wada sez: Richard Smith had contributed to Mosaic several times, and had a couple of strips to submit to Multiverse after Mosaic shuttered—but apparently they just ghosted him? So I’ve decided to finally set things right, and am serialising these two strips as part of the Multiverse archive. You’re welcome. This first one obsessively references basically every single human character from the Sunbow cartoon; I’ve tagged them all below.

The School Duel

So today the rewatch hit the school duel, which for me and for my fellow Chazz stans is a very loaded 2 parter. There's so much I have to say about these episodes not even really so much because of the Duel itself because as we all know, despite years and years of watching ygo religiously, I still don't understand fucking anything about this game somehow. But it's the character stuff surrounding and interwoven into it.

I'll try to keep it brief because I've talked extensively about this several times on this blog over the years. But anyways, the important part is that the School Duel is a pivotal moment and a turning point for his character in many ways. The effects of this run through episode 35 as well but we'll get into that when the time comes.

The School Duel is where the other characters are confronted by the fact that the Chazz they knew, wasn't the real one. It's the facade his had to put up in order to satisfy the insane requirements his brothers are pressuring him to fulfill. He doesn't get a say in what he does up until this point, it's already decided. He's going to win this duel and work even harder to prove himself to them and become the head of the dueling world.

He has to.

They've already decided this for him, which is why they literally televise the event. Because they've already decided that he's going to win and since they've decided that, there's no way it won't happen. So why not? Show the world that the Princeton's are the best at everything in every way. And the pressure of all of this is too much for him, because let's not forget that they are grown ass adults doing what they do and they're forcing all of this insane pressure and expectation on a child. And before the duel Jaden catches him having a breakdown and crying in the bathroom. Then he goes and tells Syrus and Chumley before the duel that he's starting to understand Chazz and why he is the way that he is, because Jaden now understands that Chazz isn't coming from "an easy place". Which no, he truly isn't. And up until this point the only ones who knew that, were the Princeton brothers, and the audience.

But now Jaden knows it too. At least to a certain extent based on what he overheard.

But this opens a door because Jaden throughout the duel is trying to coax the real Chazz out, he's trying to get him to forget about his brothers for a second and just enjoy the duel. But he can't. Throughout the duel Chazz keeps looking to them, and getting angry like they're literally breathing down his neck all the way from the stands.

Jaden reads him like a book, he calls him out for dueling for his brothers. Because he largely still is, but at the same time, he's already made the decision to take back his autonomy from them by choosing not to use the cards they gave him, and therefore, whether he knows it or not he is also dueling for himself. It's episode 35 where we see that little act of rebellion allow him to truly duel for himself again. That's a discussion for another time, but that's the thing about the school duel that gets me, it's seeing Chazz for kinda the first time be able to, in the face of his brothers, do something for himself. To make his own choice and stand up to them even by just not using the cards they gave him. Because for once he wasn't playing on their terms.

But the thing is that up until now, Chazz's entire demeanor has changed around them. He closes off, he shrinks down, he shuts up. He sits there and quietly listens and does what he's told and that's not the real Chazz, we all know that. But Chazz doesn't even know the real Chazz anymore at this point, but his little romp and North Academy showed him a glimpse of himself, his true authentic self. And that gives him that little push to find the strength he needs to defy his brothers and not use all the rare cards they tried to give him and stuck with his own cards and North Academy's cards that he was given to represent the school. That is a major step and it's his first step in breaking free and finding his true self again.

And I wanna bring in the idea of Chazz up until now having his choices dictated by others, specifically his brothers. Because this is where that begins to change. Chazz does still want to and plans on winning this duel (which sadly he doesn't) but the thing is, while he is still trying to please them, he's not doing it for his brothers completely anymore. He's not even doing it for North Academy, he's doing it for himself even though he doesn't recognize that yet because he can't yet.

And when he does lose the duel, I just wanna say it sucks that he lost for one, because it's so monumental of an occasion for him. It's everything. But it also gives us honestly another formative experience for Chazz due to that loss, because we see Jaden and the others actually stand up for him. He's never had that before in his life, I guarantee it. And certainly not because anybody actually cared enough about him and valued him enough as a person to do so out of any genuine concern and care for him. He's only ever had people hanging around him to be a status symbol, because of his wealth and high social status. The moment he loses any of it everyone turns on him. When Jagger grabs him practically by the neck and while his brothers are abusing him in front of TWO entire schools it worries me to think what goes on behind closed doors when we see what they'll do in front of that many people without giving a shit, Chazz is genuinely shocked to see Jaden defending him, much less the others backing him up. And that hurts my heart a lot, it kills me even.

This is where another shift in Chazz happens and the door is opened for him to actually become their friend. Because they are opening the door first, they are showing him that they care and again I say, that's something he's never had before. It's a beautiful moment in the midst of what for Chazz honestly must feel like is the world caving in on him. Yet another thing and another victory that he's been denied, another humiliation, another reason for his brothers to hate him and to treat him even worse and make his entire situation that much more unbearable. And yet, in the midst of it all, there it is.

