” Seung Hyub says. “We feel like we are [singers who can be role models] to everyone, whether it’s as an idol or as a band.”

When they took to the KCON LA stage, a sea of wrist-lights beamed a blue glow back at them. A gaggle of N.Fia were caught on camera holding up potatoes-on-sticks and N.Flying signs — including two posters shouting out 2Idiots, JaeHyun and Cha Hun’s YouTube channel. ("It was a platform where we could shorten the distance between us and our fans," the drummer says.) As Seung Hyub played a keyboard prelude to their career-making anthem, the 22,000-seat arena erupted in cheers.

"The thing that’s most visible is we have a lot more fans," the leader says. "There are so many more, so when we perform, we receive a lot more energy, and we’re able to give back a lot more as well."

Today, Sunday, March 29th, 2020 at 10:13 PM

My name is Emily. I have a 1 and 1/2 year old dog named Rocky. He is being euthanized due to human aggression and what is believed to be Sudden Onset Aggression Syndrome on April 2nd, 2020 at 11:00 AM EST. I’m ashamed to admit this, but he is my favorite dog. He’s my first “big” dog. I had another dog before him, Bella, who’s a chihuahua, and she is a very passive, very timid dog. She gets jealous easily. She doesn’t like Rocky because I brought him into our lives and she was jealous. He was always bigger than her, but he doesn’t know his strength and size, so he’ll accidentally hurt her. He tries to play with her but she doesn’t play. Not with him, not with toys. Anyways, I like to say I rescued Rocky. He was 8 weeks old when I got him. I paid $100 for him. He was in the possession of these people who were doing drugs, they had a filthy home, and neglected their puppies, although I don’t think they meant to really neglect them. There were three of them, if I could’ve taken them all I would’ve. But I took Rocky because he was the one they plopped in my arms. They said they’d probably keep him if I didn’t take him, so I prided myself on the fact I probably saved him from backyard breeders. I paid for him and left. It was raining when I walked out of their home, it was November 5th, 2018. He was born on August 31st, 2018. They gave me a blanket to take with us; his blanket. I lost it though. He adjusted very well into our family. He was a very good boy. I remember taking him for walks and he would try to walk the opposite way I was walking so I had to walk backwards to coax him into walking my direction. He finally got walking on a leash down pat, so I started socializing him with people. He loved people. In January 2019 we went to the vet for the first time. I remember something the vet technician said to him which has been replaying in my mind a lot lately; “I can’t wait to watch you grow up!” It warmed my heart when it was spoken, but now it causes my heart to ache unbearably. Why? Because although he did get the chance to grow up, he won’t get the chance to continue growing. He’ll never get gray and old. He’ll never be an old dog. A month after his vet appointment, he reacted in an aggressive manner to a stranger while on our walk. I will admit I did a shoddy job socializing him but in my defense it was a very bad winter and there was nobody besides the people in our home and friend group to socialize him with. I also didn’t feel comfortable socializing him with other dogs until he had his shots, which he got in January. He is a very smart boy, he learned how to sit, shake, high five, and lay down. He could also catch treats and toys in his mouth and that was so amazing to me. Anyways, he reacted negatively, and I thought it was a freak thing. I was under the impression that dogs aren’t inherently aggressive, you have to abuse them for them to be aggressive. His aggression didn’t stop, and it only intensified from there. I brought him to my animal science classroom at my vocational school, as they had a doggy day care, but he didn’t last 15 minutes. He was cowering, and very afraid of the other two dogs, and snapped at one of the dogs, and drew blood. It was just a very tiny scratch on the dogs nose from his tooth, but it was enough. I immediately apologized and took him home. He never acted aggressively towards any of the students or the teacher at the time, so I assumed that like most dogs of his breed, he was dog reactive. At least towards strange dogs. That seemed true enough, as eventually he had a doggy play date with my boyfriend’s beagle. They were both muzzled the entire time, but Rocky did surprisingly well with the dog until toys got involved. He was more interested in the people though. His aggression started very suddenly, but it was subtle at first. He was resource guard his food from the cats only, then he’d start lunging at strangers during walks, then started biting me when I wouldn’t let him bite someone, and then biting unprovoked towards members of our family, most notably my 9 year old sister.....

