Out of sight, out of - wait.

#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#wei wuxian#granny wen#a-yuan#It's always fascinating how colours translate from the page to the screen.#It would probably surprise a lot of people to see what some of these comics actually look like in physical form.#My lighter colours takes about 3-4 washes before it shows up on scan which means it tends to ripple the page.#And my yellows and oranges are drastically different colours when scanned compared to the ink colour.#There's about 20 or so comics where everyone's hair is purple - because it scanned in the exact same colour as my light grey.#Wait my book is right here in front of me so I can...yeah...Comics 57-77 were indeed purple.#This is all to say - is it not fascinating how what we see is often not the full truth of what the subject truly is?#Is it not fascinating to open another episode that reminds us that despite everyone's claims they could totally spot the evil YLLZ-#-The man walks around among them for months as no more than a man haggling for deals like the rest.#It's almost as if he's just a person. It's almost as if none of us - no matter what we do are really anything more than just a person.#Your good acts will be overtaken by how other's interpret you in negative light.#Just as easily are people willing to forgive crueler actions if they hold you in high esteem.#But what's real? Is the page I hold the real version of this comic? Is it the one you look at?#Is the man known as Wuxian the most himself when he is alone or on the battlefield?#Perhaps he is and has always been a scared orphan boy lost in the market.#I think there is no good answer to any of these questions.#But I do know that panic rising in WWX as he frantically looks for A-yuan was for more than one boy.#To be human is to have layers around a delicate center. We only really grow around our wounds from childhood.#In other words; Donkey from Shrek would also probably call Wei Wuxian an onion. I'll see myself out now.

Some tidbits from The On1y One eps 1 and 4.
The scene in episode one where Sheng Wang and Jiang Tian are officially introduced to each other by their parents is actually quite funny.
When children respectfully greet elders they meet for the first time or haven't seen in a while, the elders will respond with guai (乖). It's said to acknowledge their good behavior. iQ's translation of good boy is better than Gaga's behave. Guai can also be used to tell a naughty child to behave, but in this scene, Jiang Tian is obviously being a little shit and purposely misinterpreting Sheng Wang's "call him ge?" as a greeting to an elder and responding with guai. The tone Jiang Tian uses is perfect. It's exactly how we old people say it to kids. 😂
In episode 4, when Gao Tianyang is amazed by Sheng Wang's question answering speed, he says kao (靠), which is actually closer to fuck than iQ's darn it or Gaga's damn.
Tumblr media
The pronunciation sounds like cow in English, and a cow is niu (牛) in Mandarin.
Tumblr media
Niu is also slang for awesome. So when Gao Tianyang spells out cow and says niu, he is making a pun and saying Sheng Wang is awesome. iQ got the pun part right but messed up the awesome part, and Gaga got the awesome part but left out the pun.
Tumblr media
Some background on Sheng Wang's pfp here.
Tumblr media
During the fight scene, people watching the series on iQ were confused about who was talking about Sheng Wang's mom because there was no subtitle for what the bully said under his breath. Gaga subtitled it, but only in English. There are no Chinese subs there for some reason.
Tumblr media
"Old Ding" (iQ) or "Uncle Ding" (Gaga) = ding lao tou (丁老頭).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is an example of 丁老頭 😅 The 丁 is the nose.

LOST: Season One
#lost#abc lost#lost one cap per ep#this was a project i was gonna do anyways but the timing worked out that i could post the first one on the 20th anniversary!#this is one cap per ep every season. from left to right. and this is important: its not a cap that sums up each ep#its a cap that REPRESENTS each ep. the way i choose them varies every episode#sometimes its an utterly iconic moment. sometimes it reps the theme of the ep. or it hits with a theme of the character themselves#sometimes the cap i use won't even involve the character whose centric episode it is. trust me. this makes sense#anyways i'll give a good example: for outlaws i was so tempted to use a shot of the judgemental soulful gaze of the boar#or perhaps sawyer in the rain after he shot that man#but! i used that shot of sawyer's dads legs as sawyer is hiding under the bed. i feel it worthy because this moment. this scene#is literally a core part of sawyer. it's a defining moment of his backstory. of his character. so yeah. makes sense yeah?#anyways some eps had Too Much going on (lord i could make one of these for exodus part 1 alone) and some not enough#or well they DID but like lacked in caps that Hit in the way im thinking. thank heavens charlie shot ethan cuz i was worried about that ep#i was like ''aw shit what am i gonna use'' and then an iconic lost moment happened kjhfdsjkhfd#anyways. there are 25 eps in season one. so im really glad that the last ep contains one of the moment iconic visuals/moments in all of los#oh i should add that these caps are unedited. i did not fuck with the colours or saturation in any way#i found 'em and i pieced them together. this is harder than it sounds. i browsed through all the screencaps of every ep of season one#and i will do so the remaining five seasons#some of these were super easy like i knew what cap i'd be using before i even started (eg. do no harm. the moth. in translation)#but some took some real Thinking. and some eps even had several caps that would have worked. this has all been quite interesting#also yeah. y'all already know damn well what cap i'm using for the very last episode

