Merlyn being the female counterpart of Merlin would be fascinating. She has to pretend to be her own mouthpiece, because no one takes her seriously. Uther does take her seriously and always listens to what she has to say. I live for angst, so let's say that...

Uther: I'm to marry Lady Elsa.

Merlyn: *nods* A sensible choice with all the mess that has happened after Vortigern tried the coup.

Uther: There's a problem, though.

Merlyn: Oh?

Uther: She and her knight are in love with one another.

Merlyn: Nothing will come of it.

Uther: Agreed. But it's going to he uncomfortable seeing him pine for her from affair.

Merlyn: Marriages aren't always love matches.

Uther: I know.

Merlyn: If that's all, I'll be taking my leave. *turns to leave*

Uther: Merlyn, I- I could always marry you.

Merlyn: *shakes her head* Good night, Uther.

Uterpendragon thought hard. For one he could push thru with his initial proposal to Queen Elsa, marry her and seal the alliance. On the other hand, he just lost the love of his life, Igraine. He knew well the pain of losing someone he loved. Merlyn had a point, marriages aren't always love matches.

Uterpendragon weds the Queen Elsa. but with it comes a few interesting changes. First he calls over Ser Ambrose, trusted confidante of the queen. He bestows upon him a new title and a new sigil: the combined houses of Vortigern and Pendragon. Phoeex and Dragon in holy union. In this order comes the duty to protect the lords and princesses that'd be borne out of this dynasty.

Everyone is shocked at the move, even the king's mage Merlyn.

The court and the barons balk at the new declaration. But see it as a way to keep the former lady vortigern in Uterpendragon's hostage and they reluctantly don't make a fuss.

Ser Ambrose is still in shock at the new development. Nobody told him about this, not even Merlyn. What are his duties?

In the privacy of his study, Merlyn confront Uther.

"What is the meaning of this?"

"I don't have to run by all my decisions with you, Merlyn."

"Careful with your tongue sire. Nothing about this will end well."

"Why, is Ser Ambrose a threat?"

Merlyn takes a deep breath, trying hard not to reveal how powerful those two could be. "He is a skilled man. Just be careful"

"All the more reason to keep him under my eye." Uther says.

Morgana: You have judged well Ser Ambrose milord. But tell me, what are your reasons?

Uther: Our lives are short, my dear. Take with it whatever pleasures you so desire. Fulfill first your duties to the alliance, bear me a childe or two. Then I grant thee your happiness. In exchange make sure your knight is more loyal to me aand our children. I'd rather have him close by us than away from us. Merlyn tells me he is a man most skilled and most loyal, as you have said, though I do not know in what capacitie. By your word,makehim work for me for I am not a cruel king. I do not wish to be one So I'd want him to use his talents for the kingdom that we will build.

Morgana: (is speechless)

He turned to the legendary queen of Camelot, current team lead of the geophysical analysis team for the University of Bristol. The absurdity of the scene crashed into him like an avalanche. Seeing Arthur again was nothing short of a miracle, but how that his king was back, what was Merlin going to do with him? What was he going to do about the reincarnated souls of the people he’d once loved most in the world? In a world without Camelot, what was the point of the king?"

“Dr. Ambrose? Maybe you should come sit by the fire.” The reincarnated queen said, frowning, “You’ve gone pale.”

It took me a while, but I’m finally here with my celebration for reaching the incredible milestone that is 9k followers, I’m celebrating with a special event: drabble prompts for underrated characters! 🎉✨ 

They are basically drabbles and prompts put together, since they’re formatted like a drabble but requested with a prompt provided, in this case them being tropes we all love. There is an additional twist, it being that this celebration will be focusing on underrated characters, being it a combination of characters that deserve more love as well as some characters that haven’t been requested much and that I’m inspired for.

The List of Merlin/Merthur Fic Prompts and Ideas That I’ll Probably Never Get Around to Writing Myself

This post is an absolute mess, lmao. Some of them are prompts, some of them are summaries, and some of them are just little story notions. If you want to write/draw/edit one of these, then go for it! All I ask is that you tag me or shoot me a quick message if you post it. 