Because at the end of this duel, there's that light, that silver lining, another defining shift in Chazz's character and no doubt a core memory in his life and all it took was Jaden telling Jagger to let him go.

The School Duel is everything to me.

Anyway that's why Chazz should've won the School Duel, thank you, goodnight.

Jaden’s first day at duel academy is awful for Seto Kaiba

Jaden has been sending them pictures all day.

At first everything seems normal. Red uniform. Okay Slifer red is the 1st year dorm so that makes sense.

Except then Jaden sends them a picture of the dorms, which is a run down little shack. And he’s all excited “it’s a long walk but the view is gorgeous!” He sends with a picture of the outside of the dorms. Which has Seto wondering if the boy is messing with them.

Then Jaden send the picture of his room. “It’s a great pad for my first year! I’m so excited!” Seto take one look at the run down room and is ready to fly to the academy because he KNOWS has gave them more than enough money to make three premier dorms that the fanciest resorts in the world couldn’t match. So why what the 1st year dorm so run down and cramped?

New text from Jaden “I met both of my roommates! They are awesome!” Yugi (who bless him is asking Jaden questions and responding with enthusiasm because lord knows Seto has not replied to anything yet because of the mental gymnastics he’s doing trying to figure out what is happening at his school!) “that’s great! Tell us about them!” Jaden: “Syrus is a 1st year like me and Chunley is a 3rd year.”

Seto ‘I beg you the biggest pardon’ Kaiba is finally in this conversation: “you’re rooming with a 3rd year?” Something is not right here! He already knew that but obelisk is the 3rd year dorm so why is there a 3rd year in the slicer dorm. “Why isn’t he in the obelisk dorm with the other 3rd years?” Kaiba is staying as calm as possible but the man is close to blowing a gasket.

“3rd year dorms? Obelisk? That’s not what Chumley said.” And then Jaden, bless his airhead heart, makes the truly terrible decision to tell his Oto-san verbatim what Chumley told him about the rank system.

The blues are the top of the school some are there because of their grades others because of connections.

The yellows are mostly younger students with lots of potential

And there are the red wonders, as in I wonder how they ever got here.

And Jaden is laughing and talking about how he’s sure to be an obelisk in no time. But Seto is fuming. His son! Talentless? Um did they not see his entrance exam where he defeated one of the head professors when they were using their PERSONAL deck. This is unacceptable! Screw no one knowing Jaden’s identity, he can come up with some lie. Some connection between them to move Jaden up. But also what the heck are the people running his school doing? Making a rank system like this. Yes it was his idea to rank the students a reward them, but he didn’t mean with livable conditions! Also how was Jaden not an Obelisk already? Or at least Ra if his test score was to low. Kaiba’s blaming Crowler (he’s right)

The only thing that stops Seto from getting in the jet and flying to the school is a phone call from Yugi. Who is also upset but knows how important it is to Jaden that no one at that school knows about their connection to him, and how genuinely excited Jaden is about all of this. “We wait it out Seto. We can’t go now. But a surprise inspection in a few weeks might not hurt.” And truly Yugi is the best Husband Seto could have. He’s calm, thinks things through, is rational while also plotting seven moves ahead. Seto would propose again if he could.

Then Jadne sends them a picture of the dueling arena “look how cool! You really out did yourself with this one Oto-san! But apparently it’s only for the Obelisk kids to use.” Seto’s ready to storm the school again. Yugi (who has made his way to the office and is sitting next to Seto at this point to try and curb his husband’s rage while also minding his own anxiety and nerves over Jaden being away. “Is there a Slifer only dueling arena?” There had to be. If there wasn’t Seto would have one built and Yugi wouldn’t stop him. If the school was actively with holding facilities from certain student then they would have to step in. “Great idea Dad I’ll go look after dinner!”

Dinner is its own affair. Jaden snaps them a picture is his welcome meal: rice and sardines. And I can’t stress enough how excited this kid is. “Diner was delicious. Professor Banner is a great cook! And he’s super nice!” Seto’s head is in his hands at this point. He loves his son’s endless optimism but please Jaden be upset about something! Yugi just responds with “I’m glad you like your professor!” He’s so stressed out. He’s trying to stay positive with Jaden but he can see his husband’s fury and he’s mad too. But he’s not going to ruin Jaden’s day with his own feelings.

The phone goes quiet for a while. They think Jaden’s gone to sleep and they head home. They are discussing everything with Mokuba and Atem at the manor. (Maybe Joey video calls in to check on how his littlest buddies first day was. Jaden was probably texting him all day to. So he already know Seto head is ready to spin 360 degrees and chase his staff around with his Blue Eyes. He’s on video call for the drama!)

Until Jaden calls Yugi. “I just had my first duel!” And Jaden tells them all about his duel with Chazz. How he stole Jaden’s Flame Wingedman and used it against him. How Jaden took Wingman back. How he had just drawn monster reborn and was going to win when campus security arrived and they had to run. Apparently his opponent hadn’t told Jaden about the no after hours dueling rule when he challenged him.

