Guess who's got two thumbs AND a special use permit to give guided nature tours at Willapa National Wildlife Refuge in Long Beach, WA?
Yep, that'd be me! I am SUPER psyched about this; even though I love all the public lands in the Columbia-Pacific region, I have a particularly close relationship with the Refuge and its many varied habitats. So landing a permit to give tours there is a HUGE feather in my cap!
To celebrate, I've added a scheduled group tour that anyone can register for at the Porter Point Loop Trail on the evening of Thursday, July 13. You can register for that and my other scheduled tours on my EventBrite page at https://www.eventbrite.com/o/rebecca-lexa-naturalist-66370291503. I'm also available for booking for private guided tours; more information can be found at HireaNaturalist.com.

September 26 2022 - Jake The Alligator Man!
Hello everyone! Firstly, I just wanted to thank you for your support on my last post! I apologize for my absence, got a bit too busy to post, but I'm hoping that two posts today will make up for that!
Secondly! A disclaimer:
This cryptid has been disproved and is nothing more than a tourist trap. That said, it's very personal to me and I wanted to talk about it. The next post today will be about a genuine/non-disproven cryptid!
TW///// Dead Animals, Taxidermy, Pictures of dead Animals (Mummified, non-graphic)
//////
Okay! Time to discuss our friend Jake the Alligator man!
Jake The Alligator man is a "Cryptid" and tourist trap located in Long Beach, WA, in Marsh's Free Museum. Jake is a half-monkey, half-baby alligator mummy that was sewn together at the waist to give off the appearance of a half-man, half-gator mummy. He was acquired from an antique store in 1967 for $750. I could not find any evidence of where he was from originally, but considering his relation to other tourist traps like the "Fiji Mermaid" (future post?), it's likely Jake came from some sort of travelling circus.
His story (lore? Background?), coming from the Tabloid Weekly World News, is that he was a "Half-human, half-alligator discovered in Florida swamp". Jake has been a very lucrative and successful attraction that calling him a "tourist trap" feels disrespectful, even if technically true.
All-In-All, Jake the Alligator Man holds a special place in the hearts of many Pacific Northwest Residents (Including yours truly), and despite his dubious origins, He will always be our alligator-man-monkey-thing.

A windy day at North Head Lighthouse near Cape Disappointment, WA. A woman, streaked in white paint, was sitting at the entrance, painting around the door. Renovations were in progress, so we couldn't enter. — April 24, 2023

Warped Tour 2025 venues announced
Yesterday Loudwire posted an article on Twitter with the three first Warped Tour venues planned for 2025 ⬇️
These are: Washington DC, Long Beach/CA, Orlando/FL - unfortunately we don't know the lineup yet, but I truly hope Falling In Reverse will be one of the main, headlining bands.
Today RockFeed posted an even more detailed news about these forthcoming venues fixed by Kevin Lyman, founder and owner of the festival.

RockFeed says:
Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman says the festival could expand to more cities if the comeback goes well next year. He told Rolling Stone: “If it works, we’ll look to the future to do more.”
Warped Tour announced their highly anticipated return taking place in three cities to start: The Fields At RFK Campus in Washington, D.C., June 14-15. Long Beach July 26-27 at the Shoreline Waterfront. November Warped Tour will take place at Orlando’s Camping World Stadium Campus Nov. 15-16.
