Yes :D
Anyway, I've recently been playing through the Aldmeri Dominion questline in ESO, and everything with the Silvenar and Green Lady has intrigued me, particularly in the way they are meant to reflect the Bosmer people and how they could therefore reflect Bosmer gender (roles).
So the Green Lady is presumably always a woman (given the title) but the Silvenar can be a man or woman based on whichever sex is more prominent in the Bosmer population (but the only Silvenars we as the audience have ever known have been men). The Green Lady embodies the physicality, strength, and "primal" nature of the Bosmer while the Silvenar represents the spirituality, emotionality, and more modern society of the Bosmer. From my understanding, they sorta represent the current needs and wants of the Bosmer people (in like a literal supernatural way) and exist to basically advocate for the needs of them, and in my own personal interpretation is that their presentation and attitudes as a pair could change and shift over the Bosmer generations to reflect changing society and needs, and therefore in this context of gender roles could reflect them in that way.
So the role the Green Lady represents could reflect that women in the Bosmer culture are typically the more traditionally active and strong gender. Perhaps they are more often the ones in charge of hunting and are traditionally characterized as protective and stoic. Meanwhile, given the Silvenar seems to be typically male, Bosmer men might be traditionally more emotional, empathetic, religious/spiritual, etc. and take up more caring and spiritual roles in society. The way the Silvenar can be either sex/gender could even reflect that female gender roles are more flexible while male gender roles are more static, OR that gender identity is more fluid in Bosmer society or more associated with roles rather than sex in some way.
Like, an idea that's just now popping into my head is that perhaps while the Green Lady always ends up a woman, a person of any gender could become the Green Lady and transitions into a woman upon taking on the role if they weren't one before. That's an idea I'll have to think about more.
I've considered gender/gender role headcanons for the Dunmer and how they relate to the Tribunal too, and I was going to add that, but this post is already long enough for an ask, so that can be a post for another day!
Thanks for the ask!

I really really love being a ttrpg GM but I really really don't have the motivation or interest to write my own homebrew campaigns these days but I also really really don't enjoy playing pre-written modules because I have a hard time sticking to what's on the page
Do you see my struggle
There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza dear liza

Used my first day off school for the holidays to write uhhhh this?
“So you wouldn’t like to be men?”
“I wouldn’t say that,” I said.
“You use a man's name,” the madame continued, leaning back into her stack of silky pillows. “You wear men's clothes and carry a sword.”
I also had an above-average pair of tits, of which I was proud. The sight of them alone always rendered Nicolò stuttering and silly.
I told her, “A man is not always a pair of stones and a sword.”
“Oh, I have met plenty of stone-less men, believe me.” She then raised her glass in honor to the man she had hired us to confront.
“Who likes balls anyway,” said Quỳnh, with a curl to her lip. “They’re so vulnerable. Like dried figs…”
Into his cup, Nicolò mumbled, “I wouldn’t mind a pair.”
“You are a pair.”
Andromache and I sat in amused silence as the two of them fell back and wrestled. We really did look like wild things off the streets sometimes. At least, after bathing and tidying their hair, Quỳnh and Nicolò seemed more youthful than feral. Those two could live in a mud patch and be happy as piglets.

Every time I imagine Valentina, my brain goes to Alexa Demie. It might just be me projecting tho bc I'm highkey in love with both of them :p
Tumblr media
hehe no worries anon! i'll go ahead and share this still just for anyone that may have missed that line (currently it's only mentioned in game if you go with her)
a lot of the older vampires we'll meet don't use their true names, including Oberon and Valentina. we'll meet more of them in ch3 where Valentina will mention this, though currently the mc doesn't realize/doesn't remember Valentina's true name.
her culture will come up a little bit, though she's been living in this kind of cyberpunk-y/fictionalized version of the States for a long time now (and so has the mc). Hana, who is mixed African-American & Korean, is using her true name (Lee Hana), and was born here in the early 1900s and was turned in her 20s (she looks the youngest out of everyone)