1) Prince!Merlin

In order to stop the feud between their two kingdoms, Prince Arthur of Camelot is betrothed to Prince Merlin of Escetir. When they meet, they are undeniably drawn to each other, but any hopes of affection are crushed when they open their mouths. Prince Merlin and Prince Arthur butt heads even more than King Balinor and King Uther, but the one thing they can agree on is that the feud has gone on for far enough, and if dealing with each other is the price to pay for peace, then so be it.

The biggest strain in their nonexistent relationship comes from magic. Merlin, or Emrys, has always believed in the prophecies, but his marriage to Arthur throws a wrench in things. Either a) Arthur, the biggest prat in all of Albion, is the Once and Future King, or b) Merlin will have to help his true King from the sidelines, possibly breaking the truce in the process, and all the while being trapped in a loveless marriage. Neither are particularly appealing to him.

Of course, Arthur discovers that magic isn’t inherently evil. And of course, Merlin discovers that Arthur is the Once and Future King. And of course, the two fall madly in love.

2) 4x06 Divergence

After he destroys the Fomorrah, Merlin returns to Camelot to find an anxious Gwen, a furious Gwaine, and most concerning of all, an Arthur who is trapped in a pit of despair and refuses to speak to anyone about it, especially Merlin. Now, Merlin has to figure out what the hell happened when he was under the Fomorrah’s control.

Spoiler alert: when Arthur found Merlin in the bog, instead of hugging him, he kissed him. Merlin pushed Arthur away, saying that he doesn’t think of him that way. Of course, this is all happening in front of Gwaine, who’s been dealing with both Merlin and Arthur’s pining, and who finally convinced Arthur to go for it, only for Merlin to shut him down.

3) another Prince/Nobleman!Merlin

Arthur meets Lord/Prince Merlin, and he’s immediately besotted. Merlin plays hard to get and is just in general a sarcastic, sassy prince.

I picture their dynamic in this to be like Hercules and Meg, with Merlin just roasting the shit out of Arthur while Arthur sits there like 😍

Arthur’s constantly like “Isn’t he just amazing?” and Sir Leon the Long Suffering is just sitting there like “...are you fucking kidding me”

4) The Toast

Arthur gets crowned King. At the feast, he gives a toast - to his knights, to Guinevere - but most shockingly, the final toast is to Merlin.

5) Modern!AU

When Merlin Emrys and Arthur Pendragon meet, it’s love at first sight. Unfortunately, neither of them know how to handle their feelings like regular adults, so instead, they resort to witty banter, pigtail pulling, and worst of all, pining.

Featuring a group of friends who just want to be put out of their misery.

6) The Lowkey Magic Reveal

“You have magic,” Arthur stated.

“Yes.”

Arthur paused for a long moment, glancing between Merlin and the armor that was now strewn across the floor.

“...And you use it to do your chores?”

“Occasionally, among other things. Saving your life, for example.”

Arthur’s face was completely blank. The pair stood in silence for what felt like an eternity, and Merlin felt his panic rising, before Arthur finally responded.

“Alright. Well, carry on, then, I suppose.”

He waved his hand and shut the door, and Merlin heard his footsteps walking out of Gaius’ chambers, leaving Merlin alone to wonder what the hell had just happened.

Or: Arthur finds out about Merlin’s magic. It goes better than expected. Too much better than expected, if you ask Merlin.

7) High School Theatre AU

Arthur Pendragon, jock extraordinaire, is cornered by the drama teacher, Mr. Kilgharrah, in the halls and is begged to audition for the school play/musical. He’s always been one to help wherever he could, so even though he’s never acted/sung in his life, he agrees.

Merlin Emrys is seen as the theatre gay boy stereotype - outgoing, bold, and confident. Most of the student body adores him, along with the teachers and generally everyone he meets. He hates Arthur Pendragon on principle, considering that he’s simply waltzing into theatre and getting a lead role his first time simply because he’s a man.

You know the drill. Enemies to lovers, slow burn. Bonus points if the roles that Merlin and Arthur are cast in have gay subtext. Even more bonus points if the roles are openly gay.

