I'm reposting an OC Ask I got about Lloyd once, because I am actually quite pleased with how current it all still is.

Something really awesome they can do: Lloyd can get his hands on practically anything in a matter of hours. It’s probably best not to ask how.

UPDATE: Lloyd can repair just about any mechanical device with a roll of duct tape and some chewing gum. It's good enough for government work.

A person, creature, or thing they adore: Marty is basically the little brother Lloyd never asked for. He’d gladly die for the kid, but complains endlessly when he’s asked to do anything less.

A secret they’re hiding: You know that one time when Lord Hater got everyone on the Skullship a thoughtful gift that motivated them to do the very best job they could? Lloyd was no exception. No one is sure just his gift was, and he refuses to tell.

He’s not a paranoid Watchdog, but he is now concerned that Hater might actually be able to read minds.

Something they truly fear: Lloyd’s afraid of failing and letting his loved ones down. He’s cleverly ensured that no one will ever count on him. He’s never going to let anyone down, so there’s no reason  he even needs to think about this fear. It practically doesn’t exist.

A fond memory of theirs: It took some maneuvering, but Lloyd once got off the active duty roster for an entire month. It wasn’t an official vacation (that would take the joy out of it), he just got himself lost in the shuffle. He was caught by the end of it, but not even Peepers could prove he did it on purpose.

I mean, Peepers didn’t have to prove anything. That’s more of a point of personal pride.

A place or item which gives them strong feelings: He feels safe in confined spaces. They’re cozy. Snug. He doesn’t need feeling in his arms anyway. (Yes, I’m stretching it. Lloyd just isn’t a sentimental guy.)

A dream or ambition for the future: Lloyd’s only ambition is to never do anything productive. Ever. He wants to lay around, drink soda, eat chips.

An angsty fact about them: For all his smugness, Lloyd doesn’t feel good about himself. He tries to be flippant about it, but all he really has to take pride in are his own character flaws.

A domestic fact about them: He’s got snack stashes hidden throughout the Skullship, including the brig. He always ends up in the right cell, because he will bribe the guards with a share in his loot.

A random other fact: Okay, maybe caring about others and acting from a place of selflessness is worth it, a little. Whatever. Wander doesn’t have to gloat about it.

Nearly 1 in 3 adults in the Medicaid program has a mental health condition, and a fifth of its members have a substance use disorder. “This is probably disproportionately sweeping up those that are most distressed, most ill and most in need of care,” Clement said. Private insurers that manage Medicaid plans, also known as managed care organizations, are often paid a fixed amount per person, regardless of the frequency or intensity of services used. If they spend less than the state’s allotted payment, plans are typically allowed to keep some or all of what remains. Experts, senators and federal investigators have long raised concerns that this model may be incentivizing insurers to limit or deny care. “They basically manage the benefits to maximize their short-term profit,” said David Lloyd, chief policy officer with the mental health advocacy group Inseparable and an expert on state-level mental health parity laws. Lloyds sets aside £450m for car finance probe

Banking giant Lloyds has set aside £450m to cover the potential cost of an investigation into car finance deals by the UK’s financial regulator.

A probe into whether people had been paying too much for cars was launched by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) last month.

Brokers who arranged car financing earned commission on the interest rates that they set for customers.

Lloyds revealed the provision as it announced a big rise in annual profits.

The bank said pre-tax profits jumped to £7.5bn last year, which was higher than expected and up 57% from the year before.

Watchdog to investigate compensation over car loans

The FCA announced last month that it would investigate whether people who believe they were charged too much for car loans were owed compensation.

Under what were called discretionary commission arrangements, some lenders had allowed car dealers to adjust interest rates on loans, which would improve the commission they received. In short, the higher the interest rate, the higher the commission.

As a result, these deals created an incentive for brokers to increase how much people were charged for their car loan.

In 2021, the FCA banned these arrangements, saying it would collectively save drivers £165m a year.

The amount that Lloyds eventually pays to cover compensation could be higher or lower than the initial amount it has set aside.

However, Lloyds is seen as the most exposed of the major banks to any claims, as it owns one of UK’s largest motor finance providers, Black Horse.

Some analysts have claimed that the total compensation bill could run into the billions.

Speaking to the BBC’s Today programme, Lloyds chief executive Charlie Nunn said: “The extent of any misconduct or loss on behalf of customers, if any, remains unclear so we welcome the FCA’s announcement a few weeks ago to look in to this to provide clarity for customer and the industry.”

Matt Britzman, equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said the £450m set aside by the bank was “less than some had feared but there will be question marks around how Lloyds has come to that figure”.

“Lloyds has been honest in saying the outcome of the review is largely unknown,” he added. “What we do know is that Lloyds is one of the more exposed banks should the FCA deem there was misconduct and customer loss.”

UK withdraws guarantees on Covid loans worth around £1bn

The UK government has withdrawn guarantees on about £1bn ($1.2bn) worth of bank loans to sick businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Reuters.

