Ajax: From Toxic Masculinity to Defiant Resistance – A Character Study
I never realized just how much of an impact Ajax left on *The Warriors* until I really dove into the series. Ajax is one of the most memorable characters in the original film, embodying toxic masculinity in a way that's hard to miss. From bullying Cowboy, making crass comments about women, and throwing out homophobic slurs, he's abrasive, aggressive, and power-hungry. His few redeeming moments, like defending Cowboy from the Furies, quickly vanish when he falls for a honey trap set by a female cop, leading to his arrest and brutal beating. What’s fascinating is how the adaptation in the concept album reinterprets Ajax while staying true to the spirit of the character. Turning Ajax into a woman could've gone wrong, but Davis and Lin-Manuel Miranda managed to preserve her fire while making her complex and sympathetic. Female Ajax still has a short fuse and runs her mouth, but her aggression is often protective, aimed at shielding the weaker members of the crew. She's the unspoken second-in-command after Swan, earning genuine respect from characters like Fox. Her dynamic with Swan is nuanced—there’s rivalry but also mutual respect. She doesn’t blindly follow orders and openly questions the wisdom of running from the summit, showing early signs of resistance. Her breaking point comes after the harrowing encounter with the Turnbulls, where she nearly snaps. The brilliance of her arc is in how the album frames her anger—not as something to be suppressed but as a survival tool. This comes to a head during the Furies fight, where she leads the charge, encouraging the girls to stop running and fight back. The beast within is unleashed, setting the stage for her tragic encounter with Barnes, played by James Remar, the original Ajax—a stroke of casting genius. Barnes is the embodiment of institutional abuse, a corrupt cop preying on vulnerable women. Some critics didn’t like this change, but it’s grounded in harsh reality. Studies show police abuse against sex workers is alarmingly common ([source](https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9365085/)). Barnes wields his badge like a weapon, making him more dangerous than any gang. Ajax’s decision to swing at Barnes isn’t just personal—it’s symbolic. After a night of running and suppressing who she is, she takes a stand, knowing the system will never punish him. The tragedy is that she pays the price while he walks free, a dark reflection of her movie counterpart’s arrest but with deeper stakes. Her final act of defiance resonates because she fights back when no one else can or will. The song gives her the last word, even as the cops taunt her—a fitting tribute to someone who refuses to be silenced. In today’s climate, Ajax feels more relevant than ever. Her evolution from a cautionary tale of toxic masculinity to a symbol of resistance hits hard. With more people fed up with bending the knee, she’s become a figure of rebellion with teeth—a fierce reminder that sometimes, you have to swing back.

━━ ⟢ SENTENCE STARTERS : WARRIORS ( 2024 ). pulled from the genius lyrics of eisa davis and lin manuel miranda's concept album, based on the 1979 movie of the same name. feel free to edit as needed.
❛ at midnight, there’s a gathering after dark in [place]. ❜
❛ the truce is on. no weapons but your fists, she insists. ❜
❛ time it just right and you might just survive the night. ❜
❛ warriors, come out to play ! ❜
❛ miracles can happen when we gather in the dark. ❜
❛ ‘cause you could do ninety-nine things right, but meet the wrong cop at night and it’s brrap on sight, ya dig ? ❜
❛ survival all depends upon the corner you run to. ❜
❛ what a fuckin’ pain, takin’ a train to a boat to another train ? ❜
❛ come out, come out… ❜
❛ when shit goes down, we intervene. ❜
❛ why the fuck we gotta go uptown ? ❜
❛ we’ve never gone that far uptown… ❜
❛ if the night goes sideways… ❜
❛ hey ! you better have my back, ‘cause this is happening. ❜
❛ [name], you bring the cans and keep taggin’ our sweet graphic. ❜
❛ anybody testin’ these hands will see static, capiche ? ❜
❛ leave your weapons back at home, don’t pack no chrome. ❜
❛ oh please, you know my style. ❜
❛ they call me cowgirl ‘cause i like to ride ! ❜
❛ i’m the youngest and the prettiest, they call me [name] ! ❜
❛ i got two f’s for y’all, fuck around, find out ! ❜
❛ there’s peace so far, but i’m in your corner if that shit goes down. ❜
❛ can you count, suckas ? ❜
❛ nobody’s wastin’ nobody, and that’s a miracle. ❜
❛ can you see how strong we can be if we can agree that it’s all our turf ? ❜
❛ imagine what i had to do to stay on top. ❜
❛ now imagine what we could do if you and your crew got with me and my crew - ❜
❛ you are brothers and sisters now, and anywhere you go, you are home free. ❜
❛ no, i didn’t do this ! i’d never do this ! ❜
❛ i don’t see a way to escape from the crowd ! ❜
❛ get away from the crowd ! make your way downtown ! ❜
❛ go the other way or there’s no getting out ! ❜
❛ who will save us now ? ❜
❛ punch your fuckin’ way through the gate ‘til it breaks down ! ❜
❛ when you woke up today, you didn’t think you could die. neither did i. ❜
❛ i guess we’re running ! ❜
❛ everybody make it ? ❜
❛ we gotta go back and find [her/him/them] ! ❜
❛ it is way too soon to mourn [her/him/them]. ❜
❛ knowing [her/him/them], [she/he/they] probably tried to make things right. ❜
❛ is the truce still on ? ❜
❛ when the night goes sideways, get back home alive. ❜
❛ if the night divides us, meet back up in [place]. ❜
❛ and who decided to make you war chief ? ❜
❛ no, i wanna know ! who gave you the right ? ❜
❛ make your move or fall in line. ❜
❛ we gotta stick together. ❜
❛ we lost [name], we can’t lose you too. ❜
❛ i’ll get us home alive. ❜
❛ [name], just before we go - make our mark and let ’em know that we were here tonight. ❜
❛ we’ll live to see tomorrow if we just survive the night. ❜
❛ looks like they forgot about the truce… ❜
❛ we gotta get past ‘em to catch that train ! ❜
❛ on my signal, five, four, three, two, one, run ! ❜
❛ you won’t leave [place] alive. ❜
❛ why we leavin' ? all the amenities, i really coulda stayed. ❜
❛ [place/group] pissed on us, if you didn’t notice. ❜
❛ you weren’t supposed to bring any liquor. you aren’t supposed to drink on duty, period ! ❜
❛ we coulda stomped ‘em. 'least i flipped ‘em the bird. ❜
❛ it’s alright, nobody can read these maps anyway. ❜
❛ shit, this train’s had it, is that a track fire ? ❜
❛ they want ‘em alive, we don’t. ❜
❛ they’re looking for [person/group], remember ? we can do some lookin’ too. ❜
❛ can’t you see ? i’m havin’ a good time ! ❜
❛ i came to make your dad shit his depends. ❜
❛ let’s kick this town, watch the whole skyline come tumbling down ! ❜
❛ light one match, don’t be scared. you just might watch the world burn. ❜
❛ be a star. better yet, be a shooting star. ❜
❛ let me do the talking, be easy. ❜
❛ what is this, a late-night cosmetology class ? ❜
❛ you dare to cross our lawn ? with your colors on ? ❜
❛ easy, easy, we’re only passing through. ❜
❛ we’ve got no beef with you. ❜
❛ i’m sensing a little condescension. do you think we’re not big time ? ❜
❛ we’re known for our compassion when the chips are down. oh ! and also known for bashin’ in our deadly foes. ❜
❛ hey, i like your vest. you wanna gimme one ? ❜
❛ help us get through and i’ll see what i can do. ❜
❛ bitch, i don’t want a new one, i want the vest offa you. ❜
❛ you really gonna let ‘em walk around all through your little territory ? ❜
❛ i’m losing my cool. ❜
❛ pssh, you ain’t never once been cool. ❜
❛ fuck you, we’re walking home. ❜
❛ you made us get our weapons, now you see what you get ! ❜
❛ hey, let me go to wherever you’re going. ❜
❛ what do you do when they kill everything you believe in, but you still breathin’ ? ❜
❛ i wish i shared your dream of peace, but it’s killing season. ❜
❛ [name], wake the fuck up and tell me what your story is. ❜
❛ we decide if you get to live, see ? ❜
❛ [name], you in a pickle. if i were you, i would start talking right now. ❜
❛ i’m not your judas. ❜
❛ cut me or kill me or riddle my body with bruises, that’s what the truth is. ❜
❛ the truth is you have me confused with my accusers. ❜
❛ so where’s the rest of your crew, then ? ❜
❛ c’mon, let me be and set me free. ❜
❛ if i am guilty then where is my gun ? ❜
❛ you gonna kill me ? then have it be done. ❜
❛ i’mma help you find the one who killed [her/him/them]. ❜
❛ this city will never forgive what you did. ❜
❛ there’s a price on your head for the shit that you did. ❜
❛ go back to the gutter with your late night dates ! ❜
❛ oh, so you’re innocent. ❜
❛ running makes you look guilty. ❜
❛ you got some to say, let ‘em know. ❜
❛ if you wanna survive, burn bright. ❜
❛ quiet girls don’t make it home. ❜
❛ let’s fight, ‘cause i’m sick of being wimps. ❜
❛ i’m sick of running. ❜
❛ we keep runnin’ when we can take these clowns. ❜
❛ we ain’t come this far just to run and hide. ❜
❛ i’ll fight my way to wherever you’re going. ❜
❛ yoo hoo, ladies, you look lost and exhausted. ❜
❛ you’d look prettier if you’d smile. ❜
❛ you wanna show me how you play ? ❜
❛ but you wanted to play, right ? old ass predator looking for prey, right ? ❜
❛ talkin’ that shit, but got nothin’ to say, right ? ❜
❛ this is judge, jury and trial, motherfucker ! ❜
❛ i’m sick of runnin’ when i’ve done nothing wrong. ❜
❛ picked the wrong fight, now you’re in for a long night. ❜
❛ ‘why cause pain ?’ life is pain. ❜
❛ [name]’s just an extra soldier to help us get back home. ❜
❛ if we get home tonight, what’ll we have left ? ❜
❛ matching cardigans ? that’s cute. ❜
❛ where you headed ? look like you’ve been on the run. ❜
❛ now we got a place next door. that might be what you’re looking for. ❜
❛ i will shield you from all harm ‘cause you’ve been through hell, and your shelter is here in my arms. ❜
❛ how are you so beautiful tonight ? ❜
❛ if you need my place to hide, take my hand. ❜
❛ everybody needs a soft place to land. ❜
❛ can we stay on track ? ❜
❛ why’re you being so quiet in this subway tunnel ? whaddaya think, i bite or somethin’ ? ❜
❛ ha. i don’t think you’d like initiation. ❜
❛ so whatcha wanna do, jump me into the crew ? ❜
❛ well, you split from [group]. are you loyal ? ❜
❛ i’m loyal to you. ❜
❛ what’s wrong ? kiss me. ❜
❛ if i’m everything wrong, why’d you keep me along ? ❜
❛ why stick up for a stranger, in spite of the danger ? ❜
❛ i followed the night just to be in your corner. ❜
❛ i’d fight by your side. i would stay in your corner and you know it. ❜
❛ i wanna live, not just live to survive. ❜
❛ don’t know what you think you see in me. ❜
❛ don’t tell me you believe in me. you don’t even know me. ❜
❛ i’m broken, so don’t put your hope in me. ❜
❛ what do you want me to say ? that you’re beautiful ? ‘cause i think we both know that. ❜
❛ you’re more than beautiful. ❜
❛ you’re more than your body. you’re more than these lips, or this face - ❜
❛ if we ever somehow get out of this place, then we’ll go find something new. ❜
❛ the light at the end of this tunnel’s got nothing on you. ❜
❛ i think i see a light or somethin’. ❜
❛ i smell good cookin’ and i haven’t had a bite all night. ❜
❛ they’re so good-looking that i don’t know who to decide i like. ❜
❛ watch ‘em drop with a kick to the dick or the kidney ! ❜
❛ that pretty boy just bit me ! ❜
❛ never follow a beautiful face to a second location. ❜
❛ you can’t kill an idea whose time has come. ❜
❛ he’s waiting for us on our turf. ❜
❛ someday in the city we won’t have to run. ❜
❛ let’s find the train that gets us home. ❜
❛ hey yo, this hot dude bit me ! ❜
❛ i smashed that bad guy with his own chair ! ❜
❛ i’m a walkin’ talkin’ fire-breathing controversy ! ❜
❛ hands where we can see ‘em, if you please. ❜
❛ i’m sick of being afraid of you. ❜
❛ why can’t we just go back home ? why we always on the run from you ? ❜
❛ we put 'them in their place. you want some too ? ❜
❛ oh, you wanna rumble ? no problem ! ❜
❛ mission accomplished, i’ll see you in [place] ! ❜
❛ [name] would’ve beat him, but i am no [name]. ❜
❛ everyone you ever lost is still around, yes. see them in the flickers of the train’s fluorescent light, here in the night… ❜
❛ we’re all on the same train home. ❜
❛ oh, let them stare in judgment, let them witness this. ❜
❛ all we got is us. ❜
❛ we made it home alive. ❜
❛ it’s been a long fight just to see the ocean. ❜
❛ i’ve never seen the ocean. ❜
❛ how do we carry on without them ? ❜
❛ if [name] were alive, we’d be home free. ❜
❛ stay behind me, let [him/her/them] find me. ❜
❛ i am the ghost and i’ve hunted you. ❜
❛ stop. who the fuck are you and why are you here ? ❜
❛ don’t you know i killed [name] ? ❜
❛ you missed me ! and what ? ❜
❛ no one is coming to lend you a hand. ❜
❛ you only know how to break shit apart. ❜
❛ your crew is scared of you, see how it scatters ! ❜
❛ my crew would die for me. loyalty matters. ❜
❛ that’s where the glory is, not in blowing it up but in holding it down. ❜
❛ i don’t know why i’m still alive and some of us gone. i don’t think i’m special. ❜
❛ even though i’m home, i’ve got a knot in my chest that i can’t untangle. ❜

What were some of the things you enjoyed about Encanto? I wanted to like it but it just didn't do it for me.