They are all proud of how Jaden handled himself. Though Atem isn’t happy there was an ante on the duel (he hates betting his cards on the outcome) and Seto is still mad about… everything. Jadne ends the call with “today was a really great day! I’m so glad I get to go here! Thanks for trusting me with this. Love you!” And now how can Seto take any action against the school when Jaden is happy? Oh he has so many plans, Mokuba is scheming with him. But not yet. Not while Jaden’s happy.

But the moment Jaden’s not happy Seto’s firing half the staff.

Any way my Yugi raise Jaden Au ahas made rewatching Gx hilarious for me. Cause I’m just picturing Seto being enraged with every update Jaden sends and it’s making me cackle.

The Scorpion-Bot from Void Rivals #03 reminds me of the episode Prime Target in which Lord Chumley used one to attack Prime.

A couple HCs for all three ideas, Psychonauts/Transformers, One Piece/Godzilla and lastly Whitebeard Prime

Psychonauts and Transformers crossover

Bombshell is an especially huge threat to the Psychonauts as his ability to mind control anyone from any distance is terrifying, and the Psychonauts can track him like usual.

Raz Dogen and Lili end up in the Shadow Zone, but instead of facing off against a terrorcon they face off of against the original prisoners of the Shadow Zone the Quintessons.

Some of the human villains of the Autobots show up, such as Lord Chumley who used to hunt psychic animals and Dr.Arkeville who used to create pseudo-psychic abilities.

Jetfire is still found in the Arctic, but unfortunately he's found by Gristol who manages to convince the Lost cybertronian that his people plan to conquer earth

Godzilla and One Piece crossover

At first the Straw Hat crew didn't really believe that Kaiju Humans actually exist, they think that YC is just a weird animal that ate a weirder devil fruit. They were shocked to learn about the events of the Marineford war.

Imu and the Elder Stars have studied multiple ways to try and kill the kaiju humans but they have always been deemed a mistake, so they secretly support the mechs that Germa 66 is making since Dr.Vegapunk wouldn't do it.

Instead of 12 Supernovas there are now 16 supernovae, with the young Kaiju Humans having absolutely massive bounties while one is a strange lone pirate who simply goes by X.

Whitebeard Prime

The Whitebeard pirates after hearing about some of their pops 'stories' add some new nicknames to various crew members, with Ace being called Bumblebee

Whitebeard calls various Marines different types of Decepticon names, with Akainu being called Onslaught, Garp being called Thundercracker.

Some of Optimus fighting moves made into Whitebeard's moves, which causes mass confusion because Whitebeard loves to piledrive people into the dirt

I totally see all these. Skyfire is about to leave real quickly as Gristol's bad behavior wouldn't want him to stay for long. Also Whitebeard deserves to pile drive people. Lol

Something There Vignette #2 - The Carriage

A/N: Welcome back to all who have been following this story aka my besties who have been either helping me beta reading and editing this with me or those just along for the ride reading snippets and listening to me ramble - here’s a second part of Chapter 1! [Taglist in the notes!]

Those who are new: Hello there! This is a fanfic for Lord Cassidy from Mr. Malcolm’s List and since he didn’t get a love interest in the film and is PRIME HR hero material, I gave him one! Her name is Lady Persephone Parker-Greens and you can read all about her in the links below. This is a childhood best friends to lovers story with marriage of convenience and a touch of forbidden romance.

Yall read The Waltz and came back? Okay so some context, after the waltz they are both ambushed by other suitors and debs respectively and it’s just a filler scene that was too boring to post but probably will sharpen it up by the time I post the fic. The following vignette takes place after their separation at the Ball and they are on their way home together since they’re neighbours. Happy Reading yall!! [Added a watermark to my edit this time! As they left Amberton Manor, Sephy started to spring back to life. She could be the life of the party if she pleased and the occasion called for it. However, there was a guarded wall up with her performances in the Ton. If one knew where to look. Cassie knew. Now, as she pulled herself to his side, she allowed herself to relax in his presence. This is when the real fun began. 

"There she is." He chuckled, his arm around her waist squeezing her playfully closer to him. They were so close she could feel the vibrations of his laugh against her own body. "I could have sworn you were about to put yourself to bed in the middle of the ballroom floor after Dick Chumley tried to engage you a second time." 

Finally feeling free from prying eyes, she produced her fan hanging from her wrist and delivered a quick swat against his chest. "I would never. I will have you know, I am the perfect debutante" She gasped dramatically before hitting him again, lightly this time. "And that was for ignoring me while talking to Lady Feather."

"Lady Feather? You're slipping tonight, my dear Sephy." He teased and she couldn't help but smile at the endearment. It was just like any other night of theirs so why did it feel different? She shook her head to settle herself as they reached her carriage. 

"Oh, I know exactly what her name was. It was Lady Gwyneth. She had far too many feathers, I'm surprised your nose was not aggravated." They left the conversation there as Cassie excused himself for a moment, running over to his valet and carriage. Most likely to brief that he'll be travelling with her tonight and to follow them. 