The XFL’s best moments so far

The XFL is back, and it’s given us some pretty exciting football thus far.

The XFL has made a comeback, and after two weeks in the books, the league gave us a lot of exciting football. Sure, it’s not the NFL, but having live football on TV less than a week after the Super Bowl was a real treat, and the games were pretty fun to watch.

The XFL has plenty of rules that the NFL should adopt, from putting betting lines on scoreboards to how players line up on kickoffs, so if we’re lucky, maybe the league will consider using some of them in the future.

For now, let’s break down some of the best moments from the XFL season so far. We’ll update this piece each week of the season, or at least however long the season lasts.

Week 3

Best play: This reverse pitch on a kick return touchdown

The XFL’s first-ever kickoff returned for a touchdown was a beauty. The St. Louis BattleHawks’ Keith Mumphery fielded it, then pitched it to Joe Powell on a reverse. Powell then took it to the house 90 yards:

This is a good example of the XFL’s kickoff rules being beneficial, too. The XFL lines up both teams on the same side as the receiving team. Players can then only move forward after the returner fields the ball, which makes the play a lot safer and more exciting.

Carter finished with three touchdowns during the Wildcats’ 39-9 win over the DC Defenders. During one of his scores, he literally flipped into the end zone after promising on-air he’d show off his backflip:

Best player: LA Wildcats QB Josh Johnson

Johnson helped the Wildcats get their first W of the season after throwing for 278 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 11.1 yards per attempt, too!

Johnson has played for a lot of different NFL teams, but he was with Washington most recently in 2018. He played in the last four games of the season due to injuries to Alex Smith and Colt McCoy. He finished the year 1-2 as a starter.

Boozer played college at Temple, and spent two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from May 2018 until December 2019. He’s the Defenders’ starting right tackle now, and after DC’s 27-0 win over the New York Guardians in Week 2, he shared some celebratory beers with fans after the game:

Week 1

Best in-game interview: Seattle Dragons C Dillon Day, who literally dropped an f-bomb on live television

No, I’m not kidding! In the first game of the season between Seattle and the DC Defenders, Day said the f-word on air after he was flagged for a personal foul penalty:

The best part is ABC immediately cutting off ESPN sideline reporter Dianna Russini’s microphone off, but it was too late. Everyone heard it, and it was glorious.

Sideline reporters’ access to coaches and players mid-game is one of the cooler parts about the XFL’s broadcasts — after a player makes a big play, they can be interviewed right after. This gives viewers real-time reactions you don’t see too often in the NFL.

Player of the week: Houston Roughnecks QB P.J. Walker

Houston’s QB threw for 272 yards and four touchdowns in the Roughnecks’ 37-17 win over the LA Wildcats, who then fired defensive coordinator Pepper Johnson two days after the game (!). Walker is only 5’11, but he stood tall in the pocket when he needed to, and didn’t shy away from making throws on the run, either:

Walker, who previously went by Phillip, played college football at Temple from 2013-16, and during his senior season he became the school’s all-time leading passer. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 2017, and was on and off their practice squad intermittently until August 2019.

St. Louis Battlehawks quarterback Jordan Ta’amu also is worthy of an honorable mention, going 20-of-27 passing for 209 yards and a touchdown, and added another 77 yards on the ground to beat the Dallas Renegades, 15-9.

Ta’amu had a brief stint with the Houston Texans in 2019, but was released within a month.

Coolest rule: Instant replay

The transparency the XFL has with instant replay is so awesome. On the TV broadcasts, you can hear the replay booth taking a look at each call, and the replay officials are mic’d up:

Over time, we have added many mobility options, both itemized and map-based. We feel that Season X is better experienced with a reduction in mobility. As with all changes, we’ll keep a close eye on how this affects the player experience.