I thought it was really well-done. There are some story things that don’t sit right with me, and the message is not good, and some of the characterizations are a little irresponsible if you want to consider it a kid’s movie… but I’ll leave that for a different post.
I liked how every character’s design felt like they put so much thought into it. I don’t just mean the costumes (even though they’re genius. Obviously Mirabel’s outfit having little nods to each member of her family, looking like she made it herself just like every helpful thing she does is on her own without superpowers, details like that, we’re great.) I mean, the fact that every character could be separated from the rest of the cast, plopped in their own movie, and still “look” like the main character. At first I didn’t like that. It wasn’t very Bancroft of them. But then I realized:
That’s the point of the movie. Everybody’s special. Everybody’s a miracle on their own, everybody is the main character of their own story, everybody’s important. So they all look like and even have personalities interesting enough to have their own movie, each.
I thought a lot of the humor really hit! Maybe my favorite gag was when Bruno “falls” but then it turns out, no, he’s fine.
I do love the music. I do. I don’t know, I’ve never loved that all of Lin Manuel Miranda’s songs sound like…Lin Manuel Miranda…and all of the main characters sound like him when they sing…but still, I thought the songs had a feeling of unity to them.
I love that the heavy-lifting, muscly girl character sings a song about how she wishes she could put down the weight of expectations—specifically to be strong—and there’s this visual thing in the background. When she sings “but wait! If I could shake! This growing weight!” he donkeys she was carrying around suddenly are wearing makeup and look like unicorns. That could just as easily have been a choice made to accentuate the sudden calm, weightless vibe of the song…they’re dressed like unicorns because it’s a comedic way to communicate “dream sequence…” But I like to think it was also a nod to it being okay for Luisa to STOP being all “stronger than Gaston” and embrace actual soft girliness.
I think the chemistry between a lot of the family members was hit-or-miss, because Mirabel seems awkward around Luisa and her cousins, but much more realistic with Isabella or her mom. But I do think a lot of her interactions with her mom and Isabella are relatable, and realistic. Felt like the filmmakers were putting some genuine experiences into those conversations, and that always boosts the scene.
I think the main character is genuinely likeable—or at least, you can feel for her for a lot of the movie. I mean, sometimes she comes off as annoying to me, but I DON’T think you can walk away from it going, “the filmmakers didn’t know who Mirabel was, she was just whatever they needed her to be in the moment.” I think they had her characterization down: she’s always treading water to keep her head above feeling sorry for herself by refusing to feel sorry for herself, and focus on others.
That’s all kind of washed down the drain by the message being so self-focused, but that’s a post for another time.
Lastly, the written dialogue is pretty good! Again, I think that comes from having a clear idea of what your movie is trying to say, and who each of your characters are in order to nail that message—and Encanto does that, for better or worse.
It knows that it’s trying to say, “all your flaws, strengths, potential and failures make you who you are: and who you are is special.” I don’t love that. But it says it clearly and engagingly, even if…
…well, no, another post! 😅 another time!

Also here are my notes. Not all of them make sense anymore but some do lol.
So we all know i love musicals and thats why i chose this topic. i knew from the beginning that i wanted to do smt with musicals for this but i wasnt sure whT to chose. I was debating doing the portrayal of death in musicals but nit all of you answered in time whether thya would trigger anybody so that was out. The second option was costumes in musical whoch wooild make sense for us as fashion forst graders but then u realised i could include that in this.
Now obviously there isnt one way to make a good musical and its always a matter of opinion. And while i do have an opinion, i tried to form a critical opinion on everything.
Theres a lot of stuff that goes into musicals. When you think of a good one you may think of one with good lyrics or a cool story. But theres also stuff that you don’t think of at first, that alone couldn’t’make’ a good play, but in combination are the most important parts! Like the light design >insert rest of agenda.< (kannst einfach ablesen, was auf der folie steht!)
story wise i think heathers did a great job. Heathers is about a girl who falls in love with a killer. Ups and downs, and just a generally creative and good story with a good and,,more or less sense-making plot. The layout is very good too: a great hook, some happy stuff, scary and then things go down with a bittersweet ending. Im not sure how to explain what makes a good or a bad plot but for reference imma give you cats in comparison as an example of a not so good plot
Talking lyrics, i dont need to think twice to tell you hamilton! Its about alexander the great and his life. There is no way to convince me of anything else. Its a peotic masterpiece which especially brings out alexander hamitons own lyrical genius. Lin Manuel Miranda is a great fan of motifs and mass rhymes, and methaphors. His stylisation is nit only unique but really really good!
but I honestly didn’t like the choreo: it was sloppy and ensemble based. They were just rearranging furniture and stuff. There was only one song, “Satisfied” that was choreographed well. i do however think that westside storry has an awesome choreo! Westside story is about racism and separation between gangs in the 1960’s new york city. It tells storry but it’s still dancing. Good dancing i mean. They mixed elements of ballet with hip hop, flamenco and countles other kinds of dancing and it came out with perfection
and while the tunes are awesome there, there are better ones. Like Rent. But even better: hadestown. A modern retelling of the story of greek mythology god orpheus and his love interest euridacy. The tunes are everything there! It captured the mood and it was,,, seductive to your ears! The orchestra and composer did a great job! Its not easy to make all instruments work with each other so well. Or in the hights! Awesome composition!
yk what else is great about in the hights? The mood! It has ups and downs. An awesome balance thats brought acroos awesomely! Some would argue that SIX is by far the play with the best mood and don’t get me wrong SIX also has a great mood but i dont think they found a good balance for that. The mood is almost exclusively positive for what its worth and it didnt have enough variety
while its not like in the heights had the chance to, they still didn’t have the greatest costumes… however six didn’t have the chance either, but they still did it. They’re original and iconic and make the characters! Six tells the story of the six wives of henry the eighth who were divorced, beheaded, died, divirced, beheaded and survived. Of course there goes a lot into costume making which makes this even better Theres a lot to concidder:
-cholortheory
-color psychology
-prises
-fabric
And then of course the require some necessary qualities like
-quickchanges
-dancable
-rechognise characters (especially when one actor plays several) and set the ensemble apart
-makes no noises OR make specific noises
-You need to concidder the period in which the play takes place, and clothes aren’t the only complicated part of costumes: wigs/ hair and makeup or facepaint can make a whole look!
And the kind of musical can also influence the kinds of costumes. Some examples are
Types/ways of costumes (I tried to make this as few categories as possibles possible)
(Erklären!!!)
- Normal clothing. Examples: come from away, Illinois, the prom
- Periodically./accurate (unter punkt: seemingly adequate) Examples: newsies, the greatest show, something rotten
- Periodically modernised: Hamilton who had periodical clothes and hair and make up modern,
- Modernised: SIX which was almost robitic, descendants
- Interpretation Starlight express, (where trains and cars wore roler skates), tarzan, and lionking? Possibly? I feel like lionking could be a category of its own though to be honest
- made into outfit:: spongebob, Arielle/the little mermaid, (starlight express)
- Actually just costumes: cats, Shrek, beauty and the beast or wicked
- Inadequate: six
- Portraying: into the woods and parts of starlight express
- Simplified: hamilton
- using the stage: illinois, ride the cyclone
then theres storry telling for which i say cats. cats… which is quite ironic. Cats is about…. Well… cats
They could have done better but i still think it’s the best there is! They TELL their storry. Like in six exept they actually have a present that like,, exists. The lyrics alright i guess but the composing could have had a little more variety, however i did love the stage there as well because it was always the same but still did awesome stuff like the train thingy
talking about stages! I think the stage is such an important part thats often overlooked. There are musicals like dear evan hansen, the prom, be more chill or tuck everlasting that have a variety of different sets with self driving probs but it’s just actually different things and not very creative. There are two versions of good stages. One that take you in the setting, but that only works if your setting is a special place. There are many musicals that made this one very well. My top two are frozen on ice and tarzan they are actually in an icepit with icedanging and stuff and in tarzan they swing around like actual monkeys and spray you with water and stuff. The second type is when there is one element thats used through the whole show and that makes the setting. This is also called a Uni-set. One of the best examples for this is probably the grey cube: Falsettos. It’s about aids and judaism (?)
But whats part of the stage design is the light design which is overlooked even more than the stage itself. I know i said said that i didnt like the stage of dear evan hansen but it does have an awesome light design! In general the technical aspects and also the sound design there is really good! Dear evan hansen is about a boy who pretends to have been friends with a kid that recently passed.
then theres what i call the manipulation aspect which is choices that were purposely made but not pointed out. I think that hamilton did a great job here too. A lot of people talking at once when to much is going on in his life and only him talking when he makes the dumbest decision in his life. Walking in straight lines when thinking simple and good but in circles when it’s complicated and a lot. That sort of stuff.
the last aspect is performance. Its hard to rate this since for stage musicals the actors and therefore the performance changes constantly but i think the original tuck everlasting cast did a great job! Tuck everlasting is about a girl, Winnie, who meets an immortal family
something that i honestly probably shouldnt count but gives bonus points is: every musical should have at least one singer tht seems to not even be able to miss a tune if they tried. Sure all singers should be good i love when theres just this one over the top adelle level person. The greatest showman has one and its epic, like,,, goosbumbs throughout the whole song “never enough” with the swedish nightingale. The greatest showman is about Pineas Barnum- an actual guy- who believed in true happiness and that as long as a smile is real, it doesn’t matter if the ‘cause’ of that smile is. He was the reason for the saying “freakshow”
however those are only the best in their aspects but if you’re asking what the BEST MUSICAL IS I definitely say Newsies! im not saying that because i like it -which i do- but actually critically thinking!
Newsies is a Musical based on the newsboys strike of 1899 where the Newsies working for the World and the Journal held the first ever successful strike in america that was organised by kids in history. The story centres Centers around a Newsboy Jack Kelly and his new friend Davey. They start a strike against the owners of the Newspapers and stop selling because they raised the prices for the papers even tho they have more than enough money, when the Newsboys barely make a living. Davey tries to talk him out of it at first but doesn’t succeed. Eveantually he gives in and actually gets really invested in the strike himself in the end.
Now your prolly thinking: why? Well. This presentation is far from over. (That was a lie. Its almost done dont worry)
Lyrics are honestly great! I have zero complaints about that. If anything, i have complements! Sure, its not as good as Mirandas works but, lets be honest: what is? I think the lyrics were still more than A+! The story is simply great. i personally think its harder to make something that already exists or happened into a storry. It requires much more creativity despite already having a ‘template’ you have to make the whole thing fit and make sense with your own thing and still be accurate and theres a lot about this actually. Newsies did great with that! It’s composed geniusly too. Menken/Ortega outdid himself by far with it. The choreo? Bombastic! Don’t even get me started. Prolly the best I’ve even seen! And I‘m not just saying that. I actually don’t think i’ve ever seen anything choreographed this well before. They have dance breaks in songs, DESPITE DANCING THE WHOLE TIME anyways
Tunes? Through the roof top. (Haha get it— cuz of santa fe— laugh>:()
The mood was great but it had a balance! It was introduced with a good mood, making u invested but still,,, deep and sad.
You just need one picture -and this is gonna sound really bad for my case but- this[bild zeigen] is all you need to know about the show
While the costumes aren’t too original they’re definitely iconic and not too bad.
Story telling is fantastic! There are some talking to yourself/the audience and telling the story! Some telling it WITHIN the plot (which they did a gooood job making it seem natural and not forced info) and some middle grounds. I really liked it. They also blurred the lines there perfectly.
Stages! I love using newsies as an example for a good stage because they have BOTH kinds of a good stage! (sorta) its one element that is rearanged to make a whole different setting. They only needed some little elements that weren’t always the same. Add a few tables and chairs? Diner. Ad fancier chairs? Pulitzers office. Typewriter? Boom! Editors office. I also think that the metall stuff did a really good job reminding u where and when exactly this is taking place and that that combination of time and place: lower manhattan in 1899 wasnt the best mix of time and place to live in so that sorta counts for the first type.
We dont even need to talk about the “manipulation” aspect bc i wouldnt even know where to start. Im not even sure it was all on purpose. What character has what choreo, the double meaning of some things, the reprises, the rhymes and so much more
They have medda and jeremy jordan as jack kelly so they have not one but TWO of those perfect singers!