State-owned British Business Bank (BBB), which runs the lending schemes, has removed government guarantees from 10,786 loans totalling ��979m as of 11 October, protecting taxpayers from some losses.

The amount so far represents only a small fraction of the £77bn of loans issued, a move that follows pressure from lawmakers and the UK’s public spending watchdog, which accused the schemes of being too lenient. According to the latest figures, only £17bn had been fully repaid by borrowers as of 30 June, so the figures could rise further.

Dozens of lenders, including the Big Four banks, Barclays (BARC.L), NatWest (NWG.L), Lloyds (LLOY.L) and HSBC (HSBA.L), have taken part in the government-backed programmes. Representatives for Barclays and HSBC declined to comment, while representatives for the other two banks were unavailable.

Banks Slammed On Low Savings Rates

Bank bosses have been probed by the UK's financial watchdog over complaints that interest rates on savings are too low and are not being passed on to savers.

Higher interest rates have led banks to put up mortgage costs sharply, but savings rates are barely rising.

Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has finally noticed that savers have been ripped off and says it is an "issue which needs solving", the BBC reports.

Millions of households are struggling with the soaring cost of living, higher mortgage rates and energy bills, which have also failed to come down following the fall in wholesale oil and gas prices.

The heads of the worst culprits; Lloyds, HSBC, NatWest and Barclays banks have been summoned to a meeting by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) on Thursday.

The so-called watchdog will question the banks on their poor savings rates and on how they communicate with customers, according to the Financial Times.

HSBC said it had increased its savings rates "more than a dozen times since the beginning of last year, with every savings product seeing rates increased on multiple occasions during that time".

NatWest have not passed on rates on many of its older accounts at all, leaving it to customers to switch to different accounts to achieve a decent rate on their savings.

The Bank of England has been increasing UK interest rates since December 2021 as it tries to bring down soaring price rises.

Its base rate - which has a direct effect on mortgage and savings rates has risen from almost zero to 5% in the last 18 months.

The Central Bank wants to make it more expensive for people to borrow and spend and encourage them to save – in the hope that we will all spend less so that inflation cools.

Average mortgage rates have soared above 6%, while returns on savings and current accounts have risen by a much smaller amount, in some case not at all.

The average rate for a two-year mortgage deal hit 6.47%, while the average easy access savings rate was 2.45%, a gap of 4.02 percentage points.

The average one-year fixed savings rate was 4.8%.

Low returns on savings combined high inflations is eating away at people’s savings.

This follows over a decade of derisory returns. The banks have been offering poor savings rates since the 2008 financial crisis. Since then, it has been more profitable to borrow money and buy assets such as property, hence the housing bubble and unaffordable homes for first-time buyers.

The big four High Street banks have a monopoly on banking, lending and savings, although challenger banks are making headway.

Many older people are not used to internet banking at a time when the four main banks are closing hundreds of high street branches leaving customers isolated.

Even if the banks increase savings rates increase, money held in a bank account will not give you a ‘real’ rate of return above inflation.

If you want your money to grow so you can build wealth and become financially free you need to invest it into real assets, such as property or the stock market.

This can be done using low-cost tracker funds, unit trusts, mutual funds and pension funds. Average returns in a tracker fund invested in the US S&P 500 index are around 10% per annum, and you can start saving as little as £50 per month into most funds.

Military Members Kicked Out For Refusing COVID Vaccine Seek To Have Their Discharges Upgraded

Service members who received general discharges when separated from the military for their refusal to obey the vaccine mandate say their transition to civilian life has been hampered because they were not given honorable discharges.

The majority of service members kicked out over their refusal to get vaccinated received general discharges. With a general discharge, service members lose all educational benefits, reemployment rights, and civil service retirement credit.

Hayden Robichaux, donor relations coordinator for the Mighty Oaks Foundation, is one such service member. He had to build a career in the Marine Corps. He spent his initial two years serving as the military equivalent of a firefighter. But life as a Marine was interrupted by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin’s announcement of a COVID-19 vaccine mandate in August 2021, he told The Epoch Times.

Robichaux refused the vaccine and sought religious exemption.

“But it seemed like everybody who sought religious exemption was denied,” he said. Months later, a leaked June 2021 memo by the Pentagon watchdog revealed the department may have been violating standards in its process of denying religious exemption requests for the COVID-19 vaccine.

In addition to his religious conviction against the vaccine, he took objection to the fact that the only vaccines offered to service members at the time were labeled as authorized for emergency use, rather than having full FDA approval. This argument stems from the wording of the Pentagon’s vaccine mandate, which covers “COVID-19 vaccines that receive full licensure from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in accordance with FDA-approved labeling and guidance.” Robichaux and others believe that this means the mandate did not apply to any vaccines issued under emergency use authorization (EUA), such as the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