Re: many of the various about the Gorn or listing SNW's handling of the Gorn as one of its major problems.
Perception not matching reality, what is/is not a monster is a huge theme throughout SNW.
Ghost of Illyria – Those light monsters didn’t murder the Illyrians, they are the Illyrians and were trying to save Pike and Spock all along. Everyone (except Una ofc) learns a lesson that Illyrians can’t be lumped in with the Augments and need greater understanding Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach – Turns out that nice lovely civilization is literally torturing children. The terrorists are actually trying to save those children. The Serene Squall – Surprise the counselor is a pirate Ad Astra Per Aspera – Continues with the Illyrians deserve understanding theme. Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow – That helpful reporter is actually a Romulan. Even notorious tyrant and mass murderer Khan Noonien Singh was once a scared child. Lost in Translation – Starfleet is the monster, accidentally torturing and killing a life form they didn't know existed. Under the Clock of War – Turns out the lovely ship’s doctor is actually the Butcher of J’Gal and capable of murdering someone in cold blood. War can make a monster of anyone.
Yet so many people seem to think they’re not going to pull something similar with the Gorn? Even though the show has taken time to establish that the Gorn are intelligent and have a religion?
The thing about the Gorn is that people have died - La’an’s family, Hemmer, some other members of the Enterprise crew, nearly the entire crew of the Cayuga, multiple colonies - and possibly Marie will be added to that list before the two-parter is done. That creates an environment where it’s understandable that the SNW characters would not want to have their perception that the Gorn are monsters challenged, because the harm they have caused is so personal.
It creates a really interesting conflict for the crew, because how do you find understanding, how to you fight the will for revenge, when there’s been so much pain?
I could be wrong about this being the route the SNW writers are going down, but I’m really excited to see if they do.
Posting this as a response to several earlier confessions.

I was 19 or so and relatively newly broken up with my first girlfriend. I had a girlfriend from a really young age for many, many years when I was at school. I was kind of single and then I started experiencing wild things. Among other things, I went to Valentino's.  I used to deliver drinks in the VIP area and was already a bird of paradise back then with shaved eyebrows, make-up and a naked torso, so I was able to work there. And then I met a - young people would say MILF - let's say she was my age now, about 40, for me she was old, I was 19. And I thought she was really hot, I was single and after work she said: Well, what are you up to, will you come to my place? I said, all right, and off I went in her Porsche. We then drove to her big house in a rich neighborhood and she said to me: Will you stay with me for a few days? I have three days' vacation. I thought, ey, it's Friday, I have to go to school on Monday, I was in the middle of my A-levels.  And she was like, whatever. I was like: I don't have any clothes: she was like: I'll buy you everything, tomorrow is Saturday, we can go shopping. And then I spent three days with her and had the time of my life. And then she said to me: I have to go back to work tomorrow. And I was like: What do you do for a living? She said: Well, if you had booked me, it would have been a really expensive long weekend for you. That means I was with a prostitute without knowing it. She then told me where she worked, practically in a luxury brothel and because she was older, she was the madam, so to speak. 10 years or so later, I saw her again at some party. She recognized me, I recognized her, we passed each other and gave each other a professional nod and then went our separate ways.
Chris Harms on his encouter with a prostitute when he was 19.

I feel like I need to address this kinda as I know my post may give off a vibe despite having most say how I feel but I do really like Tremolo. Like he's out right my favorite character when I spoke about a top 5 with the friend group. Now his problematic behavior doesn't phase me at all it's more the fact that I've seen some people kind of defend it or ignore it to ship him w the girls (which is sorta iffy to me plot wise but fandoms will always hop onto ships if the show teases it) besides the girl bs, Tremolo is the best to me because it's refreshing to see a character with all these faults and it's not like they're trying to hide it. It's not only the faults but more the brother complex stuff as he is willing to do anything for Phaser. It was the more kind of selflessness to the actions even if Phaser doesn't deserve it for his actions. Not towards Tremolo but the plot overall. I like Phaser too but I am upset for a lack of any punishment towards his actions thou I'm aware it's unlikely because he's gained a lot of popularity amongs jp fans and I'd like to see Space Dragon lore as im so interested in it.

I love how Christopher Pike was willing to blow up the Federation's shiny new mining station based solely on the word of Uhura and some funky brain scans. what I wouldn't give to hear that conversation between Pike and Admiral April.
“so Ensign Uhura said these extra-dimensional beings had… attached themselves to the deuterium somehow?”
“Yes. And the automated refining process was killing them en masse.”
“so you destroyed the entire station.”
“Yes.”
“And you didn't try, say, dismantling the machinery aboard the station itself? disconnecting the reactor? literally anything else?”
“Uh…”
“Can we speak to these hypothetical deuterium ghosts? have you received any further communication from them?”
“Well, Ensign Uhura said she was seeing her deceased colleague as a zombie, and then he wasn't a zombie anymore. Which means we did the right thing.”
“and by the right thing, you mean destroying Bavali Station with photon torpedoes.”
“…Yes.”
“Chris, what the hell.”
“They were dying! I had to do something!”
“And the Federation's policy on that is very clear, yes, but we expect you to do a bit more digging before you jump to opening fire on a Starfleet installation! Now I am supposed to go in there and tell Fleet Admiral T'Pol that you blew up our new refinery because your greenhorn comms officer saw a ghost?”
“We evacuated it first.”
“Chris. For god's sake. Three months ago your first officer was on trial for lying about what species she was to get into Starfleet, which your science officer saw as an opportunity to steal the ship and fly off to Cajitar IV on a hunch!”
“Would this be a bad time to mention I also traded Setlik II's entire grain supply to some Orions for a time portal?”
“Chris!!”
“Don't worry, we got the grain back.”

"My favorite thing to come from NuTrek is definitely the building up of Kirk and Uhura's relationship. Their friendship in both the AOS movies and SNW show has alway been enjoyable to watch."