Bug Fixes

Fixed the Heavy Shotgun not piercing through water in modes where it is available.

All Campfires now heal vehicles.

The Storm Scout Sniper Rifle no longer has perfect hip-fire accuracy after aiming down sights.

Performance[edit]

Improved level streaming performance for all platforms by optimizing the way assets are preloaded. This reduces cases in which players land on buildings with a low level of detail, particularly on Switch and Xbox One.

Art + Animation[edit]

The Ride the Pony Emote is now a traversal Emote.

Players who earned the Ride the Pony Emote from the Season 2 Battle Pass have been given a new, additional traversal Emote: Pony Up!

Added new bullet impact sounds.

Increased the volume of distant gunfire and Gliders.

Increased Chest volume and audio range by 10%.

Bug Fixes

Ambient sound no longer cuts out when players walk between biomes.

Pressing the Main Menu button on controllers now defaults focus to the Main Menu (right side of the screen).

Auto-fire system improvements:

We’ve re-tuned Auto-fire for every weapon with this update and would love specific and detailed weapon feedback so that we can continue to improve it.

If you want to try it out and don’t use Auto-fire already, go into your HUD settings and enable Auto-fire.

Added a new setting: Tap to Search/Interact for Controllers.

Added a message for devices on Android that have the Sensor Pressure settings (S8, S8+, S9, S9+, and Note 9) to inform players about the settings being active.

Players would unintentionally return to the Home screen due to this setting being active.

We’ve increased the size of buttons and icons in the following areas:

“First team to reach the elimination goal wins!” message won’t remain throughout the whole match in Team Rumble.

Advanced Storm Controller

Now you can replicate the Battle Royale 10 wave storm, or you can create your own multi-phase storm.

Advanced Storm Beacon

This allows you to customize specific phases or to set the number of phases of the Advanced Storm Controller.

Weapon-Free Zone

While in a Weapon-Free Zone, a player cannot fire a weapon, swing a pickaxe, throw a grenade, or use items.

Junkyard Juke LTM

Bring junk to the incinerator to receive points for your team. The bigger piece of junk, the more points.

Sky Station Showdown LTM

Battle the other squads to claim the most points from the capture zones! Climb to the top of the Fast Food towers while protecting your VIP! Use impulse grenades and other power ups to blast other teams out of the capture zones!

Islands[edit]

Added the Grid Island – A flat island entirely covered with grid squares to help with building measurements. The white grid square marks the center of the island. This island is low to the ocean to give the most room for building possible.

Gameplay[edit]

Added options for Team Rotation to allow for rotating between teams at various rounds.

Added 3rd, 4th, 5th , 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 20th, 40th, 60th options

Every Round and Every Other Round are still available, too.

Added new Reset Times Triggered When Receiving From setting to Trigger device, which upon receipt, resets the counter for the number of times the Trigger has been activated.

Timer

The Timer’s display now flashes when the timer completes.

Fixed an issue where Timers would not be synchronized between all players.

Fixed an issue where Timer would trigger 1 second too late.

Fixed an issue where timer would play a sound every time it spawned (rather than only on placement).

Fixed Timer Device being able to be destroyed. It’s now indestructible.

New Options

Team (Any, 1-16. Default: Any). Which team can start or stop the Timer.

Complete Once (Yes, No. default: No). Will lock the device after it’s completed once. Allows the Timer to be used as a ‘Fastest Time’ trigger. A locked timer requires to be Reset via a received message before it can be used again.

Complete on End (Yes, No. Default:Yes). Whether or not the timer counts as Completed when it hits 00:00. Set to No to be used as a race to trigger it before it ends.

Show Trigger (Yes / No. Default: Yes). Shows or Hides the trigger pad on the device. When No, you’ll need to remotely trigger the device rather than having players manually activate it by touching the pad.

Alarm Audio (None / Siren. Default: Siren). Enables or disables the siren setting.

Alarm Volume (Very Low, Low, Medium, Loud, Very Loud. Default: Very Loud).