And Ive honestly never seen a bad performance of newsies . So yes. Chritically, Newsies is the best musical
Anyway my favourite is and always will be
Starlight express
Despite not being on place one in even ine of these

Satisfied (in your wildest dreams)
Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader
Summary:
Reopening night of Hamilton on Broadway: exciting. Finally making it to the Room Where It Happens: unbelievable. Inexplicable sexual tension with the hot guy sitting next to you, who also happens to be the gorgeous multi-hyphenate mastermind behind the show? Priceless.
3436 words / Mature (gotta love a bit of sneaky theatre smut, hehe.)
[Also posted on AO3 & Wattpad, like, months ago lol]
Preface:
Hi! So, this thing is kind of set in the real sort-of-present world, but with a few… let’s call them creative liberties. There are two things you need to know:
One - for the fic to work, masks aren’t a thing in this alternate-ish world, but please continue to WEAR A MASK in real life!
Two - there is intentionally no mention of his marriage, family etc, all you need to know is that he’s alone in the story, so infer the rest as you like.
Now that’s out of the way, just roll with it, it’s a fun ride… We here for the feels and pray he never sees this. Fair warning, this is an early attempt at smut cuz I thought I could write him out of my head... Wishful thinking, huh. :P
The lights are blinding, the streets are loud, the buildings tower high above you, and you wind your way through crowds upon crowds of so many people. As heartening as it is to see the city coming back to life after the darkness of the past year, you have no time to revel in the wonders of Times Square as you take that last turn, walking as fast as your legs will let you. After what feels like an age, you arrive outside the Richard Rodgers Theatre and scurry in, ticket in hand, grateful you aren’t late.
Why the rush?
Well, it was your first visit back to the theatre in almost eighteen months, owing to the dreadful pandemic that had changed so much and hurt so many. But you can only be grateful at how lucky you are to have come out of it alive, and to celebrate, you had decided to treat yourself and splash out on a premium orchestra seat for the reopening of Hamilton, a far step up from your usual restricted view bargains. You’ve been wanting to get back to seeing live shows since all the cancellations of last year, and you are excited to finally be back in an audience again. Work had run late and you feared you wouldn’t make it on time, but now you’re here, you just can’t wait.
For the occasion, you made an effort to look nice for the first time in a while. You’re wearing a pretty dress, with your hair up, and light makeup - quite a clean up from the bare-faced hoodie-and-leggings mess you’ve been for the past year and a half.
Slightly overwhelmed by the pre-show chaos and excitement, you take it all in and can only be grateful for the feeling. Grabbing a drink along the way, you make it to your seat with just a few minutes to spare. You notice the seat next to you is conveniently still empty; more space for all the feels.
The lights start to dim, and you’re surprised when it’s not quite the start you have come to know and love. You wonder what’s happening - after all, you only found out about the last-minute Ham4Ham show just before you boarded the subway but by the time you made it to the theatre, it was all over, save for an excitable crowd still recovering outside. But what you didn’t know, or expect, was that you’d see a certain genius himself grace the stage - even so, you figured he’d probably just make an appearance and then leave.
You smile as you watch Lin stroll into the spotlight, looking his usual stunning self - that smile that could light up the entire city, his signature goatee, a fancy blazer, shirt and jeans, and an extra skip in his step. On anyone else, the whole combination would make very little sense, but on him it’s oddly endearing and just somehow works. You might even go as far as to call him sexy. Which he is, in a way that you can’t completely understand - but you’d be lying if you said you weren’t inexplicably attracted to him.
You need to chill.
You may have spent a potentially weird amount of time googling him since you saw Hamilton on Disney Plus during lockdown, but that did not give you the right to sit here and fantasize. A creep, you are not.
The audience erupts into cheers and applause, as he gives a sweet, hopeful speech, welcoming everyone back. From your insanely well-placed seat, you can actually catch the glint in his eyes, and combined with the excitement in his voice as he speaks, it almost brings a tear to your eye too. He thanks you all and runs off stage, ducking under the rope, much to the amusement of everyone watching.
The music starts, the show begins and you can’t quite believe you’re really, finally in the room where it happens. You watch the entire opening song in absolute awe that this thing is somehow almost even more amazing live. Nothing can replicate that experience…
Your fascination is placed on pause when a figure sneaks through the darkness and slips into the empty seat on your left. Sipping your drink as something of an excuse, your curiosity gets the better of you, and you glance over at your seat neighbour, ready to shoot a death glare his way for distracting you from the show.
He looks back at you, mouthing ‘Sorry!’ - but you are far from angry when you recognize him.
Your eyes widen in shock and Lin smiles back at you, clearly noticing. Of course he knows you know, and of course he’s unfazed by it.
~
You’re struggling to focus with Lin sitting next to you. No offence to the masterpiece on stage, obviously - it is undoubtedly the greatest thing ever made, but you have lost the ability to remain calm. You make a mental note to rebook a cheap ticket at some point in the future and actually see the show. He’s painfully distracting, you spend a considerable amount of time sneaking glances at him… Not that you regret it, of course.
What you don’t know, though, is that he is sneaking glances at you too. He has done this show enough times to miss absolutely nothing, and just as well he’s making the most of it, being alone.
On more than one occasion, you find yourself absentmindedly biting your lip, thinking about him next to you. It’s impossible not to, and you’re glad you don’t need to be six feet away. You’re so close, you can smell his cologne, and you stop to take another sip of your drink as you try to focus on the show again. One drink can hardly do any harm, but it has you buzzing a little and you need to pace yourself.
As you place your glass down on the carpet, your arm unintentionally brushes his on the armrest between you. You’re wearing a short-sleeved dress; Lin is no longer wearing his blazer and he has the sleeves of his shirt rolled up to his elbows. You aren’t entirely sure if you imagined it, but your bare skin touching his almost zaps an electric current through you. It seems like he has clearly felt something too, as he glances over at you at exactly the same time. You look away, feeling a telltale blush heat up your cheeks, and you count your lucky stars that it’s mostly dark.
A couple of songs later, you’re both tapping your feet to Satisfied and you can’t be sure whose accident it is when your left knee bumps his right leg. This time, you act nonchalant and try not to react, but you can feel his eyes on you. The next time that happens, you’re pretty sure he’s doing it on purpose… And he catches you staring again. You’re being far too obvious.
You try to be careful after that, being a lot more conscious of the space you occupy and where your gaze wanders to. Granted, you enjoy the attention, but you remind yourself that he’s him and you’re, well… just you. Your strategy seems to work and you’re able to concentrate on the show for a while after, until Lin catches you mouthing along to the lyrics of Wait For It, and gives you a little nudge.
You stop and look over at him with a sheepish smile. “Sorry,” you mouth instead.
He shakes his head, also smiling, and whispers, “Favorite song?”
“Marginally. Don’t judge.”
“Mine too. No judgement.”
You hardly want to be one of those girls that throws themselves at him, but you’d swear, if you heard his voice whisper in your ear again, you would happily bear the consequences of jumping him right there in that seat.
Instantly regretting the thought, when you struggle to force that image out of your head. Guilt creeps in and you curse your own active imagination for driving you to this point of delusion. You need a reality check now. He’s being sweet, but that hardly means anything - he’s probably nice to everyone. Not only that, you’re far younger than him; why would he even take notice of you like that?
And yet…
The next time your arm brushes against his, neither of you jolt back like you did before. It’s still dark. He looks over at you just as you do the same; despite the relative darkness, your eyes meet and you try to read him. There’s something here, this tension… Surely this isn’t just him being polite. At this point, what do you really have to lose, making the first move? You lean towards him, your faces barely an inch from each other. You glance down at his lips, then back up into his dark eyes, as he almost mirrors you. So maybe you were wrong about him not noticing you, but you’ll happily admit that.
“Wait…” he whispers, “Not here.”
He’s right. It’s too public, not to mention out of order, and someone is bound to notice, if they haven’t already.
As if on cue, the moment is interrupted by the show’s intermission. You both stop to applaud, and you can’t speak for him, but your mind is stuck on other matters entirely. Once the lights come on, you decide to seize the day and break your silence.
“Hey, you can’t leave me hanging like that,” you say playfully, trying to hide that you’re mildly put out by his potential rejection.
“Lucky for us, I know this place like the back of my hand…” Lin says, rising from his seat. You look up at him, equal measures of elated and nervous, your heart racing so fast you hope he can’t hear it.
This cannot be happening right now.
“Let’s go.” You smirk, and he laughs lightly. He offers you a hand and you take it. He’s so warm, it makes you wonder if the man actually radiates magic. He leads you through one narrow hallway after another and by the time you come to a halt in front of a heavy curtain, you haven’t the slightest idea where you are - which would be terrifying if you didn’t have such a massive crush on him. This probably isn’t your wisest decision, but it’s all about perspective, right?
“It’s not the classiest place, but -”
“I don’t know about you, but I’m way past class right now,” you giggle. He might have started this, but you aren’t about to pass it up. You step up onto your tiptoes and grab the collars of his shirt as you press your lips to his. It barely takes him a split second to respond - without separating from you, he wraps his arms around you and pulls you behind the curtain, pushing you up against the wall in near darkness, just light enough that you can see each other.
What the actual fuck.
In the back of your mind, you half expect your alarm clock to ring any second now and drag you out of the dream, picturing that look in his eyes all day and being unable to do anything about it. On the contrary, it only gets better… Lin is still kissing you, your hands all over each other, every touch leaving a spark in its wake. He pulls on the hair tie holding your hair up, and you sigh when he tangles his fingers in your hair as it comes loose. You blindly attempt to undo the buttons on his shirt, and he gasps slightly as your nails gently scrape his bare chest.
You wouldn’t dare confess to him, but you’ve had this dream before. On some lonely night, when fantasies were the only way to escape the fear that was real life, somewhere between uncertainty and darkness, where he was the light - but he doesn’t even know it.
So, maybe that’s why you don’t hesitate as much as you would in a normal circumstance, and maybe that’s why you pull away from his lips to push him back against the wall instead and trail your kisses down his neck, gently biting down on his skin, knowing full well what it’ll look like after. He still has one hand tangled in your hair, the other gripping your waist, and he tugs on your hair and lets out a low moan as you run your fingers down his body and undo his belt. You can tell he’s straining against his jeans and the look on his face is nothing short of priceless. An unsought blush creeps up your cheeks as you realize this is what you’re doing to him.
Call it payback for all those times he wandered into your dreams and disappeared before you could have what you needed. Unfair, considering that version of him only really existed in your imagination, but that level of longing could really cloud a person’s sense of right and wrong. The whole fucking thing is wrong, but that is far from how right it feels. He was only ever a not-so-innocent fantasy, but you aren’t about to let him slip away now.
You can hardly contain your shock when he grabs your hands and forces them behind your back, his arms tight around your waist, pinning you back against the wall again. You look up into his eyes, questioning, and he’s looking back at you as if he can see into your soul.
“I need you,” he murmurs, “Now.”
You’re glad for your convenient choice of outfit as he pushes your dress up to your waist and yanks your panties down. One hand still locking yours behind your back, he uses the other to pull his own pants down and your heart races as he grabs your thighs, hooking your legs around his waist and thrusting into you. It’s rough and hot and quick and plain sinful, his hand covers your mouth as you scream his name, and you bite down on his finger. He lets your hands go; with one, you grip his shoulder, the other trying to tug on his short hair.
“Fuck…”
“You?” you tease, wanting to laugh, but just then, he hits that spot within you again and the sound that escapes your lips instead is something between a sigh and a giggle. Just then, he stops. You open your eyes in some sort of frustration, to find his shining brown eyes looking into yours, almost teasing, challenging you. “Lin… please?” you manage to say, almost in a whimper, meeting his gaze.
“That’s it, baby…” he whispers, as he tips you over the edge with a final thrust, with him following shortly after. He captures your lips in a fervent kiss, and it’s enough to leave you melting in his arms, coming undone yet again.
For a few seconds, all you can hear is your heavy breathing in time with his, as the two of you come down from the high. He is the first to move again after he pulls back from you and sets you down, but you lean your weight against him whilst he tries to pull his pants back on. You can’t help it, he’s got you weak in the knees, you don’t trust your legs to keep you up on your feet and if you’re honest, you just don’t want to keep your hands off him. Much like his voice, he’s also an addiction.
“Hey, are you okay?” he asks. You wouldn’t know any better, but he almost sounds concerned.
“Ahh… yeah, just a little unsteady.” You blush as he holds you steady, quickly helping you clean up and fix your clothes into something that resembles decency. For a moment, you can’t help but wonder how many times he’s done this before and it sparks a little fire of jealousy that makes you want to never let go.
“I’m sorry, beautiful. Come here?” He kisses you again, much more gently this time, and you smile to yourself when he pulls away and you see the smudges of your lipstick on his lips, his cheeks and the marks you’ve left on his neck. With shaky hands, you button up his shirt, resisting the urge to laugh at the sight. He smiles back at you, leaning against the wall. “How bad is it?”
“Honestly?”
“Yeah?”
“You look like a hot mess,” you bite your lip, “Sorry about that.”
Lin shakes his head. “Don’t be, you’re perfect. And I always wondered what this corner could be used for, but never actually… you know.” He tries to use his shirt sleeve to rub the rouge off his face, but it only makes matters worse.
You can’t help but laugh a little. “Ha. What about me?” You reach up and swipe your thumb over a particularly bright smudge on his cheek; he places his hand over yours as he turns his head and kisses your palm.
