Hello there!
My name is Smokey (she/they), and this is going to be my liveblogging experiment. My main account is @smokestarrules and I’ve been wanting to make a blog for this for a while now, and am only getting to it now!
I plan to try and post at least one episode every other day, if my schedule allows it (which it should until at least May.)
--
I’ve just recently read through both Kyoshi novels, and I now plan on going through and liveblogging Avatar: The Last Airbender to start. If that goes well, I’ll start Legends of Korra next.
Episodes will be tagged as ATLA 1x01, ATLA 1x02, and etcetera. In the case of the Kyoshi novels, they’re just tagged as their title.
I’ve technically seen a bit of ATLA and LOK before, but it was like ten years ago, at some homeschooling convention and I was not paying attention at all, so I think this still counts as my first time watching. I also know most characters’ names, because I don’t live under a rock, but tbh that’s about it for my knowledge.
Yeah! Hopefully this works out like I want it to!

Finished the second Kysohi Novel. I liked it quite a lot. All told, her story isn't quite as satisfying as Aang's or Korra's, but it was really only the earliest chapters of her very long life and the uncertainty was a purposeful theme. The novels are definitely a thrilling read. I look forward to rewatching the shows now with the added perspective.
I wonder if Lao Ge is still around somewhere. He really intrigues me. In my head I was pretty much picturing and hearing the guy who asks Korra for a fish LoK 1x01. Now my brain is trying to construct a headcanon where that's actually him.
It's hard for me to understand Yun, but perhaps I'll track his arc a little better whenever I reread these books. I don't really have much in the way of kind feelings toward him by the end of it, with everything he does, but I do feel a bit sorry for him.
I'd like to think that, if I were Zoryu, I would've stepped down to try and keep the peace. Dude ended up being a disappointment.
The Kyoshi/Rangi relationship is easily my favorite part, though I wish there had been more of it. I'd love to see more of what the two of them are like in happier moments.
These books were definitely worthy additions to the Avatarverse and I'm glad I finally made the time to read them. I'll definitely have a deeper appreciation for Kyoshi from here forward.

Legend of Korra: Episode 3 Thoughts
I liked this one! Mako and Bolin are actually characters now. I appreciated the look on how normal people live in Republic City. It definitely seems that Lightning bending has DEFINITELY spread. I’m wondering how sense it was supposed to be so difficult but ok. The setting is definitely complex. I’m also wondering what’s going on with the economy. Like it’s clear things aren’t going so well and I want to know why? I know, overthinking it. But since it is a driving force here… Also, I’m already doubting Amon’s power to get rid of bending. It’s just kind of suspicious that he can do that when there was just an emphasis on how he leads chi blockers. I mean, I can see him having it but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s related to chi blocking. Anyways, good episode!

for me, villanelle's the one i hc as a lesbian, and it's not just bc she has no romantic interest in men, but also... from what we've seen, her sexual fulfillment w a dude was... zero. we have no context for that threesome, but sebastian sex clearly wasn't it lol. AND she also got turned on enough to fuck him only after she saw that lady. and idk, it reminded me of my "can we get this over w so i can move on asap cuz this sucks" encounters w men lol. but i also don't want to get shit for it.
I defintely see why you see it that way. Tbh the idea of lesbian! Villanelle passed through my mind too, after seeing her interactions with Sebastian lol.
I personally see Villanelle as bi with a large preference for women (possibly due to some trauma or lack of trust towards men). And my reasons for that is because she strikes me as someone who isn't confused about her sexuality and yet she still has engaged sexually with men. I can't see her doing something that she didn't really want to do. But you are right that we don't know the full context of the threesome in 1x01 and that her interactions with Sebastian showed a big lack of interest. (Looking at the woman while they were on their "date"" and clearly not getting off when they had sex). So I do see where that headcanon is coming from.
It sucks that we don't feel comfortable discussing those headcanons freely. I do understand why some people have knee-jerk reactions to those kind of things because automatically calling any female character that shows interest in a woman a lesbians IS a problem in fandoms. (To this day, there are still people who call Korra and Asami from LoK lesbians despite the fact that their creators confirmed them both as bisexual). But lesbian headcanons aren't doing any harm when they're directed towards characters who are not confirmed as bisexual.
I think Eve and Villanelle are both deeply complicated women whose sexualities will probably never be explicitly confirmed (especially Villanelle's). So I think we should all just respect each other's headcanons and agree that they are both gay for each other, no matter what their specific sexuality is.

I'm finally watching Legend of Korra! So far I'm really enjoying the animation. It's so expressive! It's interesting to already see all these different plot threads. It's a lot different from AtlA already in that from the start we knew the goal was to stop the Fire Nation. I suppose here, our goal is to bring peace to Republic City but the how is a lot more complicated that just take out the Fire Lord. There's Triads and Non-Benders and an unstable political situation. This is very much taking on the society that was built instead of a bad guy. I'm excited to see where this goes