She was opening the door to let herself in when he jogged back and swatted her hand away. Holding out his hand to guide her in, he opened the door for her. Sephy clasped his hand grateful and climbed in. Once she situated herself comfortably, she tugged him in. They both underestimated her strength of her pull as he tumbled inside and landed squarely on top of her. 

She fell back onto the seat and their bodies pressed against each other under his weight. This time it did not feel as alarming as it did in the ballroom. Sephy was starting to enjoy being pressed up against Cassie. Before he could put out his arms to stop himself from crushing her, their faces came close together and their lips crashed into each other. Fire was the only thought that ran through her mind. It was the only way to describe how she felt having his lips on hers. Every part of her was set aflame. 

The initial shock wore off a moment later and Cassie pulled back. He stared earnestly into her eyes, silently asking Sephy for permission to continue. They both knew their whole night had been building up to this. The waltz had been the turning point for them both, most of all for Sephy who was seeing Cassie in a new light. Oh, it was maddening how desperately she wanted to have him kiss her again. 

Persephone didn’t need a moment to think before nodding enthusiastically. Tilting her head up, she pressed her lips against his. She let herself melt into the kiss. Her hands instinctively found his hair, her fingers tangling themselves through his thick locks while Cassie’s own hands came to cradle her head gently. Her fingers trailed down to stroke the nape of his neck, earning her a moan from him. She smiled satisfied against his lips as she brought her hands down to his lapels to tug him closer to her. They shifted their position so their legs could slot perfectly together. With one hand running through her hair, Cassie slid the other down the curve of her neck - letting her shiver in the wake of his touch before cupping her breast through her dress. His thumb rubbing against the hard pebble of her nipple, causing her to whimper into his mouth. 

For those few minutes, they forgot themselves. They were completely wrapped up in each other, oblivious to the world outside. Then the door closed behind them, the noise startled the two. Persephone swore she jumped out of her skin while Cassie jumped away from her, landing on the seat across from her. 

She used to always adore how well she could read him and how expressive he could be. Tonight, it felt like a curse. It was crystal clear how he felt about the kiss. Watching him carefully, she could pick out his furrowed eyebrows, eyes trained to the ground - he wouldn’t even look at her - and it had brought out his worst habit: chewing his lip to the point of drawing blood. She did take pride in how flushed he was from the kiss with his once perfectly styled hair all mussed up and swollen lips she was sure she could spend a lifetime kissing. Before she could part her lips to speak, he spoke first. He was stammering and fidgeting with nerves. Whatever was he nervous about? 

“Sephy - Persephone, I apologise. That was highly inappropriate and… I shouldn’t have done that. It-it shouldn’t have gone that far. Good God, I compromised you.” He covered his hands over his mouth. She knew he was one for theatrics but this was too dramatic, even for her taste. 

“Thank you for the delightfully astute observation, Caswell.” She said dryly, rolling her eyes at him. She was upset that ‘compromising her’ seemed to be his main priority. She hated that he seemed to regret what just happened and so she deflected. If he hated it, then she was going to pretend she didn’t care for it. “It was just a kiss, you do not have to get your breeches in a twist.”

“How are you so cavalier about this? I stole your virtue!” He dropped his head into his hands and let out a long groan. She could only glare at him with mild annoyance. With his dramatics, she couldn’t even enjoy how much she liked being ‘compromised’ in his words.  “You didn’t steal anything, for Christ’s sake!” She leaned over to take his hands in hers. He slowly lifted his head up and finally looked her in the eye. She rubbed soothing circles on his hand while she reached out to caress his face and ran her fingers through his hair gently. He slowly started to calm down.  “And I’m cavalier about this because it’s within our discretion, Cassie. It never happened if we don’t say anything.” She assured him. It hurt her to say it, but it was true. She loved him too much as a best friend to trap him into a marriage over a silly kiss that he certainly seemed to have hated. 

“I am not going to lie to your parents, Persephone.” She did not care for the way he hissed her name and dropped her hands from his. “I did compromise you and I will be asking your parents’ permission for your hand in marriage the moment we get off this carriage.” He insisted honourably. He was so earnest about it all, she couldn’t hate him for it. What she did hate however was the finality in which he said it. She narrowed her eyes at him, staring him down with a glare usually directed at others for misstepping but he knew it all too well. 

“Marriage?! Please tell me this is one of your jokes, Cassie. I assure you it is absolutely not funny.” Her tone was incredibly flat. The seriousness in his eyes told her exactly what she needed to know. She crossed her arms and stared hard at him.  “Does your future bride get any say in the matter?” Her sharp and sarcastic tone was giving him whiplash. His eyes flashed and she could tell he was wounded. She had pushed her tone a little too far - making a mockery of his proposition by calling herself his bride. Nevertheless, she steeled herself and kept staring until he answered her. 

“It’s the honourable thing to do, dearest and were you not just complaining days ago that you were already tired of the season and wanted a husband to fall into your lap? Well, here I am.” He grinned up at her. Now it was his turn to reach out and laced her fingers in his. 