8) Immortal!Merlin Accidentally Becomes Famous

In which Merlin gets bored of hating his immortality and decides to express his bottled-up emotions from Camelot and from over the years of waiting through song, but his music blows up, and he becomes a musical sensation. And in which Arthur is tumblr famous for his fan blog of the world-famous music artist Emrys, and keeps wondering why the hell Emrys’ work feels so familiar.

9) Hero!Merlin/Villain!Arthur

Arthur’s working for his father, the CEO of Pendragon Sciences, when day, Uther pulls him into his office and reveals how he’s begun developing biology altering drugs to make superpowers, something to directly counter magic. He uses magical human test subjects and tortures them to the brink of death. Furthermore, he plans to give someone close to him the first test of these drugs and essentially become his personal hitman. Arthur is absolutely horrified, and he realizes that he has to do something about this. He knows just how powerful his father has become - now that he understands the scope of his work, he realizes that no one will be able to stop him. No one... except for maybe, just maybe, someone on the inside of his corporation, and someone who he trusts unconditionally... like Arthur.

So, Arthur convinces Uther to use him as the test subject, and everything goes perfectly. Arthur gains powers, and he plays the part of the perfect, magic-hating villain, all while trying to undermine Uther’s operations. The media gets wind of this new villain, and so naturally, there needs to be a hero to combat it. Enter Merlin Ambrose, AKA Emrys, the most powerful magic user to ever walk the earth.

Merlin has been working with Morgana, Arthur’s magical half-sister who ran away once she discovered her magic combined with all of Uther’s shit, and they suspect that Uther is behind the creation of this villain. Merlin applies for a job at Pendragon Sciences as Arthur Pendragon’s personal assistant. You’ve probably got a pretty good idea of how it goes from there.

WARNING: This will contain a bit of spoiler for the newest chapter of my fan fiction Twisted-Wonderland: Our Precious Treasure

Okay. I'm supposed to publish the chapter yesterday, but two nights ago I didn't sleep. So, yesterday I have to sleep. And by that time, I'm not finished with the chapter, so technically I had a late update for A03. The Wattpad Christmas Filler Arc was posted on time though.

But actually, when I was writing it, at least a few days ago, I realized that I made a mistake in making the episode list. I know that this arc will be crowded with me insisting myself to make it eight-episodes-arc because our lord and savior Haruhi Suzumiya had spoken. So I had to rearrange some episodes, like nearly all.

The first episode was originally supposed to be Jonah's only chapter, but I realized it's a two-day tale with Jonah's return to NRC and the welcoming ceremony/party. Because of this, I had to cut it, which means I had to push back everything. The major result is the final episode of this chapter is supposed to have one solo battle, but I have to combine it with the rescue scene in the supposed previous chapter.

Speaking about this chapter, the early part is kinda a closure for the Christmas Arc.

One thing I'm disappointed about this chapter and the previous arc is, especially since I accidentally make a Reunion Arc, I wish I can develop more about Jonah's relationship with his father and Shooting Star. Because the Reunion Arc, or even the first half of the Christmas Arc, is sudden I don't have much time to prepare myself and once I get to editing I'm too lazy to add more stuff, along with the time constrain of this filler arc taking more than a month which is a big warning for me and I don't want to disappoint the readers.

Another thing I kinda disappoint is Jonah and Vil's relationship because of how half-baked it was. Originally the Christmas Arc, before the sudden Road Trip and Reunion Arc, is about those two finally bonding as Crowley's godsons, which is why their interaction, despite the boy's natural charm is kinda forced.

This includes the usual staredown scene. In the original draft, Jonah isn't supposed to wake up at all during the Scarabia Arc aftermath and Vil supposed to wake him up and then they had the stare down. But because I need the 'Grim eating the black stone' thing, I have to change which lessen Jonah-Vil interactions.

Even though I’m still using anime's proto Royal Sword Academy, I’m still keeping Ambrose as the headmaster just to tie it closer than canon.