“To tell the truth, you look like you’ve just unlocked the secrets of the universe, and had a damn good time doing it. You have nothing to worry about.” He reassures you as he tucks a lock of your hair behind your ear, twirling the strands around his finger.
“Shit.” You laugh loudly, he joins you and his laughter fills your heart with a warmth far beyond the fire he has left in you. Somewhere between all of this, you had the weird notion that you could literally fuck him out of your system, but now you’re not so sure. It’ll be next to impossible to extinguish that spark.
An announcement sounds over the speakers, signalling five minutes to the end of the intermission.
“Did you want to head back?” he asks, then shakes his head, “Of course. I forget everyone else doesn’t have the whole show permanently imprinted on their brain.”
“Well, yeah… I thought your show was the most fucking awesome thing, until I actually met you.”
“Well, I guess it takes one to make one?” he suggests. You roll your eyes and grab him by the hand, heading back out - as much as you wouldn’t mind staying in that corner with him all night.
~
You know exactly how the show ends, but that doesn’t stop you sobbing on Lin’s shoulder towards the end of the second act. It still tugs on your heartstrings as tightly as ever, even if you are still trying to regain your composure after your little encounter with him.
Lin has his arm around you, now least bothered about what it might look like to anyone else, and he hands you a soft tissue for your tears. Reasonable, you’re probably staining his shirt at this point. His comforting gesture only makes you shed more tears, and you’re up on your feet applauding as soon as the show is over.
“That was amazing!” you say to him.
“Thank you,” he smiles, “But hey, I’m sorry for distracting you.”
You shake your head. “Yeah, I’ll have to come back at some point. But I can’t be mad… I mean, it’s you.”
“Figured. All you have to do is ask!” He’s playing it cool, but you catch him blushing a little as he continues, “Could I get your number? This cannot be a one-time thing. Actually, do you want to stick around for a while? We can go out after this, if you want to.”
Well. That sends your heart into a backflip and you’re flattered that he wants to see you again; you aren’t about to say no to that.
“I’d love that, Lin.”
You exchange phone numbers and a promise to catch up as soon as he’s done doing the million things he has to do before you can leave. You are aware of people nearby staring at him, but it doesn’t bother him. He presses a quick kiss to your forehead, leaving you in a sort of daze as he is whisked away by a couple of theatre staff who lead him towards the same door you snuck through earlier. He waves at you as he goes, and you notice he still has your hair tie on his wrist. Still blushing, you wave back, and so do a group of screaming teens a few rows behind you. Let them have their moment, you smile to yourself; they have no idea where you’ve just been. Rather, the places he’s taken you to…
And you can’t wait to go back.
Whilst you’re waiting, you type out a short text message to him, and hit send before you can overthink anything, ‘Satisfied?’
Not too long after, your phone lights up with his reply: ‘Never. Let’s go? ;)’

I just finished Encanto and I really liked it! There were a bunch of bops too especially the pressure 😍and Bruno songs 🤣. But that one scene by the river 😭 the Spanish version made it hit differently. People are speculating that there will be a series like how they did Tangled but I would prefer a sequel and maybe a series after that so that the other side of the family could be explored more first. I want to see more of Camilo 🥰 especially. Who was your favorite character?
Yassss Encanto slaps!!! I am so happy a lot of people are enjoying it, specially because I didn’t think it would become that popular but I love to be proven wrong ^^
Surface Preassure and We Don’t Talk About Bruno are actually my favorite songs too asksjwj although I do enjoy all of them but those two just hit differently. Also waiting on a miracle is up there but all of them are fantasticcc, Lin Manuel Miranda proving once again to be a composing genius
I’ve watched the movie in both spanish and English now and I do gotta day Dos oruguitas with the flashback has made me cry every single time. It’s such a chilling scene too, idk man like it really hits home knowing that is the context of my home and how much conflicto armado has been a tragedy on Colombia. Disney imo did a fantastic job retelling a story that was vague enough for it not to be too overwhelming for a kids film while also telling everything if you know the story behind desplazamiento here and in a lot of other latam countries. Just thinking of the scene and how Abuela breaks down with her three kids breaks my heart every time and they really did a very good job in storytelling
ASKDSJJW sorry for the tangent I just get emotions about it ,,,,,,, and I didn’t know they were thinking of making it a series actually! I would too prefer a sequel but I think honestly the story was told in such a satisfying way I wouldn’t mind if it stayed stand alone (although my other musical loving Colombian ass wants more content so asksjwj duality)
I agree tho!!! I’d love a Camilo and Dolores song, they were some of my favs and I adoreed their side of the family askdjwj Pepa is iconic too my beloved me too girlie I have anxiety too. I’d say top three favs overall were probs Mirabel, Bruno and Antonio/Pepa, although I did love Camilo too and character design wise I though Dolores was gorgeouss

Kevin Day and his Oblivious Literature Lover, pt.IV
In times of college finals, aftg is my coping mechanism of predilection. hope it helps some :)
>> Table of Contents,TW and other parts here!
i’ll let you guess what Kevin and Juliet chose for their project
oh, yes
the letters of Hamilton, Eliza and John + Hamilton: The Musical
i will fight you on this
at first, when Juliet suggests it, Kevin stares at her so hard bc really?? a musical??
but then she lends him the 50$ leatherbound official book of the musical (you know the navy blue and beige one? you know what i’m talking about, right?) and reads it all in one evening and wow
lin-manuel miranda? genius. ron chernow? Genius. alexander hamilton? Dumb Genius.
oh yeah and Juliet? Absolutely mind-blowing genius.
as Andrew & Neil grow closer and the match agaisnt the Ravens rounds the corner, Kevin finds himself looking more and more forward to the time spent at the library with Juliet
she is just so focused on their project and so oblivious as who he really is and doesn’t really care if sometimes he is more anxious, if freaks over everything to be perfect, if he babbles on&on&on&on about any bit of history he discovered
she’s just there, smirking, stiffling her laughs and asking for more
they’ve exhanged phone numbers and she installed snapchat on his, and although he never sends her anything, she always has a short video and a funny caption that pop up from time to time; they’re that little reminder that the world goes on outside of exy and that he exists outside of exy
she introduces him to funny videos and he didn’t know absolute dumb shit could make him snort??
his favorite is the peanut butter baby
at first the Foxes give him this judgemental look when he ugly-snorts in the locker room or at Eden’s, but eventually they just get that glint in their eyes as if they were in on the jokes
sometimes, Juliet’s so focused on writing down bullet points in her notebook, peeling the skin off her lips, so unaware of Kevin’s personal hell of a life, that he just wants to spill out everything
although he’s not sure if it’s because he wants her to know him and stay, or because he wants her to reject him and therefore spare himself the trouble of getting attached...
she takes the decision for him
on a Thursday afternoon, on their planned study session, she doesn’t show up
she doesn’t answer her phone either
he even tries out a completely blacked out snap with “r u alive?” in caption
no answer
he gives her space, sending her occasional cat videos he thoroughly researches
if she watches them, she doesn’t say anything
on Monday afternoon, she doesn’t come to class
that’s when the panic Kevin’s been reigning in just... bursts
what if it’s Riko?
what if it’s the Master?
what if it’s Ichirou?
what if, somehow, it’s the Butcher’s people?
that afternoon’s practice is hell for the Foxes, Kevin is ruthless and an asshole and very agressive
Dan waits for him outside the boys’ locker room as all the other Foxes leave (not even Andrew and Neil want to wait for him)
“Spit out your goddamn problem before I tell Coach to bench you next game”
oh, how Kevin wants to cuss her out
and then he looks  at her face, ready to vomit words, when he sees her worrying her lips
just like Juliet
it shouldn’t be enough to make him tear up, but it does
he still manages to keep as much of the truth to himself as he possibly can
“My EAL partner isn’t responding to my messages or my calls and she didn’t even come to class today and it stresses me the fuck out and what if it’s like with Neil, Dan?” he says in one breath, trying to tear out the net of his racket
Dan recomposes her face and gets that very serious look, the one she usually gets when someone touches her family
“It’s not, Kevin. That’s over. We got Neil back, we got you back, you got Jean back. The team didn’t even know who that person was. The most info we’ve gathered is what you just told me now. Yeah there are some bets but it’s mostly for funsies, nothing even remotely serious. You wanna look for her?” she soothes him.
“I don’t even know...”
“She lives on campus?” she asks.
“I don’t- I don’t know, Dan. I spent months with her and I can’t even vaguely say where she lives! How fucked up is that?” Kevin yells.
“It’s not even remotely fucked up, Kevin. You should know that. Does she have instagram? twitter? Or like, facebook?” she questions some more.
“God, I don’t know. She only sends me stupid fucking videos and I never even respond like the goddamn asshole I am...”
“Shut up. We’re all assholes at the end of the road, ‘kay? You ain’t better or worse than others. Now she sends them to you in text or somewhere else?”
“Sometimes texts... Sometimes the yellow app, the chat one. Why.”
“Oh great, that’s great. We can locate her, with snapchat, if she forgot to turn off the sharing. And if you’re comfortable with that, too. I know you’re not a creep like that. You’re creepy sometimes, don’t get me wrong. But, not a creep.”
“Gee, thanks, Dan.”
“Hey, shush. You down or what?” she says, arching an eyebrow.
“Okay,” he answers, unable to make the fear go away without knowing for sure.
And so it turns out Juliet’s location is, in fact, knowable. Dan grabs one of Kevin’s shoulders as he leaves the court, squeezing her affection into her grip; he nods emotionally in her direction, as far as emotions can translate unto his face.
he doesn’t even know what he’ll do once he finds her, his brain is solely focused on the animated map that brings him closer and closer to Juliet
the more he progresses, the more he realizes he is far from Fox Tower, on a campus area he has never even seen
he stops before a decrepit building, old and moldy-looking
Jackie Kennedy Hall
student dorms? this shabby? she can’t possibly live-
except that she can, because there isn’t another building close and the map has brought him here, and he doesn’t really know her...
so Kevin straightens his shoulders, inhales deeply, and goes inside
he could go on and on and on about everything that is just wrong with the place, from the smell to the decoration, but he makes a beeline for the front desk (he’s lucky there’s even one)
he asks for a way to contact someone, flashes his press smile at the women behind the desk, gives up his ID in exchange for the room number
Juliet Grier, 418
stairs, stairs, stairs, stairs
heavy door, right, 412, 414, 416...
418
what, now?
Kevin hesitantly knocks once, twice
no answer
he knocks again and decides to speak up, in case she didn’t hear
“Juliet? It’s Kevin. Day. From EAL? Can I speak with you?”
still nothing
maybe she isn’t home... no, the map says she’s here. maybe she’s sleeping...
he decides to try one last time
“We really should finish that project, you know? I think we could both use the free time...” he says without his heart into it.
without surprise, no response still
he decides to take a loose paper from his sachel and writes down some words
Greetings Hi,
My friend Dan helped me look for you, but you don’t have to worry about your privacy; it’s because of the yellow app. You should turn that off if you don’t want other people to be nosy.
You weren’t in class today. I’ll share my notes if you want them. But, you should come to class, it’s better. For learning.
I’ll wait a few in case you’re asleep.
Text me or call me or whatever when you’re ready.
- Kevin D. (your partner from EAL)
quick, efficient, to the point
Kevin slips the paper under the door, and waits
he refreshes the map too many times, to see if her location changed or if somehow there was a glitch
it stays put
he ends up sitting on the hallway floor, his back sliding down the wall
he catches up on a book for another class, checks exy stats and watches many, many videos of Jeremy Knox on the court and in interview
some students pass him with a nasty look, eyeing the lack of earphones on his phone
some other students walk by him and will themselves to keep going, because holy shit it’s Kevin Day in Jackie Hall
it’s at least an hour and a half before the doorknob slowly and quietly starts to click
Kevin was absorbed deep into whatever move Knox was making before scoring
the 418 door opens
Kevin gets up in one move, all things Jeremy Knox and exy forgotten
she’s loosely holding Kevin’s paper in one hand, the other clutching a large scarf that covers up the majority of her body
from what he can see, though, she’s wearing sweats from head to toe; her hair’s tied on the top of her head, but most of the curls escaped and it looks unwashed and her curls, dry
her skin’s turned pale, dark circles under her eyes, a haggard look in them, her cheeks stained with dry tears
Juliet looks terrible
“Hi...” Kevin attempts
she finally looks up from the paper and gives him a bored look that could rival Andrew’s
with a rough voice strained from cries and many days without speaking, she asks, “My EAL partner?”
“Well, yes. In case.”
“In case of what.”
“I-”
“I know who you are, Kevin.”
and isn’t that both his most ardent wish and his worse fear?
with that, she turns around and goes back to her dark room, leaving the door open behind her
is that... an invitation?