Shaking her head, she started to re-evaluate how her life had come to this. She had said that. Irony truly was a cruel mistress. Her thumb dragged across his as she gazed down contemplating at the sight. Who wouldn’t want to be married to their best friend? It was not as if she had never considered the thought of marrying him before. She was not one to be fussy about her marriage built on love. She knew exactly the kind of world she was born into. Marriage was a transaction and the safety net of the next chapter in a woman’s life. If one were to be rather pessimistic, it has been said that marriage was a woman’s legal death. She knew it would not be that awful with Cassie. Yet she knew if she allowed this, she would be robbing him of actual love. She knew he wanted a love match. He always has, ever since they were children. He was the dreamer and she was the practical one. 

“No, Cassie, I will not be robbing you of your independence. And aren't you supposed to be upset that you've been ensnared by the claws of matrimony?”  “Must you always forget, Sephy? I’m not like them - you know me better than that.” “Why are you so eager? We’re not in love.” She shot back.

Before he could answer, the carriage came to a stop. He huffed, "All this bickering when I could have been getting better acquainted with my bride." His eyes twinkled at the comment as he leaned in close to her. His eyes dropped to her lips for the briefest of moments. She glared at him when she realised he was teasing her. He never knew how to be serious, could he? 

His wit was one of the things she enjoyed most about him. Tonight, it made her want to strangle him. Just as she was about to protest, the carriage door opened and her mask came on. She looked to him with pure adoration and was all smiles as Footman Jack helped her from the carriage. Forging forward first, a good distance was kept between them that no one but Cassie would be none the wiser to. Once they reached her front door, she spun on her heel to face him. 

"I trust you'll keep our discretion tonight to yourself. Good night, Lord Cassidy." She gave him a cold curtsey and left him wondering where it all went wrong.  "May I at least walk you to your room?" He hurried to catch up with her and gave her a pleading look. She never could say no to him. She nodded slowly, not trusting herself to say anything else. 

The exhaustion of the day was weighing on her. Sensing this, he shuffled closer to offer up his shoulder to lean on. Old habits die hard and Persephone laid her head against his shoulder as he guided their way to her room. Breathing came easier when her parents were nowhere to be seen lounging in the drawing room. She knew Cassie well enough to know that he would have somehow let it slip to her parents about their indiscretion. It was an uncomfortable silence on the walk to her room. She absolutely despised it. This is exactly why she never let the thought of marrying Cassie go beyond considerations. All superficial attractions did was ruin friendships. Theirs had long transcended a friendship, they had a deep lifelong bond that couldn’t be compared to anything else. She wouldn’t trade it for anything else, not even a marriage based on lust with him. It was simply not worth it. 

When they finally reached the threshold of her room, Cassie was the first one to  break the silence. “I truly am sorry for tonight, Sephy.”

She couldn’t fathom what was so horrible and regretful about the kiss that he had to be sorry. She may not want to marry him because he felt pressured to do so but she did not regret that kiss. Not even a little bit, not even at all. It made her want to scream desperately, “I’m not!” at him but she was far too tired to muster the energy. All she could do was nod mutely. 

“Promise me you will not tell my parents about tonight?” She pleaded softly - they would without a doubt have the two of them be married before the month’s end. The idea of Cassie resenting her later in their lives for trapping him in a loveless marriage broke her heart. There could be love in their marriage, just not the one he wanted. 

He dipped his head in affirmation, silent and deep in his thoughts. She wished he would tell her exactly what was wrong. While they prided themselves on knowing what was wrong with the other most days, they could not read each other’s mind. This certainly was uncharted territory for the both of them. Sephy was so sure he was going to turn and walk away without a friendly goodbye when he took a breath. She watched him intently, unsure of his next course of action.

“Sephy…” He started to fidget with his hands as he always does when he was nervous, which was most of the time. She took a step closer to him and clasped his hands in hers.  “Yes?” Looking up at him, her eyes were gentle and encouraging. You can tell me anything, was the unspoken reminder. He managed a small smile.  “Would you consider being courted by me? We would not have to marry, however it would give us a chance to explore a romantic attachment.”

Fairmaestro feels like someone who would’ve been designed for Animated, and likely would’ve had the same voice actor, and been more of a stage magician Sari and the Autobots went to go see, but Fairmaestro got irritated at Ratchet for seeing through all the tricks and plotted revenge. I don’t remember if escape rooms were a thing when Animated was new, but I feel like he’d try that, only for Bulkhead to just walk through the carefully crafted dungeon walls like a wrecking ball looking for Sari.

He also feels like a one off character G1 would’ve used, akin to the cartoon’s Lord Chumley or Marvel G1’s The Mechanic or Robot Master. He screams off beat Bob Budiansky villain that Goldbug, Blaster and Jessie would’ve put up with for an issue whose show was ruined by a Decepticon attack by RatBat’s forces scrounging for energy, so he takes out his frustrations on the Autobots.