Well, since we all guess that Ambrose is based on Merlin (at least until any official announcement), I tried to find the last name that sounded magical. And then I found out Merlin is based on Myrddin Wyllt and Ambrosius Aurelianus. Now, “Ambrosius Aurelianus” anglicized is Ambrose Aurelian, so it’s only fair if I pick something from “Myrddin Wyllt”, and I picked Emrys from “Myrddin Emrys” (also related to ‘ambrosius’)

I just realized that I've never really had a solid worldbuilding rule for ghosts because in the previous chapters I did say that ghosts can eat and canonically it stated that ghosts can have babies. So, I just conclude that ghosts are basically humans but cooler.

The hardest part of this chapter is probably the pacing because, as I said, this arc is going to be crowded. But, I'm kinda happy how Jonah-Riddle conversation ended up because it doesn't feel too awkward and flow quite good in my opinion.

Also bringing up old plot point as Riddle once asked Jonah to dance with him in Halloween Arc and inviting him to Heartslabyul tea party in Octavinelle Arc. We're bringing the conclusion now, boy. Eat you ROnah moments.

Also, remember this with the whole memory problem, because it's kinda important.

I realized, by this chapter, that out of all the boys in the cast, Jonah had never talk to Rook Hunt. Not at Savanaclaw, not at Octavinelle. Making his bond with Rook, Silver, and Sebek probably more flimsy than the rest of the cast.

Also, pay attention to the magical sword-pen it will be important.

He fights for Merlin and the land until the very end. And at the end, the land is there for him.

FIC: Kilgharrah, If You Please for polomonkey (Merlin/Arthur – M – 12.4k) Summary: In which I, Kilgharrah the Great, give a fair account, noble and true, of the events that occurred in the story "Get Sick Soon", recorded by Polomonkey but experienced first-hand by me. Don't let any reports of the unreliability of eyewitness testimony sway you. This is what really happened. I was there. And I never misrepresent anything. Just ask Merlin. He'll back me up on this one. Or I'll scratch up his favourite woodcut. The one with the runes designed to ensure potency in bed.

(I know, I know, Camelot Remix is supposed to be an anonymous fest. But unless I claim my work, how will you all know that the narrator of this tale can be trusted? You have to understand that I was actually there. Surely the rules don't apply to someone as esteemed as I?)

So I'm pretty silly and just yesterday while playing Fgo realized that Salter mentions vortigerm in her noble phantasm... Can you tell me who exactly is him? What is going to be his role in Rota?

Ooh YAY I LOVE talking Arthuriana! There is nothing silly about it, since, weirdly, most stories don’t actually bring him up, despite 90% of Arthur’s problems being his fault.

So, Vortigern is actually a pretty important figure. In the original stories, he kills Uther and his brother Ambrose’s father, who was king, setting himself up as king and throwing Albion wide open to the Saxons, hoping to make them his allies since the lords who were there were...less than impressed with him. 

The Saxons, despite being promised only a small section of land, started conquering and expanding (they had their own issues). 

This culminated in what was called the Betrayal of Long Knives, where the heads of the major families and the Saxon heads were SUPPOSED to eat together and talk things out. This ended up being a Saxon trap (with Vortigern’s help) and left most of the lords, and their heirs, dead and throwing the country into total chaos. At the same time, the younger sons who hadn’t been expected to be heir were still active (and angry) and Uther and Ambrose managed to return from their exile on the more Roman mainland, and was doing a GREAT job uniting Albion against him. Even the Saxons weren’t keen on helping him. They apparently were willing to use his betrayal but found his willingness to betray his countrymen disgusting. 

Vortigern fled, reaching Dinas Emrys, and planning to build a fort there, but every single night, whatever foundation he laid was destroyed, getting more and more desperate as his enemies were getting closer, he consulted his mages, who claimed the blood of a ‘child with no human father’ would calm whatever was doing this. Vortigern went looking, and managed, in a nearby town to find a young Merlin, roughly seven, being taunted by the other children for having no human father. Vortigern planned to kill the child, but after taking Merlin to the foundation and planning to cut Merlin’s throat, Merlin asked if the mages had even TOLD him what was actually IN the mountain. Naturally they hadn’t. Long story short, Merlin told him that under the cave were two dragons, a red and white one, who fought every night, and the battle was destroying things (this is a reference to another, older story). Vortigern listened to Merlin and released the two.  The Red dragon killed the white, and ended up flying off. Merlin predicted that this represented the conflict between Albion (the red dragon) and the Saxons (the white one). Vortegern then killed the other mages and instated Merlin (who was seven remember) as his head mage. 