Score Value (-20 – 20. Default: 0). Provides score to the person who triggered / completed the timer when it completes.

Lap Time Team (Activating Team, None, 1-16. Default: None). Defines which team to update the lap time for when this timer is completed. Lap time is a new option in the Island’s UI Settings that can be shown on the scoreboard and used as a win condition.

Lap Time Style (Count Up, Count Down. Default: Count Down). Counting up sends the total time elapsed to the scoreboard. Counting down sends the remaining time.

Added Receiver Support:

Start when Receiving From. Starts the timer.

Pause When Receiving From. Pauses the timer.

Reset When Receiving From. Resets the timer back to its initial state (auto-starting it if the auto-start setting is on).

Enable When Receiving From. Powers-up, allowing it to be used.

Disable When Receiving From. Powers-down, stopping it counting-down or receiving input.

Complete when Receiving From. Completes the Timer, stopping it, triggering the alarm and updating the lap time (if set).

Set Lap Time when Receiving From. Sends the lap time to the scoreboard (if set) without stopping the timer.

Added Transmitter Support:

When Complete Transmit On. Sends a signal on a specific channel when the timer completes.

Color Changing Block

New Options

Enable on Minigame Start option (Yes, No. Default: Yes). Whether it can be touched to change color at the start of the minigame, or needs to be enabled before doing so.

Adding Receiver support

Enable on Received From. Allows this to be changed in color when touched.

Disable on Received From: Disallows color changing on touch.

Reset on Received From: Resets to the default color.

Set on Received From: Sets the block to the team of the player that sent the signal, allowing for remote activation.

Get ready for some high intensity road trip action as you assist Quinn and company in broadcasting her Song of the Summer. You never know what challenges and obstacles you may find along the way, and getting there is half the adventure. Load up the van and gather your group because it’s time to Hit the Road!

Introducing the Locker!

Your favorite Emotes, Music Packs, and Loading Screens are now available in Save the World. Head over to the Locker tab to check them out!

General[edit]

The first part of the Locker has arrived in Save the World. You can now use your Emotes, Music Packs, and Loading Screens.

The Locker is currently shared between Save the World and Battle Royale, so if you change it in either location, it will change in both.

Only Emotes, Music Packs, and Loading Screens are available for Save the World at the moment. We plan to support more types of cosmetics in future updates. Read more about this here.

Emotes:

All types of Emotes now work in Save the World: Dances, Emoticons, Sprays, and Toys. Any emotes you own are available in all modes.

You can slot up to 6 Emotes in the Locker for quick access on the Emote Wheel. Additional Emotes can be accessed by paging the wheel up or down.

You can use Dances and Emoticons in the Lobby.

Everyone who currently has access to play Save the World will keep Ride the Pony, which is now a traversal Emote. You can now use it in Battle Royale and Creative too!

Players who purchase Save the World Founders packs will also receive Ride the Pony.

Everyone keeps Dance Moves as well, as players in all modes start with that Emote.

Missions + Systems[edit]

Introducing: Hit the Road!

Grab three other players and help Quinn get to the Radio Station to spin her Song of the Summer in this road trip adventure.

Quinn travels in a hover-truck, complete with a mobile storm defense shield.

Along the route are four randomized objectives, each with challenging gameplay and a variety of upgrades.

Get to the radio station, and protect Quinn from a final enemy wave. Hopefully you’ve collected enough traps, ammo, and resources to secure the victory!

If the vehicle loses all of its health the road trip ends, but players earn rewards based on the number of objectives completed.

You start the trip without your gear or supplies, making scavenging and harvesting a top priority.

You keep your trap schematics, and start with a few “hand-me-down” weapons, but weapon crafting is disabled.

Weapons with appropriate perks are scattered throughout the route, increasing your chances of survival without your weapon schematics.

Chests in Hit the Road spawn tier-appropriate weapons, traps, and resources.

Unlike previous events, Hit the Road uses Power Levels instead of Storm Shield Defense progress to match players to the correct difficulty, bringing more balance to the group.