I'd take any of the Rescue Bots human villains over Fairmaestro any day. All of them were much more memorable.

from Rescue Bots, Lord “Thurston Chumley” and he is still hunting and freezing rare animals? There are no robots in there, a good change of hunting choice considering what happened last time he tried to catch a robot (long story short Optimus Prime kicked his ass) but like, its crazy to think that this minor villain from G1 got another appearance in Rescue Bots, and seriously all these little connections from a bunch of past transformers cartoons in this show that is not even about Autobots vs Decepticons but little reminders that the war is really happening and they are living in the same universe as Optimus Prime and Megatron and G1 characters is just freaking great

Alright, time for the results. Here are all the true moments (purposefully presented out of order):

In "Micro-Bots" Megatron obtains a powerful artifact that allows him to shoot lightning from his fingertips like Emperor Palpatine (yes, really). He plans to attack the Autobots with this newfound power.

To celebrate, he and the other Decepticons sit around and drink from energon cubes and become "over energized" — that is, visibly drunk. Rumble gets hiccups, Megatron slurs his words before (briefly) passing out, and Thundercracker falls over.

In "The Rebirth, Part 1", Kup, Hardhead, and Blurr are in a spaceship about to crash. Blurr starts saying "we're gonna crash, we're all going to die, I know, I know it!". Hardhead grabs Blurr's face and turns away from the camera as Blurr's voice gets muffled. I'm fairly certain he's supposed to be putting his hands over Blurr's mouth, but...

In "Prime Target", a British big game hunter named Lord Chumley wants to catch Optimus Prime and mount his head on his trophy wall (yes, really!). He sets up a booby trap for him, but Optimus is too smart and walks right by.

Blitzwing and Astrotrain, who have been tailing Optimus, come across the booby trap, which Blitzwing activates. Optimus then turns back and delivers an absolute banger of a line: "amazing — a booby trap that actually catches boobies!"

In "Child's Play", several Decepticons and Autobots get transported to a planet where the native people are green aliens so huge the transformers are the size of toys to them. When Starscream and Thrust finally get back to Earth, they end up in a lake. Thrust remarks that "this isn't the welcome I had in mind", to which Starscream replies "who cares? At least there aren't any green monsters around!"

He is then attacked by crocodiles about as big as he is.

In "Sea Change", Perceptor, Cosmos, Seaspray, and Bumblebee go to an Atlantis-like planet. The native people are humanoids that use a mystical well of transformation to turn into mermaids.

Seaspray falls in love with one of them, a girl named Alana. He uses the well of transformation to turn into a member of her species. However, he still has robot feet.

In the same episode, Rumble is pursuing Alana and Seapray as they flee towards the well of transformation, when he is enveloped in light and starts to change shape. Alana says "you must think of a tree... else you'll never escape total oblivion".

Rumble obeys and subsequently becomes this:

In "Hoist Goes Hollywood", Megatron states he's tired of Starscream's plans, lifts him over his head, and throws him on the ground. He then tears what looks to be magnetic tape from Starscream's chest, as his voice distorts and cuts out.

Based on both notes and votes, this one is the most unbelievable, surprisingly.

And that means... option 4, Astrotrain falls in love with a normal locomotive engine, is the lie. Thanks for playing "seven truths and a lie" with me. I'm here all night.

Episode 34

Jaden is already having nightmares about losing duel and dooming his friends to the shadow realm. Get this boy some therapy now.

No we are only on episode 34 of this series and the boy already feels so much pressure to be the hero.

Syrus bring up the nightmare and reminding Jaden of it. Chumley glaring at him.

I love the difference between Syrus, Chazz and Chumley having fun and messing around vs Jaden having all these dark thoughts about his current situation. About how dueling is no longer a game.

All the duel spirits leading their partners to the ‘spirit festival’

Why is there a portal to the spirit world in the boys bath???

You know au Jaden nearly lost it when he hear his Oto-san’s voice only to find out it was Kaiba man

I have a strong head cannon that Seto want a card that helped bring Blue eyes out faster, Pegasus made the card (a colab between the two) to Kaiba when Jaden was still young. He made it with Jaden’s love of heroes in mind and to poke fun at Kaiba. Seto hated it when he first saw it and wanted a redesign but then little Jaden squealed and was so pumped that Seto was a super hero!!! And you know it is a good card to get blue eye on to the field so he might as well keep it. Never mind the fact that Jaden loves it, that doesn’t factor in at all….

So when Jaden turns to find Kaiba man there he almost wants to cry. He’s under so much stress. And he really wants his Dads but he doesn’t want to put them in danger and now this duel spirit is here which is a reflection of his Oto-san and it’s just a lot

But then all of those feeling go as he jumps to the conclusion that this is a shadow rider trick. And he’s furious because that’s his Oto-san’s card and now he has to duel it for his life?? How many more of his families cards are going to try and kill him? Joey’s Jinzo and Red Eyes, Seto’s vampire lord, the Ishtar tomb keepers. And now Kiaba man!!!

