The Great British Bump Off: Kill or be Quilt #1 by John Allison, Max Sarin and Sammy Borras. Cover by Sarin. Variant cover by Lissa Treiman. Out in April.
"A new cozy mystery from Giant Days' John Allison and Max Sarin following up to their hit baking murder mystery The Great British Bump-Off. Surely there is no vacation more drama-free than a boating holiday along the sleepy canals of Yorkshire? Oh, you'd think so. Sadly, for Shauna Wickle, it's tough to escape poisonous small-town rivalries (and sultry romantic entanglements) when travelling at a steady two to three miles per hour. And to make things worse, she's about to find out how ruinously expensive a hastily-tied knot can be…"

John Allison is one of my heroes; I adore everything he's done (most of which is contained within this shared universe of alternate-Britain which exists inside his glorious mind). The characters are barmy and fascinating, the plots flirt with cliche whilst being completely unpredictable, and it's all so idiosyncratically British (which is a rare thing on the internet, particularly amongst comic makers). (You can find his ongoing work here: https://badmachinery.com/)
Here's one of his side stories I picked up and got signed at a Thought Bubble convention (in Leeds) years ago.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Charlotte Grote is the best character.
An additional note; for most of its run Giant Days (one of the many, many characters of the now concluded but astonishingly long-running ScaryGoRound goes off to University) was written by John Allison but not illustrated by him, instead by Max Sarin and Lissa Treiman, and later Julia Madrigal. Fun fact! I have embarrassed myself both times I have met John Allison, both times at different Thought Bubble conventions. The first time I was unable to hear him politely informing me that my zip was down so many times that it became very awkward, and the second time I was so eager to say hello that I full-on queue jumped and interrupted someone who was already talking to him.

In this concept art, Rapunzel seems to have short blonde hair. Thoughts?
They literally decided to have her natural hair be brown because they were inspired by Mandy Moore herself, who spent her entire young career as a bleached blonde because it was what her producers told her to do. But once she got control of her own career and went back to her natural brown, she never felt more free.
Before Mandy was hired to voice Rapunzel, her hair is blonde in concept art, even after it was cut.

Ooh, and TFA Optimus for the comic ask!
For Optimus
What’s the Furthest Place from Here? By Tyler Boss and Matthew Rosenburg (and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou)
I think TFA OP would relate to this dystopian comic about fucked up kids at the end of the world where adults have disappeared. Very similar vibes to crashing on an alien planet with your weird and irresponsible crew 😂
Tumblr media
For You
Giant Days by John Alison, Lissa Treiman, and Max Sarin
If you like TFA op I think you’ll like this one! It’s a slice of life comic about a bunch of college kids just… navigating the newfound freedom of adulthood.
