Note
any suggestions for queer books for a junior high school library? there's a book order coming up in december and i noticed my school is severely lacking in queer books so i need some ones to request. in particular, we're really lacking in books with transgender and/or bisexual main characters. (also, i'm in the south so books that have been targeted by bans may not be available here)
Absolutely yes. The ban-targeting is definitely a challenge (my Cool for the Summer is actually a great fit for this but may be an issue for that reason), but let’s see what we can do!
For trans main characters I think are a good fit for that age, try Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas, Zenobia July by Lisa Bunker, the graphic novel Cheer Up! by Crystal Frasier, Val Wise, and Oscar O. Jupiter, the upcoming graphic novel Girlmode by Magdalene Visaggio and Paulina Ganucheau (upcoming as in 3 weeks from now, so it’ll be out by December), Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller (genderfluid MC), The Heartbreak Bakery by AR Capetta (agender MC, transmasc LI), The Passing Playbook by Isaac Fitzsimons, Spell Bound by FT Lukens (nonbinary MC), Most Ardently by Gabe Cole Novoa, I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver (nonbinary MC), Self Made Boys by Anna-Marie McLemore, and The Borrow a Boyfriend Club by Page Powars. (Those are all YA except Zenobia July, but I felt like that one might work for older tween readers in a way other titles might not, just because the MC’s a hacker, which is cool.)
For bi main characters, some of the above also fit (I Wish You All the Best and The Borrow a Boyfriend Club come to mind immediately), and also try Cool for the Summer, Some Girls Do by Jennifer Dugan, You Should See Me in a Crown by Leah Johnson, Wish You Weren’t Here by Erin Baldwin, Running With Lions by Julian Winters, Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli (Imogen is newer and great but not sure if college visits are as interesting to junior high students?), Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales, Hani & Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating by Adiba Jaigirdar, I’ll Be the One by Lyla Lee, The Disasters by MK England, the Emry Merlin series by Robyn Schneider, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee, and They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera.

This release includes: Cabaret (new cast), Sunset Boulevard, Nine, The Hills of California, N/A
CABARET September 16, 2024 | Broadway | 4K MP4 (11.64GB) | bikinibottomday’s master Cast: Adam Lambert (Emcee), Auli’i Cravalho (Sally Bowles), Bebe Neuwirth (Fraulein Schneider), Calvin Leon Smith (Clifford Bradshaw), Steven Skybell (Herr Schultz), Henry Gottfried (Ernst Ludwig), Michelle Aravena (Fritzie/Fraulein Kost), Gabi Campo (Frenchie), Ayla Ciccone-Burton (Helga), Colin Cunliffe (Hans), Marty Lauter (Victor), Loren Lester (Herman/Max), David Merino (Lulu), Julian Ramos (Bobby), MiMi Scardulla (Texas), Kayla Jenerson (s/w Rosie) Notes: Excellent 4K capture of the new cast (debuts for Adam, Auli’i, Calvin and Michelle)! Some wandering / readjustment and unfocusing throughout. A bit of occasional obstruction from people walking the aisles. Includes curtain call, audio is fed from external source. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBHS99 | ASKING $20 USD NOT FOR SHARING EXCEPT THROUGH ME UNTIL APRIL 2, 2025
N/A July 27, 2024 (E) | Off-Broadway | 4K MP4 (6.05GB) | bikinibottomday’s master Cast: Holland Taylor (N), Ana Villafañe (A) Notes: Excellent 4K capture of this new political play! Head visible on the bottom right but doesn’t block anything. Some wandering / readjustment and unfocusing throughout. Includes curtain call, audio is fed from external source. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBBC1r | ASKING $20 USD NOT FOR SHARING EXCEPT THROUGH ME UNTIL APRIL 2, 2025
NINE August 10, 2024 (E) | Kennedy Center | 4K MP4 (8.76GB) | bikinibottomday’s master Cast: Steven Pasquale (Guido Contini), Shereen Ahmed (Claudia), Carolee Carmello (Liliane La Fleur), Michelle Veintimilla (Carla), Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio (Guido's Mother), Jen Sese (Stephanie Necrophorus), Lesli Margherita (Saraghina), Elizabeth Stanley (Luisa Contini), Georgina Pazcoguin (Annabella), Paloma Garcia-Lee (Maria), Haley Fish (Diana), Allison Blackwell (Mama Maddelena), Charlie Firlik (Young Guido), Sasha Hutchings (Asa Nisi Masa), Marina Pires (Sister Vincenza), Lucia Giannetta (Giorgia), Yani Marin (Camila), Morgan Marcell (Norma), Kamille Upshaw (Leonor), Dylis Croman (Dr. Ernst) Notes: Great 4K capture of this wonderful production! Act One is pretty messy, with a minute worth of blackout at the beginning then again a few minutes in due to late seating. Alongside that, a lot of it is wideshot and generally not as well filmed as usual. Gets better as the show goes on, and Act Two is much better. Minor obstruction on the far left blocks some action but is generally worked around. Some washout throughout. Increased moments of wandering and unfocusing. Includes curtain call, audio is fed from external source. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBD5eV | ASKING $18 USD NOT FOR SHARING EXCEPT THROUGH ME UNTIL APRIL 2, 2025