Kevin’s never been to another person’s place, apart from the Columbia house, Abby’s and Wymack’s
he reminds himself why he came in the first place and decides it would be a waste to leave now, right?
the small studio is a mess, much like its occupant
there are clothes everywhere, on the floor, on a chair, on the bed, on the desk
all the curtains are drawn, no light is on, the only source coming from Juliet’s laptop somewhere amongst her bedsheets
it’s like she made herself a nest and hasn’t moved from there for a long time
maybe even since last Monday, the last time he saw her
Kevin doesn’t understand the scene he has before his eyes
he’s never seen such apathy in someone that is not Andrew
and at this point, apathy is pretty much Andrew’s default state of being
not Juliet’s
Juliet is a soft glow, toothy grins, wild curls, countless jumpers, dumb jokes and references, color-coded notes, an organized mind, unwavering focus and determination, flowing words and warm, kind eyes...
so what is this?
then Kevin realizes he spoke aloud
and Juliet can only chuckle sadly, almost mockingly
“This? This is why I don’t have friends. This is why I don’t mix with people. This is why I’ll never amount to anything in life. This is my dirty laundry, both metaphorically and literally. This is it. That’s... That’s it. This is what I get,” she answers flatly
Kevin’s mind is spinning
he doesn’t understand
he needs to understand, though
“Explain it to me,” he says
Juliet looks at him like a brick just hit him on the head and made him speak Swedish
“Why.”
“Because, surely there’s a way to work with it.”
she laughs
it doesn’t reach her eyes, nor her lips or her cheeks
it’s just a desperate sound
it makes him think of Andrew again
and that gives him an idea, a gut feeling, if you will
“Can I try something out?” he asks
“Kevin... I can’t- I’m tired... It’s not a good idea... I’m tired, Kevin,” Juliet responds, pain noticeable in her voice and her movements slow
“I know, I- I know. Someone I know... He plays this game. It’s really not a game, it’s more like a communication thing. He calls it “A Truth for a Truth”.  In exchange for something I tell you, you tell me something. And in exchange for something you tell me, I’ll tell you something else. It’s made me... work through some things... before,” Kevin explains calmly
Juliet keeps on observing him from her bed, silent
“Look, can I just stay here to do homework? I have nowhere to go right now,” Kevin asks, almost blurting out “Please” before Andrew’s ghost caught it in his throat
she lies back down, burries herself in her covers, a silent “yes”
Kevin ends up falling asleep sitting on the floor, books open, head resting at the end of Juliet’s bed
he wakes up around 2 AM
he’s got multiple texts from Aaron and Nicky, one from Andrew, and one from Dan
“told everybody you spent the night at Coach’s. take care.”
he silently vows to thank her later
now he either really goes to Wymack’s to finish his night there, or... he stays exactly where he is
Juliet is still sleeping soundly
in a haze, he palms for a pillow or cushion, pulls his hoodie on and lies back down on the carpeted floor
he’s only awaken in the late morning when he brutally gets stepped on
“What the shit?? Kevin! How...???” Juliet yells
“Um, ow? No, no, don’t apologize so quickly. You just, you know, crushed my lungs and a couple of ribs, no worries, Jules!” Kevin groans
“Ju- you know what? I’m not sorry. Right now I gotta pee, so you better have a damn good explanation when I get back,” she replies and leaves her room to go to the bathroom at the end of the hall
instead of dread, Kevin feels calm about the upcoming conversation
he doesn’t prepare lies, doesn’t run away, doesn’t resort to assholery
he just stays put where he is on the floor, snuggles deeper into his hoodie, and waits for relief, for the truth
he waits for Juliet

Music
Pairing: Lin-Manuel Miranda x reader
Prompt(s): Whatever song your soulmate is listening to is stuck in your head. (Changed it a bit)
Warnings: None?
Word count: 1349
A/N: Requests are open! Not my best work, but it’s a good place to start, hope you all enjoy!
Music was everywhere in your life. Songs that you have never heard would swirl in your mind as your soulmate would sing; his voice angelic. Though, you have never met him you could tell how clever he was. Whatever songs he was singing, you have never heard before despite all of your research. At age 18 was when you realized that he was going places.
‘My name’s Usnavi and you’ve probably never heard my name..’ you hummed along to his voice as you heard him sing the familiar tune. Though, he usually stopped around that point, almost as if he couldn’t get the lyrics out. So, you sung back.
“If you heard of my fame it’s been greatly exaggerated.” And that’s when you two started bonding over music. He would sing a line then stop- almost as if he wanted you to continue it.
At age 19 he started singing that tune- along with others- almost everyday. You couldn’t say you were getting tired of hearing it though. His voice was amazing to hear and cheered up your day easily. You learned from the songs that it was about a character named Usnavi in a place called Washington Heights in NYC. From there, your bond wouldn’t let you learn any more as fate didn’t want you to meet. At least, not yet.
But, it seemed fate never wanted to meet. At age 26, you began to lose hope as all of your friends had their soulmates and were living happily. Meanwhile, you were doomed to listen to the same songs, but have no soulmate. At 27, you began to hear a new tune.
‘What’s your name man? Alexander Hamilton.’ You chuckled the first time you heard it, but over time it got better and better. The tunes got catchier and you began falling for his music all over again. But, at age 34, you heard the tune. Except it wasn’t in your head. It was your friend- showing you a song after talking about it so much- off of broadway about him. The guy you had been hearing those exact lyrics about for the past 7 years.
“Nate, what’s this song called?” You tried to stop your racing heart from bursting out of your chest.
“So you like it?” He teased
“Yes I love it- now what is it called?”
“This one is called ‘You’ll Be Back’ It’s sung by Jonathon Groff and the music is by-” you couldn’t hear the name, “he’s really talented and he wrote the entire musical”
“Can you repeat the name?” You asked.
You saw his lips moving, but you couldn’t hear it. You have heard of things like this before. How you couldn’t hear your soulmate’s name unless you have met them.
“Nate, thank you so much! I would love to continue talking but I just remembered I had this thing to do!” You stuttered and rushed off, but not before you heard him shout to you, “Eager are we? I’ll see you around Y/N! I demand an explanation the next time I see you though!”
You ran to your apartment and time didn’t seem to be on your side. The elevator felt really slow and you got stopped by a neighbor before you could enter your room. But, as soon as you did get inside you quickly ran to your computer and started to research.
You started with googling ‘You’ll be back’ from then you saw the musical was called Hamilton. You chuckled to yourself, considering you have heard that name repeatedly in the past years. You then googled ‘Hamilton the Musical’ There were images and some info but a lot of it was blurry. In quite a few photos there was a man, but he was always blurred out. You guessed that was him. Your soulmate. Mr. Alexander Hamilton. Mr. Usnavi. Your genius.
There was only one thing to do. Your mind was set. You went and bought a ticket. It was expensive, and it was in a few weeks. It may have burnt a hole in the wallet, but in your mind it was worth it. Anything was worth it for him. You chuckled to yourself, you didn’t even know him. All you knew about him was that he was really intelligent, talented, and apparently on broadway. But, you were already hooked.
The weeks passed very slowly. Work dragged on. Everything felt overwhelming. The very thought of meeting your soulmate after so long. So many years of losing hope slowly. All your friends had met their lights, and with all of their stories, you were ready for your own story. Your own light.
Finally after so much time… you saw it. You saw him. Your breath was taken away and it felt like a weight was lifted off your chest that you didn’t even know you had. You felt the void slowly start to close up, content at last.
He must’ve noticed you too, because during the song ‘My Shot’ he locked eyes with you and stumbled over his lines. He quickly recovered after improvising some lines. Throughout the rest of the show, both of your eyes met repeatedly and each time a flame would grow in your heart. You could only wonder if he felt the same.
The show passed by in a blur, and as you got up an usher met you. You weren’t that surprised, but you weren’t expecting an usher. “Y/N L/N, correct?”
“Yes, that’s me,”
“The cast would like to meet you backstage so will you please follow me?” he smiled kindly.
After many turns and passing by people with questioning stairs, you finally made it backstage.
“I’ll leave you to it,” the usher said and went back to whatever he needed to do.
Suddenly you saw him again. He was out of costume but he still looked as charming as ever, even in sweatpants and an oversized hoodie. You both froze for a second before a grin broke out on his face. Your heart melted at the sight of his smile, and you knew you could get used to this.
Then, you didn’t know what to do. He was your soulmate, you didn’t even know his name. Were you supposed to kiss him? Run up and give him a hug? Your thoughts were racing. As you focused again, he was in front of you. He grabbed your hand and you felt sparks fly, as cliche as it sounded. But nothing compared to how it felt when he kissed your hand. Now you understood Eliza, helpless was the only way you could describe how you were feeling
“I’m Lin-Manuel Miranda, but you can call me Lin. What is your name, cariña?” He said. His voice sent chills down your spine.
“Oh- um- I’m Y/N, you did so great and I’m so happy to meet you after so long and I’m rambling now I’m so sorry-”
He cut you off after grabbing your cheeks with his hands and his eyes met yours again. You saw his soul through his eyes and you could tell he could see yours too. You felt whole. Time felt it stopped and it was just the two of you.
“Y/N,” he tried out the name on his tongue and your heart skipped a beat, “a beautiful name for a gorgeous woman.”
“I mean, you aren’t too shabby yourself,” you retort.
He laughed and at that moment you promised yourself you would never leave his side. How you got blessed with him, you would never know.
“I know I just met you but I feel we have known each other forever, so can I kiss you?” His eyes looked at your lips then back at your eyes. You gave a small nod and felt his lips meet yours and your eyes flickered closed. His hands met the back of your waist and yours intertwined between his hair.
After 16 years, you found your home. Between his arms. And though it took a while, it was worth the wait and you have never felt happier or more complete.

What’s Your Plan, Genius? - Harry Holland
Pairing: Harry x Artist!Reader
Requested? Yes! By @unsaidholland <3
Hamilrequest #21
“What comes next? You’ve been freed.”
They’re older in this one. You’ll see. It fits the one shot I swear.
Tumblr media
Harry and Jasmine have been together since they were 13 years old. Jasmine was Harry’s first girlfriend and she was his only girlfriend. They dated for about 10 years and the ‘magic’ faded as each year passed by.
One faithful day, Jasmine thought it was best to call it quits. Harry wasn’t surprised, but he was disappointed that they didn’t even try to fix or save their relationship. He really thought that they were each other’s endgame.
But he understood her reasons and he let her leave without hesitation. They didn’t have bad blood with each other, though. Jasmine even told him to not be a stranger if they ever bump into each other.
Harry didn’t cry when they broke up. He cried a long time ago when the ‘magic’ first started to fade. He was just really sad and he felt empty. After all, he’s been with Jasmine for a long time that he forgot to function as a single man. The last time he was single was at 12 years old. So, he couldn’t just ‘go back to the way he was before’, because last time he checked, he was still playing outside at 12 years old. Now he’s 23 and it’d be weird for him to play outside like his 12 year old self.
It had been three days since the break up and he never left the house. He was okay enough to leave his room, but not okay enough to leave the house. He’s scared to go outside, because he wouldn’t have Jasmine without him. He felt that if he went outside on his own, it wouldn’t feel right. Jasmine was his sense of familiarity. Now that she’s gone, he didn’t know what to do next. He sometimes stopped himself from calling her to ask how she’s holding up and how she’s able to do things on her own without him. He was happy for her, though.
He just wanted advice, s’all.
The Hamilton soundtrack blasted through Harrison’s speakers in the living room where everyone currently is.
“Do you know how hard it is to lead? You’re on your own. Awesome. Wow. Do you have a clue what happens now?” Tom sang loudly as he played a game on his phone.
“Oceans rise, empires fall! It’s much harder when it’s all your call. All alone, across the sea. When your people say they hate you, don’t come crawling back to me.” Harrison continued as he scrolled through Instagram.
“Da da da dat da dat da da da da ya da da da dat dat da ya daaaaaa!” Tom and Harrison sang together. They looked at each other and chuckled, “You’re on your ooooooown.”
“You guys are weird.” Harry said, not looking up from his phone.
“Hamilton is art, Harry.” Harrison said. Tom nodded, “Yeah, Lin-Manuel Miranda is a genius.”
Harry playfully rolled his eyes, “Okay.”
The room fell silent for a while when Harrison broke it, “I’m going to the park to let Monty out for a bit. Who wants to tag along?”
“I will! I’ll take Tessa out.” Tom said and he looked at Harry, “Come with us, Harry.”
“Hard pass.” Harry said sharply.
“You need to go outside, Harry. You can’t stay here forever.” Harrison pointed out. “Besides, you’ll be with us.”
“Fine, but only this one time.” Harry sighed.
-
Upon arriving at the park, the three men walked the dogs. They talked about random things until Tom brought up the break up.
“So what’s your plan, genius?” Tom asked.
“What do you mean?” Harry furrowed his eyebrows.
“You know, when will you start dating again? Will you even start dating again? I mean, I’ve seen Jasmine’s posts on Instagram and she’s out there socializing and shit.” Tom shrugged.
“You follow her on Instagram?! Since when?!” Harry asked in surprise.
“That doesn’t matter, Harry. Just answer me.” Tom said. Harry huffed, “I don’t even know how to go through the day without Jasmine helping me. How will I start dating someone else? I was 12 years old when I was last single.”
“Yikes.” Harrison chuckled.
“I don’t even know what my type is, because I never got to know other girls. Jasmine was my only girl and she was the only girl I’ve been with. I don’t have a wide range to choose from.” Harry said shyly.
“You’re lucky we’re here to help you.” Harrison said as he nodded towards an empty bench for the three of them to sit on as they let Monty and Tessa play with each other.