He fled Dinas Emrys after that but was eventually killed by Ambrose andUther. At the same time, Merlin was now on the public sphere, and seemed to have been taken in by Uther (Ambrose died very suddenly after that), and the Saxons were now a problem.

In Fate, the timeline is messed up, with Vortigern apparently turning into the White Dragon of the Saxons and being a ‘demon’ that Artoria had to defeat using the Lance, but it seems like things were much the same action wise. Regardless, Vortigern’s actions are what caused the conflict between Arthur and the Saxons as well as bringing Merlin into the mix.

What other fandoms are you familiar enough with to use as an AU prompt? Pokemon Trainer AU? Homestuck AU (they'd still probably die but at least there are lots of ways to come back to life)?

I’m not that familiar with Homestuck, definitely not enough to do an AU.  I read the novelizations of the Pokemon show as a kid but never saw the show or played any of the video games.  I did play the super-obscure Pokemon board game, but most of my trading cards were printed in Japanese (I had a strange childhood), so my experience there is, uh, probably not quite overlapping with everyone else’s.

Disclaimer 1: Like a lot of people who went to high school in the American South, my education in literature is pretty shamefully lacking in a lot of areas.  (As in, during our African American History unit in ninth grade we read To Kill a Mockingbird, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn… and that was it.  As in, our twelfth-grade US History class, I shit you not, covered Gone With the Wind.)  There were a lot of good teachers in with the *ahem* Less Woke ones (how I read Their Eyes Were Watching God and The Bluest Eye) and college definitely set me on the path to trying to find books written/published outside the WASP-ier parts of the U.S., but the overall list is still embarrassingly hegemonic.

Disclaimer 2: There are a crapton of errors — typos, misspelled names, misattributions, questionable genre classifications, etc. — in here.  If you genuinely have no idea what a title is supposed to be, ask me.  Otherwise, please don’t bother letting me know about my mistakes.

Disclaimer 3: I am not looking for recommendations.  My Goodreads “To Read” list is already a good 700 items long, and people telling me “if you like X, then you’ll love Y!” genuinely stresses me the fuck out.

Disclaimer 4: There are no unproblematic faves on this list.  I love Supernatural, and I know that Supernatural is hella misogynistic.  On the flip side: I don’t love The Lord of the Rings at all, partially because LOTR is hella misogynistic, but I also don’t think that should stop anyone else from loving LOTR if they’re willing to love it and also acknowledge its flaws.

-Balinor grew up in the Dragonlords' Keep, a compound just west of Caerleon where all the dragonlord families live. There are four families, there used to be seven but as the years have passed, the gift died out and left only four. Each family serves a different part of Albion and as a member of the Ambrose family, Balinor has Nemeth and Camelot. Technically also the perilous lands but there's nobody there anymore so it's not really a problem. Other dragonlords have other assigned territories and between them, they cover all the kingdoms for any dragon-related issues and regularly visit the courts of their kingdoms. His dragonlord friends regularly take the piss because they know the kind of shit he'll have to deal with in Camelot

Thomas: heard about that dance battle that ended with fifty people dead. wanna guess where?

Iefan: yeah, have fun dealing with that. somebody got the short straw there.

Balinor: you have Mercia and they're in a civil war! you got stabbed last time you were there!

Iefan: i would still take that over Camelot

-His parents were called Rowan and Sylvia and he used to accompany them on court visits as a child. it's how he made most of his friends, including his best friend, Sir Lionel, who lives in Camelot. They met when they were ten and Lionel found Balinor hiding from a council meeting and went man this dude gets it and joined him in the cupboard he was hiding in. They've been friends ever since and Balinor stays with him when he visits Camelot.

-His father dies when he's twenty and he inherits his dragonlord powers and with them, apparently, decades of beef with a dragon named Kilgharrah. He's met Kilgharrah before a couple of times as a child and thought he was a bit annoying but manageable. He's now discovering that he's a more than a bit annoying and his favourite hobby is causing problems. Balinor ends up spending quite a lot of time in Camelot because Kilgharrah is determined to kill a woman who lives there named Vivienne. Kilgharrah insists it's a blood rivalry but it seems to be pretty one-sided

Kilgharrah: she's my nemesis! it is my destiny to kill her!