And it doesn’t help that Kaiba man won’t tell him if he’s a shadow rider. No he just challenges the kid. Jaden of course accepts and then this man stands there and reads Jaden for filth. “I sense fear a deep fear of what losing will cost you and your friends” ratting out Jaden’s fear and insecurities to his friends

And then pulls out Blue eyes on the kid. I know cannon Jaden is just shocked by the card but Au Jaden is about to face his Oto-san’s spiritual protector being wielded by a ‘shadow rider’ who looks and sounds just like his Oto-san he’s not having a great time

I love that cannon Kaiba made Kaiba man that’s hilarious

“Witness the beast that will feast upon your souls.” Not the best thing to say to Jaden right now.

Au Jaden knows these cards, he knows these strategies. He grew up watching Oto-san defeat enemy after enemy using them. He’s dueled against them before. But he’s never won against his Oto-san before. And unlike his duel against Yugi’s deck this isn’t some copy cat taking the deck of a soon. No Kaiba man is dueling just like his Oto-san does.

Jaden is giving it all he’s got. He’s got Edgeman out and skyscraper. He’s able to take out one of the blue eye impressing everyone even Chazz.

But he’s full of fake confidence “I am so over my fear” he says while sweating. “The trick is to take what you’re afraid of and not let it happen.” Oh sweet boy no.

Kaiba man is immediately on him. He only beat one blue eyes. “The fate of you and your friends is still in the balance and you have to accept that and face it head on.” “This is how a true duelist lives not afraid of defeat but always ready to accept it this is the nature of dueling.”

Love Chazz being the one to recognize that the deck is the same as Seto Kaiba’s.

Blue eyes ultimate dragon!!! The fact that Jade dreamed of this dragon. Au Jaden has to be going crazy.

“If you won’t except defeat I’ll force it on you.” Defusing ultimate to get out three blue eyes is crazy.

Winged Kuiroh is all worried for his partner. And the first thing Jaden does is cry out for his friends

Oh Jaden was hurt in the duel.

“Defeat is nothing to be scared of Jaden. What matters is if you can get up after.” The whole duel was to comfort Jaden “are you afraid anymore.” “No im not.” “Because you faced it and you’re okay. And so are they.”

Kuriboh the one who brought them there just to help out Jaden.

Syrus why are you saying that these spirits are just cards.

In the au this is going to go crazy. At this point Jaden has faces his Dad’s/Uncle Atem’s deck (had to win it back form a theif) his Uncle Joey’s cards (Jinzo and Red Eyes) in shadow duels. He has to be freaked out. The cards that have always protected him are now being used against him, sometimes with his very soul on the line.

He’s stressed and afraid of what will happen to him and his friends if he doesn’t win. And this all leads to his nightmare about Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon attacking him and killing him and his friends. His Oto-san’s vampire lord was just used against him and it’s the only Ace from the original DM deck he hasn’t faced yet.

(He can’t even imagine facing off against Silent Magician or Gandora)

But he has this horrible nightmare and he just can’t shake it.

Winged Kuriboh reaches out to the other spirits about his partners dream and how to help him. His calls make it all the way to Yugi and Seto’s monsters. They are outraged at the thought of someone using them against Jaden and deeply hurt that Jaden now fears them.

They reach out to their duelist and while Yugi and Seto want to rush to their son and fix his problems for him they know they can’t. So they do the next best thing.

In a very Kaiba move, Seto send Kaiba man. He instructs him to use his deck and to not hold back. Jaden has to face this fear head on. He never wanted Blue eyes to be used against him or his family, so Jaden dream really hurts him to. If there is one card Jaden can trust will never hurt him it’s Blue Eyes. Sending Kaiba man will do two things. Show Jaden it’s okay to lose, and that blue eyes will never actually harm Jaden.

At the end of the duel Jaden is exhausted and his chest hurts from anxiety and his winds from Shadowrider and Camula, but he has no new injuries for Blue Eyes attacks.

Yes Winged Kuriboh set everything up but Kaiba man reports to Kaiba. He knows all about the duel.

Also question why do you think the writers let Jaden beat a copy of Yugi’s deck but lose to Kaiba’s like use different circumstances and lessons but it is interesting to look at.

Episode 35

Chazz if the goal is to go back to obelisk blue why did you go so hard on the room renovation? 

Love that Jaden and Syrus just start jumping on his bed and then very casually “principle Sheppard says he wants to see you.” “What about?” “Oh just the fate of duel academy.” They are still jumping on the bed. I love that the school getting shut down at this point is so unexciting

Au Jaden hearing that someone wants to buy out duel academy. In his head “too-San is not going to like this.”

The. He hears that the person wants to fire all the teachers and shit down the school and he thinks back to all the times Seto angrily said he was going to fire all the teachers and possibly shut down the school “never mind he might be thrilled!” He won’t be. A Kaiba never loses

Love that Kaiba in cannon says “I don’t care about the money. It’s about the cards. Beat one of my students and the school is yours.”

You know au Seto was so excited for his son to whoop them. Jaden’s become the go to kid for duel academy. Seto’s sure that they will pick either Zane, top student, or Jaden as revenge for beating their brother on public television.