due to kinda dash reasons rattling sumo for lusa reasons,, im an anime-only so i only found out what lusamine was supposed to be like as per games After id already seen a few eps with her, & that. changed how i see anime!lusa only in the sense of "ah. i shall superimpose that the quirky oopsie airhead mother thing is a big ol Pleasant Mask so alolans dont literally rip her to shreds for what a piece of work she actually is". that said, man it is ridiculous how quick satoshi (per my canon) went from "haha she kinda reminds me of my mama" to "wait lilie's less Embarrassed uncomfortable & more Genuinely uncomfortable, & i know her more than her mother, so i'm gonna stick on lilie's side just in case" to "why does looking her in the eye when she talks about nebby feel exactly like staring at fuladari talking about me & gekkouga" to "maybe i'm just being paranoid. i better be being paranoid. since when do i get paranoid???" until The Shit Went Down & he immediately went to "oh for fuck's sake"

Might I ask what the difference between Social and Insight are? (Feel free to talk about Physical too, if you would like!)
sure, I can do that! 😁 putting this under a read-more as well, for folks that don't want (minor) spoilers:
so there's four main "skills" in Partially Stars, which represent how your character prefers to approach situations and overcome obstacles. Physical, Mental, Social, and Insight.
Physical is pretty self-explanatory. this is strength, dexterity, constitution. choosing a hands-on approach to solving problems. when faced with a locked door, someone with a high score in Physical would try to kick down the door or climb in a window. Sun and Smith both prefer Physical choices to solve their problems.
Mental is also pretty self-explanatory. this is logic, strategy, and intelligence. you prefer to think before you act. you're the person with the plan. when faced with a locked door, someone with a high Mental score would try to pick the lock, or to find a key. Mack and CJ generally try Mental methods first.
Social is interpersonal skills and charisma. it's being able to charm other people into helping you, or at least talk them into looking the other way. someone with high Social skill would talk someone else to open the locked door for them, either as a favor or by convincing others that they were supposed to be there the whole time. Ahmed and Harper are both Social engineers, and use charm (or intimidation) as their first option.
Insight is intuition, perception, and going with your gut. it's looking for a less obvious, and often easier, solution. noticing details that others don't. when faced with that locked door, a person with high Insight might look for another entrance to the building, or they might inspect the door and find that one of the hinge pins is loose enough to remove it from the frame entirely. Captain Akina and Q are both very Insightful, and are aware of a lot more than they let on.
over time, as you start to build up different skills, there will be differences in what you notice in certain situations, depending on what you tend to lean toward, but just because you have a preference for one skill or another doesn't mean you can't choose one of the others once in a while 😉 maybe a physically-skilled stowaway wants to try a more subtle approach and try picking the lock this time. maybe an insightful character looks for a different entrance, then decides they'd prefer to kick down the door anyway. nothing has to be set in stone

Terminal City Tabletop Convention Retrospective - 2024

It’s a few days after another great convention experience, so let’s talk a little bit about Terminal City Tabletop Convention – 2024. This year, it was held at the Vancouver Convention Centre which is right on the water in downtown Vancouver. It’s a beautiful site, and also the same venue as SHUX was held in…I don’t remember the last one (hey, let’s link to a blog post that might refresh the…

Also, just since I want to clear the air (and since they were made before the game came out): Lila @/playnights and I's Nyan Nyan and Rhok'zan are siblings rather than Rhok'zan being another niece of the cat.
Really, the non-euclidean hell that it probably is isn't something I'm particularly thinking of, so both could very well be true at once, but for simplicity's sake we'll just smooth that over to siblings.
Of course, if there ever somehow is another Nyan Nyan, I'm more than willing to adhere more to canon for obvious reasons of the source material coming out now.