They sat down comfortably and they looked around. Some were jogging, having a picnic, taking photos for Instagram, but one girl stood out. She was standing up with a palette on her hand and a paintbrush on the other. In front of her was a canvas on an easel. She had paint on her clothes and some on her cheek. She didn’t seem to mind, though.
Harry stared at the artist longer than intended and Tom and Harrison took notice of this. Tom smirked and glanced at the girl before talking to Harry, “Go up to her.”
Harry snapped out of it and shook his head, “No, thank you.”
“You’ll be fine. Just start off as friends.” Harrison said.
“Jasmine and I started off as friends and where did that get us? A failed 10 year relationship.” Harry sighed in defeat. “Maybe love isn’t really for me.”
“Don’t talk like that, Harry. That’s bullshit.” Tom chuckled. “You’re 23. You’re still young to give up on love.”
“Yeah! Besides, Jasmine is different from that girl you were staring at.” Harrison added.
“Fine. I’ll talk to her so you could get off my back.” Harry shook his head and stood up.
“Thank us later when your relationship works out.” Harrison winked.
“She could be your endgame, you know. Just think about that.” Tom smiled positively at his younger brother.
Harry walked up to the girl and stood next to her. The girl felt Harry’s presence, but didn’t say anything.
“It’s beautiful.” Harry commented. “I can’t paint for shit.”
The girl chuckled, “What do you do, then?”
Her voice was different from Jasmine’s, but he didn’t care. He liked it.
“I, uh, I’m into photography. Although, I haven’t been taking photos recently.” Harry stammered.
“Oh, how come?” the girl frowned as she took a step back from her painting to check on it before going back to her previous spot to continue.
“My girlfriend of 10 years just broke up with me three days ago. Since then, I was too upset to do anything. This is my first time outside.” Harry chuckled bitterly at his own explanation.
“Oh, well I’m sorry for what you’re going through.” the girl turned to him and smiled. Harry looked at her and felt his heart beat quickly. If he had his camera with him, he would’ve took her picture already. It would’ve had an aesthetic vibe.
“Thanks.” Harry smiled too. “I’m Harry, by the way.”
“I’m Y/N.” she said before turning back to her painting.
Harry stayed there and talked to her for a while before it was time for him to leave with Tom and Harrison. He learned that she was at the park everyday at the same time and place, so it’d be easy to find her.
He didn’t know what happened, but for some reason, he felt at ease. He felt like his sadness was gone and was now replaced by pure bliss. Harry just met her, but for some reason, something was telling him that he indeed found the one.
All he needed to do was plan for his next move.
* * * *
idk if y’all noticed but if you look at Tom’s first line in this one shot, you’d see that it’s the continuation of the line that I used hihihi

SOME THOUGHTS ON HAMILTON & THE HAMILFILM
I said I wasn’t going to review Hamilton, & this isn’t technically a review, but I couldn’t help myself from discussing its genius or the film. If you wanted me to rate it, consider it to be a perfect rating: 10/10, 100%, A+, you name it. Since I’ll never be able to dissect or talk about Hamilton as in-depth as I’d like to (I could write an entire book on it & wouldn’t know where to stop), consider this a discussion or appreciation post where I express SOME of my thoughts on Hamilton & the Hamilfilm. - To me, Hamilton is a masterpiece and Lin-Manuel Miranda is a genius. He said something along the lines of “people will just think you’re a genius if you write a musical about a genius” but I disagree with him (& he was awarded the MacArthur “Genius Grant” so yeah Lin, you're a genius). Only a genius would look at the founding fathers and say: “yes, this is a hip-hop story”. And he doesn’t just tell Hamilton’s incredible story, he wrote Hamilton in such a way that every line, word, song, & verse is written in a specific way for a specific reason, whether it's as simple as a rhyme, or whether it’s because Lin Manuel Miranda is making a deep-reference we might later discover or whether it’s in the exact style & structure of Alexander Hamilton’s writings. Combine that with his fellow brilliant collaborators - Alex Lacamoire, Thomas Kail, Andy Blankenbuehler - you have a show where every stage direction, dance move, & note serves a greater purpose & they come together perfectly. Hamilton is absolutely filled with an unbelievable amount of hidden treasures (meanings, symbols, references) that I still find myself discovering new ones every time I revisit it, from the role of “the Bullet”, to the spectacular staging of Satisfied, & the mini replay in Hurricane to name a few. Lin turned a seemingly dry, confusing concept into an exciting, moving, unparalleled piece of art that speaks on each theme it touches upon - legacy, reputation, history, work, politics, honor, love, with great depth & meaning. And by doing so, the musical & it’s incredible lyrics could easily resonate with or impact anyone who, like Lin, Hamilton & me, have great value for those things. - One of the first things you might’ve heard or noticed about Hamilton, is that every actor in the show is a person of color (except those in the ensemble/King George). Everyone else: Alexander Hamilton, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, The Schuyler Sisters, they’re all white in real-life, yet they’re played in the show by BIPOC, which in itself is a stroke of genius because Hamilton’s story is extremely relevant today & resonates more with BIPOC experiences than white people, & in every major project he’s worked on, Lin-Manuel helps amplify BIPOC representation; not only does he do that in Hamilton as well, but it’s the perfect way for the story to be delivered when you combine this casting choice with the music Lin wrote for the show that stem from BIPOC origins. Can you imagine how underwhelming it’d be for a white person to sing Lafayette’s raps?  It’s one of the ways “the story of America then is told by America now”, WITHOUT glorifying the founding fathers or excusing the horrible things they did. On the contrary, the show goes out of its way numerous times to emphasize that fact & anyone who took that away from Hamilton didn’t understand or pay attention enough. (Plus LMM condensed an entire man’s life into two & a half hours, give him a break).
As for the Hamilfilm, the only thing I can attempt to “review” is how it was adapted/filmed. And let me just say, director Thomas Kail pulled off an incredible feat with the Hamilfilm. When listening to Hamilton for the first time, I could visualize it all in my head like a movie, & I couldn’t really imagine how it’d be on stage. And when I saw it live, I was blown away & almost couldn’t imagine it as a traditional movie. So when I heard they were filming it this way, I was pleased but worried it wouldn’t be as immersive as the show. But Kail did it. He made Hamilton as immersive as it could possibly be on film, & I’d even go as far as to say it might be even more immersive than seeing it live as you’re provided a better perspective than any seat in the theater. He puts you on stage & in the audience simultaneously, through closeups that put us in the midst of the drama & show us the actors’ talents, wide shots that show us the stage & choreography in all its glory, and tracking shots that put us in the midst of the action, following all the melodious movements of the actors & dancers on stage. I’ve seen similar “professionally filmed” Broadway shows but none of them are as well-done or as well-directed as Hamilton was. (Though I’d trade a few closeups of King George for wide shots…) The editing was never off or felt choppy, which is remarkable considering they filmed it over several days & shows, yet it still feels like one outstanding show with the original cast - all of whom were sensational. I can’t even pin-point a favorite number or performance because I loved them all so much - Satisfied did give me goosebumps like nothing else though.
Still, it doesn't compete with actually being there in the room where it happens. The energy and experience of seeing it live is unbelievable. Does that mean you should wait until you see it live? It’s up to you really, but we never know when theaters will reopen, & the first instinct I had after the Hamilfilm ended is that I couldn’t wait to experience it live again. Rating: ‪10/10‬⭐️

Ajax: From Toxic Masculinity to Defiant Resistance – A Character Study"
I never realized just how much of an impact Ajax left on The Warriors until I really dove into the series.
Studies show police abuse against sex workers is alarmingly common (source).

LOL YOU DONT SOUND LAME HAJA IM TELLING YOU ITS SO SO COOL, i’m loving this lesson btw oh my goodness- HSKAJS YOU THOUGHT I WOULD ALREADY KNOW THAT??? HDYSJHS MY ONLY ENGLISH SPEAKING ASS??? HAHAHAHHAH i find that word (Rindfleischetikettie- i’m not gonna write the whole thing i’m sorry) very interesting... like... wow. did you have to google that or did you just know lmao
OKAH THE WATER THING HDKDJDKS UR GONNA TERRIFY ME HAHAH OH MY LORD- first of all CROATIA 😍😍 but thinking about it like that, I WOULD FREAK OUT TOO HAHSGSG i never go that deep into the water, or if i do i have my dad with me lol and i kind of hold onto him bc ive seen/heard too many things about people being dragged into the sea. but i loveee the water (i wanted to be a mermaid soooo bad ohmigosh)
I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW ONE CANNOT LIKE MUSIC ITS AWFUL !! lmao yeah i haven’t even listened to harry’s his first album, everyone says they love it more. I WAS GONNA SAY IMMA LISTEN TO ONLY ANGEL BUT THE WAY YOU DESCRIBE IT HUHAHAH also i have never listened to anything by mgk (i actually had to google who he was IM SORRY😔) i’m tempted to listen tho lol PLEASE JUSTIN BIEBER- I PROMISE IM NOT LAUGHING AT U IVE JUSY NEVER HAD SOMEONE SAY THAT B4!! like i don’t know many people who’ve liked him bUT NOW IM GONNA LISTEN & the cardboard cutout- okay. 😭😭😭
oh my goodness to see the vamps live 🤧 TO SEE ANYONE LIVE PLEASE JJDGSHAHGD and little mix is so good oh my goodness- i actually haven’t been to that many concerts.. i was at my first one, elsie fest (it’s like a broadway thing really) in uhhh october of 2019, yea i took my mom for her birthday bc she loves darren criss and i’m obsessed with glee lmao OH MY GOODNESS YOUVE BEEN TO SO MANY!!! and those are such great artists 😩😩
LMAO UR FINE, hamilton is a musical that lin manuel miranda wrote and i think generally made? i’m obsessed, but basically it was on broadway and then recorded and put on disney+ ... idk i guess it counts a film bc it’s like a movie really cuz it was recorded but in what 2018 or 2016? i don’t remembers the date that is on disney+ but it’s strange how i got into it, a lot of my friends were obsessed and i was like uhh why? and while researching it and watching it, trying to figure out why people love it... i fell in love with it LMAO but the music is FANTASTIC and lin is incredible😭 but yes yes yes i loveeeee high school musical!! my dad actually took my cousins to see it on ice or something (i absolutely forget lmao) but i don’t know how people don’t know hsm. it upsets me.
OKAY IM DOWN TO THE BOTTOM HAHAHA (it takes me so long to respond, now i’m on lion king 2 WHICH IS SO GOOD PLEASE FHHSSHHSHSH) i could respond in chunks but i kind of enjoy responding like this? it feels a bit like a letter but if this whole thing is overwhelming i’ll cut it up lol
+ yes that was me about your fic and sleep and everything lol but it was so good😭 i don’t understand how you write peter so well like you have this ability to capture his.. everything? i’m crine. all the time. over your fics. & i cannot describe my happiness for youuuu :’) i’m so happy you’re writing again 🥺🥰 the thing about how you only want to write the long peter fic but you don’t know how to continue... i feel that so so so hard, i don’t think i told you but ughh i was so blah bc of that feeling of having pent up inspiration for only one fucking thing and not being able to write it. it’s so frustrating 😭
not to add more to this but i need to vent a bit? the situation is definitely different bc with your major it obviously requires for you to ya know, know english lol, but uhm bc i’m homeschooled ive been cheating on all my work SHSHDHSJ like i google the answers but i’m still learning! it’s just..... i find it so unnecessary, like going for an audition no one is gonna say to me “i want you to chanel the knowledge within yourself of the centripetal force of the circle that is the table on this stage” like tf??? there’s literally no point. i’m gonna be getting into voice lessons again soon and i’m already doing dance, AND i’ll be doing this summer camp program (more hamilton lol) and thinking about school is only making me stress more, like i haven’t been able to rehearse dance at all this week bc of it...... so
hahaha reading your tags, lonely anon would still be accurate HAHAHHAHA // another add: yea i love ur current theme, i’ve gotten used to “seeing you” like this, but anything will look super pretty :)) ALSO HOW IS IT STILL SNOWING THERE, i swear it’s getting warmer and warmer by the day here 😭🤧
these long ass posts, my gosh🥲 lonely lovely anon <3
Omg yes it does feel like a letter sldkdj and then the few days of waiting also make more sense okay i love this ❣️💕❤️💓❤️💞🧡💜💘(wtf)sksjhz
Dear lovely anon,
ALSKSJVKD yes i‘m liking falcon and winter soldier dlkdh i haven‘t watched the second episode yet but i‘ll watch it tomorrow! but i didn‘t watch wandavision........ eidislskks i was going to but idk i wasn‘t that interested in it and watching series is already too much of a commitment (what can i say i‘m a Sagittarius—🤧 (no i’m joking i actually know NOTHING about starsigns)) didjj that i couldn‘t force myself to watch it, ALSO i hate (idk if this is an unpopular opinion) when every episode is like a whole hour. i‘m rewatching an old series today (it‘s german so i won‘t even get into it) and the episodes are 25 mins each and i‘ve already watched 8 episodes today ridlndjdjd,,, and i feel like if the episodes were an hour each i wouldn‘t have gotten past episode 2 today like idk.... even if series had the same length in total, i prefer when the individual episodes are shorter idk why tho tbh (so yeah i already wasn‘t 100% convinced about watching wandavision so i just couldn’t make myself watch a bunch of 1hour episodes— i‘ve heard that it‘s good tho- but i‘m not much of a series person so. Dldkk (have we talked about this already??? sorry i don‘t remember what i said lol and i couldn‘t find my own post anymore so dkdjsh) (WAIT I JUST CHECKED THE WANDAVISION EPIOSRDES ARENT EVEN THAT LONG??? Okay wait i might watch it now - did you like it? let me know if i should watch it— why did i think they were 60minutes???)