If you are knocked out you will have to wait until your team reaches or completes an objective before you will respawn. Be careful out there!

New event quests have also been added to give players a chance to earn even more Hit the Road tickets.

Search everything you can for cassette tapes, helping Lars craft the perfect summer mix tape, and earning some Hit the Road event tickets.

Legendary Troll Stash Event Llama is available

Cost: 1000 Hit the Road Tickets

Llamas now contain Cyberpunk Heroes and Vacuum Tube Weapon Schematics

Mutant Storm Mission Alerts grant Hit the Road Tickets and are more numerous.

Miniboss Mission Alerts no longer grant Event Tickets and are less numerous.

Safe Harbor quest: Reduced Evacuate the Shelter quest requirement from 2 to 1.

Updated the mission rewards for “Eliminate and Collect” and “Resupply”.

Eliminate and Collect now rewards Hero XP and/or Survivor XP.

Resupply now rewards Schematic XP and a random crafting ingredient.

Known issue: Sometimes the crafting ingredient fails to be rewarded if players do not finish enough bonus objectives.

Some Heroes and Schematics from the Birthday Llama for Year 2 used to be locked. They have been updated to allow Recycling and Transformation. Any items that were adjusted will continue to not take up inventory space.

Shadow Ops Heroes, Military Weapons, and Vacuum Tube Weapons have been moved to the Expansion Tab in the Collection Book. These items may now be researched/recruited.

Exploding Deathburst has been replaced with a new modifier: Exploding Death Bomb. When Husky Husks, Sploders, and Riot Huskies are eliminated they leave behind a destructive bomb with a short fuse.

With the changing of the season, event ticket rewards have been removed from Wargames Daily Quests and Wargames Mission Rewards.

Mission Rewards for Wargames are reduced while Daily Wargames Quest rewards are increased:

Bug Fixes

Hover tooltips will no longer prevent mouse clicks in the Settings menu.

We discovered that the default Push to Talk (PTT) setting for new console players was “On,” which was unintentional. The default is now “Off,” and we are performing a soft reset of the Push to Talk setting for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch players. This is a one-time reset, and further changes to the setting will persist as normal.

Players who have manually changed their PTT settings in the past have had their PTT reset to “Off,” but they are able to change it back to “On.”

The Recent Players list has been re-enabled on all platforms. Players in your Battle Royale Squad or Save the World Team will be automatically added to this list as you play.

This list automatically clears when you close the game.

Bug Fixes

Fixed an issue in which a friend invite wasn’t properly being cleared.

Performance[edit]

A new mesh streaming solution has been enabled on Xbox One, Switch, and PC. This brings improved memory usage and streaming performance.

This will be rolled out to other platforms in upcoming releases.

Optimized UI performance to improve in-match framerate.

With Season X, the PC version of Fortnite requires a DirectX 11-capable graphics card to run the game, as mentioned in our blog post.

Implemented ray-traced distance field shadows on Switch.

This improves rendering performance and also provides increased shadow range.

Enabled multi-threaded particle simulation on Switch.

This improves the framerate, especially during skydiving.

Optimized GPU occlusion queries on Xbox One.

This provides a boost to dynamic resolution and performance.

Mobile

iPhone 8 scalability settings have been updated to be more inline with similar devices. Overall performance and stability have been improved.

Known Issues[edit]

A current known issue is that players must first close the game on one platform before they’ll be able to connect to another platform using the same account. This issue will be resolved in the v10.10 update.

Albums to Watch For in August 2019

The new month of August begins this week, which means a whole new batch of albums will be hitting shelves just in time to add to your late summer playlist. With highly anticipated releases from Taylor Swift, Tool, Slipknot and more, August is gearing up to be a great month for new releases.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves new music. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of our picks for the albums to watch for in August 2019. Here are six (and a few more) we think will be worth checking out.

1. Volbeat, ‘Rewind, Replay, Rebound’: Volbeat get eclectic with their upcoming album ‘Rewind, Replay, Rebound,’ out Friday. From the pop-punky “Leviathan” and the classic rock-leaning “Last Day Under The Sun” to the rockabilly “Pelvis on Fire” and hard rocking “Cheapside Sloggers,” there seem to be a lot of different elements being dealt out with this album. However different though, all of these singles are memorable and rock hard, which bodes well for the album. (8/2)

2. Slipknot, ‘We Are Not Your Kind’: Slipknot will be releasing their sixth studio album, ‘We Are Not Your Kind,’ in August. Frontman Corey Taylor said to NME in 2018 about the tone of the album, “It’s complicated, it’s dark, it’s heavy, it’s heavy, it’s melodic, it’s fierce, it’s angry, it’s raw as hell.” That seems to check out, as singles “Unsainted” and “Solway Firth” are intense, aggressive pieces of metal. 3. Sleater-Kinney, ‘The Center Won’t Hold’: Sleater-Kinney continues their reunion this year with their upcoming ninth studio album, ‘The Center Won’t Hold.’ Produced by St. Vincent, the album features some of the band’s most biting lyricism and cultural commentary to date. Unfortunately, it will be the band’s last album with drummer Janet Weiss, who announced that she was leaving the band in July. (8/16)

Alexis Bellino is opening up about the end of her 14-year marriage to ex-husband Jim Bellino.

On Tuesday, the mother of three made a surprise visit to The Real Housewives of Orange County, where she sat down with current Housewife Emily Simpson for a candid conversation about life after divorce.

“It was just a really broken marriage for a lot of years,” Alexis, 42, said. “There just comes a time when you realize, it’s time to move on.”

It was the first time Alexis had appeared on the Bravo show since her departure from the series back in season 8. She originally joined RHOC when the franchise was in its fifth season, showcasing her life with Jim, 57, and their three children: son James, 13, and twin daughters Melania and Mackenna, who turn 12 in November.

Of course, this being reality TV, the Bravo cameras caught both the ups and the downs of Alexis and Jim’s marriage — including a recurring conflict they had over Alexis’ desire to spend time with her castmates.

“Wives stay home,” he told her during one particularly tense scene, replayed on Tuesday’s episode. “There’s only so much time in a day to raise my children. You’ve got to say no to some things.”

Moments like that left Alexis and Jim moving in opposite directions.

“I think in life when you’re with someone, there’s two options. You can grow apart or you can grow together,” she told Simpson. “We grew apart.”

“Divorce sucks, it’s not easy,” Alexis added. “I think it’s almost harder than death. It is a death, the death of a 14-year marriage.”

That said, Alexis did make it a point to note that she and Jim are co-parenting well together.

“I love the relationship that I see between Jim and the kids,” she said.

Alexis and Jim finalized their divorce in August 2018.

Per their spousal support agreement, obtained by PEOPLE, Jim agreed to pay Alexis $6,000 per month in child support ($2,000 for each child) until each child passes the age of 18, as well as $10,000 a month in spousal support.

In addition, Jim took two of their California properties while Alexis kept their mansion in San Juan Capistrano. She also got another amount of $250,000 “upon the signing of the Judgement by both parties.”

Jim had filed for divorce that June, citing irreconcilable differences. The former couple then released a joint statement after Jim’s filing was made public.

“It is with heavy hearts that we inform the public of our mutual decision to end our marriage– but it’s important to us that you know we made this choice together, with love, and as the best decision for our children’s future,” Jim and Alexis explained.

“We hold one another in the highest regard as spouses, and especially as parents. We have agreed on 50/50 custody of the children, and we ask that you respect our privacy by not theorizing about the reasons for our divorce,” they said. “Our marriage was a good one, but we were never perfect people or spouses– no one is and in this respect, we were a lot like millions of other married people.”

They went on to admit in their statement that they drifted apart over the course of their marriage.

“And, just like millions of other married people, we simply grew apart over time — there is no ill will or bad blood between us,” they said. “We ultimately want you to feel happy for us, respect our privacy during this difficult time, and pray for our mutual benefit as we weather this storm.”