SUNSET BOULEVARD September 28, 2024 | Broadway (Previews) | 4K MP4 (10.24GB) | bikinibottomday’s master Cast: Nicole Scherzinger (Norma Desmond), Tom Francis (Joe Gillies), David Thaxton (Max Von Mayerling), Grace Hodgett-Young (Betty Schaefer), Ensemble: Olivia Lacie Andrews (Nancy), Brandon Mel Borowsky (John), Shavey Brown (DeMille/Stan/Finance Man), Hannah Yun Chamberlain (Young Norma/Patsy), Cydney Clark (Joanna/Guard), Raúl Contreras (Finance Man/Frank), Tyler Davis (Sheldrake), E.J. Hamilton (Lisa), Sydney Jones (Dorothy), Emma Lloyd (Mary/Heather), Pierre Marais (Sammy), Shayna McPherson (Camera Operator/Katherine), Jimin Moon (Morino/Hog Eye), Justice Moore (Jean), Drew Redington (Myron/Jones/Camera Operator), Diego Andrea Rodriguez (Artie) Notes: Excellent 4K capture of this anticipated revival’s first preview! Some head / railing obstruction at the front of the stage that occasionally blocks off characters sitting / laying down. 30 second blackout in the New Year Eve scene. There was a glitch with the camera that led to some zooming out without input, which sometimes affects the video (primarily in the first ten minutes). Increased moments of wandering / readjustment and unfocusing throughout. One scene is very dark, therefore very difficult to see and takes a little bit to focus on the main action. Includes curtain call, audio is fed from external source. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBKv1R | ASKING $20 USD NOT FOR SHARING EXCEPT THROUGH ME UNTIL APRIL 2, 2025
THE HILLS OF CALIFORNIA September 24, 2024 | Broadway (Previews) | 4K MP4 (11.28GB) | bikinibottomday’s master Cast: Laura Donnelly (Joan/Veronica), Leanne Best (Gloria), Helena Wilson (Jill), Ophelia Lovibond (Ruby), David Wilson Bares (Luther St John), Ta’rea Campbell (Biddy/Penny), Bryan Dick (Jack Larkin/Dennis), Richard Lumsden (Joe Fogg/Mr Potts), Richard Short (Bill/Mr Halliwell), Lara McDonnell (Young Joan), Nancy Allsop (Young Gloria), Nicola Turner (Young Jill), Sophie Ally (Young Ruby), Liam Bixby (Tony), Ellyn Heald (Mrs Smith), Max Roll (Mr Smith), Cameron Scoggins (Dr Rose) Notes: Excellent 4K capture of this stunning new transfer! Very mild obstruction on the bottom that blocks off little to nothing. Some moments of wandering / readjustment and unfocusing throughout. Includes curtain call, audio fed from external source. https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjBJRq8 | ASKING $20 USD NOT FOR SHARING EXCEPT THROUGH ME UNTIL APRIL 2, 2025

Werebelushi:
I call this my rebuttal to the 'rude comments' I get. 1. Seriously? Not everyone likes clown tfs and I am one of them, so what? My friend Nathan got subjected to some pretty gross RPs which he was involved in and some of those involved clowns and he was groomed in those, he has PTSD, please be respectful to a PTSD sufferer. 2. Uhhh…yeah, but only extreme horny perverts are into leather and pup play and drones, not me. I am allowed to not like them, drone transfromations fetishize robots. 3. I didn't know that the internet consisted of Brian Peck and Dan Schneider. Because i'm pretty sure fetishizing minors, even fictional ones, is against the law, heck there is a rule on Furaffinity that prohibits sexual content of child or characters that look like children. What's that? You think people actually like that shit. Oh I didn't know Jeffrey Jones was here, wait here, i'm going to get my autograph book and ask him to sign it. 4. As someone who has been traumatized by rule34 before I am just going to say this, look rule34 of children's show characters is probably inevitable but come on, I am not saying the characters in general are bad for you to do fanart of, only more sexual fanart. I consider Noddy one of those characters that is too dear to be fetishized, no matter how many lewd Noddy type elf types you make. And when I meant that I hope your favorite kids show characters do become public domain, I meant that I hope you will learn your lesson the harsh-way once someone makes a 'Noddy: Terror in Toyland' horror movie or a 'Barney' horror movie parody, or a similar movie pitch to those and it gets made. Look I accidentally looked up Beauty and the Beast rule34 once while looking up infor on the characters for fanfics and I got traumatized, okay? I did not mean to look that type of content up, it popped up in Google Search. And also a troll of Nathan's used to pick on him with rule34 including one image of Bugs Bunny showing off his 'big carrot', when characters like that aren't supposed to be anatomically correct. 