okay another confession i‘ve never watched the lion king????? i mean i watched it when i was a child but i was too young to actually pay attention to any kind of plot i just liked the songs lol sldkdj i‘ve been meaning to watch it for years tho 🦁 (idk it just felt appropriate to put a lion emoji lmoaoo)
OH MY GOD THE CHAIS WALKING/CINEMA STORY AHSJSKKS😭😭😭😭 NOOOOO (very fitting that there was so much chaos when you were watching a film that has chaos in the title loool) and the “awkward awkward awkward“ SAME SKSKSLSKDJ, that‘s literally me 24/7 ahajshshhshshsh. Like i was so skdjdjdkdllsldksnsnsnsb while i read what you sent me djslslsjdjdbdn why are old ladies always so grumpy btw 🥲🥲🥲 at least the man was nice tho! and wait did i read that right... you have fries (which, to me, are called chips dusuusldk) at your cinemas?? (Movie theatres sorry sksjsh) we just have popcorn and nachos and drinks i want chips too when i‘m watching a film what😭😭🥺🥺🥺🥺
Also i still haven’t watched it so thanks for not spoiling it!!! (idk when i’ll watch it i’m so bad with films and even worse with series💀💀💀- same with cherry. i literally forgot all about cherry, i was SO hyped when the trailer came out like i’ve never been so excited about a movie... and then it came out... and i still haven‘t watch it like what‘s wrong with me???? Dkdjdjdjdklsl i feel like i‘m not gonna watch it anytime soon tbh, but i wanna watch chaos walking i just have to find the time
Okay and @ your other friend who wasn‘t paying attention like why are you even watching the film then???? but ok (omg this sounds so mean i‘m sure she‘s very nice but in this situation just like❔❔❔)
SIMS ahhh, BUNK BEDS, ahhhh sdljdjdjdkdkdldksj i actually haven‘t played it since the update 🤧🤧 i made both of my sims (enisa (bestselling author already, thank you) and michael (aspiring doctor)) go to university and bro it takes so long 😭😭 and you can‘t do anything else if you want them to do well so literally the last three times i played sims i was just constantly clicking their homework and computerd to write their assignments (i play it in german so idk what its called on the sims) and do their presentations and do them all over again so that they get better or whatever for HOURS, but imma play again soon
also i‘m living my fanfiction life loool, so i made my two sims neighbours (on the same plot tho but i made two small separate houses lol, i still wanted to control both of them at the same time but i made sure they didn‘t interact before i wanted them to skdjdjdk). and first they both experimented and got some experience in the love department you know (all genders, cause i have to live my sexuality even in a pc game slskdjh— wait, i‘ve never lived my sexuality irl like i‘ve done NOTHING nothing with guys nothing with girls (🥲) but maybe that’s why i want to do it even more in the sims) and then they met at uni and realised like hey we‘re neighbours and now they‘re together (but michael accidentally had an alien baby with another woman (who was an alien which i was not aware of) cause i wasn‘t paying attention like i said woohoo not try for baby like michael why is your pull out game so weak tf LSHDDHDJDJSKKDKSKDKS okay but making out and flirting and doing all the fun stuff in the sims turns me on way more than it should PFAHAHHAHSH) so idk why i told you this but I’m creating that neighbour!au in the sims lmaoooo
i did not have to google Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsübertragungsaufgabengesetz (just did it again😌 sisjshhs) but i might have mixed up the words überwachung und übertragung or i might have even forgotten a word skskks but in the end it doesn‘t matter (by linkin park- ok i‘m so sorry it‘s 2 am and i have a headache from having waveformers in my hair all day but i still wanted to reply to this now so sorry if i‘m not making any sense right nowbahahshah)
i wanted to be a mermaid too dldjdksksj like h2O and all those series convinced me i could be one like. i remember i‘d always go in the deep pool and attempt to swim like them in all the series with that wave motion i must have looked so crazy with my goggles as well dkdjsksöksj (i was like twelve but still)
so mgk has two sides one is hip hop/rap which is like ~~~~ idk he has good and bad songs, but his latest album is like punk pop snd I LOVE IT SO SO SO SO SO MUCH, so if you like punk pop I’d recommend his album tickets to my downfall (i don‘t blame yoj if you don‘t like it tho like about a year ago i would have HATED that type of music dkdkdkkd)🥴
Okay talking about music, there‘s this german rapper and he is... not a good person. he‘s literally a criminal and extremely sexist but to me he‘s still hot???????? he‘s even cute at times even tho he has tattoos everywhere and is like 6‘5 and is super aggressive but i see him and i‘m like 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 my heart beats only for you💘💘💘💘and he released a new song today and i watched the video and i‘m wondering wtf is wrong with me 😃 (he did look particularly cute cause he was high so idk he wasn’t really aggressive in this one) 😭 so i thought i‘d share that LMAO IDK
(not saying tattoos aren‘t cute btw i LOVE tattoos imma get some soon, but you know he looks like someone your grandma would be afraid of (and in his case rightfully so💀)
okay wait i‘m getting so tired it‘s 2 am i think i‘ll have to do the rest tomorrow but i wanted to do it now😭🥺🥺 see you tomorrow
it is now 3:42 am and i couldn‘t sleep so here we go again
girl you can laugh at me for liking justin tho skskks i wanna laugh at myself idk, like i said i really really really liked him a few years go, basically my life was at least 50% justin and then he went on a break for a while and released an album last year which i hated 🥴 but this album is wow. (Still weird to me because it‘s literally the definition of pop and i don‘t ever listen to pop?) and it‘s so weird because i used to know so much about justin and had so many friends who loved him as well and now it‘s like I’m listening to someone new? Don‘t get me wrong i never KNEW justin and i never will and i‘m aware of that shahsh but yeah i used to be soooo used to him and it‘s like reconnecting with an old friend and you realise you don‘t know that friend anymore- like you don‘t know them anymore at all. I mean justin is weird nowadays 😂😂😂 so pls laugh at me tbh dskksjsjsh
awww it‘s so wholesome that you gave your mom tickets to the concert 🥺🥺🥺🥺 i gave my mum tickets for pink like 2 years ago and she loved it so much and i was like 🥰🥰🥰 (i went with her) AND OMG GLEE ok so unfortunately i barely remember glee, but i used to watch it too!!!! And it‘s actually on my list of series i wanna watch (again) so youre making me want to watch it even more (but like i said i‘m bad with series so 😩😩😩 who knows when i‘ll rewatch it)
When all this pandemic shit is over (let‘s be hopeful <3333) then you need to go to as many concerts as possible!!!!! i‘ve been to SO MANY and it‘s literally one of the things in my life i‘m the most grateful for, concerts are some of the best experiences i‘ve ever had in my life especially the ones that are in smaller concert halls where you can feeeel the vibe and everyone‘s energy (and that sounds awful thinking about it mid-pandemic 😐) anyway—
Okay omg you‘re absolutely making me want to watch hamilton right now like omg i WANT TO WATCH IT NOW but it‘s 4 am sodndkdldl
what you said about my peter fics🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺like omg i love these emojis they literally just describe how i felt when reading what you said so, yes, 🥰🥺 + thank you :) it really means a lot <3
and no omg i totally get the studying thing. like last year before i graduated .. was that last year? yes wtf omg okaykdjdj, so the last three months before i had my final exams we were just in a lockdown and we didn‘t even have online classes. We had nothing except one teacher who left our group chat (😭) because she was mad at us (?) and one maths teacher who did an online ““lesson““ once a week. he‘d ask: so does anyone have questions. us: . Him: okay, bye then. So. Yeah dndldldj. But we had one online test and it was in german and like i read the book wee were supposed to read? but the questions on the test were all unanswerable (is that a word?) and i had to google everything (got an A tho 🤪 but only because i googled everything so i was so scared that i wouldn‘t be able to get a good result on the final exam because what if i‘d gotten used to just googling everything and i couldn‘t do it by myself anymore? anyway it was all fine in the end but yeah at times i couldn‘t even study because i had so much anxiety about studying and yeah- like this whole annoying cycle. but you said you‘re still studying———- okay wait 👁👄👁 i forgot what i was going to say??????????????????????????????????????????????????? Like wtf. Is wrong with me? And i‘m reading what you wrote again and i just don‘t know what i was going to say? Like i get what you‘re saying obviously but i‘m like? Idk 4am brain ayeee, please vent more if you need to and elaborate further because right now i‘m???? Too dumb to respond to this right now wtf. I‘m so sorry lmao ddlkdjdjd what is even going on like i‘m sitting here open mouthed just like ? But btw the fact that you have Voice and dance lessons is like SO FUCKING COOL like oh my god that is sosososos cool wtf, i was thinking that when you first talked about it too
And “i want you to chanel the knowledge within yourself of the centripetal force of the circle that is the table on this stage” ODHDKSLDBDJDOFIDKDNDLDK
Yes i know about the weather dkdkdkjd but it‘s getting (a lot) warmer here too and where i live we kind of get a weird type of wind called föhn (which literally means hair dryer but idk if that‘d the reason why it‘s called that, i‘m too tired to think of whether it makes sense rn) and it gives me headachesssssss and the changing weather is also giving me headaches 😭😭😭😭 so this season right now is just headache season and i hate summer so i wish it would just snow again lmao (okay it‘s getting so late that it‘s early already snd i can hear this bird chirping so fucking loud wtf i‘m also getting a headache 🤧🤧🤧) but at least i can do my new theme soon (i hope it‘ll look good🥺 and omg thank you for what you said about my current theme- i always feel like i‘m so bad with aesthetics, i obviously like my theme but i feel like every single person on tumblr has a theme that is prettier than mine so it was very nice to hear you say that you love it👉🏼👈🏼 (i‘m so used to it by now that i actually hate it lmao so it‘s getting yeeted soon and i‘m making megan thee stallion my pfp 🤪 (if the graphics and shit works out skdjdjdj)

Ya I think Ben Platt is great in this role even though he doesnt look like hes in high school anymore lol. Plus his dad is the main producer and hes kinda the reason the movie is being made..and he won a Tony for it. Idk why they gave him that hair though. Its true..they made a book after the musical I think but it focuses on one of the other characters..not Evan.. potentially being gay which was an added plot that wasnt in the musical so idk if that will actually be in the movie. I know..the last time I actually saw a movie in theatres was CATS..cuz I love musicals and Taylor, and musicals are basically the only time I go see a movie in theatres and get excited. I am so looking forward to In The Heights! It is similar to La La Land cuz it is about dreamers, love, probably some fun songs and dance numbers. I think it will be easier for a main audience to grasp.even though i think Hamilton is genius too but in a different way. Tick Tick Boom is actually also gonna be directed by Lin Manuel Miranda cuz it's one of his favorite musicals. If you are familiar with the musical Rent, it is similar to that musically..but actually based on the creator of Rents life..named Jonathan Larson. It's a rough musical finished after Jonathan died..and is mostly a stage kind of musical..just him narrating his life..when he was working on Rent. So I'm kinda confused how it will translate to a movie but I'm excited for Andrew to sing cuz I didnt know that he had that kind of voice..mostly rock music. Also Vanessa Hudgens will also be in it and it is going to be on Netflix sometime this year so you can watch it. So we have two big musicals and two kinda smaller musicals..just based on story and in a spectacle way which will be interesting.
yeah i read a quote from the director saying something about how important it was to get ben platt to reprise the role but the hair is definitely the biggest issue 😭 idk why they didn't just keep his regular hair lol
tick tick boom sounds really interesting and i don't think i've heard andrew sing before so that will be cool! i feel like after a year of not going to the cinema and barely having any new releases to look forward to there's going to be so much throughout the rest of this year!!

Crash and Burn
3 months.
That’s how long it’s been since Tony and y/n’s once close relationship had deteriorated to absolutely nothing.
3 months of longing, heartbreak, and regret, yet he only had himself to blame. She had tried, she tried so hard to make things work between them. Every time he changed his mind, every time he hesitated, she was the one who compromised to satisfy him, yet she never complained, not even once. He was too much of a coward to admit it, to admit how much he cared about her to her, and himself.
He kept coming up with reasons why they shouldn’t be together, why they couldn’t be together, why they would be better off apart, because that was what he wanted...right? He wanted this, he kept assuring himself that this was the right thing to do, that this was the only way he could keep them both safe. Everything had been fine for a while, until one late night.
Making his way downtown to a bar he knew y/n frequented with her friends, he should’ve known that he was bound to run into her, but as fate might have it, he was immensely drunk and rational thoughts had been thrown out the window quite a while back.
He should’ve known that she’d be there, laughing and chatting happily with her close group of friends, the frequent clueless guy walking up to their booth and offering to buy her a drink.
Fools. He thought to himself, they were all fools, thinking they could be with her one night and come out the next the same. That night, he unknowingly tested the theory himself.