The statement concluded, “To the fans who have supported us since the beginning, we’re grateful for how you cheers us on — we ask that you continue to cheer as our lives and the lives of our children change and ultimately improve as a result of this difficult decision.”

Jealousy is NOT a bad thing. It is nothing but a very common human feeling. It is absolutely normal to feel that pinching sensation in your heart from time to time. However, it becomes a problem when people start acting on their feelings. When jealousy starts to affect every other aspect of your life, you should be aware that it is well on its way to consume you. You may find yourself getting angry at everything and feeling bitter. This will eventually leave you feeling frustrated and lost.

Social media, such as Instagram and Facebook, can also trigger feelings of jealousy. We compare our life to the seemingly perfect lives others live and feel unhappy. Insecurity also often leads to jealousy. When we feel that we are not good enough or feel our position is threatened, we often resent the person or people who are doing better than us. Increased jealousy often correlates with lower self-esteem.

Types Of Jealousy

The two common types of jealousy are romantic jealousy and competitive jealousy.

a. Romantic Jealousy

Relationships can be a lot smoother and stronger when any of the parties don’t get excessively jealous. Jealousy often stems from insecurity – when we feel like we are doomed to be hurt, rejected, or deceived. If we don’t deal with this feeling first, we are likely to fall victim to feelings of distrust, insecurity, or extreme jealousy in any relationship, happy or not. The negative feelings we often experience about ourselves have their origins in the early experiences of our lives when we were children. We often mimic the feelings our parents or caretakers displayed toward us, each other, or themselves. We subconsciously recreate, replay, or react to familiar dynamics in our present relationships.

The extent of our self-critical attitudes as kids most often shapes how our critical inner voice affects us as adults, especially in relationships. No matter how unique our experiences may be, we all basically have this inner critic in ourselves who rule us to some degree. All too often, these negative thoughts slowly start to grow into much more serious, ingrained attacks on our partner or even ourselves.

b. Competitive Jealousy

In competitive jealousy, we are jealous of others – their strengths, lifestyles, successes, and relationships. We tend to see only the good things in other’s lives and only the disappointments in ours.

It is completely normal to pine for what others have as well as to feel competitive. But how we channel these feelings is very critical in determining our level of happiness and satisfaction from life. If we allow these feelings to rule us and tear down others or ourselves, it will clearly have a destructive outcome with demoralizing results. However, when we don’t let these jealous feelings guide our actions, we can actually be more goal-oriented and more accepting of ourselves.

It is absolutely fine to feel a bit competitive. However, if we ruminate this into an attack on another person or criticizing ourselves, we will end up hurting someone or getting hurt.

Here are general tips for dealing with feelings of jealousy.

How To Deal With Jealousy – 10 Best Techniques

1. Practice Techniques For Stopping Negative Thoughts

When we get intensely emotional, our brain starts to focus on a million theories about who is at fault and how we are the victim. This is very unhealthy. Try techniques for stopping negative thoughts. It can be something as easy as saying to yourself that these are not healthy for you or anyone else and start focusing on something positive, such as listing out positive thoughts about yourself.

Practice mindfulness. It will help you calm your runaway emotions. Tune into your body and soul to identify your feelings. Take deep breaths and detach yourself from the intensity of those negative emotions. Share your feelings with a friend or your partner after you have calmed down.

2. Assess Yourself

If you and your partner are in a secure relationship, and yet you are feeling jealous, you need to look at yourself first and explore your own traumatic experiences. It is well known that a person’s basic attachment style determines their jealous reactions. People who have secure attachments in their childhood – with their parents, siblings, and caregivers – tend to be less dependent and jealous and have higher self-esteem. They have lesser feelings of inadequacy than people who are insecure. You need to ask yourselves these questions:

“How was your relationship with your parents and early caregivers?” “Do you lack self-worth?” “Do you have feelings of emptiness or anxiety?” “Was the atmosphere in your home critical or repressive?” “Were your caregivers unreliable or hurtful?”