5. Who cares about shit I may have said and done in the past? I already explained all my actions and apologized, when will these people learn that moving on is a thing that exists? 6. I like weird stuff too but i'm not an overly lusty freak about it. I don't go around saying how i'd want to be TGed into Elvira, Lisa Marie (Smith or Presley, even though the latter is dead) or Marisa Tomei, do I? Of course not. I am allowed to like what I like. 7. You do not speak for the rest of the internet, honey. Believe it or not, not everyone has the same tastes and while toon tfs and BDSM may appeal to some, others will not have the same opinion. Last time I checked not everyone on the internet has a thing for characters from shows for kids and families, and not everyone on the internet fetishizes clowns or robots and not everyone likes feral animal transformations.

The Breed (2006)
Release Date: May 18th, 2006
I have many mixed feelings about this one. It’s a Wes Craven horror film, so I expected it to be super good. These people are on an island their late uncle owned, there are no other people there, and then suddenly a pack of dogs attack them. You would think, oh, werewolves? Nope. Supernatural? Noooopppeeee. Genetically enhanced military dogs. Yes, that is who the killers are. There are times where I honestly cannot believe it’s not a comedy movie, like when the guy is swimming out to the drifting plane, and it turns, and there are 2 dogs just hanging out on the wing. That is SUPER funny. They don’t even look like scary dogs! They haven’t physically mutated, they’re just normal dogs! I think they’re German Shepherds. I was embarrassed.
Rating: D. A girl from Orange is the New Black is in it. She can’t...... Act......

Summary, Week 12
Computers have, in one form or another, been around for a very long time. Mechanisms like the Antikythera mechanism, or the Curta calculator show that our ability to use devices to extend our mathematical abilities and understand, interpret, and record complicated realities has been with us for centuries. During World War 2, mechanical computing devices took huge steps forward to help break codes. The Harvard Mark 1, developed at this time, was in non-stop operation from 1944 through 1959. Vacuum tubes replaced gears, and then transistors replaced vacuum tubes, and then circuit boards came along to refine the technology into what we now recognize as computing.
Electronics created problems for designers, as time-honored thinking about the relationship between form and function no longer applied. With function being dematerialized, designers struggled to find new considerations for form language like emotion and narrative and even humor. "Product Semantics" is the fancy term we use to talk about this effort to infuse design with layers of narrative in the absence of mechanical constraints. The use of electronics was easy to find in toys in the late 1970's. As circuit boards transformed other objects, designers began to realize the importance of operational sequences, and new kinds of interfaces that could explain the mysterious operations of a screen-and-button object.
Because design began to be more focused on external form, designers became known for their personal, sculptural form sensibilities. From the Memphis movement in the early 1980s to the Alessi Coffee and Tea Piazza series to Philippe Starck in the 1990s to Marc Newson and Ross Lovegrove today, the era of the Celebrity Designer was born.
Computers challenged designers' abilities to house electronics in designed objects with some sort of logic. They also allowed a new approach to design with the introduction of CAD and CAM systems. Early CAD setups were expensive and limited, and as a result useful in only a few environments. As personal computers became more sophisticated in the 1980s, more professions began to develop computer assisted design tools. When Hollywood began creating 3D animations, putting skins over the wire form drawings, and creating controlled lighting effects, CAD began to resemble what we still use today for design. Because CAD software is inherently math-based, designers were (and still are to a lesser extent) forced to compromise their form language and arrive at a frequently clumsy hybrid of personal expression and geometry.
In a fevered attempt to end with an example of design gone RIGHT, I crashed the class into Smart Design and OXO. Sam Farber spent a lifetime in kitchenware design (Farberware, Copco). His last company was OXO, founded to distribute ergonomic kitchen tools designed in partnership with Smart Design. This was, and continues to be, a happy and successful combination of everything we looked at this semester. Now it is your turn…
