Ganito kasi yan eh.

Police in central Thailand said they barricaded themselves into their own station over the weekend, after a menacing mob of 200 escaped monkeys ran riot on the town. The human inhabitants of Lopburi have long suffered from a growing and aggressive monkey population and authorities have built special enclosures to contain groups of the unruly residents. But on Saturday around 200 of the primates broke out and rampaged through town, with one posse descending on a local police station. "We've had to make sure doors and windows are closed to prevent them from entering the building for food," police captain Somchai Seedee told AFP on Monday. He was concerned the marauders could destroy property including police documents, he added. -Traffic cops and officers on guard duty were being called in to fend off the visitors, the Lopburi police said on Facebook on Sunday.

Monkey ‘mafia bosses’ now rule parts of this Thai city
Apr. 12, 2024 Humans and monkeys once peacefully coexisted in Lopburi, a mid-sized city in Thailand, but no more. Its downtown is overrun with more than 2,000 long-tailed macaques, snatching food and belongings from passersby. Wildlife authorities say the monkeys expanded turf during lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic with the alpha males now acting like gang leaders. The World’s Patrick Winn reports that they are proving difficult to dislodge.

It's November 27th, 🙉 Monkey Festival Day in Lopburi, Thailand. Today, the macaques who call the ruins of Pra Prang Sam Yot Temple their home will be treated to a bountiful banquet being held in their honor.
The festival was created in 1989 by local hotel owner Yongyuth Kitwattananusont, who wanted to boost the tourism industry in Lopburi Province. He succeeded. This unique event has become a major tourist attraction to the point where now thousands of sightseers visit every year.
The festival kicks off with an opening ceremony that includes performances by dancers in monkey costumes. When the monkeys arrive, hosts remove sheets from the banquet tables and reveal decorative spreads of vibrantly hued fruits and vegetables. The macaques jump across tables and climb towering pyramids of durian, bananas, watermelons, pineapples, lettuce, and more, indulging to their hearts' content.
Respect for monkeys traces back at least 2,000 years to the epic tale of Rama, a divine prince, and his struggle to rescue his wife, Sita, from the clutches of a demon lord. According to the tale, the monkey king Hanuman and his army helped rescue Sita. Since that time, monkeys have been appreciated as a sign of good luck and prosperity. This annual festival is a way the people of Lopburi show their appreciation. Peace… ☮️ Jamiese of Pixoplanet

Learning about Lopburi, the Thai town where two rival gangs of monkeys have been fighting in the streets
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Police have been trying to capture the “leaders” but the monkeys know how to identify a tranquilizer gun, so they scatter as soon as they someone raise one. Cops have to hide the tranq gun until they get close.

Thai police station comes under monkey attack
A mob of 200 mischievous monkeys caused chaos in Lopburi, central Thailand, after escaping from their enclosures on November 16. The primates rampaged through the town, with a bold group storming a police station. Officers barricaded themselves inside, sealing doors and windows to protect vital documents and prevent the animals from scavenging for food. Traffic police were reassigned to fend off…

you know, it's just hit me just how alone Sky was before Prapai came into his life . when sky falls sick and Rain can't take care of him, he calls Prapai. it may make some sense that he doesn't call Sky's dad because perhaps his dad is too far away (wherever Lopburi is), but what about his uncle? aunt? cousins? this is a bit of an assumption based on my own experience, but in Southeast Asian culture its pretty rare to NOT have some wider circle of relatives that you're fairly close to. i'm not as close to my cousins who live very far away but i still know i can call on them if i need anything, even the ones i only saw once a year growing up.
in the series, Sky explains that he lived with his uncle and but then was given a house (to live in alone?) near his school. and then it seems like all contact with that family was cut off. why? did he not get along with his cousins/aunt? did his uncle never check in on him again? how'd he get so isolated? (i wonder if this uncle was on his mom's side, maybe, that could explain the estragement.)
no wonder Gun was able to so thoroughly sink his claws into Sky. he had no one to protect him, no one to see the warning signs, and no one to run to even when he was desperate. it tells us how strong Sky is because he saved himself the first time, but it also breaks my heart because he has to learn to be so self-sufficient that he never tells even Rain, Sig and Por (his closest friends at uni) about anything on his plate.
he's internalised the idea that his problems are his own and he can never, ever rely on anyone else.
and then Prapai comes along and doesn't allow him to not rely on him. its exactly what Sky needs. Prapai winds up becoming more family to Sky than his own because he takes him into his family (I love the focus in the Special Ep on how much Prapai's family adores Sky). Prapai gives him not just love and safety in their relationship, but a wider social safety net: people he can rely on even if Prapai isn't there (his family, Namtan, an additional connection to Payu beyond Rain), something that he's not had since he was a teenager. that's SO important, especially in a cultural context that is far more collectivist then individualistic and where your family really are the people you usually can count on to have your back when push comes to shove. Prapai gives back everything that was ripped away from Sky - love, trust, family, safety, and belonging. <3