Even though early influences can shape your character, a skilled therapist can be of great help. They can help you work through your concerns and build self-esteem.

3. Assess Your Relationship

The best method to overcome jealousy is to take a deep, hard look at your relationship. If your relationship is built on respect, love, and trust, and if your partner’s behavior reflects their words, you have no reason to be suspicious and jealous.

If they are not honest with you, naturally, this will trigger your insecurities. When you are in a relationship that is insecure, you will have your jealousy buttons pushed, and often. No one can force you to do anything, and it is your choice. But, if you stay in the relationship, most likely, you will feel jealous sometimes.

4. Recognize Your Jealousy

When we accept our feelings of jealousy, it loses its hold on us – because we no longer let it shame us. Acknowledging to yourself that you are jealous opens the door to growth and learning, and therefore, healing. Learn from your feelings of jealousy. Use it as inspiration to grow. Rather than being jealous of a person’s talent, take it upon yourself to be better at what you do.

5. Let It Go

You don’t need to feel this stabbing pain in of jealousy. Breathe deeply and allow it to leave your body through the air you breathe out. Repeat until you have composed yourself and redirected your energy toward thinking positive thoughts.

6. Talk About It

If jealousy is affecting you and your life, it is important that you find the right person to talk to. You need to have a healthy way to express what you feel. The people who support us and who help us better ourselves are the kind of people we need to talk to about our feelings.

Venting to friends is fine as long as we overcome our irrational thoughts and feelings. We need to acknowledge that these extreme emotions are irrational and exaggerated. It is also very wise to seek help from a therapist. They will help us make sense of our feelings and teach us how to control them while behaving in a healthier, adaptive way.

7. Celebrate Your Positive Traits

Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. It is important that you respect your talents and accomplishments before getting awed by others. Use them as inspiration to be better, feel better. Don’t give up on yourself or your dreams because you are busy chasing other people’s. So what she can play the guitar better than you? You can cook like Gordon Ramsay! Accept yourself first.

8. Don’t Act Out

Our inner voice can sometimes push us to do something that can hurt us or others in the long run. When we fly into a state of jealousy, it may convince us to give up on ourselves or stop going after what we are good at.

It often leads to self-sabotage. It can make us punish someone we love. We may end up lashing out at our partner. We may end up hurting and undermining our partners’ feelings for us and cause them to avoid engaging with us out of fear. We may cause them to become less open about their feelings and be more closed.

Hence, the next time you feel jealous, try changing your view of the situation and approach the issue rationally.

9. Be Competitive

We should have a personal goal of being our best. We need to feel like ourselves and embrace the qualities that make us us. Being competitive allows us to feel inspired and connect with people we want to be like. If we want to be respected, we need to be considerate and mindful in our interactions. If we act with integrity and pursue our goals, we conquer the hardest battle we face – the struggle to become our true selves.

10. Get Rid Of Excessive Physical Energy

To get a clear head, you may need to literally run it off. When we get extremely hyper and charged, we have to get rid of that energy somehow so that we can re-regulate and use that time to compose ourselves. Try boxing, heading to the gym, jumping jacks, or even taking a cold shower. Calm down and give yourself enough time and space to control your emotions and do a reality check.

When in a relationship, it is important to have an open, honest communication channel with our partners. If we hope to gain their trust and them to get ours, we have to pay heed to what they say without jumping to conclusions or becoming defensive.

This will let us be connected and kind, even when we are feeling insecure and jealous. It takes a great level of emotional maturity to deal with jealousy. We should be willing to challenge our inner voice and all the insecurities it creates within us. We should also exercise willpower to take a step back and resist acting out. We can do this – we are a lot stronger than we believe.

If we learn how to deal with jealousy in a mature way, we become more secure in ourselves as well as our relationships. Don’t forget, jealousy is a natural reaction. It only becomes problematic when it starts becoming persistent. Whenever you find yourself feeling jealous, recognize the problem, and look deeper into your soul. Use it as an opportunity to better yourself.