Balinor: ok but could you not

Kilgharrah: we are enemies! fire and ice, night and day!

Vivienne: i am literally just trying to eat my lunch

-Balinor is ok with being in Camelot but doesn't like Uther very much. The two of them eventually bond over bullying Agravaine

Gaius: My lord, Agravaine is suffering from a terrible disease

Gorlois: do you have any idea what it might be?

Balinor, from the back of the hall: charisma deficiency

Uther: who said that. would you like a knighthood

-His next visit to Camelot is a couple of days after Lionel's son is born. He made a little wooden dragon, like the one he gave Merlin, to give to the baby, who immediately tries to eat it. Lionel makes him the baby's godfather, which Balinor takes to mean it's his responsibility to corrupt this child. He visits every month and brings Lionel's son a new toy he's made and when he's a bit older, other stuff too

Lionel: Balinor

Balinor: yes

Lionel: why did you bring my two year old son beer

Balinor: i dont know what kids like. i just want him to think im cool

Balinor gives him a small wooden sword with a dragon carved into the hilt and this kid is over the moon. He loves to play with it and says he's going to be a knight just like his dad. Leon still has that sword. It sits next to his bed with a letter from his uncle Balinor. Leon remembers his face and how he used to take him into the woods and introduce him to the baby dragons but he also knows he's not allowed to talk about him, ever.

-Balinor and Gaius are also friends, not that Gaius would ever admit it. It wasn't that he didn't like Balinor, but the man was very clumsy and had a tendency to knock over Gaius' potions. He had an interest in medicine so used to hang around in Gaius' chambers and help out but he always seemed to break something. When Merlin arrived in Camelot and tripped over his foot on the way in, Gaius thought about flinging himself into the sea, he could not deal with another Balinor.

-He visits Nemeth occasionally but a lot less than Camelot because Nemeth, much like everywhere other than Camelot, is pretty chill

King Rodor: Lord Balinor! it's good to see you, i was hoping you could help with a dragon-related problem we've been having

Balinor, who's just got back from Camelot: is it a Jason situation? has one of the dragons gone rogue and kidnapped somebody? are people trying to keep wyverns as pets? did someone try to eat a dragon? did a knight argue with an extremely petty dragon about the correct pronunciation of 'encyclopaedia', resulting in half the city being burned down again?

Rodor: ...no. again? no, no. jason situation? what? jason? i was just going to ask if you know how to help the baby dragons that are learning to fly, what the fuck? who hurt you?

Balinor: i was in Camelot

Rodor: Ah

-Balinor returned home to the dragonlords' keep a week before Ygraine died and found it empty. He didn't know what had happened and the only person around was a Bendrui woman named Helen. She tells him that something bad is coming and that he needs to run, find somewhere safe. Unfortunately, his go-to safe place is Lionel's home. In Camelot.

-Two weeks after Ygraine's death, Uther summons Balinor to the court and asks him to call Kilgharrah, claiming he wants peace. He says that his fight is with sorcerers, not all creatures of magic and that he wants to make sure the Great Dragon knows he has no problem with the dragons. Of course, he's lying. The minute Balinor is done summoning Kilgharrah, Uther has him arrested and taken to the dungeons. As he's dragged out of the room, Balinor hears Uther give the order to hunt down the dragonlords. On his way to the dungeons, Balinor and the guards are intercepted by Sir Lionel. His face gives away nothing as he tells the guards he'll handle it from here. He drags Balinor towards the dungeons in silence before shoving him through the secret passage in the wall. They walk down the passage to the caves below the castle, where Gaius and two more knights are waiting for them. They give Balinor a bag and directions and tell him to run as fast as he can.

-A few weeks later, he stumbles through the woods, dizzy and tired and accidentally knocks somebody over. He apologises profusely but she tells him not to worry and helps him up. She notices how exhausted he looks and brings him home to give him some water. He thanks her and apologises again for not asking her name. She smiles and introduces herself as Hunith.