She had caught him staring, but instead of looking away, she held his gaze, the tension between them agonizing for both parties, so it wasn’t long before one thing led to another and they were stumbling around his room in the dark. The next day when he woke up albeit hungover but more importantly sober, he realized what he had done, what he vowed to himself he wouldn’t. He told her it was a mistake, a night that couldn’t possibly happen again. Seeing as mere seconds later she stormed out of his place with tears brimming her eyes, she didn’t take it too well.
“Are you even listening to me?” Fury’s voice brought him out of his flashback.
“No, no I wasn’t,” Tony admitted, his eyebrows furrowed.
“I said that I need the team in Quebec, take London, Y/l/n and Knightly with you too,” He explained, “you leave in 4 hours , go tell y/l/n , I haven't been able to reach her comms, ” he finished and gestured for Tony to leave the room.
He sighed as he started his search for her. When he finally found her, and with her was Eli London, a fellow SHIELD agent of hers. He said something to her, making her almost burst out in laughter. Oh how Tony had dreamed of being the one to constantly be the one to make her laugh. His thoughts stopped along with his feet when Eli leaned closer to her, their lips dangerously close.
He quickly stalked towards them, anger building up inside him, yet he knew he had no right to be angry or jealous, they weren't together, he had made it clear to her that night, yet he can't help but long to be in Eli's position.
"Ahem," he cleared his throat behind them, they instantly sprung apart.
"Y/l/n, we're due in Quebec, be at the runway in 4 hours," he said and turned on his heel, starting to walk away.
"What's the mission in Quebec for?" she asked and he reluctantly turned around.
"Fury will brief us on the way, so I suggest you stop flirting and get your priorities straight, because I don't need another incident like Boston on my conscience," he spat out, venom laced his words even though he didn't mean it.
She winced at those last words, a look of hurt flashed across her eyes as memories of how she failed to save all those people because she wasn't focused washed over her. He knew that he had struck a chord he didn't mean to, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that last part," he grabbed her hand before she was out of reach and apologised but it was no use, the damage had been done.
"No, you shouldn't have," she stated and pulled free from his grasp before turning on her heel and walking away, leaving him stood there dumbfounded and angry at himself for letting it slip out.
4 and a half hours had passed and yet only one of the agents had arrived. Tony was worried, he had started fidgeting with his watch, his hair, anything to take his mind of her.
"Sorry we're late, we got caught up with training," Y/N said as she and Eli rushed onto the tarmac.
"Good, I was starting to get worried about you," Tony said, locking eyes with the only person in the group her cared about.
"That's no use as you lost the right to care 2 months ago," she said and brushed past him and into the awaiting quinjet.
He walked in last, his eyes scanning the jet for empty seats when his eyes landed on the only open one, of course, he thought as he slipped into the seat next to her.
She took out the book she was planning to read on the flight over when her phone vibrated. It was a message from her brother, Jaden.
Good luck with the mission! I'm buying you dinner when you get back! Love ya!
She smiled to herself as she began to write a reply when she noticed Tony's eyes on her.
"Is that Eli?" He asked quietly.
Normally it would've been a natural question, seeing how close she and Eli had grown these past few months, especially when her relationship with Tony, whether it be professional or romantic, had crumbled.
"I don't want to do this right now, Tony," she warned, "and frankly, it doesn't concern you who texts me and who doesn't, as I'm sure you know you've made abundantly clear time and time again. And no, it wasn't Eli, it was my brother," she didn't bother giving him the chance to explain, simply putting on her ear buds and opening her book.
He let out a frustrated sigh, this wasn't how he wanted this conversation to go, he wanted to apologise to her, about everything, and tell her how deeply and overwhelmingly in love he was with her.
It was an hour into the peace and quiet when Jace, another agent, pointed out the looming weather in the distance. "It looks pretty bad," he said.
Y/n, of course, didn't hear him with the music playing loudly in her ears.
Tony turned towards her, tapping her shoulder lightly.
“What?” She growled, very obviously annoyed. He could hear the voice of Lin Manuel Miranda blasting through her earbuds.
“Definitely Hamilton” he thought to himself. She had always been obsessed with the musical, constantly trying to get him to sing along.
He opened his mouth again to speak up but everything went dark.
“Jace? Jace wake up!” Tony heard Steve say a few feet away from him as he sat up, propping himself up with his elbows.
He coughed loudly into his blackened sleeve, his throat dry and hoarse and his ear ringing.
“Tony, are you okay? Can you walk?” Natasha asked as she stood up, slightly limping.
Tony stood up, his leg working somewhat fine, “Yeah, I’m mostly fine, but my chest hurts like hell,” he explained to her.
“Guys? Guys where’s-“ Eli stopped himself to breathe as he felt an overwhelming sensation of pain run in his leg, where a large gash visibly cut across his left thigh, “fuck,” he breathed deeply, “ where’s y/n?” He questioned.
“I-I don’t know, I was still conscious a few seconds into the crash, I saw her face but then I blacked out again,” Jace confessed anxiously.
“W-wait, I-I hear something, something banging against metal,” Eli panted as he finally caught his breath.
They followed the sound to about 20 feet away from where they were before. Below a large metal piece of the plane lay y/n, a large gash on her right cheek.
“Oh god, y/n!” Tony rushed to her side, kneeling beside her, “W-What hurts?”
“You mean what doesn’t hurt?” She quipped weakly before coughing again, blood staining her cut lip.
He glared at her, letting her know that it wasn’t the time to be making jokes.
“I-I can’t feel my chest, my head is throbbing, I think my right leg is bleeding, honestly everything hurts,” she said and sucked in shallow breath, her body not allowing her to do any more.
Tony was panicking, his supposedly genius mind unable to find a coherent thought for the first time ever, “E-Eli! I need you to help me here!” He yelled at the younger agent, “On 3, we have to lift this up,” he said, his eyes trained on the metal frame that held y/n down.
Eli nodded, his hands finding a place on the frame, “1...2…”
“3!” They pushed together with all their might, desperate to do something to help y/n, but to no avail, even with their combined strength, it wasn’t enough to lift it off of her.
The other gathered around, injured but not nearly as severe as y/n.
Tony tried again, this time without Eli’s help, as he was sitting next to him, applying pressure on his own wound.
“Why are you guys just standing there? I need your help!” Tony pleaded with them, almost out of breath.
“They know...Tony, it’s too late…” her soft voice said, volume barely above a whisper.
“N-no, there was to be something we can do, I can’t let you just…I won’t let you just leave me like this! Not…” he sucked in a deep breath, “ not after I left you,” he conceded.
She reached out, taking his hand with hers, “It’s okay, Tony, I-I…” her breathe became softer, her eyes fluttering close.
“No-no,” his thoughts clouded and his vision became blurry, tears rolling down his face, “you can’t just- Fuck!” He yelled at no one in particular, “pl-
\
Tony woke up in a cold sweat, his heartbeat racing and his mind all over the place.
It was a dream.
He looked over to his bedside clock, 2:36 am
He jumped out of bed, throwing on a nearby t-shirt and ran down the hallway, rapidly knocking on her door. After 15 seconds of silence, he tried knocking again, his head hanging but he still had the slightest bit of hope.
He heard the sound of a door opening and looked up, the door still closed.
“Tony, what are you doing?” Rhodey, who was sleeping over, asked.
“W-where is she? I need to talk to her,” he said, furiously knocking on the door again. His knuckles were starting to hurt but he kept knocking as fast as he could.
“Tony…” Rhodey started, but Tony didn’t look at him, his attention trained on the door in front of him, “Tony, stop…” Rhodey said, grabbing Tony’s hand and pushing it back down.
“W-where’s y/n?” Tony asked desperately.
“Tony please, don’t do this-”
“Tell me, please. I need to talk it out with her, I know I’m wrong but I need to tell her I love her and I need to make everything right, I-”
“Tony…” Rhodey’s voice becomes softer, “the crash was 2 years ago…”
It wasn’t a dream.

Best of the Decade: Lin-Manuel Miranda on making history with Hamilton
Tumblr media
No 18th-century U.S. statesman had more sway on stage, more measure on music, or better brought the decade’s zeitgeist to its zenith than Treasury treasure Alexander Hamilton, the immigrant hero about whom Lin-Manuel Miranda spun a Pulitzer-winning, genre-defying, generation-defining Broadway musical that demanded, among other things, a renewed spotlight be shone on the theater as a cornerstone of American culture.
Since Hamilton’s February 2015 debut at the Public Theater and subsequent transfer to Broadway that summer, Miranda has had five years, three tours, half a dozen productions, hundreds of pre-show concerts, and a star-stacked mixtape to say just about everything he could about creating one of the biggest Broadway musicals of all time. And he’s heard everything you can hear about it, too.
“The thing that always trips people up is the incongruity of a hip-hop musical from this historical tone, which I always find surprising,” says Miranda, 39, whose previous Broadway successes included 2005’s Tony-winning In the Heights, 2012’s Bring It On the Musical, and the 2009 revival of West Side Story. “Because I live in musical-theater land, I know a disproportionate amount about Argentine politics because of Evita,” he continues. “I know about a failed revolution in France because of f—in’ Les Miz. I know what I know about the Constitution from 1776. To me it was not [out of place] to have a musical address historical subjects, and the musical forms I was applying to it were just musical forms I had been working hard to master. When I started reading [Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of Hamilton] I thought, ‘Well, this will be my Jesus Christ Superstar. I’ll do a cool concept album and hopefully someone will figure out how to stage it.’ That’s not how it ended up panning out, but all I was looking to was tradition. I’ve been consistently surprised by how groundbreaking it has been perceived as because I feel like I’m just one in a long tradition of people who have used musical theater on unconventional subjects.”
...
With its 46-track album quick to become ubiquitous in every high school theater department across the country, a show about the might of the people swiftly belonged to the people. “Anecdotally, I heard from countless families who say Hamilton’s the only thing my family can agree on in the car — it’s not the teen’s music, it’s not the grown-up’s music, it’s sort of everyone’s music, and that has been thrilling,” Miranda beams. He’s heard tales of children with learning disabilities surprising their families by memorizing the words of the show, of kids with behavioral issues who found focus, relaxation, or solace in engaging with the libretto. “I think the tonnage of it is actually something that has its own legacy,” Miranda points out. “The fact that it’s literally so much show and so much music, it becomes this challenge for kids to wrap their minds around, the way my friends and I would memorize the Rent soundtrack and assign each other parts in high school a generation before. It’s done that for a new generation of kids, so that’s been really thrilling to see. More often than not, if someone is asking me for a signature or a selfie, it’s on behalf of their children. A lot of, ‘My kid would kill me if I didn’t ask for this photo.’”
And yet, it’s still tough to crack Miranda’s humility (and through the years, EW has tried). Miranda would sooner list 50 line-item debts he owes to Jay-Z and Les Miz and N.W.A. and ALW and Menken and Moreno and Method Man than praise his own impact or boast of the creative genius others have described him as having. Perhaps that’s why Hamilton’s crossover into the mainstream brought him along with it, into a stimulating new leg of a career that taps into his acting (His Dark Materials), songwriting (Moana), dynamic displays of dramaturgy (Fosse/Verdon), and even downright old-school showmanship (Mary Poppins Returns). But Miranda also uses his star power to redirect his spotlight elsewhere: on hurricanes, on history, on anxiety and artistry and the difficult intersection of both.
Only anecdotes (and EW) force Miranda to acknowledge how Hamilton did in fact change the game, especially in its electrified dialogue around the multiplicity of perspectives and representation in entertainment. He offers one such tale he particularly treasures: “I had seen Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time in theaters opening weekend, and they actually quoted my words and the show — I will never forget that as long as I live — and I had the chance to meet her and she told me that when she first met with Disney about the movie, she said, ‘I hope you know I’m doing a Hamilton on this,’” Miranda recalls. “The fact that she used that as shorthand for ‘I’m casting this with actors of color and it’s all hands on deck’ — that was very, very moving to me. The fact that this show is cast the way it is and has been as successful as it has, I think broke down some kind of door. I hope we’ve ended the conversation about nontraditional casting in a very real way. There’s no going backwards now.”
Only going forward, into whatever creative heir to Hamilton lies in our 2020s and his future 40s. “I spent my 20s writing Heights and I spent my 30s writing Hamilton,” says Miranda, whose milestone ages are tied to the turn of the decades themselves (he’ll be 40 on Jan. 16, 2020). “I was actually pretty down at the top of this decade,” he recalls. “I remember the hangover after my 30th birthday party… it was a great party, but I just remember feeling like this was adulthood for real, and [not knowing] what’s going to happen. But it has also been the most fulfilling and joyous decade I’ve had so far. It’s been unreal.” And he’ll enter his 40s in similarly surrealistic fashion: In addition to a movie of Heights arriving in June, he’ll make his directorial debut helming a Netflix film adaptation of Tick, Tick… BOOM!, the 1990 musical by the late Jonathan Larson about a composer’s midlife anxiety over his artistic accomplishments. Miranda doesn’t need to point out the parallels. “We’re shooting ‘30/90’ the day I turn 40, so you wanna talk about decades? Jonathan Larson is almost exactly 20 years older than me, and to begin the decade telling his story, telling the story of the person who allowed me to believe I had a life in the theater? That feels like a really nice way to start.”