He did not expect them to pick their own kid brother. He hates these two with a fiery passion. He’s not worried. Jaden says that Chazz is a good duelist so he will trust the kid.

Seto is wild for saying yes to a duel between and adult and a child where the adult can use any card even super expensive. And the child can only use monster cards with less than 500

All the kids turning on Chazz and Chazz having to walk through the halls and listen to that crap

Jaden standing up for him “duelist don’t come much tougher.”

“That’s the problem.” I love that it’s Zane who catches on that Chazz’s deck is to strong

Dr banner you are a teacher. You have to have a better solution then go to the haunted well that’s full of angry abandoned spirits

Jaden is sing the theme song. You got to love a dub

Jaden goes with him because he’s worried about the duel spirits. Chazz is so chill about spirits. It’s just Jaden it doesn’t matter if he sounds crazy

The Ojama brothers!! All the weak duel spirits want to go. Chazz “anyone who wants to can come with me.” You are such a softy

I know him and Jaden picked up all of those cards together.

The animation of his brother’s fist shaking is a very nice detail.

It’s such a good duel. It’s the first time Chazz uses the Ojama’s and it’s such a great character moment for Chazz.

The boy who only cared about strength is using a weak deck and showing off his ability to strategize. It’s such a good show of Chazz’s growth.

Love that he makes them do his chant. But “you go bye bye” is still not the catchphrase you think it is you need.

Seto “of course he won. You really think I’d give my school to those two? They have a lot to learn about world domination.” Sir. Love the confidence but are you teaching classes on how to dominate the world now?

Chazz’s room in Slifer dorm is full of duel spirits and he’s so over it. His new family.

Episode 36

Bastian wants them all to be ready. But it’s the first time I’ve seen someone summon a monster to wake people up. (As serious as Bastian claims to be he really is just a silly kid like the rest of them.

Ahh the card crush episode. (In the sub isn’t Jaden like super confused by this concept??) Bastian please chose a different card to have a ‘not crush’ on

Tania bribing the students to build her an arena. (Aren’t they in love with her after she beat them?)

Alexis being upset that Tania won’t duel her.

Tania having two decks does make her a nice balance for Bastian and his six decks.

Tania these are children. 1st years 14-15 or is it 15-16? Either way they are babies. Not potential husbands.

Like she’s very fun and I love her energy. She keeps out smarting him and the Narrative makes them a good balance. And I know she comes back in season 3 and she’s a duel spirit. But how old are you???

Amazoness paladin has Mai hair and it’s a nice call back to her since she played the amazoness in DM

I know she’s doing this to distract him but Bastian falling for it. Sigh

Jaden is over this. Asking for barf bags. He’s so un serious.

Bastian losing because he got distracted by someone flirting with his relatable but also feels disrespectful.

She just kicked them all out and kept her man. Like wow.

Episode 37

Bastian and Tania broke up because he can’t win. This is the beginning of the down fall of Bastian. Is this why he goes crazy in season 2? Like he does get pushed to the side by the narrative. But he feels like everyone forgot about him. Did the fear of not being good enough start here?

He’s going through such a ruff break up. Bastian would blast Taylor Swift’s ‘down bad’

Jaden “just duel her again” “‘I’ll be your wingman.” I love the energy but maybe “don’t take no for an answer.” isn’t the best advise to give. No is always an answer.

Jaden is trying to hard to help his friend.

Immediately distracted by a duel. He takes up that duel offer so fast.

They are spiritually fist fighting. Gx is so ridiculous

Bastian is back! Hurray.

Her turning into a tiger is wild.

We will stop here for now. We got two really good episodes for the au and two Bastian episodes. I’ll probably switch somethings up in the Bastian duels or maybe I’ll leave them as is. We shall see when I get to writing this.

Relieved does not even begin to describe how he feels. His friends are safe, most likely exhausted but safe, and tension between countries on Earth have settled down. Lord Chumley was in Soviet custody and with any luck would be exposed for not only this but his many other crimes and be behind bars soon.

Happy as he was for these outcomes the anger in Prime over this whole ordeal had not yet fully burned out. It was concerning that a human, even if most of even the worst were not as sick and sadistic as Chumley, could capture his Autobots, hold them against their will and torture them with such ease. Just to lure him into that little game of 'sport'. It was sicker than a stunt even Megatron would pull.

Keeping upset most likely wasn't helping the tension in his system clam down either. The fight the big game hunter and his machines put up was a tough one, and it left the leader feeling sore all over. Not that he could talk, what with the sort of things Track, Grapple, Bumblebee and the others had gone through, his wounds were minor compared to that. And he refused to leave the medical bay until he knew each and every one of them were alright.

You would be unwise to dismiss the William/Rose affair. Giles Coren has a sister called Victoria Coren Mitchell. Victoria is best friends with Claudia Winkleman. Claudia has a sister called Sophie. Sophie is married to... Lord Frederick Windsor.

That’s still fifty thousand degrees of separation from the Cambridges and the Chumleys.