Circling back to Sam Reich for a second, I think my favorite thing is the difference between Game Changer Sam and Make Some Noise Sam. One is here to chuckle and give out silly little points to his friends/colleagues, the other is here to torment Brennan Lee Mulligan specifically

TTRPGs are so funny because we're all pretty well aware that they're either like the highest stakes drama imaginable or complete slapstick, but this ignores the possibility of the having both happen at the same time. My group's last session is a perfect example of this.
Due to a series of terribly unfortunate rolls, an attempted highway ambush/rescue mission has gone horribly wrong. It's raining, and a characteristically short-sighted idea from our ranger (c'est moi) means the road is six inches of treacherous mud.
On one side of the carriage, our spy has fallen on his own sleeping darts and is out cold, and our naturalist has shapeshifted into a goat. He keeps slipping in the mud and accidentally impaling the guards he's trying to take prisoner. The enemies are also slipping in the mud - basically, every attack is a wiff.
Meanwhile, on the other side...
Out of view of the other two, our ranger (a massive dragon man) and his best friend and de facto leader of the group, our doctor, are locked in combat with two extraordinarily lucky enemies.
The ranger knocks one guard out and tosses him to the side, but when he turns back to help the doctor, he is just in time to see a man jump out of the carriage and tackle the doctor to the ground, stabbing him in the stomach as he does. The doctor struggles to break free, but is only saved from the second blow by the ranger forcing himself between the doctor and the assailant to shield him from the attack and take the brunt of it himself.
The ranger orders the horrified doctor to run and heal himself, insisting he can hold the assailant off. Despite misgivings, but trusting the ranger's strength, which has not failed them yet, the doctor flees into the trees, attempting to cast a healing spell on the ranger as he runs, which fails.
The ranger has lost his dagger in the mud and is at a distinct disadvantage as he continues to roll nothing but 1s. He is too close to use his bow or crossbow, of course, and so he fights with the only thing he has left: his massive, deadly claws, a reminder of the monster he has tried so hard not to become.
It's not enough. His opponent, with a mighty swing and a battle cry, buries his axe deep into the ranger's chest.
The ranger doesn't fall. Not yet. With a final grunt and a miraculous stroke of luck - or perhaps it is an act of compassion from the universe - he pulls a lone crossbow bolt out of the quiver at his waist and plunges it into the neck of the enemy. Both collapse to the group unmoving.
From his shelter in the trees, the doctor knows the ranger is still alive, at least for a few more minutes. There is still a chance at saving him. But then, at the side of the road just a few yards away, the guard previously subdued by the ranger has recovered and is aiming his bow, intent on revenge.
The doctor is too far to take down the archer in time, and he only has enough energy left to use one special ability, which he must save if he wishes to heal the ranger. What else is there to do but repay the sacrifice of his best friend?
He steps into the path of the arrow.
It isn't quite enough to bring him down, and so he charges at the archer and uses the knife pulled from his own stomach to kill the archer.
With the last enemy defeated, all is quiet at last, except for the gentle snoring of the spy and bleating of the naturalist, and the doctor scrambles to the ranger's side. Cradling his friend's head in his lap, he uses the last of his magical energy (which, in this game system, doesn't refill at all until the next session, the amount at the GM's discretion) to heal the ranger as much as he can - just enough to bring him back from the brink of death.
Dawn is breaking already. The doctor is exhausted and injured, and he can hardly even register his relief at their survival. He wraps a bandage around his own waist to staunch the bloodflow, since he has no magic left to heal himself. The ranger has always been there to help at times like these when the doctor was unable to heal himself, scavenging for strange plants and mixing up odd herbal remedies no medical school would teach. They always seem to work, too, neutralizing poison or closing minor wounds, or even just calming a pounding headache - the same headache he has now.
His exhaustion will have to wait.
The spy has broken into the carriage and released the prisoners there, mostly old and sickly after their long and arduous ordeal, and now all of them - including the naturalist who is no longer a goat - are looking to the doctor for leadership.
He helps to get the rescued people into an orderly group, unhooks the two horses from the carriage, asks a couple of the strongest people among the ones they just rescued (the spy and naturalist arent much help because theyre both three feet tall) to help him lift the unconscious ranger (who is, again, an 8 foot tall dragon man) onto the back of one of the horses, sends the horse ahead with the healthiest person he can find, and begins to lead the 6 mile trek back to camp.
-
so anyway, that's what happened lmao. Bonus character illustrations of the ranger and doctor:
